New Year New Start for NBG :<<o>>: Nest

Posted Image :clk: for video

WVEC’s Eagle Cam should be up and running later this month. Two cameras focus on the nest while the third camera provides images of the beautiful surrounding area, including various perches used by the eagles when they are not on the nest and one camera will provide infrared night vision.

Several upgrades are planned for the Eagle Cam page on WVEC.com, which will begin streaming 24/7 later this month. Also, sound will be added to the live web stream.

LATEST UPDATE ON THE WCV RTH :X:

January 4 update
Red-tailed Hawk #11-2361 was brought into the hospital on January 2 for a physical exam and a set of radiographs. Dr. Miranda found that while the hawk’s left shoulder felt fine, the hawk’s left elbow was quite swollen. The range of motion on the hawk’s left wing was also decreased, compared to the right wing.

Radiographs revealed that the white, boney changes around the hawk’s elbow and wrist joints were not quite as pronounced as they were two weeks ago, but Dr. Miranda is concerned about the swollen elbow. At this point, the veterinary team just isn’t sure of the cause of this wing droop. Dr. Miranda suspects a mechanical problem with the wing, rather than a pain issue. Boney damage or a joint infection are both on the list of possible causes. Whatever it is – the veterinary team needs more time to see what develops. Another set of radiographs will be taken in two weeks.

The Red-tailed Hawk also has a decreased white blood cell count, so a course of antibiotics has been started. These will be delivered each day in the hawk’s food.

While Critter Cam watchers will see that the hawk is still flying well in the flight pen, the main concern at this point is that this injury is not stable. If, for example, the hawk’s elbow becomes painful, or if this is the beginning of arthritic changes, the staff would not want to release the hawk. The veterinary team hope to learn more in two weeks with another set of radiographs.

Cheryl - How is Mia doing today? <3 You will have your hands full trying to keep her quiet for a few days as Wynn will want to play with her. Has Wynn been neutered yet? So many breeders today are thinking the same way about waiting until they are older but I am more comfortable taking care of it when they are young. I waited too long with Maya and she went into heat at 6 months old, then had to wait until she was about 7-1/2 months old.

Karen - Very cute beach pictures and the video of the noisy sea lion is great, love their call.

Penny - Beautiful raptor stamps, will try to get some when I am in Florida. Can't wait for Norfolk cam to be up. I'm so happy Pa found a new beautiful mate

Ozzie - Hope Tigsy is feeling better, poor baby :(
