Cruzers It's another 'gorgeous' day here temp wise...+4C/39F for the high My little red squirrel buddy had a bigger grey squirrel visitor this morning snooping around under 'his' tree and looking for those buried nuts he's been stashing....lots of squirrel histrionics were happening so I have delayed the morning goodie buffet until the grey one leaves ![]() |

![]() This is a "Moon Dog" of the recent Wolf Moon photographed in Alaska, an ice halo lit by the Moon. I've posted pics of amazing Sun Dogs before, but have never seen a Moon Dog, unless you count Gidget's BF "Moondogggie", in the 60s film. ![]() Carole, your mom's 100th Birthday party will be an event of a lifetime. Wish I could be a "Fly on the wall" to experience it. The only 100th Year Birthday Party I ever attended was for Grim Natwick, the legendary creator of Betty Boop. I worked for one of his good friends (in the late 80s and early 90s) at a small commercial production company in Santa Monica called Duck Soup Produckions and it was held outdoors at the Will Rogers Park in Pacific Palisades. Somewhere I have pics of the event, that included many great 2D animation veterans. Duck Soup did great quality commercials for products like Kellogg's Frosted Flakes, Froot Loops, and many other cereals, including many for 7-Up (the animated "Dots"), etc... Fun times, long time ago. |

What a fantastic Moon Dog halo Kris ![]() I love seeing Po and Lun Lun Carole especially since I don't go 'visit' them on cam much anymore. Soon Jewel will have her cub(s) and that will take up so much time as well as watching all the latest on the IWS nest cams. Thank You Bette for PH

Quote: posted yesterday by Jill I can't remember if this has been posted before or not- The tide goes out even under the ice - this is an amazing video!!! Very interesting what natives have done for ages, you won't regret watching. http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=Z0qGvC3vqaA Jill, I wish I had known about the 'under the ice' video that you posted yesterday when I used to teach a reading unit on Canadian author and illustrator Ian Wallace. The children were fascinated by the story of this little Inuit girl's adventures under the ice. Ian Wallace's illustrations are amazing, with all sorts of creatures hidden in the pictures for them to find. The author, Jan Andrews, told the story so well that even though it was a strange concept for city children to grasp, going under the ice, they understood how frightened she must have been. Thank you for sharing the video. I was scared just watching them!! ![]() "Eva lives in an Inuit village in northern Canada. In the winter, people search along the bottom of the seabed beneath a thick shelf of ice for mussels to eat. Eva usually helps her mother, but for the first time, she’s going to go by herself. She soon gathers a pan full of mussels. But then, her candle goes out, and the tide threatens to return! When she is finally safe with her mother, Eva proclaims, “That was my very last first time walking alone on the bottom of the sea.” An ALA Notable Children’s Book, Very Last First Time comes from one of Canada's most distinguished storytellers and an award-winning illustrator." http://www.amazon.com/Very-Last-First-Time-Andrews/dp/088899043X |

- beautiful 'Moon Dog' photo, Kris .... I enjoyed your account of the birthday party, too. - sounds like your little red squirrel was doing a fairly good job of defending his/her territory, Penny. Carole, this is going to be such a special celebration for your mother and all of your family. It is so nice that she is alert and will be able to enjoy each and every moment with her loved ones. ![]() |

Kris - "Moon Dog" is gorgeous You have met so many celebrities in your life and so many interesting other people as well. You should write a book about all your experiences, it would be a best seller. Cheryl - The video is amazing even a bit scary. I never heard about that children's book but it sounds wonderful, maybe a gift for the youngest grandchild who loves to read. |

Carole, are you reading my diaries? I am actually working on a "docu-drama" bio of my life. Don't know where it's going to go but from childhood family friends like the aging actor Tom Brown to Irish actor Sean McClory who was Dad's drinking buddy when I was a child, to my flamboyant adolescent drama coach Kenny Kingston who became the "Celebrity Psychic" on the Johnny Carson Show and in the back pages of tabloid papers, to Lori's Dad who was a "Teen Idol" in the 70s, to memories of the celebrities my grandmother entertained at her cocktail parties, to my friendship with paraplegic antiwar activist, Ron Kovic, who wrote Born on the Fourth of July, to another SO who's uncle was a mega movie star and whose best friend was another one, and multiple other side stories, including my own. Weaving it all into a story and trying to make sense of this gut wrenching change in my life moving to the UK that required so much sacrifice and disconnection from everything familiar and precious. Writing about it is hopefully at least going to help me stay focused on a future goal, while trying to stay sane, and help see Ed and I realize our research work goals. I thought of maybe calling it "Life on the Fringes of Semi Celebrity".
