<::: Banding of the Starr Ranch Barn Owls will probably get started around 1:30PM PST.

Posted Image Posted Image

During the banding, commenting will be shut down. The webcast of the banding will be an opportunity to watch only. Too many comments or page reloads during the banding have the potential to overload servers and cut some off from watching.

Also, please understand that handling these birds and banding them is, of course, some stress for them. But very short lived. 15-20 min after being returned to the cavity it’s back to business as usual. If there’s any lasting “trauma” from banding, they don’t show it. Example: Female was trapped and banded many years ago. Obviously it hasn’t affected her life in any meaningful way. You are front and center witnessing proof of that. And don’t forget so many of you asking about the fate of the male. That he was banded and we found him is the only way we have a chance of learning about what happened to him and where.

This is just why I'm afraid to follow nest developments. We're too on the edge here, without support or resources to help digest such additional tragedies. :'( I know it happens but am on overload here. :'( Having to be careful what websites I watch out of self protection, especially at these nesting and fledging time. :( The NTSC tragedy of last year ripped my guts out! "O shut the door, and when thou hast done so, Come weep with me, past hope, past cure, past help!"- from Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. <:3 At least the Starr Ranch Owlets seem to be surviving. :X:
