So sad about the Blackwater chicks. Makes cam watching such a dangerous pursuit. Speaking of dangerous pursuits, it seems the Sandhills should be more discrete and be quieter about their location. I'm amazed they can successfully nest like that in the water. Nature is so full of such incredibly paradoxical situations. ![]() Penny, the film "A Separation" sounds like a real gut wrencher. I'll watch for it on our monthly rental list. Netfiix here is only an online streaming service; which would exceed our broadband allowance to use for films. We have Blockbuster and LoveFilm for postal DVD deliveries. Yesterday we went for a walk on the south facing hills of the valley we live in and had a rare sighting of Ravens! In Santa Monica Ravens are a fairly common sighting but in Ed's life he's never seen one here in the UK in the wild! And he's an expert Bird Watcher, able to recognize almost every Bird we've ever encountered here. A Bird Watching site I found online said you "only see Ravens at the Tower of London" these days. Well we found there is at the least a nesting pair at "Raven's Wood", as Ed named it yesterday, in a Conifer wood on the crest of the valley's hills. Not a soul around but us and they were none too happy we were there. |

Kris - The ravens moved into your area because they heard all about you and Ed's love for them. Here is a happy nest picture from Sequoyah showing Pipsqueak getting a good meal. The lens has been fogged up this past week, either a poop shot or condensation that won't go away.

LATEST UPDATES FROM WCV......... February 27 update NX NX was caught up for a foot and feather check today, as well as a weight-check. Dr. Miranda reports that NX is molting — which is why some eagle-eyed Critter Cam watchers have noticed some of her additional missingfeathers. On her left wing, NX has two primary feathers “in blood” — and many of her tertiary feathers (wing feathers closest to her body) are also currently growing in. NX’s right wing has two primary feathers growing in. Her feet were cleaned and a little bit of “New Skin” was applied to small cracks on her third digits of each foot — just to provide a little extra protection. It is not uncommon to find small cracks on raptor feet at this time of year. At this point, the veterinary team is not concerned — just very proactive in protecting any small foot lesions. NX weighed in today at 4.20 kg. The next foot and feather check will be on March 12, which is also when NX is scheduled for additional radiographs. February 27 update RED TAIL HAWK Red-tailed Hawk #12-0003 began daily exercises with the Center’s rehabilitation staff last week, and by the end of the week it was making as many as 16 trips between its perches without showing any visible sign of tiring. This continued improvement led the Center’s veterinary staff to recommend that the hawk begin live-prey testing later this week. If the hawk is able to pass “mouse school”, then it should soon be a candidate for release. February 27 update PEREGRINE FALCON The peregrine continues to heal in the Center’s holding room — the big news of the week is that the falcon has started eating on his own! For the past few days, Peregrine Falcon #12-0023 has been eating about 70 grams of quail each day. The bird’s pin sites continue to look free of inflammation and infection. The team will see if the “destabilization” process [removing some of the bird's pins and fixator] can begin next week after additional radiographs are taken on March 5. February 27 update RS HAWK Laser therapy continues every three days for the Red-shouldered Hawk. Since beginning laser therapy in early February, this means that the hawk has had seven treatments to date. The hawk continues to droop its left wing intermittently– only time and radiographs will tell how the bird is adjusting to its healed wing injury. Edited by Naturegal, Feb 27 2012, 12:17 PM.

![]() There are so many pics of her doing that and I have to agree...that is not a nice looking leg at all. Maybe if she was wearing some panty hose ? Her face also looks like it's made of wax ala Madame Tussauds wax museum ![]() ![]() If you notice Brad and his Mom look very natural in comparison to the frozen Botox look ![]() Does anyone know if her arm tatoos are birthdates of their children? |

Besides Stacey's gorgeous golden gown I also the dresses worn by Cameron Diaz, Jessica Castain and Giuliana Rancic. Glenn Close looked fabulous in the green except for the fishtail But what happened to Sandra Bullokck? She looked very dowdy somehow even with that backless dress. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

G'day peeps, my Tuesday, starting sunny, humid and waiting for rain that keeps being predicted but doesnt happen. or ??Rachel informed me she is moving back to College on Friday I can then do a couple of chores in the apt to put it up for sale, already have the Sale Contract. Okay, yes, I will miss her.... she is starting another job this week, 3 afternoons a week as a Nanny. Pocket money! The SANDHILLS! Love, like they are your neighbors and you are complaining about the noise they make. Very sad about the Blackwater Racoon! Will it eat the eggs?Like Penny, I've only seen one of the movies, War Horse, and whilst I like it, it never thought it was award material. I am interested now in seeing other movies, but will have to wait until Bob is off his crutches. I didnt see the 'walk' of gowns, only what was on stage. I liked Sandra's gown, I thought it was very elegant. I too thought Angie is way too skinny, and it probably makes her cranky too, lack of food. I did like her velvet dress though! Least liked dress, Emma Stone. Hope you feel better Karen, nothing worse than being short-handed and sick at work. FEED ME yeah, I know that look! |

I forgot to mention the MEN. I've never been enthralled with either Brad or George... Mario Lopez is gorgeous and I was surprised how well Tom C looked. Facelift? I have always like Liam Neeson (but he wasnt there!) in Love Actually. Favorite of course is COLIN FIRTH whom I've been in love with ever since Pride & Prejudice ![]() edit, what our paper is saying about Angie! Angelina Jolie's odd pose at the Oscars has turned her leg into an internet sensation http://media.smh.com.au/entertainment/entertainment-news/jolie-shows-some-leg-3079007.html Edited by KLJinOz, Feb 27 2012, 04:16 PM.

Lily the Black Bear – UPDATE February 27, 2012 Winter is Going Too Fast! Jewel's big foot and cub's tiny feet - Feb 27, 2012 With so much to do in the office, the winter is going too fast and the field season will soon be upon us. We’re counting on the Den-Watch Team to catch the den action as we scramble to catch up on many details. ![]() Today we saw Faith licking snow off Lily. Later, while reviewing the archives, we could see the full sequence of events—and we got a chuckle! Faith was awake with her head on Lily’s back. Snow outside the den must have shifted, because snow fell first into the big opening of the den and then—PLOP—right on Faith’s head from a smaller opening above their bed! Her response was to calmly lick the snow she could see—the snow on Lily’s back. See if you can follow the sequence in the image. If you’re viewing it from the website it will enlarge for you. A video of highlights from yesterday of Jewel and cubs is online here. This morning about 7 AM, Lucky was sleeping peacefully near the den entrance, breathing 3.0 times per minute (9 breaths in 3 minutes), and Honey was breathing 3.3 times per minute (10 breaths in 3 minutes). Strange noises from Honey did not interrupt Lucky’s breathing pattern. How long before they argue? What will happen when one does something unusual, like standing up and wanting to go outside for a bite of snow or to relieve himself or herself. We could tell there was tension a couple weeks ago when Honey defecated in her bed rather than doing what other bears do and as we all have seen Jewel do—backing out the entrance a little way. Thank you for all you do. —Lynn Rogers and Sue Mansfield, Biologists, Wildlife Research Institute and North American Bear Center |
