Yesterday it was 87 degrees here. We love our California winters but know we'll have to pay the price later in September, October with wildfires if we don't get some rain. This article was on the front page of the Ventura Star this morning. Warm weather brings out rattlesnakes ![]() Contributed Photo Capt. Dale Cundiff, now retired, practices safely handling a live rattlesnake during a 2010 training session with the Ventura County Fire Department. The training takes place under controlled conditions in the Ojai Valley. Read more: http://www.vcstar.com/news/2012/mar/04/warm-weather-brings-out-rattlesnakes/#ixzz1oFqdDi3q - vcstar.com

Good morning! Snake All I see here are garter snakes, and they make me jump. That's a big guy, Topa.Whooper Update: Date: March 5, 2012Reporter:Liz Condie Subject:PARTING GIFTLocation:Main Office Just before Bev Paulan left the Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge yesterday to return home and her job as a pilot for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, she sent along a 'parting gift'. Taken as dusk was falling, the two photos below captured four of the young cranes in the Class of 2011 as they strolled and foraged before departing for their evening roost site. Despite the low light, it's easy to see they have very little of the cinnamon coloring of youth left.

Deb, I did watch your caching slideshow yesterday. Your weather looks mild for this time of year. Why do you think you found so many buried treasures? It looks like of nice place to go caching. Tomorrow DH and I are going on a road trip up north to Carmel and Monterey for two nights. YAY! We are driving through Big Sur where I've read one section is a one lane road from a rock slide a year a go. We dropped Zoey the beagle off to her Santa Monica mommy after her spa treatments. The doggy spa put a cute pink western bandana aroundher neck that I left on for my nieces little boy to see. I have so much to do to get ready today. First is to check the eagle cams. |

Hi CDN, Rattlers pose the most danger on the trail of any wildlife. Zoey and I have already checked out another hiking trail that starts on a road then turns to a fire fuel break. It's a wide trail so we have plenty of visability. I'm getting Zoey a rattle snake vaccine shot and training when she gets back on the 13th. She's a nose to the ground dog, so I have to take extra precautions with her. Unfortunately for her she has to stay on a leash too while we hike. She is turning into quite the little beach dog tho. Skipping along the water. |

oh me too cheryl - snakes .... make me a little edgy..... glad we don't have too many here (or I don't see 'em) LOL wow - making me a bit jealous with that weather report - we have sun this AM but quite chilly.... supposed to be nice for the upcoming weekend - around 50ish - we're camping with the boys Sat/Sun woo hoo Cheryl how beautiful those photos thanks for sharing Topa - the area we cached at yesterday is actually acres preserved by the DEC - it used to be a psych hospital area (around 2,000 acres in all) --- you also have to have a permit (free) to go on the property and a lot of folks won't bother so it's used but not at all like other local parks .... the caches were a lot of fun - especially the basket in the tree LOL..... got home and noted that I had done over 13,000 steps woo hoo... yes we've had a very, very mild winter... and not much rain/snow -hmmm what will that mean for us - we do get brush fires here on the island and particularly on the south shore and out in the pine barrens where we were yesterday - that's a huge problem! Have a great time away Topa - sounds like fun! ah zoey a rattle snake shot - really ? never heard of it.... I don't believe we have rattlers here on the island but we sure do on the mainland and after all of our years out and about, ES finally ran into them the past couple years on some of his hikes! have to be careful and mindful! ok back to work BBL

Good Morning Monday Cruzers for movieIn case anyone missed the debut of this 3 minute Cartier film last night. This is in HD and absolutely spectacular ![]() 'L'Odyssée de Cartier' is a visual spectacular of cutting edge special effects, which explores the fine jeweller's archives and back-story in a bid to showcase the brand to both existing customers, emerging markets and a new generation. "This project has been treated like a real movie," Cartier UK's executive chairman Arnaud M.Bamberger explained at a preview screening at Cartier's London HQ last week, "we wanted the best special effects, a big director, an incredible model and props to intertwine with our incredible history. "We wanted a movie we would be proud to show to Steven Spielberg". Well as promotional videos go, you have to hand it to Cartier, L'Odyssée de Cartier really is a no-expense-spared mini-masterpiece. The three and a half minute film follows the iconic symbol of the brand - the panther - on a whirlwind trip around the globe where he brushes with key moments and locations from Cartier's rich history. The panther itself is steeped in history. 'La Panthère' being the nickname of Catier's legendary designer Jeanne Toussaint who created their first ever piece of panther jewellery - a bracelet for the Duchess of Windsor. The panther travels to St Petersburg in the snow, to China where he comes face-to-face with a golden dragon, to an Indian palace built upon an elephant's back and filled with glittering animal jewellery (many pieces of which reside in the Cartier archive), before leaping aboard the wings of and identical replica of the airplane built by Alberto Santos-Dumont, to showcase the classic Cartier Santos watch (first commissioned by the Brazilian aviation legend in 1904). The panther finally lands in Paris, the birthplace of Cartier, on Place Vendôme where he meets supermodel Shalom Harlow at the Grand Palais. L'Odyssée is the the work of a vast team led by leading advertising film director Bruno Aveillan. He was supported by a crew of 60 on location, with a further team of 50 special effects technicians working on the post-production for six months. An original score was composed by Pierre Adenot, and the red dress worn by Shalom was custom-made by young Chinese fashion designer Yiqing Yinwith, while a total of three panthers were used for filming due to strict animal welfare laws. |

Rattlers Can you get a shot too Topa?I know they could be very near trail edges if not even basking in the middle of one too. OMG that is very scary Be Careful out there!!!!The movie is a huge file so it may not even play on an iPad. It is a visual masterpiece and the Russian parts reminded me so much of the movie Dr. Zhivago

Topa - Rattlers be careful. Wishing you and Barry a fabulous trip to Carmel and Monterrey, those places are on my wish list for travel.Cheryl - Delightful photos of the whoopers, they really have matured. Deb - It looks like you were very fortunate finding so many caches. I can't imagine how people find these hiding places. Penny - Watched part of the Cartier video, just stunning. Will watch more when I have the time.
