Penny, I just said what you said about "no eggs yet", and then asked "what was the problem with the (female) "Bald Eagle" that has now left". :P My Spanish isn't as good as it once was, but there was a time when i would even think in it. My step-father was a Spanish/Costa Rican diplomat and it was frequently the language of family conversation, aeons ago. :P

These are the translations I came up with on what you posted Kris :P :D
And also: ' already these not eggs.' Also, the thing with the imperial aquila these now was

And also: "Since these not eggs.' In addition, that the thing with the aquila imperial that these are now was

And also: ' Already this not eggs.' Also, that the thing with imperial aquila that you are now one was

I've never attempted to translate something on the net before. I guess it doesn't mean they translated it accurately! :D

Jill, is this a test? :P

I should have added that the translation program did a poor job with two basic phrases, the second of which was a question that it didn't perceive. How could it miss "What was the deal with the Eagle that has now left?" ?

Whooper Update: This news was posted by OM just an hour ago. Some of the whoopers are back in Wisconsin.

" The tracking vehicle just came in: 11-02, 4-08, 26-07, 17-03, and 7-09 are here!" (from OM's Facebook page)

G'day peeps, my very heavy rain Thursday morning, working from home. Woken by thunder. In fact the Sydney weather report is so bad that the Emergency services are recommending people stay home today, roads are flooded. The township of Wagga Wagga (my neighbors here have their primary house in this town), has been pretty much evacuated and here is an amazing picture of the SPIDERS migrating to get away from the floods!
http://news.ninemsn.com.au/glanceview/219098/wagga-spiders-spin-fields-of-webs.glance

The upside of all the spiders is that they EAT the mozzies which are in abundance with all the rain. "Wagga Wagga" means many crows. It comes from the aboriginal Wiradjuri tribe.

I just loved this Travel news article! St Lawrence River

The female was observed by people on the ground chasing after and locking talons with the intruder. I will post the video as soon as it is up :ok:

Good thing there are no eggs in that nest yet :o The female is back and having a snooze in it after all her exertions today :)^

Intense Fight between Intruder with black spot on head and Pa (3:38)

Here's another video with sound of The Fight (3:56)

Those spider webs are amazing, Kath. Robert and I have driven past the Thousand Islands on the Canadian side on our way to the east coast. It is a very scenic drive. I had forgotten about the salad dressing connection. :)

Kris, sorry to read about Lori having a serious health issue. I will be thinking of her and you as well.

Oldest DS, Matthew, is here overnight. There is a huge traffic jam on the main hwy. back to his home in Toronto (he works here). There was a serious accident. We saw the rescue helicopter fly over us. The police were routing folks off the highway and many cars have been wandering all over the area looking for another way home. One person stopped to ask for directions which were very complicated, sending her through Guelph to get back to Toronto, but I drew her a map and wrote down the instructions. I hope she is home by now. Matthew will be sleeping in his old bedroom after watching the hockey game with his Dad.

This was a really vicious fight and as you can see, Pa was fierce. After getting it down he was biting it and even stomped on the other eagles head :o Pa is on top of it in all these :clk: 's

At one point he even pretended to be submissive....turned his back on the intruder and then went after it again big time with the final flurry of knock out punches :8O:

The female came back to the tree and one minute later two intruders were back so they both chased them off. Pa came home first and waited for DT to come back.

Stay away from our nest!!!

What an eventful day at the NBG nest. Lets hope that one won't be repeated :X:

Here's what Dr. Watts' response was on the Richmond chat when they were discussing the Blackwater nest intruder.

" As the bald eagle population within the Chesapeake Bay runs out of breeding space it is undergoing a dramatic transition. Once a peaceful neighborhood, the Bay is now overrun with birds that are of breeding age with no territory of their own. With few other options, these birds are now vying for territories that are occupied. The turmoil has two outcomes including increased adult mortality as floaters fight territory holders for space and reduced nesting success as territory holders are forced to spend more time defending eggs and young. Floaters kill young chicks for two reasons. The first is that causing a nest failure creates a better opportunity for them to take over a territory. The second is that if they are successful at replacing an adult, they have no incentive to raise unrelated chicks. The latter case is similar to what we see when a male lion or baboon takes over a group and kills all the young."
