Good afternoon :) So eggsciting with all these new chicklets to love and watch grow! Love all the captures from the different nests in Eagleland and, Carole, you are so wonderful to put all your time into doing that and I for one appreciate it so much, even if I don't say so very often. I look at the pics everyday and sometimes twice but I don't mind at all that you will be doing it every other day now instead of everyday. I will take and enjoy what you have to offer when you have to offer it :) :Hugs:

Deb as always, busy busy busy! Hope you are getting to enjoy some rest time with all you have to do!

Savta Topa Cathy...the pics of Rachel and you all are so cute! She looks adorable pregnant! Bet you all are so anxious to welcome Baby T into your lives!

Such drama on the NBG nest! Glad that DT is back! At least we know she is ok and nothing happened to her.

Saw this online just now and thought I would share. San Marcos is only about 10/12 miles inland east of where I live. A wonderful Eagle project that this young man did for his Eagle Scout badge. I know where this park is and if I get the chance, I will try to go take some pics of the benches to share. I am surprised they didn't put any with this article.

Pa was also reported to be seen there too...soooo maybe all this time they were hanging out together at the lake to avoid confrontations with #4. The plot thickens!!!

How would you like to have them visit your backyard? :D

<::: Earth Hour is today (Saturday, March 31), starting at 8:30 p.m.
How many people are planning to switch off?

Posted Image

Not to be confused with Earth Day — Earth Hour asks us to turn off our lights for an hour. From candlelit dinners to concerts in the dark, there are plenty of ways to mark the event across the planet.

You might be thinking, “Can an hour really make a difference?” The answer is, “Yes, it definitely can.” Doing so sends a message loud and clear to our government on the issues it needs to address. And the issue here is sustainability.

Earth Hour started off as a national World Wildlife Fund initiative in Australia, in 2007. The next year, another 400 cities in 35 countries, including Toronto, took part, turning Earth Hour into a global movement by 2008.

Last year, more than 5,000 cities and towns in 135 countries turned off their lights. The result? Earth Hour 2011 became the biggest climate campaign ever. As more than 70% of the world’s CO2 emissions come from cities, turning off the lights — even for just an hour — is a huge statement. It shows we are taking personal accountability for the impact we have on our planet, and that we’re willing to make the changes needed to achieve a sustainable lifestyle.

The global event is scheduled on the last Saturday of every March – closely coinciding with the equinox to ensure most cities are in darkness as it rolls out around the Earth.

I've got 22 mins to heat up dinner before it's lights out here :D

so we went out to run a couple of errands and then did a little caching (we're so close to 900) and on way home, decided to stop and say hi to a good friend that I worked with many years before she retired.... we stay in touch but don't get together often enough ...... ended up we took her out to a little dinner and had a great visit.... she's such a special person and I enjoyed all the years we worked together :) lots of catching up on both sides .... finally got ourselves home and now doing a little laundry and putting feet up.....

Lily the Black Bear – UPDATE March 31, 2012

June and Jo

Tracks of 3 otters.............June with new collar - March 31, 2012

June was first on our agenda today. As we hiked in to her we found otter tracks in the snow—3 sets of tracks! The snow from yesterday has mostly melted with a temperature around 40F, so we are back into spring again. Those of us who love reading the stories left by tracks in the snow were happy for one more chance to indulge our passion.
We hadn’t seen June since we found her in a den last fall. We were surprised to find her and her yearlings Aster and Aspen in their den today. They probably retreated to the den when they heard us coming, but June readily came out when she realized it was us.

June's moss bed - March 31, 2012

The yearlings hung around by the den and June approached us. We easily changed her radio-collar to a new numbered one and collected a hair sample—both requirements of our new permit. We also gave her a GPS so we can start watching her movements as they post every 10 minutes on our computer.

The yearlings ran off when a sudden noise spooked them. Eventually, June went after them and led them back to the den area. Her den was dry with no sign of flooding in the immediate area.

Aster - March 31, 2012

It was obvious from the plethora of bear sign in the area that the bears have been out of their den for some time—willows and alders were broken down, branches on a leaning cedar tree had been stripped off, a huge bed of club moss was 30 feet from the den, and there were fecal plugs and numerous fresh scats. That’s probably why June’s radio-signal showed so much activity lately. Now we know some of what they were doing. We collected scats and fecal plugs and took pictures and videos. When we left, the family was resting together in the well-used bed of club moss.

Jo with new collar - March 31, 2012

Then it was on to Jo and her yearling Victoria for more of the same. They had left their den on March 18—as evidenced by the images on the trail camera they dragged into their culvert den. We easily found them near where we radio-located them on March 25, showing that they are still confining their activities to a small area, like June and Lily are doing with their yearlings. Jo was good enough to let us put the new radio-collar on her and collect the hair sample. We spent a bit of time with them and found they had been tearing apart logs for grubs. We were running out of light so when they wandered into a dark balsam thicket we bid them “Thank you, bears” and headed back to the truck.

Victoria - March 31, 2012

March 31 marks the day Lily and Hope moved outside their den in 2010. Hope, Herbie, and Fern all have the same birthday—January 22—but Fern and Herbie are a day older than Hope was on March 31 because of Leap Year and the extra day in February. Will we be seeing Jewel, Fern, and Herbie moving out soon? The cubs are getting stronger and even MORE fun to watch. Jewel has her paws full.

Today we were reminded about all that the various groups, teams, and projects are doing as a result of Lily and clan bringing us together. With all that in mind and seeing volunteer applications coming in, we say, “Thank you for all you do.”
