Whooper Update: #2-11 aka Amelia Earhart has been sighted in Wisconsin. What a girl! Date: March 28, 2012 Reporter: Liz Condie Subject: EASTERN MIGRATORY POPULATION NEWS Location: Main Office This news just in from Bev Paulan, Wisconsin DNR pilot who completed a Whooping crane survey flight on Monday. Bev told us, "During my crane survey flight yesterday, I found this lonely bird hanging out with a bunch of Sandhills. No working transmitter, no leg bands and some brown feathers. The general consensus is that I found the little runaway, 2-11. She was in a marsh in Adams County where last year we had a pair nest." Also found on the aerial survey was 38-08 who was sitting on a nest. She said that 9-05 & 13-03 were almost finished building their nest and that 27-07 & 12-05 looked to be just starting nest construction. Altogether Bev located 31 pairs, of which at least three consist of a crane from the 2010 hatch year and a few more from the 2009 generation. Bev said, "I am not holding out a lot of hope for those young birds to nest successfully, but even so, practice makes perfect." She witnessed a short vignette as she surveyed the Mead Wildlife Area. The mate of female 5-10 was chasing off Sandhills, an exercise that produced "quite an aerial dogfight" before the Sandhill disengaged and flew off into the woods. Thanks for the news and the photo Bev! #2-11 with sandhills

Whether you are an engineer or not, you have to be amazed at these designs and the concepts behind this technology. You gotta see this furniture for limited space. Impressive technology- http://sorisomail.com/email/59829/vou-contactar-um-designer-destes-e-fora-de-serie.html |

Sorry that I haven't been around much. My MIL is not doing well and will be placed in palliative care over the next few days. Robert has gone to visit again this morning. I have been trying to stay caught up on the forum, just not commenting much. Our older son, Matthew, has been laid off from his job. I do have some happy family news to share as well. While Ian and Allison were away on their recent cruise Ian proposed to her. The wedding will be sometime in the middle of 2013. Allison has been a part of our family for six years already. Robert and I both think she is wonderful. ![]() |

Cheryl - So sad about your MIL, something we all have to deal with when they reach that age. Hope they can just keep her comfortable. Sorry to hear Matthew was laid off, perhaps another and better job will come his way Congrats to Allison and Ian, what great news

Cheryl, welcome back! Great news that "Amelia" has been sighted. Sorry to hear about your MIL's condition. And that Matthew was laid off. Congrats to Ian and Allison, on their happy news. Some fantastic news from Scotland this morning! I've been keeping an eye on the webcam at Loch of Lowes hoping for news of Lady, the Scottish Wildlife Trust's famous 26 or 27 year old Osprey, the one I posted events about last year. Amazingly, today for the 22nd year on a row she's returned to the loch from her yearly migration to Africa! Last year her eggs didn't hatch but were later determined to have been fertile though development had stopped early on, probably due to a spell of cold weather. Just hours after she arrived this morning a young male came to the nest, not her usual partner, and they've been bonding up a storm all day! He's a bit inexperienced seeming, though. At one point he landed on her head and stood there looking like he didn't know what to do. In another attempt he sort of Moonwalked backward up her raised tail. He seemed to manage several successes too, and she seems to have accepted him. If her mate, 7Y, aka "Laird", does show up there may be some drama. He usually arrives a day or two after she does.![]() ![]() ![]() Edited by circlescribe, Mar 30 2012, 07:17 AM.

Welcome home to the Lady of the Loch! Thanks for the great news and photos, Kris. I hope she can hatch some chicks this year with either her Laird or the newbie, Sir Lancelot. Thank you for the congratulations for Ian and Allison. I'll be sure to pass them along. |
