2012 Nest Adoption Challenge - April 1 - June 1, 2012

The Cruzers adopted SEVEN nests (over $7,000 donated) in 2006, adopted EIGHTEEN nests (over $18,000 donated) in 2007, adopted THIRTY-NINE nests ($39,333.00 raised) in 2008, adopted TWENTY nests ($20,157.00) in 2009, continuing their effort - they again adopted TWENTY nests ($20,000) and in 2011 the Cruzers adopted TWENTY-THREE nests ($23,000), in support of the Institute for Wildlife Studies (IWS) and their Bald Eagle Restoration Project! Some of the monies have made it possible for us to watch several bald eagle nests, with an upgraded internet feed, adding sound and now 24 hour live feed on the cameras AND NOW - zoom!

In their collective efforts, the Cruzers and eagle friends, have adopted 127 nests and donated over $127,000.00 !!

Cruzers and Forum Visitors can participate in "Adopt-A-Nest" beginning April 1, 2012 ! You can give once - twice - or as often as your heart desires during the NAC effort!

The Cruzers have dedicated themselves to supporting the monumental efforts of IWS and are hosting the 2012 Nest Adoption Challenge - each $1,000 raised adopts a Channel Island Nest! Is there a way you can help make a difference? Yes - every single donation adds up and together, we can adopt one nest at a time!

And what is a Cruzer - it is anyone who watches the bald eagle nests and loves the Channel Island Bald Eagles!

There are several ways that you can make a regular dollar contribution:

1. Visit IWS.org by clicking on this link Make a Contribution

NOTE: If you pay thru Pay Pal, you must select a quantity to represent your total amount (it allows for $5.00 increments)

2. You can mail checks to: Institute for Wildlife Studies - PO BOX 2500 - Avalon CA 90704

3. Credit card information can be emailed to Peter Sharpe, Ph.D. at IWS: sharpe@iws.org or called directly to Dr. Sharpe at: 310-510-2728

You can designate a special occasion for your donation if you'd like: celebrating a birthday, honoring an anniversary, in memory of a loved one and so much more!

<::: Besides monetary donations, credit will also be given for the following - but you must request 2012 Nest Adoption credit at time of purchase :

4. If you are "purchasing" a new OR renewing your IWS supporting membership, Dr. Sharpe has advised: "I apply the tax-deductible portion of any contribution or membership to the Cruzers if they specify they are part of the Cruzers" and include a note that it is for the Nest Adoption Challenge.

NOTE: CHIL or IWS Forum memberships are FREE and allow you to post and chat! A supporting membership is a monetary way to help the eagles.

IWS Supporting Membership (clickable link) is a financial supporting membership with the IWS organization - click on this link for more info. - note: you can now arrange to make payment for your sponsorship/membership over a 12 month period! Depending on the level of "sponsorship" that you choose - you can select from several items as a "thank you" - including an IWS hat, hoodie, IWS decal, note cards, shirts and more!

5. If you are sponsoring a Camera feed during the Challenge, you can have the tax deductible portion credited to the NAC! Nest Camera Sponsorship - only $25 per day - click on this link for more info.

6. If you purchase merchandise from IWS.org - click on link for more info, you can have the tax deductible portion credited - the items includes IWS sweatshirt and T-shirt, hat, wing bling, note cards, green shopping bag, Cumbrian DVD and more!

7. Another way to support the bald eagle project is thru adoption of an educational eagle - Hydi or Pimu - scroll down on the Support IWS Page for more information!

NOTE: Again just be sure to indicate "Cruzer Nest Adoption Challenge" and provide the following information: Your REAL name / your FORUM name / your home mailing address / your email address / a telephone number

You DO NOT have to be a forum member to contribute - any visitor to the forum, any observer of the nests, any lover of Eagles - you are all welcome to help support the IWS effort!

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

The 2012 Award Package - will be: For each nest that the Cruzers adopt (each $1,000 raised), the nest package will be distributed in 5 parts to 5 individuals by a random drawing at the conclusion of the NAC:

*** How will the items be distributed? Each person who contributes towards this nest adoption challenge will be entered into a drawing for a chance to receive one of the adoption benefits. The more nests that are adopted, the more packages that will be distributed.

Yes indeedy - it's April 1 a day of fun and trickery

one of our radio stations announced that everyone needed to put their cell phones into zip lock bags to protect them this morning because the phone company needed to do some maintenance and would be blowing the dirt out of the lines which dirt might get into and damage the cell phones - REALLY - you wouldn't believe how many people called about what kind of bag to use to protect their phone

HELLO - your phone is wireless and blow air thru the phone line ..... really rofl rofl

good morning one and all
another very overcast day here - no rain at the moment - I think Mr. Sun is supposed to show up a bit later!

gary and I are hoping to run out for a bit and get the last few caches that will give us 900 total to date! woo hoo - his goal this year is to hit 1,000 finds! oh boy :P

one we did yesterday actually took us to a nearby town which once was a church camp in the 1800's - folks from the Big City came there for retreat - the roads in the immediate area are like alley ways and a few of the original cottages and the pastor's home are actually still there and being lived in as other house were eventually built around them .... they are tiny, tiny cottages - the area has the nickname of Tiny Town and I can see why - what a fun find ...... never knew it was there - thank you geo caching!

anyway - hope everyone is well - have some things to tend to so BBL :}^

Last night DH and I had so much fun with Earth Hour we extended it until after midnight :P Kind of makes you have a much better appreciation for how people lived before the electric light bulb was invented :)^

I had unplugged the yard lights from the timer and it was strictly moon light amended by back lane lights here and there. I have some of these flameless candle decorative lanterns and they were fantastic plus they flicker like real candles do. They were perfect to carry upstairs to the bathroom etc  Many people on our street were observing Earth Hour too so it was pretty dark out there  Siobhan wasn't sure what was happening but she's a 'go with the flow' kind of doggie :D

On this Palm Sunday.

This is the day I usually break out my CDs of Jesus Christ Superstar: a most reverent retelling of the last week of Jesus' life. <3 I have the original studio recording of 1971 and the later movie soundtrack. I've seen live stage productions of it four times, three starring Teddy Neely, the actor most known for playing the role of Jesus, and including a recent production Ed and I attended with a new cast in 2009. We sat behind Meg Ryan and friends. :P Its had it's share of controversy and protests from religious groups but is a classic Rock Opera that's a very reverent retelling of events. This is its Palm Sunday Hosanna scene. Its co-composer Andrew Lloyd Webber has been Knighted by the Queen for his life's work. Coincidentally, one of the first Crop Circles I visited on my first trip to England in 1995 was one in a Wheat field on Andrew Lloyd Webber's land at the place called Watership Down. <3

Deb, wonderful launch to the NAC this year. :><: Where do you get all your energy? It's all I can do to show up here every couple of days lately. :hair:

Penny and Carole, you also amaze me with your extraordinary daily efforts to keep us all updated on nests and Bears. :Hugs:

Every April Fools' day I remember how glad I was that Lori wasn't born on that day, but waited until April 3rd to arrive. :D
