G'day peeps, my Good Friday. Partial cloud, nice autumn day. I'm agnostic, but love the message of today ![]() Cheryl, why are you not up to posting? (maybe I better go back and read the last few days... I've been away busy busy) Do love all the graphics today! I just love the peepettes.Karen, how nice to be able to retire and what a great feeling to you, huh. Will there be a send-off at work for you? Attended a nice dinner party last night, 8 of us laughing. Today, heading to Bob's brother's house for Good Friday BBQ fish and prawn lunch. Ken is the eldest of Bob's family. There is another older brother, Ron, from the father's previous marriage some 21 years older than Bob who passed away @5 years ago. Having a big family is great I think. Tomorrow to Bob's sister's for her birthday (another large family gathering), Easter Sunday I'm having Rachel and possibly one of Bob's son & gf here for lunch. A 'Lots of food' weekend. Here is a wonderful story: All in the line of duty: police dogs top up the blood bank http://www.smh.com.au/environment/animals/all-in-the-line-of-duty-police-dogs-top-up-the-blood-bank-20120405-1wfm0.html |

May be they need to be reminded in nest watch that another forum was referring to our beautiful Avalon as Miss Piggy due to a nick name from the nest feedings. |

Lily the Black Bear – UPDATE April 5, 2012 Short and early ![]() Cookie looks out of her den - April 4, 2012 Lynn is with the BBC crews filming at Jewel’s den. By the time he gets back, it will be too late to write an update, and the BBC has us scheduled for the evening, too. So it’s a short early update tonight. On the up side, whatever they have us doing will reach 250 million people per program. They’re filming 8 programs during April and May—all to be aired in May on BBC One and on National Geographic Channel. This is as big an opportunity to spread the good word about bears as we have ever had. The bear segment in each program will be looking at the world from the standpoint of cubs and yearlings. Minimal people. We hope people will see bears as we see them, learning directly from them as we and all Lily Fans have done. ![]() Glenn and Ted work on Cookie's collar - April 4, 2012 Jo and Victoria are the biggest roamers we are tracking by GPS. They moved over 3/4 mile today. Jewel is still at her den. Lily and Faith are the same area Sue found them yesterday. June has moved away from her den but is confining her activities to a very small area. We hope the filming will include June so we can see what she is up to there, but we pretty much do what the BBC master story tellers need to make an effective series for bears. In a way, this is the biggest educational opportunity for bears we know of. More on volunteers and what they do. The mods have probably the most thankless job. They are dedicated, faithful, and putting in many hours to make the whole Lily phenomenon possible. They and educators that work with them find fun facts about bears to sprinkle through the day. Their main reward is knowing that their mostly anonymous work is making a difference for bears. Thank you for all you do. —Lynn Rogers and Sue Mansfield, Biologists, Wildlife Research Institute and North American Bear Center |
