Our weather is turning COLD after todays high of 21C/69F. It will be snow flurries on Easter Sunday and a high of only 4C/40F and it's going to stay that way all next week :(

I'm going to try to spend some time outside to enjoy it while it lasts :)^

Kris maybe you and Ed have some ideas about this situation....I was quite upset to see a crow with a badly drooping right wing yesterday which prevented it from even flying up on a tree limb. Last night around 8:00PM there was a huge cacophony of crows cawing so I went out to look and there were at least 50 of them in the boulevard tree directly in front of our house. There on the ground was this crow hugging the base of the Elm tree. I didn't try to capture it but looked around for a cat...never saw one but the crows were beside themselves and I was just making it worse. Some of them moved to a tree a few houses down the street while others were flying around.

I watched as it walked across the street and went under some hedge bushes. It does seem able to forage, but it must be in some pain  Too bad I didn't get a :clk: of him but I came in and phoned Wildhaven Rescue and left a message on their machine. I don't want to catch this bird if I can't bring it to someone who will try to help it...of course, being the Easter weekend most people aren't at work :(

Penny, this is exactly how Ed and I have found Crows we've rescued. The flock raises such a ruckus for their fallen mate that we've been attracted by the sound to find an injured Crow to be the cause of it. The best thing to do is to capture it with a towel thrown over it if possible and then put into a box. Make sure to "Clam shell" your hands over the wings through the towel before picking him up so he can't escape. With wings held securely Birds are easier to handle. Many Bird rescue places don't care about Crows but some do. He's doomed if left on the street with a broken wing, which is what it sounds like. Ed and I have lost count of the Crows we've rescued, we seemed to attract them. Some don't make it but many do. :X: We have a dear friend in California who rehabs Crows and who we've taken many of them to. Left on his own he won't survive. Prayers for him. :candle:

If you do manage to capture him put him in a warm quiet place in a securely covered box with a towel and offer him mashed hard boiled or scrambled eggs, water in a small heavy dish, and even some wet Dog food. He may not eat if too traumatized but the quiet will help him recover his strength. Hopefully there's a rescue place locally that you can reach and that can help. :X: If you do catch him let me know and I'll ask our friend if she knows a network in Canada to contact.

Excellent Kris......we've been very lucky in that we haven't come across injured Crows....but we do have a lot of them around. I never really paid that much attention to them until I met you and read about you and Ed rescuing injured Crows. Since then, I've seen some very cool programs on Nature, and read articles about the intelligence of Crows, and I now have immense respect for them. One day I was watching the Nature program on my computer and I had the window open, and I could hear a few Crows in a nearby tree. As the program continued, the Crows outside seemed to gather, and I know I'm just fooling with my head, but I swear they could hear the calls of the Crows on the program I was watching. :)^ :<::
