Michele love your NAC posts, especially the walk down memory lane with A49 and Limuw ![]() Kris thanks for the info on how to catch the crow. I talked to the Wildlife Rescue place and they gave me some more how to's, but I haven't seen the crow since I posted about it. I have a box ready, lined with a towel in case it comes around again...bad timing because of the Holiday weekend. If I do catch it s/he may have to spend a day inside the box because everyone is closed on Easter Sunday Back to getting things ready for the second Seder tonight

Michele, a masterpiece of a presentation! Wonderful graphics! About your comment on Crows (since I go to bed so early by Nest Time, I'm frequently a day behind in responding), I wouldn't be surprised at all if your local Crows were responding to the sound of other Crows on TV. They don't get cable and would probably respond as if it were "live". Every time they raise a big ruckus it's invariably to one of their flock in distress. Sometimes it's to a Cat but most often to a fallen flock member. Their juveniles even stay with the family for a few seasons and help care for the new generations until they're ready to find their own mates. When in Santa Monica where we had lots of Crows if we ever heard a Crow cacophony we went out to see what it was about. Once we were driving a few blocks from home and encountered a mass of Crows alarm calling and gathering in an area above the small street we were on. Turned out to be a downed Crow with TWO broken wings! I was almost run over trying to corral him and we successfully captured and took him to our Crow Angel friend/rehabber who healed him and, though he was then unreleasable due to his injuries, he was given sanctuary with other unreleasables in a big aviary on a gorgeous hilltop on her ranch. We have several corvid species here where we live, and our local ones include a Rook with a leg problem and another with a deformed beak. Ed spends half his day putting food out and making sure the disadvantaged ones get enough to eat. They know him and come to the front windows and call if the feeders are empty. The Rooks are such comical Crow cousins and, though there aren't flocks of Crows here like in California, Rooks and Jackdaws are the most prevalent and flocking of the corvids. Rooks have bald faces that give them an odd look, they also can have "baggy trousers" when walking on the ground. Here Carrion Crows are more solitary and Ravens are much less common. We've only seen them in remote hilltop woods and at the Tower of London. Rook and Jackdaw (snagged pics). ![]() ![]() Jackdaws have the most unlikely chittering voice, almost like a Squirrel, and are the first to wake me in the morning. Penny, just saw your post. I'm glad you connected with the rescue people but sorry the Crow hasn't been seen again. He'd do fine in a box for the weekend if he does turn up. In fact it would be the most destressing thing for him. I forgot to say that water soaked dry Dog food kibble is an ideal food substitute for Crows, they can even live on it if need be, assuming it's not a baby in which case a mash of boiled egg and baby cereal is better.
