Richmond Eaglets aren't being fed, may be moved to other nests for video (3:33)By: REX SPRINGSTON | Times-Dispatch Published: April 14, 2012 Eagle expert Bryan Watts said he is considering moving two chicks to other eagle nests, after parent birds Virginia and James stopped feeding them Thursday. The adults are perching nearby but not returning to the nest. Watts' decision to intervene was prompted by the popularity of the four birds and the Richmond Eagle Cam, which has logged more than 1.5 million page views from more than 120 countries since it began Jan. 16. Watts said he is also considering feeding the month-old chicks in their Richmond nest — an option he ruled out earlier as being unnatural. The best scenario would be for the parents to return to the nest. "We are still believing in this pair, that they are going to take care of the brood," Watts said. "But in the unusual case that they don't, we will intervene, even though we said in the beginning that we wouldn't. "This is an unusual situation and I've grown to realize that more and more over the past week. … We are the ones who got these chicks into this, so to speak, and we are the ones who will work as hard as we can to get them out." Watts said he and other experts will watch the chicks and will move them, perhaps as early as today, if it looks as if they are not doing well. Watts flew over the James River on Friday afternoon and found several nests in the Hopewell area that would be right for the Richmond chicks, dubbed R1 and R2. If he moves them, Watts said, he would like each chick to go into a nest with one other chick, to not overburden the adoptive parents. Read More |

Sorry to be absent recently. Things "pile up", Ed not well, demands of life, etc. Carole, wishing you and Alan a safe trip home. How soon are the eggs due to hatch? I can imagine how hard it is to leave before they do. Topa, amazing lightning pic on the Bay Bridge. Penny, I wondered about the "phantom egg" thing too. Of course I've been following the Loch of Lowes blog and nest. It's the only one in my time zone. Since the new male likes to bring fluff instead of crib rails I wondered if the "egg" got buried in the fluff and Lady failed to recognize it when laid. No signs of another egg so far. Maybe his inexperience and her geriatricness is complicating the situation. I hate the part of this season when the tragedies on the various nests can happen. Cruz and A-64, Richmond nest, Colorado. But joy for the PH pair for their new chick.

'We have struck iceberg sinking fast come to our assistance' Distress call from RMS Titanic 11:55PM position LAT 41.46N Long 15.14W ![]() On April 10, 1912, the RMS Titanic left Southampton, England on her maiden voyage. After stops at Cherbourg, France and Queenstown (now Cobh), Ireland, she steamed for New York, USA carrying over 2,200 passengers and crew. Four days later, on Sunday, April 14 at 11:40 pm, Titanic struck a giant iceberg and by 2:20 am on April 15, the “unsinkable ship” was gone. In less than three hours, the pride of the White Star Line had become one of the greatest marine disasters in recorded history. Within days of the sinking, the White Star Line dispatched the first of four Canadian vessels to search for bodies. The first two vessels to carry out this grim task were the Halifax-based Cable Ships Mackay-Bennett and Minia, which recovered 306 and 17 victims respectively. In all, 150 unclaimed victims were laid to rest in Halifax, forever linking the city to the vessel’s tragic tale. Today, the city of Halifax and the Province of Nova Scotia retain many reminders of the way in which the tragedy of the Titanic touched the lives of those who lived here. From the gravestones of victims, to memorial monuments; preserved fragments of the vessel, to original photographs and documents; stories passed down through generations, to new insights and discoveries; Nova Scotians have remained respectful keepers of the vessel’s memory. To mark the Centennial Anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic, commemorative events across the province many have been planned. On April 14th, watch live webcast of Titanic Eve Night of the Bells from 9:30pm to 12:30am AST. On April 15, watch live webcast of Titanic Spiritual Ceremony from 3:00pm to 4:30pm AST. On April 14th, experience Titanic wireless messages in real time on Twitter Titanic events in Nova Scotia ![]() Tonight at approximately 11:30PM EDT there will be a wreath laying over the exact spot the Titanic went down with 1500 passengers. The US Airforce will be doing a fly past commemoration at the site as well to mark the 100th anniversary. |

Penny, (Re: Your CHIL post) how stupid can people be?? I can't believe they're reenacting the Titanic disaster. I think they deserve to encounter the same iceberg the original Titanic did! I mean get a life, spend your resources on something to save the planet and not on some self aggrandizing reenactment of something your distant ancestors were involved in that defines your pitiful identity in this life.

Titanic Artifacts and Records![]() Unknown Child's Shoes Some of the most significant artifacts and records related to RMS Titanic can be found in Nova Scotia. The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic has what is generally recognized as the world's finest collection of wooden artifacts from the vessel. These fragments, including a near perfectly preserved deckchair, are featured as part of the museum's permanent exhibit. The Nova Scotia Archives' Titanic resource contains unique photos, documents, newsmagazines and the most complete known record of bodies recovered from the site of the disaster. Penny, I saw the news coverage here and the diners on board were elaborately dressed in clothes of the period and dining on the exact same menu served on the Titanic on its last night. Looked like a reenactment to me.
