Good afternoon! :) Wow! That is some drama on the NBG nest! Wonder if there will even be eggs there this season. :wacko: Poor dad :lol:

Deb...how exciting for Gary and for you! At least your trip to Cali will help make the time go faster for you. And will you be able to take pics inside when you go or is that a no no?

Haven't read the last few days but I will try to catch up tonight.

We had quite a rainstorm on Friday! Even had thunder, lightning and hail! Kids got so excited it was hard getting them out of the doorway to allow the parents to come in :lol: And of course, they ALL decide they have to go to the restroom at that time! But you know that they really just want to go out in the rain :wacko:

Savta Topa Cathy...is Zoey living with you permanently now?? Please do be careful of the snakes and bears! :blink: Think I would find a safer place to hike for the time being. :lol:

Check out this slideshow of the nest building process for the rufous hornero (red oven) bird. Talk about amazing!! These birds pretty much mate for life and are from Eastern South American. The nest can be built in about 5 days but usually they take longer.

gary takes photos when he goes to the Tower site from time to time but we can't share 'em :( he's been on the 83rd floor - no windows - just wide open spaces!

they are saying maybe a may visit? we'll see

actually his office does the "shell" of the building and all services (bathrooms, etc.) and public spaces

when a client rents/leases a space - they then build or finish it out to suit their needs - putting up walls, finishes, etc.

I thought his office did the spec for everything but such is not the case! interesting....

Hi everybody. It's very windy here today with some downed trees in the area. Ian's house has no power but we are OK so far. It is so warm that I was able to do some gardening without a jacket on. The dogs have spring fever.

Deb, that was quite a kerfuffle with Trinity and the other dogs. You were fast being able to grab Trinity like that. Both you and Gary must be so excited about the upcoming tower events. It is a very attractive building with some shape and style rather than just a straight tower. I'm glad that Megan is doing better today.

The NBG drama continues. :hair:

Good news that the male osprey is doing really well with his incubation duties.

Topa, I was wondering the same thing as Karen .... Do you have Zoey to keep forever now? I hope so.

Praline, well done on your bright and cute eagle graphics today!

Ozzie, good eye noticing the pregnant praying mantis. You must have rushed inside to get your camera and then had to find the mantis again. :clk: :ok:

Cool slideshow about the ovenbird nest, Karen. It really does look like they built a small, clay oven. So clever.

Still waiting for the Lily Update so here's a story about an orphan bear cub who is staying at the Winnipeg Zoo...

<3 Posted Image <3
The bear cub was rescued after being found near death in a ditch in March, close to St. Malo, Manitoba.

Updated: Mon Apr. 16 2012 18:33:57
ctvwinnipeg.ca

Some people are raising concerns that an orphaned bear cub named Makoon may not have a good chance of survival when he's released back into the wild in June.

Rene Dubois found the orphaned bear cub in a ditch near St. Malo in March.

Dubois decided to help him, taking him to his home.

"I couldn't leave him there. The little cub was in distress so I picked him up and brought him here," said Dubois.

Later, the bear was turned over to Manitoba Conservation and then brought to a facility at the Assiniboine Park Zoo.

Meet Makoon

:clk: for video and the rest of the story.

TODAY IS THE OLDEST YOU'VE EVER BEEN, YET THE YOUNGEST YOU'LL EVER BE, SO ENJOY THIS DAY WHILE IT LASTS.

Observations On Growing Older
~Your Kids are becoming you...and you don't like them!

~Going Out is good.. Coming Home is better!

~You Forget names .... But it's OK because other people forgot they Even knew you!!!

~You realize you're never going to be really good at anything .... Especially Golf.

~Your spouse is counting on you to remember things you don't remember.

~The things you used to care to do, you no longer care to do, but you really do care that you don't care to do them anymore.

~Your husband sleeps better on a lounge chair with the TV blaring than he does in bed. It's Called " Pre-sleep".

~You miss the days when everything worked with just an " ON" and " OFF" Switch..

~You tend to use more 4 letter words ... " what?" .......
" when?"... ???

~Now that you can afford expensive jewelry, it's not safe to wear it anywhere.

~You notice everything sold in stores is " sleeveless" !!!!

~What used to be freckles are now liver spots.

~Everybody Whispers.
~Now that your husband has retired ..... You'd give anything if he'd find a job!

~You have 3 sizes of clothes in your closet .... 2 of which you will never wear.

~~~But Old is good in some things: Old songs, Old movies, and best of all, OLD FRIENDS!!
It's Not What You Gather, But What You Scatter That Tells What Kind Of Life You Have
Lily the Black Bear – UPDATE April 16, 2012
Hunkering Down
Posted Image :clk:
Juliet and cubs in their snowy bed under a balsam - April 16, 2012
With an 8-inch blizzard overnight, mothers with 3-month-old cubs have hunkered down and are working to keep cubs dry and warm. 9-year-old Juliet is bedded under the shelter of balsam fir in a dense thicket at the edge of a swamp. Her cubs spent the day mostly nestled in her fur—dry and playful. They ventured out from their furry shelter to wrestle from time to time. Juliet’s job is to lick them dry. Any flake that falls on them is licked off immediately. The cub’s dry fur demonstrates Juliet’s good work. Juliet’s own fur is wet on her back and sides from the rain and blizzard.
Jewel bedded near cedar - April 16, 2012
3-year-old Jewel is surrounded by cedars and balsams that provide shelter and safety. Cedars are easy for cubs to climb. Jewel is also wet and trying to keep her cubs dry but having a harder time.
Jewel's back is covered with snow - April 16, 2012
Mothers with yearlings are not hunkered down as tightly but they’re conserving energy by not traveling when the meager existing food sources are covered by 8 inches of heavy snow.
Song Sparrow - April 16, 2012
Birds that returned to warm conditions might wonder how winter returned in such a big way. The temperature stayed below freezing today, but the snow should mostly melt tomorrow with the temperature forecast to be 48F.
As the dark clouds retreated to the east, the sun shone briefly under the western edge and treated us to a glowing sunset.
We’re still glowing from the wonderful birthday party and good words from Saturday.
Thank you for all you do.
Awesome news from B-)) The NAC Team Rules!!! :><: :><: :><:
I'm keeping :X: the bear cub here will be kept for a longer time so he will have a better chance at survival. No one has shown him how to survive, unlike the juvie who has its parents to watch and learn from. Makes me wonder how that cubbie who was at WCV is doing out on his own :unsure:
I was surprised to see how much :flk: :flk: they got in Ely. It has been so cold here too and a very gusty, wind... it's -5C/23F right now and it only made it to 3C/37F for a high today. Tomorrow should be a warmer day here and in Ely.
:}^ Carole continued safe travels...can't believe you do that drive in 3 days!!!
Ozzie how many eggs does a praying mantis lay? She looks so full it must be hard for her to walk on those spindly legs :P
