You can read more about this girl at the URL below. She is just amazing.

Here is her blog - if you can read Japanese??? I cannot?

Inspiring! Please take a moment and watch this.

Subject: Overcoming Adversity

She has a beautiful voice and a beautiful face... This young Japanese girl is so happy and grateful to be alive and appreciates everything and everyone around her - immensely. You can genuinely see it in her face. One doesn't need to understand the words in her song. Just watch her joyful disposition. There are lessons to be learned here in that we are so very fortunate. After watching this video, how can any of us complain about anything? http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=q6_Zzw3SPS4

Thank you Penny, Carole and Deb! Deb I got kinda teary-eyed on the last one - Extraordinary. That was my last letter to do, and it took me a good two hours after the others to even start it! The word popped in my head, then the pictures of the eaglets ready for their first flight. then I just started writing all the Nest Obs highlights so to speak that blur by so quickly leading up to that day of fledging. A bittersweet day, but this is why we are here!! Plus the photos in that panel have some eaglets no longer with us. The top is WE 2011's trplets, middle is TH 2010 with K-04 Avalon and K-06 Gabriele, and then TH 2011 with K-18 Solotaire

Jeanne, excellent NAC presentation! :)^ Really puts the history of the project into perspective. :ok:

Carole, hope you two are resting up after your long journey. What wonderful news about the chick's hatching and such a great pic of the little guy! :)^

My "Favorite Volcano", Mt. Popocatepetl, has been acting up this week and a heightened alert has been issued for those living nearby. An eruption is possibly imminent. It's a magnificent sight from Mexico City, where I once visited years ago. The film "Man on Fire" was filmed there and has some great shots of smoldering Popo in the background, and is my favorite Denzel Washington film. Well worth watching. :ok: I experienced Mexico City in 1989 when my SO at the time was working on the film "Total Recall" as a storyboard artist. I had an inside glimpse of how all of Arnold Schwarzennegar's T-Shirts had extra large shoulder pads in them to hide his lack of shoulders from his years of weight lifting. :P And also saw how he was romancing his costar while his new wife was back at home waiting for him.

These are a few pics of the local Rooks that are trying to take over our Bird feeders. They're so endearing and funny looking with their bald gray faces it's hard to drive them off but they're monopolizing the feeders lately. We have to work out a way to feed them and not let the small Birds and Ducks go hungry. I found that our precious white Duck "Daffy" is nesting on the canal at the end of our yard. I located her nest at the edge of the canal yesterday and hope no one or nothing else finds it before her Duckilngs hatch. :X: I'd take a pic but am afraid of scaring her and calling attention to the nest.

These guys are so comical in their manner. You can see some of their under beak crops bulging with food. In an American Crow this is much less obvious because their feathers cover that area. Posted Image

Forgot to add this pic of Lady's new mate. (wish he had a name  ) He's proving to be such a good probably first time Dad. He's been pulling fluff up and over his body as he incubates to help shield the eggs.

Hi everybody.

Jeanne, what a clever way to cover so much of the history of IWS and the eagles. Your acrostic presentation is fantastic. Bravo!

Welcome home, Carole. Congratulations to the sandhill pair on their new chick. Nice family photo by your friend. Our snowbird neighbours just returned a few days ago, too.

We were out buying three garden rocks yesterday. There was a really good selection at the garden centre, all in big wooden bins. First you choose some rocks and then get them weighed. They were from 25 to 35 cents per pound. Now I would like a larger one. Maybe Ian could help Robert lift it out of the car.

The rooks look like such characters, Kris. We have the same problem with blackbirds taking over. Today I saw my first chipping sparrow back from wherever it was. Our neighbourhood leucistic robin has returned to his/her territory. I posted a photo of it last year. This is the third year that we've seen it in its little four-house territory. I was relieved that it was back - although it arrived later than the other robins.

Great picture of the triplets, Topa. The third chick seems to have figured out how to push his way to the front.
:)^

Whooper Update: I think this is amazing, how they remember the route with no adults to guide them back (or ultralights ;) ).

Date: April 17, 2012 Reporter: Heather Ray
Subject: NORTHWARD JOURNEY UPDATE Location: Main Office
Word arrived last night that the latest PTT data indicate an April 15th daytime location in Wayne Co., IL for Whooping crane 9-11*. Data from the same evening have cranes 4* & 7-11* at a roost location in Bureau County, IL. It is possible that the nine cranes are still traveling as a group, however, we have no way of confirming this.
The following image illustrates the ultralight-led migration route these young cranes were led along last fall. The red map points and line depict the route these birds are taking as they return north.
