World's 1st Doggy Ice Cream Truck - In the UK, "dog healthy ice cream" has made a splash. At dog parks, ears perk up to the sounds of Scooby Doo music signaling treat time!

Penny, your artistic friend, Karen, has taken batik to a whole new level of creativity with the characters and landscapes in her work. I have a large batik fabric piece that we bought in the Caribbean years ago and had framed. It is more swirls and blobs, etc.. I enjoyed her explanation of the stories behind her characters. Thanks for sharing. Have you ever been to her studio to see her at work?
I have known Karen for a lot of years and was at her former studio at her Lipton Street Studio business address. Since the fire she has moved into a shared studio space with another artist friend in an artists Co-op on Clifton Street and I see her quite often.

I own this one of hers plus other small frameable ones.

Idunn and her magic apples

Idunn was the keeper of the golden apples which kept the G-ds young as long as they ate one each day because they were not immortal. The two birds are the ravens Hugin and Munin, which represented thought and memory. Each morning Odin sent forth the Ravens and they flew over the nine worlds, gathering information about the activities of the different peoples of the earth.. At night they returned and sat on his shoulders to tell him what they heard and saw.

Karen is actually a brilliant batik artist and has done many huge installations in museums and other commercial buildings as well as teaching her craft. She makes all sizes of batiks from individual cards to wall hangings to interior accessories such as cat pillows and small hanging items, dolls and much more. She does custom work too.

Penny - Karen's work is beautiful, what a creative artist she is. Love your framed batik <3

Cheryl - Thanks for the whooper update and your compliments on yesterday's promo. Now if we had a Doggie Ice Crem truck, Maya would remember the music played and make a dash for the front door. :D

Cheryl, love the Doggie Ice Cream vendor. :P We're so far out in the Boonies that the closest thing to that is our friend Polly's Gypsy Caravan Tours. As the weather improves we have these caravans to have to negotiate around on the narrow roads in our tiny neighborhood. Just yesterday we had to drive around one just up the road. Not fun when a huge tractor is in the oncoming side of the lane. :8O: Polly's a long time friend and Ambassador for the local "color" here. With Ed and I both having Romany Gypsy roots we feel right at home. :D Ed's mother even used to take him to Gypsy Horse auctions as a child, and his Grandmother's belongings were burned in her caravan when she died. :o My Gypsy ancestors are a few generations more removed.

Penny, loved your Norwegian Batik artist friend and her work. :><: What a tragedy to lose so much of it in a fire! :( I knew an animation genius who died a couple of years ago who had lost most of his life's work in devastating California fire not long before his death. It has to be the most annihilating thing to happen to an artist. <:3 In the same context I remember my friend since teen years, Mike, who couldn't survive the same devastation to his art. <:3

(Cross-posting from CHIL)

Thank you all for the kind words about my memorial NAC post to the Two Harbors chick this morning. I will tell you it was with many tissues that I went through Nest Obs and AEATT to gather the pictures and then put the collage together. I absolutely loved that little chick. It was a real sweetheart and I am still stunned by its loss. Oh here come the tears again!! The TH chick and Little #3 on West End sort of stole my heart this year.

And even though this year's TH chick will never get a number or a name or be counted in any way other than as a failed nest,it was so much more than that. I watched it every day, and it survived the hatching where its sibling did not, and it survived that huge branch being blown onto K82 that morning. And it grew and it got bigger and it absolutely adored Dad. It seemed such a sweet and happy eaglet. I enjoyed having the nest up on my monitor full screen, watching the chick peer over Mom's rock like a sailor looking out to sea, perhaps dreaming big eagle dreams... It's fuzzy down all in a halo from the setting sunlight, surrounded by diamonds of light as it leaned on its tippy talons, looking out for a parent... I will always have cherished memories of that sweet little chick. With or without a name and a number, it was, and it made me smile every day. <:3 :candle:

Yeah Santa Monica Pier, loved that trip a great deal and very grateful to Carole and Deb for inviting me along. This year's trip will be considerably low key and very short! I do hope we can all make it out again at the same time again. It was a lot of fun.
