A-11 and A-21 were originally known as the Yellowbanks Pair from Santa Cruz Island.

In 2011 they moved to Anacapa Island to set up their first known nest.

well got home - quick change and headed to beach for walk ....
on way back to car - ES was down by the water and came across this little fella

Posted Image Posted Image

clickable photos

the lady there - had called rescue and sent photos - they did call back and said it was too late to come get him (getting dark and over 2 hr drive) so.....
he was spunky and had wiggled his way from the water up to high tide mark - he looked pretty healthy except a cut on one side - just a baby though :(
so we left and I'm sure she's going back in the AM to see if they come pick him up ..... hard to leave him there but nothing we could do......

copying from last night ......

Well here's what's been going on:

Fri after layoff - ES called one of his old bosses (they have 2 offices) and met with a friend which seemed to be positive - encouraging
Mon - 8am - old boss called ES to meet him on Tues
then LI office called and texted him to come in this week to talk too
then headhunter called about sending his resume to a place

Tues - met with old boss and it was super positive!
a friend at that office saw ES - called his wife who then called ES and took his resume for her office who is hiring
ES then emailed contacts thru AIA Board and several sent him a bunch of places to consider/apply to

Wed - called old boss for follow up - called LI office for appointment today
contacted a couple of the other companies

Thurs - got call from old boss who offered ES job in NYC
talked with LI office who doesn't want to compete with NYC office BUT has said that should ES decide to not return to City to work, they have a position for him and would still like to talk to him
(all by 8:30 this morning)

SOOOOOOO ES is going to accept the NYC job and should be back to work on Monday! :**: back with a former boss and co-workers! a place he liked and knows and with a few extra $$$ to boot! :ok: We're going to have lunch and discuss it a little further to be sure and then he'll call old boss this afternoon. There is a meeting tomorrow AM and they want to reassign staff to get gary into place! WOO HOO

Sooooo we're still not able to do the CA since it's all been so close in date :( but we are still going to OH for family visit and that's OK with us too.

Thank you all so much for your positive and encouraging posts - it truly did help us thru a very stressful, unexpected event in our life! (((GH))) can't say enough about that Cruzer Mojo - it gets the job done that's for sure!

NOW I can renew our IWS memberships - whew! :<<o>>: (and get my credit hehehe)

It followed the camera guy around everywhere. The animal rescue was called because it appeared it was having some issues although there didn't seem to be any visible injuries. Don't know what happened to it

I hope the little one you saw last night will be ok :X:

Congrats to Gary on his new job!!! Wooooooohooooooooooo!! :><: >O< :88: :**: That is sooooooo awesome!!

Jeanne...the NAC post yesterday made me :'( :'( :'( :'( It was beautiful!!!!! YOU ROCK, girlfriend!!!!!

And Cheryl...the NAC post for today was really awesome!! I learned a lot there that I had known (or had forgotten) and I LOVE LOVE LOVE that pic you used of Anacapa!! Soooooooo adorable rofl

Well, I am soooooo tired and have a major headache! I just got done sorting over $21K in cold hard cash!!!!! Oh yeah, it wasn't real money ...its Monopoly money rofl rofl rofl Sorted out the game cabinet at work. :D All the kinders went to early start school today as they are doing a field trip to Legoland so I am all by myself B) and loving it. Also, 2 of the kids that come in the morning and are the worst troublemakers and LOUD did not come this morning so I am really enjoying this morning :) Retirement is going to be soooooo wonderful just for the fact that I won't have to deal with those 2 anymore in the am's.!

Jim is going to be home tonight even tho he wasn't supposed to be home until next wknd. My power has been flickering off and on since last wk and its getting worse so he's coming home to see if he can figure out what's wrong and get an electrician to fix it. The house was built in 1966 and of course they used the cheapest electrical stuff possible so its all falling apart. 2 nights ago I went out to the laundry room and got a flashlight just in case it went out and no sooner had I put in the batteries, out the power went! Went out to the fuse box and flipped the main breaker and it came back on but flickered a bit still. Then last night it keep going completely off then on again. Our light above our bed is on a remote so everytime the power comes back on so does the light. Got woken up about 5 times last night!! :'( :'(  Been carrying my flashlight around the house with me just in case. Don't want to be stuck in the dark. And can't be online too long since it keeps going out. I am just afraid its going to cost a small fortune to get the problem fixed. I am sure they are going to have to put in a whole new breaker box.

Well, gonna go read a few days back while I have the time here at work with no kids :)

<::: Welcome Back Birds 2012

Arctic Tern.............................Sandhill Crane................Swainson's Hawk

12 Ways to Help Birds

1. Prevent Window Collisions Birds will fly into windows because they see nature reflected in the glass. Make your home or cottage windows visible to birds by applying UV reflective window decals, or strips or blocks of tape, or hanging exterior netting in front of particularly deadly windows. In the spring and fall, turn off exterior lights and draw curtains at night to prevent migratory birds from colliding with windows. For more information on how you can help, visit Fatal Light Awareness Program (FLAP) and the American Bird Conservancy.

2. Protect Birds from Pets Keeping your cat in a controlled space will prevent it from killing birds. Unleashed dogs in natural habitat can harm birds too, disturbing, chasing, and even killing them. Migrating birds and young birds just out of the nest are especially vulnerable.

3. Create a Healthy Yard for Birds Avoid using pesticides and herbicides in your yard as they are harmful to birds and the food they eat. Provide birds with food, nest sites and cover by planting native plants. Leave leaves under trees and shrubs – they make excellent foraging sites. Provide and maintain a source of clean water and keep feeders clean and disease-free by changing seed regularly. Check out these tips on how to make your yard bird-friendly, plus detailed information on what types of plants are native to Southern Ontario.

4. Leave Fledglings Where You Find Them Fledglings may spend several days on the ground after they leave the nest and before they can fly. Help them by keeping people and pets away, so their parents can care for them. If you think a bird is truly an orphan, call a wildlife rehabilitation centre for advice. Not sure if an animal is sick, injured orphaned? Check out these tips on what to do if you find an animal in distress.

5. Learn and Respect Canada’s Bird Laws The federal Migratory Bird Convention Act, and provincial wildlife laws protect birds, their nests and eggs from harm, capture and possession in Canada. It is also illegal to purchase, keep or trade threatened species of wildlife from other countries without permit. Learn more about Canada's bird laws.

6. Make Your City Bird-Friendly City Parks, ravines, and open spaces are natural places for migrant and resident birds. Work with your community to restore the habitat that once existed in your area and reduce risks to birds. Get City Council to recognize International Migratory Bird Day and declare your city “Bird Friendly.” This year the city of Vancouver will recognize a similar significant day for birds - World Migratory Bird Day - with a series of events.

7. Slow Down When Driving Cars kill millions of birds each year. Driving within speed limits gives you more time to respond to animals on the road and sounding your horn warns animals that you are coming and gives them time to get out of the way. Explore this issue in-depth.

8. Buy Bird-Friendly Products Support bird conservation by purchasing shade-grown organic coffee and chocolate from Latin America. Shade coffee farms mimic native forests and support more bird species than sun coffee farms.

9. Help Get Kids Into Nature Help kids connect with nature by taking them for a walk in a park or sponsoring their membership to a young naturalist club. Help schools make school yards more interesting and more natural by supporting their efforts with donations of time and plants. Young naturalist clubs exist across Canada. Get in touch with your local club.

10. Be a Citizen Scientist Many projects need helpers to gather data on birds and their habitat. You can contribute just by watching your bird feeder. Visit an Important Bird Area and enter your observations on eBird. Contact your local naturalist group, Nature Canada or Bird Studies Canada, to volunteer for a project that suits you.

11. Reduce Energy Use Riding your bike or walking reduces your carbon footprint and prevents pollution of bird habitats. Switching off the lights in your house saves energy and also helps prevent birds from colliding with your windows.

12. Support Groups that Protect Birds Support groups that work to protect birds by volunteering your time or making a donation. Why not participate in the Baillie Birdathon or le Grand Défi (in Quebec) and join birders in a bird count that supports bird conservation? Help keep common birds common and endangered birds protected!
