DT practices her brooding technique last night at the Norfolk nest She likes to keep her back end UP in the air ![]() Every evening near dusk, DT and Pa show up, do some nestorizing and DT lays in the nest bowl for a bit. ![]() Screencaps by Deejay Every morning, Pa takes a turn in the nest bowl while DT perches on the branch. Seems like the mating behaviours have really started to wane now and maybe that is just as well. The paparazzi have taken quite a few of Pa and DT perching and preening together over the past week so it seems they are forming a pair bond and hopefully they will still be together for next years nesting season ![]() Still not sure what the DVGIF is going to do regarding that tree as there has been talk of removing it

WCV Update on Great Horned Owlet ![]() Patient #12-0317 - Great Horned Owlet was found alone in the Shenandoah Valley Campground early April 2012. After an unsuccessful re-nesting attempt, the owl was admitted to the Wildlife Center of Virginia and placed with a non-releasable surrogate. April 27 update The Great Horned Owl chick looks less and less like a chick each day — and seems to be doing well with Papa G’Ho. The young owl has been out of its night-time crate this past week, and has been entertaining Critter Cam viewers each evening (cam hours have been extended to midnight). The rehab staff report that the owl’s weight has been consistent. The veterinary staff will be catching the owl today just for one more check of the owl’s mouth — to monitor the bruising and broken blood vessels that were noted upon admission. Cam viewers may also note several blue drapes in the owls’ enclosure – these are present so that the veterinary team can collect a fecal sample WCV Critter Cam |

This is an amazing video of an ant hole that was filled in with cement and dug up to see what it looked like. Very interesting and video is short. Fascinating! http://www.dump.com/2011/08/30/worlds-biggest-ant-hill-video/ |
