The chick is going to have a complete check-up, fed, cleaned up (maggots) and returned to the nest as soon as possible.
The rescue team was amazing, praying all is well with this precious chick :candle:

Penny, that must be a huge relief to have the lawsuit settled. Now you and Allan can go on a special trip. You need to replace those photos that were lost in the computer crash. ;)

Carole, thanks for all the photos of the MN rescue. You got some really good ones. Anybody who missed it live will still be able to see what happened. At least (so far) it sounds like all the chick's ailments are treatable. :X: I feel sorry for it with the maggots, poor thing. The tree climber seemed to be a biologist possibly as well as a climber. He was looking the chick over like an expert. That nest needs some fresh branches and fluff.

Lily the Black Bear – UPDATE May 4, 2012

Happy 5th Birthday NABC

Posted Image :clk:

Field work took a back seat today as the BBC begins the countdown to the first broadcast of Planet Earth Live and Bear Center staff prepare for the North American Bear Center’s 5th anniversary celebration tomorrow. Visitors to the Bear Center tomorrow will be greeted by costumed bears and there will be guided nature trail walks, door prizes every hour, and face-painting for kids and the “young at heart.” Cake, cookies, and coffee will be available.

For those unable to join in the onsite festivities, tomorrow starts 5 days (through May 9th) of free shipping for domestic webstore orders. Canada/Mexico shipping rate will be a flat fee of $10 and the International shipping rate will be a flat fee of $20 for the 5 day period.

New items are being added to the webstore as we write this! They can be seen later this evening here.

At the Bear Center a couple days ago, Lucky got a new water toy that apparently had an attractive odor. For some reason, he wanted to rub his head on it. See what you think Lucky's new toy.

News is spreading about the upcoming BBC and NatGeoWILD broadcasts .

Video footage of Jewel, Herbie, and Fern from April 27 is posted on YouTube

So many of you are doing so much behind the scenes.

Thank you for all you do.

—Lynn Rogers and Sue Mansfield, Biologist, Wildlife Research Institute and North American Bear Center
