Howdy everyone - yes MIA Deb - I'm glad we did 2 day drive to get here but not happy that we are doing 1 day drive to get back next weekend LOL

Also glad we stopped for Flight 93 visit yesterday ....

We're off to see my mom this morning at her new "home"
Tomorrow we (w/DD) will be doing a little OH site seeing - to the Amish area, up to the islands in Lake Erie and over to Toledo so I'll be pretty much MIA some more. Lots of catching up to do when I can find a moment or next week ......

Sure hope everyone is well

Praline your posts yesterday were great - loved the 2nd 3rd LOL take a trip.... whoooooeeee bet that was a surprise!

ES is giving me the eye time to go.....

I'll BBL! :}^

(speaking of which he cut his lip on a glass that broke at the restaurant last night :( they were so nice - brought him an ice pack - he got his dinner free and a $30 gift card - it's a little black blue and tender but it was more of a puncture instead of a cut that it could have been - eek! so we're thankful for that - the restaurant is using thin promo glasses provided by a beer company and the lady said they break easily - THEN WHY DO YOU USE THEM)

It's been pouring :rn: all night and this morning here hoping to get up to 16C/56F. It's only 9C/48F right now but by Thursday we get the heat back in the mid 70's F. Maybe my plants can get outside and stay there :X:

Carole I felt bad that Harmon had to stay in the nest all night with no mombrella. It was quite cold and lots of thunder/lightning there overnight :o :X: his parents show up soon.

Deb thanks for showing us the Memorial for the 911 victims at the crash site. That must have been emotional :candle:

Good thing ES didn't need stitches :o If they know the glasses break easily they shouldn't even use them....that would be grounds for a lawsuit is anyone got seriously hurt

Smart phones are so intelligent, look what they can accomplish when someone knows how to use them. I'm looking forward to the next round of OH slideshows :)^

Hey Kris don't be a stranger :ok:

What's happening with your backyard denizens? Did Daffy have her ducklings yet?
I'm sorry to have been MIA lately. :( After the "wettest April in 100 years, since records have been kept" the water level of the canal we're on rose and swamped several Duck nests, including Daffy's. :'( :'( She tried to stay on it until her eggs began floating away and the nest was waterlogged. At least two other females who also would be hatching Ducklings this week started showing up on the lawn and had apparently lost their nests too. <:3 <:3 And there's more rain to come. :(

Yesterday we went to the Winnipeg Art Gallery to view the Norman Rockwell Exhibition and what a treat it was :D

The Norman Rockwell Exhibition at the WAG

We arrived just minutes before a tour started which we went on followed by our own self guided audio tour. We were there for three hours and could have stayed longer but they were closing at 5:00PM.

We managed to sneak a few :clk: :clk: 's but were told pics weren't allowed so we had to stop.

The little boy in this image was supposed to be a Christmas Post cover...he has found a santa suit in the drawer of his parents bedroom. The editor at the Post did not run it until after Christmas because he didn't want to upset America's kids. The story accompanying it was that the mother said Santa left it there so it could be dry cleaned

Posted Image

The main room held every single Saturday Evening Post cover Norman Rockwell ever painted hung in decades.

Posted Image

Period furniture and furnishings lent an authentic atmosphere. I loved those comb back windsor chairs.

Posted Image

There was a special area for children to do art and one for taking a photo against a backdrop of The Saturday Evening Post cover.

The interesting thing is he was such a perfectionist he would often paint up to 18 full size versions of each cover until he was satisfied. Yes, every single one was a full sized oil painting. He had ongoing issues with his editor at the Post regarding content he was 'allowed' to depict and so after the assassination of John Kennedy in 1963 he left the Post after 47 years.

He led a very colorful life, had three wives, and often used his three sons as models in his paintings...bribeing them with quarters or the promise of a trip to FAO Schwartz to pick out a toy, if they would just stop complaining about holding a pose  He was really a collector of all kinds of props to use in his depictions and once saw a farmer working in a field with a pair of worn, dirty pants on and traded him for his own clean trousers just to get them for a painting he was working on. His second wife Mary actually became very depressed over his drive for perfection and after her death he married a retired school teacher who encouraged him to paint 'political' events and social issues, as he had always wanted to do. During his entire 47 years at The Post he was never allowed to depict black American's other than in a service role.

One of these paintings was the renowned 'The Problem We All Live With' depicting the young black girl who had to be escorted to her school by US Marshalls while being pelted with tomatoes and taunted with racial epithets. That little girl was Ruby Bridges who spent her entire year alone in the classroom because the parents of the white children did not want her in the same class with their children. There was a video of this event accompanying the painting.

When Barack Obama requested the painting for the White House, even today, it was hung in a private area not open to the public because of the racist 'N' word prominent in the center of it.

Rockwell was also involved with the BSA painting their calendars for his entire lifetime beginning when he was just 17. There were many anecdotal comments about how concerned the BSA was about exactly how the scout looked in each painting. In one the scout was rescuing a young girl with her kitten from a flood. They didn't like that his pants looked unkempt because they were wet, so Rockwell changed them turning the pants into shorts. This painting is depicted in a video at the end of the WAG link above.

There was an area with a 12 minute video of his life produced for this show and narrated by his son sculptor Peter Rockwell as were the audio tour vignettes.

American Chronicles: The Art of Norman Rockwell- part 1 (5:31)

American Chronicles: The Art of Norman Rockwell- part 2 (6:18)

All in all, a beautiful experience and we may just go back again :)^

Oh Kris that is just too sad :'( :'(

I guess there is no hope of rescuing the eggs and putting them elsewhere as they are probably too cold after the ducks being off them. Do you think they may lay second clutches

Lots of :Hugs: :Hugs: for you and Ed. Nature is so hard to bear somethimes :(

Oh, Kris, I'm so sorry about Daffy's nest, and the others that got flooded out. Sometimes nature is just so darn harsh. :'( :'( Rain is a good thing, but never when you get too much of it at once.
