Cruzers Wow what a storm we had here yesterday, the was extremely hard and the flowers have paid the price...lots look like a horde of caterpillars went through the yard ![]() Today it's a totally different story shining brightly although it will only get to a high of 18C/65F. Later in the week we'll be back to the mid 70's

Praline - Adorable post . Kudos to you for taking such good care of the little bird, hopefully the Wildlife Center will make it all better. ![]() Penny - Sorry to hear about the damage to your flowers, especially after all the work you put into your garden. Hopefully they will come back and look as good as new. Never a dull moment at our house. Alan woke up with a full blown case of shingles. A few days ago he mentioned that he felt a funny tingling on his midriff and thought nothing of it. He isn't in pain thank goodness. I called our GP at home but he is out until later this afternoon but spoke with his wife and she will have him call us later. |

Yesterday was a bit hectic because DH is on the board of the Winnipeg Fashion Incubator and they were holding their second annual Spring show and sale. I was helping move stuff into the venue amid serious downpours and getting lunch delivered to the models among other small chores. ![]() We weren't sure how well it would be attended because of the long weekend here but the four fashion shows were a big draw so it turned out well. Interestingly there were some attendees who were disabled and one lady with a respirator on her medical bed with two caregivers was busy buying jewelery. DH did not want to get a of her but I thought that was pretty special. He's going to upload some photos to their FB site later today.

Carole shingles is a serious issue DH and I have decided to get the innoculation for it because anyone who has ever had chicken pox will most likely get shingles in later life and it's no fun. Allan will not be in any pain from it.The weather wasn't the only problem with the plants yesterday. A grey squirrel was in my front pots early this morning and completely uprooted two begonias. Luckily they are plugs so they shouldn't have too much shock. I'm not sure what to do about it because last year it was every single day. Maybe there is a squirrel repellent I'll talk to my neighbor and ask him to stop putting out peanuts in the shell for them now. Wish he would buy the ones that are already shelled instead.

Carole, I'm sorry to hear about Alan's Shingles. Ed had them a few years ago and really suffered. Apparently you can get them from being exposed to Chicken Pox, although he wasn't unless at the market or somewhere. Penny, I researched Squirrel repellants a few months ago when we were in the house with the horrible landlords who had a Squirrel trap on our side of the common fence we shared. We were appalled and did all we could to keep them from trapping any Squirrels, including using homemade repellant recipes and info I found online. Any captured Gray Squirrel in the UK by law has to be "humanely destroyed", and we suspected any they caught might end up in their kitchen as well. It's due to some old demonization of them for nearly "wiping out" the indigenous Red Squirrels after Grays were introduced from America hundreds of years ago. Anyway, any kind of hot pepper, cayenne, chili pepper, and Fox urine if possible combination in a sprayable form is advised. Here are a couple of links to more: Homemade Squirrel repellant, and More Squirrel repellant info. Some pet supply stores actually sell Fox and Lion urine for repellants but lacking that Ed was happy to contribute a substitute. Our repellant was liberally applied to the trap and the fence area it was mounted on. We don't know how ultimately successful it was since we move shortly afterward, and feared for the poor Squirrels after we left. Praline, very cute morning opener! I'm so glad you were able to get the little Bird to a rescue facility and hope he's doing well. We took a walk in nearby Westwoods yesterday and caught the end of the Bluebells blooming and the new neon green foliage of the deciduous trees. No color manipulation at all, it really was that glowing green. ![]() |

Kris - Alan has no pain, just a bit itchy. I picked up the meds and he started them a few minutes ago. I've heard horror stories about people suffering from shingles so we didn't waste any time, just lucky our doctor was at home. What a beautiful photo, the leaves really do look neon and the bluebells are so lovely, a very idyllic spot. Hugs to you and Ed

![]() Good Sunday Mornin....barely.....opppppssss, I mean Agfternoon!!! Praline - I LOVE your NAC post.... it is so cute and clever!!! You have such a good imagination. Penny, love the opening graphic....but then again, I always do. You find some of the best ones out there. I love the pix from the fashion show (?).....it, to me, is sort of a throw back to another era....the 20's. I'm so sorry that the weather made a shambles of your garden, and now you have a pesky squirrel problem to contend with. I hope your neighbor will be understanding and willing to make a few changes about feeding the squirrels. Kris, I LOVE the pix of the trees and the bluebells from Westwoods. The color is simply amazing!!! We have just the opposite problem here. The grey squirrel is indigenous to the foothills, and they've been run out of our neck of the woods by the fox squirrel. We end up each Spring and Summer playing this game of who can get to our Pears and tomatoes first....us or the squirrels.....d'oh...... Carole, I am so sorry to hear that Alan has shingles.....I hope that catching it early and getting on this medication, will prevent the full blown symptoms. My doc had been after both Chuck and I to receive the shot....I got mine this year (Yea!!!), and Chuck will get his when he goes in for his annual Physical. I'm sending Alan my prayers, light and love that he is spared any of the awful effects of Shingles, and that it's short lived. Edited by Michele, May 20 2012, 11:06 AM.

Michele - I am going to get the shingles vaccine this week. Did you have any side affects or reactions to it? Thank you for your good wishes for Alan, he really is a good patient, no complaining yet
