How can we help - how can we spread the word? ![]() Scott and Dave on the Computer ![]() Cruzer friends ![]() PH nest hike on Santa Cruz ![]() Listening to the IWS biologists .................................. .................................. ![]() Banding day - Click on above image to go to IWS Eagle Forum ! There was a small, fuzzy eaglet, perched in a large nest at the top of a tree that the world came to love! When she fledged, she took our and best wishes for success, with her! We had a void - we could not see her everyday - we had occasional updates - we waited and wondered. What to do with ourselves - hmmmmmm! The "Cruzers" came together and made a commitment to help IWS and Dr. Sharpe, to the best of our ability, to help the bald eagles return home - The Channel Islands! We looked under couch cushions, on the floor of the cars, in the bottom of the washing machine, emptied our basement with a yard sale, ate virtual cupcakes from a virtual bake sale, and so much more - all for the bald eagle! We became part of the IWS effort! We also began to fine tune our nest observations and post important information in a way that the biologists could easily cull out - such as when the chicks ate, what they ate, how the parents cared for them, parent exchanges and incubation times. But the job is not finished - the eagles still struggle - the biologists work even harder! The all important cameras that make our helping the biologists possible - there are fuel, electricity, ink, paper, water, insurance, maintenance, computer, telephone, fax, staff payroll, taxes and so much more - all necessary to support the bald eagle recovery program! And that's where we come in - through the collective adoption of one nest at a time, the Cruzers have dedicated themselves to being part of that support system! Can you help in any way? Seeing the bald eagles move forward in their struggle to come home is a reward for a Cruzer but IWS has gone even further - for every nest adopted/every collective $1,000 contributed - they will distribute a series of items in a drawing to participants! Click on the "Chick Saying Thanks Photo" above to learn how you can help the eagles... check out the 2012 Nest Adoption Challenge Topic for specific info :soar:

Breaking News! The first egg has pipped and is in the process of hatching at Loch of Lowes! Last year Lady's eggs disappointingly didn't hatch despite later tests proving them to be fertile. At 27 years of age there's no telling how many more young Osprey the legendary Lady will produce, so this is exceptionally exciting news for all at Loch of Lowes and the Scottish Wildlife Trust. She has successfully fledged 48 out of 64 eggs laid in her 22 years on this nest. Their server is overloaded and I can't get back on at the moment. Lady and her Mate have been acting excited since yesterday when they seemed to be hearing the eggs. Live Webcam![]() ![]() |

Cruzers ![]() Victoria Day is a federal Canadian statutory holiday celebrated on the last Monday on or before May 24, in honour of both Queen Victoria's birthday and the current reigning Canadian sovereign's official birthday. It is sometimes informally considered as marking the beginning of the summer season in Canada. Victoria Day is also a mark of the beginning of the cottage season, the time when cottage owners reverse the winterization of their property. Gardeners in Canada will similarly regard Victoria Day as the beginning of spring, as it falls at a time when one can be fairly certain that frost will not return until the next autumn. The holiday has been observed since before Canada was formed, originally falling on the sovereign's actual birthday, and continues to be celebrated in various fashions across the country on the fixed date. Royal salutes (21-gun salutes) are fired in each provincial capital and in the national capital at noon on Victoria Day.

![]() Happy Victoria Day to all our Canadian Cruzers! The hatching is progressing on Loch of Lowes but Lady is going to have some dizzy chicklets the way she's rolling and aerating. She hardly takes a break from it and won't give up the nest to her mate who wants to do his part.

Hi and Happy Victoria Day. It's so unbelievably nice here that it is a topic of conversation around the neighbourhood. Usually it is rainy or cold on our first long weekend after the winter. We've been doing a lot of gardening. Now the mulch just has to be spread, and a few more impatiens plants to fill in here and there. Congratulations to Gary on his award. I really liked the wording on it. You must be planning on framing it. A cheque scanner sounds like a good idea, Deb. It will save you time every day. Well done on your promo and photos. I think when the Cruzers who took part look back on their lives the Santa Cruz hike will be one of their most memorable moments. Egg-citing news for the osprey nest, Kris! Will try to check in again later but for now it's back to the yard.

It's so awesome to me how in the moment these beautiful creatures are. Lady is totally consumed with her hatching chick. It melts my heart to see such focused devotion.
