Cable and Satellite are super expensive so about a year ago we got rid of Comcast cable (although we still use it for internet) and replaced it with these services:

1. Netflix: For $8/month you have some pretty good movie options
2. Amazon Prime: For $8/month you get some more movies as well as some TV shows (and a huge bonus, free shipping from amazon.com!)
3. Hulu Plus: the popular TV shows, just a day or so after they aired on TV

There were still a few things we didn't like though...

- No sports
- No local television
- Hulu is arguably not that useful (in our opinion)

So we recently added a 4th option and if it goes well, we're going to get rid of Hulu Plus:

4. Aereo.com: For $8/month you can stream local television channels

So for about $25/month we have everything we need (plus a ton of movies to stream).

I should mention one more thing...

We also purchased an AppleTV for $100. It's a small device that plugs into your regular TV and has various apps on it (like netflix, hulu, etc.). Since we also use iPhones there's a great feature where you can pull up Netflix on your phone, or Aereo TV on your phone, and then click a button which will send it to the AppleTV (and therefore throw it up on the big TV).

So now if there's a video we're watching on our phones or iPad, we click that button anytime we want to put it up on the main TV. That's how we watch these services as a family.

An alternative to the AppleTV is a Roku is is essentially the exact same thing but it's $20 cheaper. The only reason to buy an AppleTV is if you already use a lot of Apple products and want all your devices to play together easily.
