http://w11.zetaboards.com/Illustrious_Fleet/topic/7551009/1/ ^This is the draft for the constitution. We know how how the head of state and the executive will work, and have an approximate idea of how the judiciary will work. We do -not-, however, know how we'll make our legislative system work; will it be direct democracy for eligible citizens, or will we create a formal, smaller legislative body that members must be elected to. Any input or ideas for this would be appreciated; a good system would be one that we could begin operating almost immediately but would be flexible enough to continue operating normally in the event that we become much, much larger. |

I have always been one for Direct Democracy, as in one region that had gone on for many years, it worked well. Not all regions use it, and for that it isn't always the samething found everywhere else. The downside, lack of elections, which usually creates activity, but that is temporary at best. |

I would certainly say, in this stage of the region's development, that a direct democracy would be best. It's a system that can work with small or large groups, and having a representative democracy can limit the effectiveness of the legislative as a whole. |

And of course Direct Democracy will be perfectly operable no matter how large we are, because the number of people in the legislative will always be proportionate to the number of people in the region. Sounds like a done deal. |

Also, "The Union Legislative" and "The Judiciary" are kind of lame names, so if we can get better names then it would be sweet. |

Pending the public reading the posts in the court, I would suggest that it's proceedure be codified into the constitution. (Or at least the bare bones of it, allowing other parts to be subject to legislation without constitutional ammendment.) |
