I'm going to go with: Maybe the universe can show a little mercy after all. I thought this one was okay. The writing/translation was laborious, but the style was interesting. It just kind of fizzled out at the end. I'm guessing the idea of her dying at the same time her son was shot was a little more "out there" back then, and maybe amounted to a surprise ending even. Also, I think my lack of historical context hampered me here a bit. I'd kind of sorted out what was going on by the end, but at first I didn't quite understand why heads were going to roll, etc. I know nothing about the French Revolution. I'm happy that the woman didn't have to go through the death of her son, since she had nobody else. |
