My first thought was:

The fact that Edgar (the dog) lived in a supply closet proves that Edgar (the man) is to blame for it all.

But I'm curious, so I'll go with:

I wonder if he ever got lucky?

Hahaha....wondered that myself, but I was more worried about whether the new Gerbil got lucky....to live that is.
