Somewhere in space, just over an hour after the launch of Progress VI The third stage of Progress VI floated in orbit of Mundus, with the first and second stages having detached earlier. Progress VI was a one-off, specially designed for the orbital rendezvous between it and Rokkenjima's Soluna IX. Cosmonaut Sevastian Romanov was at the controls, with three other cosmonauts, Isay Pudovkin, Taurus Mikhailov and Mørel Kozlov also on board Progress VI. The view was spectacular. With Mundus to the right and the moon to the left, with the infinite expanse of space everywhere else, the cosmonauts gazed in sheer awe at their surroundings. They felt incredibly privileged to be in this position, knowing that they probably wouldn't get an opportunity like this again. The occasion was made all the more special by the fact that they were about to participate in a first for humanity - the first orbital rendezvous between two spacecraft from different countries. Suddenly, Sevastian noticed another floating object in orbit of Mundus similar to the third stage of a rocket, which had just appeared from behind the planet. Though the nose was glistening in the sun, slightly obscuring his vision, Sevastian was sure it was the Rokkenjimans. "That must be Soluna," he said, "let's try and make contact." First of all, Isay contacted Mission Control. "Quinntropolis," he said, "we have established visual contact with Soluna IX and are now attempting to make vocal contact. Over." They soon got a reply from Mission Control saying "Roger. Message received." Next, all four gathered round Sevastian's radio, upon which he was about to contact Soluna. Sevastian took a small pause before pressing the button. He spoke with gravity. "This is Cosmonaut Sevastian Romanov of Progress VI, calling Soluna IX. Soluna, come in. Over." The four cosmonauts eagerly awaited a reply. OOC: Whilst it is only Beatrice and I that are actually involved in the rendezvous, those of you that are not are free to either report it in your news services or post congratulatory communiqués or similar from your Ministry of Foreign Affairs or otherwise in this thread. |

Space, approximetly over the Southern Sea of Kyne "And there is Rokkenjima in the distance, we can see Tytor to her West," Kiana said to her camera. "It is interesting to see our world from what some would consider the viewpoint of Islyna. Now, if we take a look from this window," she continued as she changed the aim of her camera, "you'll notice a spacecraft, the Progress IV, which will shortly be docking with Soluna IX later today." Kiana turned the camera off and sighed, "Why I was chosen as some sort of narrator escapes me, you both know I'm camera shy." The other two astronauts, Clara Meyers and Petra Lindberg laughed before returning their attention to the mission at hand. "Pyrettania, visual contact with Progress VI has been confirmed, as well as vocal transmissions received. We'll be answering their communications and proceed with the mission as scheduled, over." "Received and acknowledged, proceed as you will," came the simple reply. "Well then, let's not keep them waiting!" Petra said with joyful excitement. Clara took to the radio and replied, "Astronaut Clara Meyers, Commander for Soluna IX, we hear you loud and clear. I, and our crew, look forward to greeting you personally, over." Kiana turned her attention to her camera for a moment, "The first interactions between two nations in space, rooted in friendship, cooperation and mutual progress; let these not be the first precedents we set as our mission continues!" |

Aboard Progress VI The four cosmonauts listened as the Rokkenjiman message came through. "Get the camera out," said Sevastian, "we should capture this moment for the history books." As per the instructions, Isay passed the video camera to Sevastian, who turned it on. The feed it showed was immediately patched through to both Mission Control, and then subsequently broadcast on all major Quinntopian channels, especially the news channels. In the meantime, Mørel Kozlov took photographs of the various views from the cockpit, with a specific focus on the views of Mundus and Soluna IX. "Hello, everyone. You are about to witness the first ever orbital meeting of two spacecraft from separate nations. The craft you see in front of us is Soluna IX, which contains the Rokkenjiman astronauts we shall soon be meeting. Aboard this craft, Progress VI, are Cosmonauts Isay Pudovkin, Taurus Mikhailov and Mørel Kozlov and I, Sevastian Romanov." Sevastian pointed the camera to the corresponding cosmonauts as he said each name. Sevastian needed to reply to the Rokkenjiman message, so he handed the camera over to Taurus. Sevastian then began his reply. "This is Cosmonaut Sevastian Romanov again. It's good to hear that communications aren't a problem. We are reading you loud and clear. Isay, Taurus, Mørel and I are also looking forward to meeting you. Oh, and remember to bring a camera if you have one. We need to make sure that this rendezvous doesn't become another footnote in the annals of history - by broadcasting it we can make sure this event stands the test of time. Over." After finishing his message, Sevastian turned to the camera, saying "There you are. It's not long to go now before our two craft are docked and niceties are exchanged. I'd just like to see the view of Mundus which we're admiring from up here." Taurus pointed the camera towards Mundus. Sevastian pointed to an area of land, adding "Do you see where I'm pointing? Well, that's Quinntopia, with Quinntopia Bay right next to it. You should also be able to see where our neighbours are. Just to the north is the Sea of Kyne, and after that, Cotf Aranye and the Great Northern Sea." Taurus moved the camera to show the various things that Sevastian was mentioning. "And we're getting that magnificent in a small spacecraft orbiting Mundus," stated Sevastian, "we're going to keep the camera running so you can see the docking of Progress VI and Soluna IX. Prøliska!*" *Prøliska = Goodbye Edited by Matthew Vinage, 23rd January 2014 - 06:05 PM.
