The Rt. Hon.
So I've been thinking about starting an organization that brings together elected officials, civil servants and experts from republican countries to learn from each other. It could include working through problems together, and offering advice. As well as perhaps emergency relief and such.

Anyone interested?

Im from the United States (It's not a democracy! - Its a Republic, just read some history) and love to put my politics to use. I want to run for Senate one day, but until then I will just be a responsible voter.

Who else wants to participate?

Not really, seeing as a republic is defined as a state without a monarch. Sorry :ermm:

If there aren't enough republics though I may change it to democratic states.

Oh Sorry... What I meant was I live in a republic in real life, and my country on NS is also a republic, and that I am interested. I can totally get off track when making posts.

Like I said in the Royal Alliance thread, I think we should scrap both ideas in favor of a forum for representative democracies. Considering that there are apparently few republics and the real divide in the region is between democratic and authoritarian countries.

Republics and (constitutional) monarchies ARE democracies. The 'It's a republic, not a democracy!' argument is quite simply wrong, they can be both. of course, there are some issues with pretty much every democratic system, but the idea that democratic nations don't exist just because the IO is made up of monarchies and republics is false.

Not to mention that "democracies" can only exist in NS.

They have democratic processes, yes. I'm talking a real, through and through democracy. Switzerland is a hybrid democracy (representative and direct democracy), not a republic, if what I have researched on it is correct. They can have a sort of blend of both, but they aren't always both. There is a difference between representative democracy and republicanism. I don't mean to start debate I'm sorry.

Switzerland is a republic, but does have elements of direct democracy. 'Real, through and through democracy' can never exist. You will ALWAYS need to designate people in an executive and legislature with power, that is representative democracy. Republicanism is just a form of representative democracy. A republic is generally a democracy that has a President (chosen by the people) as its head of state.

Okay so I'm embarrassed because apparently yes a republic is just a form of representative democracy with an elected head of state (executive) and a heavy emphasis on the "rule of law" as well as it's anti monarchist themes. Please don't underestimate direct democracy. Let's be honest, what we do is choose who we hand all the power over to and simply hope they represent us properly. I'm going to venture and say we could do a hell of a lot better. I don't know how, but I think we could do it. As far as my country goes, delegative democracy is not representative democracy and therefor not a republic in any way so I'll just be an outsider hahahaha. I hope I didn't bother you guys too much.

Yes, in a Republic the power would/should never be in one person's hands.
