![]() From the Desk of the Secretary-General Concerning Present Hostilities Related to Themata As we find ourselves, yet again, faced with hostilities which are quickly spiraling into a global conflict I must urge restraint, patience and understanding from players on both sides of this crisis. We must remember the initial event which brought this chain of reactions into play, an assassination attempt on the Empress of Rokkenjima and a hectic response to said attempt. That mismanaged response allowed several atrocities ongoing in Themata to see the light of day, binding international will behind a world where the current Thematan regime is brought to justice. Thus far, the Warsaw Alliance have claimed their duty to defend their ally, which would be expected of any military alliance. As the Coexistence Conference ended on the note of war I would urge both the CSTO and Warsaw Alliance to bridge their differences and work towards a peaceful solution. Chairman Stalin has promoted such a plan which I feel could be a basis for a future, internationally approved resolution to the conflict. I encourage the Empress to explore this option and to work alongside Stalin in preventing the outbreak of a global war. Let us not disregard the treaty obligations of both parties in this conflict and work through the Covenant to solve it. While I had wished to focus the efforts of this Covenant on matters such as poverty reduction, debt relief, eradication of hunger, and other humanitarian issues those shall have to wait, as the burden of maintaining peace must be upheld. I am willing to listen to the concerns of both the CSTO and Warsaw Alliance, and if my services may be offered in mediation concerning the plan proposed by Chairman Stalin I am available. I must stress that any plan must be approved by the Covenant of Nations, as this situation has become much more than a matter left between individual states and alliances; it has been, disappointingly, allowed to grow into an issue which impacts the whole of the world. I await your calls, and hope we can preserve peace in our times. Evanthe Anselmo Secretary-General Covenant of Nations |
