 Nation Mourns Passing of High Priestess  This morning it was announced that High Priestess Helena Cordone passed away at the age of 96. For the last 62 years she had been the custodian of the nations faith ensuring the Gods were honoured. She collapsed late last night and despite being rushed to Northfort hospital was pronounced dead at 1am this morning. The High Priestess grew up in the mountain town of Silverlake where she was the youngest daughter of a family of cheese makers. At the age of 18 she commenced her national service and was assessed to be competent to train to be a Priestess. She began her religious service as Junior Custodian of the Shrine of Esthmore but within 3 months her knowledge of religious texts and kind nature saw her in command of this prestigious shrine. For the next 6 years she studied at the Royal Temple under the tuition of the then High Priestess Cullen who said Cordone possessed a remarkable nature of being able to explain scripture. Upon completing her studies and being invested as a Priestess she was appointed to serve the Goddess of Beatrice. Over the next few years she rose through the religious heirachy before finally in 1952 being appointed the nations High Priestess. During her time she crowned 3 monarchs of our nation. King David III released the following statement shortly after the announcement of her passing. "High Priestess Cordone was the true mother of our Nation, she provided great guidance to all of us in our times of need and has been a constant voice of wisdom in my time as King. I will miss her and I would like to pass on my condolences on behalf of the Nation to her family." It is thought that the High Priestesses successor will be named within the next week by the Religious Council. Until that time all ceremonial duties will be conducted by the Kings sister Princess Joanna. |

This morning King David III attended the departure of the East Moreland team for the Independent Order Games. In a short ceremony over seen by the temporary High Priestess Princess Joanna a national flag was blessed and presented by the King to the captain of the East Moreland team, show jumper Elliot Gouldmann. The King then mingled amongst the athletes and posed for photographs with many of them. In a brief interview with the Northfort News the King said that he was "Quietly optimistic of winning a few medals." and that he would "be glued to his TV cheering on all my athletes". With several days of intense competition ahead I'm sure King David III won't be the only East Morelander glued to the TV. We asked Elliot Gouldmann about the medal prospects in the East Moreland team. "We have some tremendous young athletes, with our isolationism coming to an end its an ideal chance for them to now test themselves on an international level. I personally can't wait to get out there and experience the atmosphere in Kazarovia." Minister of Sport, Kelly Urqhart was also at the ceremony and will be accompanying the team. "Its an amazing event to be part of. I know our athletes will do us proud, this is an opportunity for East Moreland to make a great impression on the global stage and I know our boys and girls will enjoy the experience of the games." The King remained at the airport until all the athletes had left and the returned to the Palace for a high level meeting about the future of the High Priestess position in East Moreland. We expect an announcement on that tomorrow evening. |

Today the new Religious Council announced the Kingdoms new High Priestess. In a shock announcement the position has been given to Princess Joanna. She becomes only the second Royal to hold this position. A spokesman from the religious council told us "The Princess was an obvious choice, the people respect her without question, she has proven during her time as a Priestess that she has an outstanding relationship with both the Gods and the People."  Princess Joanna attending her inauguration. During the ceremony the Princess took the traditional oath to uphold the Gods above all things and to ensure that the correct traditions and ceremonies were undertaken. At the end of the inauguration she blessed her brother King David III sword and then mingled with the crowd dispensing the blessings of the Gods to the people of Northfort. When asked what she intends to do as High Priestess she said "It is my intention to tour all the shrines and temples of East Moreland, inspect them and make sure that they are upholding our customs. In this modern times it is my duty to remind our people of their duty to our Gods." In her role as Priestess the Princess had decided to maintain the use of the name Joanna. In Sports news the East Moreland team at the Independent Order Games, have got off to a slow start. Day 1 saw action in the pool and with no real medal prospects it came as no surprise that most finals were devoid of East Moreland participation. The highlight of the day came with Sam Freiland's swim in the 200 meter butterfly where he finished 6th in a time of 1.54.89 which is a new East Moreland record. After his record breaking swim Sam said "I thought I could maybe have found another half second, but the guys around me where just so fast. Its been an amazing experience being here and our participation can only kick start more youngsters back home taking up this sport." Tomorrow see's the conclusion of the swimming programme with the Weightlifting to follow in 2 days time. Most East Moreland sports fans are looking forward to Day 7 when the Kingdoms first medal hopefuls take part in the fencing. This afternoon East Moreland Aircraft Constructions (EMAC) unveiled their latest development the EMAC SuperLift. This project has been 5 years in development and should provide the nation with an ability to transport heavy payloads to the most remote areas of the Kingdom. The airship design allows up to 200 tonnes to be lifted in a single sortie and this can be landed on virtually an flat surface. It is also thought the military watched the test with interested, General Vakas of the Red Legion said "We can see some potential for this in areas where we control the sky, it can stay airborne for days, not hours giving us complete overwatch of an area, we can also use it to help relay communications in the valleys of the Alps. We see great potential in this design." Environment Minister Professor Jacobs pointed out the environmental impacts this new design could have. "a traditional C-130 can carry 20 tonnes but produce about three times as much pollution as this does lifting 200 tonnes, it may be slower but for non urgent payloads this is going to be the future I believe." Further tests will be carried out over the coming weeks but EMAC spokesman Henry Rothes believes that the SuperLift could be operational with the military within the next 12 months. There was unexpected success today in the pool for the Womens Freestyle relay team. Team EM won the nations first medal in the Independent Order Games with a silver by the impressive team. Swimming was an event that the nation had not expected to fare well in but tonight our four young ladies are celebrating there success.  Kelly Sanderson(20), Shannon Lee (19) and sisters Daisy (17) and Melissa (22) Greechan finished in a time of 7:47.56. They were beaten into Silver by the team from Eipa Negara. Elpidia finished he podium coming in for the Bronze. Speaking to us after the medal ceremony Melissa Greechan talked of her hopes for the future of this team. "We're all young and hopefully have many more championships ahead of us, we'll only get stronger, next time we're aiming for the Gold." Daisy Greechan anchored the team with an impressive final leg. "I got out the pool exhausted" she told us "but you know as an athlete you may only get one shot at this, you've just got to go for it." Minister of Sport Kelly Urqhart was in attendance and proudly watched the team collect their medal. "This is incredible, we sat down and drew up some targets before we got here, never in our wildest dreams did we expect a medal here in the pool. What these ladies have achieved is very impressive and I hope youngsters sat watching in home want to follow in their footsteps. Tomorrow see's Mens Weightlifting where Joseph Orelans hopes to make a big impression. The Silverdale resident is a local farmer and hopes to break his own East Moreland record. We hope this is enough to see him grab another medal. |

Today at the Independent Games Joseph Orelans clinched Silver and came with a hairs width of taking Gold. In a fantastic display in the weightlifting he equalled the East Moreland record for the 105kg category lifting a combined total of 414kg with the two styles of life. He was beaten into second place by the athlete from the USR who also lifted 414kg but by being just a few pounds lighter took the Gold on the body weight rule.  "I'm thrilled" said Joseph, "I never expected to do so well, I expected the next lift to be the one that finished off my legs and back, but somehow they just kept going." The 30 year old farmer from Silverdale collected the second silver of the games for East Moreland after the womens freestyle relay team collected silver yesterday. Joseph was watched on by his brother Thomas who competes for East Moreland in the Javelin event. "I'm always joking with him that he should go on a diet, maybe if he'd listened" joked Thomas, "Seriously though I couldn't be prouder of my younger brother, he came out he and got the job done, just puts the pressure on me now." |

It was a dismal day for East Moreland at the Independent Order Games today. Expected to do well in the fencing events Team EM managed to secure a single silver. In the Foil category Elicia Bennett handled herself well but just narrowly missed out on the Gold. "To get a medal at this level of competition is a thrill but we're a nation who prides ourselves on swordsmanship, a silver isn't good enough. I'd like to apologise to the people back home."  Elicia in her gold medal match  Elicia Bennett had been a raising star of the East Moreland fencing circuit, taking the East Moreland University championship for the last two years. Fencing team manager Lord Edward Dawson was also in glum mood "As a medal haul for fencing this is unacceptable and I am embarrassed that we didn't secure more gold's. Fencing is part of our nations heritage. I think the problem is though you look back home, people are taking their swords as more of a fashion accessory or piece of decoration. Last year I attended 20 sword ceremonies and only one had a usable sword, and that was Elicia. I think we maybe need to get back to basics. Shortly after 9am yesterday morning two terrorist missiles struck the town of Freestone. The first missile struck an office building showering a local school with debris. Shortly after the second missile exploded in the local park. Search and rescue teams are still sifting through the rubble but do not expect to find anyone else alive. So far the death toll has been confirmed as 92 dead and around 400 injured. The attack was timed to take place during the end of the rush hour as businesses around the centre would have been packed with commuters and workers. Around 20 people are still classed as being in critical condition. Dr. Sullivan from the Freestone Hospital was proud of his staffs response. "Within minutes of the attack we had declared a major emergency and brought in all our off duty staff, many of them turned up even before we made the phone calls. Several of our ambulance crews became caught up in rubble collapses and risked their lives trying to pull people out of the rubble. As the head of this hospital I must say how proud I am of our staff's response." However supplies of medical equipment began to run low and had to be flown in by the military who sent teams of medics and engineers to support their civilian colleagues. Within minutes of the attack King David took to TV and radio to send a message to his people. In it her urged the nation not to fear these terrorists and to try and carry on life as normal. He further reassured people that the military were taking measures to prevent further attacks. As we went to press last night we had reports from Freestone and various other towns and cities of anti-missile batteries being moved into position by the military. King David further praised the courage of many of the people caught up in the attack. One of the fatalities was 22 year old school teacher Melissa Gunning. Her classroom had been showered with debris as it faced the street where the missile struck. As the classroom crumbled around her she rescued 16 of her students from the rubble before being crushed by a falling piece of masonry. In his speech King David paid respect to her bravery and urged the public to remember her and not give in to the terror. Meanwhile the Cultural Exchange Treaty and Conference are continuing as planned today. Sending a signal to the terrorists that East Moreland will not give in to this type of attack. However it was noticeable last night that a heighten military presence in the capital was in place. Athletes at the Independent Order Games also tried to carry on as normal today, however all were seen wearing black armbands to show respect for those killed. As Kelly Morrison took Bronze in the Shot Put she carried with her on the podium a photograph of her cousin Lucas who was injured in the attack. "After hearing the news many of us considered pulling out of our events, after all sport means nothing in the face of this. All the East Moreland team got together last night and discussed it, after hearing the King ask us to carry on as normal we thought we had to compete, we hope we can do our part in sending a message that terrorist won't destroy our country." It is sadly expected the death count will raise in the coming days. A government spokesman requested that citizens who are able to give blood do so at their local medical centre. |

The death toll from the Freestone terrorist attack has now risen to 95. Initially there had been 92 fatalities but it was confirmed this morning that 3 more casualties succumbed to their injuries overnight. A spokesman for the government however has warned the nation it should prepare itself for this number increasing to over 100 as the search and rescue operation turns into a recovery one. Around 30 people are still unaccounted for, specialist rescue teams and military units spent the night attempting to find any survivors in the rubble, at around 1am tapping noises were heard from amongst the rubble but 20 minutes later these had stopped. "Its been heartbreaking, to come so close to a miracle of pulling someone out alive only for it to be snatched away." John Henderson the engineer in charge of the operations informed us. "We have 30 or so families who are desperately praying that their loved ones will somehow be pulled from that rubble" Mayor of Freestone said as he surveyed the scene. "I know these people will not give up until we know the fate of everyone caught up in this tragedy" However the scene is one of devastation. "The response of the people has been incredible, our local hospitals have reports of people cuing up for hours to give blood, people have taken in those who have lost homes, last night we even had one amazing woman come down here with a giant plate of sandwiches for the rescue workers. If whoever did this thought it would break Freestone then its done the opposite." However it has been noted that as yet no Royal family member has visited Freestone, but both High Priestess Joanna and King David have donated blood to the medical services in Northfort and the Royal Residence in Freestone has been opened as a support centre for anyone effected by the tragedy. The nations missile defence system, known simply as EMMDS has been deployed to every major city. East Moreland to End Isolationism. It is widely expected that today will see an end to 120 years of East Moreland isolationism policies. King David III is thought to be keen for East Moreland to develop as a key player in the region. He has in the past been quoted as saying how he believes overseas oppurtunities will allow East Moreland and its citizens to grow and develop in more ways than isolationism would ever give. Currently the King is hosting delegations from around the region in an attempt to get an agreement on a Cultural Exchange Treaty that will promote education and preservation in the nations heritage. Meanwhile high level discussions have taken place with Dijel aimed at East Moreland joining the Confederation of Independent States. One palace insider informed us that it is thought that the King signed the CIS charter late last night and that all that is left to happen is for the nations entry to be confirmed. East Moreland won its second Gold medal of the Independent Order Games today, Nick Powell and Lewis Francis won the Mens 3metre synchronised diving earning Team EM their first Gold in the pool. The pair have only been competing together for 3 months after Nick's usual partner, Harry Grey, injured his neck during training. "Its been a hectic 3 months but ultimately worth it" Nick said as he grasped his gold medal.  "The chance to compete with Nick was one I couldn't pass up, the fact I've now got a Gold shows it was the right move for both of us" said Lewis. A military spokesman has confirmed that the East Moreland military have shut down an area of airspace to civilian air traffic of all nations. This is seen as a precaution against further terrorist attacks and also necessary to allow the military to freely operate in the airspace. This action is combined with the re-deployment of several Naval vessels into the Illumic Channel to increase naval patrols. In a statement sent to regional governments the Navy were keen to emphasise that this re-deployment was only for routine patrols of territorial water and that countries neighbouring the channel such as KaiserAdolf, and Elpidia should not be alarmed by the action as all precautions would be undertaken to unsure minimal disruption to vessels traversing territorial waters. Further hopes of finding survivors in the rubble of the building hit in Freestone disappeared today as a section of rubble collapsed narrowly missing search and rescue teams. "The operation will need to now proceed slower until we get more heavy lifting equipment, this may be a few days away" The first funerals will take place on Sunday at the Freestone High Temple, it is yet to be confirmed whether any member of government will be in attendance.

This morning a military spokesman confirmed that three arrests have been made after the terror attack on Freestone. While on routine patrols in the Alpine region Legionnaires from the Red and Blue Legions engaged Separatists in a short fire fight which saw 8 terrorists killed with one Blue Legionnaire receiving gun shot wounds to the legs. In the aftermath of the fire-fight three people were arrested after being found with recording equipment. It is thought that the three men are part of the Free Mundus Network which released a video of an interview with Separatist leader Kyle. The exact location of the arrest is being kept secret however the military spokesman confirmed that the site showed "evidence of a recent rocket launch" The three men have so far not given their names to the authorities and have been moved to Ostlake for further questioning. It is believed that they may be charged in connection with the attack if they do not provide assistance to the military.  One of the suspects being escorted from a military helicopter At the Independent Games Katie May took Bronze in the Womens Road Race, finishing just 2seconds behind the two riders from Tytor. In an amazing display of sprint finishing May was just edged out after the three riders managed to make an 18 second gap back to fourth place Achkaerin. Katie was thrilled with her Bronze which is her highest finish in an elite standard race. With tomorrow being the Volleyball and Rugby 7's we will be hoping for a medal opportunity. Team EM's rugby captain and Northfort Blues winger Tom Cooper said "The lads are up for it, we just need to keep our heads, make good decisions and then we know we can bring home a medal." The Honey Badgers, as the nations rugby team is known, are making their first international 7's appearance.  East Moreland today confirmed that the King has signed the Charter of the Confederation of Independent States along with a representative of Dijeli. It is thought our ambassador will be former Prime Minister Jacob Longe. This marks Mr.Longe's return to politics following his recovery from a long term illness 18 months ago. This appointment would seem to suggest that Mr.Longe may be King David III long term choice for Prime Minister after Lord Marcus Lund publically stated that he was considering some time away from the public glare. A Palace spokesman today informed us that the Kingdom will be looking to change its national motto. In 1967 at a drunken party Queen Phillipa I changed the nations motto to "Where is the beer and when do we get paid" the origin of this is still unknown. The Palace has drawn up a list of potential new sensible mottos, the public will be given an opportunity to choose one during the April elections for Executive Minister. This April's elections will also see a change as King David III announced that rather than electing just 6 EM's the country would now elect 18. The choice of mottos are :- 1. The funerals of 42 people killed in the recent Freestone Terrorist have taken place at the High Temple in the city.  The ceremony was presided over by Priestess of Grace Hannah Morecroft. The mayor of Freestone had installed a PA system in the Temple square to allow the city to participate in the rituals. "It was vital we did this, usually funerals are just family affairs, but this terrible incident effected the whole city, everyone knows someone who died or was injured. It rocked the very foundations of Freestone, life here will never be the same, but this large crowd shows we are united." There was also a shocking appearance of King David III, as mourners made their way past the coffins placing tokens of mourning the King was spotted in the lines. His attendance had been unannounced and he was keen to try and just blend in with the crowd. He placed a letter on each coffin. He did however make time to speak to the press after the funerals had concluded. "Today wasn't about me paying a visit to Freestone, it was about 42 families saying goodbye to their children, wives, husbands, sons, daughters and so on. If we'd told the media I was coming you'd have made the day all about me rather than these people." We spoke with the mother of Jane Coyle, one of the students who died when a roof collapsed. "I have mixed feelings about what the King did, he should have publically come and supported the grieving, but he is right that today should not have been a royal visit, it should have been about the loss of 42 amazing people." We asked if we could see the letter the King placed on her daughters coffin but Mrs.Coyle refused. In the afternoon the King visited the on-going work to recover the bodies still buried under the rubble. So far 7 students and one teacher from the Freestone High School are still unaccounted for. This includes 22 year old teacher Melissa Gunning who witnesses saw return into the building to rescue her class despite the building collapsing. Her actions saved 16 of her students. The King meet with rescue workers, school staff and students. "The bravery of Melissa Gunning is incredible, we have a fine tradition in East Moreland of public servants doing great things, but this is well beyond what anyone would ever expect, while everyone else was running out a building this women ran in, not just once, but time and again." The King was keen to praise the young teachers sacrifice. The King then continued. "I have spoken with Miss.Gunning's parents and they have allowed me to nominate her for The Order of Canley, I will ask the Elders of Canley to consider her induction at next months sitting." If the application is accepted it will make Melissa Gunning the first women to be admitted to the Order and also the youngest ever holder of the honour.  The King concluded his surprise visit to Freestone by visiting the hospital where many of the casualties where treated. The press were not present during his visit which lasted 3 hours. We later spoke to the parents of one child who is being treated. "The King made a point of speaking to all those being treated here and all the incredible medical staff that saved my sons life" It would seem that much of the criticism the King has received in recent days about not visiting Freestone has been answered after this low-key respectful visit. At the Independent Order Games today East Moreland's Zane Powell took Bronze in the 85kg category. After a hard fought bought against the athlete from Albanor, Powell won by 3 points giving him the Bronze.  The former Air Force engineer is now expected to turn professional upon his return to East Moreland and fight fans will be hoping for a future fight against East Moreland national champion Curtis Yates in the near future. |

East Moreland soldiers returned home today following their first military exercises with their new comrades in the Commonwealth of Independent States. The exercise took place in Verover and saw a collection of airmen and Legionaires taking part alongside troops from across the Region. On the first day of the exercise Legionairres from Black Legion's Parachute Regiment took part in a mass HALO jump alongside thousands of others. After that they linked up with ground forces from their Legion to march to a mock fire-fight. Shortly after members of Red Legion took part in a series of war games involving snipers and escape and evasion. As a nation that has always had emense pride in the Red Legion we are sure readers will be proud to hear that Red Legion troops were part of the winning side. As a result they were allowed to select supper for the whole exercise, introducing soldiers from the CIS to the East Moreland delicacy of Honey Badger steak. On the final days of the exercise Marines from the East Moreland Navy took part in a amphibious landing operation on an island off the coast of Verover.  As the soldiers returned home today they were in very positive moods. "To finally get to see our new colleagues in action was good, to get to know brothers in arms from across the world was a great experience. As a soldier you never stop learning and we managed to pick up a few tips and tricks from the guys." said Sergeant Grayman of the Red Legion. Meanwhile Black Legion commanding officer, General Rachel Yacobs said "We were very impressed with the set up of the CIS JSF. The atmosphere was very positive and I think everyone involved had a tough, but rewarding experience. The men and women of the East Moreland military gave a great account of themselves and we can be proud of their professionalism. I have no doubt that if called upon the CIS JSF can fulfil any task set before it and we intend East Moreland to be central to that success." It is widely expected in the next few weeks that East Moreland will begin closer military ties with other nations, maybe including deals for the provision of equipment and arms. In a recent poll carried out by the Northfort News 67% of East Moreland citizens say they are concerned about the current state of the monarchy. Many citizens are concerned about the short line of succession. After the recent appointment of Princess Joanna as High Priestess and the Commissioning of Princess Freya into the Blue Legion the current heir to the throne is Lord Prince James. Many citizens consider him unworthy to be a King after he failed the basic tests of his National Service and spent 18 months as a Medical Waste Auxillary.  It was a fantastic day for East Moreland today at the Independent Order Games. In the Equestrian events Team EM walked away with 3 Golds, 2 Suilvers and 2 Bronze medals. The first medal of the day came from Scott Robertson who took the Bronze in the Mens Showjumping riding his horse Campbell. Scott Robertson won his second medal of the day as part of the Mixed Showjumping Team who clinched the nations first Equestrian Gold. Along with James Henderson, Jamie Coupe and Abigail Sampson. "We're delighted with the performance of the team today, they all absolutely nailed their runs and you can't ask for more." said Captain Arthur Tate head of Team EM Riding. Soon after Katie Hollands took Silver in the womens Dressage in what will be her final competition for the East Moreland team. " I turned 50 a few weeks ago," said Katie , "and I can't think of a better way to end my career, its been amazing representing my country for 25 years, but I think its time these youngsters take on the reigns so to speak." In a fantastic career Katie Hollands has won 18 national championships and a host of competitions around the world. In the afternoon the success continued, William Rae took silver in the Men's Eventing narrowly beating countryman Joe Snowden into third for the Bronze. We spoke to them both after their competitions, "We train at the same stables, so to take two medals back there is great, hopefully it'll inspire the young children we have training there to keep competing hard." A few hours later the youngsters at the Northfort Eventing Club had even more reason to be inspired as the duo joined with Jessica Coyle and Robin Edmondson to take the Team Eventing Gold. The nations medal haul was rounded off by Holly James who managed to take Gold in the Women's Eventing riding Tiny Warrior. Sadly he had to hand her place in the team event over to Jessica Coyle and Epoch after Tiny Warrior pulled a muscle after the final event. "I was disappointed to not be able to ride for the team, but I cheered the guys on so loudly I'm surprised they didn't hear me back in Northfort, I'm thrilled Jess got a medal, she's trained so hard and it would have been so sad for her not to get a chance to ride here. It all worked out great." Team EM captain Elliot Gouldmann was expected to take Gold in the men's show jumping but after a fall in training yesterday he was declared medically unfit for competition suffering from a suspected concussion. He did however attend the competitions as a very vocal spectator. "I'm really proud to say I'm captain of these guys, clearly I'm upset at not being allowed to compete but nothing can dampen my mood, a lot of my friends made themselves sporting greats today and to know I've been a small part of that is great." He then went on to speak about Team EM's overall performance. "We've done OK, we're about on target for what we set ourselves as a team before we got here, we'd have hoped for more in the fencing but some good performances in other events have got us back on track. For the first time in the history of East Moreland has sent its Disaster Emergency Team (DET) outside the borders of the nation. At 7am this morning a team of 280 specialists boarded a airliner heading for Themata. They were accompanied by two EMAC Giant-C aircraft full of EM Disaster Shells, assorted medical equipment and food. The offer of support to the war torn nation was made by the King a few days ago and accepted by the Workers Unions of Themata. A government spokesman told us "this is a vital part of our responsibility to our regional neighbours, the people of Themata have been through a lot recently and if we can help alieviate their suffering even in a small way we have to do it." The DET was set up in 1965 following the Earthquake that struck Higham killing 421 people. The aim was to establish a state of the art rapid response team that would be specialist in search and rescue, medical care in remote regions and refugee management. Despite the aftermath of a war not being their usual theatre of operations it was felt they had all the skills and training to help. National service medical orderly Josh Poshkett said he was "nervous about going to a warzone but confident the CSTO troops would be able to keep us safe. I just hope we can make a difference." For the last two weeks the DET have been on exercise in Oakerham where as part of the exercise they built 28 of the inflatable EM Disaster Shells, one of which will now be used by a local youth club while another two become a local rugby teams changing rooms. This afternoon in a cowardly attack he Borland Separatists launched an attack on a hospital in Aldfield. It appears the aim of the attack was to carry out the murder of the King's Mother the Lady Helena, her body was found in a chair with a single gunshot wound to the head. This episode is just one more cowardly act by a bunch of fanatics who are clearly unsupported by the people. The attack began in the afternoon when an aircraft released a non lethal gas called BZ on the town. This incapacitated most of the population making it almost impossible for law enforcement and military personnel to respond. After the gas was released a group of around 40 Separatists entered the hospital area and initiated a fire fight with local legionnaires. This fire fight saw 8 Legionnaires killed and 7 Separatists. During this fire fight several of the terrorists entered the hospital and after a short exchange of fire inside a ward Lady Helena was opening a security agent and a terrorist died. It was after this fire fight that Lady Helena was executed by one of the Separatists. This shocking attack stunned the nation, however General Yacobs was quick to try and reassure the people of East Moreland. "We know the Separatists attacks are becoming more sophisticated but I can assure people that they should not be worried about further gas attacks, all canisters of the BZ gas have been accounted for and precautions taken." Meanwhile it is understood that supplies of gas masks have been sent to schools ready for distribution on Monday. Lady Helena was 71 years old and was the wife of King Sven. She was the mother of King David III and his sisters High Priestess Joanna and Freya , who we believe is currently serving as a Major in the Blue Legion.  Temple District during the Funeral Today saw Northfort grind to a halt as hundreds of thousands of people lined the streets to pay their final respects to the Lady Helena. The Kings mother was laid to rest in a traditional funeral ceremony in which the King gave evidence at the Shrine of Frossaj personally. This is the first time a serving monarch has given evidence proving the deceased followed the Code of Canley. The King was joined at the alter by his sisters the High Priestess Joanna and Freya who was recently promoted to Major in the Blue Legion. The three had followed the procession from the Palace on foot despite security concerns. Delegations from several of East Morelands neighbours attend the funeral making them the first overseas governments to attend a state funeral. The funeral pyre burnt for several hours as well wishers passed throwing flowers into the flames as a sign of respect. Prime Minister Lord Marcus Lund spoke to press after the event "The King is keen for life to try and get back to normal as quickly as possible and will be returning to State duties tomorrow. He believes anything else would be giving into the terrorists who murdered a dear old woman who has been a honourable servant to our nation" For the second time during the Independent Order Games East Moreland athletes wore black armbands to remember victims of terror attacks. Despite turmoil back home our athletes had a fantastic closing few days of the games. Sarah Macauley took Gold in the Taekwondo while her training partner Melissa Stubbins came 3rd after an impressive showing in her Bronze medal match. Meanwhile on the final day of competition our track athletes did fantastically well winning 4 Golds, 4 Silver and 2 Bronze medals. Luke Hyatt claimed a Silver in the Men's 200meters before taking Bronze in the 100meter final he rounded off his medal haul by anchoring the mens 4x100meter team to Gold. The other Golds where claimed by Sophie Whitehouse in the 10,000 meters and Jane Fairhead in the Womens 100meter Hurdles. After the final day of competition East Moreland had won 10 Gold, 9 Silver and 9 Bronze, a haul well above the targets they'd set prior to heading for the games. Minister of Sport Kelly Urqhart was overjoyed with the teams performance. "Taking into account the situation back home the men and women of Team EM have done the nation proud. We'd set ourselves the target of 12 medals before the games started, with at least 4 Golds, to get 28 medals and 10 of them Gold is amazing. We'd like to thank Kazarovia for being amazing hosts, I know this games will live on in the memory of all our athletes for the rest of their lives." The team are due to fly back on Friday, their departure was delayed by the Home Office to allow them to be given a formal reception back home. A Home Office spokesman told us "The King was keen to welcome the athletes back , we felt with the funeral today it was not appropriate for this to happen. The King knows how hard the athletes have worked and wants to give them a homecoming they deserve. There will be a reception on Saturday for all the athletes at the palace."  Daisy Greechan at the closing ceremony 17 year old Daisy Greechan was the teams youngest medallist , taking a silver in the swimming. "This few weeks are going to be a memory I never forget. Its been a whirlwind, I'm sad its over, on Monday I'll be back at school but I'll still be smiling, I'll always have my silver. I've made great friends here to, the athletes village has been like a family, after every tragedy the athletes from all the other nations were amazing." |

 East Moreland athletes arrived back in Northfort today after their heroic efforts at the Independent Order Games. Large crowds gathered to line the streets as open top buses took the athletes to the square outside Northfort palace. There a large stage had been set up for speeches and musical performances. The team where welcomed back to East Moreland by King David III who gave a speech in which he commented on the achievements of his athletes. "Over the last few weeks we've seen incredible performances from the men and women of the East Moreland sporting community, I hope these performances inspire the next generation to take up a sport and aspire to be not on great champions but also great ambassadors for our country." The athletes will attend a function at the Royal Palace this evening hosted by the King and his cousin James. Daisy Greechan who won a silver medal in the relay was one of the athletes who stood out for East Moreland, the 17 year old swimmer anchored the relay team and turned what was looking like a 4th place finish into a silver. The King had special words for her "What Daisy Greechan achieved was incredible, she showed that with determination and hard work you can do great things, at just 17 she has a great future infront of her and I look forward to seeing just how successful she can be in the future." he King was also asked about what event he had been most interested in. "Everyone which had one of Team EM competing." was his diplomatic reply, however our Palace sources tell us that the King is a keen fan of Equestrian and Fencing.  Daisy Greechan after she finished her incredible relay leg. Daisy Greechan was no doubt one of the stars of the games for East Moreland, another was track athlete Luke Hyatt who brought home three medals, one of each colour. "These games have been an incredible learning experience for me, I was so nervous when I started for the first heat of the 100meters but by the time of the final relay I was loving every second, the crowd where cheering everyone regardless of where they came from, it just shows how brilliant sport is for uniting our world." Nick Powell and Lewis Frances where the only noticeable absenties from the festivities, Freestone natives they headed back to their home city where despite the devestation still being repaired they received a heroes welcome. "I couldn't believe it" Nick Powell told us, "after everything our home city had gone through thousands of people still came out to see two guys who dive come home. It makes me very humble to think what we did in Kazarovia meant so much to people here in awful circumstances." The pair are thought to be the only two atheltes who will not be attending the function at the palace but will meet the king in a few days time. "We were gutted to miss the party at the palace but felt it far more important to come here first, to then get a private invitation to meet the King is great, we heard he was watching all the events but to find time to meet us shows how much the King looks out for his people." While the athletes headed to homes, hotels and friends to prepare for the function tonight the people of Northfort were treated to an open air concert. Some athletes where seen mingling with the crowd enjoying the atmosphere and being mobbed for photos that are now awash on social networks. One athlete who was noticeable amongst the crowd was Katie Hollands who won Silver in the Equestrian, the final act in a career that has spanned 25 years. "This is it" she told us "no more Games for me, at least not as the competitor, I just want to make the most of this, its sad in a way but getting to take part in an event like this is the best way I can think of ending a career." It is thought that Katie Hollands will enter politics as is widely expected to be appointed as a member of the Ministry of Sport in the near future. |

 "Welcome to the 10am news bulletin of East Moreland Television. Today we're bringing you live coverage of today's sitting of the Elders of Canley. For those joining us from overseas the Elders are a panel who make decisions as to which people can be honoured by joining the very prestigious Order of Canley. What makes today so special is the first nomination the Elders will hear today. Its unique for two reasons, first it will be the first time a reigning monarch has appeared before the Elders to nominate a candidate, second should the nomination be successful it will herald the first female entry into the Order. We now go over to the Chamber of Elders in the Temple of Canley."  "Who wishes to nominate a candidate to be judged by the Laws of Canley" Lord Peterson proclaimed. The cameras showed the King stand from amongst the members of the public, it was not uncommon for around 20 people to nominate at a sitting and it had taken Reynolds quiet a bit of persuasion to allow the King to be allowed to go first. Here his authority was no more than a normal citizen. "I wish to nominate a candidate for Canley" the King responded. "Advance to the centre table and identify yourself" Peterson found this unnecessary but tradition was tradition. "I am David Ironside" the title of King meant nothing here as all that mattered was a person's deeds not their birthrite. "I wish to nominate Melissa Gunning of Freestone to enter the Order of Canley." A few of the Elders shuffled uncomfortably. "Before we begin I must remind you that you will be afforded no special privelidge or any authority over these hearings Your Majesty." this wasn't normally part of the process but after all Peterson had no wish to offend the King who was after all his monarch. "I understand Lord Peterson and I wouldn't expect any." The King replied. "Very well David Ironside, the Elders are prepared to hear your nomination for Melissa Gunning. You may state your case." Lord Peterson picked up his pen ready to take notes. "Thank you Lord Peterson. Melissa Gunning is a candidate for posthumus inclusion, as you may be aware she died during the recent attack on Freestone. She was not a soldier, she was a teacher of young children. A woman who had dedicated her life to helping others gain an education so they could achieve great things. She served our country not just by teaching our children. She was a member of the local Disaster Emergency Team, working as a volunteer dog handler. During her national service she had taken part in many disaster relief actions helping countless others. On the day of the attacks she was teaching a lesson when the missile hit the building across the street. Her classroom wall collapsed and despite being the closest to the way to safety she returned to the rubble of the classroom, there while the building began to crumble around her she removed several of her students from the rubble. As survivors gathered outside she returned time after time to drag injured children from the rubble while she moved rubble to rescue each child the building was falling around her. In total she rescued 16 of her class. Even though the building was in a state of collapse she returned one final time, during this time the roof gave in trapping her. She was found a day later, her bravery had not just been limited to entering the building time and time again. When her body was recovered she was found in a position which indicated that even as the roof collapsed she tried to save a child's life by shielding them from the stone. I believe Melissa Gunning is a fine example of the way any East Morelander should follow the Laws of Canley and this is why I wish her to become a member of the Order. I thank you for hearing my case." "We will consider our decisions" Lord Peterson said The camera kept switching between the King and the Elders who had now gathered around their table discussing the matter. The King shifted uneasily at the centre table. It usually only took a few moments to decide as a single descenting voice meant the nomination was thrown out. Lord Peterson returned to his chair. "On this day we will induct Melissa Gunning into the Order of Canley, her bravery is deserving of this honour and we are sure the Gods are watching over her. We thank David Ironside for bringing this case to us. However we wish to make a statement to the nominator." The King looked unnerved. This was not usual. "While the Order of Canley wishes to affirm its love and loyalty for Your Majesty we feel we should take this opportunity to remind you of your oath of Coronation as we feel in recent months you have failed to be the example to the nation that Canley deserves. I will remind you of that oath. First you must defend the people of the nation, second you must be the father of the nation , third you must honour the Gods, fourth you must protect those who can not protect themselves and finally , and this is the issue we have, you must bring honour to our nation. We feel you are isolating yourself in the Palace and losing the support of the people. You must address this. You are dismissed." The King was shocked but he had kind of felt he was beginning to lose the unwavering support of the people in recent weeks. Lord Peterson then broke with protocol and approached the King, this was not usually done. He knelt before the King, "I humbly beg the King's forgiveness but as Lead Elder I must protect Canley above all and I those things needed to be said." The King paused for a moment before leaning down and lifting Lord Peterson to his feet. "Here I bow to you, not the other way round" The King said as he bowed to Lord Peterson. "There is no offense to forgive. I thank you for hearing my case." The King turned and left. The cameras went back to the studio. "Well today was a remarkable hearing in many ways. Please join us for tonights news at 9pm" |

Today a team of engineers from Ostlake National Institute of Technological Innovation (ONITI) displayed the car that they hope will soon break the land speed record. The team have been working on the HoneyBadger SuperSonic Car (SSC) for 18 months. The team is made up of engineers and designers from across a range of disciplines. One of the lead developers in East Moreland Aircraft Company (EMAC) who are developing the jet engine which is to be used. Around 50 of the students at ONITI are involved in the project. CEO of EMAC Alan Maybury spoke to us about the project "This project may not have any real world applications, I mean no-ones going to be cruising around Northfort or Ostlake in one of these things, projects like this though are essential to the aerospace and automobile industries, it gives us the freedom to experiment without the constraints of a military or business brief, the only thing holding us back is the laws of physics." The car is expected to be built within the next 6 months and then undergo testing somewhere yet to be confirmed. "We're on the hunt for a good test site, it has to be flat, around 10km in length, we're scouting a few in East Moreland but wouldn't rule out an international site." Maybury told us. The car is due to be driven by Wing Commander Jules of the Royal East Moreland Air Force. "I'm looking forward to this challenge, I've flown EMAC aircraft for years as a Air Force pilot but this is going to be very exciting." The Dean of ONITI Karen Smith was keen to point out the benefits of the car development for the institute. "This will increase the international profile of our establishment, we're always on the look out for bright young creative innovators, I'd be expecting a few more applications from around the region on the back of this. It's great to see so many of our students getting the chance to hopefully break a world record."  Today King David III will visit the historical site of God's Forge in Portworth. The site is due to be registered with the new Cultural Exchange Treaty Organisation and it is thought that the Kings visit has been planned to coincide with CETO first meeting to help promote the sites application. The site is , according to legend the place where the weapons used by the Gods were made during the time of humans creation. Over the last 20 years the site has been found to contain a number of important historical finds, these have included a variety of ancient swords, some thought to pre-date the life of King Robert I. Last year archaelogists working there discovered a series of side caves which contained various workshops and small mining areas. The King will be given a private tour by Portworth Historical Institute and then meet with students at the Portworth University. "Welcome to an EMTV news exclusive. Today for the first time in history we have an interview with the King himself. We would like to thank His Majesty for giving up his valuable time. We head over now to the studio where Head Politics Reporter Giles Lukic is joined by the King." The camera fades up showing the two men sat opposite each other with a lower table between them. "Thank you. Your Majesty its a pleasure to have you on our show, I believe before we start the interview you wish to make an announcement." Giles had been briefed by Alex Redfern prior to the King arriving at the studio. It was time to let the world know what was going in. "Yes, thank you Giles." The King turned to look directly into the camera. "People of East Moreland, for the last few days we've been keeping an anti-terrorist operation secret, but now as rumours begin to spread on the internet its time to confirm these rumours. Several days ago the nation of Safraen fell, it effectively ceased to exist. As most citizens will know our investigations into the missile attack where centred their. In an attempt to secure intelligence and ensure we learn the where abouts of any more Borland weapons we dispatched an air crew and small squad of soldiers to Safraen. As people will appreciate because of the vast distance to be covered it was essential we kept this operation as quiet as possible for as long as possible to ensure the safety of the people involved. We have been in regular radio contact with them and all is proceeding well. We'll keep the media notified of proceedings." Giles had been informed he may ask one question about the operation. "This is incredible news, are we to assume that we are operating in Safraen alone, without their permission? Surely this could be called an invasion?" "At present we have only a squad inside Safraen, I'd hardly call that an invasion. Yes we entered the country covertly without international backing and without legal permission, however seeing as the Safraen government has disintegrated there was no one to ask. As for operating alone I am not at liberty to talk about operations being carried out there by our neighbours, I would find it highly unlikely that Safraen's more immediate neighbours are not investigating what is happening." "Very well, now if we turn our attention to domestic matters, it's safe to say that recent reports in the media have indicated Your Majesty is not enjoying the wide spread support once guaranteed to the monarch, what are your thoughts on that?" Giles asked "Its true, I handled some of the recent events in our nation poorly, and for that I can only apologise to the people who I am supposed to watch over. I have failed you, but I assure you that this will not happen again. I think the humiliation of the Council of Canley and speaking to the people of Freestone have shown me that the way I have been acting has been self centred and not befitting a King." "That's a very frank answer. Your Father was very keen to see the nation end its isolationism , upon your coronation you said you would follow this, how do you think your doing so far?" "Well we've had some successes there I feel, first we helped establish the Cultural Exchange Treaty Organisation which is holding its initial meeting any day now, if I can I would like to pass on our best wishes for all attending that. We became members of the Joint Emergency Team which I believe will be an organisation that will do great good. Our athletes did amazingly well in the Independent Order Games and we've become a member of the CIS. I think we can safely say we are now members of the international community." "Speaking of international links do you feel though that we give a poor impression of what is going on here. Most international media here concentrates on the Borland incidents and the issues of the Royal family, a recent Tytor web forum described our nation as split. How do you intend to tackle this?" "I was shocked when this was brought to my attention, we're not split in the slightest, the Borlanders number in the hundreds in a nation with a population of 50million. Removing the two recent attacks we've had peace for decades, the streets here are safe. We clearly need to show the world that Kyle Barren is nothing more than a crazy loner with a twisted view of history." "Strong words, ok final question Your Majesty. Your sister Freya is in military service, Joanna is High Priestess, that leaves your cousin James as heir for the time being. At 34 your the oldest unmarried monarch we've ever had, are you not concerned for the bloodline?" The King laughed, "I'm 34 not 50. We have two members of the succession, Freya's military service lasts another 3 months and then she'll be heir should anything happen to me, failing that we have James. I'm confident nothings happening to me anytime soon so I have no worries about the bloodline. Yes I'm unmarried but won't be forever." Giles seized upon this final sentence "So your saying you'll marry soon?" "Sorry Giles, you said last question." The King sat back in his chair. "On the cryptic final answer I'd like to thank the King for joining me and hope you'll stay tuned for tonights news broadcast. Good night." The cameras cut back to the newsroom. The King extended his hand to Giles, "Thanks for that, I have a feeling you went easy on me though. I hope we can do this again sometime." Giles shook the Kings hand, "Anytime you wish Your Majesty, I'm sure you'll always boost my ratings." |

Last night East Moreland Head Coach announced the starting line up for East Moreland's first game in the Confederations Cup. The game will take place this weekend in Verover with a large number of East Moreland fans attending the game. Head Coach The Lord Sir Clive Windwood announced the team saying "This lads have worked tremendously hard in training and impressed every single one of the coaching staff and their peers with their attitude. The King has on several occasions been seen in the company of Miss Matilda Osman the 25 year old daughter of Lord Lucas Osman the owner of Osman Biomedical Research. Miss Osman is a junior researcher at Portworth Zoological Institute where she works as a marine researcher. She is nine years younger than the King and thought to be a strange choice of companion for the King as she is well known to be less than traditional. She did not attended one of the Royal Universities, is not a carrier of the sword and is known to have been heavily involved in student politics. This would make her very different to other consorts of monarchs in the past who have all been educated at the nations more reputed establishments and publically embraced Canley. After the Kings visit to the Portworth area on Monday the King was spotted eating with Miss Osman in a restaurant known as Mulligans. We spoke to one of the other diners. "The two of them seemed very friendly, we didn't recognise the King at first, we thought they were just a happy couple out for the evening." This dinner date follows the King being spotted dancing with Miss Osman at the celebration held at the palace for the return of the athletes from the Independent Order Games. The cameras switched the Kings office at the Palace. "People of East Moreland I speak to you today to urge you not to be worried by the remarks of a mad man. In the past they have hurt us with cowardly attacks but they have played their best hand and we now know what they have. You can sleep safe knowing that we are prepared for the worst and that the Borlanders can not and will not win. Over the last month or so they have tried to strike at the very heart of our nation, they murdered children, pensioners, even my other mother, and guess what? They achieved nothing. Our resolve to face them and beat them has only hardened. Our desire to ensure that no harm befalls the people of my land has grown larger. Everything that can be done to keep you safe is being done. I will not abdicate, I will not hand the crown over to a man who is willing to murder the people he wishes to govern. The Borlanders are cowards, my public appearances are well known, are well reported, yet they choose to not attack me, the person they hold responsible, instead they choose to strike civilians, the children of a school in Freestone, defended only by heroic teachers. In my three years of rule I have never failed to be amazed by the love and support I have received from the public, I am confident that will continue. Meanwhile Kyle has nothing, he lives in caves, running like a vermin from one hiding place to the next.  Jason Robertson crosses the line in Verover. Verover 20 - East Moreland 20 (AET Verover 23- East Moreland 20) In a close fought game in Verover the Honey Badgers managed a normal time draw but lost to a quick penalty in extra time. The game started well when Richard Mountain picked up a lose ball insde the Verover 22 meter line, beat his man then off loaded to Rory Overwood who side stepped his opposite number before diving over the line. Rob Andrewson converted with ease but soon after Verover fought back levelling the score. Just after half time Verover took the lead but we're pegged back by a fine kick and chase by Jason Robertson, the ball bounced kindly and he was left unopposed to run in the Honey Badgers 2nd try of the game. Again Andrewson converted this easy opportunity. For the remainder of the game the two teams traded penalties with both kickers converting every opportunity. The game finished with the sides tied so 20minutes of extra time was played in which Verover scored a penalty giving them an over all victory. Around 15,000 fans made the trip to Verover, King David III was amongst the crowd accompanied by a group of friends including Matilda Osman who some media outlets are commenting as being romantically linked to the King. Throughout the game the East Moreland pack was rampant controlling their own line out with ease. Captain Lawrence Dallyaggio was proud of his teams performance "Well we got some points of the board and at times stamped our authority on the game, I think we need to work on getting the ball to our backs quicker to make the most of people like Jason's unbelievable pace. Overall despite the result I'm pleased with how the day went, we'll take the positives into our next game." |

(OOC - Sorry for the flurry of posts on this but because of a LOA wanted to get this all done before Tuesday.) "We interrupt this broadcast to bring breaking news. Moments ago Prince James was escorted out of the royal palace under armed guard. This would seem to support the claims made on the internet that the aircraft carrying King David back from Verover has crashed in the Alps, possibly because of a Borland terrorist action. If this is true it means that James will become regent until a time when the King's safety is secured. This action is taken whenever the monarch is incapacitated, however the last time a regent was appointed was in 1901 when King John I was taken ill on a state visit outside the Kingdom. Rumours on the Free Mundus Network indicate that the Borlanders are claiming to have struck the Kings aircraft with a shoulder launched SAM. We will bring you updates as and when we get them. In the meantime I'm sure you will join us in praying for the safe return of our King." |

"Four hours ago the Borland Separatists released a video claiming to show the corpse of His Majesty King David III. We have within the last 30 minutes received the following statement from the Royal Palace." The video of Prince James began, he was sat behind a desk that clearly wasn't at the Northfort Palace. "It is with great regret that we confirm the death of our beloved King , my cousin , David III. He was executed on the order of Kyle Barren. We now ask the Borlanders to show some slight compassion and return his corpse to be given a proper burial according to our traditions. In these turbulent days it is necessary for us to secure the future of our nation. As a result I have taken control as regent, pending the return of Freya from Safraen where she was serving with the Blue Legion. I promise the Gods I will return power to her upon her safe return to the Kingdom. In the meantime I must make some hard decisions to keep the Kingdom safe from the Borlanders. As we have evidence that these weapons have come from outside East Moreland we will for the time being be closing our borders to all foreign trade and travel except by diplomats. We see this measure lasting no more then 72hours. Furthermore all military leave is cancelled and all members of the armed forces are to report to their home base within 12 hours. There will be four days of national mourning during which all schools and public buildings will be closed. Finally we will begin investigations into the involvement of members of the Kings security detail in the involvement of the assassination. I hope you will join me in prayers for our fallen King and I hope I can count on your support." The cameras' cut back to the studio. "To summarise the measures being taken. 1. "The time is 10am and welcome to your mid morning news update. The headlines, a major cabinet reshuffle is underway under the Regency of Prince James, arrangements made to honour the life of King David , and an update on the Safraen situation. Moments ago the Prime Minister Lord Marcus Lund handed in his resignation to the Regent stating that the death of the King had shaken him emotionally and he felt no longer able to carry out his duties. His successor has already been announced by the Prince Regent. William Gladmann will take over Lord Lund's duties with immediate effect, at the age of 24 Prime Minister Gladmann will be the youngest Prime Minister East Moreland have ever had. Youth seems to be the theme of the new Cabinet too. We have been told that the Prince Regent sacked the whole cabinet for failing to stop the King's assassination. Their replacements have already been announced. Lord Henry Martin is replaced as Senior Overwatcher of the Royal Courts by Curtis Mason, a 23 year old military lawyer in the Green Legion. Kate Greechan is replaced as foreign minister by Oliver Renshaw a 25 year old who was actually born outside East Moreland and until today worked for EMAC as an export negotiator. The Minister of Justice is now Jack Hobson who completed his national service just two weeks ago with the Ministry of Cultural affairs. Perhaps the most shocking of the sackings was Minister for Culture and Tradition Henrietta Quinn, hailed as one of the chief architects of the Cultural Exchange Treaty Organisation she is replaced by Graham Sanderson who is a 26 year old museum curator. An update of all the other positions can be found on our website. In further developments it has been announced that a memorial service for the life of King David will take place on Saturday at the Temple District in Northfort, it is not yet known whether this will be presided over by High Priestess Joanna. Foreign dignitaries will be invited to attend however as yet none have confirmed attendance, in fact it has been noted that many nations have yet to acknowledge the death of the King. It is widely thought that the Regency are attempting to recover the Kings body to allow for a proper funeral. Yet have been keen to urge that this is highly unlikely. Meanwhile the family of Matilda Osman have made themselves unavailable for comment following the announcement of her death. They have asked the press for privacy at this difficult time. Finally the Ossarian CIDC have yet to lift the quarantine on Safraen meaning that Princess Freya who was operational there with Blue Legion is yet to return to East Moreland. The Regency have said "We are taking every safe measure to get Princess Freya returned to East Moreland as she is the legitimate heir but as her Blue Legion service does not end for two months she would still not be in position to be coroneted. "Today the body of King David III has been recovered from the Northern Wilderness, several hours ago a team of Black Legionnaires returned the Kings body to Ostlake." The camera faded from the news presenter and showed the body being loaded into the vehicle which carried it away to a lab on the base. The camera crew was allowed to follow for a while. "Once the body was returned to Ostlake a forensic examination was carried out which confirmed it was the body of the King using DNA analysis. As well as the King's body being recovered the Black Legion team also recovered the royal ring which appeared to have been placed in the pyre with the King." The camera showed a government press official holding up the ring to the camera. "It was announced that the body will not have the traditional lying in state because of the extreme damage to the body. It is not certain how the ceremony for funeral will take place as the body being cremated once will make the religious rituals ineffective. Prince Regent James has asked the nation to pray for the Gods to accept his cousins soul despite the rituals not being performed." "Connected to this story is the apparent kidnapping of Matilda Osman who is currently being held to ransom, however this is unconfirmed as the Borlanders are yet to produce evidence of this. Also inked to this story is the recent kidnapping of Princess Joanna by Borland sympathiser Andrew Thomas formerly of Red Legion. He was last seen leaving the Northfort Temple District with the High Priestess, his current whereabouts are unknown and Police ask people to be vigilant.  For the last few days the people of East Moreland have leaving floral tributes outside the palace of Northfort following the news almost a week ago that the King was murdered by Borland terrorists. The outpouring of grief was intensified in recent days after the Kings body was recovered from a site within the Alps. The body had been badly desecrated making religious rituals impossible. In total an estimated 80,000 people have left tributes outside the royal palace in Northfort with similar scenes being seen at Temple's throughout the Kingdom and at the Royal Summer House in Ostlake. Following the assassination relationships with our CIS allies has cooled as many of these nations seem determined to undermine the Prince Regent. Prince James will hold this position for 2 months until his cousin Freya's service to Blue Legion is complete at which point the crown will be offered to her. The Princesses exact whereabouts are a closely guarded secret following the kidnapping of her sister the High Priestess Joanna. This kidnap was carried out by a former Red Legion Sergeant under authorisation from Alex Redfern. A source close to military command in Ostlake has indicated that Alex Redfern is currently in Achkaerin where he is being given asylum. As a consequence the Regent has stopped military co-operation with their forces in Safraen. A memorial service for the King will take place on Sunday, the exact format of the service is unknown due to the consequences of the Kings bodies treatment. It is unknown whether foreign dignitaries will be attending as a strict close border policy remains in place. One exception to this will be the Ndambia rugby team who are thought to arrive in Northfort today for the Confederation Cup game on Saturday. Outbreak of hostilities in Ndambia has seen Queen Kangela lose control of some provinces of her Kingdom. The exact nature of this has yet to be established however the Kijiko people have proclaimed themselves to be a Federal state. As of yet no military action has been taken and the CIS are hopeful of working towards a peaceful solution.  The Honey Badgers name an unchanged side for tomorrows game with Ndambia at the King Robert Arena. After a draw with Verover last week the team are hopeful of going one better. "Its been a tough week what with everything happening, to stay focused has been extremely difficult. We may just be a sports team but hopefully a victory can make a few people smile and at least for a while forget about the troubles we face." said The Lord Sir Clive Windward. The team will wear black armbands and a minutes silence will be observed before the kick off. RED LEGION TREASON?  Red Legion HQ at Oldport Yesterday it was apparent that members of the military are not in full support of the Regency of Prince James. At midday the Northfort New was informed that Red Legion had locked down their HQ in the rural town of Oldport. The gates were locked and as of yet we have not been able to speak to Brigadier Kelly the commanding officer of Red Legion, however at 3pm a notice to the media was pinned to the gates. The notice outlined the reasons for the lockdown stating "Every member of this legion has taken an oath to serve the monarch of East Moreland. Upon the death of King David III our allegiance passes to the next in line of succession, we hereby pledge our allegiance to Queen Freya I. While we understand she may not take the throne until 19th June 2014 we will not serve the Regency until he begins arrangements for the smooth handover of power. We believe at this time the Regency is acting in a manner that will jeopardise the long term interests of East Moreland and we will be no part of that. We are fully willing to stand trial in front of Queen Freya I for our actions. Gods Save The Queen." This development comes as the Regent comes under increasing pressure from outside agencies and governments, this prompted the release of the following statement. "It is clear that as we have ended several centuries of isolationism and King David III began to shape us some influence on the global scene other nations have begun to feel threatened by our raising influence. Clearly this is all part of some plot to destabilise our nation and keep us weak. We can not allow these foreign influences to succed. It is therefore been communicated to the Achkaerin government that all their staff and military personel are to leave East Moreland within 48 hours. After such time anyone remaining will be considered a foreign spy." Interestingly the statement made no comment on the matter with Red Legion. |

 MEMORIAL SERVICE AT NORTHFORT TEMPLE The memorial service for King David III will be held at the central Temple in Northfort. What remains of the Kings body will be burnt to ash and offerings made to the Gods in the hope of his spirit being accepted into the afterlife. In the absence of High Priestess Joanna the ceremony will be presided over by Priestess Tianna. It is expected that no foreign dignitaries will be in attendance such is the disrespect being shown to the former King. Despite the former King supporting closer ties with other countries through trade and diplomacy it appears these nations have turned their backs on East Moreland now our King is dead.  After fears that the nation has been infiltrated by foreign agents measures have been taken to halt the malicious spreading of rumours against the government. Each newspaper and TV news channel are now brought under the scrutiny of the Royal Press Office, with copies of scripts and papers checked for foreign influence before being published. Kieran Addison the Regents Chief of Household read out the following statement. "It is a shame that the press have been taken in by these foreign lies. As a result it has become necessary for good public order to halt the dissemination of these horrid untruths. Sadly this control will continue until such a time as we can trust our neighbours to not attempt to turn the citizens of East Moreland against our country. As we are one of few nations to have a monarchy so trusted by the people many nations wish to change us, we can not allow this to happen."  The HoneyBadgers gave East Moreland something to cheer about as they defeated Ndambia 17-3 at King Robert Arena. A minutes silence was held before the game as a mark of respect for King David, sadly this wasn't repeated by our supposed CIS allies at their games. The game got of to a slow start with the Ndambia fly half slotting over a drop goal in the 28th minute for the only score of the first half. After half time it was like watching a different team as the East Morelanders played with pace and purpose. In the 50th minute Mike Brown recived the ball from a good inside scissors pass from William Greenward to go clear under the posts unopposed. The conversation was easily taken by Rob Andrewson. Following a gradual build up of pressure the Ndambia line broke again in the 67th minute as Danny Careful took a quick tap penalty and was held up just short of the line before managing to offload to substitute Dan Looger who touched down. Ever reliable with the boot Rob Andrewson added the conversation before rounding off the socring with a drop goal in the 76th minute to give the HoneyBadgers their first victory in the tournament and send them one point clear at the top. Next week the team travel to Ossario hoping to carry on this form. The game will however be heated due to the rumours emanating from Ossario about East Moreland government. |

A nation we once considered allies through our connections with the CIS has turned its back on us. In a recent media report the Ossario News Network was allowed to call Prince James a "jackass" and "scumbag". This is despite our nation never offering Ossario anything but friendship and support. Simply because this nation fails to understand the complexities of the East Moreland monarchy they feel they are free to condemn our nations leadership. Their hideous article further goes on to poke fun out our former King by claiming he is simply missing and my be found in a "Where's Waldo" book. While our nation grieves we would have expected support and understanding from our allies rather than ridicule and jokes. It is widely expected that the Prince Regent will order the Ossarian representatives in East Moreland to leave the country within the next 48hours. This follows the expulsion of Achkaerin diplomats recently after they spread malicious rumours about our former King's death. They also have been proven to be linked to the missile attack on Freestone after the weapon was identified as being of Achkaerin origin, this prompted many to believe that they are supporting the Borlanders in an attempt to weaken our nation and economy. In related news Princess Freya, who is currently proudly serving her nation in Safrean, has been isolated aboard REMNS King Robert following fears for her safety. While operating in the war-zone that is Safraen she was surrounded by soldiers from Achkaerin who have clearly shown that they can not be trusted. For her own safety she has been returned to the King Robert along with her close protection unit. Since then the King Robert has faced several incidents of Achkaerin helicopters flying close to the vessel clearly trying to provoke our forces. There is still no return date set for the Princess thanks to a plot by the Ossarian government to isolate our forces there through rumours of a virus outbreak. The Prince Regent is expected to speak on EMTV tonight about the issue. |

On tonight's broadcast we bring you a statement from His Highness Prince Regent James into regards to recent developments. "Dear citizens of East Moreland, thank you for joining me this evening. I wish to inform you of the current situation regarding the various issues effecting our nation. For 500 years we followed a path of isolation, it served us well, while the rest of Mundus tore itself apart with war, disputes and squabbles we did well. People had enough food, people had money and people had jobs. We defended ourselves from those who wished to take from us our lands and our homes. Our late King, may the Gods take him, ended that. He was an optimist, he looked out on Mundus and saw it as a great opportunity, as a great adventure. He wished to explore it, to share with the nations of the world the ambitions of East Moreland. He offered friendship to all, he offered students from around the world an opportunity to come and study our culture while sending students of our own off to experience the world denied to our ancestors. He befriended numerous nations by joining the CIS. How was this optimism rewarded, with trechory and dishonour. The nations of Achkaerin and Ossario have spoke out against us. Now in her recent Imperial Address the Empress Beatrice has denounced our lawful government, calling us liars. This is a woman and nation that we have never bore ill will against, who we have never so much as exchanged a harsh word. Yet she turns on us and suspends all relations with us. Well people of East Moreland that is fine, we were isolated for centuries and we prospered, we can live without the interference of this foreigners. In recent days Ossario, Achkarein, Elpidia and now Rokkenjima have all made statements against me personally, against the rightful regent of East Moreland. They claim I may even be involved in the assassination of my own dear cousin. Little do they understand our system of monarchy. This turns me to me beloved cousin Freya. While serving our nation and innocent people in danger honourably in Safraen our allies have turned upon her there. It has been necessary to remove her from the combat zone and place her on the safety of REMNS King Robert as we can not trust those we once fought alongside. While risking infection from disease to help those less fortunate she has also had to contend with the threat of a knife in the back from supposed allied forces. I can tell you tonight that the REMNS King Robert has been approached on numerous occasions by Achkarein helicopters and that these same people pulled weapons on unarmed East Moreland Marines who attempted to take an injured girl to safety. Finally nations call for their own investigators to be allowed to examine the Kings remains. We have publically published the investigation we carried out to confirm the Kings indentity. Yet this is no good enough for them. They expect us to compromise our religious beliefs, our customs and traditions in order to no doubt bare false witness against this government. They show a complete lack of respect to our nation, but that is no surprise. I call on the people of East Moreland to unite against this outside influences, to stand together as one nation and show the world that we will not allow ourselves to be humiliated by allowing foreigners to hack apart the body of our King. Show the world we will not tolerate them interfering in our affairs. I call on the people of East Moreland to boycott the goods and businesses of those who speak against us. I further call on a national day of unity. I want all citizens who are able to gather at their local temple, wear the colours of our nation and show these people we stand united. brought to you by the royal press office. MEMORIAL HELD FOR KING DAVID III Today a memorial service was held at the Central Temple for the late King David III. In many breaks with tradition the King's remains were not carried by Legionnaires from Red Legion. In recent days Red Legion have refused their orders acting in a treacherous manner unbecoming an East Moreland military member. Instead the King's remains were carried by Blue Legion, a unit that have proved their loyalty in recent days to a man. The King's remains were carried to the Temple and prayers said begging the Gods to accept the Kings soul into the afterlife. The ceremony was notable for the absence of any foreign dignitaries after their nations have turned their backs on us. The Temple District was packed with an estimated 150,000 people who had travelled from all over the Kingdom, many more lined the streets of Northfort watching on specially erected big screens. In cities across the country similar gatherings took place. The Prince Regent read a eulogy for the late King in which he spoke of how the King's hopes for an East Moreland that was a part of the wider world had been "betrayed." and that his cousin had been a man of "integrity, honour and devotion to his people and country". Prince James further went on to say that despite only being regent for two months that he hoped he could "provide half the leadership" that his cousin had. Princesses Freya and Joanna were absent from the memorial with Freya being in Safraen and Joanna still missing. When asked why the memorial did not take place once the two Princess could attend the Kings Chief of Household Mr.Kieran Addison said "We have already gone past the number of days accepted as correct for the cremation of a deceased remains, to hold off any further would have been disrespectful." The Kings remains where fully burnt in the Temple's pyre before being taken to the Palace at Northfort where his ashes were sprinkled onto the Royal Lake. While the memorial service was being held an unofficial memorial took place on Embassy Row, the street that see's many nations embassy buildings in Northfort. This memorial service was precided over by the brothers Tim and Greg Carpenter who lost family members in the attack on Freestone. For the last few days they have been leading protests against the various nations that have turned their backs on East Moreland. The Prince Regent called for these protests to "respect the sovernigty of the embassies" and reminded protestors that "while they had the right to free speech and freedom of protests" they should also "remember our nation has promised to keep diplomatic staff safe" and that any attack on embassy property or personel would "bring dishonour to East Moreland and its people." We tracked down the elder of the two brothers, Tim Carpenter and asked him why he and his brother were protesting. "Months ago our lives were turned upside down by the Borlanders. The only comfort we were given as a city was the King coming to pay his respects in person and the kindness he showed Freestone. While the rest of Mundus maintained their silence he was there for us. We came to Northfort to show that the people of East Moreland will not simply sit back and accept the lies foreign governments are saying about our country." We then asked whether he planned to step up the protests. "We have no intention of doing anything other than show foreign governments that the people of East Moreland will not accept their lies, for as long as they keep saying harmful things about our nation we'll be here showing them the people do not need or want them here." So far around 2,000 people have set up make shift camps at the Achkaerin, Rokkenjima, Ossario and Elpidian embassies. After the memorial service at the temple though many more people came to join the peaceful protests.

brought to you by the Royal Press office Protests Continue Outside Embassies  After a tense evening the protests on Embassy Street entered a second day. The protests have been largely peaceful except for an incident where two guards from the Elpidian Embassy attempted to disrupt the protest taking place outside of their embassy building. The protesters did not respond to this provocation save making a citizens arrest on the two guards to allow a police investigation. We are lead to believe that the two men operated on the orders of the Elpidian Ambassador and as such have since been released because of their diplomatic immunity. This immunity makes it impossible to charge an individual acting on instructions from a legally recognised ambassador. It is also believed that the Prince Regent has written to the two guards personally apologising for their length of detention by the crowd before the police could effect an arrest. While the guards where in custody of the crowd the leader of the protests, a young Freestone man called Tim Carpenter (pictured above) attempted to negotiate an out of court settlement with the embassy, this failed as the apology he wished for was not given. When asked about his talks with Ambassador Iveson , Tim Carpenter told us "I was grateful the Ambassador listened to what we had to say, clearly we disagreed on many things but it shows our protest is working. Our issues with the international community have been heard. Its just a shame the same old "their lying" to you rhetoric came out. They ask us to make a choice between trusting the evidence presented by our own government or trusting their governments, well so far the foreign governments have built no trust with the ordinary people of East Moreland, until I see , read or hear something to make me trust them more than my own government I'll keep backing the Regent." Today the Prince Regent announced that elections to the Executive will take place as planned with one exception. To make the Executive more representative the Regent has declared that it will double in size from 300 representatives to 600. Each region will now send 100 delegates who will sit in the Hall of Executives in Northfort. This is the first time in 200 years the size of the Executive has changed. In another change Executive Members (EM's) will be limited to serving a total of 15 years, or 3 full terms of five years. As a consequence around 70% of EM's will be for unable to run for re-election , this signals the largest change of EM's in the nations history. The Regent believes this will give younger less institutionalised people the opportunity to work for the betterment of East Moreland. The elections will take place in three weeks time, with the deadlines for nominations ending next Friday. The Honey Badgers remain unchanged for the third game in a row. Head Coach The Lord Sir Clive Winwood said "its great to have the stability to keep a team together, we've been injury free and no suspensions. The cohesion of the team is building game by game and I'm hopeful of another good performance." The HoneyBadgers currently sit at the top of the Confederations Cup table after a draw and a win. |

brought to you by the royal press office. FAMILIES CELEBRATE FEAST OF MELANOR  Today marked the Feast of Melanor. One of eight holy festivals held each year in East Moreland. The festival pays honour to the Goddess of Life. Services took place in the morning at Temples across the country followed by the traditional picnics, BBQ's and street parties held in local communities. One of the largest gatherings took place in The People's Park in Northfort. Around 70,000 people set up their own picnics and BBQ's. As is custom people prepared dishes for strangers, friends and family to sample and a carnival atmosphere was in evident throughout the Park. The Prince Regent was at the morning service at the Northfort Temple to Melanor breaking with the tradition of the royal family attending the service at the main Temple to the Goddess at Freestone. "I thought it was important to be in the capital at the moment, with the various protests taking place. Today though is a chance to celebrate the life we have been given, but also remember the lives that have been lost in recent times." The Temple at Freestone saw around 35,000 people in attendance in the grounds. As is traditional the Goddesses statue was taken on a tour of the town with this years route being planned to include the scene of the missile attack from several months ago. The route was lined by the cities citizens who had decorated their homes for the occasion. Soldiers in Safraen were treated to a special meal to celebrate the day. This included the traditional fruit cake that families in East Moreland tend to make for the day. With the exception of the meal operations there have proceeded as usual. Speaking to us via Skype Colonel Hollifield told us "These boys and girls have been operating on the edge for almost a month now, their missing home, their unsure of whats going to happen tomorrow as the political and military situation here changes. Today they can enjoy some home comforts and take some comfort knowing the people back home are thinking of them and supporting them."  As a gesture to our allies in Safraen cake was sent to the various forces also operating in the country. East Moreland 9 - Central Ossario 7  At King Robert Arena the East Moreland fly half Robert Andrewson put on a clinic of kicking. The young fly half ran the game from the No.10 position having a hand in everything positive the HoneyBadgers did. For much of the game his pin point kicking kept the pacey Ossario back line pegged into their own half. He was able to take advantage of the various errors committed by the visitors to slot over three penalties from three attempts. With the score standing 6-0 with twenty minutes to go, a careless pass between two forwards was intercepted by an Ossarian centre who ran the length of the pitch to score under the posts. With the conversation scored the Honey Badgers were chasing the game until with five minutes to go Andrewson nailed a 40 meter penalty to maintain the teams unbeaten streak. The Lord Sir Clive Windward was delighted with the teams performance. "The Ossarian's were a tricky team to break down and we had to rely on Rob's boot, luckily he kicks like a metronome and all his extra practice paid off. We're building some fantastic momentum now and are looking forward to every game." |

 Prince James stood before the camera. "People of East Moreland, I come before you to negotiate an end to these hostilities. I am currently at Ostlake. I have under my command thousands of people who realise that King David is not fit to be our monarch. The man wishes to destroy East Moreland, he wishes to force us into the control of others. You mark my words, had I not made this attempt to save our nation by now we would be so closely tied with the likes of Achkarein, Elpida , Ossario and all these other worthless nations you would not know where our beloved Kings will ended and where their control began. I gave us a last final hope, I would have kept us strong, I would have kept us independent, but many of you have turned your back on that. I wish no more bloodshed but I will do what I can to keep East Moreland strong. I therefore offer a peaceful solution. King David must withdraw East Moreland from the CIS, he must then create a Principality known simply as Royal Moreland, this will take control of Rockhampton and Roberton. He will name me its King. I swear my new nation will not attack East Moreland. This is my only offer, refuse it and my wrath will strike at Northfort. I have Cruise Missiles loaded and ready to fire. I will wait for David's response, he knows where to find me. You have two hours." |

Back on the air. Back Independent The channel regained its usual airwaves, they played a montage of the various photographs and film clips they'd gathered since the Regency began a few weeks ago. Then the camera's cut to the news anchor.  "Hi, welcome back to EMTV, I'm your host Fiona Jones and its great to be back on the air bringing you the most up to date and independent news in East Moreland. Tonight there is only one story that we can bring you. That is the successful arrest of the former Regent, Prince James. It is thought he is being held at Ostlake East where a fire fight amongst the last pocket of his supporters takes place. As far as we've been able to learn soldiers loyal to the King linked up with him in Roberton a few days ago and recorded the viral video proving he was still alive. At that point the Regent used his influence to turn Blue Legion against the true government and used them to try and keep his illegal grip on power. This lead to an assault by Red Legion on the palace at Northfort which saw the Regent escape to Ostlake where his last supporters made a stand against an assault lead by the Alpine Cadre of Black Legion. We also have unconfirmed reports of an Ackhaerin ship being moored in Ostlake providing support for the assault as well as Elpidian forces being amongst those who entered the base and made the arrest. We have been informed that the King is safe and well and plans to travel to Northfort tomorrow morning to begin the process of reforming a working government. The exact whereabouts of several members of King David's former cabinet are not known as it was assumed that many were arrested by the Regent after the leak from Lord Marcus Lund the former Prime Minister, a man who has since gone into hiding. We'll keep you up to date with all the news as we get it but for now, Have a good evening." |

NORTHFORT RETURNS TO NORMAL  After weeks of uncertaintly and unrest around the nation it appears the people of East Moreland have tried to return to normal following the news of the King's return. The Regency period ended yesterday as forces loyal to King David III assaulted Ostlake East where Prince James was holed up. The Royal Press Office has informed us that James was wounded in the operation but is alive and will stand trial in the coming months. Further arrests where made, these include around 400 members of Blue Legion who supported the Prince, around 700 criminals who were released by the Prince have been recaptured. The search continues for supporters of the Prince who were involved any of the violent responses to peaceful protests. The largest protest took place on Embassy Street in Northfort where around 3,500 people had been staging Nationalist protests outside the embassies of various nations, once word of the King's survival spread this protest switched its focus to the Royal Palace itself and an attempt by the people was made to retake the Palace. This ended in a bloodbath where around 300 people where killed and a further 600 wounded. Shortly after members of Red Legion arrived and a vicious two hours fire fight broke out during which we believe the Prince was wounded. This then saw the Prince flee to Ostlake where his attempted coup finally failed. Today though people have returned to their offices, the streets where again crowded with people going about their work. The Palace security fence was being repaired from where Red Legion had broke through the perimeter. Another company also began repairs to the Palace itself. A Palace spokesman told us; "Substantial bullet damage has occurred but nothing that can't be repaired. The Palace will look as good as new within a week, we are however more concerned for the welfare of the people who tried valiantly to reclaim the Palace. On behalf of his Majesty I would like to send thanks and best wishes to those involved." It is widely expected that the King will be back in the capital within the next 24hours. WHERE IS TIM CARPENTER  During the final days of the Regency a young protestor called Tim Carpenter rose to prominence. Many experts claim it was the way in which he focused national attention onto the need for East Moreland's people to stand together that ensure the capital didn't descend into violence earlier. The youngster, who is the eldest son of Red Legion hero Lt.Carpenter was last seen wearing his deceased father's Uniform jacket leading the charge against Blue Legion at the Palace. Witnesses tell us he had spoken with the Regent the day before and had been offered a position in the government and a Lordship in return for giving public support to the Regency. Instead he returned to the protest and the next day lead this heroic charge. Other witnesses told us that he was shot several times and dragged out of the firing line by a group of protestors. Since then we have been unable to locate the young man, however hospitals are still full of large numbers of seriously wounded. Red Legion established make shift field hospitals to attempt to treat the wounded. At time of going to press 287 protestors where killed with 642 wounded. It is thought this death count will raise in the next few days. Residents of Northfort are asked to donate blood and only attend hospital if absolutely essential. WHAT NEXT FOR EAST MORELAND The Royal Press Office has released a statement in which the King has called on the people to try and return to everyday affairs as soon as possible, he emphasised that "My cousin tried to change everything about our nation, he tried to fill the country with people concerned only with what they could get for themselves. We must show this did not work." The King also made several other announcements Elections should have taken place next Friday, however the King has announced these will not take place and registration for nominations will now be held open until the 14th of May with the election itself taking place on the 23rd. The laws passed by the Regent regarding term lengths and term limits have been abolished. On the ballot will also be a referendum on a constitution, the first in East Moreland's history. We have been informed that the King has been working on this for several months and has now moved its release forward. The contents are unknown but it is thought the constitution will allow a greater amount of political involvement for citizens. The King has also announced that the military will be re-organised, as of now only one official announcement has been made. Blue Legion is to be abolished, any Legionnaire who remained loyal will be given the option of honourable discharge or transfer into a different Legion. The future of the concept of people breaking the Code of Canley being able to redeem themselves through military service is likely to discontinue. Finally the King announced that one of his first duties will be to re-establish links with the outside world. |

Former Regent charged with four murders and 287 Manslaughters  Crowds lined the streets to see Prince James' prison van travel the short 2km distance from Northfort military prison to Northfort Crown Court. Angry crowds had gathered outside the court house itself and stones where thrown at the van as press photographers tried desperately to photograph the Prince. The Prince was permitted to remain seated during the short appearance to formally read the charges he is faced with. The Prince was shot while trying to flee Ostlake and his wounds were considered serious enough to prevent him from standing for even a short period. The Prince was dressed in a smart dark blue blazer and light slacks , ironically he wore a tie with the Coat of Arms of his cousin King David III, one of the three people he is accused of attempting to murder. The Prince seemed confused and tearful throughout the proceedings which was watched by a packed courthouse made up of the worlds media and intrigued locals. Once proceedings began the Prince was charged with several crimes. First he was charged with two counts of treason, with each carrying a life sentence, next he was charged with the four deaths of King David's security detail, each of these charges carrying a maximum of a life sentence. The Prince was also charged with the attempted murder of the King along with his rumoured girlfriend Matilda Osman and security agent William Brownly. Finally the Prince was charged with 287 manslaughters and 642 counts of aiding and abetting in an assault these all relating to the incidents at the Royal Palace in Northfort. It is widely expected these charges may change in the coming days as the death count raises. The Prince's legal team lead by the well respected lawyer Harry Sutton did not apply for bail based on it being in the best interests of the Prince to remain in custody for his own safety. Mr.Sutton did however oppose the trial as he believes the Prince will not be given a fair one in East Moreland. After the hearing was adjourned for discussions on how to proceed with the trial Mr.Sutton answered questions on the court steps. "It is my belief that no matter what method is used my client could not be guaranteed a fair trial because of the nature of the charges. I will be pushing for international involvement to attempt to give a fairer process, however I believe this may even cause problems." When pushed as to how he would like to see the trial proceed he answered "I don't honestly think it can , this was an event that's been reported around the world in such a way by foreign presses that I think unless we find a jury that's spent the last few months in a cave no jury could be classed as unbiased." The Prince is to be kept at the military prison in Northfort which has capacity for 200 convicted soldiers, however because of the number of Blue Legion arrests in recent days the prison is reaching capacity. Normally the prison is home to around 20 inmates sentenced by military tribunals. The longest serving being Green Legion's Lucas Manning who is serving a minimum of 20 years for selling military patrols schedules and locations to the Borland Separatists in 2003. CONFEDERATIONS CUP EAST MORELAND 11 - ACHKAERIN 6  The King Robert Arena hosted the latest round of the Confederations Cup. With East Moreland at the top of the table they were keen to carry on their recent run of good results despite the recent political turmoil. The game marks the first fixture since King David III regained the throne and it was widely thought he would attend the game, however in his absence his sister the High Priestess Joanna was introduced to the teams. Prior to this the East Moreland team had elected to allow the Achkaerin team take to the field ahead of them to receive a raptourous reception from both home and away fans. This follows the recent telegram sent by the King to the Emperor of Achkaerin indicating the Achkaerin government gave military support to the King during the troubles. However once the whistle blew the good will was out the window. The game started as a close knit affair with the teams almost cancelling each other out. It was a try by Martin Johnstone from a tapped line out that gave East Moreland a solid start, however Rob Andrewson missed the conversion which seemed easier to score than miss. The teams then traded penalty kicks for the rest of the match which saw East Moreland run out ahead, eventually winning the match 11-6. The tournament looks set for a thrilling finale with East Moreland in the driving seat. With one game remaining Dijel are the only team that can catch them and the two meet in the final game. A draw or victory would see the HoneyBadgers take the title. With the game due to take place in Northfort Sir Clyde Windwood has called on the supporters to make not just the stadium but the city of Northfort a sea of Red. "While we obviously look forward to welcoming our Dijel rugby guests we need to make their visit an uncomfortable and unrewarding one, the players will be doing everything they can to do that. The fans can play their part by making a tremendous atmosphere that inspires our boys to victory." |

RESTORATION OF NORTHFORT PALACE CONTINUES  Teams of historical restorers continued work on the damage caused to Northfort Palace today. The front of the Palace is riddeled with bullet holes from the attack by Red Legion in attempts to remove Blue Legion rebels from the Palace. Several ornate window frames also needed restoring. The King is keen for the restoration to be completed quickly before hosting guests at the upcoming conference of Safraen. The Palace is also due to host celebrations for the upcoming anniversary of King David III coronation as well as the Greenflowers Day celebrations commemorating the foundation of the Kingdom. Palace insiders have informed us that this year the King's Birthday honours list will be larger than normal with many of the key figures in combatting the recent coup being honoured.  Campaigns have begun in the lead up to the first ever constitutional referendum. The draft copy has been released and has been a hot topic of discussion in many of the coffee shops and bars in cities across the Kingdom. The referendum will take place on the 23rd of May and will be a simple Yes or No. If accepted the elections of the various Councils will take place a week later. Many people we spoke to approve of the new constitution as it creates, for the first time opportunities for the people to have a direct impact on the decisions of the government. It also creates an opportunity for the people to turn the nation into a Republic should confidence in the monarch be so low. After a recent poll around 72% of people are happy with the proposed draft. The King is still to appoint a new Cabinet effectively meaning he is running the country single handed. It is thought attempts to contact Lord Marcus Lund have as of yet been ineffective and that the King wishes to hold off appointing people until he has his Prime Minister in place. PRINCESS FREYA RETURNS TO EAST MORELAND  After taking refuge in Ossario during the recent coup against her brother Princess Freya has returned to East Moreland. Last night she spoke exclusively with the Northfort News. She told us how she felt "isolated and powerless to attempt to return earlier." Having originally been sentenced to six months in Blue Legion for being publically seen with the son of a convicted Brolander she was part of Operation Haystack which saw her parachute into Safraen with five comrades. Commissioned originally as a Captain in the Blue Legion she earned a reputation for being a sound military commander who set high standards for those under her command. Soon she was commissioned to Major and put in charge of Operation Haystack. The exact nature of what her team did during this Operation is still classified, however she did tell us that "it was interesting work and defiantly something I think this nation needed doing." As her brother went missing she was aided to escape Safraen by Ossarian and Ackharian forces for fear of attack by Regency supporters, an attack that never came as Black Legion based in Safraen remained fiercely loyal to the Kings orders. She told us that she was diagnosed with the Kaju virus as a ploy for isolating her in Ossarian facilities. "The virus was insane, we saw people commit horrid acts effected by it." however the Princess has been given a clean bill of health prior to returning home. She added "I'd like to thank the people of Ossario for their hospitality, it was the first time I've been there and I'd defiantly like to visit again under more relaxing circumstances. " As for her future we asked her if she planned to continue in the military, "I've been given an honourable discharge, as part of the dismantling of Blue Legion my term of service is done. Whether I continue in the military is a decision I need to think upon , and maybe discuss with my brother, lots of things have changed in recent weeks." It is not uncommon for Royals to enter and leave military service many times during their lives, however as the Princess currently stands as heir to the throne it is thought the King will not want her on front line duties. Rumours have been spreading that she will be given a role in the new cabinet, possibly as a Junior Armed Forces Minister or in a Foreign Office role, however the Princess said "I'm committed to serving East Moreland , my brother will have a big influence over what that is."  Rugby fever has hit Northfort the day before the final round of Confederation Cup games. After Head Coach The Lord Sir Clive Woodward called for fans to create a carnival atmosphere fans have made Saturday "Wear Red Day" with even the King promising to be wearing his shirt all day. Already an electric atmosphere has begun to build as East Moreland and Dijel fans mingled in the cafe's and bars of Northfort. Eight "fan-zones" have been set up around the capital where fans can watch the game on large outdoor screens. The 85,000 seater arena sold out weeks ago and tickets have been changing hands on the black market for around £EM 1,000. The match has been a great boost to the economy of Northfort too. Hotels are booked to capacity, bars seem to be heaving as fans mingle and trade songs, restaurant bookings are almost impossible to get. The Cup itself arrived in Northfort yesterday and was escorted in an open top car to the King Robert Arena where after the match it will be presented to the winners. East Moreland are clearly in the driving seat having so far gone unbeaten, should they avoid defeat they will be crowned the inaugural champions. The team have performed above expectations but Woodward expects one last push. "All week people have been asking me what I've been saying to get the lads focused on this game. In all honesty I've said nothing, why would I need to, these boys are elite atheletes at the top of their game. They've got one hand on one of the biggest prizes in their sport, if they need motivating then they need to question their choice of career." The team have trained lightly this week after the bruising game against Achkaerin. For the fifth game in a row the side remains unchanged.  OSTLAKE MILITARY GAMES SEE'S OVERSEAS VISITORS One of East Moreland's annual highlights takes place next month. Starting on the 4th of June the annual Ostlake Military Games begins. Teams representing the newly formed five legions, the air force, the Navy, Marines and Red Legion compete over a week in a variety of military and sporting events. This year however the CIS nations have been invited to send a contingent, so far the Dijel FDDF and Achkaerin have accepted the invitation. This year the event will also feature athletes from the military who represented East Moreland in the Independent Order Games. Despite being no pool swimming Daisy Greechan will represent the Navy in the Open Water swim. After winning a silver as part of the freestyle relay this will be her first swim at the 10km distance. Daisy is currently a Junior Seaman based at Portworth during her National Service, she has been serving as a Physical Training Instructor. "I'm looking forward to this, its something a bit different and the first big competition since the Games, I just hope I don't embarrass myself as most of the others have been doing these distances for years." For the last three years Black Legion have come out on top, however with the overseas contingents and the recent turmoil that may change this year. One of the highlights of the tournament is the gun run in which teams of six compete to first strip down a 19th century field gun, carry it over a series of obstacles before reassembling it and running it the length of the Arena. Traditionally the Navy have dominated this event.

TIM CARPENTER RELEASED FROM HOSPITAL  Two weeks after the brutal murders of almost 300 unarmed protestors the leader of the People's assault on Northfort Palace, Tim Carpenter, has been released from the cities Royal General Infirmary. After days of pro-East Moreland campaigning Carpenter spontaneously lead a charge of unarmed protestors against Blue Legion in an attempt to remove the Regent from power. Many people believe that it was this charge that lead to Red Legion leaving their locked down HQ in Oldfield and eventually launching an assault of their own that lead to the retaking of the Palace. Carpenter was shot five times, miraculously the rounds were not fatal. Two rounds shattered his left arm, another punctured his left lung , one penetrated his stomach and the final round hit him in the right leg narrowly missing his femoral artery. Carpenter was dragged from the scene of the shooting and given medical treatment which included receiving several pints of blood and a 8 hour operation to repair the damage. Upon leaving hospital Carpenter announced his support for the new constitution and said he planned on standing for election to the Representative Council if the new constitution is adopted. "I've always been interested in politics, the last few weeks have shown me that the younger generation of East Morelanders lack a voice in national government. Many of the former Councillors come from wealthy aristocratic families, they see a seat in the Council as almost a birth rite. I hope I can be one of a new generation of Councillors giving more people an honest voice." When asked in which seat he will stand and for which party he responded by saying "I'll stand for my home seat, Freestone Central, I think a Councillor should understand the people they wish to represent, I grew up there and I know a lot of the people in the community, as for which party, I'm not going to attach myself to any party. I think I should represent the will of the people, not the will of career politicians." In foreign news it would appear that Seaforth has a new King. Josiah I was crowned King yesterday and in his first address to his new nation and the world was keen to offer his nations friendship when he said "I wish to extend the hand of friendship to all nations." In the past East Moreland have not had many diplomatic links with the nation across the Illumic Channel, however King David III was quick to send his congratulations to the new King and offered Seaforth the opportunity to establish an embassy in Northfort. |

HISTORIANS EXCITED  Yesterday afternoon the Royal University of Northfort announced that a new tomb had been found on the outskirts of Keepton. The city was once a major military centre for East Moreland until the 14th Century. This new discovery has excited archaelogists and historians as it is suspected that it could be the tomb of King Paul the Explorer, officially known as Paul I. The tomb was discovered as a local farmer was ploughing his field and noticed a bright coloured stone was dislodged. He then noticed it seemed to have calligraphy on and contacted the local university. The staff there then sent a team to investigate and along with experts from the nations Cultural Exchange Treaty University in Northfort. After several weeks of excavation the possibility of it being Paul The Explorers was brought up. Paul and Kieron The Spineless (1437 -1439) are the only two East Moreland monarchs whose tombs are undiscovered. Traditionally only royals and aristocrats where buried in tombs with the remains of ordinary citizens being scattered on a site of personal importance. Therefore once the site was confirmed to be a tomb it would be clear the site would belong to a high status individual. Yesterday the walls of the tomb where uncovered and are thought to contain drawings and descriptions of far off lands from across Mundus. Paul gained his nickname "The Explorer" for undertaking many journeys across Alba Kinarya and other continents. One of the few artefacts we have of Paul is the King Paul Atlas, a series of hand drawn maps of many areas of the world, the maps thought to have been drawn by the King himself. A cremation urn has been uncovered along with many personal items buried in the tomb itself. These so far have included a pair of ornate boat oars, an early example of a compass and a ships chest, all indicating someone who travelled much, something that in the 12th century was almost unknown. It is hoped some fragment of DNA can be recovered , the University has announced that the King and Princess Freya have stated they will gladly give DNA samples to help ascertain whether the remains are that of Paul. This will not give a 100% accurate confirmation but will go along way towards identifying the tombs occupant. The timing of the find comes just days before the register of CETO is opened for sites of importance. Staff from the University are rushing to try and confirm the identity of the tomb in hopes of it making the list before next years conference, however this has become a race against time. It is also thought the tomb may be of interest to other CETO nations as stories of East Moreland's explorer King have him visiting many nations in Mundus prior to the nation isolating itself under the reign of Crispin I (1526 - 1561) |

REMNTS Trojan to enter Republic of Safraen service .jpg) Former Royal East Moreland Navy vessal Trojan is to be handed over to the new Republic of Safraen as part of a series of asset transfers announced by the King today. The Vessel was part of the East Moreland Navy between 1978 and 2005 when it was replaced by the REMNS King Robert. The vessel has since been run as a Training ship for the Navy allowing new recruits to learn how to handle large vessels and for Naval aircrews to practice seaborne operations. The vessel is still armed with its air defences and a variety of missile launches allowing it to be easily converted back into full time military service. Trojan was a state of the art Amphibious Warfare Ship, however with the development of new landing craft and battle techniques it has soon become outdated for current East Moreland needs. The King stated, "The Trojan has been a ship with a fine history in our nations service, while we have the King Robert our allies in the Safraen Republic have no Navy of note. We believe this transfer of a useful but underused military asset will help the Republic re-establish itself. Before its collapse Safraen was known to be technologically less advanced than many of its neighbours and the establishment of Trojan as a Naval asset of the Republic marks the first upgrade to their equipment from East Moreland. The King also announced that two EMAC SuperLift airships will be given to the Safraen Air Force. "This deal had been in the pipeline between EMAC and the Safraen government when the nations upheaval began, as the Republic is the direct successor of the former state we feel we are honour bound to fulfil this contract." The two airships will be equipped with long range survelliance equipment. The SuperLifts are capable of carrying 250tonnes aloft and to stay airborne for as long as five days. "These platforms will give the Republic the capability of monitoring large parts of their territory and increase the capabilities of their land forces." In other military related news the King has announced the enlargement of the REMN Base Illumic. With the Illumic Channel being the suspected landing point of smuggled Borland equipment the enlargement of the small training base there. The King made the annoucement at the same time as the Trojan was handed to the Republic of Safraen. "It is vital we don't let up on our responsibilities to keep our people safe from the Borland threat, just because their latest plot failed it does not mean they won't return. We must choke their supply of weapons and the Illumic has been a key entry port for them. We hope we can count of the support of our Illumic neighbours such as KaiserAdolf, Elpida and Seaforth to see this act as one of self protection. We reassure these nations we mean no threat to them, infact we would be more than willing to discuss shared and combined patrols in this region." It is expected a VSTOL Aircraft carrier, several destroyers and frigates and a fleet of patrol boats will be stationed at the enlarged base.

THREE ARRESTED IN BORLAND PLOT  During a morning raid on the coastal town of Runmeade three arrests where made of Borland Separatists. The three men are yet to be made but have been charged with a number of offences ranging from plotting acts of treason to handling illegal firearms. The dawn raid was carried out by teams from Red Legion acting on behalf of the Police force. No shots where fired and the arrests went "without a hitch" according to Chief Constable Lilley. In a statement released to the press the Chief Constable said "These arrests are just part of an ongoing attempt to disrupt the operations of the Borlanders. We believe the three men were just one link in a network that brought weapons in from the Illumic up to the Alps in the North. We suspect these may not be the only Borlanders operating in this area and we are following up leads created by this raid. We will not stop until we have ended the threat to the people of East Moreland." In a move related to the operation the Ministry of Defence has announced that REMNS Ostlake, REMNS Frederick The Wise and Robert The Second will join the standard patrols of the Illumic conducted by Ocean Class Patrol Ships. The move comes after the arrests seem to confirm the Illumic as a port of entry for Borland weapons. It is hoped that other nations in the Illumic, namely Elpidia, KaiserAdolf and Seaforth will not take objection to these patrols during a time when tensions in the Illumic are increasing. |

SHOCK APPOINTMENT FOR NEW PRIME MINISTER  The King today announced the new appointment of Prime Minister, the role will be filled by former military man Harry Samuelson. The move came as a complete surprise as Mr.Samuelson was not even a serving member of the council and has at times been very outspoken about the King's policies. The former Lt.Colonel of the 4th Household Guards commanded the Regiments snipers for 8 years earning himself the nickname Sureshot Samuelson. The new Prime Minister is the first Prime Minister of East Moreland to not come from a family with links to the nobility. Instead of the noble life it seemed he was destined for a life of a coal miner. Born in 1960 in the small town of Henfield just 10km south of Silverhills. Not academically gifted he failed his University entrance exams and as a result immediately began National Service, originally allocated to the Engineering branch of the Army he soon asked to transfer to Infantry as he found the mechanical side "Boring". He was quickly spotted to have a skill for shooting, between 1984-1992 he was unbeaten in all shooting disciplines at the Military Games, earning himself the nickname Sureshot. In addition to being a deadeye on the firing range he quickly displayed a talent for conducting sniper operations. During his time in the front line he has over 50 confirmed kills on Borlanders. In 2005 he reached the rank of Lt.Colonel and ran the Army Sniper School until his retirement from military service in 2008 due to being given a desk job. Since then he spent only 18 months as a Council Member before resigning siting a lack of respect for his fellow council members. In a speech given the day before he resigned his seat he refered to the Council as "a breeding ground for career politicians not worthy to lick the boots of half the real citizens of East Moreland." It is believed that the King has appointed Mr.Samuelson just days before the new constitution is introduced which states the new Prime Minister would need to be approved by the Representative Council , which in Mr.Samuelson's case would be unlikely. Mr.Samuelson's stance on policy is yet to be confirmed. He will be appearing on EMTV's breakfast show tomorrow to give his first interview. In international news our neighbours Kaiseradolf and Seaforth have effectively closed the Illumic Channel to shipping. This comes as a response to what King Josiah Rhodes has termed "CSTO Militarisation" of the Channel. East Moreland is currently torn between keeping good relations with its geographic neighbours while maintaining friendship with nations such as Elpidia who gave the nation support during the recent Regency crisis. The two Illumic nations have set up a naval checkpoint to stop and search all vessels , however REMNS Trojan and its escort passed through unimpaired after the Ministry of Defence announced its intentions to transverse the straits. The next test of our neighbours attitudes towards East Moreland's use of the Channel will come on Sunday as REMNS King Robert returns from Safraen. |

KING ANNOUNCES NEW CABINET It had been expected that the King would wait until after the elections to announce the new cabinet, however as international tensions rise over the Illumic the King has decieded to announce them before the Constitutional Referendum on the 20th. Some political commentators believe this is because the new constitution states all Cabinet appointments must receive the approval of the newly formed councils and these will not be elected until 1st June. By announcing the cabinet early the King avoids this, the role of Prime Minister was recently given to Harry Samuelson and it is believed that his appointment would not gain the necessary approval.  The most high profile appointment is clearly the Prime Minister Harry Samuelson. The former military man is expected to begin in the role tomorrow after his formal oath taking at the Palace. His first task may be to help straighten out the Illumic Channel issues between our neighbours and the CSTO. Many positions in the cabinet have been filled by those who were sacked by the Regent. Lord Henry Martin returns to his role as Senior Overwatcher of the Royal Courts. His first task will be to manage the referendum on the new constitution and then act upon its results to organise elections on the 1st June. The former lawyer is also expected to have a helping hand in the trial of Prince James. Professor Henrietta Quinn retains her role as Minister for Culture and Tradition, based largely on the success of helping establish CETO. Kate Greechan was offered her role as Foreign Minister but after a narrow escape from Safraen she has decieded to retire from politics after giving 25 years of service in the Foreign Office. The King paid tribute to her when he announced her successor. "Mrs.Greechan has been an invaluable servent to East Moreland. She has represented us with dignity all over the world and I will miss having her council. I wish her a very long and happy retirement." She will be replaced by Robert Kennedy. Mr.Kennedy has been a junior minister at the Foreign Office for two years after spending several years working for EMAC as an overseas advisor. A graduate of the Ostlake National Institute of Technology and Innovation he is 39 years of age.  Robert Kennedy the new Foreign Minister The new Minister of Justice is Jacob Savage. The 53 year old former human rights lawyer has spent the last 13 years working as a legal advisor at the Ministry and has argued in courts in many different countries. His first role will be to organise the prosecution for the trial of Prince James. He has also spoken about the dwindling numbers of East Moreland university students study law and aims to tackle this. One of the key issues he has also spoken about is looking for the extradition of Charles Hane who was suspected of supplying the Borlanders with weapons. As May 23rd looms preparations have begun for East Moreland's largest annual celebration. The Festival of Greenflowers marks the anniversary of the final battle between King Robert I and his brother Niall. The two armies meet on the Plains of Greenflowers, and despite being outnumbered and outmatched King Robert was carried to victory when the people, tired of Niall's repressive dictatorship, rose up against him. This citizen army was known as the People's Legion and arrived at the battlefield in their white peasants shirts, by the end of the battle the people we're covered in Blood and those fortunate enough to survive where renamed Red Legion. This years celebrations will carry added poignancy after many parallels with the recent Regency affair have been drawn by historians.  As is tradition the Royal Family will visit the Tomb of the People in Northfort at sunrise. A service will be held honouring all East Moreland soldiers who have died since records began in the 10th Century. Sadly this year 64 new names will be etched onto the Tomb honouring soldiers who have died in securing Safraen. After this service the public will be allowed to leave tokens of respect at the tomb. Meanwhile street parties will be held that last long into the following morning. The King will host an annual Greenflowers Ball for around 7,000 people at the Palace and at midnights a giant fireworks display will be released over the Palace and city. The day also marks the Kings 33rd birthday. As a result the usual King's Birthday Honours list will be revealed. It is expected to be a rather lengthy list this year after the performance of our athletes at the Independent Order and military actions against the Borlanders and in Safraen. Bookmakers have stopped taking bets of Harry Samuelson being knighted. The most obvious honour would seem to be heading in the direction of Alan Maybury CEO of East Moreland Aircraft Company after the business he runs posted record profits, helped establish the SSC HoneyBadger Porject and took a lead role in the new Technology City project. To mark the King's Birthday Red Legion will troop the Royal Battleflag through the streets of Northfort.  LASER WEAPON TO BE TESTED IN THE FIELD East Moreland Rifle Company have unveiled their latest project a laser rifle. While not quiet being in the same league as those seen in sci-fi classics such as Star Wars the weapon will enter military service early next year subject to satisfactory field testing. The weapon is a non-lethal "dazzle" weapon that transmits a low-intensity laser that has several uses. The primary use is to blind and disorientate an enemy, therefore rendering them less capable of resisting, the weapon is also reported to cause the targets to get an overwhelming feeling of heat on their skin and may have the ability to disrupt air operations. The weapon is described by EMRC CEO Bill Hardwick as being "able to offer our military, and maybe eventually Police, a non-lethal alternative to conventional firearms." The weapon is currently rather bulky and the MOD are likely to insist on its size being reduced before entering full service. A Minister of Defence spokesman told us "This will not replace conventional rifles, there are times when a soldier needs more than just firm words but doesn't need to start shooting, in between those two extremes he has very few options. This weapon is non-lethal and may just give our military another option before resorting to the ultimate course of action of firing live rounds." NEW CONSTITUTION GETS PUBLIC APPROVAL  Voting closed in the referendum for East Moreland's first ever constitution. Voter turn out was around 70% and of those voting 91% voted for accepting the constitution. Much of the constitution merely formalises the unwritten traditions of the nation and brings together various smaller Royal Laws into a national document which is clear to follow. As part of the constitutution the Inheritance of the Throne Act was also passed. This act clearly outlines the rules for inheriting the throne and in a change with tradition the throne will now pass to the monarch and consorts eldest child regardless of gender. The Inheritance Act also establishes that no-one may inherit the throne until they reach the age of 21 and must be a follower of the Cult of Helus. The constitution changes the structure and rights of the two Councils forming them into a more simplified but extended system. From now on the Representative Council will be made up of 500 Councillors chosen by democratic elections. This increases the number of RC's by 200. The Representative Council will also select a representative to sit on the Cabinet, this new position will be called the Chief Councillor. The new Representative Council will also have the ability to prevent the King changes taxes. The higher house shall be known as the Executive Council. This body will from now on be made up of 160 members, 80 elected directly by the people and 80 elected by the King. This body will be expected to formally approve measures suggest by the Representative Council to the King before he gives final ascent should he wish. The new constitution grants significant power to the people of East Moreland for the first time. One such example is the ability to pass a vote of no confidence in the Monarch. Should 250,000 citizens present a motion of no-confidence to the Representative Council a referendum will be triggered giving citizens the chance to keep the existing monarch, crown the heir or accept a new constitution drafted by the Representative Council. Citizens also have the ability to suggest laws themselves. Should a petition with 150,000 citizens signatures be presented to the Representative Council the Council members will have to debate and vote of the suggestion within 30 days. PAUL THE EXPLORER STUDIED TEACHINGS OF LAVELL  Today Archaelogists made two startling announcements at the Royal University of Northfort. The first announcement confirmed the identity of the tomb's owner as Paul The Explorer. DNA matches were made to both King David and Princess Freya who both donated samples to allow Archaeologists to test against samples taken from the tomb. Dr.Merriman of the University stated, "This is the most startling discovery of my life. Its taken almost 1000 years but finally we have the remains of one of our most enigmatic Kings." Paul The Explorer was King of East Moreland between 1109 and 1144, however it is believed he only spent a total of 6 years in East Moreland instead preferring to lead expeditions to learn more about Mundus. The true extent of his potential travels is yet to be confirmed however the teams digging at the tomb have already announced they have solid evidence he ventured far further than the King Paul Atlas suggested. One of the new pieces of evidence discovered was a tile buried in a tomb anti-chamber. This tile shows the King speaking to a priest of the now discredited Qa'Hirin Sect. The inscription reads "Helus I learnt the secrets of Lavell but I stayed true." The inscription however has already caused debates over its meaning. Some historians believe that Paul had discovered the truth we are only now learning while others believe it means he simply studied the religion but choose the Cult of Helus instead and that the tile was him proclaiming his faithfulness to Helus. Dr.Merrimen told us "What King Paul meant at the moment is still a mystery. We've been keen to keep the people of Mundus updated on the dig we'reee undertaking outside Keepton. This dig could be significant to many countries around the World." So far an estimated 45% of the tomb complex has been excavated and Dr.Merrimen expects to find much more. "Everyday we find new things and the team get very excited. We hope that the remaining 55% of the tomb will yield more on our own nations history and in these troubled times for the Qa'Hirin worshippers." Dr.Merrimen went on to tell us, "For all we know Paul may have discovered the secret of the Qa'Hirin's prophet long before we did. It'd be very exciting to find that but we have to let the evidence speak for itself." In a related matter Dr.Merrimen is due to lead a team to Achkaerin to team up with CETO colleagues there as they set out to the Qa'Hirin Sects homeland to help with excavations of sites there. "So far I've enjoyed working with Dr.Donna Steele (CETO Chair) but it'll be nice to get out and work with the CETO boys and girls in the field. We've got around 4,500 years of dirt to dig through, my experience is that means a whole load of digging before we even get close to the time period we're studying. I kind of see Archaelogy as time travelling. Each layer of dirt we remove takes us further back in time. I can't wait to get my hands dirty."  Doctor Merrimen on a field trip with his students. |

FINAL PREPARATIONS FOR FESTIVAL OF GREENFLOWERS  Today has seen the final preparations for the national celebrations to mark East Moreland's birth as a nation. The Festival of Greenflowers will see the citizens of the country enjoy 24 hours of celebrations, however with the festival falling on a Friday this year many suspect this 24 hour party will last until Sunday evening. The Air Force's pilots where seen having a dry run of one of the fly pasts that will take place over Northfort at around midday tomorrow. The King has invited dignitaries from all the embassies to attend the Royal Ball taking place at the Royal Palace in the evening, around 7,000 people from across East Moreland have been invited. The Palace decorations where unveiled early today, palace spokesman Alex Redfern told us "over 3km of Red bunting has been placed around the palace, we've used over 4,000 flags and I lost count of the weight of cake that has been brought to the palace." It is also expected that the evenings fireworks display will be the biggest ever seen in East Moreland history. "Its been a tough few months for our nation, but I think we have things back on track. We thought it was important to make an extra special effort this year to send a message to the world that despite having taken a kicking we will always bounce back." This comment from Mr.Redfern was thought to be a message aimed squarly at the Borlanders. Tomorrow also marks King David III 33rd birthday. As a result at midnight tonight the King's Birthday Honours List will be revealed giving awards and titles to those who have been thought worthy of recognition by the Monarchy. It is widely expected the new Prime Minister will be knighted. Several of the athletes from the Independent Order Games are also likely to be on the list. |

KINGS BIRTHDAY HONOURS ANNOUNCED As is tradition the list of the Kings Birthday Honours was posted on Northfort Palace gate at midnight last night. The majority of the honours do not come as any suprise. The new Prime Minister Harry Samuelson will become Sir Harry Sameulson after being made a Kinight of The Realm an honour he shares with former Prime Minister and now CIS Ambassador Jacob Longe and Royal Northfort Universities head of Humanities Dr.Marcus Merriman. In addition to his Knighthood Dr.Merriman is also awarded the Meritorious Service Medal in recognition of over 40 years of services to education. The Minister for Culture and Tradition Henrietta Quinn receives the female equivalent as she is granted the title Lady of the Realm for her role in negotiating the Cultural Exchange Treaty. As expected the athletes from the Independent Order Games won several of the lower ranking honours, including Daisy Greechan who at age 18 becomes the Youngest person ever awarded the Bronze Sword, an award given for one off acts of inspiration not including combat or disaster. The 17 then year olds final leg of the swimming relay and subsequent efforts as part of the Royal Naval Swimming Club have seen many young girls take up the sport. Meanwhile the most major sporting honour goes to Katie Hollands who becomes a Baroness after representing East Moreland in show jumping for over 30 years and who won a silver in the recent games. She now serves as Deputy Minister of Sport. Her boss however was also awarded as Kelly Urquart also becomes a Baroness after establishing a sports programme which bore great success at the games and with the rugby in the recent CIS Cup. There were honours to amongst the business and technologies world as CEO of EMAC Alan Maybury was made a Viscount for continuial support and inspiration of technological advances. He told us the honour was "more of a tribute to the incredible staff I have working for me, they don't really need any inspiration from me, they are a joy to work with. I feel honoured to get this award but I'd like to share it with my staff." In addition six members of EMAC's Research and Development teams recieved vairous awards for their part in recent innovations. As expected people involved in the uprising agains the illegal Regency featured heavily in the honours list. Tim Carpenter the Freestone native and Representative Council candidate recieves both the Order of The Shield and The Moreland Cross for his leading of the assault by the people of Northfort on the royal palace. Commander of Red Legion Brigadier Archie Kelly is inducted into the Order of the Sword for leading a mutiny against the illegal Regency by Red Legion, many of his soldiers recieve military medals. One of the more well known being Major Danny Frost who lead the assault on Ostlake against a heavily fortified Blue Legion position. He is given the Distinguished Combat Medal along with many of his men. In a break from tradition foreign forces are awarded honours too. After providing support during operations against the Regent unnamed members of Elpidia and Achkaerins Armed forces are made honourary members of the Order of the Sword for "Honourable actions in defence of the nation and its honour by military" members |

 The Festival of Greenflowers was brought to an end by a giant fireworks display above the capital, Northfort. Hundreds of thousands of people crowded the parks and river banks to watch as a series of displays lit up the sky to a musical score composed especially for the event. The King watched the display from the Palace balcony joined by guests from government and foreign embassies. Noticeable he was seen arm in arm with Matilda Osman, the first time the pair have been seen in public with each other despite weeks of rumours of their relationship. The Palace declined to speak about the alleged relationship stating it was a matter for "Miss Osman and His Majesty". The parties lasted well into the morning as people celebrated the nations birth almost 1,600 years ago. Many people gathered in the Royal Park for a large open aired concert featuring bands from across the country. An estimated 3,000,000 people watched the Red Legion parade through the capital before the streets where taken over by revellers. HARRY SAMUELSON TURNS DOWN KNIGHTHOOD  In a shock announcement the Prime Minister Harry Samuelson turned down his recent Knighthood granted in the King's Birthday Honours. He said "I'm obviously honoured, but I've done nothing in the last 12 months that changes what I've achieved. The move to Knight me is clearly one to make me look less like the Working Class my fellow politicians keep claiming I am." This is the first time in 65 years that a person has turned down a knighthood. The last person to do so was Rupert Green, the eminent scientist who turned it down as a move of protest against a lack of Science funding by the government. Ten years later however Dr.Green was again offered a Knighthood and accepted. Mr.Samuelson says he hopes one day his service as Prime Minister may merit being offered it again. "I can think of no higher honour than being recognised for great work, but I've been in the job around a week and don't even have a Council to run yet. Its a bit premature. I won't be some political pawn for the King." FOUR SOLDIERS BROUGHT HOME  Today four East Moreland soldiers from the Keepton Fusiliers had their funerals. Lieutenant Morrison (24), Corporal Andrews (26) , Fusiliers Hendy (19) and Croft (22) died last week while carrying out a routine patrol of the Safraen capital Polau. The bodies returned home on the same flight as the Prime Minister. |

OSMAN TECH INVEST IN BETTER AUTO  It has been announced that East Moreland's largest company OsmanTech have invested around £EM500million in the up and coming environmentally friendly company Better Auto. The investment gives OsmanTech a 51% stake in the business. Better Auto was set up just three years ago and the move is thought to show Lord Osman has significant confidence in their projects. The flagship programme of Better Auto is their Better Place programme. This has so far been doing reasonably well in Silverhills and the backing of OsmanTech is likely to see the programme expanded to the whole country. In Silverhills the Better Place project has seen Better Auto install Charging Poles. Owners of electric cars pay a monthly subscription and can charge their cars by inputting their membership card and a pin number. Around the ring road of Silverhills a battery swap programme exists. Cars simply drive into an automated cabin, lift their bonnet, insert a pin number and an automated arm removes the cars battery and places a fully charged one in its place. The whole process takes around 3 minutes from inserting your pin number. So far four of these have been built in the Silverhills area. The scheme so far has around 2,000 subscribers and the announcement of the expansion of the programme is thought to boost numbers in the coming days. Better Auto was the brain child of Rachel Morrison, she has been kept on as CEO of the company despite selling much of her stake. "This was an excting opportunity to work with one of the biggest companies in our nation. We now can expand our programme out of Silverhills, we plan on setting up the scheme in Portworth next, its a big city and many businesses are there that may see this as a good PR exercise, showing they care for the environment. We would love to see companies signing up for fleets of our cars. We also plan to set up a network of Battery Exchange Stations between Silverhills and Portworth." EAST MORELAND TROOPS HAND OVER TO REPUBLIC  Yesterday Colonel Hollifield of the East Moreland military officially handed command of our nations base of operations to the Safraen Military. The East Morelanders took the stadium several months ago after intelligence suggested it had become a base of operations for what soliders in Safraen refer to as "Marauders", organised gangs carrying out horrific crimes. The stadium was taken in a fierce fire fight in which around 50 Legionnaires died. Since then the stadium served as East Moreland's headquarters. The handover signifies once more step towards the Republic becoming self sufficient again. Of the 2,000 Legionnaires based there only 200 will remain providing support for Republican soldiers on their request, they have been placed under the command of a Safraen officer. The 1,800 Legionnaires who have withdrawn from the stadium will return to the original base of operations at the airport where they will aid with caring for casualties, rebuilding work and re-training the new Republic's Armed Forces. It is expected that the first of them will return to Ostlake early next week. Ministry of Defence spokesman said "we hope to have removed all our forces by the end of the year, although that should not be taken as a hard and fast deadline. Our priority is the safety and security of the people of the Republic, as long as our forces are needed and welcome we will remain." TRIAL OF FORMER REGENT BEGINS  #The trial of Prince James began yesterday at the High Court in Northfort. The former regent faces several charges, however to make the case less complex each charge will be heard in turn. The case currently revolves around the charge of treason. The first witness into the witness box was Alex Redfern, the Kings Chief of Household. He gave testimony of how the Kings travel plans back from Verover had been distributed leaving it appearing that James may have informed Borlanders of the King's flight plan. He was then asked about how James reacted to the attack on his cousin. Redfern said James "seemed to almost start smiling once I informed him he would be Regent" Redfern then went on to say how he was removed from his position once the Royal Party arrived at Ostlake but heard a Search and Rescue team use the callsign "Ironside One" this callsign is only used for a vehicle containing the King. Redfern will take the stand again today after the judge halted questioning to remind people that some of Mr.Redferns actions in the Kings return are classified. This again has stired up rumours that Redfern's role is merely more than the Kings PA. PREPARATIONS FOR OSTLAKE GAMES BEGIN  Ostlake Military Games begin on the 4th of June. This year a team from Dijel and Achkaerin will also enter making this year the biggest games so far. It was decieded to invite CIS allies as a way of creating greater cohesion between the forces. The games will last a week and will see around 80,000 extra military personnel flood Ostlake each day. EMTV will also be televising action from the games each evening. Some events will also see members of the public able to buy tickets, for example the 7's Rugby is expecting to draw crowds of around 20,000. In a shock announcement yesterday evening two members of the Royal Family will also be competing. The King will represent Peagasus Legion in the Great Ostlake Challenge on the final day of the games. This will see the King undertake a 15km Combat Run and then undertake a shooting competition. The King is known to run in the grounds of the Palace everyday and was as a youngster and accomplished long distance runner for his University. While it cannot be confirmed it is thought the King also lead a contingent through the Alps during the recent coup attempt. The King is still commissioned as a Captain in the Alpine Cadre and carries out reservist training. The Kings sister, Freya will also compete in the games for Pegasus Legion, recently transferred to the 1st Royal Light Infantry Regiment she will compete in the Individual FIBUA competition, recently returned from action in Safraen she came 1st in the Legions open trials for this competition. |

OSMANTECH EXPAND AGAIN  OsmanTech have today announced another partnership with an innovation company based at the new Technology CityLord Lucas Osman and young entrapenur Jillian May appeared outside the SFR building at Technology City to make a joint announcement. Lord Osman said "This is another very innovative product and I firmly believe this product will benefit East Moreland, and the world, greatly." It is believed that OsmanTech have brought a 25% share in SFR. Jillian May then announced the first major roll out of their product Solar Roadways. These innovative solar panels replace roads, car parks and other large areas of tarmac. The product only recently finished its prototype stage and last week passed East Moreland Highway's Agencies tests for road surfaces. The first instalment will be the car park of OsmanTech HQ in Northfort. "We're excited to try this product out, should it work successfully then we'll cut our energy spending by around 75% and for a company our size that's a major saving. We suspect that within two years we'll get back the cost of the panels." Lord Osman said. "Having partners like Lord Osman opens up so many markets for us, we hope that one day our product can replace all roads in East Moreland, and one day maybe even the world." The company will also look to integrate these panels with other companies. One suggestion made has been to use them on naval vessels to help produce electricity. It is expected that SFR will team up with many compaies based at the Technology Park. SUSPENDED ANIMATION TRAILS TO BEGIN  East Moreland Royal Medical College today announced that they have been granted permission to conduct human tests of a technique called Emergency Preservation and Resuscitation (EPR). The technique has been likened to Suspended Animation found in many sci-fi films. Dr.Garrett of the Northfort Royal Infirmary where the tests will take place told us, "It won't involve the capsules and look quiet so cool but the benefits will be amazing." In many cases of trauma the patient bleeds out before we can repair the damage. Dr.Garrett told us "its like a race against the clock, can we stem the bleeding before the heart pumps all the blood out. This buys us time that can be valuable." The technique involves putting a cannula into the aorta and flushing cold saline into the system. This reduces the body down to 10degrees Celsius and places the patient into a state of hyperthermia, this can be maintained for two hours. The process reduces the heart rate down to around 18 beats per minute meaning fluid loss is greatly reduced. Dr.Garrett said early tests had been quiet promising. " I first tried this technique on 40 pigs in 2000, with the results published in 2006. After inflicting a lethal wound to simulate real-world trauma scenarios, the pigs were cooled down so we could operate then resuscitate them. While all of the control pigs died, the surgeons were able to save 90% of the pigs. None of the surviving pigs were reported to have sustained cognitive or physical impairment." It is thought the treatment will be offered to the families of patients the Doctors feel would normally have no chance of survival. Dr.Garrett is looking to use the procedure on around 100 patients and publish his results next summer. |

KING OF SEAFORTH ATTACKED IN NORTHFORT  A terrorist incident rocked the city of Northfort as an unknown group attacked the King of Seaforth Josiah I. As Josiah I made his way towards the airport after ending his meeting with our own King his security convoy was attacked with RPG's and assault rifles. The scene was one of carnage as one vehicle was struck by a rocket while another was rammed by a heavy vehicle. A fierce fire-fight erupted on the streets during which civilians were forced to take what cover they could. The incident lasted only a few minutes before armed police arrived to find several dead bodies and the King of Seaforth slumped to the floor holding a ceremonial sword presented just hours earlier as a gift by King David. It is thought the King of Seaforth valiantly tried to hold off the attackers with the weapon. King Josiah was immeditaly taken to Northfort Royal Infirmary but as of going to press we have no update on the Kings condition. Eye witnesses confirmed the King was shot during the attack however some witnesses claim it was once while others told us it was as many as four times. Both King David and Prime Minister Samuelson have visited the hospital but refused to give details of the Kings condition stating, "it is a matter for Seaforth to determine." Both did read a prepared statement however.The King said "The act carried out today is one of cowardice. Attacking someone in the middle of the street is no way to solve whatever dispute you feel you have. East Moreland will provide every support to Seaforth during this time, together we will find who did this and bring them to justice.". Around an hour later Harry Samuelson echoed the Kings sentiment in his own unique way. "Once again terrorists have shown they are nothing but weaklings, they refuse to look their enemy in the face, that is the act of a coward. The Kingdom of Seaforth will have mine and East Moreland's full support in tracking down this vermin wherever they are. If they are from our nation I can guarentee we will find you and hand you over to Seaforth so you can feel the full wrath of their justice. If you are outside of East Moreland we will move heaven on earth to find you and end you. People of Seaforth you have my word on that." Minutes before word of the attack on King Josiah came through the King announced that East Moreland would be supporting Rokkenjima, Lyrosir and the UNNA in the establishment of a no-fly zone over Great Jonathania. "So far we have heard only rumours and political propaganda coming out of what now appears a failed state. Three civil wars in such a short space of time clearly shows some deep routed, and maybe irreparable differences between the people there. We must ensure civilians are safe and the best way to do that is control the skies above the country denying both side the ability to do harm to civilians." The King went on to say "we tried a diplomatic approach but this has clearly failed for the time being.We firmly believe it is the duty of every Morelander to protect those who can not protect themselves and that's what our air force and navy will be doing." Reports were also confirmed that Elpidia had granted access to their airspace for missions by the Royal East Moreland Air Force. The first air patrols are expected to commence within 24hours our of Illumic Command. |

SOLDIERS RETURN HOME Yesterday several military transport planes arrived at Ostlake bringing the first of East Moreland's soldiers from Safraen home. After a lengthy flight the troops were welcomed home by King David who paid tribute to "the astonishing dedication" shown by the men and women of Black Legion. Each of the returning soldiers will now be given two weeks leave before returning to duties. Prior to leaving Safraen all the troops were tested for the Kaju Virus and all equipment was disinfected. It is expected that the next group will return home in a weeks time with the last East Moreland troops leaving in roughly a months time. Amongst those returning was Colonel Hollifield who had been in command of the Moreland forces. Major Grant of the East Moreland Royal Marines will be the ranking officer for the last few weeks of our nations involvement. ELECTION RESULTS  In the first elections since the new constitution came into force there were no real shocks. The 500 seat Representative Council will be formed from 291 independent councillors, meanwhile The Party of Workers gained 20 Councillors while the East Moreland Traditionalist Party gained 65 seats. The remaining seats where spread between the Green Party, Moreland Liberals and the Social Democrats. The Representative Council will now appoint from within their members a Chief Councillor who will form a link between the Council and the crown. Meanwhile in the Executive Council elections 31 independents were elected. The Traditionalist Party claimed six seats , Moreland Liberals two and the Social Democrats one. As Prime Minister Harry Samuelson will take a position within this council. |

OSTLAKE GAMES BEGIN  East Moreland's traditional military games began today with teams from outside the Kingdom joining in for the first time. A contingent from Dijel and Achkaerin competed in the days opening events alongside teams from the five Army Legions, the Air Force, the Navy and the elite Red Legion. The games are a combination of military events and sporting events, the first day as usual is mainly preliminaries for the finals later in the week. The Rugby final will be played tomorrow with either Red Legion, the Navy, Achkaerin or Dijel taking the title. The Navy did well in the womens football too with the finals taking place tomorrow also featuring the Air Force and Achkaerin alongside a team from the People's Legion. Home teams took the first points of the competition by Sergeant Yemm from Hunters Legion winning the Mens 10km Cross country while Corporal Hand won the Womens Race. Suprisingly Achkaerin dominated the drill preliminaries and take an advantage into the finals, in the Drumming competition the Navy take a slim lead into the final day. The shock of the day came however when Red Legion failed to win the rifle shooting for the first time in the games history. The Gold medal instead went to WO Isaacs from the Royal Legion. The games continue tomorrow with around 45,000 expected to watch the finals of the rugby at the EMAC Arena.  CARPENTER ELECTED AS CHIEF COUNCILLOR Gaining 52% of the votes from the Representative Council young Timothy Carpenter has been elected as East Moreland's first ever Chief Councillor. He will take his place in the Cabinet from Monday and will form a link between the King and the lower house of representatives. He will be able to propose laws for debate before they reach the King for final approval and he will represent the people at many state and foreign functions. Carpenter rose to prominence when he lead the civilian protests first against foreign intervention against the Regency and then upon discovering Prince James' lies lead a charge against the Palace itself where he was wounded several times. Upon being elected he was asked whether his protests against other nations may come back to haunt him he said "We've all made mistakes in life, I was doing what I thought best at the time for my country. I'll not apologise for that. I tried to do it peacefully and if I made anyone feel frightened, threatened or insulted them then I apologise now in the media and I'll apologise to their face when I meet them in person. Its the least I can do." Carpenter will meet the King for talks about the year ahead in the Councils on Monday. As a Freestone native it is assumed he will push for a hardline to be taken against the Borlanders while his young age (33years of age) is thought to make him concerned about the future of jobs for young graduates which is slowly transforming due to Technology City. |

MILITARY GAMES ENTER LAST DAY  The Ostlake Military Games enter the last day with everything to play for. The Air Force currently lead the competition for the Ostlake Trophy with a total of 45points. This comes after a fine display during the Silent Drill competition, this was helped by fine performances by Air Force personnel in the Boxing and Fencing competitions. With many points to be determined on the final day the competition is still wide open. The Royal and Red Legions are 8points behind. The overseas competitors of Dijel and Achakerin sit in 5th and 4th place respectively. Several days ago Princess Freya competed for Pegasus Legion in the Individual FIBUA competition coming in 6th. On the final day of the competition the King will compete for Pegasus Legion in the Great Ostlake Challenge taking his Legions combat run portion of the relay event. The Royal family have been in attendance throughout the competition with the King being accompanied by Matilda Osman. Yesterday the King was spotted enjoying watching the Boxing with Miss Osman and later East Moreland's social media networks were flooded with pictures of the King with spectators. Around 100,000 spectators are expected to line the various routes of the Great Ostlake Challenge course. In the evening after the events have finished Non-Commissioned ranks will enjoy a ball at Ostlake West while the officers ball takes place at Ostlake East. TREASON CHARGES DRAW TO A CLOSE It is expected that the first verdict in the trial of the former Regent Prince James will be reached in the coming days. The trial is dealing with each charge in turn and the case for treason will be completed by the weekend. So far the Prince has seemed very hesitant answering questions when he took the stand. He was played a tape of Kyle Barren talking and asked to explain how he was able to determine the whereabouts of the supposed body of King David so quickly, an incident he blamed on his now deceased Chief of Household Kieran Addison. Previously King David's current Chief, Mr.Alex Redfern, explained how the Prince was aware of the King being alive yet took no action. The verdicts will be returned by a panel of neutral judges. NEW COUNCILS MEET FOR FIRST TIME  The Executive and Representative Councils meet for the first time today. The various Councillors took oaths of office and the leaders of the Councils gave speeches outlining the plan for the year ahead. Prime Minister Harry Samuelson (above) spoke in the Executive Council and outlined plans for the extension of national service, close co-operation with our CIS allies in defence matters and a overhaul of the welfare sector. Meanwhile in his first official speech to the Representative Council the Chief Councillor Mr.Timothy Carpenter encouraged the Representatives to support schemes to promote youth employment, better educational opportunities and the formation of diplomatic links outside the CIS. As part of his speech Mr.Carpenter said, "Our allies within the CIS have been steadfast friends during difficult times, we must stand beside them as firmly as they stood beside us, however there is more to the world than the CIS. It's important East Moreland gets out there and takes our place on a global stage." |

MILITARY GAMES ROUND UP .jpg) The 2014 Ostlake Military Games drew to a close today with the Royal East Moreland Navy taking the Ostlake Trophy for the first time in their history. They defeated reigning champions of Red Legion by two points in a surprise victory. The visiting teams of Dijel and Achkaerin finished fourth and sixth respectively. These teams found themselves with a slight disadvantage in some events owing to the use of standard issue East Moreland kit. The Games organiser Colonel Thompson said "It was great to see our allies taking part alongside those they served with in Safraen, we hope their participation can become a fun tradition of these Games." The final event of the games was the Great Ostlake Challenge, a triathlon done in teams followed by a shooting competition upon immediately completing your leg. This Challenge Race was watched by around 250,000 lining the various routes , the number of spectators was probably boosted by the participation of King David who ran the Combat Run section of the Challenge for Pegasus Legion which he is a reservist Captain in. The King put in a respectable time finishing third overall for the run, however a fall by Pegasus Legions cycler Sergeant Warren Elliot saw Pegasus finish fourth. Overall the King's home legion of Pegasus had a disappointing games finishing last. An exhausted King spoke with us after the race finished "I'm pleased with my performance, my knees held up well and I shoot better than I had in practice. I'm just sorry to see us finish bottom, Pegasus is far better than that." The Games will officially close with the two Balls at Ostlake East and West. The King will be attending the Officers ball after making a brief PR appearance at the Non-Commissioned Ball. SOLAR POWERED WARSHIP  After teaming up with OsmanTech the small company SFR have been contracted for a test of their product on a military Naval vessel. The REMNS Walter The First will begin to be fitted with these unique Solar Panels in the next week. The panels are tough enough to act as part of the flight deck and most horizontal surfaces will be fitted with these intelligent solar panels. It is hoped that the panels will allow for electrical systems on board the ship to be powered exclusively by solar power. Upon further developments it is hoped propulsion may also be able to be powered solely by SFR meaning that the ship could operate at sea for much longer periods. |

PRINCESS FREYA ATTENDS FLAG LOWERING IN SAFRAEN  Princess Freya flew into the Republic of Safraen today to be part of the East Moreland contingent that lowered the national flag for the final time on Safraen soil. The Princess, a serving Major in Pegasus Legion, was one of six Legionnaires who parachuted into Safraen just days after it was plunged into chaos. As part of Operation Haystack, parts of which are still classified, she lead a team on an intelligence gathering mission which helped the outside world gather information on the outbreak of the virus that decimated the country. The Princess was introduced to the acting government of the Republic and toured the capital. She attended a memorial ceremony at the cities sports stadium which served as a base of operations for Moreland troops. The ceremony saw a Safraen and East Moreland flag buried under a pile of stones which had been placed outside the stadium, each stone bearing the name of one soldier who had died in securing the Republic. 64 stones bear the names of East Moreland Legionnaires and sixteen Safraen stones sit alongside them, each representing a soldier who served alongside the Morelanders. The Princess and a Safraen representative each placed the flags, "We hope this memorial serves as a reminder that our two nations are joined by a bond of blood, our soldiers died side by side doing their duty protecting those who couldn't protect themselves." From there the Princess attended the flag lowering at the airport where the flag was lowered by Sergeants Keane and Kelly of Red Legion, two of the Legionnaires who had parachuted into Safraen alongside the Princess, they have been present in Safraen since then. Upon lowering the flag they last East Moreland Legionnaires witnessed the Republics flag raised before boarding an aircraft heading home, the Princess and the two Sergeants where the last to leave Safraen soil. "It was only fitting Sergeants Keane and Kelly were the last soldiers out, its been a proud tradition of Red Legion to be the first in and last out and I have never had the honour of serving with finer soldiers." the Princess said, it was noted that the Princess boarded the aircraft fractionally before the Sergeants "It would not have been right for me to share that honour with them, the fact they asked me to was honour enough." The final contingent were greeted by family and friends upon their arrival at Ostlake. The King welcomed them back and presented several Legionnaires with medals. "These Legionnaires have done us proud, they have created a safer future for the people of the Republic, I want it known our support for the Republic now does not end. We will stand by them and we wish them well in their upcoming elections. We can now only hope the Soviet Republic follows suit." |

MILITARY GET LIFE SAVING TECHNOLOGY  Osman Biomedicals today released details of their latest medical product. The Instaheal is designed to stop bleeding from wounds such as gunshot wounds in around 15seconds. Traditionally military medics have tried to stop bleeding from gunshot and shrapnel wounds by stuffing the wound with gauze this often does not give enough pressure to stop the bleeding quickly. The new device however is far easier to administer and will prove to be more effective. The device is essentially a syringe that can be pushed inside the wound and when the plunger is pressed very small sponges are deposited into the wound, these expand inside the wound applying pressure to the injury and helping stop the bleeding. The sponges are also impregnated with anti bacterial chemicals which help stop infections. We showed the device to an army medic who said "It looks very promising. When we were out in Safraen a lot of the lads who died bled out before we could get them to an aid station, if this works it will buy the surgeons that vital time to save their lives." The device is going to be issued to units patrolling the Alps in anti-Borland operations. The product was developed at East Moreland Technology City and is the first product which has gone from research and development to mass production from the site. It is hoped that a flurry of product releases from the City will be announced in the coming weeks. |

 PALACE DENY "MURDER" Yesterday the rogue Free Mundus Network transmitted yet another video of Kyle Barren. In this video the terrorist leader claimed that agents of East Moreland had murdered his son in cold blood in the Republic of Safraen. The claims have yet to be confirmed by any independent sources, including the Republic's law enforcement organisations. Details of the alleged murder are hard to come by, however Barren claims that his son, along with long time supporter George Maynard were poisoned. Maynard was a well know Borland leader who for around forty years has fought against East Moreland. Spokesman from the palace were quick to refute the claims made by Kyle Barren. "The King has not ordered any such attack. It goes against our moral code of Canley to attack children, unlike the Borlanders who see cities of civilians as legitimate targets. We are not even convinced that the child is even dead and believe this could merely be a ruse to trick the world into feeling sympathy for a terrorist." As a response to the claims made by Barren the armed forces have increased their alert status. After Barren questioned how countries can be "friends" with East Moreland, who he claimed "murders" babies , the Ministry of Defence have advised nations in the CIS to be aware of possible Borlander attacks. PRINCESS JOANNA REPRESENTS EAST MORELAND The High Priestess of the Cult of Helus, Princess Joanna, is currently attending her first official function outside of East Moreland. She is representing the nation at the Conference of the World in Elpidia. It is expected that conference will focus on how religions across the world can co-operate to help tackle the problems of poverty and hunger. The Kings sister has fulfilled the role of High Priestess for almost a year and enjoys high levels of popularity. With East Moreland being the only nation following the Cult it is hoped the conference will raise awareness of our native religion which is followed by 95% of the population. Although technically no longer a member of the Royal family she has been allowed to retain her title by her brother. KING NARROWLY AVOIDS BOMB ATTACK IN DARTFORDIA  A suspected terrorist bomb ripped through the hotel being used by delegates at the Human Rights Conference in Dartfordia last night. The bomb exploded just before midnight towards the top floors of the hotel where many of the delegates were staying. Sadly Elpidia's Lord Protector Edward Truden was killed in the blast along with six others who have yet to be named. Several others were injured, amongst the most critical being Prince Alexander of Littlebrook. Dartfordian doctors described the Prince as suffering multiple rib fractures, severe body lacerations and concussion. A spokesman for the hospital where the casualties were taken said "“We are confident that the Prince will make a full recovery" Our own monarch was also staying at the hospital and narrowly avoided being caught up in the blast. The King, accompanied by his girlfriend Matilda Osman had been out for a meal in the local town and where on their way to the hotel when news reached them of the blast. Two of his security detail however where amongst the walking wounded. Kieron Muldoon fractured his wrist in the collapse of a section of the hotel while Michael Williams had his face cut by flying debris. The King remained at the scene until his party had all been accounted for before being taken to a secure location by his security agents. While waiting for everyone to be accounted for he spoke to the press. "I'm saddened at the death of Edward Truden. He has been a great friend to our nation. We will provide whatever support we can to our Illumic neighbours during this difficult time." The conference will continue as planned. |

PRINCE JAMES SENTENCED TO LIFE  Today the court case of the former Regent Prince James concluded after the judge Lady Grace Mitchell passed the sentence of life imprisonment upon the man who tried to claim the throne. The judge had been minded to execute James however the jury, made up of foreign judges to ensure impartiality, voted not to allow the judge to use the death penalty. Many of the judges claiming it went against the morality of their nation. No executions have taken place in East Moreland for over fifty years and Lady Mitchell claimed it was only the scale and "brazen nature" of the crimes that caused her to ask for permission to use the death penalty. None of the judges on the jury permitted the death penalty. Instead of being hanged or shot James will instead serve his sentence in Northfort Military Prison. The prison normally houses those members of the military who have commited crimes such as being AWOL, Dereliction of duty and insubordination. The longest serving inmate their is currently Corporal Jason Isaacs, who is serving a 10 year sentence for attempting to sell military equipment to an overseas arms dealer. It is expected that James will serve the first 6 months of his sentence on the isolation wing of the prison to ensure that he does not get singled out by the inmates. Corporal Ian Baldwin served two years in the prison after being found guilty of "endangering men under his command". He told us "The prison routine is basically just like basic training. Up at 6am and an hour of PT, that's followed by a basic breakfast and the rest of the morning clearning out your cell and communal areas. In the afternoon we did drill, more PT, uniform care and we received some education and training to prepare us for our release." In Corporal Baldwin's case he served a further two years with Blue Legion before returning to the military in 2011. "For me it was a long road back to earn the trust and respect of the men in the military, I'm still stigmatised at time but it gets easier. Most of the men here also receiver dishonourable discharges after their sentence so its important they are ready to adjust to civilian life." This however will not be an issue for the former Regent as he stands no possibility of release. The prison is built to house up to 300 inmates and currently houses just under 100. The prison features state of the art security with manned guard towers where snipers operate. The prison is surrounded by a large electrified razor wire fence which is patrolled regularly and is electronically sensor monitored. It is expected that now sentence has been passed that the King will ask the Court of Canley to allow him to remove the title of Prince. A member of the royal family may only have their title taken from them once the monarch has asked the Court to consider their honour. EAST MORELAND TO AIM FOR STARS  The Royal Aeronautical Society today announced a joint project with the Union of Nordic Peoples intended to send a probe to investigate the sun. The project will be known as Project Icharus after the ancient myth of a man making wings to fly only for them to melt as he flew too close to the sun. The probe will be built at East Moreland Technology City by a team from both nations. The probe will then orbit the sun getting every closer until, as in the myth, it is destroyed by the sun. The hope is that before that happens the probe will return vital data about the processes happening within the sun as well as monitoring the solar flares and winds. In the long term it is believed that the solar winds could be used as a form of space transportation. Alan Maybury the CEO of East Moreland Aircraft Company (EMAC) announced that his company would be involved with helping construct the probe. "This is a very exciting time for our nation and the people of the UNP. I can't wait to get this thing launched and I hope it inspires future generations of engineers and scientists." With the data being made freely available and schools being encouraged to get involved with the project Mr.Maybury's hopes may not be too difficult to realise. EXPERIMENTAL RIFLE TO GET FIELD TESTS   East Moreland Rifle Company (EMRC) newest project is to enter field testing with members of Red Legion. The F-1 rifle is a unique design as rather than using traditional ammunition it uses a Flachette, essentially a solid piece of metal manufactured in a dart shape. The rifle also does not use gunpowder to fire the projectile, instead a series of electro magnets are engaged upon pressing the trigger which fires the flachette out of the barrel at some 600mph. A spokesman for EMRC believes that the new rifle is the first step in a new generation of battlefield technology. "The weapon has many advantages over more traditional fire arms. The magazine can contain somewhere in the region of 80 flachettes meaning a soldier can effectively carry much more ammunition in terms of weight and volume. The weapon also requires a battery pack, the ones we have are capable of firing around 100,000 rounds before requiring a change of battery. We are also working on a range of ammunition which will see such developments as explosive tips." The weapon has less effective range than the current East Moreland rifles but the rate of fire will be much higher and their will be less recoil. PRINCE STRIPPED OF TITLE  The Court of Canley meet today to remove Prince James officially from the Royal Family. The Highest order of chivalry is the only method of a member of royalty being stripped of their title and lands. James offered no evidence in his defence. The case to strip the Prince of his title was presented by his cousin Princess Freya. She gave accounts of how he had broken oaths to the people and had in fact been connected with the killings of around 200 East Moreland citizens. She also read a statement by her brother King David III in which the King said "It is clear that James is a man who does not act in the best interest of the Kingdom and as such does not deserve to bear the title Prince which marks him out as a man sworn to protect the Kingdom and its people." The Court took just 15 minutes to strip the Prince of his title and estates and return them to the Crown. James will also no longer be entitled to use the surname Ironside thus ending all connection with the royal family. The Court also ruled that upon his death his ashes will have no right to be placed within the Ironside family tomb or be scattered on Royal Lands. CARPENTER ANNOUNCES NEW GOVERNMENT BACKED INITIATIVES  Chief Councillor Timothy Carpenter announced plans today for two new government initiatives. The first was the East Moreland Agricultural Research Centre (EMARC). This will be based at the former estate of James outside Silverhills. The estate had been a working farm for almost 200 years but over the last five years has become neglected. The estate house which has 8 bedrooms will be converted into a series of research labs, classrooms and conference rooms. It is hoped that this will become a state of the art centre for teaching agriculture and developing new techniques to increase yields and tackle world hunger. The ARC project will also provide 80 students with the opportunity to study each year. The second project he announced will be based at James' former sea front property at Portworth. The Junior Sea Ranger programme will be set up the encourage young people to take an interest in the sea. The project will take 400 young people a year and put them through an educational programme on marine conservation and water sports. A keen surfer himself Chief Councillor Carpenter will be a patron on this project. "We've seen a crisis in fish stocks and an increase in sea pollution, its no good postponing looking after these things, we have to take action now. Young people need to see the importance of respecting the oceans and this is an ideal way to do it. We hope the young people coming here will take what they learn back home and start projects of their own." KING ATTENDS OPENING OF HUMAN RIGHTS CONFERENCE  The Universal Rights conference began today in the Kingdom of Dartfordia. The King is representing the Kingdom personally marking his first international conference appearance outside the nation. The conference hopes to get nations to agree to a series of rights that all nations will adhere too. It is predicted that one issue the King may not agree with is the use of the death penalty, it is understood the conference will call for the use of the death penalty to be banned outright while the King believes the Kingdom should retain the right to use it responsibly. In a statement given to Shelly Coe of EMTV the King said "I believe in East Moreland our new constitution and our Code of Canley ensure human rights are looked after, we as a Kingdom should determine the best way to punish our criminals and that includes the sentences we give them. We have the death penalty for treason, but we have not used it in 53 years, even before a judge can give that sentence the jury must agree. I believe our system is humane and do not intend to change it. The conference was opened by Empress Beatrice of Rokkenjima who gave a speech in which she said the aim of the conference was to " to set forth the standards which shall ensure a spirit of respect and protection of rights all people share, rights which do not cease simply because a border is crossed"

HIGH PRIESTESS GIVES SUPPORT TO NEW ORGAN DONOR LAW  The High Priestess Prince Joanna has lent her support to a major new health care law. After the East Moreland Health Service produced a report stating that only 40% of families allow organ donation in cases where the deceased carried a donor card and that around 480 people died last year due to a lack of compatible organs. The Department for Health therefore decided to table a motion to make the harvesting of organs the norm unless the deceased has formally opted not to. It was a concern that the Cult of Helus may oppose the new policy however Joanna gave her formal approval during mass last night. She encouraged all citizens to not opt out stating, "As a follower of Helus we abide by the Code of Canley, it says we must protect those that can not protect themselves. Donating an organ allows us to protect those who have no other chance. Helus does not demand that our body be intact for the correct funeral rituals, therefore your organs can help extend the life of others, a noble duty indeed." The new law was proposed to the Representative Council by Tim Carpenter and passed with 450 votes with 100 against. Within hours it passed the vote in the Executive Council with Prime Minister Harry Samuelson leading the pro debate. It received 61 votes for and 6 against. The law has now been signed by the King and comes into effect on the 1st August 2014. Should a citizen wish to not have their organs made available for transplant they need to inform their GP who will add a note to their medical records. OSMANTECH MEDICAL GROUP TO REMOVE PATENTS OF ANTI-RETROVIRAL DRUGS  Today Lord Osman announced that his companies medical holdings will give up all patents on the antiretroviral drugs that they manufacture. The move opens the way for many other companies in other countries to manufacture the drugs which help sufferers of HIV/AIDS. The move may open the flood gates of cheaper ARV drugs for less developed countries thus allowing them to provide their citizens with the drugs that currently are some of the most expensive on the market. Lord Osman made the announcement outside the OsmanTech building at East Moreland Technology City, in a speech announcing the decision he stated, "Many governments in the world are currently debating human rights and quiet rightly have stated that the right to life is something all people should be given. In a small way we hope that this move can contribute to that right. For too long we have been irresponsible partners to the world, its time we change that, here at OsmanTech we have shown a desire to make our business practices more ethical, we've invested in green technologies to help protect the future of our planet, we've improved our working conditions for all our employees and now we wish to make a positive impact on the world." Skeptics however believe the move is nothing more than a publicity stunt pointing to the record profits of the Osman family of companies. FESTIVAL OF SAIL BEGINS  The annual Portworth Festival of Sail began in traditional style, with a East Moreland Marine bringing the Kings sword ashore. REMNS King Robert was the first vessel to enter the harbour and was soon followed by a host of guests from around Mundus. With more ships scheduled to arrive in the coming days this informal celebration of naval traditions and engineering has already seen several foreign dignitaries arrive. Empress Marianne the First of the Empire of the White Feathered Alliance arrived onboard one of her Navies ships. This was soon followed by the Thematan naval Destroyer named Risen, a ship named in honour of the recently murdered Opun Resin. The Thematan Destroyer could be heard giving traditional naval chants as it entered the harbour. One of the biggest surprises however was the arrival of a delegation from Zoniath, a nation notoriously isolated in its outlook. Many ships from Rokkenjima have also lined up to enter and the spectacle of the QE2 and United States ships approaching the harbour blowing their horns was a high point of the day for many naval enthusiasts. One spectator said, "I love these old liners, their not just vehicles their works of art." Due to arrive soon it is not known whether representatives of the Dartfordian or Rokkenjiman governments are on board. The King was asked about the festival so far, "its certainly been the most international festival we've had in my lifetime. I hope this is a sign of things to come with the world coming together sharing an interest in the oceans." |

ROYAL ENGAGEMENT AT FESTIVAL OF SAIL  In an unannounced moment today King David III proposed to his girlfriend Matilda Osman. Surrounded by a shocked crowd the King went down on one knee and asked the daughter of Lord Osman to marry him. Shocked by the proposal Miss Osman burst into tears before saying "Yes." The single word was meet with resounding cheers from the on looking crowd and three cheers from the crew of the nearby REMNS King Robert. The couple first meet officially at the post Independent Order Games Ball held at the Northfort palace and have since been dating for just over a year. The couple have split their time between Northfort and Portworth where Miss Osman works as a Marine Researcher. The couple have yet to announce a date for the wedding and royal spokesman have yet to pass any comments. Chief of Royal Household Alex Redfern was asked about the engagement while attending a meeting in the Council building in Northfort, his response gives indication that the King had not announced his intention to marry to his cabinet. Mr.Redfern simply said. "He's what......why am I always the last to know everything." Miss Osman is aged 26 and it is not known if she will now give up her job and begin attending more functions in an official capacity. She has in recent months attended the opening of several new government facilities and was accompanying the King when he attended the Human Rights conference in Dartfordia. PRINCESS FREYA TO DELIVER HONOUR TO TRUDEN  It was announced today by the King's Chief of Household Alex Redfern that Princess Freya has been dispatched to Elpidia to deliver The Moreland Cross to the lying in state of former Elpidian Lord Protector Edward Truden. The medal is the second highest awarded by the King of East Moreland to civilians and is awarded for "Acts providing great inspiration to Morelanders." It marks the first time that the medal has been given to a foreign national. Mr. Redfern also read out the citation written by the King explaining the reason for presenting the medal. "During his lifetime Mr.Edward Truden worked tremendously hard to make not just Elpidia but Mundus a better place. His tireless devotion to duty and his friendship to East Moreland makes him a man worthy of honour. His dedication to furthering peace amongst the international community should inspire Morelanders to live in peace with their neighbours. I am only saddened that this award can not be presented to the Lord Protector personally." Mr. Redfern went on to say that the Princess would not be attending the funeral as the family have asked for a private affair, however she will go and pay her respects and leave the medal at the venue where the late Lord Protector's body lies in state. It is unknown whether she will carry out any other diplomatic duties while in Elpidia. |

ROYAL WEDDING AND CORONATION PLANS ANNOUNCED  The Royal Office has announced that the wedding of King David III and Miss Matilda Osman will take place on the 2nd August 2014 at the Temple of Marissa in Northfort. The wedding will take place at 9am following a Royal Procession from the Palace. Immediatley following the wedding the couple will head to the Temple of Helus at the opposite end of the Temple District where Matilda will be crowned Queen. It is the first time in history that a Royal wedding and coronation have taken place on the same day. The Royal Office also announced that the High Priestess will not carry out the wedding ceremony as religious law prohibits relatives officiating at weddings, the ceremony will instead be officiated by Gabby Manners the Lead Priestess of Marissa. Princess Joanna will however officiate over the coronation. In further news the identity of the best man was announced. Mr.Alex Redfern the Kings Chief of Household will fill the role, the two being friends since University and having served in the military together for a number of years. Meanwhile Miss Osman's sister Jessica will act as Maid of Honour. It is not yet certain who will design Miss Osman's gown. The King, as is tradition, will wear military uniform and it is expected this will be his Alpine Cadre uniform. Invites are expected to be sent later today and it is hoped that the nations allies can attend what the nation hopes will be a joyous occasion. |

FREESTONE SCHOOL REOPENS  Almost a year after the Freestone Missile Attack the Freestone High School has been rebuilt and yesterday was re-opened by the King. The old school building was completely destroyed when two Surface to Surface Missiles exploded in the city almost on top of the school. The business centre and shopping prescient in the area also received major damage. In total 264 people where killed in the attack, around a quarter of them coming from within the school. The King also renamed the school the Melissa Gunning OC School after the young teacher who sacrificed her life saving her class from a collapsing building. Witnesses saw her return into the collapsing building several times and her body was found shielding a student from the falling roof. The student, 12 year old Kelly Henden was also at the unveiling and joined the King to unveil the schools new name plaque. The young student said "I was very proud to unveil the name of the school. I'll never be able to thank Miss Gunning enough for saving me, I hope I can make her and the school proud." In the aftermath of the attacks the King personally spoke for Melissa Gunning in the Court of Canley securing her a posthumours place uin the Order of Canley making her the first female civilian to be so honoured. The King said "We will never be able to give enough honours to Miss Gunning, she was an inspiration in life to the students she taught, in her death she became an inspiration to the whole Kingdom, including myself." The school will be the first carbon neutral school in the Kingdom utilising geothermal energy and solar panels. Toilets will be flushed using collected rainwater and the Solar Roadway panels have been used for many of the schools paths. The school also includes its own vegetable garden with waste food from the canteen being used to make compost and feed the schools own chickens. The Headteacher Arthur James said "It's important young people grow up well educated, but its also important they grow up respecting the environment and living in harmony with it. Also attending the ceremony was Chief Councillor Timothy Carpenter a former student of Freestone High School. "The new building is certainly far better than the old one, I'm just sorry my old locker was destroyed. Its very different to where I came and I'm certain it will help our young people gain a first class education. MILITARY PLACED ON STAND BY  The King today announced that all military leave will be cancelled and that those undergoing national service will have the terms of their service extended by at least 6 months. The Military reserve has been called up meaning approx. 150,000 soldiers will be reporting to their bases in the next 48 hours. The move comes after increased tensions between Warsaw nations and the CSTO. The King has already deployed Dukes Legion to Ossario to secure their borders after Novinica was invaded and Ossario began to be flooded with refugees. These moves take the East Moreland Army to just under 500,000 soldiers with the possibility of those finishing military service within the last 2 years being called up for service. Meanwhile troops are moving into the East of the country to cover any threats from vessels passing through the Illumic. |

FIRST INTERANTIONAL GP TAKES PLACE IN SILVERHILLS  The World's newest motorsports competition made its debut at Silverhills today. Formula Mundus sees 15 teams from around the World compete in some of the fastest cars to grace the track. The competition was dreamt up by a group of East Moreland motorsports enthusiasts with the aim of creating an exciting global event. Formula Mundus will visit 17 tracks and around 14 countries. The first Grand Prix was hosted in Silverhills and the final race of the season will take place in Northfort. Carrying the hopes of East Moreland is Rytol Racing with drivers Mark Lindley and Matt Cooke. Despite being on home turf the team finished low down the order. Chief Race Engineer Richard Thompson told us, "Its early days, expect to see some inconsistent results in the early races as teams come to terms with the changing tracts, climate and get to know the other drivers strengths and weaknesses." The race was hosted by Princess Freya who started the race and waved the chequered flag. The race was a tight affair and was eventually won by Nikodim Krupin of Quinntopia Racing. Around 150,000 crowded into the race circuit to enjoy the debut of this new event that organisers hope will become an annual event. The race goers certainly had an entertaining race with Nikodim Krupin taking the chequered flag only three seconds ahead of Daniel Miles of PBR. |

FIRST SAME SEX MARRIAGE  Following the Kings signing of the Universal Human Rights Treaty in Dartfordia the Kingdom's first same sex marriage took place. The first ceremony was conducted at the Temple of Marissa in Northfort by the High Priestess Princess Joanna. The ceremony was seen as controversial by a small group of Priests who believe that same sex couples should not marry. Prior to the Kings approval of the Treaty a deal was struck with the Priesthood in which no Priest would be forced to carry out a marriage but could not block a couple marrying at the Temple should they find a Priest willing to carry out the ceremony. The first couple to be married was Joe Greening and his partner of 6 years Luke Hyatt. "It's amazing to think we've set a small piece of the Kingdom's history and to have the High Priestess proside over the ceremony was an incredible blessing." said Joe. The pair made their way out onto the Temple's plaza, with their hands still bound, to great cheers from a large crowd of LGBT Rights groups. The King also sent a telegram to the couple in which he said "Your union marks the first steps towards what I hope will be a fairer and more tolerant society for my citizens. I wish you a long and happy marriage and pray that Marissa sends her blessings upon you." Meanwhile the Kings sister used the occasion to reaffirm her thinking on the matter. "I've studied our scriptures for most of my life and I am yet to see one example of any of our Gods saying same sex marriage is wrong, we have many tales of the Gods stating their love for each other, some may say this is fraternal but love is love....who am I to stand between two people who love each other. I'm sure if Helus thought it was wrong we'd have known about it somehow." |

FUTURE QUEEN FINALLY INDUCTED  Today Matilda Osman underwent the Ceremony of The Sword. The move comes a week before her marriage to the King and subsequent Coronation as Queen. Most Morelanders undergo the ceremony at the age of 21 after completing their national service, at 26 it was considered controversial the future Queen had not undergone the ceremony. The Press were not allowed to witness the ceremony which Matilda's father Lord Lucas Osman said was a "private and proud moment for family and friends." However the Royal Press Office did reveal certain details about the ceremony. The blade Matilda has chosen is a slim katana style blade with green handle, the style is not usually preferred in East Moreland but Matilda cited an interest in Oriental art as an influence in her choice. The blade was carried into the Temple by Matilda's elder sister Jessica while her shield was carried by younger sister Erin. The King spoke as one of the witnesses to her good character. The whole ceremony was taken by the High Priestess Princess Joanna. Many media sources had taken to calling Matilda "LackBlade" a term that is quiet insulting in the nobility of East Moreland. Many royal commentators believe that it was this that prompted her to take the blade before her marriage thus ensuring no insult to the Royal Family. It remains to be seen whether she will follow the custom of female Royalty and wear a miniature version of the blade for diplomatic and formal events.  PROJECT ICARUS TEST LAUNCH SUCCESSFUL At East Moreland Technology City the Project Icarus Launch Vehicle (PILV) was successfully tested. The expendable rocket built by a coalition of scientists and engineers from East Morleand, the Union of Nordic Peoples, Zoniath and Dominiscius was launched into space carrying a small radio transmitter. The transmitter did three orbits of Mundus before burning up, as planned in the atmosphere. Alan Maybury CEO of East Moreland Aircraft Company, who built the engines, said "This is an outstanding moment for our company and the nations involved. Its our first steps as a nation into space. Everything went according to plan and we're hopeful of a series of more ambitious tests over the next few weeks." It is thought that Project Icarus' solar probe will be launched inside the next three weeks as long as the weather is as predicted. Each of the nations involved will be celebrating a successful launch as their first steps into space exploration. The project also sees the first on Mundus to look at the centre of the solar system rather than heading out. Nigel Oldham of the Royal Aeronautical Society told us "This project will gather vital research data that we're going to make available to all nations, with no exceptions, it could open a whole new scientific revolution, should we be able to work out how the solar winds work we could maybe see a whole new possibility of inter planetary travel." |

THE BIG DAY IS HERE  Tommorrow morning marks a major occasion in the Kingdom of East Moreland. The Royal Wedding has already drawn large crowds onto the streets of Northfort. An estimated 2,500 people have already spent the last 24 hours camping out on the streets of the Temple District in order to get a good view of the Bride and Grooms arrivals. In total organisers estimate around 200,000 will line the route from the Palace to the Temple. The Royal Park has also installed a large screen where thousands are expected to gather to watch the event live. The event will begin at around 9am tommorrow when the King and his party will walk from the Northfort Barracks to the Temple, it is expected the King will wear his Alpine Cadre Uniform, meanwhile at a similar time Miss Osman will begin her journey from the Palace. Following the wedding the couple and their guests will make the short journey across the plaza to the Temple of Helus where Miss Osman will be crowned Queen. Invites where sent to most of the World leaders on Mundus and many attended the Kings Stag party a few weeks ago.It is expected that many world leaders will again attend the Kings wedding. |

QUEEN SARAH'S TOMB FOUND  During the renovation of the Temple of Jekar in Keepton a mysterious tomb was found. Records of all tombs had been kept going back to the foundation of the Temple in the 8th Century, however during the laying of a new drainage system for the Temple a new tomb was discovered thought to pre-date the Temple itself. A stone seal secured the tomb which was unbroken, upon opening the tomb a lead lined coffin was found which contained human remains of a woman. Several inscriptions have also been found each of which was in Ancient Morelandish. Professor Marcus Merriman of the Royal University of Northfort was one of the first to translate it and soon after excitedly informed the press. "We believe we have discovered the tomb of Queen Sarah, the first wife of King Robert I, the unifier and creator of our nation." the find comes just before the first Cultural Exchange Treaty Organisation Festival to be held in Achkaerin. "I'd love for us to have pieced together enough about her life to present it there, however we have much to learn." Queen Sarah was the first wife of the first King of East Moreland, having married while he was in hiding from his brother. The pair were married for four years and all the knowledge we have of her life comes from sections of the King Robert Codex, a document found written by the King himself. In the Codex all that is mentioned of her is that she was the daughter of a noble family whom Robert allied with. She died within a year of the Battle of Greensleeves the exact date and manner of her death being unknown. Historians now hope to find out much more about her. Dr.Merriman informed us, "The tomb walls are covered in inscriptions and we found several codex in her coffin, I can't wait to discover what secrets are held within these pages." The King is due to visit the site in the coming days as a Patron of the Royal Historical Society. A royal spokesman informed us "The King is keen to see the dig be a success and will do whatever he can to help the team there." It is thought the King, who is a direct descendent of Robert and Sarah will be asked to provide DNA to help confirm the identity of the body.  TWO EAST MORELAND LEGIONNAIRES MISSING ON FLIGHT 39 Two East Moreland Legionnaires who were part of an iconic photo from operations in Safraen have gone missing after Flight 39 disappeared en route to Zararus. Sergeant Timothy Thomas and Corporal Adam Barber were photographed during the operations to secure Safraen helping carried a wounded Safraenese soldier they'd been helping train out of a fire fight. The two Legionnaires had been seconded to the fledgling Safraen Army to help it rebuild following the nations collapse. As a result they'd made many friends in the Republic and had been attending the wedding of one of the men they'd trained. The pair left Safraen to catch a connecting flight from Zaraus back to Northfort when the aircraft disappeared from RADAR. All crew and passengers are currently missing persumed dead after the body of a flight attendant washed up on a Meche beach, medical exams show she died of hyperthermia rather giving hope to some that there may be survivors Flt.Lt Brian McCall a former Search and Rescue pilot told us "Without an appropriate rescue suit or raft a person can only survive in the North Sea a few minutes, sadly this doesn't give me much hope for a successful rescue of any survivors." |

ROYAL COUPLE'S HAPPY DAY  For the first time in the nations history a Royal wedding and the coronation of a new Queen took place on the same day. During the morning King David III married Miss Matilda Osman at a ceremony conducted by the Priestess of Marissa at the Temple in Northfort. The ceremony was the first East Moreland Royal Wedding to be attended by foreign heads of state. Matilda wore a simple medieval style dress which was mainly white with panels of purple. During her walk to the Temple Miss Osman found time to stop and speak to a young girl dressed as a Princess. The crowd found the scene of Miss Osman curtseying to the young girl endearing, the young girl was later invited into the Temple by the Osman family and the girls pink dress stood out amongst the finery of the visiting dignitaries. A royal spokesman told us "Her Majesty saw the dress and the girl and it reminded her of her sadly deceased younger sister Amy, she was also delighted to see such a young girl enjoying the day with her father." During the ceremony at the Temple the traditional ceremony was used with the couples hands being bound by birth scarfs and sword belts. Royal Chamberlain Reynolds, a family friend of the Kings father, filled in the role traditionally undertaken by the Groom's father. Loud cheers accompanied the couple's exit from the ceremony where they quickly made their way back to the Palace to change for the coronation. Meanwhile the guests made the short 200meter walk to the Temple of Helus where High Priestess Joanna was in charge of the ceremony. There were a few breaks with tradition during the coronation of Queen Matilda, first it was the first coronation in which non-Morelanders had been permitted to attend, a move many experts say spoke of the King's desire to ensure the Kingdoms move further into the international community. Next tradition was broken as the Queen's champion was not a member of the nobility, the Queen choose Prime Minister Harry Samuelson who seemed to revel in the role shouting a challenge to any to deny that Matilda was the rightful Queen. As the rhythmic tapping that symbolises Red Legions support of the Queen it was notable that many foreign dignitaries in the crowd seemed to join in by tapping their feet, as did most Morelanders inside the Temple. The loudest cheer of the day came when the crown was placed on Matilda's head and she was proclaimed Matilda the First. The royal party and their guests then made their way back to the palace where a feast was held until the early hours. The Royal couple will now spend a week at the Royal Summer Retreat in Rockhampton before embarking on Queen Matilda's first royal visit to a yet to be confirmed destination. The royal family have asked that they be allowed to "spend some time in peace" before returning to their duties, in the meantime the day to day running of the Kingdom will be left to Prime Minister Harry Samuelson, who now also bears the title "Queen's Royal Champion" and Chief Councillor Timothy Carpenter. |

ROYAL COUPLE'S FIRST OFFICIAL VISIT  The Royal Office announced today that the first official visit by the King and new Queen will be to the Confederacy of Allied Separatists. This move came as a shock to many political commentators as relations between East Moreland and CAS have, until now, been almost non-existant. A statement delivered to the press by the King's Head of Royal Household Alex Redfern stated "King David and Queen Matilda have meet several of the CAS diplomats informally at recent events such as the Ireden Royal Gala and at their wedding, the couple believe that the two nations share many similiarities and wish to explore bonds of friendship with this nation." It is believed that the visit will give time for the couple to relax as well as tackle issues such as trade and diplomacy between the two nations. The couple will be accompanied by Foreign Minister Robert Kennedy, Chief of Household Alex Redfern and Chief Councillor Timothy Carpenter. The move came as a further surprise as many political commentators believed the pair would visit a CIS ally as their first official visit. Professor James from Northfort University told us "Usually one would reaffirm your alliances after a sudden shift in the nature of your country, however it appears the King must be confident of the foundations of his alliances otherwise he wouldn't have made this trip one of his priorities." NEW ARTIC SURVEY SHIP ANNOUNCED  The Royal Navy and the Royal Institute for Science have announced a £EM 200million vessel will join their Scientific fleet. The new ship will be named REMNS Queen Matilda and will be destined for artic waters to conduct state of the art research. The vessel will be able to deploy remote controlled submarines along with many other pieces of scientific equipment. It is expected the boat will enter service in around 6 months time and will head straight out for sea trials in the Northern Sea. The boat will be named after the new Queen who we are told is "thrilled to have such an amazing ship named after me. As everyone knows I'm a Marine Biologist myself and I've always hoped to get the chance to work on a ship such as this, I now hope to get to see my own boat in action." |

EMRC TO PROVIDE PERSONALISED HANDGUNS TO POLICE  East Moreland Rifle Company today unveiled their latest hi tech handgun that has been specifically designed for use by the East Moreland Police Force. The EMRC Smart-Gun, consists of three barrels in one housing, is electronically fired and is coded to the specific officer. The weapon was demonstrated at Northfort Police Station and will go on trial with 20 officers for the next six months. George Bennett, the guns designer demonstrated the weapon to the assembled press. "The weapon marks a new era for the police, it gives them more options than firing just live rounds, the weapon runs off one traditional style magazine with live ammunition, however the two other barrels can be pre-loaded with various load outs, such as rubber bullets, explosive rounds, tranquillisers, a whole host. In addition the gun has no moving parts making jams less likely. Finally the fact that each firearm is coded to just one officer makes it impossible for the weapon to fall into the wrong hands. The police officers thumb print allows the electronic circuit to be completed and the weapon fired." It is thought that the weapon will be carried only by East Moreland's armed officers initially but if successful could see more officers being routinely armed. STRIKES CARRIED OUT AGAINST VEASHAK  Following weeks of aggressive actions against East Moreland citizens working for the Cultural Exchange Treaty Organisation the East Moreland Navy have carried out proportionate strikes against Veashak. Following failed attempts at diplomacy the hostile nation declared war against the CIS who had ships stationed in the region in international water. Various targets where hit using missiles launched from various naval vessels and these were followed up with low level air-strikes. A military spokesman said "The target package was designed to not impact civilians, it was to send a message that we will not allow nations carte blanche to endanger the lives of our citizens or those of our allies, several SAM sites and oil facilities were destroyed and no casualties of the Navy took place. We hope this is the only action we need to take and that Veashak will come to the negotiating table before lives are lost." |

SPORTS TEAMS LEAVE IN SEARCH OF GLORY   Two East Moreland sports teams departed today for international sporting events. The teams hope to build upon the successes of Team EM at the Independent Order Games and the near victory of the HoneyBadgers Rugby Team in the CIS Cup. Team Winter EM left for the Independent Order Winter Games to be held in Achkaerin, the team are made up of many members of the Armed Forces, especially the Alpine Cadre and as such are heavily fancied in the biathlon. Team Captain Major Simon Collins spoke of his hopes for the competition, "We've set ourselves a target of five golds and a total of ten medals, we know its ambitious as its our first international event but we're eager to get stuck in and confident in our abilities." With the only training facilities for many of the winter events being the Alps it means the team have limited access to year round home facilities. One of the most favoured athletes is Corporal Jennie McMillan in the Short Track Speed Skating, the 22 year olds the East Moreland record for the discipline and trains at the Roberton Ice rink which is more often used by recreational skaters. Meanwhile hours later the East Moreland Cricket Team, also nicknamed the HoneyBadgers left for the Cricket Mundus Cup in Thomradia and Quinntopia. Cricket captain Iain Bootham spoke to the media about the teams prospects. "Cricket is not a major sport in East Moreland, we know that, however to have qualified for the competition we intend to give it our best go, you never know what will happen after that." One concern the team have is the large amount of travelling, with some games taking place in Thomradia and others several thousand kilometres away in Quinntopia it is yet to be seen what impact that will have on the teams performance. Princess Freya and Prime Minister Harry Samuelson saw the teams off and spoke of their hopes, Prime Minister Samuelson said "We've been doing well in international sport recently and I'm sure that these two teams will carry on that progress." Meanwhile Princess Freya spoke of her ambition for the future of East Moreland sport. "We've seen great achievements from our nations athletes and these people have become role models for the nation. Take the example of Daisy Greechan, two medals in the Independent Order Games and we saw an increase in the number of young people swimming, our nations problem is we rely on the military and schools to give opportunities to our athletes, that has to change and we'll be making announcements about that very soon." The King and Queen are currently out of the country on a state visit to the CAS however a spokesman for the King said he would be "keeping tabs on whats going on in Achkaerin." |

FIRST GOLD AT WINTER GAMES  On the opening day of the Winter Games East Moreland claimed their first ever medal on the snow and it just so happened to be Gold. Lindsay Morton secured Gold in the Women's Slalom. The 22 year old from Roberton had earlier in the day failed to finish in the Top 8 of the Super G event but quickly placed that disappointment behind her to win Gold by less than half a second. Lindsay was one of the first skiers to go and it was a nervious wait as the other competitors went. It was only when the final skier from St. Monterrey crossed the line and had failed to beat Lindsay's time that the youngster realised she'd won the Gold. "I was sat watching it back in the changing rooms, everytime someone went over my time I breathed a sigh of relief. I knew I'd gone quick but when you watch girls of this standard on TV they just look so quick you think their bound to beat you." Lindsay's medal win will hopefully get the rest of Team EM into the medal winning mood. Meanwhile yesterday Tom Barks finished 7th in Super Combined despite having the fastest slalom time, a stumble during his Downhill run saw him lose significant amounts of time. In other events the men's Curling team drew with Ossario before losing to Dartfordia, while their female counter parts lost both their games to Tytor and St. Monterrey. The team are hopeful of plenty of medals tomorrow as the Biathlon event takes place. MORELANDERS MOCK "KINGDOM OF BORLAND"  After the announcement that the terrorist leader Kyle Barren has declared tiny High Rock to be the property of the "Kingdom of Borland" many Morelanders have begun mocking the tiny wannabe Kingdom. In the People's Park in Northfort someone had placed Borland Flags on the tiny islands in the fish pond. At one of Keepton's traffic islands someone had replaced the local corporate sponsership sign with a "Kyle tried to annex this roundabout, we said no" banner. In a poll by this newspaper 87% of Morelanders said they were not concerned by the so call creation of this Kingdom. One person told us, "For us nothing's changed, he's still a mad man wandering around the Alps with a bunch of terrorists." What worried more people though was the fact that the Kingdom had support from members of the international community, the same man told us " The fact that Tristantia and Achkaerin have come out and recognised this man is insane. How can they give legitimacy to a man willing to do so much evil." Other Morelanders were angry about Achkaerin's recognition, one even going so far as to label it a betrayal. "Barren doesn't just claim a rock in the ocean to be the Kingdom of Borland, he claims this nation, he claims the very street we're stood on. To recognise that the Kingdom of Borland exists will in Barren's mind legitimise his claim to East Moreland, regardless of how the Achkaerin government try and word it they have essentially confirmed to him that his claim is valid." A government spokesman however saw things differently. "Achkaerin's recognition of this tiny rock is not a recognition of Barren's claim. We are disappointed that the Emperor has seen fit to recognise the claim of a man who recently nearly killed his daughter, however Achkaerin's foreign policy is their own business. What disappoints us more is the fact that having lost two Red Legionnaires to get his daughter back the Emperor sees fit to grant their killers legitimacy." The statement also marks the first admission that East Moreland troops were involved in the rescue of Princess Serenity after her kidnap by Borlanders. |

BACK FROM THE DEAD  An unfamiliar site was today seen in the Alps around Roberton, for the first time in around 300 years a family of Wild Boar were seen. The family are one of four that have been released into the Alps after a carefully constructed breeding programme. The project is being run by a charity supported by Queen Matilda. The Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust aim to re-introduce four species lost to East Moreland several hundred years ago, the Wild Boar being the first. The programme began in four wooded conservation centres where the families have been reared in safety for the last five years. During that time care was taken to allow the animals to have as natural a life as possible. The lead vet on the programme was Susan Ward, "These wonderful creatures were hunted to extinction for their food and tusks around 300 years ago, today we have farms rearing them for food in expensive deli's and restaurants, thats fine as long as the animals are treated well, however nothing will be more spectacular than seeing this animals back amongst the wilds roaming through our ancient woods. In East Moreland we're lucky to have lots of wide open spaces so them coming across humans is not an issue. Once upon a time they were a key part of our nations eco-system and we hope they will be once again." The charity also has plans to reintroduce three more lost species to East Moreland in the coming months, the Otter, the Alpine Ibex and the Golden Eagle are all set to be reintroduced.

MAGIC MONDAY AT WINTER OLYMPICS  The East Moreland team at the Winter Games had an outstanding day as the nations strongest event, the Biathlon took place. The East Moreland military took centre stage as they contributed 12 of the 18 members of the biathlon team. In the Men's 10km Sprint event the nation won a Gold and Bronze with Jack Hardy taking 1st place from the competator from Dominiscius, Simon McCaul came in just behind to take Bronze. In the same event youngster Eddie Hall came in 8th rounding off an impressive display by the team. In the Women's Sprint things went less well as Sharon Merry and Kelly Saunders came in 5th and 8th respectively. Normal service was resumed in the Mens 12.5km Pursuit as Greg Kinnear and Ben Cameron took Gold and Silver. In the women's 10km event Olivia Butler took Gold by an impressive 30 seconds margin. A bronze followed in the mens individual when Barney Turner came in 30 seconds behind the Gold medal winner from Thomradia. The final medal in the biathlon came from Team EM's captain Simon Collins who took the silver in the Man's Mass start. After his medal presentation he spoke with the media. "We hope that today kickstarts the rest of the team, we knew this event was going to be a strength for our nation but we never expected to do this well." Simon Collins, who is a Major in the Alpine Cadre put the success down to the day to day duties in the Alps. "When you spend you whole working life patrolling the Alps this kind of skiing becomes second nature, what lets us down at times is not the stamina but the speed, although I think we've done amazingly well." With 5 of the 7 medals being won by either serving or ex members of the Alpine Cadre Simon went on to say, "The regiment back home will be ecstatic, we had lots of messages from the boys and girls last night and they certainly helped. "What I find amazing is that if we were competing as just the Cadre we'd be on top of the medal table with three golds. I know it won't last but we'll take it while we can." The amazing day at the games is being refered to as Magic Monday and sees East Moreland top of the medal table with four Golds and six in total. In other events the Men's Curling team managed to secure wins over Dominiscus and Zaraus leaving them 4th in Pool A. Meanwhile the womens team defeated Quinntopia and Caelidia leaving them 5th in Pool B. Over in the Ice Hockey things went badly as the Men's team slumped to a massive 7-0 defeat to Seaforth while the women managed to defeat Dartfordia. With the biathlon relay's starting tomorrow the nation hopes for more medals. |

WICKED WEDNESDAY  East Moreland's biathlon team added to the nations medal haul in another successful day for Team EM. The men started the day off by taking Gold in the Relay, finishing 12 seconds ahead of Great Jonathania. The team all became double medallists as each of them had taken individual medals the day before. Greg Kinnear , Ben Cameron, Simon McCaul and Jack Hardy are sure to be given a heroes welcome when they return home at the end of the games. Meanwhile the womens team failing to finish in the Top 8 was hailed a disaster by Kelly Saunders who skiied the final leg, "Its disappointing to have experienced such a high one day and then such a massive low the next, I'm just sorry we let the rest of the team down." Shortly after though the mixed team lead by Simon Collins brought home the silver. Collins added this to his silver from the mass start. In a shock medal win Shelly Appleton took the silver in the closest of competitions, the gold being won by Zararus and with less than a second seperating the Top 8. "When competition is that tight you never expect to get anything, to walk away with a silver when I'd been hoping at best for a Top 8 finish is amazing. The days medal haul leaves East Moreland top of the medal table narrowly ahead of Quinntopia, however ironically press in the USR has claimed it is infact their nation that tops the medal table. Simon Collins said "It slightly insulting that our great efforts are being ignored by the USR's state media, guess its just one more reason I'd prefer to be a Morelander than a Soviet." |

ROYAL FAMILY MARK 5th ANNIVERSARY OF FATHERS SHOOTING  Today marks the fifth anniversary of the shooting of King Sven I of East Moreland. On this day in 2009 King Sven was visiting Keepton University when a student called Stephen Moore shot the King with a handgun from amongst the crowd. Members of the public seized Moore and stopped him from escaping. Moore is now serving life imprisonment in Ostlake Maximum Security Prison. King Sven survived for 6 months on life support before his wife, Lady Helena made the decision to turn off the machine. During that time King David III was acting as Regent. It later turned out that Moore as a member of the Borland Seperatists. Today the King and his two sisters Princess Freya and High Priestess Joanna attended the family tomb at the Temple of Rolaf in Northfort where the former King and his wife are memorialised. Out of the view of the press the family laid offerings at the tomb and spent time telling their parents the news of the year as is custom. The Kings Chief of Household Alex Redfern said, "This is important family time and the King thanks the press for privacy at what is still an emotional time. This year in particular those emotions are heightened because of the ongoing problem with the Borlanders." Mr. Redfern though was keen to point out, "I am sure the Kings parents would have been thrilled to hear the news that their son has married a wonderful woman and is steering our nation towards greater things." Queen Matilda was absent from the day as she is attending a meeting in Achkaerin. When asked about her abscene Mr.Redfern said, "This is an important day for the Ironside family to be together and the tomb is in a small space, it is difficult for even three people to sit there yet alone four. The Queen believed it was more important for her husband to attend with his sisters." NEW LEGION TO BE FORMED  The Ministry of the Armed Forces announced today that the King has agreed to the formation of a sixth regular Legion within the Armed forces. The newly created Cyborg Legion will not however be as large as Pegasus, Duke, Royal, Hunter and People's Legion which each number around 50,000 Legionnaires, instead Cyborg Legion will consist of of merely 18,000 Legionnaires and will have its own independent Naval and Air units. The Legion will not carry out typical military operations and will instead focus on the use of new technologies and techniques. General Katie Yacobs, head of the Army said , "This is an interesting day for our military, we've seen how the nature of warfare is changing rapidly over the last few months, technology is advancing at a rapid pace and we've seen cyber warfare used against a nation for the first time. East Moreland's military has to adapt as well." Cyborg Legion will test new equipment and develop new strategies for the military. One of the new members of the Legion showed off one of their first acquisitions the mini-drone. Having been on trial with Red Legion for a few months the mini-drone will be operated by Cyborg Legion members in the Alps. The commander of the new legion will be General Thompson the former 2.I.C of Dukes Legion. "Its an honour to be given such an important command and I look forward to establishing ourselves in East Moreland's military. It'll take us around a year to get all the recruits we need and get them trained and thankfully the King has agreed that we can transfer some members of the other legions across if they have the skills we need. At the launch of the new legion Corporal Marcus (photographed) showed off one of the new mini-drones and spoke of his excitement about the new Legion. "I joined the Army at 18 as I felt it offered someone with poor qualifications like me an oppurtunity to do something worthwhile. I've now got a degree in Computer Technology and get to try out some of the newest military equipment on the planet. This legion will not only benefit the nation but also give young people a chance to learn what I'm sure will be some very interesting skills." |

KING MAKES STATEMENT ON CLUSKY DEATH SENTENCE  For the first time in over fifty years an East Moreland court has passed sentence of death on a convicted criminal and had the sentence upheld by the jury. James Clusky was found guilty of several terrorist attacks resulting in over 100 deaths, in what lawyers have described as the "most open and shut case in our nations history", it took the jury less than an hour to find him guilty and approve the use of the death sentence. The announcement caused speculation that the King would overturn the sentence using his royal prerogative, the very idea causing people to begin to protest outside government buildings. Surrounded by speculation the King released a statement on his stance. " Just over a year ago I asked you, the people of East Moreland, to consider the biggest change to our nation since the foundation of the Kingdom. Along with a team of dedicated ministers I drafted a constitution that promised my subjects more representation and a stronger more powerful voice within our government. I was delighted when you overwhelmingly accepted our first ever constitution in a referendum and since then people like Chief Councillor Carpenter have been a wonderful job ensuring that this government acts in the interest of the people it is supposed to represnet. This brings me to the announcement I have to make today. You see the decision to execute the Borland terrorist James Clusky places me at a fork in the road. I have signed a human rights treaty that places great importance on the right to life, the most important right enshrined in the treaty. On the other hand I have witnessed the horrors the Borlanders have inflicting on you first hand and I understand the desire for revenge. I fought hard in Dartfordia to allow nations to have the right to execute criminals, a decision I believed would always be symbolic of the wish for nations to retain sovereignty over its own laws now I face a difficult decision. On the one hand I can commute Clusky's sentence to one of life imprisonment, allow him to keep his life. This will make me appear a compassionate leader, willing to show mercy to even our oldest enemies. It will reaffirm to the world my commitment to the document I added my signature to and it may even make the rest of Mundus think better of me. However I will have to go against the wishes of my subjects. On the other hand I can allow Clusky's sentence to be passed, the man can be executed, bringing closure to many families who lost love ones in Freestone. I can allow our constitution to run its course and trust that the citizens of East Moreland made the right decision giving our judiciary this power. We may lose friends over it, some nations may see us as barbaric. This is a difficult decision for me and one I do not take lightly, but it one I have made. When I took my coronation oath I stood in front of Helus with many of you witnessing it on TV and I said "I shall place the Kingdom above all us.", you the people are the Kingdom, you are what I place above all else. Therefore I will take no action to prevent the legal execution of James Clusky, the process that you my subjects approved will run its course and in 7 days time James Clusky will be dead. I know this statement will shock many nations of Mundus, however we are not acting outside the bounds of the Human Rights Treaty we signed, our commitment to that document is unwavering, as is my commitment to the constitution that my subjects brought into existence. Therefore I accept that many of you may look upon our Kingdom with less favourable eyes however I will not break the simple oath I took to place the Kingdom above all else. Thank you for your time and May The Gods be with you and your burden light." It is yet to be known how the Borlanders will respond or what view the international community will have following this statement. Experts predict the King may face some meetings with Ambassadors concerned over this issue. |

MAJOR ROYAL ANNOUNCEMENT  At 11am this morning a major royal announcement was made at Northfort Palace. Accompanied by a squad of Red Legionnaires and trumpetors Chief of Royal Household Alex Redfern made his way to the Palace gate, tourists where then shocked as the Trumpetos played a royal fanfare and Mr.Redfern began to read an official announcement. Without speaking to onlookers he then attached a framed version of the document to the Palace gate. The announcement confirmed what a handful of gossip magazines have speculated for a few days now that Queen Matilda is pregnant. Ellie Marney, editor of Celeb Show magazine said, "It was blatantly obvious, the Queen suddenly looked frumpy, began wearing less fashionable clothing and put on tonnes of weight. The only thing that caught us out was the fact she's carrying twins, although I can't say I'm surprised." Meawhile tourists at the Palace were delighted with the news. Georgia Mendham visiting the Palace from Keepton said, "To be here as the news broke was incredible , its like being part of history." Videos of the announcement went viral within minutes, long before the official announcement was couriered to Embassies within the Kingdom. The text of the proclamation attached to the gate is recreated below. It is noted by many commentators on the royal family that despite trying to be a more modern monarch the wording is almost identical to that announcing the pregnancy of every Queen for four hundred years.

COUNTRY CELEBRATES ROYAL PREGNANCY  Yesterday the nation celebrated the news of the impending royal baby. Up and down the country Temples provided feasts to those wishing to celebrate the occasion. These feasts were supplemented with people bringing along their own food to share with other revellers. Each temple in the country was given a pig to roast from the royal family. The Temple District in Northfort ground to a halt as people celebrated by having a giant street party. The Temple of Helus, which just two months ago witnessed the coronation of the soon to be Mum, saw around 7,000 visitors according to estimates, as people came to make offerings for a healthy birth of twins in around 7 months time. Bookmakers are already taking bets on the names of the royal babies with Robert being given the top odds of 3/1 for a boys name, while Helene comes out as favourite for a girls name at 4/1. The birth will be the first in royal history of twins, with their being a history of twins in the Osman family.  DEATH OF USR'S STALIN The Chairman of the USR, Stalin, has died. USR news sources announced that Stalin had died after a lengthy illness. The death is expected to only be grieved by those Warsaw nations. The King released a statement on the death through the Foreign Office.

CLUSKY TO HANG IN FOUR DAYS  Northfort Prison Warden James Elliot announced today that preparations have begun for the execution of James Clusky. The execution marks the first in over fifty years to take place in the Kingdom. Under national law it is the responsibility of the warden to choose method of execution. "We considered firing squad however our prison has no facilities where we could do that and guarantee a swift and safe execution. Therefore we have had to settle for hanging." An unknown hangman has been appointed and he will remain anonymous. "We've had to quickly renevate and check the old execution room, and everything is in working order." Mr.Elliot told us. The warden the talked us through the process. "We've had to consult some old documents and guidelines but what will happen is at 7am Clusky will be permitted to speak with a Priest if he wishes, or any religious person. At 8am guards will enter the cell that backs into the execution room and handcuff his hands behind his back. He will then have a hood placed over his face and be taken into the execution cell where a pre-prepared noose will be placed over his head and then three guards will pull leavers at the same time upon the signal of the hangman. Only one leaver operates the trap door so none will know who operated it. After the fall a medic will check for signs of life. The body will then be disposed of in line with Clusky's religious beliefs." The execution has sparked protests amongst some Human Rights Groups within East Moreland. Morelanders Aganst Executions (MAE) spokeswoman Jill Convey said "What we propose to do to this man is inhumane, only the Gods should be able to take life and the King is their representative, he should be stepping in to end this madness and then close the legal loophole allowing it.". MAE have been protesting outside the prison for several days with numbers estimated to be around 20.  The expected international pressure has yet to surface speculating that many nations are happy that Clusky is going to die for the crime he commited. |

STILL TOPPING THE TABLE  On Day Six of the Winter Games the East Moreland team still top the medal table. With 8 gold medals, 4 Silver and 2 Bronze the team are only slightly ahead of Quinntopia in 2nd place. However after an impressive first five days the medal haul has slowed down now that the cross country skiing and biathlon events have been completed. It is hoped that the team in the short track speed skating may get the medals rolling in again soon. Despite a medal less day the Mens' Curling team managed to narrowly qualify for the knock out stages by beating Ireden in a playoff. EAST MORELAND AND SEAFORTH NAVY SEIZE WEAPONS  Yesterday a co-ordinated raid in the Illumic between Seaforth's Navy and East Moreland's Navy seized a sizeable supply of illegal weapons, thought to be headed for the North of Alba Karinya and destined for the Borlanders. Around 80,000 rounds of ammunition, fifty assault rifles, RGP's and several heavy machine guns were found hidden on a fishing boat. A Naval spokesman said, "acting on solid intelligence vessels from the two CIS nations carried out a stop and search of the vessel and made the discovery. The crew was taken into custody. This move shows that we are clearly putting the squeeze on illegal arms movements in the region making it harder for terrorist groups to operate." The two nations have been undertaking joint patrols for several months and have found the move has had a severe impact on the amount of weaponry seen deployed by the Borlanders in the Alps. |
