 Welcome to all within the empire and a special welcome to those from across the region who are tuning in for the first time. Crisis Control Unit Launched  Today the Senate of the Holy Achkaerin Empire achieved Royal approval for the newly proposed Crisis Control Unit. The unit is a new state service designed to handle various crisis scenario's. The seal of approval was stamped on the legislation at 11am this morning. Rion Ayanami, 24, (pictured above) has been named as the Crisis Controller. The former Justicar will head up units of specialised personnel in humanitarian and rescue operations. Upon examination of the constitution that governs the unit it appears that unless it is a military situation the Crisis Control Unit has overriding authority in the field, in fact it would appear that the only people the unit cannot pull rank on are the Senate, the Royal Court, the Round Table Conference, Military when situation is dependent, Emperor and heir to the throne.  Princess Serenity Represents Father at Senate Meeting Today saw an interesting and unexpected twist to Emperor's Questions. For first time viewers this is the once a week Senate session where the Senators debate matters of state with the Emperor. Today however saw Princess Serenity Azurewind, 15 years of age and heir to the throne (pictured above) attend the session in place of her father Emperor Peter Azurewind. The Marble Palace has stated that this was a planned move and that there was no reason why the Emperor could not attend the session. This has fueled a suggestion that it is merely a move to give the Princess experience in dealing with matters of state in a domestic setting. This suggestion is further backed up by the fact that for the past year the Princess has been chairing the Round Table Conference. Princess Serenity is believed to have coped very well at her first Emperor's Questions session answering questions relating to the new Crisis Control Unit, upcoming state events, the upcoming launch of the Oracle satellite and the latest package of welfare reforms. Consul Michael Williams thanked the Princess for attending and extended an invitation for her to return in the future. Other News The I.N.S Angel the 5th cruiser type battleship commissioned in the Imperial Navy departed Silver Fox Fort today for the Valkyrian Coastal Straights for shakedown cruise purposes. Rumors floating around the area suggest that the Angel is the fastest ship ever developed by the Imperial Navy so it will be interesting to see just how fast the ship goes. And finally the rare Silver Fox (as depicted on the national flag) has been sighted in the Aurelian Forest, the protected species is closely associated with national hero Djana Azurewind and has been hunted in the past for its valuable fur. First Day of I.O.G Competition The first day of competition at the Imperial Order Games focused on the swimming events ended without the Empire's team winning a medal however there was some success for the swimmers in that Felicity Hughes qualified for the final of the women's 100 metres butterfly event despite finishing last in the final she was surprised at being able to race for a medal in an event she wasn't specifically focusing on. However she sadly failed to qualify for the final of her preferred event the individual 400 metres medley. These games are essentially the first opportunity for the Empire to get itself out onto the world stage and let's hope that our athletes continue to do themselves and their country proud. Further reports from the games will follow and remember to follow live coverage on across the ATC (Achkaerin Television Corporation). Other News Concerns of Princess Serenity's conduct away from the public eye continue to circulate through the media, the concerns come from certain quarters who think that the Princesse's "Tomboy attitude does not befit someone of her position." The Marble palace has yet to comment on these reports but the Senate has stated that as long as it doesn't affect matters of state the Princess's personality is her own responsibility. Swimmers Continue to Suprise The Achkaerin swimming team continues to surpass expectations at the I.O Games, following on from Felicity Hughes surprise appearance in the final of the women's 100 metres butterfly yesterday today the swimming team make two more finals with the men's 4x 200 metre freestyle relay team finishing sixth. The greatest surprise of all though was in the men's 50 metre freestyle event where having qualified for the final Achkaerin's Nick Riley finished in the unenviable position of fourth place less than two tenths of a second off the bronze medal setting a national record in the process. Royal Court Decision on Representative Today the Royal Court with advice from ministerial Senators is spending the day in debate over who will be leading the delegation to be sent to East Moreland in the next couple of days for initial discussions on the Cultural Exchange Treaty. There are many candidates thought capable but until the announcement is made nothing is definite, the announcement in question is expected later today and will be brought to you as soon as we have it. Other News The launch date for the Oracle satellite has been brought forward to tomorrow due to an imposing weather pattern for the original launch date, the satellite is the first of five new satellites that will be launched and will hopefully pave the way for the future of the Achkaerin space program. Oracle Satellite Launched In the early hours of this morning the Oracle satellite was launched up into orbit, the first of five scheduled satellite launches with the remaining four to come in the upcoming months the satellite network once completed and running will significantly aid Achkaerin's ambitions towards space. Flight Director Gary Hale of the Achkaerin Space Agency (A.S.A) has called the launch and orbit establishment a complete success and there are hopes that the launches of the four remaining satellites- Isis, Cyclops, Daedalus and Icarus can be just as successful. Empire Representatives Decided We were hoping to bring this to you last night but the Royal Court debated for longer than expected in the end it was well into the night but a decision has been made, ANS understands that Princess Serenity will be leading the delegation and that Vice Consul Senator Jonathon Hunt will be accompanying her (see earlier article for further details) Sports News At the I.O Games there are still no medals for Team Achkaerin but no one should panic just yet as the events that are the nations strength are yet to be contested, the overall manager of Team Achkaerin Gabriel Higginson is quoted as saying "We knew this wasn't going to be easy after all we have our strengths and weaknesses but it is worth remembering that our weaknesses coincide with the strengths of other nations while the weaknesses of other nations will coincide with our strengths. MEDAL FOR TEAM ACHKAERIN It's official everyone Team Achkaerin today chalked up its first medal at the I.O Games in Kazarovia with Jaycee Rowe 23(above) taking a shock bronze medal in the women's 75kg weightlifting competition. (Excerpt from Achkaerin sports coverage, commentator sports correspondent Peter Adams) "Here she comes everyone Jaycee Rowe of Achkaerin another solid member of this young Achkaerin team and as it stands potentially the first realistic medal chance third after the snatch lift section with just the clean and jerk lift to come, a reminder of the situation as it stands Themata's athlete lies in the gold medal position with a combined lift of 259kgs, Jaycee's lift if she makes it will give her a combined lift score of 262kgs which would put her in the gold medal position with just two competitors to come so in short a medal would be guaranteed." (draws breath as Jaycee gets into position) "Hands on the bar as she takes a few long deep breaths, she checks her grip the last thing she wants to do right now is drop this weight... up it comes she's got it up to her neck, there are plenty of the Achkaerin athletes in here cheering her on I can see her coach Daniel Harrison offering words of encouragement... another short breath from Jaycee she's never lifted this much before her leg goes back she's half up now the weight above her head... Come on Jaycee just one more effort... She's upright the clock's counting down on her hang on to the fine china back home three... two... one... there's the buzzer the weight hits the floor and the arms go up. Jaycee Rowe we salute you, gold medal position with two competitors left a guaranteed bronze medal absolutely marvelous." (Excerpt ends) In the end the USR took gold and Themata silver but bronze was Jaycee's for certain afterwards she spoke to our correspondent "I can't believe it... I felt like my legs were going to give way on that last lift, it took everything I had to hold the weight up and complete the lift...It's the best day of my life." she said OTHER NEWS The Imperial Senate is meeting in an emergency session today, details are sketchy at the moment as to what is being discussed but we will hopefully bring you more on this soon. CONTRASTING FORTUNES FOR OUR GYMNASTS Men's team from left to right Simon Moore(19), Oliver Makin(21), Ralph Henderson(20),Chris Baker(23), Bernard Tennant(23) and Samuel Roswell(19) Women's team from left to right Eleanor Childs(15),Charlotte Kennedy(15),Becky Nightingale(15),Abigail Snowden(16),Fiona North(16) and Megan Holmes(15) The I.O Games today saw the gymnastics competitions for both the men and the women, sadly the women's team were unable to qualify for the team final but they are young so they will get another chance in the future. By complete contrast not only did the men's team qualify for the final but they won the bronze medal. In a close fought contest with the team from Dijel for the bronze Simon Moore, Ralph Henderson and Chris Baker were able to score enough points on the Pommel Horse to outscore Dijel's performance on their last piece of apparatus. When asked for comment the men's team captain Chris Baker said "This is unbelievable, we knew going into the pommel horse that it was going to be close with the Dijel team but we knew if we kept our heads and made good routines that the medal would be ours- Simon landed a solid 15's score, Ralph is absolutely phenomenal on the pommel horse in training we knew he was a reliable bet and he posted a 16's score, I just had to keep it clean and not fall off and I'm just happy I did that because we got a bronze medal." Also the women's captain Abigail Snowden had this to say "Yeah well we're gutted not to have made the final and have had a chance to compete for a medal but congratulations to Chris and his team for a marvelous achievement hopefully we may get a few new faces interested in the sport now." Keen fans will notice that neither team was actually wearing typical Achkaerin colours, this is because of today's national holiday in Achkaerin- Djana's day held in honour of the first and so far only Empress Djana Azurewind. Therefore both our teams wore colours associated with her. FISH CRISIS Due to research indicating a diminishing longevity of fishing stocks throughout the Independent Order nations throughout the region have been taking action, it is believed that this was the subject of the Senate's emergency session yesterday, the Senate has put into place restrictions on fishing areas and haul size while an efficiency study into the industry is carried out, it should be noted that nature activists are campaigning for the restrictions to be made more permanent. OTHER NEWS The delegation led by Princess Serenity has arrived in East Moreland for the Cultural Exchange talks more details on that to follow in future broadcasts. Also there is an expected announcement from the A.S.A confirming the future plans of Achkaerin's space program, we'll bring that to you live once the press conference is held. SO NEAR AND YET SO FAR Great Jonothanian fencer celebrates gold while Ezra Knight (right) of Achkaerin reflects on a medal that got away Events at the Independent Order Games once more lead our news coverage with the fencing events taking centre stage, Ezra Knight came so close to winning the nation's first gold medal but in a close fought contest where it all came down to the last point Ezra was narrowly beaten by the fencer from Great Jonothania 15-14. After the match he spoke to Achkaerin Sports Network (ASN) and said "It was close, every point demanded immense levels of concentration, by that last point it wasn't about tactics and strategy anymore it was a duel of speed and reflex and the difference in those areas favoured my opponent. I'll be back you can count on that." Achkaerin's top fencer Miranda Kalenchic celebrates her bronze It wasn't all doom and gloom for Achkaerin though as the thoughts of lamenting a lost chance soon evaporated thanks to the nation's top female fencer Miranda Kalenchic (pictured above) who put her time limit defeat to Reichtopia in the semi finals behind her to take the bronze medal with victory over Dijel by a score of 15-12. Miranda also spoke to ASN after the bronze medal match- "I was gutted with the semi final loss but you have to pick yourself up again and go for the medal in the next match, I went out hard and fast, once I had a sustainable advantage it was just a matter of holding on and taking my chances when they come." These successes bring Achkaerin's total medal count to 1 silver and 3 bronzes but that gold medal remains elusive but fear not sports fans Achkaerin's archers are yet to notch their bows and our cyclists are yet to mount their bikes and don't discount a surprise in other events either as has been proven by other nations at these games just because you're good at something doesn't mean you can't be beaten at it. ACHKAERIN ACCELERATES TO GOLD!!! Sisters Niamh (left)and Lucy (right) Fernley celebrate their women's sprint Gold It's been a heck of day at the I.O Games today saw the cycling events and it was full of medals for Team Achkaerin, first up was the Men's individual sprint and it brought the first gold for Team Achkaerin with Pat Sharpe claiming the medal in a tight race with Tytor that was to mark the beginning of a day long battle in the velodrome for the two nations. Pat then joined team mates Timothy Yale and Edward Cunliffe for the Men's team sprint where they claimed a silver medal narrowly losing out to Kazarovia in the gold medal race. But when you talk of track cycling in Achkaerin you talk of the four teenage Fernley quadruplets who make up the women's sprint and pursuit teams, the pursuit ended in a fall resulting in withdrawal from that event but the women's team sprint was to be another matter with second eldest Lucy leading out the youngest Niamh better known as the "Red Comet" due to her red bike and powerful acceleration this was the cycling gold that Achkaerin demanded and it was duly delivered. And yes you've guessed it the team they beat into the silver medal position was the team from Tytor. Also Ruth Fernley picked up the bronze in the women's individual pursuit. In the other pursuit events there was double joy for the men as they claimed gold and bronze in the individual pursuit- Tony Colt got the gold with Percy Herbert getting the bronze this than transcended into silver in the team event alongside Kevin Gibbs and Lee Barry. On the road there was more success, Jason Bennett won silver in the men's road race and took 5th in the time trial event in the time trial it was the turn of Mark Wood to shine as he took the silver. As for the women in a long sprint to the line Sammy Lawson narrowly lost out placing fourth with team mate Melanie Parker sixth both were to bounce back stronger as in the women's time trial Sammy took the gold and Melanie the bronze. All of which leaves Achkaerins medal tally at four gold medals, five silver medals and six bronze medals with still plenty of chances of adding to the tally to come. BREAKING NEWS SPACE PROJECT'S FUTURE REVEALED (Live broadcast of ASA Director of Flight Operations Nicola Fernley) "Ladies and Gentlemen as you are aware a few days ago we launched the first of our Space Cartography satellite network, the satellite in question being the first of our two telescope satellites Oracle as you know this is a network of five satellites. The remaining four being Cyclops, Isis, Daedalus and Icarus. Cyclops is the second telescope satellite, Isis is a scientific analysis satellite which is self explanatory while Daedalus and Icarus are relay satellites designed to transmit information around the network and back to the ground." "Launching of the four remaining satellites will take place once the newly constructed launch site in Solaria is tested and will result in two launch dates with two satellites being launched at a time. However we have other more ambitious projects in the pipeline. First is our Asgard program, which is construction of an orbital space station which naturally will be named Asgard (think ISS). There are other more adventurous programs but they are still in the development stages and are not yet ready for public revelation." (End of live broadcast) Incidentally the second launch site mentioned is expected to be finished in terms of construction in the next few days and after final inspection the first of the launch dates is expected to be set with the second soon after. Further details on the Asgard project will be forthcoming at a later date although there may be inquiries made abroad. Other News There were further medals for Team Achkaerin at the I.O Games in the Archery bringing more gold medals with them. The success of Team Achkaerin at the games has led to a petition calling for an increase in funding for sports and for a nationalized system for many sports essentially taking amateurs and turning them into professionals. NAVAL SEA TRIALS UNDERWAY Late yesterday evening designated ships of the Imperial Navy left Silver Fox harbour the lead ship was the cruiser type battleship I.N.S Angel it is believed that Fleet Admiral David Jackson commander of the Imperial Navy has gone along to personally observe these trials although rumor has it that he's far more interested in the latest development by the Riviere Corporation the Mermaid(pictured with her pilot below) The Mermaid craft named 'Saki' on the deck of the Angel pictured from above and the test pilot Ensign 'Z' Kennedy. Rather than bore you with a list of its capabilities written by a reporter who doesn't fully understand it how about listening to the words of the Managing Director and Chief Project Manager of the Riviere Corporation Catriona Rowan in a statement made from the I.N.S Angel earlier today. "I'm sure there are those of you wanting more details about this craft, the brief Riviere Corp was given was to design a naval craft that could reach areas quickly and also reach areas that might not normally be accessible to standard naval vessels the design brief necessitated a smaller craft and lighter construction materials. Essentially the Mermaid is a hovercraft constructed with a carbon fiber hull, the long pointed parts either side of the cockpit house the engines which use turbines to put down 600 horsepower (300 per engine) although most of the time the sea will not permit putting all that power to use so we have built in several different power settings for the engine so the pilot can choose the setting best suited to the sea conditions to put that into context the fastest standard ship the Imperial Navy possesses is the one we're standing on the Angel can do 35 knots we estimate that Mermaid's will exceed that but we don't know the actual top speed. Given that we were developing this for the army we were going to have to give it some form of arsenal which meant applying elements of fighter plane technology in that we've equipped it with limited armaments as we didn't want to trade off speed, naturally we had to consider the possibility of these being used in a war theatre or at the very least being attacked so we've equipped them with some defensive systems but I won't be saying what just watch the test run later today. Finally what we're most proud of with this craft is that the power source for 'Saki' is a hydrogen fuel cell we may end up having to revise that element of the design if the test run goes badly. We did have to spend around 50,000 Iso's more than expected on developing the prototypes but it was necessary." MILITARY SOLDIERS BACK FROM EXERCISES Troops from the Achkaerin Special Forces (ASF) arriving back in Valtheim after the exercises Troops from the Achkaerin army arrived back home today having taken part in military exercises with Achkaerin's JSF partners in Verover, in a surprise move the commander of Achkaerin's military forces Field Marshall Sally Leonidas chose to travel to Verover to personally observe the exercises. SENATE MAKES HISTORY There was history in the Senate today as the body approved plans for nationalization of sports, the historic moment was that the vote was carried with 499 votes in favour, none against and no abstentions a unanimous vote. After the result was announced Princess Serenity Azurewind put her signature to the bill effectively giving the assent required. Speaking after the cheers had faded Minister of Sport Senator George Foley said "I didn't expect it to be quite like this, I had a strong feeling we'd be able to get it through but I didn't think it'd be unanimous. But we've seen what our athletes can achieve on limited funding let's see how they can do when we fund them from the national treasury. The suggestion is that in the wake of this being brought into law that sports such as football (soccer), rugby, basketball, netball, cricket and baseball will be rolled out into national competitions seasons have not yet been determined that is to be decided by the Achkaerin National Sporting Association which is created as a result of the law brought in today. ARMED FORCES ON STANDBY It is understood that three companies of the Imperial Army and several ASF squads have been put on alert for possible deployment, There have also been recall orders for around a third of the Imperial Navy and an increase in patrol flights of the Achkaerin Air Force. CULTURAL EXCHANGE TREATY ORGANISATION COMES TO ACHKAERIN Following the signing of the Cultural Exchange Treaty the wheels of the Cultural Exchange Treaty Organisation established by the treaty have been set into motion the chair of the organisation is on a yearly rotating basis in alphabetical order and as luck would have it the first nation to have the honour of chairing this new organisation is our very own Achkaerin. RIVIERE CORPORATION POSTS RECORD PROFITS  Riviere Corporation today posted a record profit of 12.5 million Iso's for the last year, the corporation probably best known for its status as the sole supplier of equipment and vehicles to the Achkaerin military was seen as on course earlier in the year for a more substantial profit than this however rumors concerning the origin of weapons used by the terrorist group known as the Borland Separatists have curbed the profit margin somewhat. SPECIAL SPORTS EDITION FOXES HUNT DOWN VEROVER Achkaerin 27 - 18 Verover substitute Matthew Sadler after scoring his try Coach David Nightingale called for a cauldron of noise in the build up to the game against Verover at Achkaerin National Sports Complex and he certainly got it. It was a tightly fought contest with Achkaerin scoring two first half tries thanks to a catch and drive finished off by Oscar Reynolds under the posts and quick ball work allowing Simon Colt to dive over the line both were converted by Jason Leonidas in overtime at the end of the first half Luke Wiltshire put a drop goal over to take the Foxes total to 17 at the break. But as has been said we have three teams in this race and we've got 20 people on each team so there are 60 of us. Q: So when do you head for the start? JP: The crews fly out to the UNP tomorrow the three yachts are already on their way there arriving a few days before the start allows us to check the yacht's for damage in transit, to check the local weather forecasts, check the topography and apply it to strategy... TC: And hopefully size up the opposition. Q: And after that? EH: Once the race starts we have two weeks to make it from the start line in the UNP to Dijel for the first local race, that first two weeks is probably going to be spent doing nothing other than getting used to the way the yacht's handle and adapting to life aboard, since we'll be sailing close to several countries on that first stretch if anything does go wrong help can be on site quickly, it's when we head out into the Sea of Kyne towards the Krimeon Sea that this race will begin in earnest. KING DAVID III LIVES There's an air of vindication around the Valtheim Plateau today, as a video showing King David III of East Moreland went viral, the King clearly shown to be alive appears to now be making moves to retake his throne. Emperor Peter Azurewind in the aftermath of the video becoming public knowledge stated "Normally the Achkaerin government isn't the sort of government that would say we told you so, but in this case well I'll leave it to your imaginations." this remark prompted quite a lot of laughter from the assembled press. SAFRAEN SITUATION WHAT WILL BECOME OF THEM There has been some concern over suggestions made recently that the countries involved in Safraen including Achkaerin should take a proportion of the refugee's. This has resulted in such things as events in Elpidia, Consul Michael Williams has stated- "The concern of the citizens is understandable since we do not yet have control over the virus, but no one is about to allow anyone to leave Safraen until they are given a clean bill of health. We are committed to the mission we have undertaken in Safraen and we are prepared to accept refugee's from the nation as and when it becomes necessary." SPORTS NEWS The Fox's lost their Confederation Cup match against Dijel by three points to nothing. It was a stop start game with the defenses cancelling each other out, an opportunistic drop goal did for the Achkaerin team in the end though. The team next faces the sternest test of them all in the match against East Moreland, it is expected that the Achkaerin National Sports Association will request that due to circumstances inside East Moreland and the ill feeling towards Achkaerin by the Prince Regent that the game be moved either to be played in Achkaerin or on neutral territory. SAFRAEN SITUATION RAISES EYEBROWS The situation in Safraen continues, it is now believed that USR troops in addition to those of Achkaerin, Aeternum, Dijel and East Moreland are in the city of Polau discussing the current state of play. The eyebrow raising as come from declarations of two successor states the Republic of Safraen and the Socialist State of Safraen, this has led to international attention and various claims being made, it is believed that high level meetings between concerned states will be taking place in East Moreland at some point in the near future. It is expected that issues highlighted at earlier times concerning Safraen will be discussed along with recent developments. No one in the government was available to comment on the situation so it's not known what the view on either successor state is. SPORTS NEWS It was an emotional weekend in the Confederation Cup, the Fox's traveled to East Moreland where after receiving a completely unexpected rapturous welcome they played out a tight game with the Honey Badgers eventually losing but it was a very spirited performance. ROYALS FLY TO EAST MORELAND Emperor Peter Azurewind and his wife Iona Azurewind the Duchess of Valtheim Emperor Peter Azurewind and his wife Iona today departed for East Moreland to attend a conference on the future of Safraen. Also in attendance for Achkaerin will be the commander of Achkaerin armed forces Field Marshall Sally Leonidas. The conference is expected to cover all matters concerning the current military and humanitarian operations in Safraen and also the issues regarding territory which will involve the successor states claims. The Achkaerin government has not yet recognized either the Republic of Safraen or the Socialist State of Safraen. However the issue is expected to dominate proceedings at Emperor's questions in the Senate a session where Princess Serenity will represent her father. FOX'S STEAL THIRD ACHKAERIN 19 - 10 NDAMBIA The last day of play in the Confederation Cup wasn't just a roller coaster ride in Northfort for the title decider but also in the other two matches where third place would be decided. In Valtheim Ndambia went into half time ten points to seven ahead Achkaerin's try coming from Luke Wiltshire's try converted by the ever reliable Jason Leonidas. After half time Achkaerin came out fighting and went back to playing their style of rugby in short the kicking game, a penalty from Jason Leonidas pulled Achkaerin level on the 60th minute and put them three points ahead in the 66th minute in the same fashion. The critical moment came in the 85th minute captain Tovan Holtz playing at scrum half recycled the ball to Oscar Reynolds before it was laid back to substitute fly half Ralph Kendal who executed a drop goal putting them six points ahead. Jason Leonidas added a further penalty in the last minute to complete the scoring. After the match we talked to coach David Nightingale- "When Ralph made the drop goal I committed the cardinal sin in that I immediately looked at the COR Verover game it was 19-3 to the COR so we needed another score at that point hence why I was still urging them on to get that one more score. Fortunately Verover also scored late so the extra points we got were just gloss on a well honed performance, what's important to me is that in all our games whether we won or lost we played our style of rugby and that's what matters." TENSION IN ILLUMIC CHANNEL Fleet Admiral David Jackson, Commander of the Imperial Navy Tensions over the Illumic Channel have come to the fore in the last day or so with the nations of Kaiser Adolf and Seaforth effectively blockading the narrows of the channel off to military traffic, this has caused widespread condemnation from the international community especially from CSTO nations who this measure seems to have been directed towards- it comes after the CSTO announced plans to fortify an island within Elpidian territory. CHARLES HANE CHARGED Today the Achkaerin Counter Terrorism team investigating the smuggling of Achkaerin arms into East Moreland where they were used by the Borland Separatists today closed down Hunter inc, a former leading weapons manufacturer this action came only hours before they charged Charles Hane with various offences including conspiracy to commit acts of terror, illegal arms dealing, fraud and identity theft. With the closing down of Hunter inc all Achkaerin weaponry is now developed and manufactured by Riviere Corporation who have very stringent checking procedures. When explaining how Charles Hane ended up in ACT custody Agent Jack Sullivan explained that the ASF had lifted him out of Safraen following the fall of that state in order to obtain information regarding the arms smuggling. It is expected that East Moreland will request the extradition of Charles Hane as soon as is practical. ILLUMIC BLOCKADE OVER WHAT FUTURE ON THE SEAS? FOX'S EDGE OUT ELPIDIA Achkaerin 2-1 Elpidia Tonight saw the first game for Achkaerin in the IFFA World Cup, playing Elpidia at Northpoint Football Arena in Floodwater in what turned out to be a tough game, Julia McCabe stuck to her guns and set out her expected 3-5-2 formation leading to a midfield battle. The Fox's eventually took the lead in the 66th minute when Captain Robert Kinnay (celebrating above) took his chance when space opened up to fire home from 20 yards. Achkaerin's second came in the 84th minute when they caught Elpidia on the counter with substitute Tom Oakleigh slotting home from 12 yards. Although Elpidia added a late consolation it didn't take the shine off a great first performance that leaves Achkaerin top of their group. POLITICAL SHIFTS IN EAST MORELAND Today the new Prime Minister of East Moreland Mr Harry Samuelson appeared on East Moreland television and appeared to state his support for a form of politics similar to that of the Achkaerin Political Model an independent legislative government without political parties. CIS HQ NOW IN ACHKAERIN Following the departure of Verover from the Confederation of Independent States (CIS) and the subsequent closure of the CIS headquarters there, the organisation has been discussing a new home and today it was announced that the new home of the CIS is in fact in Leonaise. It may seem odd for an international organisation to be based in the sport loving city of Leonaise but the more relaxed attitude of the city may be to the organisation's benefit. Leonaise withstood strong competition from Highmoor in East Moreland and Ephebe in Dijel before winning a run off vote against a bid from Picton in the Central Ossario Republic. Achkaerin's ambassador to the CIS has promised that should the other ambassadors, their staff or families wish to experience Leonaise or anywhere else in Achkaerin then they will be well looked after and that if they're football fans he can get them season tickets for Leonaise F.C next season. FOX'S ON THE BRINK Achkaerin 3 - 2 Quinntopia Striker Dani Leonidas celebrates his winning goal It was a dramatic night in Tytor for the Achkaerin national football team, playing a Quinntopia team that was going full force, twice the Fox's trailed going 1-0 down early on before going into halftime 2-1 behind with Achkaerin's goal in the first half coming from James Kazmeirczek. In the second half came the fightback a sweetly struck free kick from Cesc Santiago pulled Achkaerin level at 2-2 before in the dying minutes Dani Leonidas pounced on a loose pass to run through and fire home to send thousands of travelling Achkaerin fans into jubilation. This result keeps Achkaerin top of their group on six points and crucially only a single point short of a place in the quarter finals however if Quinntopia fail to beat Elpidia in the next group game the Fox's will be through regardless of what happens in their last two games. After tonights game we talked to manager Julia McCabe who gave the following statement- "This is unbelievable, we thought things couldn't get any better after we beat Elpidia against the odds, but back we came as the underdogs again tonight and we were given a very thorough examination by the runners up of the last World Cup we were found wanting at times in defence but as the game went on we were able to impose our style on the game, our tempo and once we were able to shut down their central midfield we looked on for a draw which I'd have taken but I never thought we'd see a finish like that... We won't get too carried away we know the equation now we've got a healthy points and goal advantage so now we go and finish the job and get out of this group." HAPPY 2205th BIRTHDAY ACHKAERIN Yesterday the 6th of June marked unification day, essentially the nations birthday since it corresponds to the day that Titus Achkaerin was crowned the first emperor of the Holy Empire of Achkaerin thus uniting the six states of Valtheim, Valkyrian Coast, Artaxia, Solaria, West Water and Dovah under a single banner. A carnival atmosphere engulfed the nation as the people took to the streets waving banners, singing old folk songs and dancing. In Valtheim a service of thanksgiving for the nation was held at Valtheim cathedral. A statement by Emperor Peter Azurewind was also broadcast on television and radio- "My fellow citizens of Achkaerin, today our nation celebrates its 2205th birthday we have overcome many obstacles in our history but we have overcome them as one, On this day 2205 years ago The Lunar Star our nations crown was placed for the first time on a monarchs head that monarch was Titus Achkaerin the man whose sword forged our great nation, I am privileged that I can count both him and our nations other great hero Djana Azurewind in my ancestry. However today does not belong just to the great people of the past it belongs to all citizens of Achkaerin whether here or abroad. FOX'S INTO LAST EIGHT Achkaerin 2-2 Elpidia Cesc Santiago shoots what would be the equalizing goal The wild ride of the IFFA World Cup in Tytor is to continue for Achkaerin's Fox's after a 2-2 draw with Elpidia gave them seven points and an unassailable position at the top of Group A, this means the Achkaerin progresses to the quarter final stage. Earlier in the group stages Achkaerin had beaten Elpidia 2-1 in a match widely regarded as a shock result this time it was a much more closely fought contest. The Fox's took the lead through a Peter Adams header from a corner halfway through the first half but after the break Elpidia came back into it leveling with an unstoppable shot before taking the lead with fifteen minutes to go. However there was one last twist in store as Cesc Santiago fired home from 18 yards only four minutes later to send all the travelling Achkaerin fans into raptures, the remainder of the game was played out in a battle of attrition in midfield. After the game we spoke to manager Julia McCabe who had the following to say- "First I apologize for the fact that I'm drenched the players just ambushed me with sports drinks. We came here tonight wanting the victory because that's the way we play. If we'd played for the draw we'd have probably lost the game tonight but we never gave in, we went two one down and we never gave in, the players got their heads up and went one more time and when you have that sort of attitude then you deserve what you get and for us it was the goal that puts us through. There's still one game left in the group and we know the implications of it so we'll be fair about it we'll go and try to beat Quinntopia because it wouldn't be fair on Elpidia for us to field a weakened team just because we're through. LIGHTNING POWER? Today Future Energy Industries unveiled it's latest clean energy idea in the hopes of sealing off the blind spot of it's proud Triad system which if this works will likely no longer be the Triad system but the Diamond system. The idea involves building skyscraper shaped power stations which it is understood will essentially be giant electrical generators designed to transform lightning into electrical power obviously this has the same flaw as other renewable energy forms in that they only operate under specific circumstances but it has been stressed that all weather is now covered with this idea. FOX'S REACH SEMI FINALS Achkaerin 2-1 Tytor Rory Doherty scores the winner against hosts Tytor to put Achkaerin into the last four Achkaerin's football team continues to surpass all expectations in the IFFA World Cup this time knocking out tournament hosts Tytor. The Fox's had actually fallen behind early on to a deflected shot but then they settled and began to play their football. The equalizer came from Dani Leonidas in the 67th minute courtesy of a spot kick however all the fans, players and coaching staff would be made to sweat until the very end of the match for a winner to be decided, a through ball from Anders Asamoah was flicked through by striker James Kazmeirczek for wide midfielder Rory Doherty to slot home to win the match. The Fox's now face Blue Shadow who have been scoring goals for fun throughout the tournament. After the game Julia McCabe the Fox's manager gave the following statement "I suddenly feel like I'm the villain of the peace because we knocked Tytor out of their own party, it was a closely fought game played with a great level of respect between both sets of players. I do feel sorry for the way in which the penalty was conceded it was a slightly late tackle and with the ball gone it was never in doubt. That changed the flow of the game in that from then on we always looked the more likely to win it. I congratulate the Tytor manager and his players on a fine performance they have represented their country well. PRINCESS SERENITY IN DARTFORDIA Princess Serenity Azurewind is currently attending the Conference on Universal Rights taking place in Littlebrook, Dartfordia. It is the first visit by an Achkaerin royal to the country although it is believed that the Conference is "currently passing through rough waters" to quote the exact phrase used by the Princess when asked for comment during the lunch adjournment earlier today, she wouldn't specify exactly what the problem was but according to international news reports circulating on the matter it is believed that several nations are having trouble with articles concerning same sex marriage and changing gender. When asked for comment on this Princess Serenity merely stated that "This is a declaration of universal human rights, that's what we're trying to achieve here but it cannot be that if we refuse to recognize the LGBT community in it." PRINCESS SERENITY KIDNAPPED BY BORLANDERS  Princess Serenity and Lydia Daniels Today we bring the dreadful news that Princess Serenity Azurewind has been kidnapped. The princess was returning home from Dartfordia having just signed the Declaration of Universal Rights when it is believed that the terrorists known as the Borland Separatists staged a daring mid air hijack of the Princess's aircraft Vixen One, around four and a half hours later the Princess was seen in a regular broadcast of the Borlanders made by the Free Mundus Network it is not known at this point where the Princess is but it is known that her aide Lydia Daniels is also missing. The CJSA has been investigating as much as it can considering the current global situation. The comments made by the international community have been warmly received and thoughts and prayers of the people of Achkaerin will continue to remain with the royal family. FOXES OUT Achkaerin 0 - 2 Blue Shadow Achkaerin's football team bowed out of the IFFA World Cup with a two nil defeat to Blue Shadow, despite the defeat in what was a close game with a few controversial decisions the mood of the team was upbeat in that they'd progressed much further than was expected before the tournament and while there are many fans who were looking forward to a potential final it cannot be disputed that the attractive football played by the Foxes has won them many fans among the neutrals and stands them in good stead for future competitions. PRINCESS SERENITY HOME SAFE AND SOUND Late last night in a live statement Consul Michael Williams confirmed that Princess Serenity Azurewind and Lydia Daniels have been rescued in a joint operation carried out by Achkaerin Special Forces, Aeternum Special Forces and East Moreland's Red Legion. Operational details are obviously not available at this time due to security reasons but the investigation into the hijack itself is still ongoing and is being carried out by the CJSA. Princess Serenity is in good health and was not badly harmed during her ordeal, the royal family has requested that the press keep their distance for a few days before they start asking questions about what happened due to the possibility of psychological trauma. As for the Princess's schedule she is apparently still intending to attend the wedding in East Moreland. |

Z KENNEDY BURNS RUBBER IN THE HEAT TO MAKE HISTORY  (Left- Z Kennedy (1st), right- Z Kennedy overtakes Nikodim Krupin for the lead, below- Megan Harrison (6th) History was made in Formula Mundus today at the Aeternumese grand prix where Z Kennedy of Riviere Corporation Racing known to Formula Mundus fans as RCR took the chequered flag this was not only RCR's first victory of the season and its history but it also marked something more significant Z became the first woman (just she is 20 years old) to win a Formula Mundus grand prix. Unova was the back drop for this moment of history but no one would have thought it possible on the starting grid with Z lining up 6th and her team mate Megan Harrison all the way down in 9th but as the race unfolded in the blistering heat something seemed to be clicking with the RCR cars as by lap 10 Z was up to third place behind Nikodim Krupin of Quinntopia Racing and QAS's Ariel Singleton who were running first and second respectively lying fourth was Megan. Singleton's challenge would fade just after the first round of pit stops while an unfortunate puncture would rob Megan of the chance to challenge for the win herself, leaving a straight fight between Z and Nikodim for the win. Fifteen laps from the finish down into turn two Z made her move positioning for an overtake on the inside and then running it around the outside of three to take the lead from the championship leader, but this wasn't over yet for ten more laps Nikodim would harry, probe and charge trying to reclaim the lead until Steve Thompson of team Crack-Cola caught up with the pair and started to challenge for second, with Nikodim driving defensively at times Z was able to scamper away and win the race by a margin of 12 seconds. After the race our sports correspondent talked to the winner who had this to say. "This doesn't feel real, it could be the heat that's getting to me but that was without doubt the hardest thing I've ever done. We knew fairly early in the race that we were in good shape here with our car looking after its tires better than most of those ahead of us so we were able to pick our way through the field we knew that when Niko pitted for the second time we had to maximize everything we had left in the car and we did which brought us out close behind him and gave us a chance." On the decisive overtake- "I knew I had to get him in the early stages of the lap because all weekend the Quinntopia car has been quicker down the straights especially the long ones at the beginning and end of the lap, we don't have that level of straight line speed but we have good aerodynamics and excellent cornering so I figured if I could get him early on in the lap and then use the technical section of the circuit to pull away I could protect the lead since he'd always close up on the straights." This sporting success adds yet another unexpected golden moment to what has already been a successful year for Achkaerin sports- unexpected success at the I.O Summer Games, third in the CIS Confederation Cup, IFFA World Cup Semi Finalists (and winning plenty of fans along the way) and now Z's victory in Unova. LET THE GAMES BEGIN!!! Tonight saw the opening ceremony to the first I.O Winter Games, taking place in Valkyria Achkaerin. The stadium holding the ceremony was sold out and the ceremony certainly lived up to expectations with traditional Achkaerin dancing, some excerpts from plays, Alchemy Naismith performing her current chart topping hit and to cap it all the official opening address delivered by Princess Serenity. In her address the Princess clad casually in a pair of Jeans and an Achkaerin ice hockey shirt talked off the symbolic nature that these games in particular had coming so soon after a conflict that had threatened to engulf all of Mundus she talked of these games as a chance of rebuilding in the aftermath, a source at the Marble Palace claims that was the point of her address was trying to make. It is hoped that noted world leaders may take the opportunity to visit the games and watch some of the competition so that the hoped for legacy of these games can be firmly established. The first day of competition tomorrow sees the focus on the Alpine skiing with Thomradia, Dominiscius and Severina hotly tipped for success, although for Achkaerin fans all eyes will be on the curling when that gets underway tomorrow morning. Throughout the competition a daily highlights program will be broadcast so no one need miss a thing. |

STEADY START FOR TEAM ACHKAERIN Nina Dixon (left) and Penny Harper (right) sweep for skip Melanie Stewart in Achkaerin's women's curling match against Thomradia. The first day of competition at the I.O Winter Games in Valkyria threw up plenty of surprises with unexpected medals being won on the slopes. Achkaerin's best performance on the slope was a fourth place in the women's super combined narrowly missing out on a bronze medal. The curling brought better results as the Achkaerin men narrowly saw off Quinntopia and then fought a highly contested draw with Dijel. The women's curlers fared well to by beating Thomradia. In the ice hockey the Achkaerin men otherwise known as the Snow Foxes won their game against Zararus 3-2 with a splendid defensive performance in the third period, while the women known as the Snow Vixens also won their game by a 3-2 scoreline with victory against Dartfordia a comeback from a two goal deficit at the end of the first period. So all in all no medals but a steady start to the competition. Team Achkaerin will hope to break their medals duck in the Biathlon but with fiercely competitive rivals notably East Moreland expected to dominate proceedings on the second day it will be a tough task. MEDALS AT WINTER GAMES Danielle Silver celebrates winning Achkaerin's first gold of the games The second day of competition at the winter games focused in terms of medals on the biathlon there were fairly low expectations for Team Achkaerin in this event given that it is not one of their specialty's but something special was in the offing as first in the Men's 12.5km pursuit Harry Peters brought home bronze chasing an East Moreland one two across the line. Then came the moment that will dominate the back pages of Achkaerin newspapers for tomorrow, Danielle Silver nicknamed the silver comet brought the first gold to Achkaerin by winning the women's 15km Individual event. She gave the following as her reaction- "I felt good coming into the race I knew I was a long shot for a medal because let's face it all the other favourites are a lot bigger than me with a longer stride but I was able to stay with the leading group and I shot perfectly, coming out of the last shoot I was still with them and this crowd is worth so much extra energy it's incredible. I couldn't believe it when I started to pull away from the Thomradian on the downhill section nor when I crossed the line to win I don't even think it's sunk in yet. What it comes down to though is that we needed this, we needed to get some momentum started and this gold might just do that." And that wasn't to be the last time that the Achkaerin anthem would be heard at a medal ceremony today as not long after Danielle had brought home Achkaerin's first gold Jessica Hutchinson added the second by winning the Women's 12.5km Mass Start biathlon event. In other events the curling teams continued their good form the men won both their matches narrowly defeating Saint Monterrey before easily seeing off Great Jonothania, while the women thrashed Dijel before they narrowly beat Seaforth keeping both teams on track for qualification to the medal rounds. In the ice hockey it was the Snow Foxes day off so the Snow Vixen's took centre stage in Angel's Arena winning their match with Caelidia 6-2 with Jennifer Bell and captain Britney Cooper grabbing two goals each with Dana Hewitt and Leah Donald the other scorers. EMPEROR PETER STATEMENT ABOUT BORLAND Tonight we bring you a live statement from the Emperor concerning recent activities related to and as a result of Borland- "Ladies and Gentlemen let me be clear firstly about what I actually recognized, firstly I recognized that the rock in the Mhorish Sea was owned by Borlanders since it was done in the normal way of money changing hands and is the accepted method of property transfer in many countries throughout Mundus it was acceptable to do so, however it is only the land I have recognized that I believe formulates part of Borland- claims such as Northfort being the capital of Borland I strongly reject since I believe Northfort to be the capital of East Moreland just as I believe that Princess Joanna is the High Priestess of the cult of Helus not this apparent replacement that the Borlanders have appointed. I have recognized that Kyle Barren is the leader of the Borlanders to not do so would be to deny the obvious, this does not mean that I want to personally have anything to do with the man for reasons concerning my daughter of course. However as an experienced monarch on the world stage I feel obliged to teach him a most important lesson- The lesson is one he should be familiar with you cannot have it both ways. PRINCESS SERENITY IN HOSPITAL Achkaerin's heir to the throne Princess Serenity was this afternoon admitted to the Royal Valtheim hospital for what has been termed surgical treatment, a spokesperson from the Marble palace released a statement on the Princess's behalf explaining that the procedure was something that had been discussed for a while and that it was to do with a blood disorder the Princess suffers from- Aplastic Anemia. With permission from the Princess the doctor leading the treatment Maddy Dale addressed reporters massing outside the hospital with the following- "Let's be clear this is a routine procedure called a stem cell transplant we'll start by giving Serenity a powerful single dose of chemotherapy and then administer the new stem cells through an IV, naturally this procedure brings with it risks but the Princess is young and healthy both in body and mind she is more than ably equipped to survive this. Regular updates will be provided but we would ask for her privacy to be respected especially during the recovery period." MORE SUCCESS ON THE SNOW There was more success at the Winter Games today, more surprising success in fact as Team Achkaerin won the women's biathlon relay picking up from where they left off yesterday in fact, leading off was Martina Loch then on the second leg Jasmine "Jazz" Carter took the pace up a notch and thinned the field out, the third leg by the winner of the women's mass start Jessica Hutchinson proved decisive as she surged clear with only the Thomradian biathlete able to live with the pace, the final leg by Silver Comet Danielle Silver was flawless in that she broke away early and never looked back bringing Achkaerin the win by a massive 45 seconds. BLADES OF GOLD In the latest day of competition at the Winter Games eyes were on the figure skating with Achkaerin skaters tipped to do well and they weren't disappointed as in the women's singles competition Melissa Cooper (pictured above) came away with the gold medal after a dramatic performance she was the last skater to go and according to what she said afterwards this made her even more nervous. However the best was yet to come from her because she then teamed up with Samuel Herman to take the pairs gold medal their performance was to Levar's famous piece Crossed Fates a powerful orchestral piece that tells of the duel between Caleb Elsif and Djana Azurewind with the future of Achkaerin on the line and that was how the pair skated it each playing their part, taking to heart not just the fight itself but the rumored romantic feelings between the two fighters. These two gold medals put Achkaerin into third place in the medal table behind Thomradia in second with East Moreland topping the table it would seem that the team is riding the momentum, but this is no doubt a day that Melissa Cooper one of the poster girls for these games will remember. MORE WINTER GAMES SUCCESS Temari Shirou in the final stages of the women's 1500 metres The Ice Colosseum took centre stage today as the focus of the games shifted to the short track speed skating, an Achkaerin speciality. Two medals were forthcoming both won by Temari Shirou first she took the gold in the women's 1000 metres before coming back to the track an hour later to win the gold in her main event the 1500 metres as an added bonus she won in a time of 2:20.683 three seconds clear of second place but also a second and a half faster than the previous Achkaerin national record set by Felicity Stewart. The 1500 metres was in the main a close race with many surges until finally with three hundred metres to go Temari was able to go clear and win. Afterwards she spoke to us- "That was always going to be a tough final, me against three girls from East Moreland in a straight fight and before we forget East Moreland have dominated today in this arena I wasn't sure how I'd fare especially with them using team tactics to try and break me but I stayed with them, I skated my own race and with three hundred to go I got a great curve and started to move away and they just didn't seem able to live with the pace. So that's two down and tomorrow I go for the hat trick in the 3000 metres relay." In other Winter Games news tomorrow sees a day of destiny for the young female curling rink led by Melanie Stewart (pictured above) when they go for gold against Dartfordia having beaten UNP to earn that right today, while the men go for bronze against East Moreland. The atmosphere in the arena is likely to be electric and all sports fans will be glued to their televisions watching both matches. |

GOLDEN TOUCH The Achkaerin women's curling team celebrate their gold It was a strong showing for team Achkaerin at the Winter Games with attention focused on the curling, the men managed to claim the bronze medal by beating East Moreland but then came the women's gold medal match featuring what was to prove a clash of the titans as Achkaerin and Dartfordia faced off it went all the way to the final stone of the final end but Achkaerin emerged victorious by a score of 7-6. Melanie Stewart the teams skip gave the following reaction- "This is unbelievable it hasn't sunk in yet I mean it was tough they took three on us in the first end against the hammer but we didn't give up we got back level and then fell one behind after eight so we opted to blank the ninth and try to finish it in the tenth which we were able to do. On that last stone I just stayed down even as the girls swept it in I just had to hope it had the pace to hit and stop in time to take the two we wanted." The other medal of the day for Achkaerin was in the short track program as the women's 3000 metre relay team brought home the gold, this leaves Achkaerin in second place on the medals table with only East Moreland higher than them but with their specialist events all over the coaching staff aren't getting too carried away about their chances of taking top spot from their closest friends and fiercest rivals. |

ACHKAERIN FORCES ON ALERT In response to the USR led invasion of Meche earlier today Achkaerin's armed forces have been placed on their highest level of alert meaning that deployment orders are expected to be imminent in fact it is believed that orders have already been issued to the Imperial Navy as ships were seen leaving Silver Fox Harbour early this evening it is understood that they were heading for the area north of Meche and that they will serve initially in conjunction with East Moreland forces that have been redeployed to the Republic of Safraen. ACHKAERIN AT WAR Hours ago the Rokkenjiman ultimatum to the USR in regards to the situation in Meche expired, shortly following that expiration Emperor Peter Azurewind upheld his word repeating that a line has been drawn in the sand this time, he also echoed Rokkejiman sentiments that a repeat of the atrocity's in Themata and Safraen would not be tolerated any further. However it has also been stated by the Achkaerin military that this will not be as easy as some observers may think, the USR forces are great in number valuing quantity over quality as opposed to the Achkaerin doctrine of quality over quantity. Once more for the audience of doubt the Holy Empire of Achkaerin has entered into a state of war with the USR. There are also reports of deployments alongside fellow CIS soldiers in Safraen. FANTASY END TO WINTER GAMES Skipper Jennifer Bell scoring the winning goal in Over Time against Quinntopia in the Women's Ice Hockey Gold Medal Match The Winter Games in Valkyria came to an end with a dream like finish in the women's ice hockey, Achkaerin's Snow Vixen's defeated Quinntopia 5-4 after Over Time to win the gold medal, they fought back from an early two goal deficit to dominate the scoring in the second and third periods before getting their chance in Over Time where on the breakaway their captain Jennifer Bell fired home from close range to bring the loudest cheers of the day around the Angel's Arena. Team Achkaerin throughout the competition racked up a total of twenty three medals, eleven were gold eight were silver and four were bronze- meaning that Achkaerin finishes third in the medal table overall trailing behind Quinntopia and East Moreland. SAFRAEN OFFENSIVE UNDER WAY An Achkaerin Hoplite tank advances across a bridge earlier this morning At 11pm Safraen time yesterday the combined forces of the Republic of Safraen and the CIS coalition launched an invasion of the Soviet half of Safraen. The offensive has been launched in response to an outbreak of a newly developed Kaiju virus strain in the Soviet half of the country- given the Soviet's response to this virus the first time around there was no question of leaving the treatment to them this time. The offensive began with airstrikes and long range bombardment against key targets followed by advances made by ground troops, Achkaerin forces are reported to be focusing their military efforts in Naidenschnell province where they have yet to meet credible resistance. Field Marshall Sally Leonidas, commander of Achkaerin's armed forces gave the following statement- "This offensive was not something entered into lightly the outbreak is cause enough for involvement but also the continued USR aggression in Meche is reliant in part on a sustained flank from Soviet Safraen so this offensive if successful should aid the Mechean forces fighting the USR. Our priority in these early hours is to secure pre-determined locations of strategic importance thus establishing a perimeter within the Soviet half that can act as a buffer zone, when dawn comes to Soviet Safraen we hope to be in a reasonably strong position. The lack of opposition is a slight concern this could be due to the Meche campaign or it could be that there is a greater stratagem at work here that we are not yet aware of but one thing is clear we cannot, no we must not allow the Kaiju virus out of Soviet Safraen this is not about waging a war with the Soviets, this is not even mainly about reuniting Safraen although that is a lovely consequence of this action. SPECIAL BIRTHDAY EDITION PRINCESS SERENITY TURNS SIXTEEN  Serenity celebrating her birthday with 'Party Manager' Alexander Anselmo, Emperor of Rokkenjima, (Special thanks to the Empress of Rokkenjima for taking the picture) Today is a momentous day for Achkaerin's Royal family, Princess Serenity's sixteenth birthday this event sees her exchange her title of Princess for Crown Princess, at least officially speaking, unofficially she'll still be referred to as Princess. The only difference is that if something, heaven's forbid, were to happen to Emperor Peter Azurewind that rendered him incapable of ruling the Empire then Serenity would be able to take over immediately instead of Duchess of Valtheim Iona Azurewind having to serve as regent until Serenity reached the appropriate age. The occasion has been marked with celebrations across the country and a special party at the Marble Palace attended by many close friends of the Royal family including King David and Queen Matilda of East Moreland something which surprised many observers since relations between Achkaerin and East Moreland are currently strained somewhat over the Borland issue. REACTION TO VEROVAN WAR CRIMES: MILITARY STATEMENT  Field Marshall Sally Leonidas during today's press conference Earlier today Emperor Peter Azurewind issued a statement concerning actions of troops from Verover in the operations currently underway in Soviet Safraen. For those viewers who are not aware there is evidence that Verovan forces executed Soviet POW's therefore making this a war crime. In his statement the Emperor said that a military statement would be released at some point today, that statement was given moments ago by Achkaerin's military commander Field Marshall Sally Leonidas (pictured above)-
Field Marshall Leonidas then proceeded to answer questions pertaining to the consequences the Verovan actions might have on the conflict in Soviet Safraen, especially considering the humanitarian aspect since it is now expected that the number of refugee's who will flee into CIS controlled territory will decrease.  Yes that's right folks, Achkaerin's citizens finally have a sports channel. IO CHAMPIONS LEAGUE DRAW The draw for the first I.O Champions League was made earlier today the four Achkaerin teams who will be participating in the competition are Leonaise F.C, Avalon F.C, Valtheim United and Djana-Ville Wanderers. Leonaise F.C find themselves in group five where they will face Northfort Royals from East Moreland, F.C Dawson from Valnara and TaG from Togatopia. Avalon F.C are in group one where they will face Togari's Nethertopia United, Emancipa United from Quinntopia and Ex'Litan Spiders from Meche. Valtheim United will contend with Dijelibeybi F.C from Dijel, Dartfordia's Hartchester United and Cascatopia F.C from Quinntopia in group four. Djana-Ville Wanderers are in group eight with Nakkon'mar Melok Warriors from Meche, Toga United from Togatopia and Portwatch City from East Moreland. For an overview of the various chances of the teams in the competition we asked the Achkaerin national team manager Julia McCabe who gave the following response- "Whenever it's the first time something's been done it's always difficult to call. Obviously when you look at recent international form you can see the way certain styles measure up against each other, Quinntopia stands atop the international rankings so the four Quinntopian teams should be strong competitors but with the favorites tag comes an awful lot of pressure. There are also teams that I've not watched before playing in this competition which adds a little more spice to the mix. As for the chances of the four Achkaerin teams I would suggest that the fans don't get too carried away yes at the last World Cup we made it to the semi finals, yes in the group stages we beat the top two ranked teams in the world Elpidia and Quinntopia to win that group, yes we knocked out the hosts while we were at it as well. TRINITY PROJECT TAKES SHAPE Still taken from a computer run simulation of the mission Today the Achkaerin Space Agency finally revealed the project they've been working on for months in conjunction with the already known Asgard space station project today they released details of the Trinity Project. This project is to be Achkaerin's first manned mission into space. Broadly speaking the mission involves chasing a comet, getting close enough to place a sophisticated remote controlled drone vehicle on it to collect samples and then retrieving the said samples by having the drone disengage from the comet. Such a special mission demands a new type of spacecraft design so the media were also introduced to the Trinity One Spacecraft (pictured above) the mission once launched in a few months time is expected to take a while owing to the various logistical parts of the mission. Competition for a place on the four person astronaut team is thought to be high.  RIVIERE CORPORATION FORGES AHEAD: MANAGING DIRECTOR'S VISION Rivere Corporation's Managing Director Catriona Rowan On the business front Riviere Corporation today announced exciting news in a press conference the Corporation's Managing Director Catriona Rowan (pictured above) announced that the Corporation had been accepted onto the site of the new International Trade Centre in Exuperia, Rokkenjima. Ms Rowan holds the position of Managing Director due to the incapacity of the current CEO who is in a long term coma, Ms Rowan believes "That this expansion is in the corporation's best interests given that having a branch of the corporation in such a location will greatly increase our business opportunities furthermore having part of what we've asked for being used as an extension of the Riviere Corporation Technology College can also help inspire the next generation of engineers, scientists, doctors and theorists." EXCELLENT START FOR ACHKAERIN TEAMS Danni Leonidas scores the winner for Leonaise F.C against TaG F.C The first round of I.O Champions League fixtures proved to be a good night for the Achkaerin teams. First Valtheim United won away at Dijelibeybi F.C by a 1-0 margin the goal coming from a James Kazmeirczak volley. At the Leonaise Arena the national champions Leonaise F.C continued the trend for the night with a 1-0 victory over TaG F.C of Togatopia with Danni Leonidas scoring with a snapshot in the 66th minute. The Djana-Ville Wanderers fought out a dull 0-0 draw with Nakkon'mar Melok Warriors of Meche. Despite the result however the best action was to be found at Coral Park where Avalon F.C played out an intense and electrifying 0-0 draw with Emancipa United from Quinntopia such was the level of performance that both sides were loudly applauded off the field at the full time whistle.  VEROVAN TROOPS OPEN FIRE ON ACHKAERIN FORCES In what has been considered an unthinkable development to the situation in Soviet Safraen Verovan forces have reportedly opened fire on Seaforth and Achkaerin forces, casualty reports are not known at this time but family's of those soldiers deployed to Soviet Safraen have been advised to prepare themselves for the worst. There has been outrage throughout the CIS to this news with many calling for decisive action to be taken against Verover. Tensions are also rumoured to be high in the CIS building in Leonaise over this development with the Verovan council representative confirmed as being on leave for a few days, there are also suggestions that the other Verovan staff will shortly be joining the council representative on leave as the remainder of the CIS tries to recover from this ordeal. It is not known what fate will befall Verover once the dust settles from this but there have been calls for the suspension of Verover's CIS membership. |

 NATIONAL ANTHEM COMPETITION LAUNCHED  Consul Michael Williams during an ANS interview A rather unconventional competition has been declared today by Consul Michael Williams (pictured above). In a regular interview that he does each week so that the citizens of Achkaerin know what the government is intending to do, the Consul announced that the Achkaerin national anthem is to be updated. His remarks were the following- "Let's be clear about this, we're not talking about doing away with the whole thing we're not even talking about shortening it but there are parts of it such as the chorus which could do with a little updating, we don't want to lose the national history or feelings of patriotism that the anthem gives us, but we don't want it to be outdated either. Of course we also want it to be representative of the people of Achkaerin. As such the government with the agreement from the Royal Family has today opened a competition and not just any competition- a Mundus wide competition to update our anthem, we felt it appropriate to extend the opportunity to citizens of our international community friends because of our strong belief and investment in the CETO. The rules can be found on the official Senate website." Competition entries are to be accepted from school children across Achkaerin and also from across Mundus, the rules are that it is open to everyone aged eighteen or younger.  PRINCESS SERENITY JOINS THE MILITARY  A statement from the Marble Palace today announced that Crown Princess Serenity Azurewind who only a matter of weeks ago celebrated her sixteenth birthday has joined the Achkaerin military. She is to join an armoured unit and is currently preparing to undergo her training. Her training is expected to begin in the classroom where she will take an Officer Training Course otherwise known as an OTC, followed by basic infantry training before she gets anywhere near a tank. This is a tradition in the Royal Family, Emperor Peter Azurewind was prior to ascending the throne a captain in the Imperial Navy and Simon Azurewind Serenity's deceased older brother was a Squadron Leader in the Achkaerin Air Force, there have been questions about whether Serenity would follow this tradition in the wake of Simon's death in the line of duty but Serenity is following it and this has been met with a positive response throughout the country. |

REACTION TO AND ANALYSIS OF EMPEROR PETER'S STATEMENT  General Pytor Brook, Verovan head of armed forces and war criminal In a televised address a matter of hours ago Emperor Peter Azurewind issued a statement regarding the fate of the Verovan war criminal Pytor Brook who is responsible for the deaths of 28 Achkaerin soldiers, 6000 Seaforth soldiers and countless Soviet Safraen civilians. The statement came in response to an official request from the Seaforth government calling for General Brook to be handed over to them for trial. However in his statement the Emperor politely refused that call instead proposing that General Brook should stand trial in front of an international court where all the charges could be answered to. The statement has been well received by the Achkaerin public who believe that General Brook should answer for the deaths of the Achkaerin soldiers who were ordered to carry out the arrest process. Political commentators have also praised the Emperor's choice of words highlighting that the Emperor was effectively in a no-win scenario if he were to hand over General Brook then he would effectively be valuing the lives of 6000 Seaforth lives above those of 28 Achkaerin lives and even considering the numbers that would not have been a popular move, at the same time his refusal of the request is likely to cause some tension in Seaforth as he would appear to value 28 Achkaerin lives more than 6000 Seaforth lives which numbers wise seems absurd. NAIDENSCHNELL FALLS  It has tonight been confirmed that Naidenschnell City the last remaining centre of resistance to the CIS offensive in Safraen has fallen to an assault carried out by the Achkaerin army. The offensive launched after concerns over the reappearance of the Kaiju virus has not been without its difficulties certainly no one expected Verovan troops to behave as they did. But it would seem that everything has gone according to plan with the news of Soviet Safraen troops garrisoning Naidenschnell City surrendering. ACHKAERIN TO HOST WORLD CUP  Vlad Konstantinov receiving the World Cup trophy for Quinntopia after the last competitions final It was today announced that the upcoming IFFA World Cup, the third such tournament, will be hosted in Achkaerin. The announcement was greeted with overwhelming optimism and jubilation, the Achkaerin national team affectionately known as the Foxes made their tournament bow in the last World Cup and made a surprise run to the Semi Finals involving emerging top of the group of death- which included themselves along with the top two ranked teams at the time Elpidia and Quinntopia, the Foxes recorded famous victories over both teams and then proceeded to knock the hosts Tytor out in the Quarter Finals before losing to Blue Shadow in the Semi Finals. There are high hopes that on home soil the team can replicate or even better their success from last time. Once more Julia McCabe will lead the national team, she broke down many gender barriers with her leadership in the last tournament as she coached the side to the success it achieved, it is expected that the majority of the squad from last time will remain the same but with new talent and players now injury free it's going to be interesting to see the composition of what is expected to once more be a young and vibrant team. TROOPS HOME FROM SAFRAEN  Returning troops parade through the town of Rosevale Today a significant number of the Achkaerin troops deployed in the recent liberation of Soviet Safraen returned home, with it being such a logistical operation some troop flights were diverted to Rosevale airport which gave the returning troops the opportunity to march through the historic town on their way back to barracks at Silver Fox Fort. The occasion was however overshadowed by the memory of those that went out to Safraen but did not make the return trip most notably the twenty eight men and women who fell at the hands of Verovan soldiers. DUCHESS ATTACKED IN HOSPITAL News has emerged in the last couple of hours that the Duchess of Valtheim Iona Azurewind has been attacked while attending the Royal Avalon Hospital in a personal capacity. The nature of the attack has been confirmed as a stabbing but that is all that doctors are currently saying, the Marble Palace has confirmed that Emperor Peter and Crown Princess Serenity have been informed and both are either in attendance at or en route to the hospital at this time. VIGIL HELD FOR DUCHESS  In an unexpected development well wishers have gathered outside the Royal Avalon hospital where Duchess Iona Azurewind remains in a critical condition. It is understood that the Empress of Rokkenjima Beatrice Anselmo is in attendance at the hospital along with the Duchess's family Emperor Peter, Crown Princess Serenity and Achkaerin's ambassador to the CIS Adam Shepard who is the Duchess's brother. There has been no update on her condition except to say that she remains in a critical condition. Afterwards Megan dedicated her victory to Iona Azurewind and stated that the thoughts of the entire RCR team are with the royal family. The World Cup started in style for Achkaerin today with the Fox's winning the curtain raising game against Zachachevania by a score of four to nil. Like all games played on the day there was a minutes silence held before the match in memory of the late Duchess of Valtheim Iona Azurewind, the atmosphere around the Fox's Den spoke volumes though there was a carnival feel to the occasion. Lining up in their now established 3-5-2 formation the Fox's took charge from the first minute, they controlled possession and played their pass and move style, they took the lead on the half hour when left winger Nico Heizenberg headed home from a Rory Doherty cross, in the second half substitute Esteban Morova scored first with a volley on 65 minutes and then with a clinical slotted finish on 77 minutes before the job was completed by Cesc Santiago on 87 minutes with a free kick. After the match the Achkaerin manager Julia McCabe gave her reaction "It's a great feeling on home turf to get this start. We were in control, we pressed them, we moved them around and we played with a fluidity that we've honed since the last tournament, with our midfielders interchanging positions we were able to cause enough confusion to get the first goal and to then get into half time ahead. A half time lead is something not to be underestimated because it made them come out and attack us, we put our speedster striker Esteban out there, we absorbed their fightback and hit them with counter punches and just for the cherry on the icing on the cake Cesc shows just what a gifted and talented player he is with a beautiful free kick. ACHKAERIN REMEMBERS THE FALLEN  Wreaths left at the Liberty Memorial in Valtheim On the 305th anniversary of the end of the Achkaerin civil war as with every anniversary since that day the nation fell silent for two minutes to mark Memorial Day. In an unexpected twist to proceedings Princess Georgia of Dartfordia accompanied Crown Princess Serenity to the Liberty memorial. The Crown Princess's attendance was a surprise but a welcome one as was that of Princess Georgia. In a short speech Crown Princess Serenity stated that "The freedom of Achkaerin was bought with a steep price in terms of blood that was shed over those five years, it is a price that we continue to pay alongside our allies throughout the world. Today twenty eight new names are engraved on the plaques of the Liberty Gardens and these names serve as a reminder of sacrifices made that cannot and must not be forgotten." RIVIERE CORPORATION UNVEILS NEW STUN GUN  Riviere Corporation Stun Gun Mark one (RC-SG1) but known to the design team simply as the SG-1 Riviere Corporation today unveiled it's latest creation a new stun gun, it's designed to deliver non-lethal force in the form of a directed electrical current. Riviere Corporation Managing Director Catriona Rowan gave the following statement at the unveiling- "This is by no means a lethal weapon though obviously as we've seen with tazers there's only so much electrical current a human body can take. This is intended to not only be available for military issue with the Achkaerin armed forces but also as a replacement for the tazer when it comes to our domestic security forces such as the police. I will also state that this is a weapon based around similar principles to East Moreland's PHASR and while it is being announced today it is obviously going to have to undergo a period of testing before we can consider issuing it on a large scale I'm only sorry that the Police can't have them for tomorrow's East Moreland v Borland match." FOX'S SEE OFF TOSHIKAWA Achkaerin 2-1 Toshikawa  James Kazmierczek scores the winning goal White Ridge Road tonight played host to Achkaerin's second group game of the World Cup. In a tight game the Fox's enjoyed the majority of possession but fell behind against the run of play in the 25th minute, the Fox's equalized just before half time thanks to a goal from Rory Doherty. After the break the game resumed its previous pattern but no goals were forthcoming until the 78th minute when James Kazmierczek scored what would prove to be the winning goal with a spectacular scissor kick. The result leave the Fox's three points clear at the top of Group A, their manager Julia McCabe gave the following statement after the game. "Tonight just goes to prove that there are no easy games at this level, the bookies didn't give Toshikawa much hope against us and although we've eventually won they were able to scare us and had they held us to half time this could have been a very different story. We're three points clear with four group games left to play, now we go and try to win our next game then we do the maths and work out how many points we need from the remaining games." In a related story tempers flared at the East Moreland v Borland fixture where Achkaerin police were out in full force. Trying to keep both sets of fans separate proved difficult with reports of injuries in the police amounting to fifteen officers in hospital and a total count after the full time whistle of twenty fans arrested, such was the scale of the situation that the Borland fans had to be kept inside the stadium after the final whistle while the East Moreland fans were escorted from the ground and dispersed.  "SEAFORTH ANNOUNCEMENT SMACKS OF HYPOCRISY AND DISRESPECT" CLAIMS VICE CONSUL  With Consul Michael Williams dealing with matters of state normally handled by Emperor Peter or Crown Princess Serenity it fell to Vice Consul Jonathon Hunt to answer the Senate's questions today. The focus of the questions was the content of a recent Seaforth News Network article which outlined that the Seaforth military will be establishing an autonomous military base in the Supreme Empire of the North. The Vice Consul's response is below- "While we encourage the relationship between Seaforth and the North this announcement from the Seaforth government smacks of hypocrisy and disrespect. Hypocrisy because this is the exact behaviour that not so long ago had Seaforth labeling Rokkenjima as imperialist. Now with this arrangement Seaforth seems to cast themselves in the role they so fiercely object to. I say disrespect because as far as Achkaerin is concerned we entrust the security of our major seafaring trade route, the Illumic Channel, to Seaforth and East Moreland while we maintain only a very small naval group at East Moreland's Illumic Command. In exchange it is the Achkaerin Imperial Navy that watches the Great Northern Sea area specifically the area to the east, given our respective geographical positions this has so far made for the most sensible arrangement. For Seaforth to believe that it is in their best interests to have a naval presence with the North sends in the view of this government a statement that they don't trust our navy to do a job that we are eminently more qualified at accomplishing." DUCHESS LAID TO REST  Today the late Duchess Iona Azurewind was laid to rest, the proceedings took most of the day with a funeral procession from the Duchess's home town of Hillside to the Temple of Vulpes atop the plateau in Valtheim beginning the day, crowds lined the streets to pay their respects to a great woman. The formal and public service that was broadcast on Achkaerin television followed the procession led by Cardinal Richard Derringer and featuring eulogies spoken by Crown Princess Serenity and Emperor Peter. There were many notable people in attendance both from within the country and the international community. Following the service the Duchess's body was laid to rest in the Royal cemetery in the Liberty Gardens. A spokesman from the Marble Palace issued a statement on behalf of the Royal family thanking people for their support during what has been a challenging period for them but they are now hopeful that they have reached the light at the end of a very dark tunnel and can now move forward since that is what Iona would want them to do. ANOTHER WIN FOR THE FOX'S Achkaerin 2-0 Rokkenjima  Skipper Robert Kinnay set Achkaerin on their way with his first goal of the competition In Group A of the World Cup the Fox's continue their imperious march towards the quarter finals this time with a two to nil victory over Rokkenjima at Coral Park. The game was played in a very positive spirit from both sets of players with that spirit also evident among the fans. Achkaerin took the lead on the hour with a twenty five yard stunner from captain Robert Kinnay, the match was sealed with a 78th minute goal from Joshua Schilling following a swift counter attack. This result means that at the half way stage of the group phase Achkaerin sit on top of Group A with maximum points this means that a win against Zachachevania in their next game will mean qualification for the quarter finals although they will still need another point to be sure of winning the group. |

FOX'S INTO THE LAST EIGHT Achkaerin 3-0 Zachachevania  Striker Danni Leonidas got his World Cup started with a hat trick in today's game Achkaerin's football team gained another three points today by beating Zachachevania three nil. The star of the show was undoubtedly Achkaerin striker Danni Leonidas who notched up his first international hat trick in the game by scoring all three of Achkaerin's goals. He took his first in the 25th minute with a well executed volley, his second came on the hour mark with some good following up work after the Zachachevanian goalkeeper fumbled a stinging shot from Anders Asamoah. The hat trick goal would not come until the 83rd minute but it was a goal worth waiting for, the Achkaerin players short pass and move sucked the opposition in then a simple long through ball put Danni Leonidas clean through to round the goal keeper and slot his third goal home. This result means that Achkaerin have advanced to the quarter final stage though they don't yet know whether they have won the group or not- if they avoid defeat against Toshikawa then they will win the group. Speculation has also turned to who their potential quarter final opponents might be it is likely that the Fox's will play Dartfordia given the current standings of Group D however fans are wondering whether a titanic clash of Achkaerin v Quinntopia may be on the cards. |

HONOUR'S EVEN AT FOX'S DEN Achkaerin 2-2 Toshikawa  Midfielder James H'Daen scoring Achkaerin's second equalizer in today's game It wasn't quite how the Fox's had planned it but today the Achkaerin football team secured their unassailable position atop Group A at the world cup with a game to spare, they twice fell behind to a Toshikawa team playing for their place in the competition but were able to get back on level terms, having fallen behind within the first ten minutes to an opportunistic strike the Fox's equalized for the first time on forty minutes when in form striker Danni Leonidas fired home from inside the box. In the second half Achkaerin fell behind to a dubious penalty before once more equalizing this time through a James H'Daen twenty five yard screamer in the seventy seventh minute. Manager Julia McCabe gave the following statement after the game. "Well we wanted the three points but the important thing is that we know our place in the quarter final draw, we've won our group with a game to spare- that means we can play a more enjoyable game with Rokkenjima next time out, we still want to win that game so we can continue our run into the quarter finals and hopefully beyond that. The design of the car named Dawnbreaker is the imagining of the Dawnbreaker's team leader Eleanor Hendry, Eleanor works part time in the Computers and Electronics Division of Riviere Corporation as part of the curriculum of RCTC and this is judging by her track record the sort of thing she tends to go in for. FOX'S FINISH GROUP IN STYLE Achkaerin 2-0 Rokkenjima  Rory Doherty netting in today's game With qualification for the quarter finals already secured Julia McCabe opted to give game time to players yet to step on the pitch in today's match against Rokkenjima, keeping the core of the team the same the Fox's manager made five changes from the side that got the vital point against Toshikawa. With the pressure off the Fox's flourished playing their usual game of passing and pace they took the lead after 35 minutes thanks to striker Esteban Morova racing clear, rounding the Rokkenjiman keeper and then calmly slotting home, they soaked up the pressure after half time and secured the victory on the 70 minute mark when Rory Doherty fired the ball into the roof of the net at the end of a well worked counter attack. Despite the game being played Fans of the Fox's were constantly viewing the situation in Group D as they sought to identify who their quarter final opponents would be, Dartfordia's crushing victory over Transvaal didn't leave much mystery as to the equation but a resolute Dyfedia holding Quinntopia to a draw means that it is to be a clash of the titans in the quarter finals as Achkaerin take on Quinntopia. FOX'S WIN CLASH OF THE TITANS Achkaerin 5-4 Quinntopia  (left) Skipper Robert Kinnay after scoring the winning goal (right) Achkaerin manager Julia McCabe after the game Tonight the Achkaerin football team claimed a famous victory as they beat world champions Quinntopia in a nine goal thriller with a final score of 5-4 in favour of the Fox's after extra time. The game at the Leonaise Arena was something of a homecoming for the Achkaerin manager Julia McCabe who had three successful years in charge of Leonaise F.C winning three consecutive league titles in the process. Tonight's performance by the Fox's very much embodied the principles on which Julia built a successful era at Leonaise. There were no surprises in the Fox's tactical set up as they lined up in their now synonymous 3-5-2 formation, the early game stages were hotly contested with neither side giving an inch but it was Quinntopia who went in front with two quick goals only to be pegged back to 2-1 by half time as Achkaerin's Anders Asamoah stole a goal back, in the second half the fight back continued as Nico Heizenberg scored the equalizer and then James Kazmeirczek put Achkaerin in front for the first time, Quinntopia then hit back with another pair of quick goals only to see a late equalizer by Achkaerin's Danni Leonidas take the game into extra time. In extra time both sides went at it with neither side backing down until in the 107th minute Achkaerin's captain Robert Kinnay fired home, what followed was thirteen minutes of Quinntopia attack against Achkaerin defence as bodies were put on the line to keep the ball firmly away from the Achkaerin goal and when there were no bodies keeper Gary Tyler proved to be a safe pair of hands, the final whistle was greeted with a cheer louder than any other heard in the tournament so far, after the game the Achkaerin manager Julia McCabe gave the following comments "This is unbelievable, we knew tonight was going to be a challenge we knew Quinntopia would come at us with their tiki-taka style and we knew that there was only one way we were going to be able to beat them and that was to take their game and throw it right back at them, we got hit early which didn't help us but we've got plenty of character in this team and we were able to pull it back and go in front then we fell behind again before pulling it back and going ahead for the final time- talk about a seesaw game. I'm just glad that we had enough energy left after Robert's goal to go and mark them man to man to see the game out. Now we have to play Borland which is a slightly uncomfortable feeling, tonight was a game we could enjoy a little since it was a chance to challenge the best, but we have to beat Borland because the prospect of Borland winning this tournament is unthinkable." |

FOX'S INTO THE FINAL Achkaerin 5-0 Borland  James Kazmeirczek with the goal of the game In front of a packed Coral Park crowd tonight Achkaerin's footballers brushed aside the overachieving Borland team to make it to the World Cup final. The Fox's took control of proceedings early on, their passing and running game proving too much for a Borland team lacking professional level players. Central Defender Peter Adams headed in from a corner on the fifteen minute mark, striker James Kazmierczek added to this with a stunning volley after forty minutes taking Achkaerin to the break with a two nil lead. Esteban Morova was brought on for Kazmeirczek at half time and as they have so often done in this tournament the Fox's took advantage of their half time lead bringing their opponents onto them and then striking on the counter, once more done to great effect as a further three goals were added by Esteban Morova, Adam Dawson and Nico Heizenberg. The final will be Achkaerin v Dartfordia and will be played at the Fox's Den it is expected to be a sellout crowd, both teams have played well, both have surpassed their pre-tournament expectations the question however is this- who will lift the trophy? FOX'S WIN WORLD CUP Achkaerin 1-0 Dartfordia (Left) Achkaerin captain Robert Kinnay scoring the winning goal (Right) Achkaerin manager Julia McCabe waves her players up to the Royal Box At the Fox's Den tonight history was made as Achkaerin defeated Dartfordia to win the World Cup, the game was for once what was predicted a tight and nervous game typical of two teams not used to such a stage especially considering that the hosts were playing. The Fox's may have scored the most goals in the tournament but they were to be made to sweat by a well drilled Dartfordian defensive line however that said the Achkaerin goalkeeper Gary Tyler was in inspired form as the two defences cancelled each other out with scoring opportunities being restricted to tight angles and long distances. The decisive moment came in the 62nd minute with a tremendous twenty five yard screamer of a half volley from Achkaerin's captain Robert Kinnay that sent at least 80% of the packed stadium into raptures. A second goal would not be forthcoming but the Fox's defence held firm as Dartfordia laid siege to the Achkaerin goal late on to give Achkaerin their first World Cup a historic occasion for three reasons, first it's the first time Achkaerin has won the World Cup, second it's the first time the host nation has won the World Cup and third it's the first time a team coached by a woman has won the World Cup. And speaking of the Achkaerin manager Julia McCabe now adds another trophy to her successful career with the World Cup joining three domestic league titles and two Emperors Cups after the game she gave the following statement: "This is going to take a while to sink in, I don't know if it'll ever feel real we'll probably all wake up tomorrow wondering if this was all a dream, I have to give Dartfordia credit only Quinntopia and Toshikawa have caused us this much trouble in this tournament, you just got the feeling that the first goal was going to be decisive tonight especially considering what the flow of the game was and true to the kind of player he is Robert's stepped up and done what I saw him do week in week out when I coached him at Leonaise- take a game by the scruff of the neck and lift the performance of the team and he's got his reward with a terrific goal that we'll no doubt be talking about for years to come. MURDER AT RIVIERE PREMISES  It has today emerged that the deaths of two police officers at the Riviere Corporation building in Jenka are being treated as murder. It is not yet known who is responsible or what the motive behind the killings is but there is speculation surrounding the motive especially considering the location. In a statement today, the corporations Managing Director Catriona Rowan (pictured above) stated that the deaths were tragic and that Riviere Corporation would be fully cooperating with the Jenkan police to determine who is responsible for the deaths. It is also believed that Riviere Corporation will reoccupy their Jenka offices as soon as they are able to do so. CONTRASTING TENNIS FORTUNES (Left) Melody Cartwright (Centre) Kevin Nikaido (Right) Kimberley Ravers It was a day of mixed fortunes at the Braz Open for Achkaerin's tennis stars- the men's number one Kevin Nikaido lost a five set thriller to Louess Richhiel of the CAS and Eleanor Truesdale lost her match in three sets to Elizabeth Turner of Tytor. However the other two young Achkaerin women in action won their games Melody Cartwright defeated Tatyana Pyotrova in straight sets winning the first on a tiebreak and then brushing her opponent aside in an imperious cruise to the second. Kimberley Ravers also won defeating Rebecca Lawrie of Dyfedia also in straight sets. It appears that a good year of Achkaerin sport seems set to continue. MORE TENNIS SUCCESS  There was more success for Achkaerin's tennis players at the Braz Open on the second day of play, this time the hopes of Achkaerin rode with David H'Daen who played Anthony Williams of Dyfedia winning the match in five sets, although by his own admission he made it a heck of a lot harder than it should have been since he went two sets up and should have been able to win it in straight sets but was pegged back to two sets all before winning the decider at a canter. This means that this one Achkaerin man and two of the three Achkaerin women who have played in the championship so far have progressed through their opening round with only Eleanor Truesdale and Kevin Nikaido missing out. CORAL RIFT PRISON OPENED Artists rendering of Coral Rift Prison After many months of construction, Achkaerin's most secure prison was finally opened for business today. Coral Rift Prison is intended only for the most dangerous of prisoners and is situated on the ocean floor to the north west of the Valkyrian Coast and a couple of miles within Achkaerin territorial waters, it's designed to accommodate up 2500 prisoners at maximum capacity, the prison designed and constructed entirely underwater was according to the builders a 'challenge to construct'. The various systems that have been put in place as well as the solitary location have received praise from the Achkaerin political establishment and there are rumors that a sister prison may be on the drawing boards. It is expected that Coral Rift will be the prison of choice for any criminal convicted at the World Court in Achkaerin. H'DAEN POWERS TO BRAZ OPEN TITLE  Sporting success appears to run in the H'Daen family, mere days after James H'Daen played in the World Cup Final for a victorious Achkaerin football team his younger brother David H'Daen has won the Braz Open Tennis Championship in Ndambia, beating Tikhon Ivanov of Meche in four sets. H'Daen started off quickly playing his natural serve and volley game which was definitely in full flow as he stormed to the first set taking it 6-2, helped by establishing a 4-0 lead right off the bat with a double break. The second set was closer but H'Daen got the crucial break in the eleventh game and then served it out to establish a two set lead and take him to the brink. There was to be drama however as in the third set with the score at 1-1 H'Daen went over and fell on his right leg, this clearly affected the flow of the match as Ivanov took the set at a canter 6-1, following a medical time out there was a tight fourth set but H'Daen was not to be denied he took his game up a level when it really mattered and finished proceedings with a deft drop volley to take it 7-5 and secure the title. There would however be no fairy tale double victory as Melody Cartwright lost the women's final in three sets to Violetta Vasilyeva of Quinntopia, but these performances are encouraging as the next event on the calendar is their home championship in Achkaerin where Melody will hope to gain a measure of revenge for this defeat. SERENITY'S SUPREME SOVEREIGNTY SECRET?  Crown Princess Serenity with Prince Issac of Supreme Sovereignty at the recent celebrations Crown Princess Serenity has been the talk of many articles regarding her love life over the years although not for almost a year has one been written- until now. The Crown Princess was in attendance at the celebrations to mark the first anniversary of the founding of the nation Supreme Sovereignty and nothing much was thought of her attendance until a member of the media covering the event noticed that Serenity was behaving in a very friendly way towards Prince Issac of Supreme Sovereignty and was able to snap the above picture just moments before events took a turn for the worse, the exact nature of which is still unknown but it is understood that shots were fired and the situation is well under control having been resolved. It is also reported that the Crown Princess is unharmed. Speculation following the acquiring of the above picture has skyrocketed and while there has been no official statement from the Marble Palace many people are wondering what this could mean- is the Crown Princess finally in a relationship? It's sure to be a close contest with an established name in Sanna, a young hotshot in Alchemy and a rising star group all seeking to claim the spot.  Welcome to the Achkaerin News Service Christmas edition, yes we know it's in fact Boxing Day but as is tradition unless there's a sudden emergency along apocalyptic lines we don't actually report the news on Christmas but we do so on Boxing Day. CROWN PRINCESS'S CHRISTMAS MESSAGE  In a break from the norm, this year the Christmas message from the Royal Family was given by Crown Princess Serenity, it is understood that the message was pre-recorded just after the recent World Cup so it was still in the time immediately following the burial of Duchess Iona Azurewind, so it is perhaps not so surprising that it is the Crown Princess as opposed to the Emperor who gave the message.
RELIGIOUS LEADERS DELIVER CHRISTMAS SERMONS (Left) Cardinal Richard Derringer, Leader of the Deum Beastia faith (Right) Priestess Hinata Akido of the Cult of Helus As well as the Royal Family's message the leaders of the two major church's in Achkaerin delivered their seasonal messages, Cardinal Richard Derringer spoke of the traditional turning wheel of life, while Priestess Hinata Akido spoke of those less fortunate members of society who for whatever reason wouldn't be able to enjoy Christmas and encouraged listeners to try and make a difference. AKB48 TAKES CHRISTMAS NUMBER ONE SPOT It went right down to the wire but after one of the closest Christmas chart battles in recent memory it was AKB48 with their song Kibou Ni Tsuite that took the Christmas Number One spot, bumping Alchemy Naismith's Long Distance Call into second place with Sanna Nielsen's Undo coming third. In an interesting observation the highest place typical piece of Achkaerin music, by which we mean more orchestral, was placed seventh overall so while this may not mark a change in terms of the musical taste of Achkaerin citizens it does suggest that there are certain times of the year where things do change. The win for AKB48 is made more remarkable by the fact that they choose to sing in a more traditional Achkaerin dialect, however their manager Kanata Saki believes that this may have bolstered their challenge for the number one spot, what she believes is more remarkable is that a 'choir sized group' rather than a 'band sized group' took the number one spot- this is a reference to the larger membership of AKB48 and the fact that not every member of the group performs in each number. Although this could be interpreted as yet another quirk that makes AKB48 very likable. |

MARBLE PALACE SIEGE  The Marble Palace as it's normally seen In a move that has sent shock waves through Achkaerin, the Elsif family has seized control of the Marble Palace and is presently holding approximately forty hostages inside. A heavy military presence around the palace perimeter was set up within half an hour of the security breach that was identified moments before the siege began. It is understood that Emperor Peter Azurewind and Crown Princess Serenity Azurewind were both inside at the time and the status of the pair is as yet unknown. It is also unclear how the Elsif's were able to achieve such a feat as this. Command of the perimeter is currently the responsibility of Rion Ayanami, the Crisis Controller of the CCU and while the situation is grave there is reportedly an optimistic air around the key players on the perimeter.  Happy 2015 from all at the Achkaerin News Service these are the first stories of the new year. PRINCE SIMON LIVES  Following the successful end to the Marble Palace siege (see article below) another story has been revealed with the return of Prince Simon to Achkaerin, the Prince thought dead for two years told his story to our lead reporter Roisin Shaughnessy.
MARBLE PALACE SIEGE ENDS  Rion Ayanami after the successful operation As mentioned in the previous article at dawn this morning a multi-agency operation carried out by the combined forces within the Achkaerin military resulted in the successful retaking of the Marble Palace from the Elsif Family, it is understood that a stalemate within the Royal Court led to the operation being turned over on the military's initiative to the Crisis Control Unit headed by Rion Ayanami. The former head of royal security is being credited with a great success in that no friendly casualties were sustained but there are three wounded. In a statement Ms Ayanami said the following: "This morning where once the Silver Fang of the Elsif's had metaphorically flown the Nine Tails standard flies once more. We have taken back what they sought to take from us, we have shown the spirit of the Achkaerin people in that we were resourceful, we were determined and we were professional. I can confirm that we have captured one of the leaders of the Elsif movement and we now have them for the first time on the back foot. I wish to pay tribute to all those brave people involved in this assault they are a credit to the organisations, regiments and services that they belong to. I will also state so there is no doubt that Emperor Peter Azurewind and Crown Princess Serenity Azurewind are in good spirits considering the ordeal they've just been through." ILLUMIC COUNCIL CONTROVERSY REVEALED  It has been revealed that Achkaerin's failed bid for associate membership of the Illumic Council was not as clear cut as was first believed. It has emerged that Achkaerin's bid did indeed receive the three votes in the affirmative required for membership to be achieved from East Moreland, Takeda and Transvaal but that during the course of discussions Transvaal's delegate changed his vote resulting in the failure of the bid the full statement is below:
New Year Honours List Revealed Dame Julia McCabe and Sir Gabriel Higginson The Emperors traditional New Year honours list has a sporting feel to it with at least as far as the headlines on the list go. Julia McCabe the manager of the world cup winning Achkaerin football team is made a dame, while Gabriel Higginson who manages Achkaerin's winter and summer games teams is also given a knighthood. Other notable awards include Order of Vulpes inductions for actress Renee Sandiego and Kanata Saki who coach's hit group AKB48 both for services to the musical arts, Ms Sandiego's commitment to her campaigning for women's rights across Mundus was also noted, Doctor Donna Steele is awarded an Emperor's Commendation Medal for her services in the field of history and archaeology. The awards will be conferred upon their recipients at the traditional ceremony in the coming days. |

VICTORY IN GOWU  After a hard fought battle that has an as yet unknown casualty figure (though it is expected to be high) Achkaerin forces have successfully repulsed the Toshikawan assault on Gowu[1]. The City of Gowu had in fearing the assault requested the help of Achkaerin hoping to reforge a lost bond, this has been achieved with this victory. Gowu itself is a city originally founded over two thousand years ago by Achkaerin troops who were pursuing the army that attacked the six states that now make up Achkaerin- this was the final months of the War that Forged Achkaerin. Gowu was established as a beachhead colony and then grew into a prosperous city and valued jewel of the Empire. However during the Achkaerin civil war with the main areas of the country in upheaval contact was lost, until now when at the request of the people of Gowu it has been re-established. Many people are now wondering what will happen no Gowu none less than the people of Gowu themselves, in a statement the Achkaerin government has said the following: "Gowu was once an important part of this country, it is a shame that the connection we shared with the people there was lost but now it is forged anew, we will not betray our word to these people we gave our word that we would provide them with every assistance in defending their city from the enemy and this we have done- now we have a city to rebuild and an old friend to welcome back into the fold." ACHKAERIN ROYALS ENJOY MUNDUS PRIDE  Crown Princess Serenity and Prince Simon in Uppsala, both wearing 'Dire Wolf' badges The Achkaerin Royal Family has arrived in Uppsala for Mundus Pride, the event marks the return to the international stage for Prince Simon and it seems that a better event could not have been chosen for the moment. Of note is that both young Achkaerin Royals and their father Emperor Peter Azurewind (pictured below) wore 'Dire Wolf' badges as a show of support for the Rhodes family.  Neither the Crown Princess or the Prince made comment about their badges however the Emperor did with the following statement: "Mundus Pride is about the LGBT community it's a celebration of that community, the struggles that it has endured and the recognition it now enjoys through the MCUR and domestic laws in several countries. This festival is not about people making speeches about the situation in Seaforth but that does not mean that we cannot silently show support for an ally." Another intriguing Achkaerin sub-plot to Mundus Pride is that it marks the return to Uppsala for actress Renee Sandiego, Ms Sandiego was recently held hostage by the Gungnir on Northwind flight 540 and was seen as a surprise speaker when the Mundus Pride speaker list was publicly released, her standing as a champion of women's rights not withstanding, it was more the psychological concerns that worried people however such concerns appear to be unfounded. WEST COAST BRACES FOR STORM  The western coast of Achkaerin is today bracing for what meteorologists are calling 'the most powerful storm ever seen in the area' the storm alert went out yesterday afternoon detailing the steps that people could take to secure their homes such as boarding up windows on both sides so as to prevent flying glass, evacuation alerts for the most vulnerable areas have been issued and the Crisis Control Unit is coordinating those evacuations. Many people are wondering how such a storm could have so suddenly appeared Riviere Corporation's senior meteorologist Doctor Charlotte Harrison gave the following statement. "This storm is the remnants of the hurricane that hit the Illumic Channel a few months ago only now having been in the Great Northern Sea it's been able to recharge and thanks to the conditions and temperatures of the Great Northern Sea being especially artic as well as considering the time of year this storm has become much more deadly than it once was. If it hits the coast directly then we're in trouble but at the moment all our predictions tell us that the storm's path means that it will have to hit Avalon before it hits the coast now if that indeed happens to be the case then there should only be minimal damage achieved by this storm." |

NEW ERA FOR RIVIERE CORPORATION  (Left) Former CEO Francisco Riviere and (Right) his successor Catriona Rowan Finally the most predicted event in recent months within the Achkaerin business community has come to pass. Francisco Riviere's tenure in charge of Riviere Corporation has come to an end with his successor being Catriona Rowan. Ms Rowan has been the Managing Director of Riviere Corporation for the last eighteen months following Francisco Riviere being indisposed following an accident during product testing in the early stages of the Mermaid Program. It is understood that Mr Riviere defied doctor's advice to ensure that he was passing the responsibility of leading Riviere Corporation to the right person. Catriona Rowan (25) was educated at Artaxia Academy until the age of sixteen when she enrolled at Riviere Corporation Technology College during her attendance there she started work in the Research and Development department, six years later she was running that department, she is regarded as one of the most intelligent people in Achkaerin and has been inducted into the Order of Vulpes for her endeavours in the Research and Development field. When asked for her reaction Ms Rowan stated that she was humbled and that it was an honor to be given the opportunity, she also promised to make Francisco Riviere, a man who took her under his wing, proud of her. And it's not just the CEO position that's changing at Riviere Corporation there are high level job vacancies being advertised for a Chair of the Executive Board, Corporation Secretary and also the position of Personal Assistant to Ms Rowan. Furthermore a new logo has been unveiled for the Corporation:  When asked about these other developments Ms Rowan said the following: "The new logo is a means of updating the Corporation's look, it was already in the works and following last minute alterations by Francisco I was surprised to see my family's emblem represented on the logo as well as the Riviere name. It's a humbling experience, I'm told it's a reward for my years of service and that it also represents the transition from one era to the next. In terms of the jobs we've advertised I'll say this- Riviere Corporation is a global name in recent months we've expanded out our operations to other nations so it's not surprising that we would look globally for applicants after all if we are to maintain our position in the world then we'll need the best people for the job." AKB48 LIGHT UP MUNDUS PRIDE  AKB48 take their bow following their set at Mundus Pride's opening concert AKB48, outside of Achkaerin are probably not that well known but last night they lit up Mundus Pride's opening concert with a set list comprising some of their best known songs- Pioneer, Beginner, Heavy Rotation and their recent Christmas number one Kibou Ni Tsuite. The band were tenth out of thirteen performers on the nights running order and by all accounts put on an excellent performance, in the hours after their performance internet searches on the group, posts in the members blogs and downloads of the band's music all saw a drastic upwards surge in activity. When asked for comment following the performance AKB48 lead singer Maeda Atsuko otherwise known as Acchan (centre in the above picture) gave the following reaction: "That's a feeling we've never experienced before, we're used to the crowds back home really getting into our music and supporting us as we keep singing, we were a little apprehensive before we went on since this was our first international gig but the second we started singing Pioneer they got behind us and by the time we came to start our big two numbers Heavy Rotation and Kibou Ni Tsuite we were riding on a wave established by the crowd and that's the way it should always be." Fellow member Mariko Shinoda added the following: "We did great out there I don't think we've ever taken that number of bows before or received applause quite like that. But I have to give praise to Alexander Ryback, the Tomyo Takeda Orchestra and of course our very own New Directions for setting the mood very nicely, when the lead off acts achieve that it makes things so much easier for those of us who are further down the list." The Achkaerin News Service did try to get a comment from AKB48's manager Kanata Saki but she was unavailable for comment- apparently her phone wouldn't stop ringing which could be taken as a sign of a blossoming future for the band. CHALLENGE ISSUED AT MUNDUS PRIDE Renee Sandiego Following the opening concert of Mundus Pride, it has been the speeches made by various dignitaries that have taken centre stage, most of the speakers have been world leaders or the spouses of world leaders however the only speech by someone from Achkaerin was by Renee Sandiego, a noted actress of the musical theatre trade who used her speech to issue a challenge to the LGBT community to continue on their 'Road to Recognition' as she termed it in fact that was the theme of her speech, the full transcript is below.
SPACE STATION PEGASUS OPERATIONAL  Space Station Pegasus After many months of space launches the Achkaerin Space Agency today confirmed that Space Station Pegasus was operational. The station, a joint venture between the Achkaerin Government, Achkaerin Space Agency, Riviere Corporation, Future Energy Industries and Silver Moon Technology has attracted attention from experts in the field who have questioned the design in particular the presence of a dome as the central part of it. When questioned on this Gary Hale, Director of the Achkaerin Space Agency stated the following: "We gave Riviere Corporation a brief we said we wanted if at all possible a dome so that we could in effect create a greenhouse environment in orbit, why would we want such an environment? Well the primary purpose of Pegasus is in the field of science and there are some areas where a controlled testing area would come in handy. The station also features other labs and is like all other orbital stations reliant on solar energy. The only real difference between Pegasus and other space stations is that Pegasus has this dome." Further detail on the dome was added by Riviere Corporation CEO, Catriona Rowan: "I am aware that there are some safety concerns in terms of the dome itself well let me put them to rest. First the 'glass' of the dome is a much harder compound so it can take the stress of space travel. Secondly what isn't on the released picture ,because it was the final piece to be installed and the picture pre-dates it, is a rotating metallic shield designed to protect the dome from micro-asteroids, debris, the odd dropped spanner and other such objects that could pose hazardous. The shield covers around 80% of the dome and since due to the westward orbit we've set the station on also means that the sun is always behind Pegasus, thus allowing for the perfect situation- the dome is protected and whatever's in the dome gets the sunlight it needs. As for how the shield rotates well there is a small spire atop the dome that contains a sensor that tracks a fixed point in space in this case the planet Mundus, the shield then adjusts its position to correspond with the distance recorded by the sensor."[1] AVALON HIT BY SUPER STORM The central sector of Avalon viewed from the ground The long expected super storm finally hit Avalon today lasting close to twelve hours before it finally subsided. Riviere Corporation has hailed the success of the lightning conductors placed throughout the city stating that despite a terrorist attack by the Elsif Family at the beginning, once power was restored to the system by means of a manual override the system built into Avalon for disrupting storms such as this appeared to work- the data will now be collated and analyzed in greater detail for absolute certainty and a fuller report is expected at a later date. In terms of damage the heaviest hit area was the marina but the damage is not as bad as first anticipated and buildings can be repaired with ease. Of great relief is that there was no loss of life due to the storm. TEAM FOX SET FOR EAST MORELAND With the IO Games approaching Sir Gabriel Higginson today revealed the athletes that make up the Achkaerin team otherwise known as Team Fox. However the big attraction for the Achkaerin team and the big hope will be the men's football team, Dame Julia McCabe leads a squad full of world champions in search this time of the gold medal. A SOLID START  Achkaerin's Cyclists headed the Peleton in the early stages The first day of competition at the IO Games in East Moreland only saw one gold medal decided, this was in the Men's Road Racing, it all came down to a sprint finish and despite not repeating his silver medal from a year ago in Kazarovia Jason Bennett who finished 5th was quite pleased with his performance, stating afterwards that "A year ago we did well but we had the element of surprise our success last year has meant that we have a reputation and we're being looked at so there are plenty more mind games going on and lot more cat and mouse we weren't able to break away from the pack and in the sprint I was outsprinted that's all there is to it." Hopes will however remain high in the Achkaerin cycling team that the women can repeat their performance of last year and hopefully better it. Away from cycling Achkaerin made excellent progress in the other events scheduled for the day, the men's football team picked up where they left off at the World Cup- winning this time with an imperious performance against Supreme Sovereignty the Fox's ran out 5-0 winners in the end. In the tennis David H'Daen proved just why he's the number one ranked player in the world at the moment brushing aside his Ndambian opponent in straight sets, Kevin Nikaido also won his match in straight sets. As for the women Melody Cartwright had an easier time of it winning in straight sets while Kimberley Ravers endured a three set battle against her Transvaal opponent eventually prevailing 8-6 in the final set. This time, this year the Achkaerin team made sure to put Sammy across the line first, a series of surges split the peleton apart until it came down to just three riders one from Dartfordia and Sammy Lawson and Melanie Parker from Achkaerin, the advantage of having a team mate gave the two Achkaerin riders control of the final stages meaning that Melanie was able to lead Sammy out launching the eventual gold medalist out alone with just over a hundred metres remaining. Sammy Lawson will now focus on defending her Time Trial title before looking at the Women's Omnium on the track in the coming days. |

CONTINUED SUCCESS AT THE GAMES (left to right) Eleanor Childs,Charlotte Kennedy,Becky Nightingale,Abigail Snowden,Fiona North and Megan Holmes On Day three of the IO Games there was more success for Team Fox, this time in the women's all around gymnastics team competition where the team of young girls, unchanged from the Kazarovia games, took the gold medal with what has been described as a steady and solid performance. The team started on the vault and finished on the floor where they produced three excellent performances to bring the gold home. The team competed in their now synonymous black with flames costumes one of many such optional outfits that the Achkaerin athletes have the opportunity to compete in. In other news from the games the Achkaerin golfers had some success, the female squash players all advanced to the next round of the singles tournament. In the tennis Kevin Nikaido and David H'Daen both advanced in the men's draw while in the women's draw Melody Cartwright advanced but Kimberley Ravers was knocked out. Sir Gabriel Higginson has described the results so far as "Beyond expectations" and with plenty of medal opportunities remaining there may be more to come from our Fox's. GOLDEN GIRLS (left) Gymnast Abigail Snowden during her floor routine (right) Swimmer Becky Brittain Day four at the I.O Games brought more great moments for Team Fox. The first success was found in the pool where Becky Brittain took the Women's 800m individual Medley by a margin of close to three seconds, Becky started with the breaststroke and followed up with the butterfly to establish a slight advantage, following the backstroke leg her advantage had been eaten away somewhat but her freestyle leg settled the matter she went out hard on the last leg of the race and gave herself a safe enough cushion to assure herself of the medal, speaking afterwards she said that she was "ecstatic with her performance especially because I was injured last year, this more than makes up for missing out back then." Further success came from Abigail Snowden who yesterday led the Women's gymnastics team to victory in the all around event yesterday. Today she was in action again and again it was in the all around competition only this time it was the individual event, Abigail went on to win the gold medal. She gave the following statement afterwards: "This is truly unbelievable, yesterday was mind blowing but today is out of this world, it's funny really yesterday all the girls and the coach's were trying to get me to minimize my participation because they wanted to give me the best chance today, but these games for me were all about the team competition and since it was a close run thing yesterday I stepped in when I had to. I guess what I mean is that I achieved my dream yesterday when I had the privilege to lead the girls to victory, today was a bonus and I guess you could say it's the icing on the cake." BRILLIANT BRITNEY SPARKS SHOCK RESULT  Britney Hammond takes the individual gold in the women's cross country On Day Six of the games in East Moreland Team Achkaerin has enjoyed shock success. If any events were going to bring Achkaerin medals then surely it would have been the fencing, but that was a slight let down with only a single bronze coming in the men's individual kendo, however the fencing team remains hopeful ahead of two big days of competition for them. So rather than the fencing it was the surprise arena of cross country running where Achkaerin's greatest success of the day was to come, first the men's team put in a solid performance in their race to claim the silver medal but it was the women's race where the shock was to be had- a double gold performance with Britney Hammond taking the individual gold and the team taking the team event gold, there was also a second medal in the individual event with Olivia Swire bringing home the bronze for Achkaerin. The race itself was run at a fast pace with many surges as the Achkaerin runners stuck together as much as they could but as the pack thinned out a group of three emerged towards the front consisting of Britney Hammond, Olivia Swire and from East Moreland Archduchess Sophie Harrison-Ironside. About half an hour later though it was down to just Britney and Sophie, the two of them practically inseparable on the final climb and sprint with just a second between them over the line. Speaking afterwards Britney gave the following reaction: "It hasn't sunk in yet that not only have I won the gold but the team's won one as well. It was a hard race, we got a little lucky in that once it was down to three of us I had Olivia there with me so we tried to go two against one on Sophie, taking it in turns to surge to try and tire her out but she stuck with us and actually managed to reverse the situation and drop Olivia from the group, I just kicked like crazy on the final climb and got a bit of a lead but even as we hit the sprint I knew Sophie was still there and that she was gaining you could just sense the buzz in the crowd and I give credit to her she threw absolutely everything at me in those final sections and it took everything I had to hold her off- ten metres longer and my lead would have been gone of that I'm certain. I look forward to the chance to race her again." Team Achkaerin presently sit in third position on the medal table with nine gold medals, six silver medals and nine bronze medals for a total of twenty four- six more medals than they managed last year and only one gold short of last years haul, and there's every reason to believe that they'll exceed that total with footballers in form, the highlight of the fencing to come and that's not forgetting the tennis, basketball and equestrian events. |

"PRINCESS MUST CHOOSE" SAYS BARON Baron Daniel Macquer of Makyla With the relationship between Crown Princess Serenity and Crown Prince Isaac of Supreme Sovereignty reportedly blossoming more and more by the day, many are wondering what this could mean in the long term for both countries. Today Baron Macquer of Makyla, a more junior member of the Achkaerin nobility fired a warning shot across the bows of the relationship with the following statement:
There has been no official response from the Marble Palace, but that is not unexpected since all the members of the Achkaerin Royal Family are presently in East Moreland at the IO Games. RIVIERE CORPORATION ATTACKED Earlier today an explosion took place outside the East Moreland headquarters of Riviere Corporation, reports have identified it as a car bomb and not a particularly nice one, according to bomb experts the device when detonated fired various pieces of shrapnel at high velocity into the Rivere Corporation building, an official statement released a few hours after the event from the director of East Moreland operations Hermione Washington stated that the only critical damage was to office equipment and while there were twenty five injured in the blast there were no fatalities. It is not yet known who is responsible for the attack but given the location the suspicion is the Borlanders. ACHKAERIN ACCELERATION LEAVES OTHERS IN THE DUST  Achkaerin's female team pursuit gold medalists, the Fernley Quartet Kaitlin, Ruth, Niamh and Lucy With day eight of the IO Games in East Moreland came the return of the cycling program only this time on the indoor stage of the velodrome, the men weren't on their game but the women were, the Fernley quartet of sisters took the medals first the two youngest Niamh and Lucy took the women's team sprint gold before joining their older siblings to take the team pursuit gold. These medals in conjunction with the two won in the tumbling yesterday mean that Achkaerin's athletes have broken their record from the last games both in terms of medal total and in terms of number of golds. Away from the velodrome the three day eventing got under way which saw Emperor Peter Azurewind make his IO Games debut and he performed well finishing high up the order in the dressage discipline, the Achkaerin team presently sits in second place in the three day eventing standings trailing East Moreland but not by much and of the three disciplines the Achkaerin team are most confident in their cross country riding. And on a final note a special mention to three young female fencers all of them Maiden Sisters from Luna Isle who took the clean sweep of gold, silver and bronze in the women's individual katana. The success currently means that Achkaerin sits third overall in the medal table but Sir Gabriel Higginson was quick to point out that once tomorrow's cycling program is completed there are not that many events where Achkaerin are expected to medal apart from the football so while the team remains optimistic they are also aware that in all likelihood the gold medals won't be coming as thick and fast as they have been. |

Sammy Lawson rounded off her games in style by taking the women's omnium title, all the cycling success has seen a reported increase in bicycle sales across Achkaerin with many youngsters trying to emulate their heroes in their home streets. Also in action was the equestrian three day eventing team, lying second to East Moreland after the dressage yesterday the team set out with one objective: to close the gap as much as they could before the showjumping tomorrow, the result? They didn't just close the gap, they didn't even just completely close the gap, no they took the competition lead and gave themselves a slight but reasonable advantage with one discipline left. The star of the show was Emperor Peter Azurewind as he set the fastest time across the course on his horse Titan, the Emperor is known to be a keen horse rider (as is the rest of the Royal Family) however it would seem that he didn't quite believe his own time judging from his reaction when he saw it crossing the line. Today saw some of the finest action at the IO Games in East Moreland from an Achkaerin point of view, the highlight was in the equestrian three day eventing. The team made up of the main riders of the Royal Hunt were sitting in gold medal position overnight with a clear understanding of what they had to in order to achieve the gold medal- score as close to the East Moreland riders as they could preferably matching them. Following strong performances from the riders, including a clear round from Emperor Peter- the last rider to go by virtue of having the best individual score, the team could celebrate the gold medal. This is an unexpected medal for Achkaerin so to beat proud equestrian nations such as East Moreland and Seaforth is something the team has taken with great humility. (left) David H'Daen, (centre) Kevin Nikaido and Kimberley Ravers (right) Melody Cartwright Away from the equestrian arena the main successes of the day for Achkaerin were on the tennis court, David H'Daen took gold in a five set thriller, coming from two sets down to defeat his Transvaalian opponent, including a marathon final set that the world number one took 10-8. The toned down celebrations signaled just how exhausting the match had been, but the delight was evident on his face. In the Women's gold medal match Melody Cartwright achieved a measure of revenge for the Braz tournament by defeating her Quinntopian opponent, like her male compatriot she also came from a set down and she also had a marathon final set, she eventually took it 9-7. The third tennis gold was provided by Kevin Nikaido and Kimberley Ravers in the mixed doubles, the pair who only entered the tournament for fun ended up winning it with victory over the Mechean pair in three sets. Following all the victories Melody Cartwright gave the following reaction: "It's been a great day for Achkaerin tennis to take the three gold medals that we were in with a shout of, the camaraderie within the team is great as well, I looked up at my box before the first set and saw David sat there that gave me a huge confidence boost and then I was happy to join him up there after my win to watch Kevin and Kim go for their gold." Also of note on Day ten was gymnast Abigail Snowden adding the women's individual floor gold to the team all around and individual all around golds that she'd already won. With the IO Games now past the halfway point the expected medal prospects for Achkaerin are expected to become fewer but there are still medals to be had and considering some of the shocks the games have seen so far many believe that there's plenty of room for more. GOLDEN DAY FOR FOX'S (left) Achkaerin's football captain Robert Kinnay (right) Squash gold medalist, Sabrina Pilling Day twelve of the IO Games brought the most pressure for the Achkaerin team- the men's football gold medal match in which the World Cup winning Fox's were pitted against Dijel. The World Cup final last year was reportedly described as "The most boring final in history" by the manager of the Dartfordian national team (the runners up to Achkaerin in the last World Cup) this time the game was far from boring, it almost seemed like the Fox's had a point to prove. They took the lead thanks to a James Kazmierczak goal half way through the first half, they then doubled this lead through a volley from captain Robert Kinnay on the stroke of half time. The icing on the cake came ten minutes from the end when a trademark pass and move play culminated in substitute Esteban Morova scoring the teams third goal. This success proves that the World Cup victory wasn't a fluke and in terms of the teams manager Dame Julia McCabe it fills up her medal cabinet she's now won everything at club and international level that's currently available, after the game she spoke to us: "It was a great performance we've spent the whole tournament having to cope with the pressure of being the world champions of being the team everyone's gunning for and being the team that cannot afford to slip up. We played well we played our style of quick passing and movement, we kept hold of the ball and once we had the game at our pace the victory was never in doubt. I'm happy for the players they deserve this." In other football news the Achkaerin women's team took the bronze medal, two medals from two football style events so far as hopes high for the Futsal. Away from Football Sabrina Pilling took the women's singles gold in the squash with a hard fought victory over her opponent from Fahrland, the youngster wasn't on anybody's radar for a medal before the games but like so many other Achkaerinese athletes she has surprised and delighted the audiences back home with her performances. |

FOX'S PASS FIFTY  The Achkaerin women's hockey team celebrate following their victory over Zachachevania Day fourteen of the IO Games brought more medals for Achkaerin. The highlight of the day was on the hockey field where the Achkaerin women's team came from behind to beat Zachachevania 2-1 with captain Carol Sand and Sarah Ball scoring the two goals, Sand the equalizer following a penalty corner and Bell a goal from a breakaway that saw her put clear through, round the keeper and fire home. This success is viewed as surprising considering that hockey is not a major sport in Achkaerin, with the exception of on school playing fields however this success also means that Achkaerin holds both this title and the women's ice hockey gold from the winter games a sure sign that women's hockey at least is in good health in Achkaerin. Away from the hockey the major success for Achkaerin's athletes was in the men's javelin where Thomas Knighton took the gold medal, Kelly Higgins took the women's discus silver medal, Kay Hewitt also won a silver medal in the hammer throw. These four medals mean that the Fox's have surpassed the fifty medal mark a concept that was not thought possible at the start of the competition. Also in action was the women's futsal team who booked themselves a gold medal match against the Slavic Federation with a 3-2 win over old rivals Quinntopia. Tomorrow sees arguably the biggest day of competition so far while the hosts will look to gain a measure of revenge against Dijel in the men's rugby seven's, Achkaerin's eyes will be on the Northfort Sports Academy indoor arena where the women's basketball team featuring Crown Princess Serenity Azurewind go for gold against Supreme Sovereignty- there has been one question surrounding this match that has been trending on social media ever since the semi final victories of both nations- just who is Crown Prince Isaac Wesley of Supreme Sovereignty going to root for?
