![]() Welcome to all within the empire and a special welcome to those from across the region who are tuning in for the first time. Crisis Control Unit Launched ![]() Today the Senate of the Holy Achkaerin Empire achieved Royal approval for the newly proposed Crisis Control Unit. The unit is a new state service designed to handle various crisis scenario's. The seal of approval was stamped on the legislation at 11am this morning. Rion Ayanami, 24, (pictured above) has been named as the Crisis Controller. The former Justicar will head up units of specialised personnel in humanitarian and rescue operations. Upon examination of the constitution that governs the unit it appears that unless it is a military situation the Crisis Control Unit has overriding authority in the field, in fact it would appear that the only people the unit cannot pull rank on are the Senate, the Royal Court, the Round Table Conference, Military when situation is dependent, Emperor and heir to the throne. ![]() ![]() SENSATIONAL SUNDAY AT GAMES (left) the women's basketball team- Lydia Daniels (#11), Tenten Taylor (#10), Chihaya Pryde (#4), Trixy Holmes (#15), Serenity Azurewind (#33). (right) the winning points scored by Serenity Azurewind Almost a week on from what was in the Achkaerin media dubbed 'Magic Monday' the athletes of Team Fox have given the people of Achkaerin what's been nicknamed 'Sensational Sunday' with the Fox's walking away with two gold medals, one bronze medal and a shot at a bronze medal in the men's badminton. The highlight of the day was unquestionably the gold medal match in the women's basketball where Achkaerin's team prevailed 71-70 over Supreme Sovereignty- it a high intensity game it came down to the final moments of the fourth quarter with Achkaerin trailing 66-67 with a little over a minute left they gave a masterclass in time control, first taking their time to set up Lydia Daniels for a three pointer and then once Supreme Sovereignty had made their own three to make it 69-70 the Fox's were able to run the clock down and steal the win at the last moment. In other events the Women's Rugby Seven's team managed to win the bronze medal with a 23-20 victory over East Moreland, while the women's baseball team took the gold medal with a 8-7 victory over Rokkenjima. With only three more days of competition to come Achkaerin sit third in the medal table but it's incredibly close that one medal can change everything. |

![]() ![]() FIRST PEGASUS STATION CREW REVEALED (left to right) Stephanie Parker (station commander), Robert Cottee (Medic), Rex Fuma (Engineer), Judith Axon (Scientist) The Achkaerin Space Agency today revealed the astronaut crew that will be the first to man the newly completed Pegasus Station. With the final remote checks completed and all systems registering as operational the time has now come for astronauts to take to the station. The first crew will be led by Stephanie Parker, who will become the first Achkaerin citizen to set foot on the station and thereby claim the title of the first Achkaerin citizen in space she described the mission as "a challenge that I'm ready for." The rest of the crew features doctor Robert Cottee who is hoping "Not to have to render my services", Rex Fuma who describes his mood as "Eager to get my hands on my new toy" and finally Judith Axon who "Can't wait to see it up there." The crew is slated for take off for Pegasus in two days where they will spend the next four months before crew rotation kicks in- this is to incorporate the Trinity mission into the first tour of duty. ![]() ACHKAERIN GIRL IN SAILING MILESTONE ATTEMPT ![]() After weeks of speculation in the Achkaerin sailing community it's official Eleanor Hendry (18) is going to attempt to take sailing to new waters by being the youngest person to sail solo around the world. Eleanor is a student at the Riviere Corporation Technology College, where she presently works in the Computer and Electronics Division for her apprenticeship, she originally hails from Valtheim though moved to Avalon some years ago where she became part of the sailing community through her father who tragically died whilst planning the very voyage that Eleanor will now attempt. The sailing community in Achkaerin is upbeat about her talent and ability and with the ship being specially built by Riviere Corporation there seems to be little left to chance. And as if that wasn't enough Eleanor also has her eyes on the fastest solo circumnavigation record- the current record stands at 82 days, Eleanor's plan is to accomplish this in 52 days an accomplishment which would see her shave thirty days off the record. We will of course provide updates as this story develops. ![]() AKB48 TAKES HARMONIC BATTLE CROWN In a surprise to the established music community within Achkaerin AKB48 have followed up their Christmas number one achievement with victory in the annual Harmonic contest. The Harmonic contest is essentially a battle of the bands style competition where entrants are required to perform a set list of five songs. AKB48's winning set list being Aruji Naki Sono Koe, Ume Wa Nando Mo Umare Kawaru, Iwake Maybe, Heavy Rotation and Beginner. There had been rumours that due to a possible tour that AKB48 wouldn't be able to compete but that was quickly dismissed though the rumours of upcoming tours of various countries do remain though there have been no specific details from the bands management. ![]() MORE GOLDS AT GAMES Day Sixteen of the IO Games brought two more golds for team Fox first Xiaoyu Park took the women's heptathlon gold while in the women's futsal Achkaerin took the gold medal defeating the Slavic Federation 2-1, the coach of both the men's and women's futsal teams Mika Dawson (the current manager of Leonaise F.C) said she was "delighted to come away from the games with a quarter final finish and a gold medal." However it was a different story in the Puissance where Emperor Peter Azurewind was forced to withdraw in the warm up for the event when his horse Titan shod a shoe, however the Emperor remained upbeat stating that "These things happen in sport, sometimes things go your way but sometimes this can happen and there's always next time." ![]() ![]() (left) women's 400m gold medalist Megan Pearl (right and in red and white) women's 200m gold medalist Emma Cartwright The final day of the athletics program at the I.O Games brought two golds on the track for Achkaerin, with Megan Pearl running a controlled and steady race to take the four hundred metres gold, she ran steady through the first two hundred metres before attacking the final bend to take the gold. There was further success in the women's two hundred metres with Emma Cartwright managing to win a close run sprint with the Ndambian and Quinntopian athletes to nick the gold medal. Away from the athletics arena there was one more gold won by Achkaerin on the penultimate day of competition with Sazame Hatake adding to her individual katana gold by taking the women's individual archery gold. With just one day of competition left Team Fox does have the opportunity to finish on top of the medal table but the odds of that are very long, since it would require Achkaerin to win both the archery team gold medals and while there's every chance that the women can accomplish that which is due to them being Maiden Sisters of Luna Isle the chances for Achkaerin's men are not rated highly. |

![]() ![]() SENATE WINS LONG PARTY BATTLE Consul Michael Williams talks to the press earlier today After months of infighting in the Achkaerin political establishment Consul Michael Williams was today able to give an announcement that he's been wanting to give for his entire term as Consul. That announcement was: "Starting Monday the Achkaerin political landscape will change, for generation after generation since the civil war we've elected independent senators to represent the people of this country which is a fine system but it's a very complicated one with level upon level of bureaucracy. As you know throughout my term as Consul the Senate has no less than five times sent the Bill calling for the incorporation of political parties to the Royal Court and four times it has been rejected, not this time however, this time it has finally gone through. So I can say this- in the coming days you can expect the new political landscape of this country to take shape." The question that will be on many people's lips is why it's taken so long to get this passed into law. The answer is simple enough the Royal Court when it votes includes all the nobility of Achkaerin and the leading members of the various faiths, the late Cardinal of Valtheim Richard Derringer was this Bills greatest opponent believing that it took too much power from where it had been entrusted, however on this occasion the church bloc currently taking a lead from their interim leader Master Li Katsuragi of Luna Isle remained neutral on the matter by largely abstaining from the vote and therefore allowing it to pass for it's confirmation vote back in the Senate. We will bring you information of these new political parties as it becomes available. ELEANOR HENDRY UNVEILS HER ROUTE ![]() Following a successful test of her yacht on Foxton Lake, Eleanor Hendry today showed the world the route she is hoping will take her around the world in fifty two days: ![]() The route begins with departure from Valkyria and heads west looping over the northern coast of Alba Karinya with a turn towards the south west, just getting that far is expected to take a week. Following an expected further two weeks out on the seas she will pass Dartfordia heading west towards the Matilda Canals once through the straits there the route continues to a south to north run through the Illumic channel before looping east to finish at Avalon. The most worrying aspect about the journey is the second stage- the two weeks on the open ocean if anything goes wrong out there including injury then the chances of help getting there to make any difference are very remote. ![]() RIVIERE CORPORATION RELEASES TEMPORAL ONE SMART WATCH Riviere Corporation today launched it's newest product, the Temporal One. It's a smart watch which is to say that it comes equipped with a lot of the gadgetry you can find on your smart phone except it's around your wrist rather than in your pocket. The Temporal One has a version of Riviere Corporation's operating system installed on it and is capable of functions such as math calculations, maintaining a daily planner, use as an internet hotspot, telling time (obviously), a functioning compass, emergency beacon and language translation. This marks the first product released since Catriona Rowan took the helm as CEO of Riviere Corporation. It is believed that demand for the Temporal One will be high both domestically and across Mundus. ![]() HEROES WELCOME FOR ATHLETES The 'Golden Fox' touching down at Leonaise airport Following their tremendous success at the IO Games where they won sixty three medals (thirty five gold, twelve silver and seventeen bronze) team Fox today returned to Achkaerin, arriving in the countries sports city of Leonaise. Upon their return they were greeted by hundreds of supporters who lined the streets of the city for their victory procession. It has been a games full of highlights for Achkaerin's athletes where they have not only continued to show their strength in some areas such as cycling and football but where they have also shown surprising ability in other areas where they aren't traditionally strong such as gymnastics. Of great importance to the athletes were their performances in the team events, and their performances there are ones they can be proud of, there will be a more in depth review of the games in the coming days but for the moment the athletes smiles and the crowds joy say it all. ![]() ![]() ![]() LOVE NEVER DIES... IT JUST WAITS ![]() ![]() Prince Simon Azurewind and Lydia Daniels News has broken in the last few hours that there is to be a Royal wedding in Achkaerin. Prince Simon is to marry long term girlfriend Lydia Daniels, the head of Royal Household Security and personal aide to Crown Princess Serenity, they were dating prior to the Prince's incarceration at the hands of the Elsifs and have recently picked up where they left off. No other details are forthcoming at this time except that the Prince proposed during dinner at the Blue Rose restaurant in Avalon. These included the traditional mass weddings in Mykala, Djana-Ville and Azureton, this year a record 2000 happy couples tied the knot in these festivals. This is an increase of 700 from last year and as the festival gains popularity with each year thoughts are already turning to next year and the logistical challenges thereof. |

![]() ![]() POLITICAL PARTIES VOLUME ONE ![]() ![]() Top row- Consul Michael Williams and Senator Syusuke Park Bottom row- banners of their respective parties, the Unity Party and the Endeavour Party In the first of a number of articles we at the Achkaerin News Service will introduce you to the new political parties of Achkaerin, we start with what are tipped to be the main two parties, the Unity Party led by the present Consul Michael Williams and the Endeavour Party led by Senator Syusuke Park. The Unity Party is formed very much in the image of its leader and that will bring comfort to Achkaerin's voters since they know that Michael Williams stands for a continuation of the green environmental policies since they were his policies in the first place, they know therefore that the parties commitments to look at reform of the CIS (a political hot potato both here and abroad) are also the real deal, it is believed that such reforms would be carefully talked through with the CIS ambassador before being put to the CIS Council. This is the party that at the outset is expected to win the most seats at the next elections but no one's sure whether that will be enough for a majority government or whether a coalition will be needed. The Endeavour Party as the name suggests aims at the prosperity of Achkaerin through hard working citizens. It cites increases in taxation and slight reductions in the military as ways of increasing the nations prosperity, it also seeks to open negotiations with nearer neighbours rather than place emphasis on relations with nations on the other side of the world "Achkaerin has the opportunity to be a leader in this world and it cannot lead if we only do business with other great nations." is a statement coming out of the party's HQ. ![]() SURPRISE ON LES MIS FINAL NIGHT On the final night of Les Miserable's current run in Avalon there was a surprise for the audience. Following the finale as an encore the cast were joined on stage by actors who had played the part of Jean Valjean from seventeen countries across Mundus, making for a total of eighteen Valjean's, Achkaerin's Rod Hurst was joined by Valjean's from East Moreland, Dartfordia, Rokkenjima, Dijel, Sky Coast, Aeternum, Seaforth, Supreme Sovereignty, Dyfedia, Quinntopia, the Slavic Federation, Novincia, Ndambia, UNP, Tenerland and Svart Hjerte. The surprise was organized by the director and co-producer Joshua Baker (pictured below) When asked for comment Mr Baker gave the following statement: "It just seemed fitting, we've recently seen unity for the LGBT movement through music at Mundus Pride and the thing is that there are powerful messages woven into this musical, messages and themes that the audience are well aware of either in advance or become aware of as the story unravels in front of them so to show the universal understanding of that message what better way than to have eighteen people playing the same character on stage singing two of the most significant songs in the whole production?" |

![]() ![]() DARTFORDIA COMING TO MERIDIAN ISLAND ![]() ![]() (left) Minister of Foreign Affairs- Senator Gordon Laithwaite (right) Queen Cecelia Military Base's Naval facilities When the treaty of friendship between Achkaerin and Rokkenjima was signed, the leasing of Meridian Island was perhaps the most eyebrow raising part of it- under the treaty Achkaerin agreed to lease Meridian Island to Rokkenjima and to allow the construction of a military base on the island. On New Years Day this year Queen Cecelia Military Base was declared operational and so it was that Rokkenjima gained a military base in the Great Northern Sea. The arrangement was mutually beneficial at the time since Rokkenjima got a much needed base in the area and in exchange Achkaerin gained a much more stable situation in the Illumic, the big advantage though was the forging of closer ties between the two respective nations. Now though following announcements made yesterday by the Dartfordian Government it seems that as well as Rokkenjiman personnel, QCMB would now play host to Dartfordian personnel and assets. This issue dominated debate for much of the day in the Senate, with the intensity of the debate rising the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Senator Gordon Laithwaite laying out the government's position with the following statement:
Shortly following this statement there was indeed a vote which passed with three hundred and ninety in favour and one hundred and nine opposing. The vote received royal certification from Emperor Peter shortly thereafter. However this does show that foreign policy is set up to be a big issue in the upcoming elections. ![]() "FMN CLAIMS NONSENSICAL" SAYS MARBLE PALACE ![]() ![]() (left) Picture from the press conference that started the story (right) Royal Family Press Secretary Hannah Cartwright Following the publication of a particularly offensive article by the Free Mundus Network, the Marble Palace has released an official statement describing the "FMN claims as nonsensical." the article in question made implications linking Crown Prince Isaac of Supreme Sovereignty (who is in a relationship with Crown Princess Serenity) with Sakura Shepard, the cousin of Prince Simon and Crown Princess Serenity, citing behaviour whilst delivering a press statement at the Commonwealth Convention as evidence of a relationship, Hannah Cartwright the Press Secretary to the Achkaerin Royal Family today delivered the following statement on behalf of the Royal Family.
![]() POLITICAL PARTIES VOLUME TWO ![]() ![]() Top Row- (left) Senator Madison Gayle (right) Senator Jinpachi Akido Bottom Row- Their respective party banners the Liberal Party and Achkaerin Workers Alliance In our second installment introducing Achkaerin's political parties we today bring you the Liberal Party and the Achkaerin Workers Alliance. The Liberal Party are led by experienced Senator Madison Gayle, the party advocates what they call 'common sense' politics including ideas such as increasing taxes on those who can afford it, religious equality and the improvement of the armed forces equipment. They also advocate the case for Achkaerin to join the Cross-Straits Union pointing out that Achkaerin's allies are within the CIS and the CSU so to join the latter would make sense. The Liberal Party is seen by many bookmakers as the most realistic chance for the first female Consul in the Senate's history. The Achkaerin Workers Alliance are led by outspoken Senator Jinpachi Akido, the party calls for the public to have to ratify all laws that the Senate passes, a review of all existing treaty commitments, a 'pay as you drive' taxation policy to fund environmental projects as well as increasing the minimum joining age for the military to be increased from sixteen to eighteen. ![]() NEW FACES AT RIVIERE (left to right) Leonardo Miyanaga, Robyn Bamford, Ako Suzuno and Katy Hammond Following weeks of careful discussions and thorough interviews Riviere Corporation today unveiled their new faces. Joining CEO Catriona Rowan and Corporation Legal Officer Neil Hughton on the Executive Board will be Leonardo Miyanaga who will chair both the shareholder's board and also the executive board at meetings, his responsibilities will also include being the second in command to the CEO. The new Corporation Secretary is Ako Suzuno, Robyn Bamford becomes the first dedicated press spokesperson in Riviere Corporation's history while rounding off the new faces is Katy Hammond who will have the daunting job of being Catriona Rowan's personal assistant. All four of them have admitted to varying degrees of nerves about their new roles but looking at their qualifications it is very clear that they are capable of doing their jobs- Leonardo Miyanaga attended one of the finest universities in Dartfordia, Robyn Bamford studied journalism in Rokkenjima, Ako Suzuno learned her trade in East Moreland all three of them have high class honours from their respective universities. Katy Hammond on the other hand comes to the job fresh out of high school having apparently displayed great 'strength of character' during the interview. The Achkaerin News Service approached former Riviere CEO Francisco Riviere for his thoughts on the new team as it were and he stated that "It's very much a team you'd expect from Catriona." so with a ringing endorsement from her predecessor, Catriona Rowan looks to keep Riviere Corporation at the forefront of an ever more competitive market with the latest addition being the Cerberus Collective in Quinntopia. |

![]() ![]() POLITICAL PARTIES VOLUME THREE ![]() ![]() Top row- (left) Senator Gareth Quinn, leader of the Progressive Party (right) Senator Vincent Nightingale, leader of the Independent Party In our third volume featuring Achkaerin's new political parties we turn our attention to two of the smaller parties, the Progressive Party and the Independent Party. The Progressive Party focus's on the continued development of Achkaerin as a nation by pushing the boundaries in other areas. They seek to continue the development of Achkaerin's energy policy with the development of nuclear power and the controversial process known as fracking, they also plan to introduce tuition fees for higher education and in the field of government reform they plan to remove the clergy from the Royal Court and to remove the Monarch's final say as a practical tool and to make the signature more of a convention in a nod to tradition. The Progressive Party is seen as an outside bet for the government and more realistically as a coalition partner. The Independent Party is a party of individuals that prefer the current composition of the Senate- in that the Senate is made up of people elected to represent individual constituencies rather than elected to represent an agenda. They intend to fight their elections by defending their individual records. This party is not regarded as even the most remote hopeful for election but they will appeal to the more elderly generation with their sense for traditional Achkaerin politics. |

![]() ![]() PEGASUS CREW EN ROUTE ![]() In the early hours of this morning the first manned Achkaerin space flight lifted off. The shuttle named Bellerophon is carrying the first crew of Pegasus Station- Stephanie Parker, Robert Cottee, Rex Fuma and Judith Axon. The Achkaerin Space Agency has reported a good launch, it is understood that the Bellerophon will make a single orbit of Mundus before docking at Pegasus Station. The only minor concern was the launch time, originally it had been slated for launch this afternoon but the as ever unpredictable winter weather systems especially in the Achkaerin storm season forced the launch to be brought forward to the early hours of the morning. The Achkaerin Space Agency's focus now turns to the Trinity Mission with an announcement concerning the crew and further details expected in the coming days. ![]() POLITICAL PARTIES VOLUME FOUR ![]() ![]() Top row- (left) Senator Nigel Robinson (right) Senator Brian McHale Bottom row- Banners of their respective parties In our final volume focusing on Achkaerin's political parties we bring you information on the remaining three parties. The Republican Party, led by Senator Nigel Robinson is not considered a major force in the political image of things because they advocate the continuation of the status quo in most areas and only minor changes in others such as the semi privatization of the health service. Their major policy will come as no surprise- they seek the abolition of the monarchy and Royal Court as legislative powers with the Consul taking over as the head of state. However given that support for the monarchy is high this is not likely to be a fulfilled message. The Puritan Party led by the outspoken Senator Brian McHale is the most controversial and extreme political party of all the Achkaerin parties. They press forward a policy of 'Achkaerin citizens first' including the removal of non Achkaerin born citizens from the legislative bodies and the military. They also advocate the withdrawal of Achkaerin from the CIS and the reclamation of Meridian Island. The party is seen mainly as a protest vote and is not forecast to do that well during the elections. ![]() (left) Senator Rhian Kennedy (right) the Patriot Party's Banner The final political party of Achkaerin is the Patriot Party who describe themselves as 'not what it sounds like' judging by the name the party sound similar to other nationalist parties however they aren't. The party is led by the youngest Senator of the current Senate- Senator Rhian Kennedy, they place great emphasis on education and foreign policy in terms of education they include education provisions for those in the military. In foreign policy the Patriot Party seeks to reform the CIS as well as making strides to joining other organizations including the AKO and the CSU, the first of these would also give a much needed boost to the city of Gowu. Given that they're led by the youngest Senator in Achkaerin history this party is expected to do very well in terms of the young person and first time voter shares. |

![]() ![]() NEO GOWU PLANS UNVEILED ![]() Artists impression of Neo Gowu Having considered the deteriorating situation in Zimalia, the government of Achkaerin following discussions with their counterparts in Gowu have today confirmed that the overseas territory of Gowu is to be abandoned, its people evacuated and rehoused in a new city. This city is the subject of something unveiled today- the Neo Gowu City Project an ambitious project to create a new city on Meridian Island, in order to be achieved the project has been opened up to the international community and has already attracted interest from companies based in East Moreland, Dartfordia and Rokkenjima. The project is intended to be led by Riviere Corporation and will could potentially mark the first time that rivals Riviere Corporation and Abstergo Industries have worked together. ![]() RIVIERE ANNOUNCES GENE-AWARE ![]() ![]() The Gene-Aware final rendering and it's mastermind Doctor Tammy Axon Riviere Corporation today unveiled its latest product, Gene-Aware. The product is intended for use in the fields of science and medicine. As for what the Gene-Aware does it functions similar to a powerful microscope in that the machine conducts analysis of a patient by video record externally- with internal analysis carried out through sampling of skin, blood and other tissue. It's inception has proved divisive with some calling it 'the start of the slippery slope to genetic engineering' while others hail it as 'revolutionary' and 'a landmark moment'. Gene-Aware is the brain child of Doctor Tammy Axon, the science advisor to the Achkaerin Royal Court and head of Riviere Corporation Genetics Division. She gave us the following statement: "Gene-Aware has the potential to revolutionize how we combat the most serious genetic illnesses and disorders as well as the most serious of conventional medical conditions while it isn't a treatment for anything what it is is a helpful diagnostic tool, in my profession I've seen it many times, you treat patients for what they present with only to lose them to a pre-existing condition that you had no prior knowledge of. Gene-Aware has the capability to run several medical process's that can lead to lives being saved. While it doesn't cure in of itself it does help us understand conditions that we have only the most basic knowledge of- why they exist and where they came from are questions we can potentially answer with this, once we know our enemy we increase our chances of defeating it." Gene-Aware is expected to undergo trials in several undisclosed hospitals before being rolled out nationally should the trials prove successful. ![]() PREPARATIONS UNDERWAY IN LEONAISE Event Coordinator Tabatha Davison With just about a week to go before the big day preparations for the first anniversary of the CIS are well underway in Leonaise, the celebrations are being managed by Tabatha Davison who serves as the building manager at CIS HQ. It is understood that attractions will include a military parade, a rugby union match pitting a joint CIS team against the Dartfordian national team and a music concert. When asked for comment Ms Davison stated that "It's bigger than any event I've ever had to run before but it's not like we're inexperienced in Achkaerin with such events we've hosted the CETO Festival, the Winter Games and the World Cup in recent times we know how to put on events like this." Part of the celebrations will take place internationally with plans for schools in member nations to have a 'CIS day' where pupils learn about the other nations that make up the CIS, as part of the celebrations the Marble Palace has confirmed that Lady Sakura Shepard, accompanied by her boyfriend Carth Vittori is to visit East Moreland. Lady Sakura stated the following in the wake of the announcement: "It's great to get the chance to visit East Moreland whatever the occasion but to do it as part of the CIS's first anniversary just makes it extra special. From what I'm told there are plans for schoolchildren across the CIS nations to engage in traditional games of the other nations, so I'm looking forward to seeing how the kids do with our traditional games such as Shogi, Karuta and Mahjong." At which point Carth added the following: "Notice how she's forgotten to mention that she's the three time national champion at Mahjong." |

![]() ![]() CROWN PRINCESS UNDER THREAT ![]() In a recent broadcast the group known as the Enlightenment released a message calling for the immediate end to the relationship between Crown Princess Serenity and Crown Prince Isaac. When asked for comment the Royal Family Press Secretary Hannah Cartwright gave the following statement. "No one has the right to tell someone who they can and cannot love, this by implication extends to no one being able to tell someone who they can and cannot be in a relationship with, so there will be no seeking or giving advice from either Serenity or Isaac this is a personal matter for them to deal with themselves. I'm also instructed to give the following warning to the Enlightenment group- so far the government of Achkaerin has not been able to take action against you for a variety of more pressing matters and our satisfaction that the government of Supreme Sovereignty is more than capable of handling you- but if you dare make any move against us you will feel the full force of one of Mundus's most advanced military forces this is your only warning." |

![]() VOYAGE START DATE SET ![]() Eleanor Hendry has confirmed that her record attempting voyage a solo circumnavigation of Mundus is scheduled to start on the 12th of March. Confidence in the Achkaerin sailing community is high with many people believing this can be accomplished potentially even quicker than the fifty two day target. However they are under no illusions about the difficulty of the challenge that lies ahead and neither crucially is Eleanor, it is hoped that she will give the Achkaerin News Service an interview before she departs on her voyage but should she not for whatever reason we wish her the best of luck. |

![]() ![]() ROYAL FAMILY TO FACE DAUNTING CHARITY CHALLENGE The Marble Palace has publicly revealed details of the task they've been given for Achkaerin's Charity Weekend in a few weeks time. As is tradition each year the organizers of the event set the Royal Family a challenge designed to be difficult but possible, usually something that is not taken that seriously and done for fun. Previous highlights have included a royal family triathlon against the clock, running three marathons across the weekend and most notably three years ago a twenty four hour basketball match. This years challenge is set to be the most difficult by far though, the family have been tasked with putting together a production of the hit musical Les Miserables. ![]() The Azurewind family are reportedly surprised at the scope of the challenge but they believe they're ready for it. Though they have admitted that they'll probably be calling in friends from across Mundus to help with this. |

![]() ![]() ELEANOR SETS SAIL ![]() At 7am yesterday morning Eleanor Hendry set sail on her world record sailing attempt, she is attempting to become the first woman to ever sail solo around the world, she would also become the youngest person to ever accomplish this feat if she succeeds. However it is the prize of being the fastest around the world that she most desires setting herself the challenge of completing the voyage in 52 days. The Achkaerin News Service will bring regular updates on her progress and wishes her the best of luck. ![]() CONSUL EXPECTED TO DISSOLVE SENATE WITHIN 24 HOURS Mere weeks after the establishment of Achkaerin's political parties, the end of the Senate cycle is approaching. As such it is widely expected that Consul Michael Williams will head to the Marble Palace within the next twenty four hours to request the dissolution of the Senate so that the campaigning will begin in earnest. No one is putting much stock in opinion polls given that this style of election has never occurred in Achkaerin before but the Consul is according to these polls the most likely to become the first Consul elected by the people. Though whether any one party can achieve an outright majority in the 499 elected senate seats is yet to be seen. Most political commentators are expecting that the first Achkaerin elections to feature political parties will result in a coalition situation. Though no party leaders have yet declared who they are willing and unwilling to work with in government. |

![]() ![]() SENATE DISSOLVED: ELECTION CAMPAIGNING BEGINS ![]() As expected today the Marble Palace announced that Consul Michael Williams had requested the dissolution of the Senate and that the request had been granted. This means that over the next few weeks[1] the leaders of the nine political parties will jockey for position in an attempt to earn as many Senate seats as they can. Much about the parties policies are still unclear, however the election watchdog- Informative Voting, has stated that "No one will go to the polls without every effort being made to clearly communicate what each party stands for." Informative Voting has announced that plans are in place for a leaders debate closer to polling day, this along with the weekly political show Question Time should it is hoped give politics the required amount of detailed exposure. The Achkaerin News Service will also provide extensive coverage. So now that the book has been torn up, the political future of Achkaerin is more uncertain than it ever has been before, but with moments such as this come great opportunities, the question now is who will seize that opportunity? [1] OOC- realistically this is only going to be two weeks or so in RL terms. |

![]() ![]() ANNIVERSARY PARTY ROCKS LEONAISE ![]() After all the hype and buildup the CIS Anniversary celebrations lit up the city of Leonaise, as the leaders of all six member countries came together for the first time in the Achkaerin city of Leonaise. The focal point for public celebrations of the organisations first year was the Leonaise Arena where following a military parade through the city the soldiers of the CIS were honoured for their actions over the last year specifically focusing on the two engagements in Safraen, the tensions with Veashak during the Matilda Canals incident and most recently for action seen in Seaforth. Receiving the first Safraen honour was Lt Chloe Taki of the armoured corp, Lt Sean Doherty of the marine corp received the Matilda's honour, Major Sapyiat Kaltev of the Achkaerin Special Forces received the honour for the reunification of Safraen while the honour for Seaforth action was received by Captain Fleur Mishima of the armoured corp. The celebrations also featured a Rugby Union game between a team combining all six CIS nations nicknamed the 'CIS Lions' and the Dartfordian national team- considering the dominance of certain CIS nations in the field of rugby it wasn't really that much of a surprise that the CIS ran out 45-10 winners. The big surprise though was to come in the form of the singing Emperor as Emperor Peter Azurewind took to the stage to sing with noted musical theatre star Renee Sandiego and the Achkaerin band New Directions. The Emperor not noted for his public singing put in what's been described as a pleasantly surprising performance. It is believed that the Emperor's decision to perform was partially motivated by the upcoming performance of Les Miserables on Achkaerin's big charity weekend. ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATED ACROSS MUNDUS ![]() In a related story Sakura Shepard, niece to the Emperor and cousin of Prince Simon and Crown Princess Serenity, visited East Moreland to experience the celebrations there, joined by her boyfriend Carth Vittori the pair spent the day with the same class of students in an East Moreland school. They have since described the experience as "Wonderful." though ms Shepard refused to comment on whether she preferred what she'd seen of the East Moreland education practices to those she experienced during her high school years in Dartfordia. ![]() ![]() ROYAL FAMILY UNVEILS LES MISERABLES CAST FOR CHARITY MUSICAL ![]() Following days of speculation, including the surprise performance of Emperor Peter at the CIS Anniversary celebrations in Leonaise, the Royal Family has today unveiled the cast list for their production of Les Miserables.
The casting does throw up some surprises, the casting of the Emperor of Rokkenjima as Javert is sure to be a talking point, but for once it is not the Rokkenjiman Emperor who makes the headlines but his daughter as Princess Adrianna Anselmo has been cast in the role of the young Eponine. The production is to be directed by noted Musical Director Joshua Baker who also stars in the production as Brujon, one of Thenardier's gang, he gave the following statement following the releasing of the cast list. "The leading members of the cast took care of themselves really, since we're against the clock myself and the other people involved in producing this show took the decision to cast parts where possible in groupings, that is to say we're aware that Prince Simon has a busy schedule so in order to give him the best chance to learn the part of Marius we cast his fiance Lydia as Cosette and since Marius and Cosette both have instances with Eponine we cast Crown Princess Serenity as Eponine. This approach is seen further down the list with the way that Thenardier and Madame Thenardier are played by a couple from Supreme Sovereignty. The current plan is to get the supporting cast together for rehearsals, so they can learn the choreography fortunately we have people involved in this who have experience in the musical theatre world, the likes of Renee Sandiego, Danielle Sullivan, Michael Nolan to name but a few. We're hoping that if we get the supporting cast performing right, then we can get those people playing the principal parts integrated more quickly and thus cut down on the amount of times we need to go through the production as a full rehearsal. The hardest parts to find people for were always going to be the younger versions of Cosette and Eponine as well as Gavroche fortunately the younger Eponine being a silent part meant that we were able to cheekily ask the Rokkenjiman Emperor about the possibility of casting Princess Adriana when we cast him as Javert. A simple phone call from Crown Princess Serenity resolved the issue of the young Cosette as for Gavroche well we've picked a Seaforthian refugee, this is for charity and it's important that we remember that in the way we do this." ![]() ![]() CAMPAIGNS ENTER FINAL STAGES: TWO HORSE RACE? With just a matter of days before the voters of Achkaerin go to the polls to decide who will be the country's next Consul, the latest opinion polls suggest that either the present incumbent Consul Michael Williams who leads the Unity Party or Senator Syusuke Park who leads the Endeavour Party will lead their party to the most seats. However the opinion polls also suggest that neither party will reach the magic number of 250 seats required for a majority in the Senate since they currently poll as neck and neck. This had led to much speculation surrounding the suspected third party- the Liberal Party as to who its leader Senator Madison Gayle might be prepared to work with in coalition. Whether a coalition will be needed or not is not yet determined of course. However it would seem that it is the performance of the supporting cast that will determine where Achkaerin's future. politically speaking, lies. |

![]() ![]() RIVIERE UNVEILS PEGASI JET ![]() Riviere Corporation today announced the development of the Pegasi type stealth jet. The Corporation's press secretary Robyn Bamford spoke only to announce the development of the Pegasi and explain that it's designed to deliver its payload from a variety of ranges and that it is also intended to be able to get in and out of the target area as fast as possible. It is not expected that the Pegasi will replace the Raven as Achkaerin's main bomber aircraft, since the Pegasi is notably more costly to develop and maintain. The Pegasi is expected to undergo its final development testing and then be showcased at the upcoming CIS Military Expo before entering service. ![]() FOX'S READY FOR CONFEDERATION CHALLENGE ![]() "The Confederation Cup is just around the corner and Achkaerin's Fox's are ready for it." were the words of coach David Nightingale today, as he announced the Achkaerin squad for the Confederation Cup: 1. Daniel Hakate (Prop) 2. Charles Nikaido (Loose Head) 3. Jack Colt (Tight Head) 4. Peter Matthews (Second Row) 5. Shaun Davies (Second Row) 6. Keith Hughes (Open Side Flanker) 7. Brian Hennessey (Blind side Flanker) 8. Luke Wiltshire (Fly Half) 9. Oscar Reynolds (Scrum Half) 10. Tovan Holtz (Captain) (Number Eight) 11. Samuel Wilson (Inside Centre) 12. Phillip Dawson (Outside Centre) 13. Simon Colt (Left Wing) 14. Jason Leonidas (Full Back) 15. George Bolt (Right Wing) 16. Johnny Ransome (Prop) 17. Matthew Sadler (Fly Half) 18. Harry Knight (Second Row) 19. Ralph Kendal (Scrum Half) 20. Lucas Ainsworth (Centre) 21. Gary Hayden (Hooker) 22. Percy Kanzaki (Flanker) 23. Norman Irvine (Winger) The Fox's open their campaign against Seaforth at the Fox's Den and there are hopes that home field advantage will help get the team off to a good start ahead of the more difficult matches down the road. As for the chances of the Fox's winning the Cup itself coach Nightingale was cautiously optimistic stating: "Everyone expects it to be Dijel or East Moreland that lifts the trophy at the end of this and looking at the form book you can see why- they're the rugby powerhouses of that there's no doubt, but we ranked third overall last time this tournament was played, we narrowly lost to Dijel and yes we were well beaten by East Moreland but in sport miracles are possible the fans of Achkaerin sport saw that for themselves mere months ago at the very stadium we play at this weekend. Julia McCabe and the footballers gave Achkaerin its greatest sporting moment to date so we'll believe that in a few weeks we can give them another one." |

![]() ![]() POLLS OPEN AS ANALYST'S CALL ELECTION 'TOO CLOSE TO CALL' ![]() A polling station in the Crystalline Valley With many analysts calling the election 'too close to call' we have finally reached polling day after weeks of campaigning for the first time it shall be the people of Achkaerin and not the Senate that decides who the Consul shall be. The polling stations opened at nine o'clock this morning and are expected to remain open until eleven o'clock tonight, the current polls suggest that the Unity Party and Endeavour Party are neck and neck with the Liberal Party forecast by many to take the third most amount of Senate Seats. A record turnout across the nation is expected, as the future of Achkaerin is shaped in the coming hours. ![]() ![]() NYA ALAND CAUTION The Union of Nordic Peoples has been in recent times a popular tourist destination for the people of Achkaerin and arguably a great many people, however following the recent formation of Nya Aland as an independent state concerns have been raised across Mundus most notably by the Viceregent of Rokkenjima and the Prime Minister of Dartfordia. ![]() ![]() ELECTION RESULTS: UNITY PARTY TAKES MOST SEATS BUT NO MAJORITY ![]() The Result With all the votes tallied the results of the Senate elections are now official, the Unity Party led by the incumbent Consul Michael Williams won the most seats but still finished quite a way short of the 250 seat requirement for a majority, the full results are: Unity Party- 188 seats Endeavour Party- 150 seats Liberal Party- 70 seats Patriot Party- 74 seats Progressive Party- 6 seats Achkaerin Workers Alliance- 3 seats Independent Party- 2 seats Republican Party- 3 seats Puritan Party- 3 seats Summary of the Night Following the closing of the polls, the voting began. The early success belonged to the Patriot Party as they won the first six seats that were declared, including the traditional first constituency to declare- Foxton Lake which returned the present Minister of Culture Bonnie Harper, the other five success's for the Patriot party early doors being the five constituencies in Neo Gowu. Consul Michael Williams retained his Senate seat by winning the constituency of Valtheim's temple district, his wife Senator Siobhan Williams, the present minister for the environment and agriculture won the neighbouring constituency of Valtheim's market district. The biggest shock of the night was Terry O'Neil the Minister of Defence losing his Senate seat to the Progressive Party candidate. Adam Shepard former ambassador to the CIS won the Leonaise north seat for the Unity party. The Endeavour Party as expected dominated Dovah province, winning the Achkaerin industrial heartland with ease. The Liberal Party made more gains than had been expected as well, with their leader Senator Madison Gayle calling the night 'A greater success than we could have dreamed off.' But the night belonged to the Patriot Party and it was probably fitting that with its leader Senator Rhian Kennedy being returned as Senator for the Crystalline Valley that the chances of a majority for anyone were taken away. What Next? With 188 seats the Unity Party stand 62 seats short of the required 250 seats and so could enter a coalition with either the Patriot Party or the Liberal Party to obtain the majority required, the Endeavour Party requires the agreement of both the Liberal and Patriot Party to form a government. There has been much speculation that Michael Williams will seek a coalition with the Liberal Party due to Senator Gayle's proven track record, but there has been no official comment at this time. However all eyes in the political arena will be on Senator Madison Gayle and Senator Rhian Kennedy in the coming hours and possibly days. In terms of the immediate future it is expected that the Unity and Endeavour Party leaders will come to an agreement that will see the initial continuation of the legislative process in Achkaerin until a government is formed. ![]() FOX'S BEAT WOLVES IN CONFEDERATION CUP OPENER Achkaerin 18-3 Seaforth ![]() Scrum Half Oscar Reynolds was in fine form in the match The Fox's Den played host to Achkaerin's opening game of the Confederation Cup, it was always going to be an interesting game since Achkaerin had never played Seaforth before. There was a pre-match silence in memory of those who had fallen during recent events in Seaforth- during what is now commonly referred to as the 'Eugenics War'. As for the game itself it was decided by Achkaerin's kicking game, Oscar Reynolds backed up his impressive display in the CIS Lions v Dartfordia game with a very successful kicking game. The first try of the game was scored by Jason Leonidas in the first half, it was converted, the only other try came in the second half following a trademark lineout drive and though the conversion was missed the addition of two successful penalties gave the Fox's their winning margin of 18-3. The Fox's will next play defending champions Dijel in a game that should they win will see the Fox's firmly in the championship hunt and while a defeat would not necessarily condemn their chances to nothing it would make the scenario of winning the championship a whole lot harder. |

![]() ![]() GOVERNMENT FORMED AS UNITY AND PATRIOT JOIN FORCES Consul Michael Williams and Vice-Consul Rhian Kennedy Following a weekend of uncertainty it has today been revealed that Achkaerin has a new government. In a shock move Michael Williams the incumbent Consul prior to the elections has elected to form a government with the Patriot Party. Many political commentators had expected the Consul to form a coalition with the Liberal Party which would have seen the coalition hold 258 seats in the Senate but would have seen the Unity Party join forces with a party of experienced Senators led by Madison Gayle. However the Consul instead went for the Patriot Party which sees the coalition partners hold a total of 262 seats in the Senate however the trade off is that with a few notable exceptions many of the Patriot Party are younger more inexperienced Senators. A fair example of the inexperience within the Patriot Party is their leader Senator Rhian Kennedy already the youngest Senator in Achkaerin history prior to the elections she now becomes the youngest Vice-Consul in history as well as the first woman to hold that position. The rest of the released cabinet sees some familiar faces- Bonnie Harper of the Patriot Party returns as minister of culture, Lizbeth Stewart of the Unity Party retains her portfolio as minister of home affairs, Gordon Laithwaite also of the Unity Party retains his position as minister of Foreign Affairs. The big headline though is that Adam Shepard formerly the ambassador to the CIS is brought straight into the cabinet as minister of defence. The new Government has also outlined some of its initial goals for the first few weeks of its tenure, it intends to tackle matters such as the Commonwealth, the Mundus Development Bank, the CIS as well as a more proactive foreign policy. However the biggest headline is an announced intention to seek admission to the Cross-Straits Union. Potentially a controversial move but one supported by the biggest names in Achkaerin business. So with the coalition now formerly announced the Achkaerin Senate now looks like the following: ![]() Pale Blue: Unity Party- 188 seats Pink: Patriot Party- 74 seats Red: Endeavour Party- 150 seats Yellow: Liberal Party- 70 seats Dark Blue: Progressive Party- 6 seats Maroon: Achkaerin Workers Alliance- 3 seats White: Independent Party- 2 seats Peach: Republican Party- 3 seats Black: Puritan Party- 3 seats It is expected that within the next few days the Consul and Vice-Consul will give the Achkaerin News Service an interview where more information about their plans may be forthcoming. |

![]() ![]() NEW NAVAL CRAFT FOR IMPERIAL NAVY ![]() The Achkaerin Imperial Navy today saw the first of it's new class of ships named and commissioned, the 'Fast Frigate' henceforth known as the Narnia class is a joint venture between the nations of Achkaerin, East Moreland, Seaforth, Rokkenjima, Dartfordia and Quinntopia. The ceremony took place in East Moreland and was handled by Emperor Peter Azurewind prior to his expected attendance at the birthdays of Prince Caspian and Princess Rhiannon. The Achkaerin ship named by the Emperor is to be called the INS Aslan, with a further seven craft expected to enter service with the Imperial Navy in the coming weeks. The Emperor's attendance had been up in the air especially considering the situation with regards to Crown Princess Serenity, however in some circles the decision to attend is seen as a show of faith in the search and rescue effort. ACHKAERIN TO JOIN CROSS STRAITS UNION? ![]() Not really a surprise but it's now official the new Achkaerin government has submitted a formal application to join the Cross-Straits Union. Citing isolation from other potential markets and treaties with other nations as the main motivation behind the move Consul Michael Williams and Vice-Consul Rhian Kennedy have flown to Dartfordia for talks with CSU representatives to discuss the means by which Achkaerin may join the organisation. The biggest potential obstacle is thought to be Achkaerins membership of the CIS, which unless addressed in any agreement to join the CSU could see something of a loophole established for other CIS nations to trade by the back door. This is something the Achkaerin government is keen to avoid. ![]() ACHKAERIN STARS ROAR THROUGH IN AMCIN CHAMPIONSHIPS Kimberley Ravers was in fine form in her victory over Ife Kihden of Ndambia Achkaerin's tennis stars once more displayed their skill this time in the Amcin championships, while Eleanor Truesdale lost in three sets the other two women powered through Melody Cartwright in straight sets over Tytor's Elizabeth Turner and Kimberley Ravers coming from a set down to win over Ndambia's Ife Kihden. On the men's side Jin Ayanami went down in straight sets but Kevin Nikaido progressed in straight sets, as did world number one David H'Daen, back after an injury scare in Dyfedia he survived an early scare and won through in four sets. However the result of the round from an Achkaerin point of view belongs to Kimberley Ravers the youngster who won mixed doubles gold at the recent IO Games is showing no signs of letting up in her attempt to climb up the rankings. |

![]() ![]() CHAMPIONS LEAGUE DRAW GIVES ACHKAERIN TEAMS OPPORTUNITY The draw for the group stages of the Mundus Champions League is 'favorable and opportunity presenting' according to the Achkaerin national team manager Dame Julia McCabe. The draw sees Avalon F.C pitted against Haifa United from Eretz Yacov, Antwerp United from Transvaal and Marantha F.C from Quinntopia in Group B, Djana-Ville Wanderers find themselves in Group F also up against Quinntopian opposition in the form of Emancipa United as well as Dijel's Dijelibeybi F.C and Nya Aland's IFK Krokom. Valtheim United are in Group H alongside Eilat Strikers from Eretz Yacov, Royal F.C from East Moreland and Harchester United from Dartfordia. Finally Achkaerin League champions Leonaise F.C are in group D alongside Alunda United from Ndambia, Tel-Aviv United from Eretz Yacov and the Chupacabras from Nueva Ardia. While the fans are understandably optimistic about the chances of all four Achkaerin teams progressing to the knockout stages a note of caution has been sounded by the four managers Mika Dawson, Peter Massey, Timothy Cohen and Richard Doyle who manage Leonaise F.C, Valtheim United, Avalon F.C and Djana-Ville Wanderers respectively- they have stated that 'while we are confident of qualification for the knockout stages of the competition we are well aware of how strong the clubs in other nations are so nothing should be taken for granted.' of the four teams Djana-Ville Wanderers are seen as the most vulnerable in terms of the draw, considering the opposition they will face. With the first games approaching fans across the nation are optimistic and with good reason on the international stage Achkaerin hold the World Cup won on home soil and won the hard way, the question is can they prove the same at club level? FOX'S HELD IN NDAMBIA Achkaerin 21-21 Ndambia In the latest round of Confederation Cup match's Achkaerin traveled to Ndambia hoping to bounce back from their defeat to Dijel, in damp conditions neither side gave ground and the honours were shared between the two teams despite gaining a single point in the championship standings it was clear that the Achkaerin coaching staff weren't pleased with the result feeling that it was a game they should have won. This result means that to have a chance of taking the title the Fox's must conquer their away day woes and defeat Supreme Sovereignty by a decent amount of points to give them a chance on the last weekend when they host East Moreland. FORMULA MUNDUS BACK WITH A ROAR Megan Harrison led the race during the middle stages The first race of the new Formula Mundus season in East Moreland marked a good start for Riviere Corporation Racing with number two driver Megan Harrison taking second position and number one driver Z Kennedy finishing eighth. Despite the finishing positions team principal Satella Watts stated that they felt it was a race that they could have won had Megan not been driving a wounded car during the late stages of the race, the issue was later confirmed as being a small gearbox fault. Overall though the result is a good one and the team will look to rectify the problems and work to improve at the next race in Dijel. Edited by Achkaerin, 12th April 2015 - 01:34 PM.

![]() ![]() RETURN OF DRAGON'S FLAME In just a few days time the comet known as 'Dragon's Flame' will pass close to Mundus, the comet last seen over a hundred years ago will pass close enough to give the Achkaerin Space Agency the opportunity to launch the Trinity mission. The Trinity Mission aims to obtain a sample of the comet itself by means of a remote controlled machine. The released mission plan is that the Trinity mission will launch as the comet approaches Mundus and then chase it towards the Sun with the intention of getting close enough to place the science probe named 'Seer' onto the comet's surface directly. The Trinity craft will then pull back and monitor Seer's activity until the comet has completed its run around the sun, following this they will retrieve Seer from the comet and then return to Mundus. The possible pitfalls are numerous, the most dangerous being that Seer must be placed on the comet before passing the planet Nabu, any later than this and there is a serious risk to the craft and astronauts. There's also the risk of losing Seer's signal or Seer simply refusing commands. The crew is expected to be unveiled in the coming days. It is also expected that the Achkaerin Space Agency will be coordinating with their fellow space agencies across Mundus to make sure that as much of this mission goes to plan as possible. ![]() THE WHIRLWIND'S TALE SMASHES BOX OFFICE RECORD actress Renee Sandiego starring as Brianna Azurewind A week on from its release in cinema's across Achkaerin the historic epic The Whirlwind's Tale has smashed the Achkaerin box office record after making over 150 million iso's in its first week. The film is the second installment in Frank Naughton's planned trilogy of films about the war that forged Achkaerin, the first focused on the life of Titus Achkaerin up to and including his coronation as the first Emperor of Achkaerin. This time the film shifts focus to the actions of Brianna Azurewind and the chasing down of the Toshikawan aggressors, the founding of Gowu and the climatic battle of the Three passes. Reprising her role as Brianna Azurewind is noted actress Renee Sandiego who gave the following statement at the film premiere: "It's been a great privilege to play such an important historical character as Brianna or as she was called the Whirlwind. The first film was great because it featured a lot of action which isn't the sort of thing I'm normally known for so it was great to try something new, I got a great sword fight scene and everything. This one's different because I go from being the support character to the main one while the characters of Titus and Morgana move from main characters to supporting roles. It was difficult especially with so many battle scenes to film but we got there and on the bright side I'm in better shape now than I was when we started filming." ![]() ACHKAERIN DOMINANCE IN AMCIN AND AT THE TOP OF THE WORLD (left) Men's champion Kevin Nikaido (right) Women's champion Melody Cartwright The Amcin Tennis Championships brought confirmation of Achkaerin's apparent tennis pedigree as both singles championships were won by Achkaerin players. Kevin Nikaido took the men's title as he defeated Patrick Hoff of Ireden in four sets, he went two sets ahead, had a slight wobble in the third but dispelled any thoughts of a comeback by stepping his game up a gear to win 6-4 in the fourth set. The Achkaerin number two is reportedly delighted at being able to follow in David H'Daen's footsteps and win a major championship. On the women's side Melody Cartwright took the title defeating Simisola Eseniyan of Ndambia in three sets after losing the first on a tiebreak Melody won the second set tiebreak and then took the decider 6-4. The tournament also saw Melody's first tour victory over Violetta Vasilyeva of Quinntopia in the semi finals, having defeated the Quinntopian to win the Gold Medal Match at the IO Games. Melody was understandably ecstatic with her title win having come so close in Braz where she was denied by Vasilyeva. The win for Melody also puts her atop the women's world rankings, while in the men's rankings David H'Daen continues to hold the top spot. Both players have stated that while the ranking positions are great the main prestige is in winning the major championships. Either way though both are expected to be shortlisted for Achkaerin's Sports Personality of the Year in the coming weeks. |

![]() ![]() ROSETIS FOUND IN NUEVA ARDIA AUCTION DRAMA ![]() Today the Achkaerin University of Arts and Culture's archaeology and history department head Doctor Donna Steele made known to the press a very strange story. One of the official authenticators for the CETO Melissa Cunningham a student at the university was scrolling through online auction catalogs when she found by pure chance what appeared to be an ancient sword that was to be auctioned in Nueva Ardia. Given the profound implications if it turned out to belong to a member of the CETO further investigations were carried out as quickly as possible and upon further examination of close up images of what was described in the catalog as 'foreign markings' it became apparent that the sword in question was one forged on Luna Isle, since the 'foreign markings' described in the catalog were actually Ancient Achkaerinese characters. The discoveries and conclusions were drawn too late to stop the auction however not too late to prevent the university bidding on the item. The sword known as Rosetis or Crimson Blade, was bought for the Nueva Ardian equivalent of 200,000 iso's. The Achkaerin government has promised to reimburse the university as soon as possible. The sword in question is a significant find because according to Luna Isle records it belonged to a Maiden Sister by the name of Anezaki Ayanami who was recently discovered to be the second wife of the East Moreland King known as Paul the Explorer. The body of Anezaki has never been found many had expected her remains to be in the tomb of Paul the Explorer that was discovered last year but there was no such luck, it is understood that finding these remains is high on the CETO's list of priority's. ![]() ATTORNEY GENERAL CHALLENGES EAST MORELAND DECISION OVER PRINCE JAMES ![]() Attorney General Robert Turner Following a recent news broadcast from East Moreland in which it was reported that King David was seeking a review of the sentence passed down in regards to Prince James Ironside, with the implication that the death penalty that was struck down by the international bench of judges could be reinstated, Emperor Peter in conjunction with the Senate has asked the Attorney General Mr Robert Turner to look into the legality of such implications. Mr Turner has released the following statement:
The results of the East Moreland review are not yet known since it like the investigations of Mr Turner are ongoing but with what is on the line- a man's life there is no room for inaction. ![]() CHAMPIONS LEAGUE STARTS WITH GOALS GALORE ![]() Avalon F.C striker Joshua Schilling celebrates his hat-trick against Haifa United The Mundus Champions League's first set of matches saw two Achkaerin teams in action at the Leonaise Arena Leonaise F.C defeated Nueva Ardia's Chupacabras 3-1 with a brace from Danni Leonidas and the third from James H'Daen, a result that sees the Achkaerin national champions tied at the top of group D. However Avalon F.C's trip to Eretz Yacov to play Haifa United steals the headlines as they ran out 3-0 winners in a dominant display that saw Joshua Schilling score a hat trick the first being a coolly slotted finish from the edge of the penalty area, the second a thirty five yard run ending with the ball flying into the top corner with his third coming from the penalty spot. It has been seen as a great start for Achkaerin's teams in the competition and with Valtheim United and Djana-Ville Wanderer's getting their campaigns underway tomorrow there are high hopes for this trend to continue. |

![]() ![]() COMET CHASERS UNVEILED Pilot and Mission Commander David Naylor, Scientist Alice Gibbons, Engineer Jerry Simpson The Achkaerin Space Agency today unveiled the crew that will chase the Dragon Flame Comet with the hope of obtaining the first sample from a comet by means of a remote controlled probe. The crew will be led by pilot David Naylor whose job it will be to chase the comet on a precisely calculated route. Scientist Alice Gibbons has the critical role of pinpointing the precise landing site and launching the probe to collect the samples, finally there is Engineer Jerry Simpson who just has to worry about making sure the whole thing works, which on paper apparently sounds easy but as all astronauts and those associated with that line of work know it's far from that simple. The craft which has apparently been named Heavenrend is reportedly ready for launch and is being moved into launch position at the Solaria launch site. The launch is expected within the next two to three days. We wish the astronauts well and hope that following their return we will understand the cosmos that little bit better. ![]() FOX'S DOMINANT IN VICTORY: TITLE WIN POSSIBLE Supreme Sovereignty 15-35 Achkaerin The penultimate weekend of Confederation Cup action saw the Fox's run rampant over Supreme Sovereignty, though the game was close at half time, in the second half Achkaerin cut loose roaring to a twenty point margin of victory. The performance described by Achkaerin coach David Nightingale as 'the best we've played all championship.' was very typical of Achkaerin rugby in that it was based on a solid kicking game, speed and driving mauls. The result leaves Achkaerin second in the table behind East Moreland, the two teams along with Seaforth level on points but holding their positions based on points difference. The final act of the tournament is Achkaerin v East Moreland at the Fox's Den but there are four teams in with a shout of winning the title and while East Moreland are obvious favorites Achkaerin are hoping to take advantage of their outsider status, the chances are that it will either be East Moreland or Seaforth but never say never and all that. |

![]() ![]() CROWN PRINCESS SERENITY SAFE AND SOUND ![]() Following days of uncertainty as to their fate, it has been confirmed in the last few hours that Crown Princess Serenity Azurewind and Supreme Sovereignty's Crown Prince Isaac Wesley have been successfully rescued from the Sovereigntyian mountain range, where their aircraft was shot down- in a twist of fate by Prince Simon Azurewind at his younger sister's behest. The rescued pair are reported to be in good health with only minor injury concerns. The pair have been flown back to Achkaerin for a thorough medical checkup. With the news of the successful rescue Emperor Peter Azurewind has released a statement thanking all those who took part in the search and rescue operation, he has also issued a warning to the Enlightenment terrorist group which is below: "Stay away from my family and the people of my country or you will feel just how powerful the Achkaerin military can be." Analysts have commented that this is similar to statements made concerning the Borlanders, another terrorist group that Achkaerin's counter terrorism units spend time combatting- both groups incidentally now exist on the prohibited organisations list for the same reason- namely kidnapping the Crown Princess. In relation to this point there has already been a boycott of a high street bookmaker after they posted odds on which terrorist organisation would be next to kidnap Crown Princess Serenity- the Marble Palace has not commented on this except to say 'there are more serious things to worry about.' ![]() CHAMPIONS LEAGUE SIDES CONTINUE TO IMPRESS (left) Djana-Ville Wanderers celebrate their 4-0 victory (right) midfielder Lance Taki celebrating his first goal for Valtheim United as they destroy Harchester United away 5-2 This weeks Champions League matches saw all four of Achkaerin's teams emerge victorious in their matches, Avalon F.C took advantage of their home turf to beat Antwerp United 2-1 thanks to goals from Joshua Schilling and Nico Heizenberg, Leonaise F.C were away from home but were able to defeat Tel-Aviv United also by a score of 2-1 both goals coming from Danni Leonidas in the last twenty minutes of the game. However it was the other half of the competition draw that saw the most exciting football. Djana-Ville Wanderers took surprise package IFK Krokom apart in very comprehensive manner with a dominant 4-0 victory in which the very unusual formation employed by the wanderers was executed to perfection. The other game saw a seven goal thriller in Dartfordia where Valtheim United emerged 5-2 victors over Harchester United- the highlight being a hat trick from striker James Kazmeirczek, while other goals came from Rory Doherty and also young gun Lance Taki netting for the first time with a very well executed free kick. MEGAN RISES TO TOP OF FORMULA MUNDUS STANDINGS Megan Harrison stands atop the drivers standings in the Formula Mundus Championship after two races. Megan who finished fourth at the recent race in Dijel finds herself four points clear of closest rival Kimi Hakkinen. Riviere Corporation Racing also top the constructors standings by a point from NNB-NTK Racing Team. However team principal Satella Watts is not letting the team get ahead of themselves stating: "It's still early on in the season and this sport is a development game we've got a very slender points advantage in both championships at this point, Megan's driven well and the team has executed pit stops well and the car has more or less proved reliable thus far- we know that at the next race the possibility remains that we could be caught out and it's our responsibility to do all we can to ensure that that doesn't happen. |

![]() ![]() NEO GOWU GETS NEW SHERIFF ![]() Earlier this evening Emperor Peter released a statement at a press conference in which he addressed a matter that has been voiced by several members of the Achkaerin nobility: Lydia Daniels, Prince Simon's fiance is not of noble blood she grew up in a children's home in Leonaise. The full statement is below:
![]() VEROVAN REVOLUTION RAISES BROOK MATTER...AGAIN ![]() Former Verovan General Pytor Brook Following news of a revolution in Verover, which has incidentally been taken with a note of caution by the Achkaerin government, attention has once more turned to the former Verovan General Pytor Brook. The former General is currently being held in an Achkaerin high security prison awaiting trial for war crimes committed during the campaign to reunify Safraen. The specifics of the crimes being that he ordered Verovan troops to open fire on his CIS allies leading to the deaths of primarily Achkaerinese and Seaforthian troops, but also by implication the deaths of CIS troops from all member nations at the time which had it not been for the increased resistance following the actions of General Brook would surely have been significantly lower. It is not known what will happen to General Brook but the Achkaerin establishment is adamant that he will stand trial for his crimes. The Achkaerin government has also echoed the call for the former Verovan Emperor to be held accountable as well since recently discovered evidence suggests that the level of accountability went that high. ![]() IMPERIAL NAVY ANNOUNCES DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS (left) the Defiant Class Frigate (right) the proposed Quintessence Class Destroyer The Achkaerin Imperial Navy in conjunction with Riviere Corporation has today unveiled two new Naval development projects. The first is the development of the already existing Defiant Class Frigate, which sees the class modified to appear more stealth like and also sees it upgraded to include what's been termed as a 'naval Faraday cage'. Other modifications see new techniques applied to the hull plating to make it tougher whilst keeping the weight the same and also include a small speed increase. Fleet Admiral David Jackson has refuted suggestions of rushed development stating- "This is not a knee jerk reaction to recent announcements by Rokkenjima and South Hills, these plans have been in the works for weeks we were just determining which class of ship would be the most suitable to try them out on." It should be noted that most commentators are yet to be convinced by this statement. The other announced project is the Quintessence class destroyer, the Fleet Admiral was very tight lipped about this class of ship and what its capabilities are the only comment being "The Quintessence class is the ideal ship to face an ever evolving and changing world full of ever changing threats. With this ship we can not only defend our own territory but also those areas that belong to our allies should the need arise. It does include exceptional offensive and defensive capabilities for a variety of scenario's." The development of the Defiant Class is expected to be quicker than the construction of the Quintessence Class but the trials of the Quintessence Class and the role that ship plays in the future of Mundus's security will be watched with great interest. ![]() ![]() STATEMENT ON VEROVAN CRIMINALS Minister of Foreign Affairs Senator Gordon Laithwaite Following a flurry of statements late last night concerning the former Emperor of Verover Ivan I and former General Pytor Brook, Senator Gordon Laithwaite the minister of Foreign Affairs has released the following statement on behalf of the Achkaerin government addressing the relevant issues.
![]() "NERVES WHAT NERVES?" SAYS RUGBY COACH AHEAD OF TITLE DECIDER ![]() There are no nerves in the Achkaerin Rugby Union camp according to head coach David Nightingale ahead of tomorrow's Confederation Cup title decider at the Fox's Den. Achkaerin are one of four teams that could win the title but they're going to need a bit of help from other teams most significantly Ndambia since an Ndambian victory over Seaforth coupled with an Achkaerin victory over East Moreland is seen as the most realistic scenario under which Achkaerin could take the title. Essentially the Fox's know that if they have to chase a points margin against East Moreland then their chances of winning decrease due to the formidable attacking threat that East Moreland possess and showed during their thrashing of Dijel. However if all that matters is winning the game then anything is theoretically possible. To give the team a boost coach Nightingale has called for 'a cauldron of noise and a sea of red' at the Fox's Den tomorrow, it is expected that he'll get both in that both sets of fans are very supportive of their teams and both wear red, though tomorrow it shall be Achkaerin as the home team that walk out in red. On a final note the Rugby team will hope to capture the memories of the football World Cup final that saw Achkaerin emerge victorious against the odds, they will hope to bring about another memorable sporting night and we wish them all the luck we can. |

![]() ![]() ANTARES SHIPYARD ANNOUNCED Impression of the new Antares Shipyard In a shock announcement the Ministry of Defence has announced the construction of the Antares Shipyard facility. The facility which will be located on the north western coast of the Dijel island of Dauntel is the first time the Imperial Navy has established a base of its own outside of Achkaerin's borders. The Ministry of Defence has clarified the situation by stating that "We have seen in recent times that our responsive capability to various crises is limited by our geographical position on Mundus we therefore entered into discussions with Dijel and we have managed to obtain agreement on this facility, further this facility is not our sovereign territory, yes it's an Achkaerinese facility in terms of buildings but the land remains the sovereign territory of Dijel, this is essentially a similar agreement to that we have with Rokkenjima concerning Queen Cecelia Military Base." Construction on the new shipyard is due to start immediately. ![]() FOX'S MISS OUT BUT SHOWED GREAT HEART Achkaerin 25-25 East Moreland ![]() The Confederation Cup reached its climax today and the final round of games lived up to all the hype. A surprising win for Ndambia over Seaforth put Achkaerin and East Moreland into a winner takes all match at the Fox's Den. It was always going to be a tight game and the momentum swung back and forth, but it was the Fox's on the attack in the last couple of minutes, they got their equalizing points with a drop goal and then as the game ticked into overtime they won a penalty- up stepped Matthew Sadler to kick it only and for a few brief seconds it looked like the cup was coming to Achkaerin only for the ball to hit the post and bounce away to safety, East Moreland then proceeded to kick the ball into touch ending the game. Despite losing the championship coach David Nightingale gave his players plenty of praise stating: "We gave everything out there today in a game against a much better side than us but for periods we were able to control the game and crucially we had control at the end only to see it slip out from in front of us. But I honestly couldn't be any more proud of that performance than I am. It's only a shame we didn't take the title, but fair play to East Moreland they deserve it and I congratulate them." |

The confirmation that Heavenrend had begun it's orbital slingshot was given by the crew of Pegasus Station. The craft now enters the first phase of the mission which is to get into position to make the chase close to the Sun, they'll have to be quick about it as well since they need to obtain the optimal position within the next 48 hours. Director of Flight Operations Nicola Fernley has stated that "So far everything looks good, but now we enter into the part of the mission that is really beyond our control, everything between now and re-entry is all based on untested theory, but we'll give it our best shot." Updates on the mission will be given as and when they are released. ![]() SURPRISE CHOICE FOR ANTARES COMMANDER Fleet Captain Connie Shinono, the appointed commander of the Antares base Following the announcement of the Antares base to be built on the Dijel island of Dauntel, the Achkaerin Imperial Navy has announced the officer who will be in command of the new facility. The Officer is Fleet Captain Connie Shinono, presently Captain Shinono commands the INS Valiant and will continue to command her ship upon taking up her position at Antares. The full list of assigned ships to the new base has not been announced but with construction underway it has been confirmed that the size of the assigned force will be twenty ships in keeping with the size of assigned forces elsewhere. The Imperial Navy has also stated its hopes that Antares base will lead to closer coordination between the Achkaerin and Dijel navies since both are CIS nations however there was no comment in regard to the currently disputed CSZ. ![]() ![]() PRINCE SIMON WEDS ![]() ![]() Crystalline Castle today played host to its first royal wedding in close to twenty years as Prince Simon married long term girlfriend Lydia Daniels. The ceremony was a traditional Achkaerin royal wedding and at the decision of the happy couple was kept as a private affair with only friends and family attending. As tradition dictates the bride began with the rite of purification before journeying through the Crystalline valley to Crystalline Castle. The service carried out by Master Li Katsuragi was broadcast live on multiple platforms and the occasion and seems to have captured the nations imagination with many neighbourhoods hosting street parties. The honeymoon however seems to have been melded together with business as it is understood that the newly weds will accompany Crown Princess Serenity to Rokkenjima for a meeting concerning the Association of Crowns. ![]() LOST CHILD FOUND IN ACHKAERIN ![]() Maki Hamer Following revelations in the wake of the death of Nueva Ardia's Claudio Penultimo a search has been underway in Achkaerin to find the child of Claudio thought to be half Achkaerinese, the Marble Palace has today revealed that the search is over and that the child has been found. The child is Maki Hamer, fourteen years old and apparently known to most of the city population of Valtheim as a street urchin. DNA tests have confirmed her to be the daughter of the late Mr Penultimo. It was thought that she would attend the funeral of her father alongside Emperor Peter however with the situation in Nueva Ardia being what it is, with the riots and postponement of the funeral it is expected that Ms Hamer will remain in Achkaerin though what the future holds for her is still unclear. ![]() ACHKAERIN SET TO JOIN CROSS STRAITS UNION ![]() The final obstacle to Achkaerin's admittance into the Cross Straits Union has been cleared, the Seante today voting overwhelming in favor of the measure by a margin of 496 in favor and 3 against. The debate saw attempts by the Puritan Party to filibuster proceedings as the controversial party sought to persuade the opposition parties to reject the measure and deny it the two thirds majority in the Senate that had been agreed as the minimum requirement for the Bill to pass. It was however not to be for the Puritan Party as Senator Syusuke Park leader of the Endeavour Party and also leader of the opposition declared his support for the Bill, effectively pledging his parties support to that of the two governing parties and ending the matter of worry over the numbers for the vote. The Bill is expected to be signed into law tomorrow on the day that Achkaerin is formally admitted to the Cross Straits Union. |

Eleanor now holds three sailing records- first female circumnavigation of Mundus, youngest person to circumnavigate Mundus and the fastest circumnavigation of Mundus with the official time being 52 days, 16 hours, 11 minutes and 13 seconds. ![]() LEONAISE SHOW COMPETITION A CLEAN PAIR OF HEELS The fourth round of Champions League action saw the 'second time around' phase of the competition start as teams played each other for the second time, with the groups starting to take shape and qualification scenario's developing this was when the favorites for the trophy would emerge, in terms of Achkaerin's teams the best chance of winning the silverware seems to rest with Leonaise F.C who prior to today had swept all challengers before them aside in Group D. Today was no exception as they routed Nueva Ardia's Cupacabras's 5-0 away from home, striker Danni Leonidas (pictured above) scored a hat trick that was sandwiched between skipper Robert Kinnay firing in from thirty yards and substitute James H'Daen netting in the last few minutes, the result means that Leonaise F.C win group D with two games to spare. The only other team in the competition of qualify in the same way for the knockout rounds today was Northfort United from East Moreland. The other Achkaerin team in action today was Avalon F.C who won 1-0 at home against Haifa United a result which tightens up group B. Tomorrow Valtheim United can follow in Leonaise's footsteps and qualify for the next round, Djana-Ville Wanderers who presently top the tightest group in the competition will hope to win and break out from the rest to give themselves a qualification scenario, however most pundits predict that group F will go down to the very last game with any outcome possible. |

The first sees former Vice-Consul Jonathon Hunt become the Minister for Cross-Straits Affairs, which is seen primarily as a portfolio concerning Achkaerin within the Cross-Straits Union. Though there have been rumblings in some quarters notably on the opposition seats in the Senate that this appointment is to give the former Vice-Consul a sense of importance that he no longer possess's domestically. An allegation strongly refuted by Consul Michael Williams. The second appointment is the more surprising one as it sees first timer Senator Cheryl Holmes brought into the cabinet as Minister for Commonwealth Affairs. Senator Holmes is a member of the Patriot Party and joined the party without any expectation of being elected, however she holds the seat of Neo Gowu South which was the first seat to declare in the recent elections. Critics have suggested that a more experienced Senator should have been appointed to such a significant position since this is the Ministry that represents Achkaerin in the Commonwealth Treaty Organisation but Vice-Consul Rhian Kennedy, leader of the Patriot Party has stated that 'A new organisation needs newer ideas, lest the failures of the Covenant of Nations be repeated by the old guard.' ![]() VALTHEIM UNITED ALL BUT CONFIRM QUALIFICATION IN CHAMPIONS LEAGUE ![]() Tonights Champions League action saw Valtheim United chalk up another win that all but confirms their qualification for the knock out stages with a 4-2 win over the Eilat Strikers. In the other game featuring an Achkaerin team Djana-Ville Wanderers lost 2-1 at home to Emancipa United, Djana-Ville Wanderers do still retain their qualification position in Group F however that is only on goal difference and while their chances of qualification are still high, they will hope to win their game against IFK Krokom and take a giant step towards qualification for the next round. |

With her new title of Sheriff of Foxton, Princess Maki has also revealed her new personal coat of arms (pictured above). The coat of arms features aspects specific to both Nueva Ardia and Achkaerin as the Nueva Ardian phoenix is flanked by Achkaerinese fox's, thus a reflection of Princess Maki's heritage as a daughter of both nations. In an official statement, her first to the public, Princess Maki said the following "I know I'm young I know I don't know Nueva Ardia that well but I'm the kind of girl who wants to learn, I only found out days ago who I am, do I want to learn about the part of my heritage I know nothing about? Yes I do, why? The 'constituency' that Achkaerin is in for the Security Council elections is set to be challenging though with four nations battling for only one seat, with three of the four being CIS nations as East Moreland and Seaforth join Achkaerin in that constituency though neither of those two have declared their candidacy as yet. |

Valtheim United have no such worries a 2-1 home win against Harchester United means that they qualify as group winners. Once the shortlist is announced we'll bring you the details of who's in the running and we'll bring you the results from the night itself. |

![]() ![]() SECURITY COUNCIL ELECTIONS PROVIDE SURPRISING RESULT ![]() ![]() (left) Minister for Commonwealth Affairs Cheryl Holmes (Right) Steven Ayanami Achkaerins Security Council representative to the CTO The first ever elections for the Commonwealth Treaty Organisation's Security Council have thrown up a final compliment of Achkaerin, Seaforth, the UNP, Odmony, South Hills and Nueva Ardia. This result has been discussed in various countries globally and is seen as a surprising result for a few reasons. The first reason it's surprising is that the result elects two members of the CIS and with Odmony also in the midst of the application procedure it could well come to pass that the CIS finds itself holding half the seats of the Security Council. This has happened, analysts say, because of which nations were nominated but also (and mainly) because of the size of the Northern Constituency- the constituency includes Alba Karinya and the whole of Cotf Aranye which naturally includes three current CIS nations. Such a large constituency dramatically increased the chances of this outcome. In a related point the Premier of Rokkenjima has dubbed the elections a 'wasted opportunity' a point which Senator Cheryl Holmes, the Minister for Commonwealth Affairs has addressed as follows: "I have some sympathy with Premier Faust's point, I agree that the result is surprising. On the one hand we have a nation that is regarded as a world leader in Rokkenjima and on the other we have Nueva Ardia a nation just emerging with a government whose legitimacy is disputed by several nations. It is odd that Nueva Ardia would be elected over Rokkenjima but to form the main plank of an argument on previous track record in these circumstances is frankly arrogant- at the end of the day there are thirteen nations who were involved in the formation of the CTO six have been elected to the security council, therefore seven nations do not have representation if Premier Faust's argument was taken as gospel then the other six nations that have missed out this time could also claim the same. Now naturally we are aware of the situation we find ourselves in. Crucially the makeup of the security council is a vote for stability and since the CTO is a fledgling organisation this is what is most critically needed- no scandal, nothing alarming." Achkaerin's elected representative to the security council is Steven Ayanami the husband of Lady Kristina Ayanami, Marqueeza of West Water, the former Colonel is due to fly out to Rokkenjima in the coming hours to take his seat. ![]() ACHKAERIN'S TOP THREE LOOK AHEAD TO LAST SIXTEEN ADVENTURE (left) Leonaise F.C manager Mika Dawson (centre) Valtheim United manager Peter Massey (right) Avalon F.C manager Timothy Cohen The last round of group games in the Champions League saw three of Achkaerin's four representative teams qualify for the knockout rounds. Leonaise F.C won group D without dropping a point- the only team in the competition to claim the accolade, they sealed this feat with a 5-0 home win over Alunda United. Avalon F.C possibly took their eye of the game against Marantha because they'd already secured qualification- they lost the game 2-1. Valtheim United took group H with a 3-0 win over East Moreland's Royal F.C The draw for the last sixteen of the competition sees Valtheim United travel to East Moreland to face Portworth Mariners, their manager Peter Massey is reportedly 'upbeat and looking forward to the challenge.' It looks like a sort of revenge match for the World Cup Final as Leonaise F.C head off to Dartfordia for the first leg of their tie against Spitelout Athletic, Mika Dawson their manager has stated that 'we'll carry our professionalism, respect for our opponents and hopefully our excellent form into this tie.' pundits have pointed out that the level of football in Dartfordia is higher than that in Eretz Yacov, Ndambia and Nueva Ardia, the nations from where Leonaise F.C's opposition have hailed from thus far, but no one expects Leonaise's players to take this game for granted. But it wouldn't be the knockout round of a football tournament if an Achkaerinese team didn't find themselves pitted against a Quinntopian teams and this tournament is no exception- Avalon F.C travel to Emancipa United in what is potentially one of the ties of the round. Avalon's manager Timothy Cohen has stated 'We'll be ready for this, we know Emancipa are a good team and we know we'll have to be at our best but we do have the second leg at home and that gives us a slight advantage in some ways but also applies the pressure in others, I guess we'll just have to see where things go on the night.' |

![]() ![]() WAR OF WORDS CONTINUES AS HIGGINS REFUSES TO BUDGE ![]() Following a statement made last week in the Senate concerning the President of the Mundus Development Bank and a subsequent rebuttal from the Dartfordian House of Commons, Senate proceedings today saw Senator Percy Higgins on his feet again to launch the same accusation once more.
It was expected that Senator Higgins would be less stubborn than this, however it is believed that the offering of the MDB Vice Presidency to Francisco Riviere may have influenced the scope of his statement. It was also noted that for large portions of the statement Senator Matthew Patterson, Minister for Economic Affairs, was shaking his head. ![]() SPORTS PERSONALITY NOMINATIONS CLOSE- SHORTLIST EXPECTED WITHIN 24-48 HOURS Following many days of nominating by the public the nominations for Sports Personality of the Year have closed. The shortlist of twelve candidates for the main award is expected to be revealed within the next two days, it is not yet confirmed who is on the shortlist but a sudden surge of backing for Britney Hammond in the Young Sports Personality of the Year category would suggest that triple I.O Games champion Abigail Snowden is on the shortlist for the main award, though if this proves to be the case then it is likely that there will be a police investigation into the betting patterns. The Achkaerin Sports department will bring you information on each of the candidates in the days leading up to the big night. |

![]() ![]() SECURITY COUNCIL RESOLUTION IMMINENT ![]() Cheryl Holmes, Minister for Commonwealth Affairs In the last few hours, news coming out of the HQ of the Commonwealth Treaty Organisation has indicated that the Security Council is debating a concrete proposal for a resolution in regards to the whale hunt in Nya Aland. The details of any such resolution will not be known until its publication but the Minister for Commonwealth Affairs Cheryl Holmes has stated- "The fact that the Security Council is debating a concrete proposal indicates that the proposal is likely fair and addresses the concerns of each member of the Security Council. If this does come to fruition then the Security Council and the CTO itself will have justified its existence in the first days of its lifetime and under very tricky circumstances." ![]() RIVIERE CORPORATION HITS BACK AT SOUTH HILLS ![]() Following remarks made by Senator Bernard Jones of South Hills that would tarnish Riviere Corporation as a 'Government funded monopoly' the Corporation has hit back against the statement with a statement of its own, in an unusual step it was not the PR department that delivered the statement but rather CEO Catriona Rowan herself, the full transcript of the statement is below.
![]() CROWN PRINCESS SERENITY TO GRADUATE FROM MILITARY ACADEMY Crown Princess Serenity (pictured above on a recent outing in Valtheim) is set for her final exam of her military training, the final exam is a simulated tank versus tank engagement, this is standard because the Crown Princess is intending to serve in the armoured corps, she is reportedly excited to be completing her military training and is looking forward to a career in the military. In a related story the Crown Princess, who turned seventeen yesterday, is presently attending the Dunwich Summit of Crowns in Rokkenjima, her attendance is however not the story- her birthday is, this is because it means that she has been in a relationship with Crown Prince Isaac of Supreme Sovereignty for approximately a year, a fact that is making many people wonder what might be coming soon. ![]() CHAMPIONS LEAGUE MIXED BAG FOR ACHKAERIN'S TEAMS The first leg of the last sixteen of the Champions League threw up a mixed bag for Achkaerin's teams. Leonaise F.C traveled to Dartfordia and ran out 3-0 winners against Spitelout Athletic with goals from captain Robert Kinnay (pictured above), Danni Leonidas and James H'Daen, the first goal came on the stroke of half time with the second soon after the break, the third came in the last fifteen minutes, it was a victory well deserved as Leonaise bossed the game from beginning to end. Of the other Achkaerinese teams in action Valtheim United drew 1-1 away at Portworth Mariners thanks to a goal from James Kazmeirczek while Avalon F.C lost 2-1 away at Emancipa United however Avalon's manager Timothy Cohen remains upbeat stating 'we're only trailing by one and we've got an away goal so we try to win without conceding when we bring them back to Coral Park and if that isn't forthcoming then we try to win by two clear goals. But this tie is far from over.' Edited by Achkaerin, 27th May 2015 - 12:54 PM.

![]() ![]() KING WHO? Emperor Peter Azurewind today visited Silver Fox Fort to see off the Achkaerin team for the Ostlake Military Games in East Moreland he was asked a few questions by the media these included home and foreign affairs, East Moreland leaving the CIS and ultimately questions about the self proclaimed King Richard V of Seaforth to which he gave the following response:
![]() ELSIF TRIAL BEGINS ![]() The trial of Nicolas Elsif began today, for security reasons the trial is being held at the highest court in Achkaerin. Nicolas Elsif spoke only to confirm his identity and answer the charges of terrorism, murder, theft and conspiracy to commit treason to which he pleaded 'not guilty' to all. Following the initial stage the Prosecution representative laid out the facts and the presiding judge Supreme Inquisitor Lord Jacob Summers scrutinized the argument. Formal evidence from witness's is expected to begin tomorrow with the first witness being Persephone Lynx the head of Computers and Electronics at Riviere Corporation. The trial itself is expected to last for potentially up to three weeks. ![]() CHAMPIONS LEAGUE ROUND UP The Mundus Champions League was another mixed bag for Achkaerin's teams, Leonaise F.C brushed aside Spitelout Athletic 2-0 at home to advance to the quarter finals while Valtheim United held firm against Portworth Mariners to secure a 0-0 draw and advance on the away goal rule. However there was to be heartbreak for Avalon F.C trailing 2-1 from the first leg the Achkaerin team knew that they had to take to the attack, this they did scoring a goal in each half to lead 2-0 on the night only to concede an injury time goal that took the tie to extra time. Thirty minutes later the teams couldn't be separated and so the game came down to the roulette of a penalty shootout which the Quinntopians won 3-2. The quarter final draw pits Valtheim United against East Moreland's Northfort United in what is expected to be a tight game, but the tie of the round is tipped to be Quinntropolis F.C of Quinntopia against Leonaise F.C. |

She was asked questions regarding how the Elsif family were able to obtain the equipment that they used during their terror campaign earlier this year. When cross examined by the defence Ms Lynx had to concede that she couldn't be certain about how the equipment was obtained but she reiterated that her expertise in computers was such that it was very obvious that a hack of the Riviere Corporation databases was underway. The trial continues down the list of Riviere Corporation witness's with both CEO Catriona Rowan and Hermione Washington, director of Riviere Corporation operations in East Moreland Technology City expected to testify in the coming days. ![]() OSTLAKE MILITARY GAMES: RIVER CROSSING SUCCESS Team Achkaerin at the Ostlake Military Games have walked away with their first gold medal, in the river crossing event. ![]() ![]() IS LOVE IN THE AIR FOR OUR EMPEROR? ![]() Samuel Davison, a student from Crystal Valley College was supposed to be out photographing for a natural sciences assignment today when he stumbled onto a more interesting photography assignment coming upon Emperor Peter Azurewind and actress Renee Sandiego, the dumbfounded student took several photographs of the pair and then left the area. The photographs (one of which is pictured above) seem to imply that there is some sort of relationship developing between the pair. This has led naturally to speculation that the relationship may be of the romantic nature, this is of interest to the population and is a relationship that will be watched with great interest. ![]() ELSIF TRIAL: DAY THREE ![]() Day three of the Elsif Trial saw the prosecution continue its case with the testimony of Hermione Washington, Ms Washington who heads up Riviere Corporation's campus at East Moreland's Technology City was kidnapped by the Elsif family and had her knowledge used to compromise Achkaerin's security including incidents in Avalon, Solaria and Valtheim the latter being the Marble Palace Siege. Ms Washington testified for four hours recounting her experience for the prosecution, the defence did not cross examine her. ![]() NEW TOYS FOR ACHKAERIN'S ARMED FORCES ![]() ![]() (left) the new Robin type aircraft (right) the new SG-2 rifle Riviere Corporation has unveiled its latest developments for the Achkaerin armed forces, first up is a new version of the Robin interceptor type aircraft this version sees a radical redesign with an emphasis placed on making it faster and tougher, the second development is the SG-2 rifle, which essentially a rifle version of the SG-1 stun gun pistol. The Achkaerin Air Force is expected to gradually transition from the old Robin to the new Robin once the final testing phase of the aircraft is complete. Riviere Corporation has refused to comment on whether they plan to challenge the air speed record however they did comment on the projects as follows: "The Robin interceptor is intended to be a versatile aircraft ready for a wide variety of missions, kind of like a jack of all trades as it were, we are pleased with the initial test results that show a marked improvement in the models speed and agility when compared to the present model. That said we won't be taking the final tests for granted we will be looking forward to hopefully good results there. The SG-2 is a development born out of a request not just from the military but also the police, the results of the SG-1 speak for themselves we have seen a decrease in violent crime of 20% since the inception of the SG-1 we have seen a decrease in the number of firearm incidents involving police opening fire in the same time, the SG-2 being a rifle version offers greater range with a slight increase in charge. The range increase would decrease the amount of risk police officers place themselves in and additionally the tactical versatility of our armed forces." ![]() GOLD AT OSTLAKE Achkaerin success at Ostlake this year has been hit and miss with only one gold medal before today, however today Lt Hannah Nikaido of the Achkaerin Air Force took home the heptathlon gold, Lt Nikaido who is the wingman of Prince Simon dominated the event on day one of the competition posting the fastest times in the hurdles and the 200 metres as well as winning the high jump discipline, her shot put was average however that was enough to give her the overnight lead, she picked up from that today and brought home the gold. Speaking afterwards she gave the following reaction: "It feels great to win against such a field as this I set myself up brilliantly with my performance yesterday, I spend a lot of time when I'm on base sprinting with Simon so I was confident of my hurdles and my 200, there's a sprint based element to the high jump so I'm not so surprised there, my shot has never been that good but I managed a decent throw and got in to today in front and I knew if I could get to the 800 leading then the only thing that would stop me was an injury. Now I know there's been a lot of questions over Achkaerin's performance this year but put into context it's difficult enough competing against people from six other nations it's ridiculously hard when one of those nations has nine teams entered, and as great a spectacle as this is it does load the competition somewhat. Though next year we'll have to bring the pizza ovens over I think." CHAMPIONS LEAGUE ROUND UP ![]() The first leg of the Champions League Quarter Finals saw draws for the two Achkaerin sides in action Valtheim United drew 1-1 away at Northfort United with James Kazmeirczek scoring what could be a crucial away goal. Meanwhile the much anticipated Quinntropolis Leonaise game didn't quite live up to the hype as the sides canceled each other out in a 0-0 draw- Leonaise manager Mika Dawson gave the following reaction: "Playing Quinntopian teams is always tough and because the tie is two legs everything is magnified that much more. It's only natural that you try to avoid losing the first tie by being a little more defensive, which as the away team suited us fine because that's what an away team is expected to do sit back and absorb pressure. We would have preferred to win the game or get a score draw purely to get the aggregate advantage but a nil nil isn't that bad we're taking them back to Leonaise for a ninety minute game that we'll have to treat like a cup final. ![]() ![]() EMPEROR PETER GIVES INTERVIEW ![]() Following recent upheavals in international relations Emperor Peter has spoken out on certain issues:
![]() LEONAISE ROUT QUINNTROPOLIS TO REACH SEMI'S The second legs of the Mundus Champions League quarter finals threw up some entertaining encounters whether it was tension, artistry or fairytale there was something for everyone, Valtheim United went out on away goals against Northfort United, IFK Krokom continued to surpass all expectations by advancing past the Conquistadores and Emancipa United survived a scare to win their derby against Northania. The tie of the round had been touted as Leonaise v Quinntropolis and following the bore draw of the first leg many had questioned the hype of this as a 'clash of the titans'. And what say we of all us doubters now? 'Fools' and 'oh ye of little faith' seem to be appropriate phrases. The second leg more than made up for the disappointment of the first as Leonaise routed Quinntropolis by a score of 5-1, the goals coming thanks to a Danni Leonidas brace, a Robert Kinnay free kick, Peter Adams header and a James H'Daen screamer of a volley, much was made of the absence of key Quinntropolis players but that wouldn't be giving Leonaise the credit they deserve for their display, their now synonymous 3-5-2, textbook intricate pass and move football, interchanging second line all was on show and all executed to perfection. One thing's for certain Quinntopians must hate playing at the Leonaise Arena, the same stadium where their national team were eliminated at the last world cup. Following the match Leonaise manager Mika Dawson gave the following reaction: "This is beyond our wildest expectations. We came in with a game plan, we knew that a 0-0 away from home for us last time out meant that Quinntropolis would have to come here and play a more attacking style, so we knew if our 'wishbone' of Peter Adams at the heart of defence and our defensive midfielders Robert Kinnay and James H'Daen held together that we could win, but never did we think it would be 5-1. All I can say is that my players put in one heck of a shift tonight and they absolutely deserved their result, we bossed the midfield, we bossed possession and all the moments of magic were by our players in red shirts. However tomorrow it's back down to work for the semi final, IFK Krokom have come further than anyone thought they would they've taken some pretty big scalps we just have to hope they don't take ours but as we've seen here anything can happen in football." |

![]() ![]() ACHKAERIN FIGHTS CONDEMNATION IN GENERAL ASSEMBLY In a surprising move the Government of Nueva Ardia has tabled a motion in the General Assembly of the CTO calling for the condemnation of Achkaerin in relation to a series of events that have apparently recently happened in the Principality. When asked for comment on the accusations Minister for Commonwealth Affairs, Cheryl Holmes stated: "These accusations are absurd, ill thought out and can't be proven, the evidence is on our side, relevant international treaties are on our side, track record is on our side. These accusations are nothing more than a desperate gamble from a government struggling to control a situation that is of their own making. They didn't think what would happen afterwards they've created a power vacuum and now they have no means of filling it so they decide to stall while they figure it out. There's absolutely no need for panic Nueva Ardia can't prove to the requisite standard any truth to these accusations." ![]() MALE SUPPORT CLINIC OPENS IN VALKYRIA ![]() Today was a landmark day for many sexually abused men in Achkaerin, as the first dedicated support clinic was finally opened. Previously male victims had been referred to the same centres as their female counterparts, however following the case of R v Morgan in early 2014 where the definition of rape was expanded by Senior Inquisitor Lord Rosie Brooks to include the possibility that a woman could to all intents and purposes commit the act on a man (it was just the definition of the offence that prohibited such charges be brought) there have been numerous people coming forward as victims in such circumstances, thus leading to the opening of the clinic today. Ms Brooks who presently serves on the ICJ gave the following statement earlier today. "I understand I'm being given a lot of credit for the chain of events that has led to this. It's not warranted, yes I'm the judge who challenged the law, I could have just as easily been overturned on appeal and lost my job but the appeal of Ms Morgan in that case was dismissed and weeks later the Senate passed the law expanding the definition. I'm not the hero of this, the victims who've since come forward, I'm also honored to have been asked to chair the charity that this clinic will be part of (Men R Victims 2) and I am hopeful that in the future many more such facilities will open across Achkaerin and possibly world wide. It's time the world acknowledged that whatever men can do to women, women can just as easily do to men, the age of the stereotypical strong man and weak woman have long since passed us by." |

![]() ![]() CHARITY PERFORMANCE SMASHES RECORDS ![]() Prince Simon and Crown Princess Serenity star as Marius and Eponine during 'Eponine's Errand' After weeks of rehearsal Achkaerin's annual charity events kicked off with the traditional opening- that of the Royal Family's challenge. This year the Azurewind's were challenged to put on a professional level production of the hit musical Les Miserables, given the enormity of the task the cast was drawn from across Mundus with Crown Prince Isaac Wesley of Supreme Sovereignty starring as Enjolras, Emperor Alexander Anselmo played the part of Javert. However the night would belong to the Achkaerin Emperor as Peter Azurewind put in a strong performance as Jean Valjean. The final tally for the night alone so far stands at fifty thousand Iso's the equivalent of £50,000 however with CD and DVD sales of the performance also planned to factor into the equation as well as online downloads the amount is widely expected to skyrocket. After the performance some members of the cast gave their reactions:
The Charity Week events continue over the weekend with local fundraising events and the Valtheim Marathon on Sunday. ![]() GLASTOMUNDUS ROUND UP Glastomundus 2015 saw several Achkaerin acts travel to East Moreland to entertain crowd's at Mundus's most prestigious music festival, taking place over three days saw hundreds of thousands of fans watching their musical favorites including the Emperor of Rokkenjima fresh from his exploits in Les Miserables. Friday ![]() From an Achkaerin point of view Friday was a little disappointing, not for the music but the scheduling with not one Achkaerin act scheduled for the Pyramid stage for the duration the focus was on the Other Stage and the Big Top, on Friday the focus was the Other Stage as two of Achkaerin's biggest musical names took to the stage to make their festival debuts, first Sanna Nielsen played to a reasonable sized crowd in the mid afternoon slot while AKB48 got a mid evening slot. AKB48 attracted more attention following their performance at Mundus Pride. Saturday The Big Top was where Achkaerinese acts were to be found on Saturday, Lea Salonga occupied the first afternoon slot following the Emperor of Rokkenjima's interesting performance. Following Ms Salonga's performance Alchemy Naismith (pictured above) played the final support slot of the day in the Big Top, before Frank Turner headlined. Sunday The first half of proceedings on the Big Top on Sunday could have arguably been renamed the Achkaerin stage as between 11:15am and 5pm an unbroken chain of Achkaerin acts performed led by Michael Ball (pictured above) then Alexander Armstrong, Alfie Boe with Connie Fisher drawing Achkaerin's performances to an end. This chain of performances was seen as a great opportunity to show case the more classical side of Achkaerin music with all the performers thanking the wonderful orchestra Dave Arch brought to support them. By all accounts the performers thoroughly enjoyed performing at the festival and are eagerly hoping for the opportunity to do so again in the future. ![]() ELSIF TRIAL: PROSECUTION CLOSES CASE ![]() The Prosecution in the trial of Nicolas Elsif today closed its case with the final witness being Prince Simon Azurewind, the Prince was questioned on his time in captivity and events surrounding the recent terror campaign carried out by the Elsif family. The Prince was testifying via video conference due to his present deployment with the CTOMM. It is expected that the defence will tomorrow outline its arguments. ![]() EVERYTHING GIVEN BUT NO LUCK, A VALIANT PERFORMANCE Leonaise F.C manager Mika Dawson Following their surprise exit in the semi-finals of the Mundus Champions League Leonaise F.C's manager Mika Dawson has praised both her players and those of the opposition saying that "Both teams gave everything over two legs and while everyone would have preferred skill rather than luck to settle the matter sometimes you have to swallow it and leave it up to the roulette of the penalty shootout and there's not much you can do if the keeper guesses right. We've had an excellent run and we're in a good place to build for next season so it's not that much of a loss." LAWSON WINS SPORTS PERSONALITY There was to be no surprise result at Achkaerin's sporting night of recognition otherwise known as Sports Personality of the Year. The main award went to the odds on favorite as triple I.O Games medalist and Achkaerin's leading cyclist Sammy Lawson took the top award pipping gymnast Abigail Snowden and tennis star David H'Daen into second and third place respectively. Young Sports Personality of the Year went to Britney Hammond. Other major awards on the night included team of the year going, rather unsurprisingly, to Achkaerin's football World Cup winners, coach of the year was also unsurprisingly awarded as it went to Dame Julia McCabe the coach that brought the World Cup to Achkaerin. The life time achievement award was given to Valtheim United manager Peter Massey. The final major award of the night was Overseas Sports Personality of the Year which went to Sophie Harrison-Ironside. |

The pregnancy has been welcomed in the Senate with party leaders taking it in turns to offer their congratulations. The Emperor is reported to be 'excited' by the news since this would be his first grandchild. Prince Simon, presently on assignment with the CTOMM, is reported to be 'overwhelmed' by the news. No further details have been released at this time. ![]() ELSIF TRIAL REACHES VERDICT Supreme Inquisitor Lord Jacob Summers delivering his judgement Following the shock of the defence yesterday, today's events at the trial of Nicolas Elsif were of a more predictable nature as following overnight deliberation Supreme Inquisitor Lord Jacob Summers took his seat in the court room and proceeded to give a judgement that many among the public had vocally demanded, the verdict he gave was guilty, the sentence is life imprisonment. It is expected that Nicolas Elsif will be among the first inmates of Coral Rift prison. The outcome has been welcomed by the Royal Family with Emperor Peter reported to be 'satisfied that justice has been done'. ![]() HAMMOND WINS VALTHEIM MARATHON Charity Week was brought to a finale today with the Valtheim marathon, the race which normally raises the most money during the event once again surpassed previous records as the estimated total of fundraising this year for the race alone is estimated at well over 15 million Iso's, the total number of runners was well over 40,000. Noted fun run results include Crown Princess Serenity completing the course in 3:34:43, Emperor Peter completing it in 4:00:15 and Sakura Sheppard in 3:56:25. As for the more serious aspect the men's elite race was won by Marcus Albright, while in the women's elite race Britney Hammond took the title with a strong, surging and all round dominant performance winning in 2:43:09. ![]() ![]() FOX'S HEAD TO QUINNTOPIA FOR WORLD CUP With the opening round of games in the first Rugby World Cup only a matter of days away the Achkaerin team is reportedly in good condition as they make the trip to Quinntopia for the tournament. The Fox's have been drawn in group B alongside Nueva Ardia, Dartfordia, CE Carolina, Strathakoka and pre-tournament favorites East Moreland. With the top four from the group set to advance to the quarter finals there is a confident air among fans however the team coach David Nightingale has sounded a cautious note stating "We've been drawn in a group with one opponent we know well and four we don't know that well, it's been seen in numerous sports tournaments that the element of surprise can count for an awful lot, so we won't be underestimating any of our opponents." Achkaerin's first game is against Strathakoka and while the Fox's will be favorites for the clash they will hope not to start by treading on a banana skin. |

The surprise was well received by the public and the Royal Family as Emperor Peter and Crown Princess Serenity watched the flypast from the Marble Palace's frontal balcony. Prince Simon presently a Captain within the Achkaerin Air Force was not in attendance due to deployment with the CTOMM, however sources suggest that the Prince is jealous that he didn't get to see the show first hand. The flight was conducted by the members of the Riviere Corporation Testing Team, Captain Cassidy North, Lt Lily Webber and Lt Jason Harper when asked for comment Captain North gave the following reaction: "It's quite an honor to fly one of these things, we've all tested the present incarnations of the various aircraft and speaking frankly we've got it easy, we've got computers, tracking software and voice operated systems, not to mention a top of the line HUD on our craft, but when I was sat in the cockpit of that Mk 1 Harpy in the buildup to today I developed a great deal of respect and admiration for the pilots who flew them, let's face it by modern standards those Mk 1's are potentially death traps, today just keeping them in a straight line is difficult but we've got people alive today who flew these in combat less than a hundred years ago and I'm left speechless when I think about how they did it. In a word they're heroes." ![]() ACHKAERIN WELCOMES OSEP ANNOUNCEMENT Senator Siobhan Williams, Minister for Agriculture and the Environment In today's session of the Senate, the Minister for Agriculture and the Environment Senator Siobhan Williams, wife of Consul Michael Williams, gave a statement in response to a recent Proposal by Premier Abe concerning the Organisation of Sustainable Energy Producers otherwise known as the OSEP the full transcript of the response is below:
The statement has received positive support from across the Senate chamber, with only minor opposition to it though that opposition mainly stems from people who oppose the government's strategy on continuing with the drive for renewable and clean energy sources. ![]() ACHKAERIN SEVENTH AS FIRST MUNDOVISION GOES TO EAST MORELAND ![]() The first Mundovision title went to East Moreland as their act Katrina and the Waves took the top spot with 'Love Shine a Light' beating Dartfordia's Loreen and Aeternum's Lena into second and third place respectively. Achkaerin's entry 'Undo' performed by Sanna Nielsen finished seventh overall on twenty five points though only four points behind fourth placed Nya Aland so it was a close fought contest. In response to the night Sanna has said the following: "Tonight wasn't really about the result though I will say the Katrina and the Waves put on a great performance and deserved their reward. However tonight was more about establishing this contest, making it work and bringing people from across Mundus together in a medium that everyone understands- music. And if we're honest I think we've achieved that I look around this crowd and I see some of the finest singers on the planet, next year it'll be a different crop but the legacy and the ethos for the future are now in place. As for me seventh place in this company isn't that bad, I've just played Glastomundus so to get to do this as well is a bonus and roll on next year." ![]() FOX'S WARM UP WITH THE LOCALS Achkaerin's Rugby Union team has today had its final training session before their opening World Cup game against Strathakoka, in which they were joined by some special guests- some children from a local school were permitted to join the training session, but the Fox's despite their 'community service' bit were under no illusions of where their little friend's support really was "We know that come tomorrow these kids will be backing Quinntopia and we know that if we play Quinntopia later on that they'll support their home team. Our job is to try and inspire the next generation of players for our sport and if opening up a training session on foreign soil works then it works." stated coach David Nightingale. ![]() ![]() FOX'S WIN WORLD CUP OPENER Strathakoka 15 - 24 Achkaerin Achkaerin have won their first group game at the Rugby World Cup, defeating Strathakoka by a score of 24-15, the game saw many of Achkaerin's trade marks the drive, the work rate and most notably the kicking game. The Fox's scored three tries, the first a straight run through by George Bolt, the second following a driving maul was put down by forward Charles Nikaido with the final of the three tries came following some intricate pass work with Keith Hughes going over to score, all three tries were converted by Oscar Reynolds. The final three points came thanks to a drop goal by Matthew Sadler towards the end of time to stem a Strathakoka fightback and give Achkaerin a comfortable position. Achkaerin sit second in Group B trailing East Moreland but considering East Moreland's rugby pedigree this is not an unfavorable position. Next up they will face Nueva Ardia and will look to continue their good start to the competition. |

Ms Leighton is a student at the Achkaerin University of Arts and Culture in Avalon, she is reportedly 'excited and nervous' at her inclusion at the summit she also has given a message to those attending: "There are some summits that are too important for petty squabbles to get in the way, the Mundus Youth Assembly is one such summit. Oscar Reynolds and Tovan Holtz bossed the game as the pair put on a great display of kicking as they kept the scoreboard ticking over with penalties and drop goals. Nueva Ardia did score points but by the time they did the game was effectively over. Next up for the Fox's is a game against CE Carolina in Quinntropolis. It is a game in which they will look to consolidate their position at the top of Group B. Various pundits are already looking to the latter stages of the competition believing qualification to be inevitable but this is still going to be 'one game at a time' according to coach David Nightingale. |

In response to this the Achkaerinese contingent of the CTOMM is reportedly straining at the leash to go and get them out. However whether such an operation is even being considered has not been elaborated on. When approached for comment a spokesperson for the Achkaerin CTOMM forces said- "If the opportunity to rescue these captives presents itself then it's one we will make every effort to take, but we have to do this right, we can't afford to have the events of a single flash point have the a knock on effect of dictating our actions. It has also been revealed that the 1500 troops that carried out the assault was a contingent of the Stone Dragons, a rehabilitation corp. The team dubbed the Vixens to counterpart the male team dubbed the Fox's. The full team is below:
Following the squad unveiling, several players spoke to the media, team captain Ruth Kinnay, the younger sister of the men's captain Robert Kinnay, paid tribute to the men's team saying- "We've been fortunate to have the opportunity to train alongside our male counterparts the last few days, which considering they're coming up on the end of their pre-season period is something quite special. We know we can play well and this is a chance for us to increase the popularity of women's football here at home." The surprise inclusion in the squad is striker Amy Bell, the young striker who burst onto the scene at the games in East Moreland takes her place in the squad at the expense of the more experienced players many would have expected to go there. In fact she takes her place alongside fellow futsal gold medalist Tori Silva, it's yet to be seen what bringing in players with this background will achieve but there is understandable optimism among fans, months ago they saw Achkaerin's fox's lift the world cup on home soil now they see a strong women's squad head out to Dartfordia with a reasonable chance of doing the same. When asked for comment Commodore Britney Davis the ranking Achkaerinese officer at the base stated: "This is important for us, we're able to maintain our naval presence in the region so we are able to more swiftly help our allies should it become necessary rather than have to take longer due to the longer distance, this is the price we pay for geographic isolation and it's a price we're constantly working hard to balance out." ![]() ACHKAERIN'S YOUTH SPORT EXPO FULL OF TALENT ![]() Achkaerin's annual youth sport expo saw a record number of events take place as the sportsmen and women of tomorrow showcased their skills, the event also saw appearances by some of Achkaerin's sporting greats as they sought to inspire that next generation, highlights included Mundus Games cycling gold medalist Sammy Lawson giving a class on cycling, with gymnast Abigail Snowden doing the same. The event also saw the men's and women's football teams appear, with the domestic season just around the corner the men's players taking the time to attend has been seen as something truly fantastic, it's also been seen as a key part of the women's teams preparations for the upcoming world cup in Dartfordia as the expo provided the last domestic opportunity for the team to meet their fans before they travel to the tournament. ![]() ![]() C.O.R.A.L UNVEILED ![]() Representation of what the facility will eventually look like At a press conference the government today revealed why an area off the south eastern coast of Achkaerin's main island has been off limits to ships in recent weeks. The reason is C.O.R.A.L or to use the full title- Centre of Oceanic Research And Learning. C.O.R.A.L is at first glance an underwater city or at least that is its potential, but it is not meant to rival the developments of Seaforth in this field. It's primary purpose is to facilitate the research of the marine environment on a scale never before seen and to then pass that knowledge on through an education initiative so that the younger members of the crew as it were are aware and actively participating in the function of C.O.R.A.L- Senator Sibohan Williams, the minister for the environment summed it up as follows: "With C.O.R.A.L we hope to continue our work on achieving greater natural cooperation, we're already as a nation operating on 100% renewable energy sources in everyday life and we're working on taking that into the military sector which along with flight is the last great obstacle in the government's plan to be fossil fuel free by 2018. C.O.R.A.L is something far more long term it is a legacy that will sit at the southern edge of the Sea Lion Coral Reef, the largest such reef on Mundus and will allow generations to come to observe and learn about life beneath the waves of our planet." C.O.R.A.L is expected to be operational within the next few weeks once the final phase of construction is completed. The Minister for Home Affairs Senator Lizbeth Stewart who recently traveled the region with Fleet Captain Colby of the Imperial Navy led the debate, a debate which saw much discussion on what role Achkaerin should play, the Puritan Party as expected sought to oppose any action but given their minute number of Senators and the cross-party support for action elsewhere there was never any real doubt of a vote on the matter of inaction being forced with the opposition Endeavour and Liberal Party's placing their trust in the Unity Party led coalition to do the right thing, the full speech of Ms Stewart is below.
![]() VIXEN'S OFF TO WINNING START Achkaerin 2-0 Morgenthale ![]() Amy Bell celebrates scoring the Vixen's second goal. On the first day of games in the Women's World Cup, Achkaerin's women ran out 2-0 winners against Morgenthale. In a thoroughly professional and disciplined performance the vixens kept good possession, moved the ball around quickly and took their chances well. The deadlock was broken just before the half time whistle by an edge of the area volley from midfielder Katy Bentley. After the break the Vixen's defence held firm and they got their reward a swift counterattack saw substitute Amy Bell race through the Morgenthale defence, round the keeper and slot the ball home to score her first international goal. The other result in the group was UNP 3-3 Nya Aland meaning that Achkaerin top the group with a two point gap to their nearest challengers and with the two Nordic teams to come as opponents the opportunity to take control of the group is one the Vixen's won't want to pass up. ![]() ![]() EMPEROR PETER TALKS TO MEDIA ABOUT LIFE, ROKKENJIMA AND EVERYTHING ELSE ![]() Emperor Peter Azurewind in one of his regular media appointments has given an interview on a wide range of issues the highlights are below:
![]() ASA ANNOUNCES ISHTAR MISSION ![]() The Achkaerin Space Agency has today unveiled plans to put the first human on Ishtar[1], the mission is to be a three stage program and is rumored to include prospective collaboration with outside agencies, though it has not yet been revealed who those outside agencies might be it is expected that given the challenges of the mission that EMAC from East Moreland will feature as one of them. Speaking at the press conference Director of Operations Gary Hale stated "This is the most ambitious program ever undertaken by the ASA, the greatest challenge will be the pressure of Ishtar's atmosphere but we're confident in the ingenuity of the Riviere Corporation to handle such matters we also hope that their relationships with other companies around Mundus will allow for the success of this mission." More is expected on this as the program develops. ![]() STUNNING SILVA INSPIRES VIXENS VICTORY Achkaerin 5-1 Nya Aland ![]() Tori Silva in action The second round of group games in the Women's World Cup saw Achkaerin's vixens tear Nya Aland apart by a score of 5-1, with goals from captain Ruth Kinnay and central defender Liza Campbell book ending a hat trick from striker Tori Silva this result definitely sends out a statement to the other teams in the competition. After falling behind inside the first five minutes the Vixen's responded in style they were only behind for ten minutes when Campbell netted the equalizing goal with a well timed header from a corner. After that it was the Tori Silva show, the young striker ran clear and slotted home from inside the box for her first after thirty five minutes, after half time she continued to terrorize the Nya Aland defence winning and converting a penalty on the hour mark, however the pick of the goals was to be her hat trick goal, springing the offside trap she raced into the open and scored a superbly elegant goal by chipping the ball cleanly over the onrushing keeper from the edge of the penalty area. The scoring was completed with a Ruth Kinnay free kick in the eighty third minute. After the game we talked to the captain, the coach and the star of the show: Coach Damien West: "With the exception of the first five minutes that was the best performance I've ever seen the girls give, falling behind so early often leads to heads dropping but they responded with great character, Tori was sensational up front and a danger throughout the game but I also have to give credit to the players that created the chances for her, with Vicky Akido and later on Amy Bell pulling defenders away and with the passing accuracy our midfielders demonstrated we looked like scoring virtually every time we went forwards especially in the second half." Ruth Kinnay: "It was great show of character from the girls, they rallied well and hung in there, once we got the first one something seemed to click and all of a sudden it seemed like all our passes were connecting, all our tackles were counting and that our runners were finding space. A truly inspirational performance led by a great night from young Tori. We always knew that our pace and youth could be a great weapon with the potential to light this tournament up but we didn't expect it quite this soon." Tori Silva: "That was an awesome game everything just seemed to go right for me, I'd like to thank my strike partners Vicky and Amy for doing the underrated work of drawing the defenders out of position and creating the space for me, hopefully I'll be able to repay them in future games but it's great to get my first international goals and a hat trick in my first competitive game for my country is just the icing on the cake." This result gives the Vixen's a commanding position in the group and while the thoughts of fans may now be turning to the points equation for qualification the team insists that it's still one game at a time. ![]() VIXEN'S QUALIFY FOR QUARTERS Achkaerin 3-0 Morgenthale ![]() Striker Amy Bell (no. 22) celebrates her second goal of the game Achkaerin's women's football team have booked themselves a Quarter final spot with a 3-0 victory over Morgenthale, striker Amy Bell netted in the fifteenth and seventy fifth minutes sandwiching the teams other goal from midfielder Katy Bentley in the fifty first minute. As they had the first time the teams had met the Vixen's controlled the midfield, passed the ball with ease and ran their opponents ragged with their slick passing and interchanging positions, as gloriously illustrated by their first goal some neat short passing in the midfield sucked in their opponents and then came the long ball putting Amy Bell through to beat the keeper with accuracy from the edge of the area. The Vixen's second goal was in a similar vein, fast pass work leading to the miss match which allowed Katy Bentley in behind to slot home from a tight angle, beating the keeper at the near post. The scoring was completed by a beautiful solo effort from Amy Bell as she raced past three defenders and stuck the ball into the roof of the net. The result means Achkaerin have qualified for the Quarter finals but they'll hope to go on and win the group from here. If they can do that then they'll in all probability avoid the tournaments form team Zachachevania. The mood in the camp maybe a case of 'we don't care who we play' but the likelihood is that there are teams that the Vixen's would like to avoid. Edited by Achkaerin, 28th September 2015 - 02:42 PM.

![]() VIXEN'S WIN GROUP C DOES THE OLD ENEMY AWAIT? Achkaerin 4-0 Nya Aland ![]() Jennifer Hart (no. 19) and Hermione Coleman (no. 16) The Vixen's won their latest game at the Women's World Cup meaning that they win Group C with a game to spare. Having put five past Nya Aland earlier on in the group phase the Vixen's were understandably confident going into the game, it didn't take long for Tori Silva to remind the Alanders why she'd enjoyed playing against them so much last time around as she slipped through the defence to fire Achkaerin in front inside ten minutes. Hermione Coleman doubled the lead on the stroke of half time with a well executed volley from the edge of the area. In the second half it was the turn of substitute striker Jennifer Hart to strut her stuff as she scored two goals- the first by pouncing on rebound following a save from a Vicky Akido shot, her second was something a little more special as she started and then finished a flowing counterattacking move. With Achkaerin having won Group C attention has now shifted to the battle for the runner's up spot in Group B which is set to be fought out between Nueva Ardia and the old enemy in Quinntopia. The prospect of football's two 'superpowers' clashing once again has not been lost on the fans, with many hoping for such a match up. Edited by Achkaerin, 25th September 2015 - 07:05 PM.

![]() ![]() ATHENA I LAUNCHES FOR ISHTAR ![]() ![]() ![]() (left) Pilot Imogen Quan and Engineer Vince Eppes (centre) Athena I photographed from Pegasus Station (Right) ASA DFO Nicola Fernley There was great excitement in Achkaerin today as the first stage of the Athena Program headed for Ishtar, following the launch from the Meridian Island launch site Mission Control reported a good launch. The Athena craft operates on much the same principle as Riviere's recently revealed Phoenix aircraft that is to say the use of Solar power to recharge the batteries and keep everything working, the propulsion is provided courtesy of some top of the range Seaforthian bio-fuel. Athena I's mission is to deliver swarm bots developed by SmartWar of East Moreland so that the surface of Ishtar can be mapped for stages two and three of the program. Athena I will also place a relay satellite in orbit of Ishtar so that the complete transmissions of the swarm bots can be securely relayed back to Mundus. Following the launch the ASA's Director of Flight Operations Nicola Fernley gave the following statement: "We're a little annoyed that we weren't able to complete this program with the originally planned two unmanned and one manned mission. The fact is that as we continued to plan this mission it became more and more apparent that a human presence was going to be required. The issue of course being that no Achkaerinese astronaut has ever been in space non-stop for the relevant amount of time. Fortunately the camaraderie our astronauts share is excellent and they work well together, we therefore have selected Imogen Quan and Vince Eppes as the crew of Athena I and we're confident that they can manage the trip to Ishtar, deliver their payloads and bring the craft home." Prior to the launch the Achkaerin News Service was able to get the thoughts of the two Astronauts: Vince Eppes: "It's going to be a long trip, fortunately I'm taking a deck of cards and a good book but I'll make sure the ship gets there and back in one piece." Imogen Quan: "The longest I've ever been away from home was the six month intense training back when I was doing astronaut selection, this is going to feel longer but in reality it isn't going to be. Though I guess it'll be worth it because to be the pilot of the first Achkaerinese ship to orbit Ishtar? That's something special" ![]() CLASH OF THE TITANS! VIXEN'S TO PLAY QUINNTOPIA IN QUARTERS Achkaerin 3-1 UNP ![]() Vicky Akido in action The final day of group games at the Women's World Cup brought a fifth win in six games for Achkaerin's Vixen's as they defeated the UNP 3-1, the game saw Vicky Akido score twice with Amy Bell netting the third. The goals came through the expected methods, quick passing and changes in tempo resulting in the right pass at the right time putting someone in the right position to shoot. With possession under their control the Vixen's brought their pace and flexibility to the fore with Akido netting twice before half time and Bell halfway through the second half. However today's game was only half the story as there were many eyes on events in Group B where the runner up would play Achkaerin in the Quarter final and as typical luck would have it, the runners up in Group B were Quinntopia. Which means that the Vixen's will have to face off against their greatest rivals for a semi final place. Speaking about the quarter final coach Damien West had the following to say: "Achkaerin Quinntopia games have always produced something special on the men's side of the game you look back to the Tytor world cup where Julia coached the men's team to a 3-2 win in the group stages and then look at the tournament they won at home beating Quinntopia 5-4 on the way to taking the trophy. That's a fair bit to try and live up to, but we'll go all out to try and win the game on paper we're the form side so let's see what happens." Edited by Achkaerin, 15th October 2015 - 08:37 PM.

![]() ![]() SEVEN LUCKY NUMBER FOR VIXEN'S IN EMPHATIC WIN Achkaerin 7-0 Quinntopia ![]() It wasn't expected to be anything quite like this- the Quinntopian's gold medalists in women's football from the East Moreland games against a young, hopeful Achkaerin team who've shown great promise throughout the tournament so far. It was expected to be and predicted to be by the pundits a close fought game, how wrong they all were. Rather than the close run nailbiter of a match Achkaerin fans were instead treated to a massacre as the Vixen's showed their killer instinct in putting seven past Quinntopia to secure their spot in the semi finals with goals from Ruth Kinnay and Judith Carson accompanying a Tori Silva brace and Amy Bell hat trick. The first goal of the game came from Ruth Kinnay in the fifteenth minute thanks to an opportunistic fifty yard shot that caught the Quinntopian keeper off her line, Tori Silva then added her first of the game a few minutes later with a volley finish from inside the area, on the stroke of half time Judith Carson made it three with a header from a corner. In the second half the show belonged to substitute Amy Bell the young pacy striker brought on as Quinntopia chased the game was successfully able to play to her strengths racing clear half way through the second half to put her first of the night in, she would go on to add her second in similar fashion before completing her hat trick in the simplest of fashions, a through ball from Laura Pullman put her and Tori Silva through on the goalkeeper, Silva in possession drew the keeper to the side before squaring the ball for Bell to slot into an empty net. The rout was completed in the 87th minute when Tori Silva scored her second of the night from the penalty spot. After the game coach Damien West gave the following reaction: "You'll have to forgive me because I can't believe what I've just seen unfold in front of me. We expected a close game and for fifteen minutes we had one but I see Ruth make that shot day in day out in training and I'll tell you it rattled Quinntopia and gave us control of the game and we made it work for us going into half time three up, you always know in that position that the opponents will have to throw caution to the wind and in anticipation on went Amy and the rest is history. We've got Sparta next so we'll hope to carry tonight's momentum into that game and on to the final." |

![]() ![]() INTRODUCING THE LOTUS: IMPERIAL NAVY'S NEWEST SUBMARINE Computer model of the Lotus Class The Imperial Navy has today announced their first variation in submarine design. The Lotus class is according to the people who built it is designed in the cause of greater security across Mundus. It is also viewed by defence analysts as a long overdue expansion of the Imperial Navy's submarine fleet. The Lotus class incorporates cutting edge technology, multiple firing points, powerful engines and the capability to fire Charybdis missiles. The Imperial Navy has announced that thirty of these submarines will be brought into service. Speaking at the announcement Fleet Admiral Jackson stated: "The Lotus Class is a long overdue extension of our present undermanned, overstretched submarine service it's been clear since the opening of the Antares base that ten submarines even with our surface fleet was not sufficient, we've seen numerous times that with an increasingly unstable world the need for our protocols to be adhered to and in order to do that it's come to us requiring more craft." It is expected that the Lotus Class's main areas of concern will be patrolling the Kyne and the Great Northern Ocean. ![]() VIXEN'S SURVIVE SCARE TO REACH FINAL Achkaerin 2-2 Sparta (Achkaerin 3-2 pens) ![]() Rosa Carmichael making the crucial save in the shootout Following a seven nil thrashing of Quinntopia Achkaerin's football fans were probably expecting another simple task, one thing was certain- the players weren't, after all no team gets to a semi final without being good enough to win the tournament. While it was the expected playing style of Achkaerin that was on show, the Vixen's were made to work hard for their victory against a rather stubborn Sparta team. It was midfielder Claire Hurst who finally broke the deadlock in the second half, ghosting in at the far post to tuck in a Laura Pullman cross, but some solid set play work from Sparta brought the game back level a few minutes shy of the final whistle. So into extra time and the scare as Sparta took the lead early on in the first period of extra time, with the very real prospect of being victim to an upset the Vixen's raised their game throwing everything at the Sparta defence and getting their reward two minutes from time as Amy Bell fired home from inside the area. And so to the penalty shootout and where their counterparts floundered, Ruth Kinnay and Tori Silva showed nerves of steel and calm heads to give Achkaerin an early 2-0 advantage in the shootout there was to be a blip as Katy Bentley brought a save from the Spartan keeper but when Amy Bell chipped the ball neatly down the middle to make it 3-2 with one penalty left each it was definitely a case of advantage Achkaerin given that they had two chances to win- they only needed one with keeper Rosa Carmichael diving full length to turn away the deciding penalty and seal the victory. Afterwards the Vixen's captain Ruth Kinnay gave the following reaction: "That was tough, I've got to give credit to Sparta they came with a game plan and it was very effective, they took advantage of the toll our quarter final had put on us to frustrate us and then when they were able to get their equalizer they had the momentum and they looked like they'd win, but Achkaerin football players don't give up we play to the whistle and if we go down we go down fighting hard. The flip side to that is when you fight hard you tend to come through it, we got our second goal and in the shootout maybe we got lucky by going second, maybe we got lucky that Rosa stopped their first two attempts but a penalty shootout is based on two principles- experience and luck, we had the experience on this sort of stage thanks to our run at the East Moreland Games but I'll also say this I'm looking forward to the next time we play Sparta. A final against Zachachevania is what we thought we'd get if we won tonight, they've played some of the best football in this tournament and it won't be an easy game for us or them but we'll just have to see what happens." ![]() ![]() VIXEN'S WIN WORLD CUP IN DRAMATIC FASHION Achkaerin 2-1 Zachachevania ![]() Amy Bell scores the winning goal On a dramatic night of football in Dartfordia Achkaerin's women's team have won the first Women's World Cup coming from a goal down to beat pre-game favorites Zachachevania 2-1 in the last few minutes. Going up against the tournaments form team it was important that the Vixen's played to their strengths and the pre-game signs were encouraging as coach Damien West announced a lineup that put the team in a 3-5-2 formation the preferred formation of the squad at the international level. For the first half hour the two sides stood off each other, keeping players behind the ball and pushing for the counterattack, the game was opened up shortly after as from a corner Zachachevania scored the opening goal of the game. Scoring on the stroke of half time or close to half time is often regarded as the best time to score and the worst time to concede and it certainly looked like Coach West tore up his half time team talk and had to think up something else to say to try and get the Vixen's back into the game. The second half followed the first for the most part with changes being made by both sides, the crucial change for the Vixen's coming in the 73rd minute with the substitution of midfielder Megan Pearl for striker Vicky Akido this allowed a front partnership of Akido and Amy Bell supported by a third striker Tori Silva in a deeper position to for the first time create a woman for woman situation with the Zachachevanian back line. And they got their reward a cross from Claire Hurst found the late arriving Tori Silva who fired in the equalizer with four minutes to play. However the Vixen's weren't finished there buoyed by their equalizer they went back on the attack, into the three added minutes they were still pressing and then a through ball from captain Ruth Kinnay found Vicky Akido who let fly only to see the keeper take the sting out of the shot but as the defenders rushed to clear they were beaten to the ball by Amy Bell who slotted the ball in to score the winner and cue joyous celebrations both in the stadium and across Achkaerin. After the game Achkaerin Sports caught up with some of the main protagonists: Damien West: I'm so proud of the girls, going in as underdogs is something we aren't that used to even against Quinntopia we were on paper the form team and therefore favorites to win. But not tonight, tonight we were the underdogs and it would have been very easy for them to drop their heads at half time after conceding when we did, but they summoned up that character that saw them come back against Sparta and when they lined back up after Tori scored the first goal I could see it in their eyes there was no way they were going to lose. Tori Silva: To score in a World Cup final is a dream, it's not something you get to do every day so to get the leveler is something special and then to see the confidence and energy that can give to the team is something else, to snatch a victory like this from the jaws of defeat and to do it against the odds is something I'll never forget. Ruth Kinnay: Before we came out here I asked my brother Robert what it had felt like to lift the World Cup on home soil, now obviously with that being back home the atmosphere's are different but he did give me one piece of advice 'leave no regrets' or to put it another way give it everything you've got and that's what we did tonight, a goal down we rolled the dice, we threw everything we had including the kitchen sink at Zachachevania and the dice came up six's. Amy Bell: It's not the most stylish goal I've ever scored, a tap in from three yards is hardly how anyone dreams of scoring the winner in a world cup final, nah we all dream of beating three players, rounding the keeper and finishing it. But I'll take it and while some of the back pages will have that moment on them I just hope they remember this is about the team, what we've achieved is something we didn't even consider as possible, I remember watching the Men's World Cup final at the Fox's Den and wishing that it were me and now it is so looks like dreams can come true. The other interesting thing of note is that with this victory Achkaerin's international teams hold both the Men's and Women's World Cups an impressive feat to say the least but now they are most certainly the teams every other nation will be out to beat. And we leave you with the image below...

![]() ![]() AND THE BRIDE WORE BLUE Crown Princess Serenity and Crown Prince Isaac wed ![]() Today during a ceremony at Crystalline Castle Crown Princess Serenity has married her fiancee Crown Prince Isaac of Supreme Sovereignty. The ceremony carried out by Master Li Katsuragi of the Luna Isle Monks and the head of the Maiden Sister order Kaede Fubuki was attended by three hundred guests and according to early figures watched by close to eighty million people worldwide the majority of these people are believed to be citizens of Achkaerin and Supreme Sovereignty however these statistics do not include on demand services. The ceremony also included the ennoblement of Crown Prince Isaac as the Duke of Valtheim, a position he inherits from the mother of his bride the deceased Duchess Iona Azurewind. One of the big talking points in the buildup to the wedding was the wedding dress that Crown Princess Serenity was going to wear. However no one could have predicted what her choice was, rather than go for something new the Crown Princess, keen to keep her mother involved in the event, chose a blue dress from her mother's collection and had it adjusted for the day. A surprising choice but a popular one with the public it seems with one television viewer describing her as 'radiant' and another as 'magical'. The Crown Princess's choice of bridesmaids also proved popular with Lydia Daniels, Sakura Sheppard, Harper Rhodes, Georgia Vaughn, Charlotte Wilmington, Sophie Harrison-Ironside and Rhiannon Ironside providing a good mix of family and friends and in the process symbolizing the strong ties of friendship that Achkaerin has across the world. A major surprise was the almost poetic nature of Crown Prince Isaac's vows, he's not well known to the public of Achkaerin except for what can be found on the internet by simply googling him. So the unveiling of a skill like this is one that many are pleased with, proving there's more to this young man than just a military tough guy background it would appear there's a more sensitive soul in there. And to finish on a more lighthearted note- there are rumors that the 'Proudest Dad' stakes will be settled in an arm wrestling competition between Emperor Peter and Supreme Commandant Wesley. "The Emperor has correctly implied that if this was a matter related solely to the internal affairs of East Moreland there would be no call for such a response, the matter of High Rock for instance. However in this case East Moreland has to all intents carried out a military strike against either one or two nations that by any definition is an act of war. East Moreland therefore has a case to answer before the General Assembly they must explain why this was done and provide evidence to support their reasons. The world cannot simply allow such actions to go unchallenged." |

![]() ![]() ROYAL TWINS TO UNDERGO SURGERY ![]() The Royal Physician Doctor Maddy Dale (pictured above) has confirmed the expected news that Princess Aeolia and Princess Lamia will be undergoing surgical separation within twenty four hours. The conjoined twins have spent every moment of their six week long lives so far inside an incubator. Speaking about the decision to operate Doctor Dale said "It's always been on the cards, they were premature so we've had to spend time building up their strength to give them the best possible chance of making it through the operation and we now believe that threshold has been reached, the operation will be carried out tomorrow and we're optimistic about the chances of both princess's." Doctor Dale would not be drawn on giving a percentage chance of success. There will be more on this story following the operation. ![]() PLANS FOR CONTINENTAL UNITY REVEALED ![]() In a surprise move the Achkaerin government has announced it's intention to invite representatives from across the continent of Cotf Aranye to the nation for discussions so that the nations of the continent may better get to know each other- the move that is being seen in some quarters as a 'Ardian Union style move' was unveiled by Vice-Consul Rhian Kennedy earlier today in the following speech:
![]() FIRST IMAGES OF ISHTAR SURFACE RELEASED ![]() The Achkaerin Space Agency has released the first images of Ishtar transmitted back to Mundus by the swarm bots deposited on the planet only hours ago. The images reportedly indicate that the proposed landing when it comes to Athena III's voyage is still very much a plausible venture, the final proof will come with the Athena II voyage when more swarm bots will be deposited on the surface in a separate area of the planet along with a different sort of probe. The ASA has also announced its intention to extend the Athena program beyond the proposed Athena III landing in order to further study the planet and learn as much as possible. What this may entail is not yet known but once it is the Achkaerin News Service will be sure to bring you the latest. Edited by Achkaerin, 16th October 2015 - 08:56 PM.

![]() ![]() ATHENA I BACK HOME ![]() This afternoon Athena I touched down at ASA mission control at Djana-Ville, this marks the completion of the first stage of the Ishtar mission program. The two astronauts Imgoen Quan and Vince Eppes are presently undergoing their debriefing, though they did have the time to give a comment to the press of "It was something special to go further out than any Achkaerinese astronaut, we kind of envy those picked for the Athena III." It is expected that in the coming days Athena II will launch to deposit further swarm bots and according to rumor scientific drones on the surface for the purposes of simulation since to all intents the Athena II mission is the dress rehearsal for the landing attempt to be made by Athena III. IMPERIAL NAVY HONORS DEPARTED PRINCE ![]() The Imperial Navy has announced that the Narnia class frigate INS Silver Chair is to be renamed the INS Prince Caspian as a tribute to the recently deceased East Moreland Prince of the same name. When asked to explain the decision Fleet Admiral David Jackson stated "To lose someone so very young is something so devastating, memories are to be treasured but the memories must also endure- as a former navy man the Emperor petitioned the admiralty about this possibility and we're happy to oblige and in a way pay our own respects as a maritime people to the lost son of one of our closest ally's. I just hope the King and Queen of East Moreland don't mind the belated nature of this tribute." It is also expected that the INS Prince Caspian will be assigned to the Camp Redfern patrol group in the coming days. ![]() SERENITY TRIUMPHANT AS SENATE PAYS TRIBUTE ![]() Crown Princess Serenity during today's Senate session Ahead of the announced Cotf Aranye Partnership meeting the Senate has taken the time to pay tribute to the work of Crown Princess Serenity at the Ardian Diplomatic Convention, as a mediator there the Crown Princess is credited with brokering the peace treaty that ended the war between Nueva Ardia and Zachachevania and with negating the risk of the ongoing Mavrosian war in Caspivus becoming a more regional issue, upon entry to the chamber the Crown Princess was greeted with a standing ovaton. Consul Williams led the tributes stating that the Crown Princess had "Shown all the values of a true Azurewind, rather than rush in and start with the ultimate sanction she waited, she observed, she gathered the facts and resolved the issue demonstrating wisdom beyond her years." leader of the Endeavour party Senator Park said that "Crown Princess Serenity with this has cemented her position as one of Mundus's most prominent diplomatic figures." with Vice-Consul Rhian Kennedy stating "To keep Zachachevania at the table and get the agreements she got is something truly special not least because it amounts to more significant progress in hours than Rokkenjima has managed in years." following the tributes from all corners of the Senate the Crown Princess gave the following statement to the Senate:
![]() EMPEROR DROPS HINT ABOUT POTENTIAL HIGHWICK BID ![]() Following the news that East Moreland's Royal residence of Highwick Manor had gone up for sale rumors have abounded that Emperor Peter Azurewind may be interested in purchasing the property, the Marble Palace has not officially commented though a slip of the tongue from the Emperor when asked about it on a visit to a local orphanage today suggest he's intending on making inquiries about a possible purchase his comment being "Well I'd love to have somewhere off Achkaerinese soil to go if need be but I guess I'd have to take a look round any potential property first." Press sources now believe that the Emperor will seek to make arrangements to visit the property in the near future. Edited by Achkaerin, 21st October 2015 - 09:03 AM.

![]() ![]() GOWU TO HOST MUNDUS PRIDE ![]() The City of Gowu has won the right to host Mundus Pride 2016. The announcement came from Chief Councillor Xiaoling Hsu in a session of the Gowu Assembly where she gave the following statement: "As the Assembly is aware a few weeks ago we submitted a bid to host Mundus Pride 2016. Well earlier today I received a response from the Organizing committee, stating their gratitude and appreciation of our bid. The letter also stated that we would indeed be the host city for Pride 2016. The eyes of the world will be on this city in the coming weeks as we prepare for the festival, it's our duty not to disappoint." The Achkaerin News Service will be following the preparations for Mundus Pride with great interest in the coming weeks. ![]() ANGEL CLASS CRUISER "BROUGHT UP TO DATE" ![]() INS Angel after it's overhaul The Imperial Navy has announced that the entire group of Angel class cruisers is to be overhauled and "Brought up to date" the program which was kept a secret until now has so far benefited just the lead ship of the class, the INS Angel, though it is expected that the remaining five Angel class ships will be overhauled in the coming weeks. The updated features include stealth capabilities, a new top of the range integrated computer (courtesy of Riviere Corporation), upgraded radar and sonar as well as sharper teeth on the weapons front. But it is the engines where the pride is seen most- as explained by Fleet Admiral Jackson during the announcement: "Achkaerin's Imperial Navy has long followed a doctrine of fast naval craft capable of striking hard and with precision, we used to rely on numbers but no longer with the creation of the CCU last year we had to look at making our ships smarter so that we could keep our competitive edge and reassign the old craft to more laid back assignments. Let's be clear when it comes to attack capability the IRN Maelstrom may be the top of the league but on speed the INS Angel will leave others trailing in her wake." The wording of the statement has led to the belief that the INS Angel may have some experimental parts fitted to her designed to take her speed beyond what the other Angel cruisers will be capable of post upgrade. The INS Angel is expected to spend time in the Krimeon area to add a layer of protection to the JET efforts concerning the refugee crisis. In a related story the Imperial Navy has put their assets based at Camp Redfern on Condition Yellow, this indicates a heightened state of alertness, it comes in response to increased tensions between Helgara and Zachachevania. ![]() ![]() STRIKES FOR SOLDIERS EVENT RAISES RECORD AMOUNT AS ROYALS TRIUMPH ![]() In a shock result a team from the Royal Family has won the annual Strikes for Soldiers event in Valtheim. The ten pin bowling tournament held every year in the run up to memorial day (November 11th) raised a record amount of 35 million Iso's. With over half a million of that coming from the half strike count and a quarter of a million from the strike count and the one million bonus for Crown Princess Serenity's perfect game in the final. The tournament saw the invitation extended to the East Moreland embassy to compete, and compete they did finishing as runners up to the Achkaerin Royals. After the event Prince Simon thanked those who participated and those who donated while watching the event saying: "When I was a prisoner of the Elsif's this was one of the things I missed most, I always dreamed of winning this and to do it tonight with my sister, my wife and my cousin on the team is something special. But this event isn't really about us bowlers it's about the soldiers who day after day put themselves in harms way to keep us safe, we owe them so much and it's always an honor to be able to repay them with events like this. The money we have raised tonight will as always go to helping our wounded heroes in their recoveries and reintegration into society." Edited by Achkaerin, 28th October 2015 - 09:55 AM.

![]() ![]() CROWN PRINCESS TRANSFERRED TO IMPERIAL NAVY ![]() The Achkaerin military has today revealed that Crown Princess Serenity has been transferred from the Armored Corps to the Imperial Navy. The reason for the transfer has been given as 'medical reasons' with many people speculating that there's still some damage from the Sovereigntyian Mountain Range incident. The Crown Princess has been posted to the INS Angel and has been granted a commission with rank of Lt Commander. She also follows in both her parents footsteps since both the Emperor and the late Duchess of Valtheim served in the Imperial Navy. The Marble Palace has commented by stating the Royal Family's pride in the Crown Princess's continued service on both diplomatic and military fronts. ![]() ASA REVEALS ATHENA II CREW ![]() Astronauts Bex Bennett and Andrew Keane after being told they were the crew choice The Achkaerin Space Agency has publicly revealed on the eve of the Athena II launch that the craft will be crewed by engineer and commander Andrew Keane and pilot Rebecca 'Bex' Bennett. This choice of crew marks a consistent policy in the choice of the crew's for Athena I and Athena II in that in both instances Pathfinder partnerships were selected. What this means for the crew of Athena III is not yet known, but there will be many astronauts in the Achkaerin Space Agency hoping to hear their name called when that mission's crew is announced. Athena II has an almost identical mission to Athena I, the only differences being target location for payload delivery and the composition of the second payload. ![]() TEAM ARCTIC FOX HEADS TO NYA ALAND HOPEFUL OF SUCCESS ![]() The Achkaerin team for the Winter Games, dubbed team Arctic Fox, today left Achkaerin for Nya Aland ready for an intense competition. The team captain for the games as chosen by the athletes is for the second year running Melanie Stewart who skippers the women's curling team who will be looking for more success on the ice. Aside from curling Achkaerin's success is likely to come in the figure skating and potentially the ice hockey. It will likely be tough to repeat the success's of last year but Sport Achkaerin have set a target of thirty medals with an aim of ten of them being gold. ![]() ![]() ATHENA II LAUNCHES FOR ISHTAR Late this afternoon, Athena II blasted off for Ishtar. The craft christened Star Slinger will drop more swarm bots onto the planets surface as well as Riviere Corporations latest space faring gadget the Eppes Cosmological Probe (ECP) it is expected that five ECP's will be delivered. As for the launch itself it was reported as a good launch and the attitude of the two person crew is 'highly positive'. Director of Flight Operations Nicola Fernley stated shortly after the launch - "This is a bit different to the Athena I mission- Athena I was about getting there and back as well as laying the ground work. With Athena II we're operating off data coming from an eighteen month old mission to determine potential landing sites for the Athena III mission." ![]() AMAZING ANITA KICK STARTS ACHKAERIN'S WINTER GAMES ![]() Anita Hayami skiied her way to gold earlier Following on from a successful hosting of the Winter Games in Valkyria last year the Achkaerin Sports team has sent their best out to report on the games in Nya Aland today Nick Watson gives his take on the opening day of competition. The first day of competition at the Winter Games in Nya Aland saw Supreme Sovereignty rise to dominance in their specialty of Alpine Skiing taking a major haul. As the athletes battled it out on the slopes it looked to constantly be a question of 'Are the Sovereigntyians going to run away with this?' Fortunately the other athletes eventually found their well ski's and started to show their stuff, it's always interesting how adversity can lead to either a show of timidness or a show of pride, though usually in the sporting arena it is pride, you want to show that all your training was worth it and normally the only way to prove it is with medals. And medals there would be and while the day would ultimately belong to Supreme Sovereignty on the slopes there would be shocks along the way, with Jack Berta of East Moreland gaining the prestigious position of being the only skier to snatch a gold medal from under the dominant Sovereigntyian's noses, Dijel not known as a winter sports nation took silver in the men's super combined, in fact after day one of competition only the Arendesian team is without a medal and I don't think that was expected at the start of the competition. As for team Arctic Fox well they pulled off two major shocks, they weren't expected to medal today but in the women's giant slalom Belinda Mason finished second having had the gold taken at the last moment, but she had no complaints. The shock of the day though for the Arctic Fox's was in the women's super combined where Anita Hayami a university student from Gowu university took the gold medal by a tenth of a second from her Toshikawan rival, she stated afterwards "I gave everything I had and it worked, had I given anything less I'd have silver or bronze not gold." That for me is a perfect sentiment of the spirit of competition- to meet your opponents as equals and lay everything on the line that's what sport is all about. Away from the slopes it was a good day on the ice with the men's curling team destroying Sverige 8-2 and the men's ice hockey team defeating Zachachevania 4-1. Tomorrow sees the great Achkaerinese hope the women's curlers make their games bow, it also sees a shift on the snow to the biathlon, not traditionally an Achkaerin strong point but there's one thing about sport- momentum, once you have that it's very difficult for it to be stopped- either way the team management will be happy with the days progress two medals out of their target of thirty have been achieved and one of their target of ten golds is in the bag. ![]() ![]() BIATHLON BRILLIANCE AS MOMENTUM SNOWBALLS ![]() (fore) Achkaerin's Jess Hutchinson shooting in the Women's Mass Start (back) her East Moreland rival Day two of the Winter Games in Nya Aland promised to be a hotly contested affair with many proud militaristic nations or nations with militaristic heritage fighting it out for the medals. Speaking objectively if day one belonged to Supreme Sovereignty then day two was expected to be contested between East Moreland, Epanastasia and the hosts Nya Aland- and for the most part we got what we expected it's one thing to be able to ski the distance but once the shooting is added in the skill element skyrockets and this variable is the reason why many sports fans like watching the event because it isn't always the skier with the greatest physical strength that wins. From Achkaerin's point of view there was a small amount of success Harry Peters took bronze in the men's 10km sprint, while in the women's 15km individual Danielle Silver took silver behind a strong East Moreland competitor- but the best was to come in the women's 12.5km mass start there was to be an Achkaerin gold medal thanks to Jess Hutchinson the Achkaerinese competitor finished seven seconds clear of the second place East Morelander, she gave the following reaction: "We knew it was going to be difficult but there's a belief in the camp that we can make the unexpected happen, I didn't expect to win with this level of fierce competition I didn't fancy my chances but I was able to stay with the lead pack, the event's almost like a breath holding contest to see who cracks last, today that is apparently me I shot perfectly and was able to profit from the misses of my rivals and once I knew I only had one person for company I made a decision to take it out from distance, I guess I caught her by surprise with that." On more familiar ground the Achkaerin women's ice hockey team won their opening match against Arendesia 5-2, while Melanie Stewart's young curling rink got their title defence off to a dominant start as they brushed the UNP aside 9-3. ![]() ![]() CONSISTENCY THE NAME OF THE GAME AT WINTER GAMES ![]() Achkaerin's Mixed biathlon team (left to right) Danielle Silver, Harry Peters, Jess Hutchinson, Nathan Montague Day three in Nya Aland if you thought you'd seen everything then today was the day that made you think again. If day one of the games belonged to Supreme Sovereignty and day two belonged to East Moreland then day three most certainly belonged to Dijel, yes that well known winter sports competitor. Who would have thought it? A nation noted more for its desert temperatures than winter sports prowess now finds itself top of the Winter Games medal table. The question many will be asking is 'how?' The answer is simple the Dijel team didn't give anyone else a look in as the competition moved from snow to ice for the first time, they dominated the bobsleigh events winning them all and sharing out the Luge events with Samsarah, crucial silver and bronze medals acquired against the odds in the remaining biathlon events gave them enough to stand at the top of the table and though it is highly unlikely they will still there for tonight at least that little known winter sports nation can be very proud of itself. Team Arctic Fox kept up their medal charge, there was just the one medal today but it was gold. It came in the mixed biathlon event following steady opening legs from Nathan Montague and Danielle Silver it was Harry Peters on the third leg who made the first move to break up the field and once the baton was passed to Jess Hutchinson with only two competitors for company victory always seemed possible, she shot clean for the second day running and also went for home from a long way out dropping one of her challengers and then she kicked again later to establish the winning margin. Elsewhere on the ice the men's ice hockey team defeated Toshikawa 3-1 with a lightning pair of goals in the final period, whilst in the curling there was no mercy shown as the heavy scoring continued Achkaerin's men defeating Epanastasia 7-2. Tomorrow sees what is expected to be Achkaerin's quietest day in terms of medal opportunities but in the midst of all this both the women's ice hockey team and women's curling team will look to put themselves on the brink of quarter final places. ![]() ![]() NO MERCY ON ICE, ACHKAERIN'S CURLERS SUPREME ![]() So day four at the games at Nya Aland and the first day that Achkaerin didn't bring home a medal. However this was expected to be a quiet day and to be honest no one really expected Achkaerin's medal haul to start until day five especially the gold medals. So to have the haul the team presently has is an achievement in itself. So who did day four belong to? Well as a sports fan I have to say Arendesia a nation hanging towards the bottom of the medal table at the start of the day catapulted themselves up the table with an impressive daily medal haul. The constant surprises in these games are making for an intriguing competition, as we see nations excel in a fluctuating way we've yet to see a consistency level that keeps a nation challenging at the very top, it could be argued that the closest we've had to that so far has been the Dijel performance, but with the competition shifting to figure skating tomorrow it's not expected that Dijel will still be at the top when the curtain comes down on tomorrow's events- though we did say that yesterday. As for Achkaerin well with no success out on the snow it was left to our women curlers to put on a show and lift the teams spirits and they duly obliged with a crushing victory over East Moreland by a score of 8-1. In a game that sees the team all but book their quarter final place. Hopes are high for tomorrow when the sports that are Achkaerin's specialty's make it onto the program for the first time starting with the figure skating and then in the days to come we'll see Temari Shirou take to the ice rink in the short track program where she may line up against East Moreland's Sophie Harrison-Ironside and Jessica Mumford. |

![]() ![]() ACHKAERIN DANCES UP THE TABLE ![]() ![]() ![]() (left) bronze medalist Ellen Akido (centre) Gold medalist Rhyth Vilani (right) silver medalist Jenny Sendou Day Five of the Winter Games and a day that belonged to our Achkaerinese athletes as the charge up the medal table was sounded from the icy dancing floor. Yes you've guessed it, the figure skating competitions. And what competitions they were the trend set from the off by a silver medal in the men's individual, there would be a silver in the mixed team event as well, but the spotlight was solely on where the two best chances of gold were and the skaters did not disappoint. Rhyth Vilani, Jenny Sendou and Ellen Akido took a cleansweep of gold, silver and bronze respectively in the women's individual event with the lowest ranked of them finishing almost a whole nine marks ahead of the fourth placed Arendesian skater. So what was the secret to success? Well that might be found in their training regimen- all three have spent time training off the rink and in the ballroom as they sought to perfect their routines under the careful eye of renowned choreographer Jessica Hughes, they were also encouraged to choose the music for their routines themselves with Akido choosing Defying Gravity Sendou choosing Moonraker and Vilani Set Fire to the Rain. Miss Hughes was on the ground in Nya Aland to watch the competition and afterwards she said the following: "Tonight belongs to them, all I did was apply their talent in a different way, they always had the ability to win this thing I just didn't think they'd sweep the podium, but I'm proud of them, I got them to loosen up that was all I wanted to do and it worked." There was one further gold as Jenny Sendou teamed up with male skater Kevin St John to take the top spot in the mixed pairs event. While elsewhere both the male ice hockey team and men's curling team progressed to the quarter finals without incident. |

![]() ![]() WINTER GAMES WIDE OPEN ON THE SLOPES There are so many twists and turns in these games in Nya Aland that it's hard to keep track of which teams are in the ascendancy. In terms of the medal table, Dijel's persistence at holding onto top spot with their fingernails will have people wondering what days ago seemed the unthinkable question 'what if Dijel actually hold on?' However that said the Supreme Sovereignty team have kept up the momentum from their good start and are probably the best placed team in terms of winter games ability to take this out. Rounding out the top three are the hosts, a fact that is sure to please the organizers and game sponsors because the longer the hosts are close to the top of the table the more money they'll make. What's going to be key in the long run is consistency there are not that many disciplines left in these games, and I'd expect whoever controls the speed skating that comes up in a few days to be in the box seat to finish in the top position of the table, it's that close up there. As for today's events well we saw the resurgence of Supreme Sovereignty, the continuation of Dijel shocks and the charging hosts. From an Achkaerin perspective there was another gold medal this time in the women's halfpipe skiiing event won by Lara Shibuki, in a new national record. this means that at just over halfway through the games the team have achieved half of the medal haul they targeted in advance and there's every reason to believe that they'll keep on going strong to the very end. |

![]() ![]() DID THE EMPEROR BUY HIGHWICK? ![]() Following reports in the Northfort News that the East Moreland royal family have sold the estate of Highwick Manor to a buyer who wishes to remain anonymous, several members of the media have asked the same question 'Did Emperor Peter buy the estate?' there has been no official comment from the Marble Palace on this except to confirm that the Emperor did view the property- there have been no comments as to whether an offer was made. The Highwick estate was purchased for over three times the asking price with the money going to the MPS Charity, several members of the public have expressed their support for the 'overbid' one saying: "I don't know who bought it but whoever they are they've got a good heart." ![]() RED COMET RACES ARCTIC FOX'S TO THE TOP ![]() Temari Shirou celebrates her 1500 metre victory It's not often I get the chance to write about sports rather than actually take part in it. So imagine my surprise when I asked to handle the report for this day of the Winter Games. So let's start with the easy stuff, the day undoubtedly belonged to our very own team Arctic Fox as they skated their way to the top spot on the medal table. with three golds and a bronze, all three golds belonging to Achkaerin's Queen of the short track Temari Shirou known in racing circles as the 'Red Comet' as she took home the golds in the women's 500 metres, 1000 metres and 1500 metres. The hat trick of golds will certainly cement her place as one of speed skating's greatest racers. Despite the surprise of being top of the medal table Sir Gabriel Higginson the sporting director of Achkaerin Athletics has stated that "it's possible that Achkaerin may still be top of the medal table after tomorrow's events but there are a few days left and once we're off the short track program we don't have much in the way of specialist events left." So in other words don't get too carried away. I also had the opportunity after the days events to reflect on what was an outstanding performance by East Moreland's Sophie Harrison-Ironside when I caught up with her in the athlete's village, maybe it's because in East Moreland I was the party crasher who snatched the gold medal from under her nose but I've taken an interest in her performance in sport since then, because even back then I knew if we'd had to run another ten metres she'd have beaten me, she is a naturally gifted athlete and I'll tell you why it's not easy to switch between events I'm a cross country runner yet I also compete in 5,000 and 10,000 metre races in the off season as well as in various steeplechases but that's not much of a difficult switch you're still running for similar amounts of time, but this is different Sophie's her entire regime focusing on a completely different event and because it's a winter event the entire skill set is different. But what makes the performance truly exceptional is the time- I'm the same age as Sophie so we have the same sort of experience in cross country so in the East Moreland games we were at the same level, now here she's ran Temari Shirou to just outside two tenths of a second which considering that Temari has so much more experience on the ice it's hard to believe that a 'novice' could achieve that, but I'll say this now if Sophie hones her technique then next time out she could well be taking home gold medals. I'll also spare a thought for Shannon Holland, it's devastating when something like that happens, it's never happened to me quite like that but I can remember not being able to compete over a year ago in Kazarovia because of injury I only came back two months before the East Moreland games. It's important not to speculate at this time we don't know why the test has come back positive and until we do know it's innocent until proven guilty. So once again an 'Achkaerinese Vixen' has denied the East Moreland Duchess but like I've said give it time and the result will change. But that's not the important statistic today Temari took three golds, today Achkaerin sits at the top of the medal table. Edited by Achkaerin, 9th November 2015 - 11:31 PM.

![]() ![]() TEMARI MAKES IT FOUR AS ARCTIC FOX'S REACH TARGET ![]() Temari Shirou racing clear of the Samsarah skater in the middle stages of the women's 3000 metre relay Day eight of the Winter Games and just when you thought it couldn't get any better it did. It was widely anticipated that Achkaerin's stay at the top of the medal table would be a fleeting one but the team is still sitting at the top- and who do they have to thank for this? The short track speed skating team as both the men's and women's team won medals in their relay events, the men took the silver in the 5000 metres behind Epanastasia while in the women's 3000 metres the team won gold. This illustrates two things on the women's side firstly that there's plenty of strength and depth to back up Temari Shirou but also that Temari herself is one of the world's finest skaters as she'll leave Krokom with four titles from four races. As for the women's race itself it was the typical relay, cagey at the start but once Temari got her acceleration going the field was strung out and it was quite fitting that an up and coming skater in Elena Hunt brought the gold home on the last leg. The headlines on the back pages of many papers will lead with words like 'Fantastic Four' but this fourth gold was a team effort. Away from the medals there was further good news as Achkaerin's women's curling team progressed to the semi finals of their competition with a tactically controlled victory over Samsarah and the women's ice hockey team also won their quarter final though they had to survive the roulette of a penalty shootout to prevail over Supreme Sovereignty. These results mean that both those teams are guaranteed a medal match it only remains to be seen whether they will play for a gold medal or a bronze medal. The gold won today also means that the Achkaerin team have reached their target of ten gold medals and are rapidly closing in on their overall target of thirty medals. ![]() CONSUL HOPES SPARTAN WITHDRAWAL WILL LEAD TO RESOLUTION ![]() In a foreign affairs session in the Senate concerning the Helgara situation Consul Michael Williams has stated his hope that "The Spartan decision to at last behave rationally and withdraw their forces is hopefully the first step towards a swift end to this situation, it is regrettable that Helgara continue to be high and mighty about this rather than acknowledging their responsibility for this situation. We did hope that the Spartan withdrawal would signal a round of negotiations between Helgara and Zachachevania however instead we have the first shots fired." So what does this mean for the ever evolving chaotic situation? Well without Spartan support Helgara is likely to face the full force of Zachachevania and its allies alone, this means the outcome of any conflict can only be a Zachachevanian victory, everything is now in their favor and they know it hence their attack, the international community continues to work in the background to try to resolve this but with Helgara not maintaining lines of communication this is difficult and the CTO is yet to convene on the matter though it is expected that at the very least a discussion on the situation will be called for. The tragic fact is that this is a needless war that could have been avoided, if the Helgaran government had given the Zachachevanin companies their assets back then yes the economy in Helgara would have taken a short term hit but not as big of a hit as it will when this war's over- because it's entirely likely that if war hadn't been looming that major companies and corporations from across Mundus including possibly the Mundus Development Bank would have sought to bring stability to the Helgara economy, given the present situation that is of course off the table to the point where it now appears that the Helgaran government through their own foolishness have condemned their country and their people to not only certain defeat in a war but also a long uncertain future in economic terms. ![]() ![]() ![]() The Memorial Garden on the Liberty Plateau earlier today The eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, one hundred and twenty seconds where a pin drop can be heard throughout the country as the nation remembers the Achkaerin soldiers who have fallen and continue to fall in conflicts across Mundus. For each soldier lost a ceramic poppy is placed in the Memorial Garden and the name of soldier inscribed on the so called 'wall of heroes' as a permanent memorial to the lost soul. Each year the poppy field is the cornerstone image of the day as it reminds everyone that were it not for the bravery of the men and women who laid it all on the line and paid the ultimate the price we would live in a very different world. As is tradition the Royal Family led the tributes at the Act of Remembrance in the Memorial Garden, an interesting moment firstly because it marks the first time that Emperor Peter, Crown Princess Serenity and Prince Simon were all attending in military uniform, but also because Prince Simon has recently been stood down from his duties within the CTOMM. The first wreath was laid by the Emperor while the Crown Princess laid the second as she and her brother paid their respects. ![]() OFF THE TOP BUT STILL UP THERE After forty eight hours sitting on top of the medal table Achkaerin's Arctic Fox's have been knocked off. Not that anyone's surprised it was always very likely to happen. What was perhaps unexpected was that it was the hosts who carried the day taking many gold medals and indeed top spot on the medal table, knocking Achkaerin down to second place which they hold only on the silver medal count from Supreme Sovereignty. However no one should be under any illusions as to what the final medal table will look like it's so tightly contested at the top that one good day from one nation could prove decisive, it's possible we could know by the end of proceedings tomorrow who will finish top of the medal table if for example Supreme Sovereignty or East Moreland were to have a good day on the ice they might be far enough head for the lead to be unassailable. The highlight of the final days competition will now most certainly me the gold medal match in the men's ice hockey where the hosts Nya Aland meet the nation next door the UNP. As for Achkaerin well continued progress towards their thirty medal target was maintained and there was another gold with Cassandra Swan (pictured above) taking the gold in the women's snowboarding slopestyle event, in a competition as hotly contested as the struggle on the medal table it became about finding the right balance between safe and limit pushing jumps as Cassandra did a solid run capped by a '1080' twist as her finisher. The medal wasn't one that was targeted prior to the games but that doesn't make it any less valuable. |

![]() ![]() SURPRISE FIND AT THE BOTTOM OF THE OCEAN ![]() It's not often that something happens that makes you ask 'I'm sorry what?' well when I got handed the news about this find that was my reaction. An underwater pyramid located between Achkaerin's main island and Meridian Island discovered by two CORAL cadets who were putting a submersible through its paces. Such is the scope of the find that within hours of it being discovered Achkaerin's CETO representative Doctor Donna Steele was on the scene to have a look. The pyramid is reported to be mostly intact from an exterior examination. Presently steps to pump the water out of the interior are being taken so that exploration of the interior can take place. It is not expected that such exploration will occur until after the upcoming CETO Panel in Northfort. Speaking upon her return from CORAL Dr Steele stated that "This is a very mysterious find we don't quite know what it is because there's nothing like this in our historical records but I can't wait to get in there and find out." ![]() KROKOM GAMES SHAPE UP FOR GRAND STAND FINALE ![]() So with two days left of competition at the Winter Games it couldn't be much closer at the top of the medal table, the next two days will see the calm before the storm tomorrow as the Speed Skating program concludes before the Curling and Ice Hockey reach their conclusions on the final day. Today without doubt belonged to East Moreland, their speed skaters powered Mundus's little known sporting power up the table as many suspected they would, their prowess really underlined in the men's 5000 metres where they took a clean sweep of the medals. They didn't have it all their own way though as Nya Aland and Supreme Sovereignty also got in on the act which is why the top of the table remains very intriguing- however on the maths it all comes down to tomorrow between the present top three. And why is that? On the final day there are four gold medal matches East Moreland only participate in one of them the men's curling, Nya Aland only participate in one which is the men's ice hockey, winning those matches will not put them on top spot as it stands so it all comes down to the speed skating team pursuits tomorrow and objectively speaking the nation happiest about that will be East Moreland since if they were to win both team pursuits they would go to the top of the table and stay there with an unassailable silver medal count. Supreme Sovereignty and Nya Aland will hope that at the very least they can take one of the races away from East Moreland- the Supreme Sovereignty team will know that if they can win one race and Nya Aland don't win the other then they will finish at the top of the table. Nya Aland will hope to win one race at least and then look to take top spot on the last day in the ice hockey, the only problem they will face there is that if the other race is won by East Moreland then they will have to hope that Achkaerin's men's curling team win the gold when they face East Moreland. So what of Achkaerin on day ten? There weren't any gold medals but there were medals bronze in the men's 1500 metres, silver in the women's 1500 metres, bronze in the men's 10,000 metres and silver in the women's 3000 metres. Away from the medals the UNP knocked the Achkaerin women's ice hockey team out of the semi final stage which means the Snow Vixen's will take part in a bronze medal match on the final day of competition while the Achkaerin women's curling team defeated Nya Aland 9-2 to book their place in a gold medal match on the final day in what will be seen as Achkaerin's grand finale for the tournament. |

![]() ![]() ARCTIC FOX LEAVE IT TO THE CURLERS FOR DAY OF DESTINY ![]() Achkaerin's curling skips Melanie Stewart and Kevin Houghton So after the penultimate day of competition what do we know? We know that the tussle at the top of the medal table is now a two horse race between Supreme Sovereignty and Nya Aland, in fact it's probably not fair to even call it that as the only one of the two teams with any medal opportunity on the last day is Nya Aland, this is more akin to a football league where the top placed team is leading by virtue of having played one game more. Nya Aland can take top spot from Supreme Sovereignty on silver medals if they beat the UNP in the men's ice hockey gold medal match, a loss for the hosts will mean that Supreme Sovereignty finish on top. Now there will be people asking the question- what happened to East Moreland? The official answer we've yet to hear from the Snowbadgers camp but most likely it was pressure- remember in order to finish at the top they realistically speaking needed to win both team pursuits that would have made certain and taken away the pressure of having to win the men's curling gold medal match against Achkaerin on the final day- it's strange in sport how so often victory can be right there and yet people choke. Did East Moreland choke? Judging off their performance on day ten when they dominated the speed skating and should have had no issues in the team pursuits today I'd have to say it's a strong possibility though I will reserve judgement until official comments have been made. So looking forwards to the final day the attention for top spot as explained will be on the men's ice hockey gold medal match, but for Achkaerin their attention will be in the curling arena where they could walk away with two gold medals, first up Kevin Houghton will lead the men's team against East Moreland in a match that if they win will see Achkaerin draw level with East Moreland on gold medal count. After that the women's gold medal match features Melanie Stewart's highly rated team as they seek to win the gold against Sverige. It's also worth noting that if Achkaerin's men and women both win then the winter games team as a whole will take third spot on the medal table from East Moreland outright. Whatever happens these games have been full of surprises and I wouldn't bet against at least one more twist in the tale before the closing ceremony tomorrow.
