![]() Welcome to all within the empire and a special welcome to those from across the region who are tuning in for the first time. Crisis Control Unit Launched ![]() Today the Senate of the Holy Achkaerin Empire achieved Royal approval for the newly proposed Crisis Control Unit. The unit is a new state service designed to handle various crisis scenario's. The seal of approval was stamped on the legislation at 11am this morning. Rion Ayanami, 24, (pictured above) has been named as the Crisis Controller. The former Justicar will head up units of specialised personnel in humanitarian and rescue operations. Upon examination of the constitution that governs the unit it appears that unless it is a military situation the Crisis Control Unit has overriding authority in the field, in fact it would appear that the only people the unit cannot pull rank on are the Senate, the Royal Court, the Round Table Conference, Military when situation is dependent, Emperor and heir to the throne. ![]() ![]() SENATE CONDEMNS ISFAH EXECUTION ![]() Senator Ayax Semantar, leader of the Liberal Party, opened the debate The Achkaerinese Senate has condemned the execution of what is believed to be a Jukawan citizen by Isfah military personnel. In a debate occurring only hours after the event was broadcast the Senators sought clarification from the government on what course of action was being proposed. The motion was brought by the leader of the Liberal Party Senator Ayax Semantar who said the following:
Consul Michael Williams responded by stating that "We will take closer order of the situation as it unfolds, we hope to not have to ask our brave servicemen and women to put themselves into harms way yet again, but we will keep a very close eye on this situation as it develops and act accordingly." It is expected that the Imperial Navy will deploy a small group of ships to the Gulf of Liberty area in the coming hours to monitor the situation. ![]() SECRETARY GENERAL FRUSTRATED BY "CLUMSILY WORDED" RESOLUTION ![]() There's an odd atmosphere surrounding the Palace of Nations today as the Secretary General, Crown Princess Serenity Azurewind, and the Achkaerinese Minister for Commonwealth Affairs Cheryl Holmes appear to be on opposite sides over the latest resolution to go to vote. Though the pair are not believed to be arguing over it they do seem to share a difference of opinion, the Secretary General explained this in her regular interview session: "This resolution is like saying the CTO's heart is in the right place, and yes it is because the resolution is trying to do the right thing which is move satisfactorily beyond the original resolution concerning Mercia. The thing is that in doing so it has to address things that remain a concern, and this is where the problem with it is. There's no issue with the CTO wanting to be certain that the election that put Rupert Ichlingas on the throne is valid, the whole reason the CTO originally refused to recognize a High Monarch was down to circumstances and these circumstances do still persist. The question being asked by the CTO should this resolution pass is simply 'who is the legitimate monarch of Hassop?' now everyone knows there will be Mercian's who wonder why we're asking that question because they will say 'Check the records the Will says Rupert.' now that's fair enough but remember that knowledge comes from conveniently released emails and also remember that Grace Ichlingas the woman who by birth is the heir to the Hassop throne was crowned Queen following High Queen Victoria's death. So you have competing claims on that throne which brings into question the election of Rupert, not necessarily in terms of the result but in terms of his candidacy, if it is Grace not Rupert who is the legitimate Hassopian Monarch then all 1,293,842 votes for Rupert in the election would be rendered null and void. Now this is where I get frustrated by the clumsily worded nature of the proposed resolution, I don't oppose the intent, I'm just not a fan of the way it's phrased because it leaves holes that have already raised questions. If Rupert's the legitimate monarch of Hassop then that should be the end of the matter provided that the election was fair. But if it's Grace who is the legitimate monarch then there is a need for a second election with the correct ballot- this is where I'm frustrated the third point of the resolution should only be active if there is reason to a) doubt Rupert's candidacy or b) doubt the fairness of the election, if Rupert's the legitimate Monarch and the election result valid then the CTO stays well away we should not be saying that Rupert has to risk his position if he's there fair and square and based on what's known the only election tampering was allegedly by East Moreland and I find it hard to believe that they would be helping Rupert. Additionally stated arbitrary recognition for King John as High King? Well again I see the reason, he placed second to Rupert according to the polls so he'd be considered elected if you threw the Rupert votes out. But that's unhelpful and again clumsy, Mercia has changed since the events of a few months ago we don't know if the popular support is the same now as it was then so there's no reason to rely on old data. I will submit an amendment to the General Assembly should this resolution pass, should the resolution fall, something which presently looks unlikely, I will submit an amended form of the resolution, because it is absolutely important, critical in fact, that the CTO does not do the opposite of the intention. This can actually be over very simply if Rupert can show that he is the legitimate King of Hassop, produce the documentation, the will, the copies of the will, make Joseph Moore available to answer a few questions and we crosscheck that information against what Grace Ichlingas says and actually resolve this matter once and for all." There was no comment from Minister Holmes. ![]() YOUNG ARCHAEOLOGIST GOES IT ALONE TO UNCOVER MYSTERIES OF MUNDUS ![]() Melanie Bell, the daughter of the late Count Johnathon Bell, has set up on her own in the archaeology business. The outfit which she names 'écho' is said to be small but ambitious, utilizing contact with the CETO and CORAL to help find backing. The young Ms Bell, who is yet to confirm that she will take the family title, has said the following: "After I lost my father I went to Nova Ardia to see if he was right or not with some of his more controversial theories, turns out he was right, it was important for me to first get closure and then to decide what I wanted to do next. Now I want to explore and examine the other mysteries of Mundus and I'm looking forward to doing so." |

![]() ![]() ACHKAERIN REMEMBERS THE FALLEN ![]() The Memorial Garden on the Liberty Plateau earlier today There aren't that many moments where a pin can be heard dropping, some sporting events are the usual fair, but surely the most significant is today, the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month where for one hundred and twenty seconds the nation falls silent to remember those brave Achkaerinese soldiers who have fallen. As always the Emperor led the proceedings at the Memorial Garden on Libery Plateau in Valtheim, accompanied this year for the first time by his fiancee Renee Sandiego the Emperor took in the now traditional field of ceramic poppies, each one marking a fallen serviceman or woman, their name engraved on the flower and on the 'Wall of Heroes' in the centre of the garden. Prior to the silence the Emperor addressed those present:

![]() ![]() PATIENTS "RIGHT TO LIVE" GOING TO COURT ![]() Riviere Corporation's present cryogenic equipment has only just been certified for human use The idea of being frozen at the point of death only to be revived decades possibly longer in the future when medical treatment for something that would otherwise kill you is available is something straight of science fiction right? Well no longer, Riviere Corporation only recently developed cryogenic capability with an eye on future missions of the Achkaerin Space Agency but now the technology is at the centre of a patient's story that is set to head to court in the coming days. Sarah Clarke is a thirteen year old child suffering with a terminal illness, we report her name with her permission, she has asked doctors that when her condition kills her that she be placed in cryogenic freezing. With the capability now existing to carry this out the child now finds herself at odds with her parents over what she has termed her "Right to live". The matter has now been referred to the courts where a judge will rule on whether the doctors should follow the wishes of child or parent. It is expected that experts from Riviere Corporation will be called to testify as to the technology involved, the corporation, through Press Secretary Robyn Bamford, also issued a statement earlier today stating: "We were consulted by doctors treating Ms Clarke as to the viability of this possible course and gave our objective and reasoned answer to the question posed. We cannot without greater knowledge speculate as to the appropriateness of the course since such matters are best left to a case by case basis. Our experts will testify before the courts and we will abide by whatever decision is made." The hearing is scheduled for next week, there has also been mounting pressure on the Health Minister to get involved, there will be more on this as it develops. ![]() HARRISON VICTORIOUS IN HEYRA ![]() Megan Harrison has taken victory in the Heyran Grand Prix as the Formula Mundus season enters the home straight with both championships up for grabs, the result puts her twelve points clear of championship rival Sam Halliday with four races to go. The constructors championship is also looming large for Riviere Corporation Racing as the team requires just fifty one points from the remaining races, in the worst case, to be champions. After the race team principal Satella Watts gave the following reaction: "We knew it would be tough because this isn't an easy circuit to overtake on, we didn't get the lead into the first corner so we tucked in behind Halliday's Rytol and had to try and win on pit strategy, we gambled by switching Megan to a one stop to get track position, this got us the lead, but had the race gone on much longer we would have regretted it because that Rytol was closing in on us towards the end. Z did well to get third, our priority going into Luvonia this weekend is to get as close to the brink of winning the constructors as we can, for us it's important that we seal that as soon as possible, because we're at the point of the season where risks and gambles are needing to be taken. FOX'S ARRIVE IN KIRYAT GAT ![]() Achkaerin's Men's football team have arrived in Kiryat Gat ahead of the MFA V World Cup. The team which will be based out of Gushdan for the duration of the tournament arrived early this morning and enjoyed a light training session this afternoon, the national team captain Robert Kinnay (pictured above) has said "We've had a great welcome from the locals and it's great to communicate with other cultures and peoples through our sport again. But this is a tournament that we want to win and we're going to do everything we can to achieve that. We're not foolish we know with Calver, Marseilles and Hygelac in the group that we're expected to win every game by a comfortable margin." The team is expected to host a public training session in the next couple of days as the beginning of the tournament nears. Edited by Achkaerin, 24th November 2016 - 10:18 PM.

![]() ![]() LEGENDARY ROWANOAK HALL FOUND ![]() Rowanoak Hall viewed from above To many Achkaerinese people the great knight Estelaar and his band of companions are legendary figures, never really thought to have existed but used as guidance on how to live a virtuous life. However today Achkaerin News can report that the stronghold of this legendary band, Rowanoak Hall, has been discovered on Meridian Island. The discovery made by young archaeologist Melanie Bell is believed to be one of the most important in recent times in Achkaerin, up there with the discovery of the lost city of Alaris last year, Achkaerin's CETO representative Doctor Donna Steele has joined Ms Bell in further analysis of the site and has stated the following when asked for comment: "This is a big find and I congratulate Melanie on this, I think I can safely say that her father would be very proud of her, what we do now is analyse the site. Let's be clear this is without doubt Rowanoak Hall, what we do now is take the next step, if the stories are indeed true then Estelaar and his sixteen companions departed on their final journey and traveled across the world so what we're interested in doing now is going over those stories and seeing how much of this puzzle we can piece together, if we're lucky we may recover the 'seventeen fangs'. We honestly don't know where this will lead but we'll follow it as far as we can." ![]() IMPERIAL NAVY TO PATROL GULF OF LIBERTY AREA "MORE CLOSELY" ![]() The INS Seònaid Ayanami left port earlier today for the Gulf of Liberty area By: Penelope Noble, Defence CorrespondentThe Imperial Navy is to step up its patrols of the Gulf of Liberty area as the situation concerning Isfah and Jukawa continues to remain precarious. The move, which has been widely anticipated, was addressed this afternoon by Minister of Defence Adam Sheppard who stated: "We have seen in recent times a pattern to these things on Mundus. A situation inside a nation spirals out of control to the point where atrocities are committed or enabled to be committed by an unwillingness on the part of the international community to take a firm hand, these atrocities then continue as those nations that are prepared to act scramble to put assets in the area which takes time and by the time results are being seen the majority of the damage has been done, this was the case in the Andean Genocide, the Mercian Genocide, the demise of the UNP, Nova Ardia and now this situation concerning Isfah and Jukawa. I'm sure the pride I feel in the role our armed forces have played of late in containing such situations is shared by all those in this chamber, however I also feel frustration bordering on anger that their sacrifice has been required time and again and often it has been for very little, do not mistake me I do not wish to diminish the sacrifice of our brave troops but often the damage is done before they get there. This time however we intend to ensure that is not the case, in stepping up our patrols in the Gulf of Liberty area including the assignment of Task Force Olive Branch[1] under the command of Vice Admiral Webster aboard the INS Seònaid Ayanami we make known our capability and resolve to prevent this situation spiraling out of control. If this flares up as other situations have then we will act to protect the innocent and to ensure that a resolution to the crisis is sought through appropriate and proportionate means." When asked whether Achkaerin would work with other nations to deal with the situation if action was required Consul Michael Williams answered: "Absolutely, if this flares up it can impact other nations much more directly than it can impact us, so it is vital that any international response is coordinated." ![]() ![]() MINISTER OF HEALTH WEIGHS INTO RIGHT TO LIFE CASE ![]() Minister of Health Trini Malone Following mounting pressure to make an official statement on the case of Sarah Clarke, the Minister of Health Trini Malone finally did so, in a statement to the Senate Senator Malone stated that "The patient has the right to decide what treatment they wish to have unless they are believed incapable of making an informed decision. The court's decision in this case is concerned with that. As a mother I have an opinion but I will not state it since I have no wish to have my personal thoughts mistaken for the government's position. Ms Clarke believes she has made an informed choice, her parents do not it's a shame that this has been forced into court but there is now little choice but to trust our fine Judges to do their job in the same professional manner that they always do." The hearing begins tomorrow. ![]() FOX'S SHOW CLASS FROM THE START Achkaerin 4-0 Marseilles ![]() Central Midfielder Élyie Postel netted twice in the victory Achkaerin's men's football team got their World Cup off to a flying start with a four nil thrashing of Marseilles. The Fox's started strong, seizing control of the match early on and didn't let it go. The first goal came on the half hour as midfielder Élyie Postel headed home, the second came from fellow midfielder Cesc Santiago on the stroke of half time. Postel would go on to add his second on the seventy minute mark before the scoring was completed by trusted striker Dani Leonidas. The night however belonged to Élyie Postel, the midfielder plagued by injuries returning to the national team with great effect. Afterwards he spoke about how good it felt to be wearing the national jersey again. The team manager Dame Julia McCabe gave her reaction saying: "This is the start we wanted, a convincing victory and a very good performance, now we go and get ready to play Hygelac, though we're also talking Royal Protocol as well as training if King David of East Moreland plays." RIVIERE TAKES CONSTRUCTORS TITLE AND HARRISON GOES TO THE BRINK IN MERCIA ![]() Riviere Corporation Racing have won the Formula Mundus Constructor's Championship. Needing just a handful of points to secure the title the two drivers were determined to do so, this much was evident in the qualifying session as Z Kennedy put her Riviere car on pole position, and though Megan Harrison would start from seventh the pair were in no mood to fail. Off the line Kennedy pulled away while Harrison started to fight her way up the order. After the first round of pit stops Harrison and title rival Sam Halliday of Rytol dueled over second and third positions but two good laps saw Megan pull away and when team mate Z pitted with a quarter of the race to go Megan was in front, they finished first and second taking the maximum number of points from the race and with it the constructors title. In terms of the driver's championship Megan Harrison sits twenty points clear of Sam Halliday with two races to go, she is effectively on the brink of being world champion and will be confirmed as such if she wins the next race in Zimalia or outscores Halliday by six points. Even if she doesn't manage it in Zimalia she will hope to have as comfortable a lead as possible going into the final grand prix in Silverhills. Edited by Achkaerin, 5th December 2016 - 09:13 PM.

![]() ![]() ALTUMHECHIS A NATION IN NEED OF HISTORY LESSONS? ![]() Following a so called 'condemnation of imperialism' from the nation of Altuhechis and responses from East Moreland and Rokkenjima, today it was the turn of Achkaerin to issue its response, which was given by Royal Press Secretary Hannah Cartwright who said:
![]() FOX'S IN FORM Achkaerin 6-0 Hygelac ![]() Garaitz Iñarra celebrating opening the scoring Achkaerin's Fox's have continued their strong start to the World Cup with a 6-0 thrashing of Hygelac. In a game that they completed dominated it was the chance to see the old and new blend together and it didn't disappoint. The scoring was opened ten minutes in from the penalty spot by midfielder Garaitz Iñarra, who returned to the national squad following an excellent season in Azrea. By the half hour a second goal had been added this time by striker Mark Ichinose, in the second half the chances continued to come and so did the goals- Robert Kinnay, the captain, drilled a shot home from the edge of the area, talented midfielder Cesc Santiago added a trademark free kick and trusty Dani Leonidas got in on the act with a volley. The final word went to substitute striker Åge Lied, who with five minutes to go raced through the Hygelac defence and slotted home in expert style. The win gives Achkaerin plenty of breathing space at the top of their group and they'll look to carry the form into their match against Calver. Edited by Achkaerin, 9th December 2016 - 05:35 PM.

![]() ![]() "DON'T WASTE THE EFFORT MADE, DON'T LET THE SACRIFICES BE IN VAIN" - SECRETARY GENERAL'S PARTING MESSAGE ![]() After two terms in office Crown Princess Serenity is today packing up her office at the Palace of Nations, and there will be no surprise in it this time, no this time her term is served. Her time in office will be defined by her determination and persistence in terms of events surrounding the Andean Genocide, as she prepares to leave the job she has spoken about what many suspect will form the backdrop to the immediate future:
It's expected that the Crown Princess will depart Rokkenjima in the coming hours for some much needed rest and relaxation before returning to official Achkaerinese duties in a few weeks. ![]() CHRYSALIS BASE GOES INTO QUARANTINE ![]() Achkaerin's Chrysalis military base in Protoa has employed quarantine measures in the wake of an outbreak of an as yet unknown contagion. The protocols mean that no one stationed at the base is permitted to leave Protoa until this situation is resolved. It is expected that teams from Achkaerin's Crisis Control Unit will be flown out to the base to administer medical treatment and to provide support to Protoan authorities should it be required, the CCU is well experienced in circumstances like this having been at the forefront of the Kaiju Virus outbreak in Safraen some years ago. ![]() HARRISON V HALLIDAY - SILVERHILLS PREVIEW ![]() ![]() Twenty races down, one to go, the Constructors title has gone to Riviere Corporation Racing, the drivers championship is destined for either Megan Harrison of Riviere Corporation Racing or Sam Halliday of Rytol Racing. Megan enjoys a thirteen point advantage over her Morelander rival meaning that all she has to do is finish on the podium and she will be world champion regardless of what Halliday does. As the Formula Mundus paddock rolled into Silverhills for the weekends title decider there has been extra interest in the aftermath of Queen Matilda announcing she is pregnant with the child of Sam Halliday. This is a matter that has been briefly spoken about by Megan Harrison who when asked about it as she arrived at the circuit said: "If I'm champion on Sunday that doesn't mean anything outside of me having acquired more points over twenty one races than Sam has and having outraced him through the season, this is a sporting contest not a decision making tool over whether Queen Matilda was right to split from King David. I know that in places there will be people who view it differently but I'm just here to race." FOX'S STAY STRONG Achkaerin 3-0 Calver ![]() Dani Leonidas netted all three of Achkaerin's goals Achkaerin's footballers have won their third group game, sweeping Calver aside three goals to nil and maintaining their position atop Group E. All three goals came from striker Dani Leonidas and this performance will give the Fox's confidence that they can go far in this tournament. He volleyed his first in from a tight angle on the twenty minute mark, he dribbled his way through on the hour mark for his second, and in stoppage time at the end of the second half he nodded his hat trick goal home. After their next game against Marseilles the team will know the equations and will know precisely what they have to do to progress to the knockout stages, however Dame Julia McCabe, the teams manager, is keeping thoughts of the knockout rounds a taboo subject within the squad until the job in the group is done. ![]() WHO WILL BE CHRISTMAS NUMBER ONE? ![]() With ten days to go until Christmas it's the time of year when the music industry turns its attention to the battle for Christmas Number One. There are several contenders for the spot with many fans wondering if this will be the year that Alchemy Naismith finally wins the title. Of interest is that Renee Sandiego, the Emperor's fiancee, has made the shortlist for the first time. It's expected to be a close run thing all the way to finish. |

![]() ![]() CROWN PRINCESS TALKS ABOUT LIFE AT THE CTO AND THE MOST DIFFICULT OF CHALLENGES ![]() Crown Princess Serenity today attended the Achkaerin Youth Assembly annual conference as a special guest. The session of the conference which she attended took the form of a question and answer exercise, in this the Crown Princess answered several questions, some fun and some serious ranging from her morning routine to CTO procedures and even what sort of coffee is the best in Rokkenjima. However as could perhaps be expected with recent news reports the big question concerned the former Empress of Rokkenjima Beatrice Anselmo- when asked what she made of the former Empress's fall from grace the Crown Princess responded as follows: "First I want to state that I take absolutely no pleasure in the role I played in bringing Beatrice down, I have never had anything but admiration and respect for the Empress Emerita, when I started taking on foreign visitation duties going to things like the Cultural Exchange Treaty negotiations her presence was something that was seen as reassuring, you knew in the back of your mind and in your gut that you'd get somewhere and she had over time earned her reputation as a more than competent diplomat and leader, this was the sort of person you wanted to be- respected, intelligent, resolute. However when I took office at the CTO I inherited the aftermath of the Andean Genocide I came in with a job to do- to show the world that the CTO was capable of policing itself and that it didn't matter which member was under the microscope, justice would be pursued. Originally the evidence pointed to Sumire Abruscato and Field Marshall Lancaster that they had somehow managed to act without the knowledge of the Rokkenjiman Government, no one could understand how such a thing was possible until a statement made in the Dartfordian Press indicates that the then Emperor Alexander Anselmo knew about the events continuing to happen in Nueva Ardia. Now that knowledge changed everything because we now had the Emperor of Rokkenjima in the know with no action being taken by Rokkenjima against Toshindai under the terms of the Mentorship. This immediately sent alarm bells ringing because if he knew then surely Beatrice had to know, they are married after all so it's reasonable to assume he'd tell her. Now I don't like that I put Beatrice's name on the list of people to be investigated by the Uppsala Convention CAC but I don't regret it, in fact it's safe to say that this is the most difficult decision I have ever had to make- why? Because I know both Beatrice and Alexander, their personalities, how they act, what they're likely to do and I know that what they're going to stand trial for is something that doesn't tally with my knowledge of them but the evidence says otherwise- given the objectivity of evidence and subjective nature of emotive feelings I decided to trust the evidence, the suspicion is reasonable enough to believe that there are questions that need answering. And I don't think I'll ever forget the look in Beatrice's eyes at Pyrena when I took custody of her on behalf of the CTO. I said before that I take no pleasure in this, what I do take out of it is pride, pride in the CTO that it was able to police its own members and continues to be able to do so. The importance of that cannot be overstated for we've heard the term 'Rokkenjiman Organisation.' or 'Rokkenjiman Alliance' applied to many things, well if that were true of the CTO wouldn't those people have expected the result of this to be somewhat different?" When asked about the possibility of the Empress Emerita facing charges elsewhere the Crown Princess said "At the moment she's in Achkaerin's maximum security prison at Coral Rift, she's there with the permission of the Rokkenjiman Government and leadership, once she has stood trial and if it comes to it been sentenced for crimes in relation to the Andean Genocide we are more than willing to support East Moreland and Rokkenjima in their separate cases against her." It is widely expected that the Crown Princess will be back in Rokkenjima in the coming days to visit the new Empress. ![]() CTO DMZ GOING NOWHERE FOR THE MOMENT ![]() The CTO operated DMZ on the old Nova Ardian/Ionian border is going nowhere for the moment. Or so says General Kakashi Fuji the commander of the DMZ, following threats from the new Ionian government the General made it clear that "This DMZ is a CTO mandate that means we are here until the CTO says different, if the CTO says by resolution end the mandate and withdraw then we will but until then no, until that happens we stay put and we continue to do our jobs and I'll remind the government of Ionia that they may want to consider things a little more carefully when throwing threats around when this DMZ was built it wasn't just to protect Ionia from Nova Ardia but also to protect Nova Ardia from Ionia, we have a job to do and we'll continue to do it until told otherwise by the CTO. That is the process that I am obligated to follow I suggest that the government of Ionia consider working with us to show that they are capable of doing what we are doing at present the sooner they do that the sooner they're likely to be rid of us. Because we're not going to give Tarranova or whatever name this new Ardian nation calls itself a free run." ![]() HARRISON WINS FORMULA MUNDUS CHAMPIONSHIP ![]() Megan Harrison (right) finished third but gained enough points to take the title Megan Harrison has won the Formula Mundus Driver's Championship, by finishing third in the Silverhills Grand Prix she acquired enough points to hold on to her championship lead and see off rival Sam Halliday of East Moreland. Starting from fifth Megan had one advantage which was that her team mate Z Kennedy was starting from third the very position Megan needed to achieve. For the majority of the race Megan found herself racing for fourth with Razak Hussein, eventually passing him with ten laps to go, she closed in on her team mate and took the position she needed, though with Rahman Hussein passing Halliday this was more than enough. After the podium ceremony (pictured above) Megan gave the following reaction: "Wow! I mean...ok I'm speechless. I never thought I'd be the world champion, even when it looked increasingly more and more likely, I never dared to believe it'd actually happen. I'd like to pay tribute to the team, each and every mechanic has been awesome this year, Satella has pulled some great strategies out of her hat at tough times, Z has been a fantastic team mate I couldn't have asked for anyone better. And I do want to pay tribute to Sam Halliday he's had a great year and he gave us a really good run for this, next year is something to look forward to. But for now this is the realization of a dream because everyone on the grid dreams to be the champion I wanted it when I was karting as a kid and now here I am. It's been a great year for us, and for the fans who've turned out whatever the weather, whatever the time, wherever the race and they've been given some great sporting entertainment." |

The singer who has perennially featured in the Christmas Charts has never taken the number one spot, mainly due to the persistence of other groups such as AKB48, but this year she was able to overcome the group of girls some affectionately call her "fated rival" to take the top spot. According to her agent Ms Naismith is "Overjoyed" at the success and is looking forward to the coming year where "she will thank her fans with her upcoming performances." |

![]() ![]() Happy 2017 to all our viewers, here is the New Years edition of the news. ![]() COUNT RAVENSWOOD'S DAUGHTER NAMED SOVEREIGN DUCHESS OF VEDURO ![]() Amy Ravenswood, the adopted daughter of Count Emerson Ravenswood has been named as Sovereign Duchess of Veduro. Ms Ravenswood has said "It's a humbling moment to be given such a role as this, it's going to be a major challenge for me and I'm looking forward to it. I'll be travelling to Veduro in the coming days and I look forward to working with the Veduran government." Ms Ravenswood is the adopted daughter of Count Emerson Ravenswood following a maritime shipping disaster some years ago, when the Count, who still serves in the Achkaerinese Coast Guard as a helicopter captain, pulled her out of the water. With both her parents dying in the incident the Count adopted her a few months later. Ms Ravenswood has also refused to comment on rumors speculating that her adopted father is in a relationship with the Empress of Rokkenjima. ![]() THEIA SPACE TELESCOPE IN ORBIT ![]() The Achkaerin Space Agency has today confirmed that they've successfully positioned in orbit the Theia Space Telescope (TST). This is a long term replacement for the Iris satellite that is nearing the end of its life, the TST comes with several improvements on the Iris, allowing for better data collection and extrapolation. When approached for comment the Director of the ASA Gary Hale said "This is Project Science Star, we've done a fair bit of exploration around our solar system as have several other space agencies Science Star is about looking beyond our own system and seeing what's out there." It is believed that should the opportunity present itself that the ASA will approach the proposed International Council for Science for further funding of the project. In related news the ASA has confirmed that the EM Drive that was being tested for the Tarranovan's has been shipped back to the Divine Hegemony of Ardia. ![]() ![]() CITIZENS OPTIMISTIC AS NEW CHAPTER BEGINS ![]() Count Emerson Ravenswood was spotted with Empress Evanthe at a recent concert It hasn't gone unnoticed that with the recent changes in Rokkenjima that relations between Achkaerin and Rokkenjima have significantly if not dramatically improved returning to levels not seen since the time of the Seaforthian War. There are many theories as to why this relationship turned sour and probably more theories about what has changed to suddenly improve the relationship. One of the factors much talked about has been the presence of Count Emerson Ravenswood at the negotiation table with the Rokkenjiman Empress, though for some followers of the story there is a theory that there may be more to these two than meets the eye, a relationship perhaps? Well if so a recent trip to a Muse concert in Rokkenjima appears to have added to that speculation. When asked about it Count Ravenswood stated the following: "My friendship with the Empress of Rokkenjima is something I am fortunate to have, she is after all one of the most noteworthy diplomatic figures on Mundus and has been an inspiration to many people over the years and will undoubtedly continue to be so for many years to come. The fact is that while I was selected to negotiate for Achkaerin on the basis of having Ardian History and Culture as my area of expertise it is arguable that had it been the Empress Emerita across the table we'd still be in the middle of a slanging match. Fortunately it wasn't her it was Empress Evanthe someone who has been Queen of Seaforth, who has been the leader of international organisations and has therefore been able to see the world from multiple viewpoints not just what we've previously termed the 'ivory tower of Pyrena'. The point is that we now have a new chapter in the relationship between our two countries and that's something to be thankful for and to look forward to." When asked if he'd invited the Empress to the upcoming Artisan Exhibition, an annual art festival sponsored by the Count, the answer was "No comment." ![]() COURT GRANTS "RIGHT TO LIVE" ![]() The High Court of Artaxia has today ruled that terminally ill thirteen year old Sarah Clarke can be cryogenically frozen at the point of death, there is no cure presently available for Ms Clarke's condition but it is believed that in the course of time medical advances will mean that what she suffers from is no longer a death sentence. Mr Justice Summers passed down the ruling stating "This is a very difficult situation because there is the wish of the daughter and the belief of the parents, the sole question is whether the child understands what they are asking for and understands the consequences of the situation from all sides, having heard her testimony and having asked her questions myself I am satisfied that she does understand sufficiently and I therefore grant the applicants request and direct the doctors involved to act accordingly, I also suggest that Mr and Mrs Clarke respect this decision and do what they presumably have wanted to do from the start- enjoy the remaining time they have with their daughter." ![]() ![]() THE HISTORY BOYS: WORLD CUP WINNERS AGAIN Achkaerin 4-3 Nya Aland (AET) (FT 3-3) ![]() Cesc Santiago headed home the winning goal in extra time Two years ago Achkaerin's national football team became heroes when they beat Dartfordia to lift the World Cup on home soil on that famous night in Valtheim. Last night the heroes became legends as they lifted the World Cup for the second time becoming the first team to win the tournament twice, however the Fox's were made to work for it in a match the like of which they haven't played in since facing Quinntopia in the quarter finals two years ago. Having taken the lumps two years ago for the "Most boring final ever." this one made up for that with plenty of drama in a seven goal thriller that had a little of everything in it. In a game that was touted as whether the Alander's defence could keep up with the speed of Achkaerin's pass and move game there were to be plenty of twists and turns and the first plot twist came right out of the gate as within the first ten minutes the Alander's struck twice and more was to come as at half time the Fox's found themselves three goals behind. With memories of a semi final defeat to Blue Shadow in their first tournament rearing its head (they lost 5-0 that day) something had to change, and change it did with left midfielder Nico Heizenberg having picked up a knock he was subbed for striker Nick Mizuki and the formation changed to playing three up front. The result was near enough immediate as on the hour mark it was captain Robert Kinnay put through by Élyie Postel who got the Fox's first goal, ten minutes later Mizuki fired home and then as the game entered its last five minutes the ever reliable Dani Leonidas rounded the keeper and netted the equalizer. And so to extra time, thirty minutes of edgy play and the Fox's with their tails up it took until just two minutes remained but a Garaitz Iñarra cross was met by midfielder Cesc Santiago and the game winning goal scored, and we won't say there weren't tears on the bench from the manager as the team completed the comeback. Speaking afterwards a proud and emotional Dame Julia McCabe said the following: "I don't believe what I've just seen, football.... They never gave in and that's what won it for them, they refused to be beaten tonight, Nya Aland gave us a major scare tonight and I sure wouldn't want a repeat of the start of the game but the character of the lads tonight I can't speak highly enough of they showed why they're champions, they played like champions and they've got nothing left to prove anymore." The captain of the victorious Foxes Robert Kinnay stated the following: "We were all deflated at half time, three nil down in the World Cup final is not something you expect to be able to come back from but the boss wouldn't let us give up on it she told us to make sure we left everything on the pitch because winning or losing doesn't matter provided you've given everything. When we got one back we were cheering up when we got the second we had hope, with the third came a realistic belief and you could sense a shift in momentum for extra time and when Cesc headed in the winner the emotion was just...I can't describe it." YOUNG TALENT'S TRICK SHOT GOES VIRAL ![]() Ami Shaoran (pictured above), an eighteen year old year old mathematics student attending the university of Gowu, has caused a bit of an internet sensation as a trick shot she apparently performed for her sisters birthday has gone viral, the shot which covers five hundred feet in terms of distance is believed to be one of the longest ever attempted potentially the longest and arguably the most complex. Speaking about the reaction to it Ami has said "I was just having some fun for my little sisters birthday, she's still getting used to seeing me play on television, as am I, so for a present I thought something like this would be fun to do. The fact that it then got uploaded and shared by my sister is ok and the reaction amazing and a little overwhelming." Edited by Achkaerin, 11th January 2017 - 10:43 PM.

![]() ![]() "GENIE OUT OF THE BOTTLE." - EMPEROR ON ROKKENJIMAN IMPERIAL DECREE ![]() Emperor Peter has delivered his response to the annual Rokkenjiman Imperial Decree, speaking to us earlier he stated the following: "The Decree itself falls far short of what was expected. Considering all the changes that have taken place in Rokkenjima one would expect that the first such decree delivered by Empress Evanthe focus more on the shortcomings of the previous Rokkenjiman Regime and the steps that will be taken to rectify the situation, but no they are only given a passing mention and instead we see the majority of the address given over to a history lesson. That said the follow up was a little more detailed even if it doesn't fully do what people wanted and in places may be impractical. Naturally nothing anyone says can stop Rokkenjima from drawing up treaties, there are moments you would believe it to be their national pastime, but let me perfectly clear there will be no Achkaerinese signature on any treaty that in the view of the Achkaerinese leadership compromises national security, there will be no disarmament of any of our nuclear warheads, I wish we didn't need them, I wish they didn't exist but they do and their existence has like it or not kept us safer. There has only been one use of a nuclear weapon in history and that was by Achkaerin coming up to seventy one years ago to end a war, we invented these things, we let the genie out of the bottle, we wish we hadn't but we did. And the fact is that there's nothing that can be done to undo that, take away the weapon and you open the door to every terrorist who wants one, not because the missiles are out there but because the knowledge is." ![]() WORLD WAR II WRECK FOUND ![]() The wreckage of the RVS Trident, one of the two big name Valetinettian battleships from the second world war has been discovered on the sea floor in the Gulf of Safraen. The discovery made by noted young archaelogist Melanie Bell and friends has sent waves through the Achkaerinese archaeological society. The RVS Trident is credited with more kills in the war than any other naval ship including at least thirty five confirmed Achkaerinese vessels and many suspected. She was sunk in 1944 while fighting the INS Liberty when asked for comment Kayleigh Ayanami, now ninety years old but the then captain of the Liberty, said "As you get older it's natural that memories fade but I still remember every detail of that battle. From sighting her to engaging her, to out thinking her captain and then ultimately sinking her. I remember everything, every hit, every order. I'll be interested to see what happens to her." When asked what would happen to the ship Melanie Bell said "We're going to salvage her, restore her and hopefully re-float her. Let's get her up and working." ![]() NATIONAL TRIALS UNDERWAY ![]() Achkaerin tennis star Kevin Nikaido was in action on day one of the trials Achkaerin's national sports trials have got underway today, the event which is the last qualification event for the Mundus Games is held each year and serves primarily as the qualification opportunity but also as an opportunity for fans to wish the athletes luck and for the athletes to integrate as a team. The main headline this year is that following the retirement of Sir Gabriel Higginson from the position of head coach for the games that Princess Esme Azurewind (sister of the Emperor) has been appointed on an interim basis. The Princess a former national boxing champion in her younger days has spoken previously of the role as "a challenge but one I'm up for." the coming days will determine the team that will go to the Mundus Games but some names are already on the plane as the Achkaerinese football teams have made their mark. Additionally the golden girl of cycling Sammy Lawson, now a Dame herself, will be going for more glory. Making his return to the games is also tennis star Kevin Nikaido who will go in both the mixed doubles and men's singles it is understood due to the injury of world number one David H'Daen. The major interest though is on those yet to qualify since there are some big names yet to make their qualification bar, these actually include the Emperor who competes in the equestrian and Crown Princess Serenity who is doubling up on the multi event side with the heptathlon and pentathlon in her sights. |

![]() ![]() ROYAL COLLEGE OF MEDICINE OPENS NEW HOSPITAL ![]() Vice Consul Rhian Kennedy posing with some of the hospital staff Achkaerin's Royal College of Hospital of Medicine has today opened it's new state of the art teaching hospital in Valtheim. The rather appropriately named Hope Hospital is to focus around maternity and children's medical needs as well as providing a safe environment for women and young girls, the hospital was opened by Vice Consul Rhian Kennedy who following the opening said "This is a major step for Achkaerin in regards to international organisations such as the Global Childbirth Initiative and the Mundus Health Organisation, potentially even the Worldwide Doctors Organisation which we debate membership of next week. To have a facility like this where our student doctors, student nurses, student midwives and trainee counselors can learn on the job in such numbers as this hospital boasts is brilliant. We're hopeful that this hospital can live up to its name and become not only a national but international leader in childcare and midwifery." EMPEROR QUALIFIES FOR MUNDUS GAMES ![]() Emperor Peter is heading back to the Mundus Games for a third time having successfully met the qualification criteria at the national trials. The Emperor who has two Mundus Games gold medals in equestrian events is heading back hunting for more. The Emperor has been entered in the Three Day Eventing, individual Cross Country and the Puissance. Given his record in previous competitions there's reason to be hopeful of his medal chances, however this is his first major competition since losing his right arm and the Emperor has spoken about the need to "learn how to ride all over again." When talking about the selection Princess Esme stated "I'm not foolish enough to pick my older brother just because he's the Emperor, he has to meet the same bar as everyone else and he has. In the coming days I hope to see my niece Serenity qualify and we'll see what else happens." |

![]() ![]() IMPERIAL NAVY TO DECOMMISSION COMMAND SHIP CLASS ![]() The Seònaid class command ship has seen plenty of action in its time By: Penelope Noble, Defence CorrespondentThe Achkaerinese Navy has announced that in the coming weeks the Seònaid class command ship will be phased out of service, the three vessels of the class the INS Seònaid Ayanami, INS Kakashi Fuji and the INS Hermione Leonidas have been in service with the Imperial Navy since 1975, 1976 and 1978 respectively and in the minds of the admiralty the time has come for them to be taken out of service. Speaking about this today the commander of the Imperial Navy Fleet Admiral David Jackson stated: "For over forty years the Seònaid class has patrolled the seas and oceans of Mundus it has seen many things in that time, it is a class whose vessels bear the names of three of Achkaerin's greatest heroes and we have no wish to see the names of such heroes leave the active ships roster nor do we wish to weaken the capability and responsiveness of the Navy. Which is why that the three Seònaid class vessels that we are decommissioning will be replaced by three Daedalus classes bearing the same names. We expect that the first of these three vessels the new INS Seònaid Ayanami will be ready for deployment within the next few weeks as construction on her has been underway for some time with the new INS Kakashi Fuji and INS Hermione Leonidas entering service at a later date." ![]() CROWN PRINCESS GOING TO GAMES ![]() Crown Princess Serenity will be joining her father in the Mundus Games. The Crown Princess who two games ago won gold in the women's basketball will this time be competing in the heptathlon and the pentathlon. Her prospects in the pentathlon are believed to be reasonable as in terms of an individual competition this is what the Crown Princess competed in at junior level, her prospects in the heptathlon are unknown since it will be her first time competing in that event. When asked about the competition she said: "I'm surprised I met the mark for the heptathlon, I'm used to riding, swimming, fencing, shooting and running not throwing javelins, jumping over bars and into sandpits. It's going to be fun though." |

![]() ![]() GOVERNMENT URGES CAUTION OVER HELVETICA SITUATION ![]() Minister of Foreign Affairs Richard Chambers laid out the Achkaerinese position on the situation in Helvetica The Senate's session this afternoon was dominated by the unfolding situation inside Helvetica, since this was the first business session of the Senate since the change of government in Helvetica there was an understandable amount of concern across the floor at Liberty Hall with several Senators waiting to make statements on the matter, the government position was laid out by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Senator Richard Chambers who stated:
The statement received broad support across the Senate however some did voice concerns over the Government's position with several Senators pushing for more information about the government's response if certain situations arise, at this point it is understood that the Achkaerinese Government will handle such matters should they arise and not before. ![]() AKB48 TO TOUR ROKKENJIMA ![]() The popular Achkaerinese all girl pop group AKB48 is to tour Rokkenjima, it has been announced today. The group which normally performs domestically and at high profile international festivals such as Glastomundus will perform at several venues across Rokkenjima with details being made available at a later date, their manager Count Emerson Ravenswood has called the tour a "Landmark moment." as it forms the groups first international tour. Fans are reportedly excited at the prospect of the tour and many will be hoping to obtain tickets when they go on sale. It is also understood that another of the artists on Count Ravenswood's label, Taylor Davis, will be joining the group as the warm up act for the tour. Speaking about the tour Count Ravenswood also said: "I'm really pleased for the girls, we know how good they are and they like performing outside the country, take Glastomundus they've been there every year since it was opened up to international acts and to be honest if they weren't playing they'd probably turn up in the crowd. This tour is their first international tour and they'll be bringing all their big songs with them. And before anyone says anything no there is not an envelope containing tickets on its way to Pyrenna Castle...yet." |

![]() ![]() SENATES APPROVES LISA CHARTER - COMMENDS CROWN PRINCESS'S WORK ![]() ![]() The Crown Princess shared her views on LISA after the Senate vote (right) the emblem of LISA The Imperial Senate has by a vote of four hundred and fifty five to forty four ratified the charter of the League of International Security and Aid, otherwise known as LISA. The motion received strong support from the Unity/Patriot Party coalition, Liberal Party and the vast majority of the Endeavour party whose leader Syusuke Park saw several Senators break ranks and vote with the Puritan Party against the ratification. However the motion passing was never in any doubt with Consul Michael Williams personally leading the charge and the debate. The ratification sees the abolition of the CIS and the CSTO with their rebirth and unification under the LISA banner. The Senate also through a statement given by Minister of Defence Adam Sheppard commended the work of Crown Princess Serenity as the prime architect of LISA. As for the Crown Princess herself she shared her thoughts following the ratification in the Senate stating: "This has been the realization of a long term project pre-dating my term as Secretary General at the CTO. For too long Mundus has paid the price for a lack of an international community willing and able to deal with situations as they arise. We thought that with the fall of the USR we could breathe easy, we were wrong and it's time to make right on that. Not one more genocide, not one more suffering child wondering why their parents aren't coming home, not one more humanitarian crisis going unanswered. Not now, not ever, not on our watch. But also this is just the start of the process, the next challenge is to reinvigorate the CSU and there is a plan in the works for that." ![]() WHAT TO EXPECT ON HELVETICA'S REFERENDUM DAY ![]() With the referendum in Helvetica now only a matter of hours away the head of the Achkaerinese observation team Celine Tyler has been explaining what can be expected when the polls open and following their closure.
![]() ESME'S EYE: GYMNASTICS ![]() Abigail Snowden competing in Achkaerin's national trials last month By: HRH Princess Esme Azurewind, Chef de Mission Achkaerinese Mundus Games TeamsWhen I was asked to take over as the head coach of Achkaerin's national teams for the summer and winter Mundus Games, I'll be honest I thought my brother had made a mistake, today though I think differently. I've been asked to write something of an assessment on the various Achkaerinese prospects for the upcoming games, and this first one focuses on the gymnasts. The team is strong there's depth and inspiration within them and they're proven on this stage, there is freshness as young trampoliner's Molly Berg and Haley Murray make their games debuts. There are also debut appearances for Jared Barrett on trampoline and Torsten Adelsköld and Luisa Virgili in the tumbling. How will these newcomers do? Well we never apply pressure to our competitors - this is their first games so its all about the atmosphere and enjoying it, there's no pressure on them whatsoever and no expectation whatsoever so maybe they can do something special. Naturally attention will turn to the leading female Achkaerinese gymnast Abigail Snowden known as the 'Queen of the Floor' in terms of expectation. But this year is a little different as she goes for team glory and a total of five individual medals for a grand total of six, she's certainly got the skill and ability to do it and if she does it will be the greatest sporting achievement that any Achkaerinese competitor has ever managed at the Mundus Games. Abigail's already one of Achkaerin's sporting greats this could be the moment that the great becomes a legend. Do I think she can do it? Yes. Will she? Well we're going to have to wait and see. |

![]() ![]() ![]() CROWN PRINCESS RESPONDS TO OSMAN COMMENTS ![]() (left) Princess Freya of East Moreland (right) Crown Princess Serenity Following statements made by Erin Osman, some of which raised suggestions concerning Crown Princess Serenity a response was expected and the Crown Princess has wasted no time in giving her reaction. Earlier today the Crown Princess also gave a statement on the matter during the Emperor's questions period at the Senate earlier today, the Crown Princess was standing in for her father who is presently aiding with humanitarian efforts connected with the Phuebra crisis, her statement was as follows: "I believe that Ms Osman is referring to a conversation that myself and Princess Freya had during the first attempt to establish the Illumic Council. Did I make the accusation? Yes I did Freya knows I did she was after all there and I see no point in lying about it. Why? Because the timing of it combined with what we could find out at the time when Achkaerinese intelligence looked at it suggested a possibility - that East Moreland in retaliation for a terrorist attack carried out by the Borland Separatists, carried out an assassination shortly following this there came the summit where the Mundus Convention on Universal Rights was founded after which I was a Borlander prisoner for three days, after which I met with Freya. Do I accept that Safraen Police came back with an accidental death decision? Yes. Does that mean I think that's what happened? Yes, there exists no evidence to the contrary and years down the line there is still nothing to challenge those events. As for what I said at the time to Freya, I blame myself, I was looking for someone to blame and still recovering from a bone marrow transplant I lashed out and for that I wholeheartedly and unreservedly apologize. Let's get this clear the Borland Separatists are a terrorist organisation and need to be fought at every turn. Now if Princess Freya's actually called me what I'm supposed to have been called then frankly I couldn't care less, I've been called far worse than that and I've shrugged that off in the time honored phrase "sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me." And finally let's get one last thing clear Princess Freya jealous of me? As if. If anything I'm the one to be jealous of her, she's got many fine qualities that young women around Mundus should aspire to." OOC- Quick note, having looked through the relevant posts I can see why Serenity would perceive EM involvement in the assassination but I am also aware that it depends entirely on the ambiguity of a certain statement in a post. So yeah basically Serenity's holding her hands up saying she got it wrong and saying sorry. Edited by Achkaerin, 14th February 2017 - 08:52 PM.

![]() ![]() GOVERNMENT ISSUES FOREIGN AID REDISTRIBUTION ![]() (left) Minister of Foreign Aid Hannelina Porter and (right) Consul Michael Williams seen before the Senate session earlier today The Achkaerinese Government has today announced a redistribution of the Foreign Aid budget, stating that "It is time we saw through a commitment we made when we aided Nya Aland." The statement alludes to the Government's desire to provide assistance to Nya Aland in the wake of the UNP Crisis which was elaborated on by Consul Williams "There's been a need for a long time to rebuild Uppsala and provide shelter, warmth and food for millions of people. It is unfortunate that to date only East Moreland have been contributing aid to this effort. Achkaerin would have been doing so were it not for having to funnel our foreign aid budget through Gowu to support Toshikawa's recovery following their civil war. Well with the restoration of the Yoshimo rule in Toshikawa we have a far more stable nation and their economy will begin to redevelop. This now allows us to send what aid we can to Nya Aland to help them. We hoped that the worst was behind them but it is time to help again, we not only send this funding but will instruct the immediate deployment of the Crisis Control Unit to the country." GOWU INTER FAITH FORUM GOES VIRAL ![]() ![]() ![]() (left to right) Master Li Katsuragi of the Deum Beastia Faith, Priestess Hinata Akido of the Cult of Helus, Archbishop Katherine St Claire of the Church of the Revealed Saints, Asano Yūki High Priestess of Rosarity Gowu's most recent Inter Faith Forum has gone viral, the crazy thing is that no one seems to know why. However most people suspect that it was because the leaders of the more major faiths of the City comprised the panel for the first time. Through the course of the day the various members of the panel answered questions about a variety of topics including the referendum's in Helvetica and Satanica, the situation in Phuebra, the fugitives on the run from the Iwi, the upcoming Mundus Games and the hopefully approaching trials concerning the Andean Genocide. The Forum is seen positively throughout the city and will be returning in two months time, the forum is viewed by the Gowu Government as vital to maintaining a level of tolerance and understanding between the various cultures present within the City. ![]() AIR FORCE BRINGING BACK THE SWALLOW ![]() By: Penelope Noble, Defence CorrespondentThe Achkaerinese Air Force is to reintroduce the Swallow Type. The Swallow (pictured above) was originally introduced in the 1950's as a bomber and retired following the first Toshikawan Civil War thirty years ago in 1987 as the Raven type took that role. Now apparently thirty years later the Air Force is to bring a small number of them back into service, it has been confirmed however that the Swallow's new role will be a support role as opposed to a front line combat role. When asked why the decision had been made Sky Commander Sam Fernley, the commander of the Achkaerin Air Force, said: "The ever evolving nature of war means that as troops fight in conflicts they gain experience, they also come to notice problems at all levels of those conflicts- Riviere Corporation have been working on several solutions to such problems, they talk to us and we talk to them- the reintroduction of the Swallow in a supporting role means that our troops on the ground will be able to operate more effectively and more efficiently." ![]() ESME'S EYE: TAEKWONDO ![]() Arya Warner training at the national trials a few weeks ago By: HRH Princess Esme Azurewind, Chef de Mission Achkaerinese Mundus Games TeamsAchkaerin isn't really known for sports like Taekwondo, we do reasonably well at it but we're not exactly specialists in it. So what of the these hard kicking people going to Detroika? Well let's look at the major prospects the team numbers eight with one entry in each weight category. Frank Nolan and Anthony Stewart make their games debuts and join six other athletes who only have one games under their belts so the team is actually relatively speaking full of newcomers. But that said there's something about the spirit within the team that makes you believe that anything is possible. The big hope is Arya Warner in the women's 57kg category, the youngster has speed and agility. Off the mat she's got one of the bubbliest personalities I've ever seen but when she's on the mat and that bell goes she's got this cold blooded focus and more than that she has the control and accuracy to back up her talent. She's also the team's pick to carry the Achkaerinese flag at the opening ceremony, which traditionally means that unless we're hosting she's the first athlete into the stadium. As some will know each time we go out to a Summer or Winter games the athletes vote on who is going to carry the flag at the opening ceremony and they've picked Arya this time. ![]() ![]() BEACON REOPENED ![]() The newly updated Beacon Base will provide a home for the Imperial Navy's Illumic fleet while fulfilling Achkaerinese commitments to the defence of Veduro In a joint statement earlier today the Sovereign Duchess of Veduro Amy Ravenswood and the Achkaerinese Minister of Defence Adam Sheppard announced that, as part of Achkaerin's obligations to protect Veduro, the old World War two base named Beacon will be reopened[1]. The base which was where Achkaerin's famed Liberty Class destroyer was developed and built was pivotal to keeping Veduro's independence intact during the conflict. It is expected that Achkaerinese ships assigned to the Illumic will be stationed at Beacon. When asked for comment Minister Sheppard stated: "Ever since Veduro's referendum we've had our ships in their ports based there, but we acknowledge that such a move was only a short term measure, it was important to not clog up Veduro's shipping lanes in the long term which is why this decision was made, we've been preparing the base for weeks and it is near completion now. We expect full operational capability within a month." When asked about potential concerns in the Illumic the Sovereign Duchess stated: "The Illumic is a busy region and there are many pressing and persistent issues. What's important to me as the Head of State of Veduro is that the country stays safe and secure, this allows us to do that." ![]() ESME'S EYE: SWIMMING ![]() By: HRH Princess Esme Azurewind, Chef de Mission Achkaerinese Mundus Games TeamsIt's often said that "Water is a friend to the Achkaerinese" as a nation with a proud history on the water that's understandable, and it's held true at the Mundus Games, Achkaerin boasts a good range of swimming talent going into the games, with plenty of new faces joining some returning stars. The major medal threat for Achkaerin in the pool comes from Becky Brittain (pictured above), the Avalon based swimmer returns to action hoping to defend the titles she won last time out, having shaved a second off the Achkaerinese record in the 800 metres individual medley at the national trials she appears in no mood to fail, and to be fair she has a strong chance of defending that title in Detroika. Also returning are the Bates sister's Eloise and Faith, who will be hunting more medal success following Faith's triumph in the 200 metres freestyle at the last games. But it's not all old faces, the new faces are also ones to watch out for. The big one being Ember Aguirre who goes alongside Becky in the 800 medley. All in all this is a strong team of swimmers, potentially the best group that Achkaerin has ever had at a Mundus Games, I believe based on what I've seen that they're up to the challenge and can produce something special but let's not discount the people they will be up against, the likes of Daisy Greechan are not easily beaten, but that doesn't mean it's impossible either. [1] This was all RP'd and agreed months ago...slipped my mind until recently. |

![]() ![]() LAWSON LEADS THE CHARGE ![]() Sammy Lawson and in the background bronze medalist Melanie Parker Day two of the Mundus Games and Team Fox have begun their medal charge. Following Jason Bennett's silver medal on day one in the men's road race today it was the turn of the women, and from the Achkaerinese point of view it was the turn of Sammy Lawson to enter the fray and she didn't disappoint however she wasn't to have it all her own way as the challenges were many and relentless throughout but on the final climb five kilometres from the finish she made her break and held the lead over the line to claim her eighth Mundus Games medal. Speaking afterwards Sammy gave the following reaction: "That was tough. When you're the favorite, when you're the marked danger, you know that the other teams are going to try and take your legs out but I've got to say thanks to the girls who were with me, Franchesca, Jacqueline and Ashley chased down the breakaway's, Katy kept the Peloton moving and then when we hit the bottom of that last climb and Melanie took the front position all I had to say was 'Go Mel' and she led me up the climb getting me out into the open and with only the Temcluse girl for company all we had to do was keep her out of our wheels and then get the lead out right, which we did. But it's an odd event this because I've got the medal but I can't do what I do without those five girls backing me every pedal rotation of the way. It's also a bit of a relief because I'm the captain for the Achkaerin team this year so I wanted to get a medal to start things rolling." ![]() In the pool it was the first day of action in the swimming program and while the day belonged to Floodwater and East Moreland, picking up ten and thirteen medals respectively, there was something of a special story for the Achkaerinese as Ember Aguirre (pictured above) took two gold medals in the women's fifty metre and one hundred metre freestyle, Ember who's by trade a paramedic with the Achkaerinese coast guard is a close friend of Becky Brittain who gets her games underway tomorrow and entered the trials by her own admission to test herself has described the success as "Beyond her wildest dreams" and the interesting thing is that she may not be done with the medals yet. Elsewhere in the pool David Burton took the gold in the men's one hundred metre breaststroke and Faith Bates defended her two hundred metre freestyle title. Rounding that up Eloise Bates took bronze in the women's fifty metre backstroke. ![]() In the tennis Alice Walby was back in action, rainbow laces and all, as she began her campaign in the singles up against a player from East Moreland she dispatched her opponent in straight sets winning 6-0, 6-3. The youngster who's tipped as the next big thing in Achkaerinese women's tennis is joined in the singles by number one Melody Cartwright who also opened up with a straight sets victory over her Alander opponent. Finally in the women's team events Achkaerin's women's footballers opened up with a three nil victory over Meche thanks to a Amy Bell hat trick and in the baseball Achkaerin defeated Vaguzia by a score of eight to two. All in all the position of third after two days of competition is good but according to Princess Esme Azurewind the team are hopeful of maintaining the medal challenge and consistency even if the position suffers. But and I quote "We've booked our seats for The Last Leg on the last night and we intend to see Adam Hills carry out his agreed forfeit." Edited by Achkaerin, 1st March 2017 - 09:23 PM.

![]() ![]() BRITTAIN BESTS AGUIRRE CHALLENGE IN POOL...TWICE...BUT ONLY JUST ![]() Becky Brittain cemented her position as Achkaerin's leading swimmer with her victories on day three at the games. Day three of the games in Detroika and there was more success for Achkaerin, but it doesn't really matter day three from an Achkaerinese perspective was about one thing Becky Brittain versus Ember Aguirre, both qualified for the four hundred metre freestyle final comfortably and treated the fans to what has already been described as an epic fight, they went stroke for stroke for the race, until the last turn which Brittain kicked harder off giving her a slight edge that she held down the final length to take the gold by the smallest of margins. So close that neither of them knew who had won until the results of a photo finish were revealed. And it was much the same story a couple of hours later in the eight hundred metres freestyle at least in terms of a tight finish, the race played out different as over the longer distance Aguirre went out hard opening out a lead that she almost held onto but she was caught and passed coming into the last ten metres, the end result Brittain with two golds, Aguirre with two silvers. The pair will be involved in the remaining swimming events but that will be on the same team not competing against each other. Following her two victories Becky Brittain spoke to us saying: "I think only Daisy Greechan has terrified me as much as Ember has tonight, she ran me close in the four hundred and with a little more experience could have had me in the eight hundred. For her to do this well in her first games is impressive and hats off to her, it also shows just how strong Achkaerinese swimming is getting." As for Ember Aguirre she said the following: "I don't believe how close I got. To be able to race alongside the swimmer I look up to the most and to almost beat her twice is unreal Becky did great and showed her class as a champion swimmer, I've got two PB's and I won't deny I wanted those golds but I'll be back in the future and Becky had better watch out." It wasn't all bad news for Ember though she was soon back in the pool and back to winning ways as she took gold in the women's fifteen hundred metre freestyle, in other swimming news Cameron Bailey took the bronze in the men's version of the event. ![]() In the tennis Kevin Nikaido (pictured above) got his campaign for gold underway with a straight sets victory over his Alander opponent, the Achkaerinese number two progressed through the match without much concern breaking his opponent late on in the first set to take the momentum and then with a commanding second set performance he set up a comfortable third set, the result was 6-4 6-2 6-4. Speaking afterwards Kevin said: "This is just one match at a time at the moment, there's another match in the round robin before we get to the quarter finals and then we see what happens. I'm feeling like I'm in good shape but this is a tough competition with some top quality players involved. We'll see what happens." Edited by Achkaerin, 1st March 2017 - 10:38 PM.

![]() ![]() STEADY HANDED SCARLET STUNS THE WORLD ![]() Day four of the Mundus Games and the surprising success of Achkaerin's competitors shows no sign of abating, though perhaps today was the day when Achkaerin got their first real 'shock' medal. It came in the women's fifty metre pistol event and was won by young gun Scarlet Hendricks (pictured above). The young shooter hails from Dovah and got into shooting when she started university, shooting not being a sport Achkaerin is known for there was surprise when Scarlet qualified for the final round with the highest score and then came the tension and nerves as she tried to maintain her advantage over more established shooters. But maintain it she did and afterwards she spoke to us: "I don't believe I've just done that. To go and win a gold medal in a sport against the likes of Revana and East Moreland who are among the big names in competition shooting is just incredible. I couldn't believe how well I shot in the qualifier to be honest I've never done that well before and then I just had to make sure I didn't give too much ground this afternoon. But I'm just speechless about what I've managed to do." ROWE RAISES THE BAR ![]() Jaycee Rowe following her medal winning lift In the women's weightlifting Jaycee Rowe was in fine form as she powered her way to a gold medal lifting two hundred and sixty two kilogram's, fifteen more than the second placed East Moreland competitor. It's a result that increases her personal best significantly and also smashes the Achkaerinese national record. Also in action in the weightlifting were Lauren Byrne who took silver in the 63kg, Madison Fletcher took bronze in the 69kg and there was to be a silver for Jayla Sims in the over 75 kg category. It's a performance that exceeds the pre-game target for the weightlifting team. After the medal ceremony Jaycee gave her thoughts: "I felt like I had a big lift in me but I never thought it'd be that big. It's been a bit of a roller coaster knowing you have the advantage and knowing that no one's managed to match you, I've never won like that before I've always had the pressure, today was different I effectively had a free lift at the end so I went for the national record because I had nothing to lose." BRITTAIN HAT TRICK ![]() Becky Brittain was back in action in the pool this time in the eight hundred metre's individual medley, she lined up alongside strong competition including Daisy Greechan of East Moreland, a swimmer that Brittain has previously said terrifies her, it was to be a fairly even contest throughout with the decisive moment being the second half of the freestyle element as Brittain managed to get in front and stay there until they touched the wall, the win gives her her third gold medal of the games. After the medal ceremony she spoke to us: "I've said it before and I'll say it again, Daisy absolutely terrifies me but that's not me saying she's a bad person, she's great to be around, she's great to compete against because it's an opportunity to test yourself and she'll always make it difficult for you no matter how many races she's had beforehand, it's the pressure she puts on the field by being involved, at the end of the day she's one of the strongest swimmers on Mundus and her rise to prominence is a testament to her ability, I came into swimming at this level a couple of years ago and you always want to challenge those you look up to, Ember gave me a close couple of runs earlier in the meet and today I've edged out someone who I greatly respect. I'm happy with a medal of any colour so to get three golds with the relay to come is very special." There was also a bronze medal for Felicity Hughes in the women's four hundred metre individual medley. |

![]() ![]() CRISIS CONTROL UNIT DEPARTS FOR UPPSALA ![]() Charlie Henson (right) the Crisis Controller of the CCU pictured with his second in command Scott Hughton surveying a desolate landscape shortly after their arrival in the former UNP following the initial meteor strike Achkaerin's Crisis Control Unit has departed for Uppsala to render aid to the city alongside aid workers from Nya Aland, the Commonwealth of the Iwi and East Moreland. The journey was delayed by the arrival of Storm Tammy back home but they are now on the way to Uppsala. In a statement issued today Minister of Foreign Aid Hannelina Porter stated: "We faced challenges getting supplies and personnel safely into the air especially given that the back end of the Achkaerinese storm season is the fiercest part of it. However we can now confirm that the aid we pledged is on the way and hopefully will do the good that it can do." Charlie Henson, the Crisis Control Unit leader has stated: "This situation has for a long time been the most serious humanitarian emergency on Mundus, it's regrettable that we weren't able to stay and help last time but the situation in regards to foreign aid from other nations or the lack thereof to be precise meant that we were talking about a very small number of nations spreading themselves more thinly than was possible and something had to give eventually. But now we're going back and we're going to do what we've wanted to be doing for a long time, ensuring that the people of Uppsala are safe, healthy and cared for, we will make sure they get through this winter in cooperation with East Moreland, the Iwi and of course Nya Aland." ![]() ANTICIPATION RISES AHEAD OF RIVIERE PRIZES ![]() Leo Miyanaga, Riviere Corporation's Executive Board Chair during today's announcement It's that time of year again, the time when all the scientists, engineers, politicians etc in Achkaerin start wondering whether or not they've been nominated for a special honor one of the awards collectively called the Riviere Prizes after Timothy Riviere who conceived of the prizes. The annual awards ceremony which dates back to the late nineteenth century has traditionally seen a focus on domestic achievements but according to Riviere Corporations Executive Board Chair Leo Miyanaga that is set to change during a press conference today he stated: "Traditionally these awards have been seen as a domestic honoring of our best and brightest individuals. But we have to acknowledge that there are many other people across Mundus worthy of these acknowledgements which is why this year for the first time, the panel will consider award nominations for international figures and we hope for a successful evening when the time for the ceremony comes." ![]() BATTLING BRITNEY SECURES CROSS COUNTRY GOLD ![]() It's been a busy forty eight hours in Detroika at the Mundus Games and while the Achkaerinese medal rush seems to have slowed slightly it's still coming on strong. Day five as is traditional these days coincided with Djana's Day and as the athletes celebrated the festival into the evening they had many tales to tell. First to the Cross Country and some great successes there on the men's side the team won the bronze medal. On the women's side it was over to Britney Hammond, the national title holder to carry the hope of a medal and she duly obliged with the gold, though she didn't have it all her own way as many others stayed with her throughout the majority of the race, she had to battle but eventually she was able to break clear and take the gold by close to a four minute margin. There was to be a double delight as well thanks to good finishes from the rest of the team they were able to claim the team gold as well. ROWERS POWER TO MEDALS ![]() Kimberly Taylor and Jasmine Houghton after winning the women's Coxless Pairs On the water it was all about the rowing, for Achkaerin this isn't a specialist discipline but there was some success with Kimberly Taylor and Jasmine Houghton rowing their way to gold in the women's pair while in the men's coxless four the team of Alex Edwards, Ethan Barnes, Owen Santiago and Brodie Lindsay took the gold, there was also a bronze in the women's coxed eights. Combined with the three sculling medals from the previous day that gives Achkaerinese rowing a total of six medals which is above the two that were targeted at the games. FOX'S SILENCE CRITICS ![]() In the football Achkaerin's men made sure that a repeat of the drama of the World Cup final wasn't required as they dumped Nya Aland out of the competition with a comfortable three nil victory, goals from Dani Leonidas, Robert Kinnay and substitute Adam Dawson (pictured above) gave the Fox's a victory that they will be very happy with. Speaking afterwards the teams manager Dame Julia McCabe said the following: "We shouldn't have had anything to prove today, we're the only team so far to win the World Cup on home soil, we're the first team to win the tournament twice, yet because we had to come from three nil down against Nya Aland in that final means that we have to once again prove we haven't lost our killer instinct and tonight we've done that. We'll go up against Arstotzka with confidence and look to get ourselves into the gold medal match." On the women's side the Vixen's brushed aside Revana to reach their semi final where they will play Lodja. CYCLISTS SWEEP WOMEN'S TIME TRIAL ![]() (left) bronze medalist Jacqueline Armitage, (centre) gold medalist Sammy Lawson, (right) silver medalist Katy Primrose The cyclists were back in action as the women's road time trial took place on day six. The Achkaerinese trio of Sammy Lawson, Katy Primrose and Jacqueline Armitage swept the podium taking gold, silver and bronze respectively with the final winning margin of Lawson thirty six seconds. Speaking afterwards silver medalist Katy Primrose gave her reaction: "I don't know what can be said, Jacqueline did well to stay in gold medal position as long as she did and then I managed to sneak ahead of her and I was a little confident I had a chance in training I'd been getting close time wise to Sammy so with the conditions changing and maybe the odd mistake maybe I could sneak the gold out from her grasp but then she goes and obliterates me on the day by that margin, some times you just have to say too good but I'll be out to get her again." TENNIS STARS TO FACE OFF ![]() Achkaerin women's number one Melody Cartwright applauds the crowd following her quarter final victory Achkaerin are guaranteed at least a silver in the women's tennis and we're only at the semi final stage of the competition. This has become the case because the semi finals pit Achkaerin's number one Melody Cartwright against her team mate Alice Walby with the winner having the right to play for the gold medal. Melody and Alice are reportedly looking forward to the encounter and it's sure to be an exciting match between two players who know each others games very well. They've got to this point thanks to straight set quarter final victories over Ui Cenneslaig and Spartan opponents respectively. Away from the action the Chef de Mission Princess Esme Azurewind has given her assessment so far saying "We're well up on target, we came wanting to beat the medal tally from the Tytor games and after six days of competition we have forty three medals never in my wildest dreams did I expect that at this stage. We've still got strong events to come so I'm optimistic about beating our target, will we still be top of the table at the end of this? Probably not but that doesn't mean we won't try to stay there for as long as we can." Edited by Achkaerin, 15th March 2017 - 04:19 PM.

![]() ![]() BROTHERS BATTLE OUT TRIATHLON ![]() (left) Timothy Carter and (right) his older brother Adam Day seven in Detroika saw the triathlon's take place, Victoria Carson took bronze in the women's event while in the men's event it was the turn of the Carter brothers Adam and Timothy to represent their country. The two brothers hailing from the Valkyria countryside dominated the event from swim to run, picking off their competition one by one they weren't first out of the water but they stamped their authority on the bike and then as the hard running took it's toll on the field it was Adam who found a little surge to break away from his brother to take the gold medal by thirty two seconds from Timothy. With the podium completed by a Lodjan triathlete. Speaking afterwards Adam Carter said: "That was a hard race but having Timothy there is not only helpful but motivational, we'll hope to take the team title in a couple of days with the girls. We did what we wanted to do, stay close during the swim and string the field out on the bike, it meant that all we really had to worry about were a couple of other people and each other, and then I just found something towards the end and was able to give Tim the slip." STRONG DRESSAGE YIELDS EVENTING LEAD ![]() Cecelia Becker riding 'Snowflake' The Three Day Eventing also started on day seven with the Achkaerinese team putting in a strong showing to top the leader board after the dressage discipline. The team consisting of Emperor Peter Azurewind, Lady Kristina Ayanami, Charlie Smith and Cecelia Becker were able to earn a narrow advantage over Ui Cenneslaig going into tomorrow's Cross Country discipline. The standout performance from an Achkaerinese perspective was Cecelia Becker, making her games debut in Detroika finished second in the Dressage standings riding her horse Snowflake. The Equestrian team coach Judith Keane summed up the day saying "We're happy, we brought Cecelia into the team for the Dressage because we felt that was where we were weakest and I'm glad to see that we were right to have faith in her. But this will be tight all the way by the looks of it." FOX'S INTO GOLD MEDAL MATCH ![]() Achkaerin's footballers have made it to the goal medal match with a 3-1 victory over hosts Arstotzka, despite being one all at the break the Fox's took it up a gear in the second half with a brace from skipper Robert Kinnay which sunk the hosts dreams. The opposition in the Gold Medal Match is provided by Revana who edged out East Moreland in their semi final. Speaking afterwards Robert Kinnay said "We're where we want to be and we've got one game left, we'll be favorites, we know that, we're used to that tag now, so we'll go and put on a show and give Revana the respect they deserve by putting in the best performance we can." |

![]() ![]() REYNA RIDES AWAY FROM THE COMPETITION ![]() Day eight of the Mundus Games saw the return of the cycling program in the form of the mountain biking, there was no luck for Caleb Simpson in the men's event, but in the women's event Reyna Miles rode away from the competition and to the gold medal, beating her nearest challenger from Helvetica by forty seconds. Historically speaking the mountain bike discipline has not really been an Achkaerinese strong point so this medal is sure to be seen as a breakthrough moment in this sport. With the track cycling still to come there is a level of strong confidence around the Achkaerinese cycling team, with many of them tipped for medal success in the velodrome, including the Fernley Quartet and the return of Sammy Lawson. VIXEN'S INTO GOLD MEDAL MATCH ![]() Achkaerin's women's football team have secured themselves a place in the gold medal match with a two nil victory over Lodja, the goals courtesy of a header from midfielder Hermione Coleman and then a volley from striker Amy Bell (pictured above) in the first and second halves respectively emphasized a professional performance over the course of the ninety minutes. Speaking afterwards the team's coach Damien West said the following: "It's an interesting position that both Achkaerinese football teams find themselves in, the Fox's despite being the World Champions came here with question marks against them, having had to come from three down to win the world cup final had they lost something? They've had to prove their critics wrong, we Vixen's today have played Lodja and it's interesting for us because we know women's football features in the Quad Nations which until the MFA decides to hold a second world cup is the premier event internationally for our sport. Lodja are a good team on the basis of today's performance and I hope they stick with it because there is great potential for them to be a strong force in the game. Now we prepare for the final" WALBY CONJURES HISTORIC WIN ![]() Alice Walby has overcome team mate Melody Cartwright to reach the gold medal match in the women's singles tennis. The match was hard fought between two players who know each others game very well, with Cartwright taking the first set 7-6 and the Walby responding in the second by the same scoreline in her favor, the third set went beyond that point with a remarkable five minute period coming late on where at 8-8 Walby produced some of her best tennis to break the Cartwright serve and then close out the match. She will face a Satanican opponent for gold, Melody Cartwright will play for bronze against a Kaiser Adolf player. On the men's side Kevin Nikaido is also into a gold medal match where he will face an opponent from Kaiser Adolf. CROSS COUNTRY CONTINUES CHALLENGE ![]() In the Three Day Eventing the cross country discipline has taken place with strong performances from Achkaerinese riders complimenting and aiding each other. Led by the Emperor, who topped the discipline's standings, the team after two disciplines sits in gold medal position but they aren't cracking open the champagne yet as the Emperor explained: "There's still the showjumping to come and while today we've managed to eek out our lead over Ui Cenneslaig a little more, we're not far enough ahead to say that the gold medal is ours. It only takes two or three mistakes in the showjumping tomorrow and some good riding from Ui Cenneslaig to snatch this from under our noses. So we aren't celebrating just yet we've still got a job to do." The teams Chef de Mission Princess Esme Azurewind has also commented now that the games have reached the halfway point stating: "We came here to beat our record haul from last time in Tytor. At the halfway point we appear to be on target to do that, with the cycling program, athletics program and various team events still to come or conclude and with some guaranteed I do think we will manage to achieve our goal." |

![]() ![]() EVENTERS HOLD ON FOR GOLD...JUST ![]() Emperor Peter leading his horse Titan to the arena Achkaerin's riders have taken gold in the three day eventing at the Mundus Games. But it wasn't to be easy on the final day as second place, and later silver medalists, Ui Cenneslaig out jumped the Achkaerinese team making their finishing total 345.1, Achkaerin sat on 344.2 after three riders, and so it was over to Emperor Peter to settle the issue of gold and silver, knowing that a single fence down or a time penalty could see the gold slip away. The Emperor is known more for his cross country skill than showjumping but despite this he was able to do what the team needed him to do - a clear round within the time limit. Speaking afterwards he said: "That was a close fought competition, it's always difficult when you know the equation and I rattled about three of the fences so my heart was in my mouth a few times. We were happy we'd extended our lead yesterday because we always knew it was possible that Ui Cenneslaig would come out today and jump to a high standard, I'm just happy I was able to do what I needed to do to secure the gold, because the team's been great the last three days." CONTRASTING FENCING FORTUNES ![]() Gold Medalist in the women's katana, Sazame Hatake, with men's katana competitor Alaho Jonew In the final fencing event, the katana, there were contrasting fortunes for Achkaerin's competitors - Sazame Hatake did take the gold on the women's side with victory over her opponent from Meche, in a seemingly sublime performance that was reminiscent of her gold medal winning performance in the East Moreland games two years ago. However on the men's side there was something different as Alaho Jonew one of the favorites for the gold medal was forced to retire in the last sixteen roun with injury, it was later confirmed that a heavy fall he took in the match had caused damage to his shoulder. |

![]() ![]() FERNLEY QUARTET LEADS THE WAY ![]() Day Ten of the Mundus Games and the return of the cycling program. Though only the team pursuits and team sprints were contested the Achkaerinese team managed to pick up two gold medals courtesy of the Fernley sisters forming what they call the 'Fernley Quartet' Caitlin, Ruth, Lucy and Niamh Fernley took gold in the women's team pursuit ahead of Vaguzia and only a matter of two hours later Lucy and Niamh were back out on the track taking another gold this time in the team sprint as they narrowly edged out their Tytorian opposition. On the men's side of things the pursuit team of Tony Colt, Percy Herbert, Kevin Gibbs and Lee Barry won silver. With the individual events to come on day eleven and the omnium's on day twelve there's plenty of optimism around the riders that they aren't done with the medals yet. MICHELSEN MARATHON MAGIC ![]() Also in action on day ten was marathon runner Lissie Michelsen, the race was very much a bunch race with many ebbs and flows throughout, Lissie hit the front early on and stayed in contention as others fell by the wayside until striking out on her own at the halfway mark, she was able to get away and stay away from the pack, crossing the line to take gold three minutes ahead of the silver medalist. It marks an achievement for Lissie who has missed most major competitions over the last two years with various injuries and was in fact a doubt for these games until running under the set qualification time at the national trials. DOUBLE FOOTBALL DELIGHT ![]() Achkaerin's women footballers celebrate their gold medal The big draw for Achkaerinese fans on day ten though was the football, it was medal day and with both Achkaerinese teams guaranteed silver some may have thought the pressure was to an extent off. Yeah right. Both the Fox's and Vixen's are ranked number one in the world, both were gold medal favorites and both were expected to win. The Vixen's turned in a professional and solid performance to beat Helghast 3-0 with goals coming from a Laura Pullman free kick, a penalty from captain Ruth Kinnay and then a late run and slotted finish from Amy Bell. As for the men well they brushed aside Revana 6-0 with a hat trick from Dani Leonidas being the centre piece the other goals coming from Nick Mizuki, Harrison Shibuki and Cesc Santiago. Players in both squads will now look to the remainder of the domestic season and hope to continue their form. |

![]() ![]() FERNLEY'S TAKE FOUR MORE ![]() Niamh Fernley celebrating her individual sprint victory With the Mundus Games ticking on into the last few days of competition the medals for Achkaerin have continued. Most notably in the velodrome where the Fernley sisters took four gold medals and a bronze between them. In the women's individual sprint the youngest of the four Niamh Fernley emerged with the gold medal following a two race victory over her Vaguzian opponent, she'd also been pitted against her older sister Lucy in the semi final in which they fought out a three race encounter with Niamh coming from a race down to prevail, Lucy went on to take the sprint bronze. It wasn't all bad news for Lucy though as she took the gold in the women's Keirin, Caitlin Fernley took gold in the individual pursuit and Ruth Fernley the gold in the women's elimination race. Away from those four the women's Omnium brought Sammy Lawson her third gold of the games. There were other medals on the men's side with Percy Herbert getting the bronze in the men's individual pursuit while rounding out the cycling medals was Annalise Hines in the women's points race with her own bronze. VIXEN'S IN SEMI'S ![]() In the rugby seven's it has been a bit of a fairy tale story for the Vixen's, the female team from Achkaerin, they've managed to reach the semi finals with a 24-15 victory over Lodja. The team which is coached by Lily Welsh is in her own words "In dream land. We don't get the same game time as the men back home because we have a professional men's league and an evolving semi professional women's game, fewer teams means fewer games and less experience so we have to make up for that in our own way and hopefully something like a good run here can make Achkaerin Sport sit up and pay attention." Quite how the Sports Ministry will view this pot shot from a coach is unclear but given the handshake Ms Welsh received from the Emperor, a spectator in the stands, it is doubtful things will get too heated. WARNER KICKS HER WAY TO GOLD ![]() Arya Warner took gold in the 57kg taekwondo category with a dominant performance and victory, the youngster known as 'lightning' in her gym back home in Artaxia was in fine form as she delivered a three head kicks and one spinning head kick to rack up her eleven point total. Speaking afterwards she said "It's been a bit of an anxious wait you know, watching everyone else get their medals across all the different sports and seeing the momentum being generated by that makes you want to do well and I'm happy that I managed to get the medal I wanted." THOMPSON TRIUMPHANT ![]() Katie Thompson won gold in the women's pole vault, it was a hard fought contest with very little separating the field but a second time clearance at four metres forty two centimetre's was enough in the end to give her the gold, it also capped a good day in the field for Achkaerin's athletes where Drew Harding took bronze in the men's shotput, Noel Buchanan won bronze in the men's long jump and Kellen Shaw won the gold in the men's triple jump. There's optimism for the coming days of track action as well as summed up by Thompson who said "At a meet like this momentum is key across the disciplines if you're going to put in a medal push, Noel made a great jump and that seemed to gee Kellen up and that in turn inspired me, we just have to hope that the buzz we're creating continues into the remaining days and we can beat the medal target that was set." NIKAIDO AND RAVERS BATTLE THROUGH ![]() Kevin Nikaido and Kimberley Ravers battled back from a set down against their Kaiser Adolfian opponents to take the tennis mixed doubles gold medal. The pair lost the first set 4-6 with an early break of serve costing them there but they endured a tight fought second set taking it on a tie break 7-6 before winning the decider 7-5. It's the first of two possible golds for Nikaido who will try to add the singles title to this one, afterwards the pair said that they were "Ecstatic, we've had a lot of fun in this tournament and we enjoy the time we have playing together and to test ourselves against the best from around the world." The Chef de Mission Princess Esme Azurewind has commented on Achkaerin's position with just a few days of competition left saying "We came here to beat last years total and we're on track to do that. To be top of the medal table at this point is something unexpected, we knew we had one of the strongest cycling teams so we expected our success there but there is no way anyone thought we'd do this well, we've got some medals guaranteed thanks to gold medal matches and we've got a reasonably strong athletics team, it isn't the strongest but we've got medal potential. We'll just get our eyes on the prize, our final charge starts tomorrow." |

![]() ![]() GOVERNMENT STEPS UP MERCIA SANCTIONS ![]() Minister for trade Viola Summers during her interview earlier today Following a statement from the Secretary General of the CTO, Tim Carpenter the Achkaerinese Government has publicly disclosed information concerning pre-existing sanctions against Mercia. In an interview regarding potential strengthening of economic ties and other links with near neighbors the Minister for Trade Viola Summers stated: "The Achkaerinese government completely agrees with the points made by Mr Carpenter, as such we now publicly make known that we shall be stepping up our pre-existing sanctions against Mercia to incorporate those instructed by the CTO resolution. The government once more renews it's call for Rupert to satisfy the CTO resolution and hold the second election. The Government will also meet tomorrow with Lady Kayleigh Rosette to discuss how to apply sufficient pressure, but this is going to take a collective effort and the sooner the CTO steps up the better. We do not want another conflict but that doesn't mean we forget our responsibilities and our duties." ![]() TRIUMPHANT TUESDAY AT GAMES ![]() With the athletics track action starting it was a good day for Achkaerin's runners as they raced to several medals, Nicolette Young (pictured above) was the big draw for Achkaerinese fans as she ran her way to gold in the 1500 metres, the young Leonaise Harrier who's known for her hard work and off track charity activities ran a strong race, judging her tactics and competition well. Elsewhere on the track Emily Cartwright took the gold in the women's 200 metres and in the blue ribbon event the men's 100 metres Scott Morgan outran all others to take the gold. With other big names set to compete tomorrow there's every chance of further medal success. WALBY WONDERLAND ![]() Alice Walby claimed the women's singles tennis gold with a gutsy, hard fought three set victory over her Satanican opponent, after losing the first set she fought back to win the second set on a tiebreak and then the decider 9-7. Following her victory she said "I can't believe this, I wanted to win the gold but I never thought I'd get to the medal match much less win it. And when I took a slight knock towards the end of the first set I thought my chance was gone and I'm the kind of player who hates having to call the trainer. It wasn't easy in the second set I just had to try and shake the knock off and I managed to for the most part, the decider was just about hanging in there and holding my serve until I got a chance to break. I'm just thankful for the support I've had out here and I hope we can do it all again next year." Achkaerin now sit seventeen medals short of their pre-games target and many now tip them to beat that target. |

![]() ![]() TEAM FOX CLOSES IN ON MEDAL TARGET ![]() Britney Hammond (left) pips team mate Terri Lloyd (right) to the women's 3000m steeplechase gold With three days of competition left at the Mundus Games Achkaerin sits at the top of the medal table ten medals shy of last years record haul and eleven short of their pre game target. Day fourteen saw the continuation of the track action in the athletics as the endurance events took centre stage. There were medals for Kayleigh Carson in the women's 10,000 metres where she took bronze but it was the steeplechase where Achkaerin tasted victory courtesy of Britney Hammond, having already won the gold medal in the women's cross country earlier in the games Britney managed to pip her team mate Terri Lloyd by a mere fraction of a second on the line to win the gold at the end of what had been a blistering race between the pair especially in the latter stages. Speaking afterwards Britney said "I've had a fantastic games, to win one gold is great but to win three that's something special and I'll never forget it. The support the crowd have given everyone is unbelievable and one of the best meets I've ever been at." MORGAN MAKES HISTORY ![]() One of the big eyebrow raisers when the schedule for these games was announced was the inclusion of a surfing program. Three events all freestyle - a men's individual, a women's individual and a team event for teams of three people. Sort of like snowboarding but on water. Emilia Morgan, a cadet in the Imperial Navy, won the women's individual event the team event also yielded a bronze medal for the Achkaerin team. VIXEN'S ROUT HAWKS FOR RIGHT TO CHALLENGE FOR GOLD ![]() Achkaerin's women's rugby seven's team have reached the gold medal match of their competition. They did so by defeating Vaguzia by twenty four points to zero. It's seen as a major upset considering how rugby is viewed in Vaguzia contrasted against the status of women's rugby in Achkaerin a point made by the women's coach Lily Welsh- "The one advantage in seven's is that you only play for seven minute halves so it's possible to keep a high energy defence going for enough of the game when it matters. We're just a bunch of semi pro's going up against a team of women who in the fifteen a side version would thrash us eventually because fitness levels would come into play. But in a short game the differences are greatly reduced, today we've done something unexpected and we're guaranteed a silver now so we'll go and throw everything we've got at East Moreland but we're under no illusions as to how hard that match will be." |

![]() ![]() NIKAIDO TAKES HEPTATHLON GOLD WITH HELP FROM HER FRIEND ![]() Day Fifteen at the Mundus Games and the last day of track action brought success for Achkaerin, there was a gold in the women's 4x400m relay but the headline story was in the heptathlon where Achkaerin's Hannah Nikaido defended her title but only just, she trailed going into the final event the eight hundred metres meaning that the calculator's were out as she now had to win the eight hundred heat by a specific margin from her Shiryokan rival. However she wasn't alone in the heat also lining up alongside her was Crown Princess Serenity making her competitive heptathlon debut, and it was the presence of the Crown Princess that was to prove most useful to Nikaido as out of the blocks the Crown Princess led the way running hard taking Nikaido with her, and there she stayed until just over two hundred metres from the finish where the Crown Princess moved aside to allow her team mate through for the victory while the Crown Princess would pick up the bronze, afterwards Hannah talked to us saying: "I'm going to have to have words with Prince Simon next time we're flying about his sister's antics...no I'm joking. All she said to me as we were warming up on the track was 'stay behind me' I had no idea she was going to do that, but that'll teach me to remember my javelin form in future. But one thing's for sure next year will be interesting." Edited by Achkaerin, 9th April 2017 - 03:46 PM.

![]() ![]() AMY RAVENSWOOD TO STUDY IN EAST MORELAND ![]() Amy Ravenswood, the Sovereign Duchess of Veduro, is to attend university in East Moreland it has been announced. The adopted daughter of Count Emerson Ravenswood, a graduate of Saika High School, had not been expected to enroll for university studies as the matters of being Veduro's head of state would take precedence but her work with the Veduran government appears to have paid off meaning she's able to further her own education. It's understood that she will attend the Portworth Institute of Sport to study Sports Science and Psychology, Ms Ravenswood is known to have an interest in sports management with many tipping her for a future role in the industry. When asked why she'd chosen an East Moreland institute she said "I'm not about to shirk my responsibilities to Veduro so when I was considering where to study proximity to Veduro was important, Portworth's just a hop, skip and jump across the Illumic. If anything were to happen in Veduro, I'd be close enough to do what is expected." Ms Ravenswood declined to comment on the relationship between her adopted father and the Empress of Rokkenjima. ![]() GOVERNMENT CONDEMNS KAITAINE MISSILE TEST ![]() The Achkaerinese government has condemned a missile test carried out by Kaitaine. The test which saw missiles land in the Great Northern Ocean some four hundred kilometres from the western coast of Alba Karinya has already been condemned by both Rokkenjima and Aeternum. Today Consul Michael Williams addressed it as "Not the sort of thing the world needs. It's provocative and dangerous. The Government of Achkaerin supports the position of our allies and we will see discussion of a response to this occur within LISA, we also do not rule out a response at the CTO. Make no mistake about it there will be a response in a way of our choosing and at a time of our choosing." |

While there is much speculation around the meeting with the Priestess there is no such speculation around the meeting with Admiral Rankin as it was later confirmed what the subject was in a statement the Emperor stated "Following developments at the Commonwealth Treaty Organisation I met with Admiral Rankin to discuss the state of readiness to bring to trial those charged over the Andean Genocide. I can confirm that following that meeting I contacted Achkaerin's representative at the Convention Advisory Committee of the Uppsala Convention and asked her to advise the Convention Court to draw the Judges for the trials concerning the Andean Genocide." ![]() ![]() CONSUL TALKS HELVETICA ATTACK, NYA ALAND AID AND MISSILE TESTS ![]() Consul Michael Williams has given the official Achkaerinese response to the attack in Helvetica. In a televised interview the Consul said: "However you look at it this is a tragedy, one thousand lives taken away and heaven only knows how many others injured, this is not acceptable and the people responsible for it picked a very bad time to stick their heads above the parapet, we are in the run up to trying those responsible for the Andean Genocide and those who enabled it. This is something several people in the international community didn't think would happen because of who was involved, but others persevered and thanks in no small part to the concerted will of the Commonwealth Treaty Organisation we have those against whom charges were filed in custody and the pre trial process is now underway. So to the people responsible for what has happened in Helvetica I'll say this- it doesn't matter who you are or where you run to, it doesn't matter how clever you think you are, we will find you, we will get you and you will be held accountable for everything you have done." Later on in the interview the Consul also spoke about Nya Aland saying: "As we made clear when the winter in Uppsala began, we regretted not being able to do what we should have been able to do but in the same way that East Moreland was supporting Nya Aland foreign aid wise Achkaerin was doing the same in respect of Toshikawa, with Toshikawa now being a fallen state despite our best efforts we have a resolute determination not to see that happen again. The situation in Uppsala is without question the most significant humanitarian disaster since Safraen fell, now it's incumbent on the international community to stop talking the talk and instead put their money where their mouth is and walk the walk. This is something Achkaerin will be doing, we have on site aid personnel and assets including the INS Nebula, one of our hospital ships, Naval Command has also authorized the deployment of another such vessel - the INS Valkyrie out of Chrysalis base to ensure that we do not underestimate the severity of this crisis. The Government has also determined with the approval of the Emperor that the INS Nebula shall remain in the area for the long haul, this is a crisis that extends beyond the present situation and we are determined to see it through. Finally the Consul was asked about the Protoan missile test to which he said: "Do we condemn a nation for wanting to defend itself? No. This applies to both Protoa and Kaitaine, the nature and capabilities of long range missiles and ICBM's mean that they are as much a sword as a shield. The concern is that when such tests have been carried out in the manner that they've been carried out recently that alarm bells are rung. Now is disarmament practical? To a point yes but there is a limit to this, Achkaerin already operates at its minimum deterrent level, we aren't going to disarm any further because we've been disarming old Heaven Spear missiles for years, the fall of the USR heralded the opportunity to take these steps. So what will Achkaerin do? We presently have the defence committee of the Senate looking at establishing protocols for the Achkaerinese armed forces in respect of our own missile tests, if successful such a step should avoid unnecessary tension over an issue which is of course concerning. For the moment though I would strongly recommend that any nation planning tests of this nature give advance notice and details to the international community, because right now this is a dangerous path we're treading and if we continue to do so it will not be long before someone somewhere does something they'll regret." ![]() ARTAXIA UNIVERSITY STUDENTS MAKE PROGRESS WITH "WONDER MATERIAL" ![]() A group of post graduate research students from the University of Artaxia have isolated and characterized the long theorized material known as Graphene. The material originally observed in the 1960's has many unusual properties - It is about 200 times stronger than the strongest steel. It efficiently conducts heat and electricity and is nearly transparent. Graphene shows a large and nonlinear diamagnetism, greater than graphite and can be levitated by neodymium magnets. In technical terms the material is a two-dimensional, atomic-scale, hexagonal lattice in which one atom forms each vertex. It is the basic structural element of other allotropes, including graphite, charcoal, carbon nanotubes and fullerenes. It can be considered as an indefinitely large aromatic molecule, the ultimate case of the family of flat polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. The project leader into the study of the material Phoebe Scott (pictured above), a graduate of Riviere Corporation's Technology College and the University of Artaxia where she is presently studying for a doctorate gave the following statement when asked about how she felt about this significant moment: "We've been working on this for years, I was lucky that I was able to join the team when I was an undergraduate and when I was asked to take over the team last year I was surprised. Today we have achieved something significant, it's a major step for us to be able to have a detailed study of this 'wonder material' now we can turn some of our attention to the potential applications of it. I'd like to take the chance to pay tribute to Professor Theodore Willis, the original project leader who was the major driving force behind this project and if he were alive today we'd be off down the pub to celebrate the achievement as it is myself and the rest of the team will be toasting him later today." There are also unconfirmed rumors that this discovery has made the team a shoe in for a Riviere Prize. Riviere Corporation have not commented on that but have sent their congratulations to Ms Scott and her team. |

![]() RIVIERE CORPORATION UNVEILS KRYPTONITE CLASS ![]() By: Penelope Noble, Defence CorrespondentRiviere Corporation and the Imperial Navy have unveiled the newest ship class for the Achkaerinese Navy. The Kryptonite Class (pictured above). Classified as a frigate, the ship was explained by Fleet Admiral David Jackson as follows: "Mundus is rapidly becoming a place where military forces and humanitarian forces are becoming one and the same with increasing frequency. Added to which the unpredictable nature of the scenario's means that forces have to be prepared to respond in a multitude of ways and this is what the Kryptonite Class is. The design is a bulkier variation on the trimaran design of the Valiant class, with much of the deck given over to a flight deck that will be capable of carrying both standard aircraft but also be a serviceable runway for our drones. It will still have a reasonable amount of teeth, with other features including what we're calling a 'medical emergency care unit' or to put it another way a scaled down emergency care ward of a Nebula class. This is meant to be a specified multi purpose vessel and that's what she will be." The Kryptonite class is expected to undergo sea trials in the coming weeks with a scheduled military training exercise at Princess Astrid Base being deemed the 'acid test' as it will see how the ship works in concert with the rest of the navy. In related news at the end of the press conference Nicola Johannson of Riviere Corporation was asked what the response to the Kaitaine Zircon missile development was, a question Ms Johannson answered saying "It's a fantastic piece of engineering and design." ![]() ![]() HIT AND RUN SHOCKS NATIONAL PARK RESIDENTS ![]() The villages of the Foxton National Park were awoken in the early hours of the morning by something they're not accustomed to- police sirens. In the very early hours of the morning police officers responded to a hit and run incident in the village of Prominence, an incident they are now treating as a murder investigation. The victim has been identified as Francesca Owens and her family has been informed. The Police have released details of a red car and a person of interest they would like to speak to at this time. Anyone with any pertinent information is requested to get in contact with the police immediately. ![]() NO FLY ZONE GOES UP AS PHUEBRA PEACEKEEPING EFFORT BEGINS ![]() Achkaerinese forces in cooperation with their Vaguzian counterparts have initiated peacekeeping operations in Phuebra with the aim of bringing an end to the civil conflict within that nation. The conflict which has descended from a civil war into more complex factional fighting in recent weeks is proving to be the first major test of LISA's commitment to global security, Major General Rhyth Icerider who is spearheading the operation has stated: "Before any action can be taken it's of course important for us to be aware of how much strain we will be placing ourselves under and with operations in Uppsala, the Vaguzian part of the Alps as well as routine matters there was little doubt that this operation would have represented a major commitment of military force and it still does, but with the help of our Vaguzian allies we're not committing as many forces as what we would have initially been forced to. We do not believe this will be an easy job, but with the establishment of the no fly zone last night control of the skies will give us help. We have several priorities and objectives some are military some are humanitarian. We have a long road ahead but we'll get there." |

![]() ![]() JAG SETS GENOCIDE COURT DATE ![]() Admiral William Rankin, the Achkaerinese Judge Advocate General, has set the date for the Andean Genocide Trials. The case which sees nine defendants comprising four Rokkenjiman's, one Dartfordian and four Toshikawan's is potentially the greatest test of the Uppsala Convention to date, with many commentators noting the tone of the relevant debates in the CTO General Assembly as "Difficult". Admiral Rankin has issued a statement regarding the trials:
There will be regular updates throughout the trial process. ![]() NATIONAL SECURITY ADVISOR VISITS CAMP MAELSTROM ![]() Achkaerin's National Security Advisor, Mark Sharpe has visited Camp Maelstrom in Vaguzia. The Camp which sits at the foot of the Alps on the Vaguzian side of the border with East Moreland has been the staging point for joint Achkaerinese-Vaguzian anti Borlander operations since the abduction of Queen Mary of Mercia. During the visit Mr Sharpe met with Lt Colonel Lynne Kruger, the senior Achkaerinese officer on base and spent some time socializing with the troops. When asked what he thought of the latest Borland action in Stoneton Mr Sharpe said "Our position on the Borlander question is clear, we do not negotiate with terrorists we do not give in to terrorism. Stoneton is legally sovereign East Moreland territory and since it is out of the question that East Moreland will ever say otherwise it will remain so. The Achkaerinese government remains confident in East Moreland's capability to handle this matter but as always we have offered our support should they want it." In other international news the Foreign Ministry has confirmed that security at the Achkaerinese embassy in Lakhzovia is being tightened and citizens are advised not to travel to the country at this time. ![]() CÀIDH URGES CAUTION OVER JENKA ![]() The Secretary General of the Cross Straits Union, Lìosa Càidh, today faced questions from the leaders of those parties contesting next weeks Cross Straits Parliamentary elections, the new initiative popular among many supporters of the Union who see it as an increase in transparency was today dominated not by the expected electoral quizzing but by questions around the City of Jenka, a subject which has come to the fore in recent days. When asked about it Ms Càidh stated:
![]() AVALON PREPARES TO WELCOME THE WORLD ![]() Archive picture of the event from 2009 in Freshwater The Leonidas Business Expo has been in the past a great moment in the Achkaerinese calendar, but following the assassination of Marqueeza Danielle Leonidas eight years ago it stopped. Now it's back, in a surprise statement earlier this morning Marqueeza Olivia Leonidas announced that the event was making a return and for the first time would be held in the city of Avalon. Rumors have already started circling about what products will be put on show and what projects may be announced though some have been taken with a pinch of salt. However there is a credible rumor coming out of Riviere Corporation that one of the small scale start up business's they help fund 'Futurist Industries' is bringing something big. When asked for comment Business Minister Percy Higgins stated: "The Leonidas Business Expo's return is something to be proud of, it's been missed in Achkaerinese business circles and for Lady Leonidas to put it on once more is only going to help sell the event on the global stage. I'll be there as will I hope many people from across both Achkaerin and Mundus." ![]() TOP CHEF OPENS INTERNATIONAL CULINARY SCHOOL ![]() Arthur Carson, the Royal Chef until five years ago, has opened an international culinary school in Valkyria. The school which for the purposes of the Achkaerinese education system is being rated on the same level as a university counts among it's teaching staff some of the finest chefs, sommeliers, wait staff and owners from across the country and in some cases abroad. Mr Carson is quite excited at the prospect saying "This is a great opportunity for anyone who aspires to work in this industry to come and learn the trade, we have connections with many fine restaurant's where our students can experience the workplace environment, we have plenty of kitchens and even a large restaurant on campus where they can hone their skills. All the staff are still active in the industry as well." ![]() ALEXA CAUSES RECORD SURPRISE ![]() Cosmos Gaming's latest game Alexa has surprised everyone including it's developers by smashing the sales record for an RPG in Achkaerin. The game which was released last year is a science fiction RPG with the following description: Welcome to the year 4507 and the planet Neox- a world under the oppressive rule of the Tyrant Silus Grimaud. The people have suffered greatly and some are starting to fight back but they have one problem there are agents of the Obelisk Foundation, Grimaud's most trusted operatives, everywhere. Alexa is one such operative she's the best whether it's interrogation, assassination or infiltration she excels at them all and why? Because she has a past that even she doesn't know, a past that will bring hope to those that stand against Grimaud- Alexa was grown from genetic material in a science lab to be perfect. As threats to Grimaud stack up Alexa is unleashed to defend the Tyrant and as she becomes more involved and more inquisitive about her past and her potential she will discover that not all heroes are born some are grown. Cosmos Gaming's President Amelia Raven has reacted to the news saying: "This is something we never thought possible, we're such a small company, just a group of friends from university really, we don't have anywhere near the funds or space that our competitors do so to get something like this is unbelievable. We're already hard at work on the next installment in the Alexa Series and we have two other games at varying stages of development. So you'll see more from us and I hope people like what else we come up with as much as they like this one." ![]() ![]() FORMER MARQUIS OF DOVAH FOUND DEAD ![]() Lord Jacob Gliss, the former Marquis of Dovah, has been found dead at his home according to Police. Lord Gliss who was eighty eight, was during his lifetime a respected member of both the Royal Court but also in his younger days the Senate as he is the only noble to ever hold the position of Consul, a post he held during the Senate's crisis in the nineteen eighties during which he also advocated for the Achkaerinese involvement in the Toshikawan Civil War in order to protect Gowu. He's been described by Lady Kristina Ayanami as a "Gentleman who did much to bring Achkaerin to where it presently is. A lot of people owe so much to him." The Gliss family have asked for privacy and the funeral is expected to take place next week. ![]() ACHKAERIN SPACE AGENCY UNVEILS PROJECT SCIENCE STAR ![]() The Achkaerin Space Agency has today unveiled their much rumored Project Science Star. The project which will encompass several specific missions is intended to in the word's of Director of Flight Operations Nicola Fernley "Give a greater picture and understanding of our universe." Along with the unveiling of Science Star the ASA also outlined the first mission of the Project named "Virgil" which is a mission centered around the study of the asteroid Keaclite that orbits in the belt between Nergal and Marduk. Why? Well the best understanding of the asteroid so far is that it appears to be the exposed nickel-iron core of an early planet, one of the building blocks of our solar system. Director Fernley explained it as follows: "One of the greatest mysteries of our world is what lies at the core of our planets, now our best scientists theorize metallic cores but obviously we can't go there because the depth underneath our feet coupled with the temperature is too much. Keaclite presents a unique opportunity for us to be able to study something like this. We haven't yet determined the full extent of the mission yet but we have a series of smaller scale operations lined up all within this project." ![]() VALOR VICTORIOUS IN KAITAINE AS CHAMPIONS LEAGUE KICKS OFF ![]() The 2017 Mundus Champions League is underway and the Achkaerinese teams have had a strong start to their campaigns. The charge was led by Valor Athletic who faced what many regarded as a potentially tough trip to Kaitaine, they went on to win the match by four goals to nil with a brace apiece from striker Harry Ichinose and midfielder Cesc Santiago, despite claims to the contrary in the Kaitaine press something addressed by the teams manager Mitchell Parker who said "The referee's scorecard, game video, MFA observer's and most importantly our fans all know we won the game four nil. We controlled the game and we took our chances and to be honest I'm glad that we've got that game out of the way. As for the rest of the Kaitaine press has reported, anything regarding anything our players have said is unconfirmed rumor and the starting eleven have assured me no such comment was made. Regarding what happened afterwards, we don't know who stirred up trouble and frankly we don't care we've lodged a complaint with the MFA and we hope they'll take action on this matter." In the other games A.F.C Gowu made their Champions League bow with a two all draw against Carver SeaVac Drillers, Valtheim United swept aside Vanderbilt Breakers five to one with a hat trick from Andrew Sanders being the highlight, meanwhile Leonaise F.C got the defence of their title underway with a three one victory away at A.S Lentini. |

![]() ![]() ACHKAERINESE RAID DESTROYS AL-SEKAR ![]() A joint Achkaerinese Army and Air Force raid has resulted in the death of Muhktaar al-Shareef. Mr al-Shareef was the leader of the Al-Sekar terrorist group behind the Vertfort-Vanderkloof Congress attack not that long ago. It is understood that the raid, recorded by the soldiers who carried it out, resulted in the deaths of many of the terrorist groups members and the capture of several others. In a short statement Major General Rhyth Icerider said "At approximately 06:00 hours Valtheim Meridian Time, Achkaerinese Special Forces in concert with their Air Force comrades executed an operation targeted at the Al-Sekar terrorist group and their leader Muhktaar al-Shareef. We had hoped to take Muhktaar al-Shareef alive so he could answer for what he did. Sadly that did not happen, though our troops did everything they could under the circumstances Mr al-Shareef was killed in the assault. There were seven Achkaerinese personnel wounded in the attack but by the grace of the Gods there were no fatalities." |

![]() ![]() FORMULA MUNDUS PREVIEW ![]() RCR drivers (left) Z Kennedy and (right) world champion Megan Harrison, chat during practice for this weekends season opener Formula Mundus makes its comeback this weekend with the season opener in Vafleon, a race that was won last year by Megan Harrison as she started out on a journey that would see her lift the championship crown at the end of the season. This year there are more more cars on the grid and plenty of strong competitors, both Riviere Corporation racing drivers are expected to feature in the mix towards the business end of the season but there are plenty of potential challengers most notably Sam Halliday of Rytol-EMAC racing who was edged out by Harrison last season, in a championship title race that took on elements beyond the sport itself due to the relationship between Halliday and Queen Matilda of East Moreland, shall look to feature strongly and with EMAC in the mix there are expectant rumors around the paddock about that team. The calendar contains not a surprise but an expected change as Heyra does not feature on it this season, something taken as a relief by much of the paddock following reports of events surrounding last seasons Heyran Grand Prix that almost saw, if reports are to be believed, the championship practically settled off the track. Speaking between practice sessions for the season opener Megan Harrison said "Winning the title last year was an adventure, to defend it this year would be an even bigger adventure, but like every champion across every sport I know the scale of the challenge and I look forward to seeing how far I can go this year. I know me and Z have got each other's backs but yeah Sam ran me close last year and if they're competitive from the start this weekend then it could be his year but there are lot of new faces in the mix this year so it's wide open." |

![]() ![]() SENATE VOTES AGAINST SANCTIONS ![]() Deputy National Security Advisor Saki Ryoko during her speech to the Senate Following a lengthy day of debate the Imperial Senate has voted by a tally of four hundred and sixty to thirty nine not to support the Rokkenjiman sanctions against Kaitaine. The debate was urgently tabled by the government with the agreement of opposition parties following the rapid developments in the situation brought about by Rokkenjiman actions and subsequent Dartfordian support. There were many impassioned speeches but it is the speech of the Deputy National Security Advisor Saki Ryoko that is being hailed by commentators as the most influential towards the end of the debate, it was her maiden speech in the chamber, where she stated the following:
EMPEROR SUPPORTS SENATE - REFUSES VETO ![]() Royal Press Secretary Hannah Cartwright Following the vote in the Senate, attention turned to the Marble Palace to see what the Emperor would do in regards to the Senate decision. There had been fears that the Emperor would utilize his Royal Veto power and overrule the Senate's decision but these were to prove unfounded as explained by the Royal Press Secretary Hannah Cartwright
![]() KING OF VAGUZIA TO GIVE STEELE LECTURE ![]() King Leonard of Vaguzia has been invited by the University of Artaxia to give the annual Steele Lecture, the lecture named after alumni and now university lecturer Doctor Donna Steele, the Achkaerinese representative to the CETO and inaugural chair of that organisation, is a keynote speech during the university year where a special guest is invited to inspire the students of the university, previous speakers have included the Emperor, Catriona Rowan CEO of Riviere Corporation, General Kakashi Fuji, last year the lecture was offered to the Youth Minister of East Moreland Amelia Merriman. So it is considered something of an honor and the students are looking forward to the occasion. Edited by Achkaerin, 28th June 2017 - 01:11 PM.

![]() ![]() PRINCESS ASTRID BASE INITIATES EMERGENCY PROCEDURES ![]() Princess Astrid Base Princess Astrid Base has initiated emergency procedures. The announcement comes in response to a warning concerning what's been termed the Morris Ice Shelf. The base has reportedly been mostly evacuated with only a skeleton crew remaining in place. It is expected that a major tsunami will strike the island housing the base and that sea levels in the Achkaerinese area will temporarily rise by five metres. Unfortunately this also coincides with the start of the Achkaerinese storm season with the annual Nywaln storm, the signal that the season has begun, expected at roughly the same time as the tsunami. This has led to additional measures being taken, including the restriction of travel to Avalon, a normal occurrence with the Nywaln approaching. Jared Cohen the Chief Executive of Avalon has stated "Avalon was built to not only withstand but defeat the storms. I guess we're about to find out how much of a shield it is against a tsunami." ![]() CROWN PRINCESS SHOCKS NATION WITH LONG LOST DAUGHTER ![]() (left) Crown Princess Serenity and (right) her daughter Lisa Crown Princess Serenity has surprised and shocked the nation with the revelation that she has not one but two daughters, in addition to the eighteen month old Princess Astrid the Crown Princess is also the mother to a six year old daughter called Lisa, after whom the League of International Security and Aid (L.I.S.A) is apparently named. In an exclusive interview the Crown Princess explained how during the time period her brother was listed as missing in action she "Went off the rails in a big way." and was as a result the victim of a rape , when Lisa was born the newborn baby was apparently taken away by the Emperor's mother and sent to Phuebra where she's been raised ever since until recent events there conspired to place Lisa on an Achkaerinese ship operating as part of peacekeeping efforts in the country. Princess Lisa is reportedly settling in and getting to know the family. Though there was no comment made about what this does if anything to the line of succession. The public are likely to get their first opportunity to meet the new Princess at the upcoming Edelweiss Music Festival. In other Royal news Emperor Peter has written an open letter regarding recent activities by the Commonwealth of the Iwi, in the letter the Emperor made clear his support for the pursuit of justice being undertaken but did make clear his objection to what sources inside the Marble Palace are calling a "Clear and blatant violation of another nations sovereignty." it is not yet clear how the situation will unfold but Royal Press Secretary Hannah Cartwright did explain the motivation of the Emperor saying; "The Emperor is a keen champion of international law seeing it as the main means of ensuring a stable community. If this is let slide then the precedent set is dangerous and the door opened to more gross violations by other countries. This is not something that can be allowed to happen." The Emperor has also offered Achkaerinese help in mediating the dispute should it be necessary. ![]() ANDEAN GENOCIDE TRIAL DAY ONE ![]() the lead counsel for both sides (left) Lt Nell Foster for the prosecution and (right) Commander Andrew Conway for the defence The first day of the Andean Genocide Trials has come to a close. The day was expected to be fairly straightforward and so it proved with eight not guilty pleas and one guilty plea being entered, the guilty plea coming from the Emperor Emerita of Rokkenjima Alexander Anselmo. The day comprised firstly an opening statement from Lt Foster, the lead prosecution counsel, and then the testimony of a Nueva Ardian Captain followed by the testimony of Lt Commander Terri Dyer, an Achkaerinese Naval officer presently attempting to identify all the genocide victims as part of a specialized task force in Nueva Ardia. The defence could not really do anything to challenge the testimony they could only help the prosecution establish the facts of the genocide as explained by the lead defence counsel Commander Andrew Conway "This was always going to happen, in order to make their case the prosecution must first establish that the genocide happened, the defence's priority at this stage is to make sure that the prosecution does not make unfounded implications. For us this trial does not start until tomorrow when the expert evidence continues with the analysis of communication transcripts." When asked for comment Lt Foster said: "This was always going to be challenging, the evidence is sound and the case is strong.". Legal analysts however have pointed out that the evidence against some defendants will be weaker than it will be against others. Which does lead to another question - why has Alexander Anselmo pleaded guilty? We'll undoubtedly find out later on in the trial. The trial continues tomorrow with further expert evidence. ![]() CHAMPIONS LEAGUE GROUPS DRAW TO A CLOSE, ALL ACHKAERINESE TEAMS ADVANCE ![]() The group stages of the Champions League drew to a climax tonight with all four Achkaerinese teams progressing. Defending champions Leonaise F.C won their group, Valtheim United and Valor Athletic also progressed as group winners with A.F.C Gowu progressing as group runners up. The intriguing progression however comes in the shape of the Kaitaine Defence Force team, something few expected to happen. The last sixteen draw pits Valor Athletic against Morelander opposition in the form of Roberton A.F.C, Valtheim United also make the trip to Alba Karinya to play Sportiva Asiozona Saburi of Vaguzia, Leonaise F.C will host Halycon Evergrande and there's another team heading to Vaguzia as A.F.C Gowu play Fotebol Asiozona Flumon 1889. We asked for the thoughts of Dame Julia McCabe, the Achkaerin national team manager, she said: "There are no easy games at this level, especially not from here on in. We now have the sixteen form teams and to be honest anything can happen. That's what makes the Champions League so exciting because on their day any team can beat anyone." HARRISON HOLDS FORMULA MUNDUS LEAD WITH EAST MORELAND WIN ![]() Two races into the new Formula Mundus season and the championship table has a familiarity about it as Megan Harrison of Riviere Corporation Racing sits at the top of the standings, however the team is dismissing any suggestion that they can run away with the title as explained by Harrison herself "We know we're reasonably strong early on in the season and at our strongest at the back end of the season, our problem last year which we have to try and overcome this season is in the middle of the season. Fortunately last year I had a large points cushion when we hit that dip so despite all of Sa's work in catching me he wasn't able to pull away from me in the standings. This year the early season is proving very competitive Sam's started well, then there's Varusi coming in as a newcomer and surprising us. It's clear enough that if we hit our dip in form and they're in touch with us that they could take this out of our hands, we have to try and make sure that doesn't happen." The season now moves to Alexandus Prime for the third race in the calendar. ![]() JONES THIRD IN MUNDOVISION ![]() Achkaerin's Lucie Jones has finished third in the Mundovision Song Contest. The competition held in Valtheim following problems with East Moreland (the previous winner) being unable to host saw ten nations compete. Jones was last to sing on the night with a ballad that saw strong support from public and jury alike, the competition was won by Dartfordia's Lena with Jones twenty points adrift in third - Bykrestan finished second. Speaking afterwards Lucie said "I want to thank everyone who voted for me, it was a great night of music and just being able to perform in this is something special. I would have liked to have won but I'm happy with third, my congratulations to Lena on winning and to everyone else for putting on a great show. Roll on next year." |

![]() AADC UNVEILS NEW PROTOTYPE ![]() Achkaerin Aeronautic Development Company (AADC) has revealed a new prototype aircraft. The design presently operating under its project name of Thunderbird, is still in the development stages, with the realization of the design not expected for a long time to come. AADC CEO Darren Eagle spoke of his excitement of the project saying "It's not often you get the chance to try something as revolutionary as this might turn out to be. Ever since the early days aircraft design has done the same thing well now we're going a little different, if this works out passenger aircraft of this design could not only have sufficient space but also an increase in capacity." The project has attracted a level of skepticism with one source stating "There's no point reinventing the wheel when it doesn't need to be done." ![]() FOX'S TO SHOW SUPPORT FOR CARPENTER ![]() Achkaerin's rugby team have answered the call coming out of East Moreland to show support for Tim Carpenter by announcing that they will line up for their opening world cup match against Lodja wearing pink shirts (pictured above), teams have been asked to wear pink socks - something the Fox's will do but apparently there was a strong feeling within the camp to go a little bit further, as explained by the Coach David Nightingale: "Everyone knows stress, but not many understand the toll that takes on your body and your mind, this is why we've seen a rise in demand for sports psychologists. As competitors in sport we understand the pressure of having the hopes of a nation riding on you. We can only imagine the pressure someone leading a multi national organisation like the CTO comes under. We'd decided within seconds to wear pink socks throughout the tournament, just as East Moreland have decided to, but then the squad surprised the coaching staff by suggesting pink shirts for the opening game. We have five young players in the squad this year all of them were involved in Tim Carpenter's various youth projects, this is what they want to do and the squad supports them." In related news the Fox's are expected to progress through their group without too much difficulty though the presence of Lodja and Cantabria does cause most fans to be more guarded about their positioning of Achkaerin in the group, on world rankings Achkaerin would be expected to win but this is a sport where the rankings flatter to deceive, Achkaerin may be second in the rankings but against some big names ranked below them they would be the underdogs. It's also been revealed that the women's team has traveled out to the Iwi with the men for the duration of the tournament as a means of gaining experience, something the women's coach Lily Welsh has said is "Fantastic, this is a big step on the road to the development of a professional women's game in Achkaerin" Edited by Achkaerin, 16th August 2017 - 09:30 PM.

![]() ![]() PRINCESS ASTRID BASE HIT BY TSUNAMI ![]() The tsunami created by the breaking away of the Morris Ice Shelf from Hrothgar has hit Princess Astrid Base, there is not yet any definitive impression of how serious the damage to the base is but satellite imagery appears to show that the base buildings are surrounded at this time by water. However with the vast majority of base personnel evacuated in the days leading up to this senior military officials have been making the public aware of the training officers go through for these circumstances - there are according to a military spokesperson safe rooms and locations within facilities designed and situated to withstand this type of event. The Emperor has also given a statement to the press stating: "This is a trying time for many nations across Mundus, especially those in the tsunami's path and those most likely to be adversely affected by the increase in sea level. The root cause of this is according to our best scientists down to climate change and this is something that in the coming days I will be inviting my fellow leaders from across Mundus to respond to. Because it's all well and good for individual efforts but something like this demands more than that, it needs unity it needs collaboration or we're not leaving much of a planet behind for future generations." ![]() TSU AND CALLAGHAN AWARDED DJANA CROSS ![]() (left) Claire Callaghan and (right) girlfriend and daughter of the city's chief councilor Kirsty Tsu Kirsty Tsu and Claire Callaghan are to be awarded the Djana Cross, the highest military award that can be bestowed by the Achkaerinese leadership, it is awarded for "most conspicuous bravery, or some daring or pre-eminent act of valour or self-sacrifice, or extreme devotion to duty in the presence of the enemy.", Tsu and Callaghan who hold the ranks of Flight Leader and Pilot Officer in respectively in the Achkaerinese Air Force are to be awarded the medal due to their actions during the evacuation of civilians from the Phuebran capital of Khyat. In a hostile environment they evacuated upwards of seventy people and were then able to land their Eagle type aircraft on a carrier, something that aircraft is not designed for. It is believed that for personal reasons relating to Ms Callaghan that the ceremony will take place in two weeks time. ![]() HARRISON PREVAILS IN VAGUZIA ![]() Megan Harrison has won her second race of the season by taking the win in Vaguzia. Starting from third she was in a strong position but she would have to play the waiting game to get past her team mate Z Kennedy, eventually doing so in the first round of pit stops, pole sitter Takeshi Nakanishi of Chiyoko Motorsports Division fell away which allowed championship rival Quintus Varusi of Tifosi to take third but with Kennedy holding second it has allowed Harrison to extend her lead at the top of the standings as the paddock heads out to Dartfordia for one of the most popular races on the calendar the Sisko Grand Prix. In other sporting news the Fox's won their opening match at the Rugby World Cup by beating Lodja 21-15, the team as promised wore pink shirts for the match, coach David Nightingale has stated that it was "A solid performance but we've got a few things we need to tighten up on before our next game." |

![]() ![]() SECRETARY GENERAL GIVES PROGRESS INTERVIEW, AS WARNING SHOT IS FIRED AT HOME ![]() Secretary General Sakura Sheppard has given her first major interview since taking office, it comes following her first achievement in the office and the development of several other things, including what has been termed an "Ominous warning" back in Achkaerin where a Government Petition calling for a referendum on Achkaerin's continued membership of the Commonwealth Treaty Organisation has gone live and in the first two hours of its life obtained ten thousand signatures, at the time of reporting the total stands at twenty eight thousand five hundred, should it reach one hundred thousand signatures, something many political commentators expect then it will trigger a debate in the Senate. The questions and answers of the Secretary General's interview are below: [/big]
![]() GOVERNMENT ON ALERT AS CONSUL ACCUSES ROKKENJIMAN COURT OF WHITEWASH ![]() Consul Michael Williams has today made a remark of a type that many believed would not be heard again when it came to Rokkenjima, the comments were in response to a decision of the Supreme Court of Judicature of Rokkenjima cleared Beatrice Anselmo of all charges relating to her alleged interaction with the Borland Separatist terrorist group during the kidnap period of her daughter Crown Princess Adriana. Speaking on the matter the Consul stated: "If a single judge sitting in that court still has their job in a week I will be very surprised, because that ruling is clearly not founded in law - under Rokkenjiman Law the Borland Separatists are regarded as a 'Recognized Terrorist Enterprise' as stated in a Joint Rokkenjiman East Moreland statement, it therefore follows that there is a list of things that one does not do in relation to such an enterprise including acting on their behalf, procuring their services, knowingly contacting them. Let's get real the Rokkenjiman SCJ has conceded that there was contact and apparently that it was deliberate contact, so how is this not a criminal offence? In contacting the Borland Separatists we have a situation where the head of state of Rokkenjima is talking to Kyle Barren, that alone is potentially aid or material assistance bearing in mind the wide range of actions that can fall under those terms, it's also highly likely that even if no promise of tangible benefit was given, one was gained by the Borland Separatists, leverage, and this is precisely why the position of most governments is that they do not negotiate with terrorists because the second you talk to one group you open the floodgates to the rest. It is quite clear that the SCJ failed in its duty and rather than pursuing charges under legislation they instead whitewashed the charges. The exact reason is unknown but it does concern us that the throwing out of those charges, had they not been overruled by Empress Evanthe, could have paved the way for Beatrice Anselmo to resume a position of authority within Rokkenjima, of course that would be subject to the outcome of the trial presently underway, the point however is that like East Moreland if Beatrice assumes any position of authority within Rokkenjima we would have to consider very carefully our future relationship with Rokkenjima." ![]() HARRISON HORROR ACCIDENT OVERSHADOWS SISKO QUALIFYING ![]() Qualifying for the Sisko Grand Prix in Dartfordia came to an abrupt end earlier today following a horrendous crash involving defending champion and current championship leader Megan Harrison. The incident occurring during the third qualifying session saw Harrison, chasing pole position, suffer what appeared to be a freak suspension failure that resulted in the car barrel rolling down the straight before coming to a rest upside down (pictured above). Harrison was extricated from the car and airlifted to hospital with serious injuries including a broken leg, broken wrist and suspected spinal damage, there were also concerns of concussion given her unconscious state. It is highly unlikely that Harrison will be racing for a while, and the accident has almost certainly brought her drivers title defence to an end. Team mate Z Kennedy will fly the Riviere flag alone tomorrow in the race and then will be joined by back up driver Amy Ashton from the next round until such time as Megan is fit. Speaking about the situation Kennedy stated the following: "This is a horrific tragedy, I was coming down the straight a few seconds after her and I just saw her car there wheels up you never want to see anything like that in this sport, we were trying to get hold of her on the radio but there was no response. Hopefully she'll come round soon, recover from her injuries and be back on the grid later in the season, everyone on the team's pulling for her and our thoughts are with her family as well." ![]() KENNEDY WINS IN SISKO - DEDICATES VICTORY TO INJURED TEAM MATE ![]() Z Kennedy took the chequered flag in Dartfordia to win the Sisko Grand Prix, just over twenty four hours after team mate and defending drivers champion Megan Harrison was taken to hospital following a freak accident. Starting third Kennedy always had a chance of the win, in truth the hard part was actually taking to the grid as she spent a significant amount of the previous evening visiting her team mate and even then with the exact nature of the crash still being investigated the safety question was still hanging in the air. Relief came ninety minutes before the start of the race when the exact cause was discovered to be external of the car. On the track it was to prove a tough fight between Kennedy, Varusi from Tifosi and Tomàs from Magpie Racing it was all about who took their chance when it came and it came with twenty three laps remaining as Varusi pitted and Kennedy squeezed out enough of an advantage to get a pit stop in her pocket and from there went on to victory. Following her win Z gave the following statement: "This one's for Megan, it's really unfortunate that she's not here but when I was up at the hospital last night and she was still unconscious I sort of promised her I'd win, it wasn't easy and we were given one heck of a fight but it's great to be able to keep that promise and I'll be taking the trophy off to Megan shortly. Everyone's thinking about her, everyone's hoping to see her back this year and the gestures from some of the teams have been truly heartwarming, we at Riviere are really moved by them and I'm sure Megan will be to when she finds out." |

![]() ![]() PETITION REACHES THRESHOLD CTO REFERENDUM DEBATE SCHEDULED ![]() Not so much a shock but an expectation, once the petition calling for a referendum on Achkaerin's continued membership of the CTO was posted on the Senate's official website it was never a question of if it would reach the one hundred thousand signature threshold for debate but when would it reach that threshold? Well it happened late last night, this was confirmed by the Speaker's office this morning where it was also announced that the Senate would debate the petition on Wednesday of this week. It's likely to be a passionate affair, though early analysis suggests that the Senators will allow the public to have their say. There has not yet been any comment from the Marble Palace on this as it's believed that the Emperor will wait to see what the Senate's decision is before making his thoughts known. It's not known which way individual Senators will go in the debate but many expect that while it may be passionate it will not be extremely divisive. The person responsible for starting the petition Mr David Plant commented on the moment saying "I'm over the moon with the response the petition is getting, I started it because I wanted a free, honest and open debate on the situation of Achkaerin's relationship with the CTO. The fact that we've got this far shows people care about this and on Wednesday the Senate will hopefully show it cares and give the public the right to choose. The outcome does not matter what matters is that the public are given the opportunity to have their voice heard." In related news the Defence Minister Adam Sheppard confirmed that the security level around nuclear installations was being raised in response to an attack on a nuclear waste convoy in East Moreland. Given the terrorist implication of such an act the terror alert level has been raised to yellow, meaning that an attack is possible and precautions are being taken. |

![]() ![]() SENATE VOTES IN FAVOUR OF CTO REFERENDUM ![]() The Achkaerinese Senate has voted in favour of granting the people a referendum on Achkaerin's continued membership of the CTO. The result comes following a close to ten hour debate in Liberty Hall where the vast majority of the four hundred and ninety nine Senators seemed to wish to speak. There were no party lines drawn this was a free vote, the result was three hundred and seventy for and one hundred and twenty nine against, a rare achievement in that all the Senators voted. Further details on the referendum are expected in the next couple of days, there has still been no comment from the Marble Palace or from the Palace of Nations. But the warning is writ large Achkaerinese citizens will have the right to decide whether or not the country should continue to be a member of the CTO, and if leave were to prevail it would be without question the most devastating blow to the CTO to date. This is of course known to the Senators which goes some way to explaining the number of opponents but there appeared to be a concerted desire by the Senate to confront the issue straight away rather than have it continue to niggle around in the political background as explained by Jonathon Hunt the Minister for Cross Straits Affairs - "Everyone in the Senate recognizes the importance of the CTO in international affairs in terms of the role it is capable of playing, however there is an ever growing school of thought in the court of public opinion that the CTO is not living up to that potential and is effectively a dead horse being flogged or a patient on life support. Today Senators have for the most part put their opinions of the CTO aside and voted to give the choice to the people, that doesn't mean to say that those Senators who voted to give the choice today will vote to leave on referendum day, it just means that we are seeing a democratic process being upheld" ![]() PROSECUTION CLOSES CASE AT GENOCIDE TRIAL The Prosecution in the Andean Genocide Trial has closed its case with testimony on the final day coming from Attorney General Samuel White, former Rokkenjiman Imperial Councillor of Foreign Affairs Nettie Taylor, Secretary General of the CTO Sakura Sheppard, Chief Constable of the Mundus Crime Agency Amber Duff and finally Crown Princess Serenity. According to legal commentators the prosecution has presented a very clear, very strong and very compelling case showing everything they need to show at least that's the impression gathered from Commander Andrew Conway (pictured above), the lead defence counsel in the case. It's unlikely that the defence will be able to do much to challenge the prosecution narrative, with many expecting a character focused defence to be pursued instead. |

![]() ![]() REFERENDUM DETAILS OUTLINED BY CABINET SECRETARY ![]() Cabinet Secretary Michelle Lowe explained the Referendum details The Achkaerinese Government has revealed the details regarding the referendum on Achkaerin's continued membership of the Commonwealth Treaty Organisation. They were announced and outlined by the Cabinet Secretary, Michelle Lowe. In a relatively short press conference Ms Lowe began by presenting the referendum details below:
The Cabinet Secretary then explained a few of the details stating "The main purpose of today's announcement is to set out the rules as it were of the referendum, we make known the question that the people will be asked and we highlight some key details as to various important times throughout the campaigning period. There is of course one issue that has already been raised by Leave supporters which is the Emperor's power of veto, with many believing that with Crown Princess Serenity being a former Secretary General and now his niece Sakura Sheppard being the current Secretary General that the Emperor is somewhat biased on this issue. As an Achkaerinese citizen the Emperor is entitled to his opinion but he is mindful of this suggestion and has informed the Senate that it will be addressed promptly. We anticipate a hard fought referendum campaign from both sides and whatever the outcome the Achkaerinese Government will endeavor to have in place provisions that account for the result and how it affects the country." ![]() GENOCIDE TRIAL PRODUCES SHOCK MOMENT ![]() Crown Princess Serenity left the court clearly affected by what had transpired earlier in the day The Andean Genocide Trials have concluded the evidence stage as the Defence opened and closed its case today, the defence only called a single witness to the stand this being Charles Foster Ofdensen, the former Lord High Steward of Rokkejima as well as the second person to hold the position of Secretary General of the Commonwealth Treaty Organisation. In advance of his testimony the feeling among most legal analysts was that this was expected with many expecting a simple examination in chief to rebut specifics of the prosecution case most notably implications made by the testimony of Prince of Dartfordia and Emperor Emerita of Rokkenjima Alexander Anselmo. This they got, but the cross examination had more than a few surprises in store. First among them being that the Prosecution utilized provisions under Achkaerinese military law that allowed Crown Princess Serenity to conduct the questioning, while initially surprising it soon became clear why as specific knowledge known to the Crown Princess was used and weaved together to take apart the alibi's of Mr Ofdensen, over the course of testimony the Crown Princess established the true extent of Mr Ofdensen's crimes each relating in some part whether directly or indirectly to the Genocide these involving the kidnapping of Crown Princess Adriana and the failed assassination of Empress Emerita Beatrice Anselmo, all of which Mr Ofdensen on the witness stand confessed to. He also confessed to burying the orders of the Empress Emerita in relation to the enforcing of Article three of the Sakura Umeko Accord, a provision which would have seen Rokkenjiman military forces stepping into Nueva Ardia and potentially preventing further atrocities in the nation. With the Defence having rested the court has adjourned while the judge determines verdict and subsequent sentences. The Crown Princess was unavailable for comment and was seen carefully leaving the court building at the conclusion of the day's evidence with several commentators believing her to be distressed at the days events. Speaking afterwards Admiral Rankin, the Judge Advocate General, said "Obviously given the high profile nature of the case and the fact that it's being broadcast live across Mundus this appears to be a very Ostlake[1] moment. But the truth is we see these sorts of things in the courtroom day in and day out, witness stories not stacking up, alibi's not withstanding scrutiny. The only unusual thing about today was the Prosecution seeking to use those provisions but that has seemingly been vindicated." ![]() FOX'S QUALIFY FOR KNOCKOUT STAGES Fox's skipper Tovan Holtz was in fine form in the victory over Cantabria Achkaerin's Fox's have qualified for the knockout rounds of the rugby world cup with a convincing 25-12 victory over Cantabria, the team unbeaten in the tournament brought their usual style of rugby a solid kicking game backed up with speed and pace in a free flowing attack. The team was led from the front against Cantabria by their captain Tovan Holtz (pictured above) who scored two tries in the victory. Coach David Nightingale said after the game "We've been improving each game, we've got more and more into sync as the tournament has gone on, the kicking game has got more accurate, our passing looks sharper and our set plays are getting more precise. Mercia won't be an easy game for us but we're optimistic. The interesting thing will be what the final placements are for the last sixteen because normally by this point we know at least one group winner, this year we don't, this year the top four seeds though they sit top of their groups at the moment could all lose those groups. It's the most intriguing rugby world cup to date." The Coach of the women's team Lily Welsh, who along with the women's squad has been out in the Iwi with the men's team, was also asked for comment to which she said "It's been a fantastic learning experience for us out here, and we'll always be grateful to David and the men's squad for having us along. We've learned a lot from watching the matches and gained great experience from the atmosphere which hopefully we can use to our own advantage when we play next time."
