ELECTIONS TO TAKE PLACE 30th APRIL 2014

The Riksdag Speaker announced this morning that the general election will take place on the 30th April 2014. This is a month earlier than legally required but it was felt that with the UNP joining the Independent Order it is important to gauge the public's desired relationship with our neighbours sooner rather than later. This is just one policy that is sure to be a key focus of campaigns by all parties. Nord First have already stated that if they were elected they would ensure that international organisations are kept out of UNP legislative matters, meanwhile UNPSP have stated they would seek closer ties with Socialist governments in other areas of the region.

Other matter sure to be hotly debated include the tax rate, defence spending and changes to education policies. It is widely expected that a large number of independent candidates will run for election in Skagen due to the nation getting substantially less funding than other regions in the last budget.

The Minister of Defence today announced that the government would put out for tender bids to build the nations new coastal patrol vessel. The previous vessels of the Karlsson Class will be phased out by 2017 and a replacement sought.
Posted Image
A Ministry of Defence spokesman stated that it was the belief that the Karlsson Class vessels were now too small and lightly armed to effectively police the waterways of the UNP. It is widely thought that UNP manufacturer Thrall Industries will be the front runner for the contract, however the government will not rule out buying from a foreign company. "We need to ensure our navy has the best possible equipment, if this means buying abroad we must do so, that may be the wake up call some of our companies need."

Initial bids have until the end of 2014 to table their proposals with the Ministry of Defence.

Skagen Superstars went top of the table yesterday in the UNP Elite Hockey League. They defeated Sauli Jets 3-2 after a hard fought game. This now see's them one point clear of their nearest rivals Nordenland Eagles.
Posted Image
MVP of the game was Tobias Dahl who created all 3 of his teams goals. With the announcement of the UNP national team in two weeks time Dahl looks set to gain his first cap for the Nords.

Over the last two nights members of all six political parties have had chance to debate some of the key issues concerning voters in the coming elections of April 10th. With just 8 days to go the lead enjoyed by the Nordic Centre Party seems to have been cut significantly. The latest poll from The Bugle suggests votes will end as follows

Nordic Central Party 36% (down from 44%)
People's Rights Party 24% (down from 28%)
UNP Socialist Party 12% (up from 6%)
Conservative Future 8% (down from 12%)
Liberal Nord Alliance 10% (up from 6%)
Nords First 10% (up from 4%)

The biggest winners from the recent debates seem to be the minor parties such as the Nords First and UNP Socialist Party. There were seem to suggest that one of these parties will hold the key to the next coalition as the split between the Nordic Central Party and Conservative Future seems to make the chances of a future coalition between the two impossible. The two parties are split over the idea of the UNP joining the Cisrhenani Defense Initiative with the NCP supporting membership while CF supports remaining neutral in terms of international alliances.

This week will see a series of one to one interviews with the leaders of each party in which they will each get the chance to outline their future vision for the nation ahead of polls opening on the 10th of April, 10 days earlier than initially intended. The poll was brought forward 10 days to try and get agreement about the actions of the CDI membership however this point now appears mute as many are becoming disinterested in the organisations lack of progress.

As well as decieding the make up of the Riksdag that day a number of referendum questions will be asked. Each answered with either agree or disagree. Those questions will be as follows.

1. The Union of Nordic People should become members of the CDI.
2. The Union of Nordic People should apply for membership of the Cultural Treaty Organisation
3. The Union of Nordic People should allow its armed forces to operate outside of UNP Soverign territory.
4. The Union of Nordic People should allow same sex marriage.
5. The Union of Nordic people should place limits on immigration.

It is expected that voter turn out will be high

With five days of voting left before the results of the 2014 Riksdag election are announced exit polls show a close race at the front. The Nordic Central Party seem neck and neck with the UNP Socialist Party, both are polling at around 30%, this would mean no party has a clear majority so would need to form a coalition, with the Nordic Central Party and COnservative Future having formed successful coalitions in the Longhouse in the past this looks the most likely outcome. Meanwhile the lack of obvious ally for the Socialist Party would see them most likely as opposition. There are of course 5 days left of voting so much can change. If you haven't voted yet you can check out our handy guide

All citizens get to choose two parties, the share of seats in the Riksdag decided on proportional representation.

Meanwhile 5 Referendum Questions have been asked , our latest polls are displayed below.

1. The Union of Nordic People should become members of the CDI. YES 51% No 49%
2. The Union of Nordic People should apply for membership of the Cultural Treaty Organisation YES =65% NO=35%
3. The Union of Nordic People should allow its armed forces to operate outside of UNP Soverign territory. YES = 55% NO= 45%
4. The Union of Nordic People should allow same sex marriage. YES= 70% NO = 30%
5. The Union of Nordic people should place limits on immigration. YES = 40% NO= 60%

We encourage anyone wishing to voice an opinion or ask any of the parties questions to contact us here

(OOC - If anyone wants to make a statement from their nation about a referendum article or pretend to be a member of the public etc and ask a candidate a question etc feel free. I'm just experimenting with the democracy of my nation being a bit interactive.)

Polling stations in the UNP are due to close in less than 24 hours. According to exit polls it looks like the Nordic Central Party will gain the most seats in the Riksdag with around 29% far short of a majority. As a result it is looking likely that a coalition will need to be formed, with the NCP most likely linking with the Conservative Future Party. Things at the front though are neck and neck with the UNP Socialist Party around 5% behind, meaning there would be an outside chance of them forming a coalition, however it is unlikely they will find significant support from other parties. Polling stations will be open throughout the night until 9am Thursday morning. If you still haven't voted check out our guide

All citizens get to choose two parties, the share of seats in the Riksdag decided on proportional representation.

Below are the exit polls on the five referendum questions, which have seen very little change since the first day of voting.

1. The Union of Nordic People should become members of the CDI. YES 49% No 51%
2. The Union of Nordic People should apply for membership of the Cultural Treaty Organisation YES =70% NO=30%
3. The Union of Nordic People should allow its armed forces to operate outside of UNP Soverign territory. YES = 50% NO= 50%
4. The Union of Nordic People should allow same sex marriage. YES= 70% NO = 30%

The route for the Global Ocean Race 2014-2015 has been announced, this year the race will have a truly international flavour. In an attempt to boost participation in sailing globally the organisers have decieded to open entries to teams from around the world. So far teams from Reichtopia, Achkaerin, Kazarovia, Central Ossario Republic, The Verovian Empire, Ndambia, Tytor, Dijel and East Moreland have signed up to participate. It is anticipated that in another change to the events traditional structure there will be a series of local races as well as just one timed race around Mundus. The race will start in July 2014 and is expected to take around eight months to complete. Reigning UNP Champion skipper Jonas Rahmberg will skipper the Nordic Coastal Club team, "We're thrilled to be joined by yachtmen and women from across Mundus, I've always considered ourselves a happy little community so it'll be nice to get to visit all these other ports and compete with the best in the world. It being an international race this year really puts more pressure on but that's all part of top class sports."

Kristoffer Rasmussen celebrating his parties results

The polls closed several hours ago and the results are in. This has been the closest election for several decades but once again the people have the Union of Nordic People have failed to elect a majority government. The Riksdag's largest block of seats went to the Nordic Central Party who saw an astonishing 67 seats lost. The other big losers were the People's Rights Party who lost 22 seats. The biggest winners of the night had to be the UNP Socialist Party who picked up 35 new seats and Nords First who picked up 20 new seats. This reflects the growing apathy voters have for the traditional parties who many feel have failed to truly push the nation forward in recent years or have ignored many of the working classes issues.

The full results are as follows;

Nordic Central Party 87 seats (NPC)
UNP Socialist Party 77 seats (UNPSP)
Conservative Future 48 seats (CF)
Nords First 39 seats (NF)
Peoples Rights Party 39 seats (PRP)
Liberal Nord Alliance 10 seats (LNA)

As things stand Helene Öman of the NPC remains as Prime Minister and will attempt to secure an extra 64 seats by forming a coalition , she will have one week to do this, however this looks unlikely as the NPC's partner of choice will be CF who posses just 48 seats leaving them 16 seats short of a majority. As the constitution states Kristoffer Rasmussen will then be given 48hours to attempt to form a coalition with 151 seats. This however looks even less likely as the UNPSP have no obvious political allies. Therefore it looks likely that Mrs.Öman will have to try and govern with a minority of seats and rely on support of Riksdag Members (RM's) on an issue by issue basis.

We spoke with Rasmussen, the leader of the UNPSP, "Its been a great night for us, as the votes came in district by district the sense of excitement grew, we never expected to get so many, yes we expected a significant increase in seats but never to this extent. I think the people of the UNP have sent a clear message to the ruling parties that they are fed up of being marginalised in favour of big business. I just hope we can now use our influence to help all the people who voted for us."

Meanwhile in Uppsala at her parties HQ we got this statement from Helene Öman. "It's been a tough round of elections this time, while I'm, honoured the people of the country have once again allowed me the honour of being Prime Minister I understand that they clearly believe we should be doing some things differently. I want to assure the people we have noticed your voice and we will listen." When asked about plans for the coalition she said "At the moment I'm going to concentrate on having a good night celebrating our victory with our supporters and the wonderful volunteers who helped us in this campaign, tomorrow we'll sit down and consider our options, as things stand we're still the government."

Suprisingly Nords First, one of the newer smaller parties saw their share of the vote skyrocket in what is only their second attempt at being elected. Their leader Viljo Larsson was in Jaholm when the results came in. "39 seats for us is an amazing return, we spent far less on campaigning than the others and clearly people liked our policies, they liked our message. We may not be the government but we have some influence now, there are policies we like of the NCP and some we don't, I don't see us getting in bed together, so to speak, but we can maybe do some business from time to time. Its been a great night for us, excuse me while I get drunk."

The new Riksdag will meet on Monday when members will be sworn into office and the Head of The Longhouse, Petter Knutsen will formally welcome new RM's.

The two UNP Ambassadors to the CDI will today formally resign the nations seat in the organisation. After a close vote of the referendum 55% of people choose to walk away from the alliance. Marissa Hysen said "I'm sad we have to do this but the people have spoken, I'll be handing our notice of resignation in to the chair in the morning. Its vital we now turn our attention to building separate relations with our neighbours.

Meanwhile as the UNP leaves one international agreement it looks to enter another. With 75% of the UNP voting to join the Cultural Exchange Treaty Organisation. Professor Melissa Elm boarded a plane late last night as the result was announced. "The organisations first meeting takes place tomorrow and we need to be their to put forward our application. It's a wonderful organisation that will bring so much to our nation. To have been selected to handle our application is a priviledge for any scholar so I'm thrilled." It is expected the application will take a few days to discuss as part of a very large CETO agenda at their initial meeting.

It was almost deadlocked in the vote as to whether the UNP military can operate outside of UNP territory, in the vote 51% of people voted yes. This immediately started rumours that the UNP will be sending troops to help in the ongoing humanitarian saga that is Safraen.

Former RM Kianna Mikkelsen and her soon to be wife Rachel Erier

For 40 years former Riksdag Member for the Liberal Nord Alliance Kianna Mikkelsen has capmiagned for LGBT right. Last night what she described as "the most pressing issue" was resolved. 80% of people voted to allow same sex marriage. The first ceremonies will be allowed to take place from the 1st of May and Kianna will be at the front of the cue.

Immigration will not have any additional limits imposed upon it. What had been a flagship policy for the NF party was defeated when 55% of citizens voted to maintain the current immigration policy.

This concludes our round up of the 2014 UNP Riksdag elections. We do this all again in 12 months when we vote for the Longhouse and Presidential positions. The turn out for this election was 65% with the referendum turn out being slightly higher at 69%

Talks of forming a coalition between the Nordic Centre Party (NCP) and Conservative Future (CF) began today. Delegations from the two parties meet at the NCP HQ in Uppsala for talks about forming a coalition that would still be a minority. Prime Minister Helene Öman had one to one talks with CF leader Christine Hjort, it is thought these talks will have centred on how the government can instil traditional family values in its current policies. However finding common ground may not be straight forward, while the NCP wants to see a modern based curriculum brought into schools CF wishes to maintain many of the traditional values and subjects. One item to come under extreme pressure will be the role of religion in schools, with the NCP wishing it to be taught but favour no single religion the CF party wish to have Christianity central to school life.

Lars Thom one of the UNP's representatives to the Joint Emergency Team has told us that it looks like UNP members of the humanitarian organisation will be deploying to Safraen in the coming few days. Rumours of a disease outbreak and subsequent civil unrest have indicated that the country is in turmoil. It is expected that around 250 UNP personnel will be part of the operation.

Today the coalition between the Nordic Central Party and the Conservative Future was officially announced. The government will put forward their agenda for the coming Riksdag calendar. It is thought the impending change in the UNP's education will feature heavily along with policies looking at expanding the UNP's international links.

In recent days the UNP personnel attached to the Joint Emergency Team (JET) have deployed to Safraen in order to help with the aid effort there. This marks the UNP's first overseas deployment of any type of force. The deployment is likely to last several months and will probably see a significant number of refugees. The number of refugees coming to the UNP is unknown and it is likely that Nords First will oppose any re-settlement of refugees here.

In other news the UNP's JET ally East Moreland have been the victims of yet another terrorist attack. It is believed that this one has taken the life of the monarch King David III. His cousin Prince James is currently acting as regent while Princess Freya is in Safraen. One of the Regents first actions was to replace the Cabinet. We wish our JET allies well in this difficult time.

Preparations began today for Nordenhaus Folk Festival. A series of local folk festivals will take place over the next three weeks culminating in the four day Nordenhaus Fok Festival which takes place just North of Dorotea. This will crown the UNP's Folk Festival Band Champions. The 2013 winners were Rökkurróvv who will headline the Saturday night. In other cultural news the Global Yacht Race is due to begin in around a month , details of the route are to be distributed in a few days time.

With 12 months to go before the election of the Head of the Longhouse Petter Knutsen has announced his intention to run for his second and final term. Mr.Knutsen became the youngest Head at the age of 30, when he was elected in 2011. The former stockbroker from Jana was elected on a manifesto of bringing greater accountability to the Riksdag while also getting the UNP involved in international affairs. The Head of the Longhouse is responsible for overseeing the application of the constitution, representing the Union overseas and calling for the closing and opening of the Riksdag at election time. As a independent candidate it is thought that Mr.Knutsen will face opposition from candidates representing a number of the other parties. As of yet the only other person to voice a public interest in standing for the role is Ulf Joachim of the Nord First Party. Mr.Joachim is keen to create a new more "Nord Friendly" constitution after claims that the current constitution has been watered down to pamper to the demands on non-natives to the UNP.

In the Riksdag yesterday the Prime Minister Helene Öman announced the agenda for reforms for the term ahead. With a coalition in place with the Conservative Future Party the Nordic Central Parties manifesto is not fully realised. The announcement places a heavy emphasis on growing the economy by investing in green energies, particularly expanding the Geothermal energy sector. To achieve this planning permission for geothermal plants will be made easier and tax breaks given to companies who invest in any green energy production. In terms of education a consultation will being in the coming weeks over a new curriculum for all schools within the UNP. It is thought an empassis will be put on what Deputy Prime Minister Christine Hjort has described as "returning good honest family values to the centre of everyday life." We are lead to believe this will see subjects such as Religious Education limited to the teaching of Christianity and Paganism, while History will have less on an international focus and concentrate predominantly on the history of the UNP. Another key focus of the upcoming term will be to form links with other countries in terms of trade and industry. It was widely thought the UNP would take a minor investment in the newly announced East Moreland Technology City, but with recent developments in the country this has been placed on a back burner.

The annual Sauli Folk Festival has begun in Nordenhaus 15km north of Dorotea. The annual festival sees artists from around Mundus perform alongside home grown talent that has won the right to perform after competing in regional folk competitions. The festival has a tradition of being opened by a big name act and this year was no exception. Mumford and Son's played to a crowd of around 80,000 people in the bright sun shine. Over the next week around 200 different acts will take to the stage and the biggest crowds are expected on Saturday when around 100,000 people will pack the festival. The biggest Nordic acts this year are expected to be Sigur Ros , Mum and Peter Broderick.

Prime Minister Helene Oman is currently attempting to mediate an international incident between several nations. As tensions grew between two factions over the Illumic Channel the UNP's Prime Minister offered to help smooth things over, along with The North there are hopes a stand off can be prevented from turning into a war. The incident started a few days ago when Seaforth and KasierAdolf began to blockade the Illumic Channel as a response to what they perceived as the militarisation of the Illumic by CSTO forces. As the Illumic provides a vital transport link for UNP personel attached to the Joint Emergency Team the Prime Minister felt it was necessary to try and end the blockade as soon as possible. Mrs.Oman has travelled to The North for face to face talks between parties and hopes to be able to persuade all nations concerned to sign the Free Seas's Concordt. This is a treaty which both protects a nations sovereign territorial waters while at the same time providing innocent passage for foreign ships. As the Treaty would impact UNP soverign territory the Prime Minister has ordered a referendum to be held on the 1st June. She urges citizens to read the Treaty which can be found on our websiteand vote to approve this.

Union of Nordic People Join Free Seas Concordt

Posted Image

After a referendum of the UNP Prime Minister Helene Oman has signed the Free Seas Concordt document drafted by Rokkenjima. Several weeks ago Prime Minister Oman travelled to The North to try and mediate between the nations of Seaforth and members of the CSTO. These talks seem to have been successful as Seaforth and their neighbours CSTO member Elpidia signed a non-aggression pact soon after. In an attempt to make such situations less likely to happen in the future the Prime Minister recommended governments sign the Concordt and also sent the treaty to the Riksdag for it to be placed on a referendum. Upon closing the Referendum 73% of those who voted agreed to signing the Free Seas Concordt. Chief Executive of UNP SHipping Ltd Klaus Rahmberg was thrilled "anything that makes the seas a safer place for business is good by me. It makes sense to allow merchant shipping safe passage, shipping is the life blood of Mundus."

New Political Party Formed

Posted Image

Today UNP businessman Kjetl Gunnarsson formed the Odinic Rite Party (ORP). He registered the party with the UNP Electoral Commission and handed over details of 176 members. The Party, whose slogan is "Faith, Folk, Family" are committed to promoting the growth of Odin worship and wish to make UNP laws based on the beliefs of Odin worship. Mr. Gunnarsson established the party because he feels that the UNP government are being "too accommodating" of new immigrants to the nation. In his first media interview as leader Mr.Gunnarsson said "Odinism gives us our identity, and identity is vital, for an individual, and for a race. Many of today’s problems, personal, national, and global, stem from a loss of identity. We are in an unnatural situation, for while it is socially acceptable, in fact seen as desirable, for all other ethnic groups to feel a pride in their culture, their heritage, the same does not apply to us." It is also widely expected that Mr.Gunnarsson will announce his candidacy for Head of The Longhouse, a position elected in less than 12 months time.

Kjetl Gunnarsson of the new Odinic Rite Party has announced his candidacy for the role of Head of The Longhouse. The 46 year old shipping company magnet has toyed with entering politics on a number of occasions and often stated that he "was not thrilled with traditional parties". After announcing the formation of his own party yesterday it was expected that he would announce his candidacy for this role soon after. He is expected to be financing his campaign himself and being the 4th richest person in the Union he will not be short of funds. Mr.Gunnarsson has spoken of his desire to return to traditional Odinist values as he feels that they have been marginalised for more modern versions of Norse religion.

In the past Mr.Gunnarsson has been linked to groups of militant Odinists, something he has distanced himself from. In the past Mr.Gunnarsson has stated that "young Odinists feel isolated from their heritage, of course they will lash out, I intend to give them a peaceful outlet to channel their obvious passions down a legal route." It is yet to be seen whether this approach will be successful.

Large-Scale Physics Experiment to Begin

The Ministry for Science and Technology today announced the construction of an underground Large Hadron Collider. The 25km long partical collider will be used to cast light upon some of the mysteries of universe. The project will be built around 30km outside Jaholm. It is expected to draw international interest and Science and Technology Minister Ulf Gren said "We are more than happy to welcome scientists from around the world. The more interest the better research. We would like to think Jaholm can become an international centre for science."

GOVERNMENT EDUCATION REFORMS SPARK PROTESTS

Posted Image

The government announced yesterday that Religious Education lessons in High Schools will feature lessons on the Roman Catholic and Protestant faiths. This sparked immediate protests from nationalist groups. The reforms will see all 11-16 year old given lessons on the two majority Christian faiths and questions on the religion will feature in the Year 11 exams towards the High School Diploma. Ministry of Education spokesman Glenn Hysen told us "We live in a global community, while we may still be a Pagan nation our neighbours are not, we must prepare our young people for living in this world where they are a minority religion." The move was controversial as Head of the Longhouse, Petter Knutsen , is married to a Catholic women born outside the UNP. It sparked rumours that Mr.Knutsen may have converted despite him regularly being seen to attend religious services to Odin. "Mr.Knutsen's faith is a matter for the Head, this move has been coming for quiet a long time now." the Ministries spokesman said.

Within hours of the announcement groups of protestors from the newly formed Odinic Rite and the more established nationalist group Nords First meet outside the Riksdag and Ministry Buildings. This marks the first time the groups have collaborated. Nord First leader Viljo Larsson attended one of the protests. "This move is shocking, they say we are preparing our children to live in a world in which they are a minority, however all that will do is make them feel that they are different and in the wrong. We shouldn't do that. We should make them proud of their unique faith." When asked about a possible alliance with the Odinic Rite Mr.Larsson said "While we respect their stance on many issues we believe that they are more concerned with religion than National identity. I'm sure we can agree on many things and when that's the case we will gladly work alongside them." Meanwhile Kjetl Gunnarsson of the Odinic Rite group attended the protest outside the Ministry Building, he was more outspoken. "Once again they try and dilute our faith, Knutsen is pandering to the will of his wife. Her foreign faith is her business, she should not be imposing it on our children. Our children should be proud to honour Odin not be made to be subservient to a foreign Pope."

The protests are expected to continue tomorrow. The Ministry of Eductaion spokesman said that the new syllabus will begin in September and new textbooks have already been ordered to support teachers. "What people need to remember is that our Religious Education lessons are not presenting any religion as fact, we merely tell young people what different religions believe and they are free to make up their own mind."

CHURCH ATTACKED IN UPPSALA

This morning a horrid attack on St Sigfrid Church was discovered. At some point between afternoon mass finishing at 5pm and the usual closure of the Church at 6:30pm the local Priest Ruben Wilhelm was brutally attacked. During the attack he was nailed in a crucifix position to the alter. This attack has left the Priest badly shaken and suffering from two broken hands and severe blood loss. The Church was also graffiti'd with slogans such as "hands of our children" leading investigators to believe that the attack was motivated by anti-Christian feelings sparked by the recent changes to the National Curriculum. While the church was vandalised and the priest attacked the graveyard was also the target of the attackers rage. Most gravestones were smashed and daubed in slogans that were anti-Christian. Father Wilhelm is currently being treated at Uppsala General Hospital and is under police guard in case this was an attack against the Priest in particular rather than just an opportunist attack against the Church.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Justice said "This attack is unusual for the Union of Nordic People. We have a long tradition of tolerance and cultural respect. The Police had a number of leads they are following and we would urge anyone who knows or suspects anything about the attack to contact their local police station as soon as possible." When asked whether he believed the attack was inspired by the protests organised by political parties he said "we can not rule that out at this moment." We put that accusation to
Kjetl Gunnarsson, leader of the newly formed Odinic Rite Politcial party, he said "That is ludicrous, yes we are angry about the changes to education, but never have we advocated violence. We see religious minorities as guests in our nation and one of our Nine Noble Virtues is Hospitality, to look after and care for our guests. We will fully co-operate with the Police and we wish Father Wilhelm a speedy recovery." Meanwhile Viljo Larsson of Nordic First said, "While we believe that our nation should be Odinist in outlook we want all Nords, regardless of religion, to prosper and be safe, there is no way our party would have wished this. Should any member of our party be found to have carried out these attacks indepedently we will of course give the Police every help and assistance."

Police in Uppsala will increase patrols around Churches and Christian buildings and monuments in order to reassure members of that community.

COALITION MARCHES IN SUPPORT OF CHURCH
Posted Image

Members of the two coalition parties, the Nordic Central Party and the Conservative Future, joined marches lending support to the recently attacked Church. Around 2,000 people marched through the street neighbouring the Church while other voulenteers helped clean up the graffiti scrawled onto the Church walls. Amongst those marching was Prime Minister Helene Oman. She informed us that she has recived messages from concerned nations. In addition to the statement released she was keen to point out "Christianity has had a long history of co-existance alongside Odin worship. Our coalition partners are pro-Christian and their leader,Christine Hjort, is a commited Church goer. Our Head of the Longhouse Peter Knutssen is married to a Catholic. Clearly this shows we are open and welcoming of all Christians in our nation."

Members of the religious based Odinic Rite did not attend the rally. Their leader Kjetl Gunnarsson was instead found handing out leaflets in Uppsala high street highlighting the parties stance on the new education policies. "What happened to the poor priest is tragic, however crimes are commited everyday and politicans are not expected to comment on them. We wish the Priest a speedy recovery." Meanwhile the nationalist leaning Nords First and their leader Viljo Larsson were keen to point out, "We have Nords of all religions, Odinism is and should be our state religion but that doesn't lead to persecution. This was a tragic event carried out by idiots."

The Police have collected several hours of CCTV footage and have indicated they are searching for four men, aged between 16Uppsala's main shopping precinct at around 7pm. They were carrying a black rucksack and wearing black hoodys with Rune designs drawn on them.

NATION CELEBRATES SUMMER SOLSTICE
Posted Image

Millions of people gathered at sacred sites around the Union today to welcome the sunrise. In a tradition going back to the dawn of time devotees of Odin Worship gathered to give thanks to the Gods. This was followed by a day of celebrations, feasting and dancing. Prime Minister Helene Oman and her family journeyed to the Voykal Standing Stones just outside the city to celebrate with thousands of others, before journeying to the stones she first stopped at St. John's Church in Uppsala where she placed a basket of food. "It symbolic on this day that we share food with our neighbours regardless of their religion. This year this has become even more important. I hope this evening many of our Christian citizens will come out and celebrate with their Odinist neighbours and friends." Today is also the feast day of St.Alban of Mainz a minor feast day for Christians. Chief of the Longhouse, Peter Knutsson again came under fire today as he was absent form the ceremonies at the Voykal standing stones and instead accompanied his wife Marissa and their children to a midnight mass in celebration of the Christian saint. When asked for comment the Chief's office said he "was not available for comment."

ODINIC RITE BACKED YOUTH CLUB VANDALISED
Posted Image

A youth club run by volunteers from the Odinic Rite was vandalised on the evening of the summer solstice. The Hjalm Street Centre has been run by members of the Odinic Rite for the last 10years. The centre provides youth activities to members of the local community and is open to all people aged between 12-18. The graffiti was Christian in nature and covered most of the outside walls.

KNUTSSON CRITICALLY WOUNDED

Posted Image

Following the recent bomb attack on the hotel housing the delegations for the Human Rights Conference in Dartfordia the Union of Nordic People's Head of the Longhouse, Peter Knutsson has been taken to hospital critically ill. Mr. Knutsson was representing the nation at the first conference of its kind when a bomb thought to have been detonated by rouge members of Elpidia's intelligence service known as the "Iron Crown" exploded close to his quarters. It took almost an hour for Mr.Knutsson to be pulled from the rubble from where he was taken to the Royal Churchill Hospital. A spokesman for the Longhouse said "Its tragic that Mr.Knutsson has been so severely injured, he is currently under heavy medical sedation after suffering severe head trauma." According to doctors he has had to receive "several pints of blood to help stabilise an internal bleed." We were also told that surgeons remain on standby to deal with his head trauma.

With Mr.Knutsson incapacitated it falls to The Longhouse Deputy Willa Sunbrek to fulfil his role in negotiations and discussions which will still take place as planned. It is believed this is to be a symbol that terrorism will not derail Human Rights.

Elpidia's Lord Protector Edward Trudden also died in the attack and was thought to be the primary target. Prince Alexander of Littlebrook was also severely injured in the attack which is thought to have been motivated by the recent formation of the Cross Straits Union.

Prime Minister Helene Oman announced the news to the Riksdag which put in place emergency actions to transfer the powers of Head of the Longhouse to Miss Sunbrek until further notice. With elections due to take place in 6 months for the role it remains to be seen if Peter Knutsson will be in any condition to fight for re-election.

KNUTSSON DECLARED "BRAIN DEAD"

Posted Image

Overnight Doctors in Dartfordia pronounced that the Head of the Longhouse Peter Knutsson is "brain dead". Following massive head trauma sustained during the attack on the hotel in which delegates for the Human Rights Conference were staying Knutsson has been unconcious and placed on a life support system. Doctors at the Royal Churchill Hospital have been running medical tests throughout the night and have drawn the conclusion that it is only the machines that have kept Mr.Knutsson alive. The Head's wife Marissa arrived late last night and meet with doctors and was informed of the prognosis before a spokesman for the hospital spoke to the press. "It is with regret that we announce that following independent tests by two doctors we have found no brain activity. At the moment the only thing keeping Mr.Knutsson alive is a life support machine. We believe that he has no chance of recovery. We will do our best to keep him comfortable while we comply with the wishes of his family who have asked for privacy at this difficult time." No statement has been released by the Knutsson family.

Peter Knutsson has been Head of the Longhouse for four years and was due to stand for re-election early next year. He has been married to his wife Marissa for 16 years and they have two children, Anders (Aged 8) and Mary (Aged 12). It is believed that the children are still in Uppsala but will fly out today to Dartfordia.

In the meantime Willa Sunbrek will represent the nation at the Human Rights Conference, it is likely that the Deputy of the Longhouse will now be sworn in as Knutsson's replacement until emergency elections are called within 90 days. A motion to this end will be debated by the Riksdag today and is expected to be voted upon by Wednesday.

To date their had been three candidates who have put themselves forward for election, one was Mr.Knutssen, his long term political rival Charles Hjunberg representing the more socialist elements of government and most recently Kjetl Gunnarsson of the new Odinic Rite Party. Should the emergency elections be called it is expected that Willa Sunbrek will replace Peter Knutsson as the Liberal blocks candidate.

KNUTSSON ALLOWED TO DIE

Posted Image

Head of the Longhouse Peter Knutsson died last night after a decision was made to end life support. His wife and children where by his bed side as he died. Doctors had earlier pronounced that there was no chance of him waking from his coma as they had identified no brain activity. It was only ventilators that where keeping him alive. His wife, Marissa, and two children , Anders (Aged 8) and Mary (Aged 12) flew into Dartfordia to be with him in his final hours. Doctors pronounced his death at 2:03am shortly after turning off the ventilators.

Peter was 46 years old and had been Head of the Longhouse for four years. He was born in Jaholm and grew up in a family that owned a bakery. His parents still own a small local cafe there. At the age of 18 he went to the Nordic Institute of Law where he gained a degree in Human Rights Laws. He then began work for the charity Mundus Amnesty International and campaigned in many countries and represented clients around the world in Human Rights cases. At the age of 36 he entered politics, first being a Member of the Riksdag and then Junior Minister for Justice. In 2008 he rose to prominence by instituting changes to the Constitution enshrining what had only been the tradition of public referendum into law. Upon the retirement of Guy Soldberg he took leadership of the Liberal Party and briefly became Deputy Prime Minister between 2009-2010. He stood for election to Head of the Longhouse in December 2010 winning 71% of the vote. In the last few months however he has grown more controversial as he has begun to distance himself from the party and been criticised for not being active enough internationally.

He married Marissa Thern at the age of 22. She was a press consultant for MAI.

With the death of Mr.Knutsson the Deputy of the Longhouse, Willa Sunbrek will be sworn in as Head for 90 days until Emergency elections take place. She is currently in Dartfordia at the Human Rights Conference, in a short message to the press she said, "Peter was ever commited to Human Rights having spent so long campaigning for them around the world. A fitting tribute to his life would be the establishment of this treaty." Meanwhile Marissa Knutsson has spoken to press saying "You can imagine this is a difficult time for me and my family. I ask the press to please respect our privacy. Peter was an amazing husband and father and I will never feel the same again, it is as though a part of me has died. I hope those responsible for his death, and that of the others, will be brought to justice."

THREE WAY RACE FOR NEW HEAD OF LONGHOUSE

Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image

The Riksdag has announced that the elections for the Head of Longhouse will take place at the end of June, much sooner than expected. To date three candidates have put forward their candidacy with the deadline being Friday. Willa Sunbrek (bottom) will run for the position with support from the more Liberal Parties, the current Deputy of the Longhouse is 31 years old and was expected to have succeed Peter Knutsson after the next election in 2019. She is currently in Dartfordia representing the UNP at the Human Rights conference.

Right Wing politician Ulf Joachim (top left) is thought to have support from Nord First and many other fringe groups. A former Member of the Riksdag he himself represented Nord First and was their first ever MR. The final candidate will be Kjetl Gunnarsson of the Odinic Rite Party (top right) and is thought to be the one gaining support rapidly with a mix of right wing moral centred politics.

Elections will be open for 48 hours, should a candidate not reach 51% of the vote their will be a run off between the top two. Debates will be taking place in the run up to the elections taking place and these will be televised nationaly.

CONTROVERSY OVER KNUTSSON FUNERAL

The body of the late Head of Longhouse Peter Knutsson arrived back in the UNP late last night accompanied by his wife and children. Controversy began soon after however as arrangements for the funeral where announced. Despite being an Odinist Mr.Knutsson will not be cremated, instead he will be buried alongside the ancestors of his Christian wife's family. For the last two years Mr.Knutson has faced claims by political opponents that he had turned his back on the State religion, however he always denied this.

It was expected that thousands of people would have attended the cremation however this will now not be possible. Mr.Knutsson's wife Marissa was not available for comment.

UNION OF NORDIC PEOPLE'S LARGEST EXPERIMENTAL ARCHAEOLOGICAL PROJECT TO LEAVE THE COUNTRY ON TOUR

Posted Image

In 2009 the Union of Nordic People built a 35 meter long replica of a Nordic Long Boat. The boat was built using only materials and equipment known to have been available 1000 years ago. The boat has been based in Krokom in Åland as a living museum ever since. The boat will leave Krokom and make its way to Portworth, East Moreland for the 17th July where it will be one of the main attractions of that nations Festival of Sail. The boat will then sit in dock for a month as a museum before returning back to Krokom. The vessel has undergone various sea trials to ensure that the boat will be able to make the voyage. Director of the Nordic Museum in Krokom said "We believe the ancient Nords, known to many as Vikings, could have made this voyage. We know have an opportunity to prove this." Many archaeologists point to Viking style artefacts that have been found in various countries around Mundus as evidence that our ancestors were much better travelled than we believe.

The boat will be escorted by the UNPNS Freja a modern UNP Frigate, this is also taking part in the festival in East Moreland and provide a safety escort to the Longboat which will be manned by 50 voulenteer re-eneactors from the museum.

KNUTSSON BODY STOLEN

Posted Image

Police have announced that the body of recently deceased Peter Knutsson has been stolen and was discovered in a clearing in woods on the edge of Uppsala. The body was dug up by a group calling themselves Gungnir and taken and burnt on a pyre in the middle of the woods. The woods are considered to be a ancient sacred grove and as such have much religious significance. The body was discovered with a note in which the group claimed responsibility stating that Knutssen deserved "a send off to Valhalla."

The crime comes just 12 hours after the funeral of Knutssen which caused controversy as he was buried in a Christian cemetery causing an uproar amongst many who believed that Knutsson was a devout Odinist and that his wife Marissa was imposing her beliefs on her deceased husband.

Police have asked anyone with information to contact them. Police have also not ruled out this new group Gungnir as being behind the attack on the Priest a fortnight ago.

TELEVISED DEBATE TO TAKE PLACE

The national broadcasting company NORDTV has released details of an upcoming debate between the three political leaders campaigning to be the new Head of the Longhouse. Willa Sunbrek, Ulf Joachim and Kjetel Gunnarsson will all take part in the debate to be hosted in Dorotea. NORDTV have opened up a section of their website asking for viewers to contribute questions.

NORD FIRST ELECTION HQ DESTROYED

Posted Image

Last evening the campaign headquarters of the Nord First political party was destroyed in an arson attack. Local police have evidence that supports the claim that a group of Christians carried out the attack, possibly in revenge for the attack on a Christian priest several weeks ago.

The fire brigade where alerted to the fire at around 10:15pm. When the arrived at the scene a fire had taken hold of the office destroying much of the parties campaign materials and computer systems. The fire was brought under control and no-one was injured during the fire because the headquarters was closed due to all staff attending the televised debate between candidates. Police collected evidence from inside the fire which included a crucifix placed on the wall where the Nord First staff say they had their Thor's amulet hanging. Graffiti saying "Burn in Hell's Fire" and "Pagan Scum" was found both inside and outside the office. Several leaflets belonging to the minority single interest party the Concordt of Christ were also found. Police are still studying CCTV footage from the incident and believe they may soon be able to release images of the suspects, one has already been identified as wearing a hoody bearing the logo of a Christian Faith Rock Band.

Leader of Nord First Ulf Joachim told us, "This now makes our campaign almost impossible. We've lost records of voters, valuable information we've collected, drafts of speeches, everything. We still intend to put up as good a fight as we can." he went on to say, "As a nationalist party we've always been victimised as people believe that we are facists and racists. That's not the case, we've never picked on anybody or attacked anyone, now the fact Christians are attacking us proves our opinion that the UNP is becoming watered down with foreign cultures. I however urge all members of my party to not retaliate, let the Police do their work and I'm confident we'll catch the culprits."

KJETEL GUNNARSSON AHEAD IN THE POLLS

Posted Image

After last nights televised debate Kjetel Gunnarsson of the Odinic Rite has taken a narrow lead in the polls. In a poll carried out twenty minutes after the debate finished 43% said they intended to vote for Gunnarsson, meanwhile 38% intend to vote for the Liberal coalition candidate Willa Sunbrek, the remaining 19% intend to vote for Ulf Joachim of the Nord First Party. It looks like the vote may be won on the people's 2nd preference vote which many experts believe gives the Odinic Rite the edge. Professor Grun of Uppsala University said "Clearly there is more in common between the Odinic Rite and Nord First, I would suspect the vast majority of Nord First voters will back the Odinic Rite with their 2nd vote, this will see Gunnarsson become Head of the Longhouse unless there is a major swing in the next few days

The nation goes to the polls on Wednesday with results due to be announced midday Thursday.

NEW HEAD OF LONGHOUSE SWORN IN

Posted Image

Kjetel Gunnarsson was sworn in today as the new Head of the Longhouse, his election comes after the death of Peter Knutsson during the Dartfordian bomb attack. The ceremony to swear in Gunnarsson took place outside the Riksdag. During the ceremony Gunnarsson took the oath of office while placing his hand on an amulet of Thor. He was supported during the oath taking by his wife Ruth and children Hans, Sven and Malin. This was the first election contested by the Union of Nordic People's newest political party the Odinic Rite.

In his inauguration speech Gunnarsson spoke of his hopes for his term in office, "I want to create a Union in which each person has the opportunity to live up to the virtues that the Gods gave us. We need to allow each person in the Union to be self sufficient, have opportunities to learn and develop skills and to have their families grow and flourish in safety." He also introduced a series of policies that will be voted on in the coming weeks. One of the first measures to be brought in will be elected police commissioners, these will be given oversight to set Police policy. Gunnarsson also plans to reverse the policies of the government that made Christianity part of Religious Education syllabus. Gunnarsson will also be using his powers to administer the nations tax system by removing tax exempt status from Christian Churches. Finally he plans on establishing links with other Nordic origin nations.

HUMAN RIGHTS TREATY PASSED

During the election for Head of Longhouse the referendum as to whether the Universal Human Rights Treaty would be brought into UNP law was carried out. The measure was adopted by 78% of the population and signed into law by Kjetel Gunnarsson as his first act as Head of the Longhouse.

The TV2N logo had been on the screen for an hour. Suddenly it cut to a man known by some as Tobias Ljung the Civilian Police Commissioner for Uppsala.

"People of the nation. The government have made promises to us all and they have failed to keep those promises. As a result we The Gungnir have taken action to ensure that the Union is kept pure for Odin. Several hours ago we took control of the capital. There is no need for you to worry. Those of you in Uppsala you will see black uniformed people patrolling the streets, these mean you no harm, you should aim to go about your life as normal. We have also taken action to enshrine a new nation, today we will become the Odinic Union of Nords. We will place the teaching of the Great Odin at the very centre of everything we do. We do this not for ourselves but for you and Odin. We need your support and I know you will do what is right.

For the time being I am taking control of the government, nothing will change for you, you will pay your taxes, the bins will be collected and schools will be open. We will however impose a curfew from 10pm until 5am. Should you work inside these hours you will be required to register with the local police. Everyone should keep their ID with them at all times. Anyone seen with a weapon on the street will be fired upon. We will hold elections for a new government within 3 months and return this nation to Odin.

Finally we will require all non-Odinists to register at their local police station within 48hours, failure to do so will result in immediate arrest and detention. Churches will be closed until further notice, Priests may not preach and the bible is now a banned book, anyone found possessing one will be arrested and placed in detention.

We will now return you to your scheduled broadcast.

STEADY START FOR TEAM NORD AT WINTER GAMES

Posted Image

The Union of Nordic People managed to secure two medals on the first day on the Winter Games. Helene Kruhl took an impressive gold in the Women's Giant Slalom with a winning margin of less than half a second. Meanwhile Joanna Blomqvist took silver in the Women's Super G missing out on gold by just 0.04 of a second behind the skier from Quinntopia. The two women showed much better performance than the Nord men who failed to reach the top eight in any of the skiing events. The poor mens performance continued in the Curling where the team lost both their matches, first to St. Monterrey and then to Tytor. The womens team however seemed in good form defeating Quinntopia and then Dominiscius. This leaves them on track to qualify from Pool B. One of the events the nation hopes to excel in is Ice Hockey and the mens team made an impressive start defeating Seaforth 5-3, the Viking's performed brilliantly on the ice, and later that evening the Valkyries dominated their match against Caelidia 4-0. Captain of the Valkyries Martha Jung was hopeful of a good performance, "So much modern hockey is based on confidence, whenever you can beat another international team 4-0 it boosts your confidence so much. We'll be going into our next match with belief that we can win and go all the way."

THE UNIONS LARGE HADRON COLLIDER TO GO LIVE TOMORROW

At 7am tomorrow morning the UNP's most ambitious science project will be turned on for the first time. The nations Large Hadron Collider has been completed 30km outside Jaholm and is now operational. The 25km long particle collider will allow scientists to explore some of the most advanced areas of physics. The project has been described by Professor Jan Medberg of Jaholm University as "perhaps the most ambitious science project to have ever taken place on our planet." The project is likely to draw interest from foreign nations scientists, something that Dr.Medberg is prepared for, "Frankly I'm suprised we haven't had any requests to come and share our research, when we announced this project we invited foreign scientists to come and work alongside us, to this date we've had no interest. Once the Collider is giving us data I'd expect that to change." He also hoped the project would help demonstrate the abilities of Nordic scientists, "We've begun to show the world we have great scientific minds here in the Union, we've created Project Icarus and that has spawned the Longboat Space Programme and the Centre for Nordic Exploration of Space. This will further rubber stamp our scientific credentials.

The process the LHC uses is quiet complex so we asked Dr.Medberg for a layman's explanation. "We'll basically create two beam of particles known as Hadron's, we fire them in opposite directions round the tube , close to the speed of light. That will create conditions we may never be able to create in any other way and be as close to the start of the Universe as possible. As these particles collide we observe what happens, we suspect many new particles will be created. These newly created particles may not have been seen since the birth of the Universe, as such they may help us understand more about those first moments in the Universe's existence. In our physics knowledge there are many gaps, these new particles may be those gaps and therefore expand our knowledge of the universe massively.

Despite the excitement from the scientific community there have been around ten protesters outside the facility calling the machine the "Doom Device." One of them Giselle Manheim said "They have no idea what will happen when they flick that switch tomorrow, who is to say these new particles won't poison us, or that it'll create a giant black hole. They should have let some other country build it first that way they could be pulled into the Black Hole not us." We then put these fears to Dr.Medberg, "Clearly there is no danger, all we are doing is recreating something that has already happened, it wasn't dangerous then, it won't be dangerous now."

UPPSALA LIBERATED BUT PRIME MINISTER MISSING

After almost a week of being under siege the city of Uppsala has been liberated from the control of the Gungnir. The short lived Odinist Union of Nords has ceased to exist as Union Defence Forces moved into the city at first light to reclaim the city from what has been prescribed as a terrorist organisation. The city erupted into savage fire fights as the Gungnir had anticipated that an attack was likely to come at some point. Details of the liberation are still being put together however it appears from speaking to residents of Uppsala that Defence Force soldiers sneaked into the city over the course of two nights and joined with armed civilians to retake the capital. These forces were supported by troops helicoptered into the city, however many of these never reached their targets as Gungnir positions armed with RPG's picked them off. During the battle Seaforth military personel sallied forth from the Embassy to lend support to the civilians and Defence Force engaged with the Gungnir.

As the sun went down the fighting became contained around the Riksdag which has seen its medieval bridges destroyed along with the old gatehouse. Eventually the Riksdag was retaken and Gungnir opposition halted. Their leader known as Tobias was killed during the retaking of the Riksdag, however several thousand members of the Gungnir have been arrested while an estimated 2,000 have fled into the countryside and will be pursued by Defence Forces, however it is expected they will not pose any future threat.

In the midst of the fighting one politician managed to get word to the outside world, Acting Head of the Longhouse Willa Sunbrek appears to have been part of the efforts to retake Uppsala and made an appearance on a radio transmittion that told the world of the attack, the message was heard all over Mundus. The elected Head of the Longhouse Kjetel Gunnarsson was one of those held captive in the Riksdag and is currently receiving medical treatment for a variety of injuries, it is unknown whether he will return to the position once released from hospital. Meanwhile Prime Minister Helene Oman is still missing leaving Foreign Minister Jessica Ernst as the most senior elected member of the government. Miss Ernst made a statement about the operation of the government, "As always the Riksdag and Longhouse represent this nation, as the most senior minister I will for the time being act as Prime Minister until such a time as Mrs.Oman is found or new elections called, meanwhile as runner up in the election Miss Sunbrek will remain as Acting Head of the Longhouse until Mr.Gunnarsson is fit to resume his duties. I ask all Nords to keep Mrs.Oman in there thoughts along with everyone else effected by the horrors inflicted by terrorists.

It is thought that around 7,500 people died during what many are referring to as either the Battle of Uppsala or the Battle for the Union. Around 3,500 people being held as hostages and human shields were freed. While the Riksdag is being repaired the government will be moving to Jaholm for meetings.

LHC GOES ACTIVE

The Large Hadron Collider outside Jaholm began operation today after what was in the circumstances a low key affair. After a short ceremony attended by Junior Science Minister Frederiksson the LHC was turned on and began the process of firing particles around the giant collider. It will take a number of weeks for it to get up to speed and start giving teams there data that they can use. The Minister said "Its an exciting time for Nordic Scientists, we've got the chance to do something no nation has ever done. I think this just goes to reaffirm our nations interest in improving the knowledge of science in the world and highlights the skill and inventiveness of the Nordic people. I am however disappointed more nations of the world have not shown an interest in what we're doing, but maybe once it starts to return results they'll change their mind."

UNP DEFENCE FORCE TO BE OVERHAULED

Following the liberation of Uppsala the Riksdag and the Longhouse have both agreed that the military needs to be vastly overhauled. "We were caught with our pants down so to speak, while we looked to keep ourselves defended we ignored the threat of internal enemies. Our military was woefully inadequate for modern urban warfare." said one member of the Longhouse.

The military will look to recruit and extra 8,000 members of the Defence Force, 1,000 more sailors and 1,000 more airmen, in addition the structure of the Defence Force will change. "We need to modernise our training and our command structure. We've sat back thinking our military can be neglected in favour of other projects hoping our neutrality will defend us, clearly that was not the case. We need better equipment and better training."

It is expected that once the issue of the government is solved budget increases will be approved allowing a programme of major military rebuilding in terms of equipment. "We have yet to rule out working alongside the militaries of other nations in terms of improving our military, there will be no military alliance and we will remain neutral, however there are nations out there whose experiences we can learn from."

Captain Hjolm of the Scouts Regiment spoke about the need for elite forces, "In Uppsala what became apparent was that regular infantry lacked the ability to think outside the box, to adapt to what was happening. That's not the soldiers faults, they fought bravely and many sacrficied their lives saving others, its our fault, the officers, all we ever did was prepare them for open field combat, we've leant the hard way that modern warfare isn't like that. A well trained commando element or specialist anti-terrorist unit could have made a major difference in Uppsala."

GUNNARSSON TO STAND DOWN

Head of Longhouse Kjetel Gunnarsson has announced today that he will resign the office as soon as a the whereabouts of Prime Minister Helene Oman is discovered. Mrs.Oman remains on the list of people missing following the Gungnir attack on Uppsala and Mr.Gunnarsson's resignation would leave the nation with no legally elected leader. "I will resign the moment that Mrs.Oman is discovered or elections can be called. I will not leave the Union rudderless. I have no intention to stand for re-election, I have shown I am too niave to have such high office at this time. I would urge Odinic Rite members to do two things, first give your support to Miss Willa Sunbrek, she has shown exceptional leadership and bravery in this crisis and I can think of no one better to lead our nation. Secondly I would urge anyone out there who knows of Gungnir members in hiding to hand them over, they are a blight on those of us who follow Odin and they should stand trial for their crimes." Mr.Gunnarsson is still in hospital where he is recovering from injuries.

WILLA SUNBREK UNOPPOSED IN HEAD OF LONGHOUSE ELECTION

Posted Image

As the deadline to register as a candidate in the new Head of Longhouse elections came Willa Sunbrek of the Liberal Alliance / Conservative Future coalition is the only candidate. The current acting Head of Longhouse Kjetel Gunnarsson announced his intention to resign the position following the Gungnir uprising, sparking the election. Mr. Gunnarsson also announced he had no intention of running for the position for "the considerable future" but did not rule out a return to politics. Meanwhile Lars Joachim the candidiate in the last election and leader of the Nords First Party said "I believe at this time my party need to take a long look at our policies, we supported the Odinic Rite last time and it had disasterous results, I couldn't in good faith run for this position.

Miss Sunbrek will now face the prospect of a referendum on her being given the job of Head of Longhouse, the question will simply be "Should Willa Sunbrek be our Head of Longhouse" she will require a majority Yes vote to secure the job. If successful Miss Sunbrek will, at the age of 32, become the youngest Head of Longhouse in the nations history. A protégé of the late Peter Knutsson she was expected to become a member of the Cabinet in 2015, however the assassination of Knutsson lead to her taking over the role as Acting Head of Longhouse and steering the UNP through the Human Rights Conference in Dartfordia. She was narrowly defeated in the election earlier in the year after Lars Joachim urged his supporters to back Gunnarsson in a run off with Sunbrek. During the Gungnir uprising she was part of the civil uprising in Uppsala that helped bring the crisis to a conclusion.

Our papers polls current place her approval rating at 78% so her successful election is all but secured.

Her last known location was inside the Riksdag two days before the assault, however she was not amongst those rescued or found dead inside the debating chamber. Eye witnesses claim that Mrs.Oman and her husband where taken from the debate chamber were approximately 80 people where being held as human shields, sometime the night before the attack. UPPSALA WELCOMES WORLD

Today the Union of Nordic People hosts its first ever international event. After weeks of drafting the Uppsala Convention aims to formally establish the rights and responsibilities of soldiers and those involved in combat zones. The timing of the event comes after troops from the Empire of Verover killed prisoners of War during an attempt to liberate the people of Safraen. While the conference was already planned this event has only highlighted the need for such a document. The new Head of Longhouse Willa Sunbrek will be greeting those attending and hopes to make the event a great success. "The nation of the UNP has experienced many issues, we ourselves saw the worst a combat zone has to offer and now we hope we can make such things part of history. The world signed the Human Rights Treaty however we still see horrid attrocities in war."

The document would establish a mechanism to bring to justice those accused of war crimes and establishes a procedure for such an event. "While we hope this document is never needed it has already been shown in Safraen the extreme lengths people will go to in pursuing political ideologies.

COUNCIL OF UNALIGNED NATIONS TO BE LAUNCHED

Posted Image

This morning the Head of Longhouse Willa Sunbrek welcomed delegates from a number of countries to Uppsala in order to try and establish the Council of Unaligned Nations (CUN). The organisation is only open to those nations who have not commited to one of the major power blocks such as the CSTO or CIS. The move comes following several incidents between rival power blocks that have ignited conflict and caused disruption to Mundus' stability. Foreign Minister Jan Krompkan was one of the authors of the proposed treaty and he spoke of his hopes, "We have these major alliances which seem to think that because they have many members they can simply ride rough shod over those of us who wish to retain our own independence and sovereignty. They seem to think that because nations like those represented here wish to shape our own futures rather than allow others to shape them that we can be ignored. The UNP has never fought a foreign war, never provoked another nation and yet we see those nations around us almost constantly at war. This is not good for our own safety and trade, by informally joining with like minded partners we believe we can have a collective voice to tell these larger alliances that we are not happy about the turmoil they are causing while at the same time maintaining our own independence. I also feel this treaty will see us forge closer links with other nations and that is always a bonus in our minds."

The charter will see, if successful, nations joining together to present their concerns and voices to larger alliances during times of crisis, while also promoting economic, political and cultural links between the members. Head of Longhouse Willa Sunbrek, was keen to point out that this would not drag the nation into foreign wars. "The treaty has been specifically written to not include a military aspect. We will maintain our stance of neutrality. However I fear if we do not do something like this we risk becoming isolated from world politics as the globe becomes more factional. I sincerely hope this Council can be a force for good, providing a neutral faction that is neither pro CIS/CSTO nor pro Warsaw."

FORMER PRIME MINISTER HELENE OMAN'S REMAINS FOUND

In a shock find yesterday police investigating the crimes of the Gungnir in their uprising discovered the body of former Prime Minister Helene Oman. While Police were keen to point out they are still investigating they did confirm that they found a total of 21 bodies buried in woodland just outside Uppsala, each of them executed by a close range shot to the back of the head. "It will take us many days to respectfully retrieve and then identify the bodies, we ask the public to be patient during that time."

72 people are still missing following the Gungnir uprising, many presumed to have been executed in the final hours. With the death of the Prime Minister confirmed Hans Vilke, the deputy Prime Minister will now officially assume her role. It is however he will call for an official vote from within his Liberal First party. "It is important that we ensure going forward we have the correct leader that has the support of the party." Mr.Vilke told a press conference, "however any thoughts on that will be put to one side for the time being, first we must mourn the loss of an outstanding national servent who selflessly worked for the betterment of the Union. I will miss working with her and her friendship."

HEAD OF LONGHOUSE IN SCANDAL

Head of Longhouse Miss Willa Sunbrek yesterday sparked a political scandal as she was named in the divorce of celebrity couple Marcus Holmst and his wife Krista. The football star filed papers at a court in Uppsala in which he claims his wife of four years was having an affair with the Head of Longhouse. Miss Sunbrek was a key campaigner in introducing same sex marriage into the Union last year and her passionate speeches lead to speculation about her own sexuality, however in interviews she has long held the line of her private life is her private life and has no bearing on her role. Meanwhile Krista Holmst, who has recently begun reusing her maiden name Rosendahl has been openly bisexual since bursting onto the UNP film scene at the age of 17. Neither of the two have yet made comments on the accusation.

It is believed that the two may have meet during the campaign to bring about same sex marriage and a fellow campaigner described them as "Very close". Krista, aged 26, meet her husband Marcus during the filming of a TV advert for a popular perfume and aftershave company for which they were both spokesmodels. The two have had what always appears to be a close loving relationship and their split four months ago caused a shock amongst the media.

Marcus Holmst lawyer released a statement on his behalf, "My client has been what he considers a good husband throughout their marriage, he is deeply devoted to his wife but after discovering her relationship with Miss Sunbrek feels that the marriage is over and that a divorce as quickly as possible would be best all round."

The scandal is likely to see Miss Sunbrek face some questions in the Longhouse on Friday when she takes Open Questions, however it is thought she will reaffirm her view that her private life is her own business.

KRISTA ROSENDAHL RECEIVES DEATH THREATS

Following the announcement yesterday that celebrity couple footballer Marcus Holmst and his actress wife Krista Rosendahl are to divorce, the actress has received several death threats on Twitter. The first appeared to come from an account of a fan of Uppsala F.C, the club at which Marcus Holmst is a first team regular, the account from UppsalaUltra made several threats to kidnap and murder the actress before the user was suspended. In total 36 accounts have now been deactivated following threats made to Krista Rosendahl.

Head of Longhouse Willa Sunbrek also received the attention of trolls, government security agents visited four addresses throughout the Union after anti-gay rights groups made threats against her following the Head of Longhouse being named by Marcus Holmst as having an affair with his wife. Miss Sunbrek has again refused to comment on the issue of her sexuality stating simply, "My job is to run the country, what I do in my private life is my own business, in the same way that we do not interfere in the private lives of our citizens I expect the same courtesy to be extended to me."

The lawyer of Mr.Holmst served the papers to Miss Sunbrek today as she entered the Riksdag and the Head merely handed them to a PA. It is expected that the divorce hearing will be heard next week in a fast track application.

WILLA SUNBREK GIVEN VOTE OF CONFIDENCE

The Riksdag today passed a vote of confidence in Head of Longhouse Willa Sunbrek, the motion carried 371-16 after being put to vote during a day in which back benchers can propose actions. Miss Sunbrek's position has been underfire in recent days following being named in a divorce as having had an affair with a married women. The Prime Minister Arnór Frederiksen who is also a member of the Nordic Centre Party said, "Miss Sunbrek has been a superb leader for our nation, she placed her own personal safety at stake to ensure the Gungnir Coup failed and has seen our nation safe through difficult times, the fact people can doubt her amazes me."

Meanwhile Lars Ulman, leader of the UNP Socialist Party, said "I voted against giving her my support, while I believe she has done an outstanding job in the past she is essentially our moral compass, sleeping with another man's wife is not morally acceptable and therefore I feel she should step aside."

Miss Sunbrek has so far refused to comment on the allegations, however with Krista Rosendahl expected to appear in divorce court on Monday it is becoming more likely that a statement will have to be made.

In related news two men where arrested and charged yesterday evening for making threats to kill Miss Rosendahl over Twitter.

REINDEER CULL NEEDED
Posted Image

Around 2,500 Reindeer will be culled in the coming week after a study showed the animals are far over populated. A study from the Department of Rural Affairs suggests that areas of grassland and forest will be damaged by the animals and that an expected harsh winter will see several hundred starve and die in agony.

"We have not taken this decision lightly, the Reindeer is a beautiful majestic creature, however for the good of the ecosystem we need to keep them under control or we face long term damage." In recent years several thousand domesticated Reindeer have escaped farms in Dorotea and this has pushed the numbers upwards. It is expected that the cull will see prices paid for Reindeer plummet across Mundus.

PROJECT LONGBOAT LAUNCHED

Late last night the first Project Longboat probe was launched from Dorotea. The project is a follow up from Project Icarus and will see the information gathered mapping solar winds used to try and show that they can be a viable form of inter stellar travel.

A probe was placed into a trajectory towards Ma'lia, solar panels on top of the disc like probe will provide charge for a mapping system. Once the probe has completed several orbits and sent data back to Mundus the probe will use Ma'lia as a slingshot to aim back towards home. At that point the probe will open and reveal a solar sail which will provide charge for the onboard systems. The project has but will not use an electric ion drive used by many probes as it is hoped that the solar sails will provide the propulsion needed to regain a Mundus orbit.

The probe will re-enter Mundus orbit and complete several orbits with the sails deployed to investigate what happens to these parts during a planetary orbit. Once these are completed the ion drive will be activated to have the probe re-enter the atmosphere and splash down in the Sea of Kyne. A spokesman from the Nordic Science Institute said "We've advanced warned shipping and as the splash down day gets closer we will update the situation."

KRISTA ROSENDAHL APPEARS IN COURT

The actress Krista Rosendahl appeared in divorce court today. A judge heard from her estranged husband of his belief that his wife of four years had been having an affair with the current Head of Longhouse Willa Sunbrek. During the proceedings Krista confirmed that she was bisexual, and had been involved with another woman, she however refused to name the individual. It is believed that Krista hoped by admitting the affair it will speed up the process and spare the partner the need to appear in court. However as Marcus Holst produced evidence which he claims proves it was Willa Sunbrek the judge has called for her to attend court tomorrow. This will mark the first time a serving Head of Longhouse has appeared in a court case.

WILLA SUNBREK COMES CLEAN ABOUT "AFFAIR"

Today on the steps of Uppsala High Court the Head of Longhouse Willa Sunbrek made an announcement following the divorce of Krista Rosendahl and Marcus Holmst. With Miss Rosendahl on her way to a overseas trip she was not in court to hear the judge announce her marriage to be legally finished. Miss SUnbrek however was in court as she had earlier appeared as the individual named in an affair. While in front of the judge she was asked directly if she had been having sexual relations with the 26 year old actress, to which Miss Sunbrek responded with, "Myself and Krista are in a loving relationship. That is all I will say on our situation" That was enough for the judge to rule that Krista had commited adultery and grant Mr.Holst his divorce.

Leaving court the UNP playmaker said "I'm clearly disappointed that it has ended this way, I will always have feelings for Krista but the world needed to know what happened, we've often see in divorces involving professional footballers rumours of us being unfaithful and I didn't want my good name dragging through the mud. I wish Krista all the best, regardless of who she is with."

Moments later the Head of Longhouse left the court building and made a short statement. "For the last two years myself and Krista Rosendahl have been in a relationship. We are very much in love and didn't intend to cause this much damage to Marcus Holst, I can only apologise to him for the hurt and distress I have caused. I also apologise to the citizens of the Union, not for being a gay woman as some organisations have claimed I should be apologising for, however I apologise for breeching the trust of being a moral guardian, I understand adultery is a immoral act and I will be doing all I can to show Odin and the people I will make a mends for my actions. In the coming days Krista will be moving into the Longhouse Accomodation and I will be presenting her as the "First Lady of the Union" at our next state function, we live in the 21st Century and people need to accept that members of the LGBT community should not be denied an oppurtunity to make great contributions to their nations and the world because of their differences to what some bigots consider "The norm". I hope I can rely on the support of the nation in this matter as I have always enjoyed in the past, Krista is and will continue to be an excellent ambassador for the Union promoting our culture, creativity and decent human nature around Mundus, long may this continue. I hope this statement draws a line under all the rumours and we can return to focusing on the running of the Union."

LONGBOAT ONE REACHES MA'LIA

Posted Image

The solar sailed powered probe named Longboat 1 today sent back its first photos from Ma'lia. The probe is expected to make several orbital passes taking images and readings before firing a small engine to break orbit. At that point the probe will be put into a small spin and unfurl solar sails which will be designed to use solar sails to bring the probe back into a Mundus orbit. A spokesman for the Nordic Space Programme said "This is a very exciting moment for us, we've seen images produced by other probes but to actually see a picture sent back by a probe you've invested so much time and effort from your life in, well its an incredible feeling."

It is expected that the Longboat probe will send back around 100 pictures from three orbits after which it will begin the journey back home. "This project also allows us to test our ability to return objects, clearly thats vital if we ever hope to send a Nord into space. Our intention is to do just that one day, and we clearly don't want a one way trip." The project has broken new ground in the fact that it will use solar sails, should these prove successful they could present an option for propulsion for long term missions beyond our own solar system. As with all Nordic Space projects the research will be made globally avaliable.

NORDWIND 520 HIJACKED

Posted Image

Nordwind Flight 520 has been hijacked by members of the Gungnir terrorist group. The exact circumstances are yet to be confirmed however the aircraft was forced to land in Dartfordia and is currently at Sisko airport. Early reports suggest that two passengers have been killed by the terrorists who moments ago released demands to the nations of the passengers while most nations are asked to pay $100,000 per civilians it appears several high profile individuals where on board and that they are being ransomed for a much higher fee. Defence Analyst Daniel Hahnsson believes this is an attempt to remove passengers from the equation, "The ransom is very low for a situation like this, I believe the Gungnir are trying to remove passengers of nations they see as irrelevant to them and at the same time perhaps raise funds for new weaponry and attacks. Nations paying around $500,000 is very little to them, I suspect some nations may pay just to get their citizens back, but $500,000 to the Gungnir could fund their operation for decades, they clearly hope the non-Nordic nations will see this as not their problem."

Meanwhile several nations have been asked to release prisoners from terrorist organisations, East Moreland have been instructed to release Borlanders on a ration of 2 prisoners per hostage, as have Rokkenjima and Dyfedia. "I believe the Gungnir are perhaps trying to curry favour with other terrorist organisations around the globe in hopes of mutual support, I can understand the Gungnir seeing these organisation as "kindred spirits" and therefore trying to forge a kind of global alliance of terror." added Hahnsson.

The UNP passengers have had the highest demands placed, effectively demanding the establishment of the Odinist Union of Nords and a cleansing of non Odinists from government.

As of yet no response has been heard from any nation.

Amongst the more high profile hostages is the lover of the Head of Longhouse Willa Sunbrek. The actress Krista Rosendahl was travelling to a filming when the aircraft was taken.

Posted Image

Hahnsson suggests this may see Miss Sunbrek removed from the handling of this situation as she will be emotionally involved, should that happen then Minister of Defence Ragnar Hermansen is likely to lead any UNP negotiations.

GUNGNIR RELEASE 35 HOSTAGES

Posted Image

In a surprise move the Gungnir released 35 hostages from a variety of nations. Flight520 was hijacked by the Gungnir who demanded payment for the release of most hostages while several nations faced demands to release people convicted of terror offences. So far no nation has agreed to the exchange of either cash or prisoners, however Ostenvolker have paid the Gungnir for the release of 35 of those being held hostage, this was an apparent "Humanitarian" move, however several officials from nations with citizens onboard have criticised the move.

Ragnar Hermansen, Minister of Defence criticised the move "By paying this money we will see the Gungnir better armed and equipped, this will lead to further attacks like this and next time the Ostenvolker may find their citizens caught in the middle. I am delighted the rest of the world seems to be singing from the same hymn sheet on this as a global response is the only way to respond to terrorism."

It is believed that a group of Mjölnir operatives have been dispatched to Dartfordia to help deal with the crisis, however Minister Hermansen refused to confirm this saying "Mjölnir movements and operations are naturally classified information"

DARTFORDIAN ROYAL CRITICISES HEAD OF LONGHOUSE

In a recent interview with a Dartfordian media source the Prince of Littlebrook and Emperor of Rokkenjima said " I'm very disappointed in her" in regard to her affair with actress Krista Rosendahl. The comment came as he was speaking about the recent confirmation that Willa Sunbrek had a two year affair with the actress, who is currently a hostage of the Gungnir. As she answered questions in her weekly press conference Willa Sunbrek was asked what he response to this interview was.

"Frankly I find the timing of his comments a little insensitive, as we see almost 100 of my country folk being held hostage, Krista amongst them, I thought it would be more appropriate to focus on that situation rather than my love life. I have around 10 years involvement in politics and throughout that time I have always tried to maintain the stance that my private life is exactly that private. The Prince is clearly free to say what his opinion of me is, but until he finds himself a registered voter in the U.N.P. his opinion of me is of no concern. I have more important things to worry about , such as running a country and hoping the woman I love doesn't get murdered by terrorists, therefore the comments of a Dartfordian royal don't really weigh on my mind."

GOVERNMENT SUPPORT FOR SUNBREK

Posted Image

Several members of the cabinet and Riskdag have come out in support of Head of Longhouse Willa Sunbrek following further criticism of her private life, this time from Empress of Rokkenjima Beatrice Anselmo. This comes following criticism earlier from her husband Alex Anselmo, Prince of Littlebrook and Emperor of Rokkenjima.

The first member of the cabinet to come out in support of the Head of Longhouse was Foreign Minister Birgit Strand. In a statement made in response to a question at a diplomatic function Miss Strand said, "I am at a loss to explain why Rokkenjima or Dartfordia feel the need to be drawn into making any statement about the private life of our Head of Longhouse. As a couple who have been in the limelight for quiet some time and have themselves been the focus of some quiet hurtful press comments I would have thought they would have known better than engage in ideal gossip with the media."

Meanwhile Deputy Prime Minister Ruth Voll of the People's Right Party said "Willa Sunbrek has been an amazing leader for our nation, the comments from Rokkenjima and Dartfordia do nothing to change that and as such I am at a loss to understand why they would feel the need to undermine our leadership."

Meanwhile having made a statement earlier Willa Sunbrek reinforced her position. "I am amazed that two world leaders have nothing better to do than discuss their opinions of a relationship that has no impact on them or their nation, I know personally I have much more important things to be doing than dealing with pointless tabloid gossip. As I said with regard to Emperor Alex Anselmo, once Empress Beatrice is registered to vote in the Union I'll become concerned with her approval of me."

Meanwhile leader of the UNP Socalist Party Klaus Hossen was worried about the diplomatic situation. "We now have seen how two prominent world leaders have lost respect for Miss Sunbrek. I believe that her position is becoming untenable and that she should step down, we have seen how her private life has already compromised her role in Flight 520, surely her ability to run the country has also been. My worries are also how will the relationship between the Union and nations like Rokkenjima and Dartfordia be harmed, these are two of the more liberal nations on Mundus and if they are criticising our leader I don't hold out much hope."

Miss Sunbrek's approval rating has slipped from a massive 78%, following her election in the wake of the Gungnir attempt to take over Uppsala, to 61% following the recent events.

PRINCE ALEXANDER ATTEMPTS TO CLARIFY VIEW ON HEAD OF LONGHOUSE

Posted Image

In a further statement released by the Dartfordian Prince Alexander he attempts to clarify his position on Willa Sunbrek. After praising the current Head of Longhouse he went on to say " I felt compelled to note my discontent at the revelation that she had spent a whole two years in a romantic relationship with a married woman." before saying "this does not, however, undermine her position or authority as Head of the Longhouse" The further comments come at a time when the Union of Nordic People finds itself in the middle of a hostage situation located in Dartfordia and criticism of the Prince's words from members of both the Riksdag and Longhouse..

Willa Sunbrek was again asked about these statements, "The Prince is a man I have not formally meet yet in my duties as Head of Longhouse, as he has no impact on our policies either domestic or international his opinion of me is not a concern. As I have stated I am answerable to the citizens of The Union not some foreign Prince."

The Prince's statement came as he also addressed Dartfordia's relationship with Seaforth. Leader of the Nord First Party Lars Ulfsen spoke in defence of Miss Sunbrek, "While our parties have major disagreements on policy Miss Sunbrek is an outstanding member of our government. With the Prince seeming to need to say Miss Sunbrek's authority has not been undermined I am beginning to see why the King of Seaforth refers to Alex as the Little Emperor, he seems to think his views on our leaders are important, however Miss Sunbrek received very strong backing from both Riksdag and Longhouse as soon as the story broke. Thankfully we need not worry about his opinion as he is neither responsible for the policies of his native Dartfordia or his wife's Rokkenjima."

Miss Sunbrek's close personal friend and foreign minister Birgit Strand brushed away the comments. "The Prince praised Willa before repeating his criticism. I think perhaps he should consider the fact that Willa has the full support of the Riksdag, Longhouse and the Union's voters, the people who actually matter in this."

YULE CELEBRATIONS BEGIN IN UPPSALA

Posted Image

Traditional festivities to mark the beginning of the Yule festival have begun in Uppsala with a massive lantern light boat parade. The festival will last the next 12 days and end with the Feast of Frey in Dorotea. As tens of thousands of people lined the streets with their flaming torches religious leaders lead people in prayer as boats built by local shrines, spearbands, schools and universities were carried past the Riksdag to the harbour. There they were set a light with offerings placed in each boat.

This year however the opening speech was not given by the Head of the Longhouse. With a shadow cast over the festivities by the hijacking of a Nordwind Flight by the Gungnir, an event in which Willa Sunbrek's partner Krista Rosendahl is tied up in, the opening speech was instead given by Prime Minister Arnór Frederiksen.

Yule Festival Opening

Today marks the day on which the great hunt of Odin began, a hunt that sought to provide him with sustenance through the dark winter that is ahead. At this point we too look for strength to sustain us through difficult days. While we give thanks to Odin for all that we have almost one hundred of our kin sit aboard an aircraft in Dartfordia their very lives hanging in the balance at a whim of a group of mad men.

I call on all Odinist's, regardless of nationality, to show the world the true manner of our faith. This festival today should be a symbol of that faith, the Gungnir are the darkness, it is our duty to ensure the light of true Odinism shines out of this. To do this we must demonstrate the tenants Odin asked upon us, strength, bravery, resilience and persistence. While we feast upon the goats sacrificed at this festival let us ensure a portion is given to those in hunger, a beaker of mead is left for those who thirst and a warm place by the fire for those that are cold. That is true Odinism.

I call upon all who hear this to pray for the safe return of all those onboard the airplane in Dartfordia, to pray for those attempting to free them and finally to pray for our Head of Longhouse who I am confident will guide us through these difficulties.

MINISTER OF DEFENCE CONFIRMS FORCES IN DARTFORDIA

Minister of Defence Ragnar Hermansen today confirmed that the Union of Nordic People had deployed military assets to Dartfordia in response to the recent hijacking. In an interview with the media he said "I can confirm that after discussions and co-operation with local commanders we have sent assets to Dartfordia to support the on going situation there. The aircraft is on Dartfordian sovereign territory and we will therefore bow to their final judgement on how to proceed, however we would be neglecting our duty of care to our citizens if we did not have some input into the decision making process."

Mr. Hermansen refused to confirm whether The Mjölnir had been deployed to Dartfordia stating that the newly formed unit's movements were a closely guarded piece of information in the interest of "National Security". The Mjölnir where formed after the Uppsala Coup attempt by the Gungnir showed a need for an elite commando force, the unit was put together from members of specialist units such as the Parachute Regiment and Nordic Marines before being partly trained by East Moreland's Red Legion.

NORDWIND HOSTAGES FREED

Posted Image

Moments ago Ragnar Hermansen, Minister of Defence announced that the Union of Nordic People's elite commando unit The Mjölnir had successfully stormed the plane hijacked by the Gungnir several days ago. In a statement broadcast live on Riksdag TV he stated that all of the Gungnir had been killed and five of the hostages wounded. While not giving away specifics of the operation it would appear that just prior to a deadline for the execution of a hostage several teams of Mjölnir stormed the aircraft and engaged in a brief fire fight with the terrorist.

Mr. Hermansen's statement went on to criticise the nations that had paid money to the Gungnir, to date just Ostenvolker is known to have paid a ransom despite having no hostages on board. The Ostenvolker Fuhrer stated that it was a move designed to save lives. The ransom payment however flies in the face of the UNP policy of non negotiation with the Gungnir. F.C Pretoria also came in for criticism by the Minister, it is believed that they paid a multi-million dollar ransom for John Ronaldo, one of their star players, after it was announced he was onboard the aircraft. Mr. Hermansen announced that the Transvaal club would be banned from playing in the UNP and not be allowed any involvement in football within the Union. It is believed that Ronaldo had been visiting the Union as part of a coaching course.

Meanwhile precise details of Krista Rosendahl's status have not been released other than that she is wounded but not critical. In his statement the Minister of Defence said he would not be giving out specific details as he believed she was "no more or less important than the other Nords onboard that aircraft." It is expected that the hostages will be returned home within 48 hours.

UPPSALA TO HOLD WORLDS BIGGEST PRIDE EVENT

Posted Image

In just a few short weeks time the city of Uppsala will play host to the worlds largest ever Pride festival. The city has previously hosted the Uppsala Pride annual event, however the Minister Rita Amundsen from the Department of Culture, Media and Sport took the decision to this year invite the whole of Mundus to the event. Mundus Pride 2015 is hoped to have become an annual event aimed at promoting LGBT rights around the world as well as allowing members of the LGBT community to take part in a wide range of events, including several sporting competitions.

The event will be opened by Head of Longhouse Willa Sunbrek, who recently confirmed that she is in a same sex relationship with openly bisexual actress Krista Rosendahl. The event will also see several world leaders attending, including Empress Beatrice Anselmo and her husband Emperor Alex Anselmo, both of whom criticised Miss Sunbreks two year affair with the actress. Several visiting dignatries are also expected to give speeches during the event, some of these have been labelled by members of the LGBT Rights Charity Stenmur as being "controversial" , these include the Emperor Constantine of Transvaal who is expected to give a speech entitled " Seeing the Perspective of the Oppressor"

The event will also feature a music festival which will be headlined by Muse and Mentallica, the city expects to host around 300,000 visitors during the event from all over Mundus.

LONGBOAT PROBE SUCCESSFULLY RECOVERED

The first Project Longboat probe has successfully been recovered by the Union of Nordic People's Navy. The probe has been the first to successfully orbit another planet and return to Mundus using only solar winds. Professor Kahlberg of the Nordic Space programme said "We are delighted this has n successful, we have another launch designed to target the outer reaches of our solar system in the coming months, however it is still our ambition to send a Nord into space in a Union built vessel."

The probe will now go through a series of decontamination procedures before being placed on display in the Sauli Museum of Science and Technology.

LONGBOAT 2 LAUNCHED

Posted Image

The second of the three Longboat space probes was today launched from Jaholm in the Union of Nordic People. The launch was made at 4am and mission control confirmed soon after that the probe had successfully been put on a trajectory towards Nabu. The probe will complete two orbits of the planet before deploying it's solar and using the solar winds as a means of propulsion and electricity generation. Unlike Longboat 1 the probe will bypass Mundus and head out of the solar system carrying a series of specialist equipment with it.

The project seeks to build on the success of Longboat 1 and Project Icarus by attempting to map the effects of solar winds outside of the solar system. Dr.Kahlberg of the Nordic Space programme said "The potential for using these solar winds is as of yet unknown, however many scientists have a theory that they could be used as a means of accelerating an object over a sustained period allowing economic travel between planets. At the moment it's just a theory and Longboat 2 will test that."

Should Longboat 2 be successful Longboat 3 will be launched with the intention of landing on Luna before returning to Mundus two days later. This would be the first landing by a Nordic built project on a astral body. It is thought that should Longboat 3 be successful then a manned mission to Luna would be green lighted by the government shortly after.

ODINIC RITE LAUNCH COUNTER RADICALISM CAMPAIGN

Leader of the Odinic Rite political party Kjetel Gunnarsson today announced the launch of his parties latest youth initiative known as the Odinist Initiative. The aim of the project is to end the radicalisation of young people by organisations such as the Gungnir. Speaking at it's launch at a shrine in Dorotea Mr.Gunnarsson said, "As a Gothi of Odinism I am sickened every time I think of the vile crimes the Gungnir have done in the name of my faith. So many youngsters rightly see the promise of the faith, yet become corrupted when they get around the bad influence of members of the Gungnir. It is the aim of this project to give young Odinists opportunities to progress in life and surround themselves with positive role models."

The project has been supported by many Ministers and celebrities. 13 of the 14 UNP Premier League football clubs have signed up to the project, the exception being St. Bartholomew's, a club that has always recruited players from Uppsala's small Christian community or signed Christian players from overseas, however their manager Clint Mason said, "While clearly a Christian club would not be able to provide the positive Odinist role models that the project seeks we wish it every success and we'll do all we can to support it's aims"

Meanwhile Mr.Gunnarsson also spoke of hoping to improve the image of the faith globally. "So far the world has only seen two cases of Odinist's expressing their belief, sadly both these examples have been from the misinformed Gungnir, we have to change that for the good of Odinists everywhere." He then pointed to Pride as being a key opportunity. "Mundus Pride is clearly showing the fantastic Nordic hospitality that Odinists are committed to showing all people regardless of race, religion, sexuality or gender. The festival has been a fantastic site and I hope its the first of many."

LONGBOAT 2 REACHES NABU

Posted Image

This morning scientists involved in Longboat 2 released the probes first images of the planet Nabu. These images are much clearer than those produced by Project Icarus and have enabled scientists to clearly map many of the planets craters. The probe will complete one more orbit of the planet before firing a small ion drive engine and then unfurling its solar sails to bring the probe back towards Mundus where it will continue out towards the extremities of the solar system before scientists see the effects of the solar winds once they leave and head into deep space. Once at the edge of the solar system the ion drive will be shut down and the probe propelled only by the sails in an effort to validate the possibility of using this technology as a means of propulsion for larger projects.

LHC FINDS NEW ELEMENT

The Large Hadron Collider outside Sauli yesterday discovered a never before seen element. The new discovery lasted just 0.033 seconds but was evident on several occasions. Scientists named the new element UNPordium. Dr. Gravan Karston made the announcement and then proceeded to say, "In practical terms at the moment its completely pointless, the element can't be used for anything but it may in future help us make other discoveries of more value to the human race. It's also pretty cool that our nation now has an element named after us" the team unveiled a new periodic table in what was a light hearted press briefing.

Junior Science Minister Olaf Gunnar remarked, "While this discovery in itself is not substantial it shows that as the LHC picks up more speed we will make new discoveries and I'm excited to see what else comes in the coming years." At the moment the LHC is running at 80% speed and is expected to reach full speed in three months time

KRISTA ROSENDAHL RESPONSE TO LEAK TAPE

Following the release by the Seaforth Catholic Church of recording of a conversation between members of the Rokkenjiman government and Emperor Alex Anselmo their criticism of actress Krista Rosendahl and Head of Longhouse Willa Sunbrek has resurfaced. During an interview to promote her latest film release the Nordic actress was asked about her reaction to the tape.

"First may I say that I find the fact that any organisation would carry out such an invasion of privacy horrific. However the Rokkenjiman Broadcasting Corporation seem to think this is something worth reporting, however seeing as neither Beatrice and Alex Anselmo are my monarch I really couldn't care less of their opinion of me." the actress was then asked about her opinion on how the incident may effect relations between Dartfordia/Rokkenjima and the Union. "I believe the Union is very unlikely to stop talking with the governments of these two nations over some words about an actress. I think what the tape does is make any future talks between the nations more awkward if they involve Willa however she's experienced enough to probably allow Foreign Minister Strand to take over such talks as to avoid that." She concluded by saying "What has surprised me most about this whole incident is that as a high profile couple I suspect they have had their own fair share of tabloid gossip and media talk about their relationship, I would expect they would fell disappointed if another world leader had made comments about them in this manner, yet it surprises me that a man with the experience of Alex allows himself to be drawn into such a situation, however as we have all seen he does have a track record of putting his foot in it so to speak."

Head of Longhouse Willa Sunbrek is currently in Rokkenjima at the Commonwealth Treaty Organisation talks, her press secretary said she would be unavailable for comment but would "be focused on getting the best outcome for the Union rather than worrying about the opinions of the Anselmo's about her."

NATION CELEBRATES DISTING FESTIVAL

As the winter days begin to lengthen the nation took to the streets for the traditional Imbolc Festival. Hundreds of thousands of people crowded the streets of Uppsala for a fire light parade. Households made bundles of wood and carried them through the streets to the city centre where a large pine tree had been erected in front of the Riksdag. The bundles where collected and placed around the tree. Music played and ale flowed as the crowds danced into the early hours.

At midnight U.N.P. Ice Hockey star Rasmus Eriksson was invited to plough the ceremonial first furrow on the Riksdag lawn. Pushing a large traditional plough pulled by oxen he made a furrow some 25 meters long which will now be planted with flowers. Gothi Ruben Carlsson said "Rasmus did a good job, traditionally the furrow has been seen as a portence for the year to come, this one was long, straight and deep, an indicator of good things to come" meanwhile the record appearance holder for the UNP national team said "Its the most pressure I've ever had on me, at least the Oxen played fair."

The ceremony marks the time when people began to return to the fields following the dark winter months.

SECURITY INCIDENT AT LHC

There was a breach of security today at the nations Large Hadron Collider, the only facility of it's kind in Mundus. The LHC has recently begun giving tours of their facility to schools, universities and members of the public as a way of increasing the interest in physics and science across the Union. During one of the tours a member of the public slipped away from the official party and was discovered in one of the cooling system rooms. Gustav Rathmaus, a security spokesman for LHC said, "The individual was spotted entering a restricted area on CCTV after they appeared to have picked a lock, a security team was dispatched to apprehend them and they were detained and handed over to local police."

Chief of Dorotea Police Miss Helena Kristof said "We have in custody a 28 year old woman who we are interviewing regarding several alleged crimes, we will release more details as we have them."

The LHC project has come under scrutiny several times in the past, first because of the misguided belief that turning on the LHC would create a black hole, to people believing that the project is a monetary black hole. More recently after the discovery of a new shortlife element known as UNPordium some members of the Christian organisation NordChrist have accused the project of being an "abomination of God's World" While it is yet to be confirmed whether this person is a member of that organisation the group has in the past stated they will "Turn off this evil machine"

The LHC will be slowed down for several weeks as any potential damage is assessed. This has come at a time that sceintists were about to turn the LHC up to full speed.

LHC BEGINS RUN UP TO FULL SPEED

Following last weeks security breach the LHC in Dorotea has been given the all clear and is due to begin moves to reach full speed. The LHC has already discovered several short lived particles and as the speed increases it is expected to discover many more new particles. Experts suspect these will come quiet quickly once the LHC reaches it's full speed.

Dr. Ravesson of the LHC project explained, "There are several particles we know exist, they must do for our Universe to function the way it does, the issue being they are so short lived and so rare they would be almost impossible to find in the natural exploration of physics. The LHC allows us to gradually alter the conditions so that we stand a favourable chance of discovering them. It's a very exciting time in physics."

Meanwhile Rokkenjima have announced their own Hadron Collider project. Dr.Ravesson spoke about this, "We are always happy to see nations invest in science research, in my view there can never be enough, we do find it odd however that despite our offers to the world nobody took us up on offers to come and join our teams here, however we still extend an open invitation, should the Rokkenjiman teams want to come and gain experience working on ours before their own opens then they'd be welcome. We don't see them as rivals rather as potential comrades in physics."

MARCUS HOLMST CAREER MAY BE OVER

Uppsala FK playmaker Marcus Holmst suffered a horrific injury in the 78th minute of a crucial league game against Jaholm 35 yesterday. As his team lead 1-0 and with Jaholm chasing the game the 27 year old stretched to make a crucial tackle on an already off balance Sven Grusson. The Jaholm striker then fell awkwardly on Holmst leg causing a dislocated knee and fractured lower leg. It is also suspected that Holmst has suffered damage to his ligaments. The game was delayed for ten minutes while medical teams treated him on the pitch before taking him straight to hospital.

The ex-husband of actress Krista Rosendahl is one of the UNP's most capped players having played 62 times for his country. He had also recently signed a new three year contract with Uppsala who currently lie in 2nd place in the UNP Championship. His manager Curtis Deimann visited him in hospital after the game, "It's one of the worst injuries I've ever seen in a game, the doctors think at best he'll be out for over a year and that's if he's ever the same." Meanwhile Deimann spoke of his sympathy for Grusson, "Sven's a young lad with a bright future, you could see how upset he was straight away, it was an accident, one of those things. I hope he can somehow put this at the back of his mind and keep up his top performances. I know Holmst wouldn't be blaming him for what happened and I hope he can accept that."

Nya Åland Prepare for Referendum

The Nya Åland political movement is gearing up to begin their campaign for the latest referendum to deciede the fate of the Province. Åland was the last state to join the Union in 1895, following a brutal civil war, when they joined the Union it was agreed that they would hold a referendum every twenty year to determine whether membership of the Union was still what the people wanted. In recent years the margin of victory for the Unionists has grown smaller as many members of Åland believed that they have become less significant in the nation's policies.

Nya Åland currently run several city councils in the region and have stated it is their aim to ensure that Åland becomes its own independent nation once more. Head of Longhouse Willa Sunbrek, who is responsible for foreign policy decisions, stated "I would be very disappointed to see Åland leave our Union, they are a valued member and I believe both the Union and Åland would be weaker if we separate."

Prime Minister Arnór Frederiksen meanwhile has begun aiding in the "United Union" campaign following a recent poll stating that around 42% of the Ålanders would be willing to vote for independence.

The highly religious and rather more conservative Åland has maintained many of it's unique charectoristics through the ages and it is thought Nya Åland will play on this to try and achieve victory in next month's poll.

Arnór Frederiksen visits Åland

With just three days to go before the referendum in Åland to determine their future in the Union. The move comes after the most recent poll reported a 51% intention to vote for independence. The Prime Minister visited the state's leading University in Krokom where he addressed a large gathering of pro-union supporters. During his speech he outlined the reasons for keeping the Union together.

"It is my belief Nords will be better off as a single union, we have built a nation that is well respected in the world, a nation that has built a reputation for being fair, open and committed to creating a peaceful and humane world. Economically we have laid the foundations for future growth that will see all Nords prosper in the long term. By leaving the Union Åland will be hamstringing itself, the new state would be devoid of connections with other nations, it would find itself having to establish an economic niche of its own and would be beyond the protection of the Union. I would hate to see my Nordic brothers and sisters leave us. It is my firm belief we would be better off maintaining what we have."

Meanwhile in Krokom town centre Mads Grunsberg one of the leading spokesman of the Nya Åland movement spoke to a very large crowd gathered to support independence.

"Once again we have an individual telling us we need to be part of the Union. We have a strong economic base that supports the mainly agricultural state of Nordernland. We would be able to negotiate our own treaties, we could even join things like the CSU without being tied by the silly neutrality issues of the Union. Our homeland generates around 35% of all the Union's income yet we receive around 20% of government spending, that's not fair and this is our chance to change that. A vote for independence is a vote for us controlling our own future and allowing our children to benefit from the prosperity we have created in Nya Åland"

Around 92% of all those eligible to vote have registered.

Prime Minister to Resign over Åland Independence

As Åland celebrated winning it's independence in it's referendum Prime Minister Arnór Frederiksen announced his resignation. After a day in which cues were seen outside of Polling Stations across the province the results were announced with the Pro-Independence movement claiming 59% of the vote and Åland being declared indepedent. Many had criticised Frederikson for not taking a more hands on approach to the campaign and even key members of his party have been openly critical. Foreign Minister Birgit Strand said, "The PM seems to have been rather too laid back over this matter, he only visited the province in the final hours of the battle and now we've lost a significant part of the Union. I hope this is an issue that Åland does not live to regret and I hope that the close partnership between the Union and Åland can be assured in years to come."

The actual date that Åland becomes independent will the 26th of March 2015[1] following negotiations about how the split will take place. Matters such as the division of the armed forces, financial burdons, government offices and infastructure will now take place with the Åland Provincial Minister acting on behalf of the newly independent state. Head of Longhouse Willa Sunbrek will handle the negotiations on behalf of the Union. In a short statement following the result she said, "This is a sad day for the Union, our bonds have been broken but we will continue to build a nation in which all people can feel safe, secure and build a prosperous future. We will work with the Ålanders to ensure a smooth transition and I wish them well, I hope we see the friendship between the Nords and the Ålanders continue for many generations to come."

MARCUS HOLMST FOUND DEAD

27 year old Uppsala FK midfielder Marcus Holmst was today found dead in his car at his home in the capital. The UNP international had recently injured his knee ligaments and was told that he may never play again. The discovery was made early yesterday evening when a couple out walking their dog noticed a sports car parked in woodland. They approached the vehicle and discovered it was locked, the driver slumped at the wheel, they called the Emergency Services who pronounced Holmst dead at the scene.

It had been a turbulent year for Holmst who had only recently returned to first team action following another injury only to then go through a public divorce after it was discovered his wife had an affair with Head of Longhouse Willa Sunbrek.

Holmst family have been informed and have asked the media for privacy during their mourning. Krista Rosendahl, his ex wife, was asked for comments but has so far declined to comment.

NATION SAY FAREWELL TO HOLMST AMID SHOCK NEWS

The funeral of national football star Marcus Holmst took place yesterday in Uppsala. The 27 year old was found dead in his car having been found to have taken an overdose of painkillers and sleeping pills. The Uppsala FK player had recently gone through a divorce and then been told it was unlikely he would ever play football again following a career threatening injury. His parents Jessica and Martin Holmst said that they were shocked by their son's actions, "He always seemed such a mentally strong young man, he had dreamed of playing football his whole life and to have that dream snatched away must have been to much for him."

His ex-wife Krista Rosendahl was at the funeral however refused to speak to the press other than to say, "Today is about Marcus, I am merely here to say goodbye to someone who was a very dear to me." The pair were married for five years and divorced after the actress had an affair with Head of Longhouse Willa Sunbrek.

It was however later in the evening that a distraught team mate, Ped Larsson inadvertently told press that this was not Marcus first suicide attempt. Leaving the wake a visibly drunk Larsson said "We should have kept a better eye on him, he did it last time he did his knee in and Krista found him. It was the only thing that stopped her leaving him then." he was then ushered into a car by his agent.

"NYA ÅLAND STATEMENTS UNFAIR" SAY SUNBREK

Following the publication of Nya Åland's constitution several nations have spoken out against it even though Nya Åland is yet to be officially independent. HEad of Longhouse Willa Sunbrek offered support to the new Nordic neighbours. "Some of the criticism has been very unjust, they have democratically choosen to use the name Odinist in their nation and immediatley that's brought them suspicion from some ports because of the actions of the Gungnir terrorist group. I would remind the world that when the Gungnir took control of Uppsala thousands of Odinists risked their lives to keep their non-Odinist neighbours safe, all over the Union Odinists took Christian's into their homes and offered protection, yet now we see a situation where as soon as someone mentions Odinism they somehow think Gungnir, I suppose then because the Christian Church in Seaforth did horrid things we shall see Christianity seen as evil, and that because the Borlanders are Cultists we shall see East Moreland, home of the Cult of Helus face problems. Odinists are not terrorists."

LONGBOAT 2 LEAVES PLANETARY SYSTEM

The Union of Nordic People's space programme today confirmed that the solar wind probe known as Longboat 2 had travelled beyond the final planet in our system. The scientists confirmed that the probe had reached 7,311,000,000km from the sun and was therefore beyond the orbit of all nine planets that make up our system. The probe had been powered by a combination of solar sails, which also provided energy for an ion drive system. Unlike the previous Longboat probe which was recovered as is now on display in the Nordic Science Museum in Uppsala, Longboat 2 will be permitted to continue it's journey outwards for as long the probe keeps transmitting. Science Director Dr. Feldholm made the announcement from the team's facilities in Dorotea. " We are delighted with the success of this project, the data we have collected will hopefully allow us to make further advancements in our technology and this system. Now comes the endurance test, we built Longboat 2 to get this far and anything else was a bonus, it'll be interesting to see just how far she can make it and I'm excited to see the data she'll collect. We anticipate at least another 6 months worth of use as a minimum."

The project has one final probe planned with launch expected within the next few weeks. Longboat 3 will feature an autonomous probe that will be launched into Mundus retrograde orbit, complete five orbits of the home planet before deploying solar sails in an attempt to reach Luna powered solely by them and an ion drive, in what we believe is the first attempt to use non traditional propulsion to reach Luna. If successful the probe will land and take samples using robotic arms, before firing a rocket back into orbit and returning home.

Dr. Feldholm believes this could well be the final project before a Nord ventures into space. "There is no point putting a person into space for the sake of it, we must make it mean something, the technology to place a human being into orbit, travel to other planets and even live in space is now old hat, if we are to have a space programme it must be to add to knowledge not recycle it. Should Longboat 3 be successful I believe we will look at using solar sail and ion technology to land a person on Luna. This would truly be something worthwhile in my view."

It was also decieded that should Nya Åland wish to be involved the newly independent state would be permitted, Dr.Feldholm stating, "We used tax payers krona to build these projects, this money came from Sauli, Åland, Jaholm, Dorotea, Uppsala and every citizen contributed, we must ensure that the Ålanders are, if they choose, just as involved as we are after all it is there money that has helped us build these projects."

POTENTIAL DRAKKEN ROW

Jana Krombek, Minister of Culture, today warned of a potential dispute with Nya Åland over the historic ship UNPHS Drakken. The replica Viking longboat was built three years ago using only technology and materials known to have been avaliable 1200 years ago. In the three years since its construction in Uppsala it has travelled Mundus as a floating museum and an experimental archaeology demonstration. The vessel has most famously appeared at East Moreland's festival of sail and the inaugural CETO festival in Achkaerin. The issue however comes from the boats construction and historic origins. The boat was built on a beach 10km south of Uppsala by a team from the University of Kambre, the plans however were drawn up by Professor Torben Markke of the University of Krokom, now in Nya Åland. Also the oak used in construction of the vessel came from commercial woods at Grunbrak again in Nya Åland, finally the boat is based on the design of the famous KonigDrakke boat burial found in Nya Åland. Minister Krombek has warned, "with the government of Nya Åland attempting to join CETO and with so much Åland input into the project I fear that we may lose it, the valuable piece of our nations heritage may come under fire. I would be disinclined to gift it to them, to many of the UNP's citizens have worked too hard to bring the project to fruition and dedicated much time and effort to taking the boat around Mundus."

So far the Nya Åland government have declined to comment on the situation.

21 KILLED IN TERROR ATTACK ON GRUNWALD

A group of ten gun men attacked Gurnwald ferry terminal at 7am this morning. The ferry terminal is a prime gateway to Nya Åland and has seen an increase in commuter traffic with many people who used to work in Krokom relocating to Grunwald to avoid leaving the Union. A twenty minute hydrofoil ride runs regularly to connect the small town with the capital of Nya Åland. This morning however the regular commute was shattered as two speed boats pulled up at the dockside and opened fire on the mass of commuters. A handful of soldiers who were part of the Grunwald Training Centre rushed to the dockside and engaged with the gunmen, however they were severally out gunned by the assault rifles and RPG's carried. Several rockets were fired into surrounding buildings, seemingly indiscriminately. As the local military training base mustered a robust response the gunmen reboarded the fast boats and crossed into Nya Åland territory preventing anyone from following.

In the aftermath local Emergency Medical Centres declared major incidents as hundreds of injured people were taken for treatment. One eye witness Sandy Pirker, a 27 year old waitress at a dockside cafe, spoke of the moment she realised what was happening. "We heard the speed boats but we put it down to someone being a show off, it's not that uncommon. Next I heard screams and gunfire. Everyone just dived on the ground, as I hid behind a stone planter I saw men dressed in green with assault rifles jump off a boat and rush towards the terminal. One man then fired a rocket at the building next to us. I heard screams as the glass shattered all over us." she was later treated for major cuts to her head and arms. Most of those killed where waiting for the cross bay hydrofoil and include several commuters, three students of Krokom High School and a grandmother and baby grandson.

An hour later video filmed by the attackers was released in which a man called Harald Odinsson claimed to be the leader of the attack. "The attack this morning was a punishment for your refusal to follow the true path of Odinism. The Gungnir will not rest until every Nord has the oppurtunity to be enraptured in the safety of Odinism. These attacks will continue until the other states of the Union see fit to adopt the constitution of Nya Åland. You have been warned."

Head Gothi of Nya Åland Daniel Stenberg immediately spoke out against the violence. "These people have used our territory for this heinous act. I wish to make it known that we in no way condone what they have done, I am appaled that anyone who would consider themselves a follow of the faith I teach in would even consider such an attack. We will work with our Nordic brothers and sisters in the Union to find these people and bring them to justice." It is also believed that patrols along the boarder will be stepped up by Union military as a precaution against further attacks.

Ragnar Hermansen Minister of Defence said, "The Gungnir probably see us as being vulnerable as our military has essentially been halved in recent months, the boarder with Nya Åland is difficult to patrol with the numbers we have. While I do not wish us to militarise our nation I believe some prudent increases in numbers will be necessary. I intend to work with my counter part to see if we can find ways of our forces being able to work together should this example of them simply hopping the boarder be the first of many. We need to be able to know that regardless of where these terrorist go they can be brought to justice."

STRAND SPEAKS OF INTERNATIONAL WORRIES

Foreign Minister Birgit Strand spoke of her concerns over recent international war of words. In recent days we've seen tensions increase between Dijel and the Rokkenjiman/Dartfordian governments over exercises near Dauntel, followed by Rokkenjima's announcement of new trading rules regarding the Mundus Convention on Universal Rights. "I have to say I'm getting a little nervous, Albion has always been a rather quiet neighbourhood, however we now appear to have two of our closest neighbours poking each other with sticks. I personally don't see what these naval exercises have achieved that couldn't have been done in Rokkenjiman or Dartfordian waters, however I don't see what Dijel has against the Free Seas Concordt, that however was something we could have tackled diplomatically through things such as the Pan-Albion Congress rather than rolling warships into the region.

I am a firm believer that the MCUR is a document that has made the world a much better place, however we must realise that not every nation is going to see eye to eye with us. The situation in Nueva Ardia shows that agreement within a nation isn't always straightforward when it comes to this document. Tytor are one of the more noticeable absentees from the MCUR but by no stretch of the imagination could one call them an abuser of human rights. Rokkenjima have significant pull in the world's economy, both individually and through the Cross Straits Union, to use that pull to essentially strong arm nations is in my view not particularly fair, we've already seen Odmony make a case for their exemption. I'm also intrigued how this policy will work with Tytor, a nation which is a CSU observer and one I would have assumed would have a close relationship with Rokkenjima. It certainly will be interesting to see how nations respond."

When asked about the new Trans-Albion Service from Dartfordia and it's impact on the continent Miss Strand was more optimistic. "I see this kind of infastructure project as vital to the success of the Pan Albion Congress, it shows nations can co-operate and bring about methods to make us closer. My concern with the new luxury service LS Railways offer however is the cost, "We're talking almost 12,000kr for a standard one way ticket. That's almost a months wages for most working class people, I worry that the service will be a big failure, I can walk into Uppsala airport and get a return flight for around 1,300kr, I would hope LS Railways, the continents largest operator would find ways of cutting costs to compete with these cheap airlines otherwise it's nothing but an extravagance." When asked whether she would utilise the service herself she said, "While I'm intrigued what swimming on a train would be like I'm not about to cost the Union's tax payers that amount of money. When I travel I will use the most cost effective way so I suspect the budget airlines will keep getting my money for the time being."

PATROL BOAT REPLACEMENT ORDERED

Following the loss of half the nations fast patrol boats to the nation of Nya Åland the Ministry of Defence today announced that they have ordered eight replacement vessels from Skrol Dockyards. Ragnar Hermansen, the nations Minister for the Armed Forces made the announcements after visiting Grunwald following the recent Gungnir attack that left 21 dead. A rapidly concluded investigation identified a lack of boarder patrols as a key factor in the attack taking place. Mr.Hermansen stated, "It is vital that we are able to ensure that our boarder is as secure as ever, to do that we must begin making investments to bring our levels of naval vessels back up to pre-division numbers. That must start with those vessels needed to protect us from incidents like the one we have seen recently. I am therefore announcing we will be buying eight Skrol Class vessels."

The boat is to be made in Sauli and equipped with systems made entirely within the Union, the first time that has ever happened. The vessel is likely to be amongst the fastest in Mundus, being capable of reaching speeds around 60knts in calm water, allowing it to respond quickly to any incidents. The vessels shape and construction creates an extremely small RADAR signature which along with its high speed and manoeuvrability would make it a difficult target. It also carried 8 Naval Strike SSM concealed in an internal bay, much like an aircrafts bomb bay, as well as 2 SAM launchers and a .50cal machine gun.

It is expected that in the coming weeks several more announcements on military purchases will be made by the Ministry of Defence.

MIGRATION MOVEMENT AT BOARDER

In the time since the Union and Nya Åland split the boarder between the two has seen significant migration. With Nya Åland offering citizenship to all Odinists many of the faiths stronger believers have ventured North setting up home in the new nation. Meanwhile many more moderate Odinists and Christians have ventured South to set up home in the Union of Nordic People. To date around 20,000 people have moved North while 28,000 have moved South. The open boarder policy will continue for another 3 months after which time Head Gothi Daniel Stenberg and Head of Longhouse Willa Sunbrek will meet face to face to discuss a more long term arrangement.

UNP TO LAUNCH MANNED LUNA MISSION BY END OF YEAR

The Nordic Institute of Science announced today that it will launch it's first manned mission within two months with an attempt to land on Luna by the end of the year. Following three successful remote controlled probes as part of the Longboat Project a manned version of Longboat 3 has been built and is expected to be launched within the next two months. "Huginn" will be manned by two astronauts and will complete a flyby of the Luna surface at which point it will carry out an assessment as to potential landing site. If successful "Muninn" will be launched to land on the moon.

The two ambitious projects will be televised to the general public and as with the other UNP space projects all data will be released to the general public. It is expected that the crews will be drawn from the Air Force test pilots who have been working with the scientists on various space vehicles.

HEAD OF LONGHOUSE TO MARRY

The Head of Longhouse Willa Sunbrek today announced that she and her partner, actress Krista Rosendahl would marry. The pair meet during a campaign the permit LGBT marriage in all provinces of the UNP around five years ago. At that time Krista Rosendahl was married to recently deceased footballer Marcus Holmst, despite this she began a romance with Sunbrek that has now been going on for around three years.

Willa Sunbrek has been the Head of Longhouse for nearly two years and it that times has shown herself to be a skilled diplomat, negotiating several international disagreements, authoring the Uppsala Convention and negotiating Nya Åland's separation from the Union.

Sunbrek has always been keen to keep her private life out of the public eye however by filing for a marriage licence it would become public knowledge so the UNP's Head of State made the decision to make the announcement. A spokeswoman for the pair said, "They are both excited by the upcoming ceremony and have asked that the press respect their special day, it will be attended just by friends and family."

The exact date and location of the ceremony were not revealed.

MUNNIN TO GO THURSDAY

The final part of Project Longboat is due to launch this Thursday. The vessel known as Munnin will launch from Dorotea and using state of the art solar sails make its way to orbit around Luna. Once in orbit a lander will descend to the surface where astronauts Lt. Melissa Stromberg and Lt.Jasper Grepper will become the first Nords on the moon. The launch date of the mission had been reconsidered in relation to the strange discovery by East Moreland's Swarmbots which appear to have found an astronauts body, however it was decided that too much had been invested in preparing for this date. The astronauts were scheduled to bring back samples from Luna however it has now been suggested that they may land close to the crater the East Moreland bots found the suspected body and recover it. As of yet no one has made any claim to the body however many experts suggest it could be of a Nueva Ardian as it would appear to have flags of that nation upon the shoulder, this has lead to conspiracy theorists to suggest a secret moon mission, as of yet however no government has confirmed this.

Project director Karsten Janker has spoke of the potential changing nature of the mission. "We sat down and discussed the situation with the crew and the team that will be based on Mundus. We decided that the opportunity of recovering samples of dust and moon rock is a lesser regard than the recovery of what could be the first human to die in space. Many of our team are military personnel or ex military and they strongly believe that no man should be left behind, this however is clearly speculation, we may get there and find it is merely debris from other missions. We have contacted the East Moreland SmartWar team and discussed the possibility of them manoeuvring the discovery to the edge of the crater thus meaning our team do not have to descend into it. I would urge the nation of who this brave pioneer belongs to come forward and tell the world what happened."

ROSENDAHL AND SUNBREK PUBLIC SPAT OVER WHALING

The future first couple of the Union of Nordic People today appeared to have their first public spat while attending a charity event in Jaholm. When Head of Longhouse Willa Sunbrek was asked about the issue of whaling in Nya Åland she responded by saying, "Clearly they are entitled to use their waters as they see fit, however in the current day and age there is no logical need for whaling." It was at this moment her fiancée actress Krista Rosendahl, a native of Nya Åland intervened saying. "The need is cultural, the need is that of a person's pride in not relying on charity."

The pair spent a few moments debating the merits of the Nya Åland whale hunt live on air before the local news reporter cut back to the studio. In a statement released later by the Longhouse a spokesman said, "Like any couple they do not always see eye to eye on issues, and with both being passionate about their point of views it is clear this will sometimes lead to disagreements." With the pair due to marry soon it remains to be seen what influence, if any, Rosendahl will have on the politics of the Union. Some have stated her position as a dual national may be an advantage to Willa Sunbrek in dealing with the northern neighbours.

Rumours have even spread that the couple may get married in Krokom where Rosendahl's family live, this began after Krista was seen meeting with a local Gothi.

COUNCIL OF UNALIGNED NATIONS TO MEET SOON

The Council of Unaligned Nations has seen much recent activity, with Nueva Ardia, The Empire of Genstatum, Mavrosia and the New Utopian Order all joining within the last week. The group will now meet in its new format in the Riksdag in Uppsala and is expected to be chaired by Willa Sunbrek. The Council of Unaligned Nations (CUN) was established in order to try and give neutral and unaligned nations a voice at a time when the CSTO and CIS were beginning to dominate the international scene. Speaking before the new arrivals made their way to Uppsala Head of Longhouse stated. "I am delighted to be able to welcome these new friends to Uppsala. I think the interest in CUN shows how determined some nations are to protect their independence yet at the same time not isolate themselves. I am really looking forward to meeting these ambassadors."

With the CUN having two nations on the new Commonwealth Treaty Organisation's Security Council Miss Sunbrek went on to say, "It just goes to show that you don't have to be backed up by an alliance to be seen as a nation capable of acting in the interest of Mundus. Regardless of what some have said we are ready and prepared to take on this role and I am sure we will do so with fairness." When asked about the comments surrounding the election, Miss Sunbrek said. "I'm proud of our nations track record, we deserve to be part of the Security Council and as the worlds only neutrally declared nation I believe our position there is vital in giving a balanced point of view. We will of course work with non Security Council nations to ensure their concerns are addressed."

NORDS LAND ON LUNA AND RECOVER BODY

The first members of the Union of Nordic People's space programme have landed on Luna. Lt. Melissa Stromberg and Lt.Jasper Grepper where the two astronauts chosen for this ground breaking mission, which unlike many space programmes hasn't made scientific discovery it's main objective. With the recent East Moreland discovery of a dead Nueva Ardian astronaut on the moon the scientific aspect of the mission was scrapped at the last minute and instead the body will be recovered and returned to Mundus. The body was brought out of the crater by the East Moreland Luna based Swarm bots and then collected by the Nordic astronauts.

Speaking before departing Lt.Stromberg said "To be the first Nord's to land on Luna is a great honour, I had expected to be carrying moon rocks home and setting up equipment for scientists back here. I think though our new mission is much more important, this man was a pioneer, we leave Mundus on the back of what he helped achieve, to think of him left up there for so long is in my view a disgrace." Meanwhile her co-pilot Lt. Grepper said, "It will seem strange to come back with a dead body onboard, but we both got into this gig through the military, it won't be the first time we've seen a dead body, it'll be the strangest place we've seen one though."

It is expected that once the vessel returns to Mundus the body will be returned to Nueva Ardia.

ROSENDAHL SPEAKS ON WHALE HUNT

A joint national of both the Union and Nya Åland, actress and future "First Lady of the Longhouse" Krista Rosendahl has spoken about her connection to the now independent Nya Åland and the issue concerning whaling.

Interview

Its strange, nothing about my life has really changed because of the independence, however I do feel different, in some ways I think I've become more aware of the little things that those of us from the North took as granted parts of our life, the difference between the rest of the Union and my native homeland becomes more clear. I'm always going to be proud though to call myself a Nord, I've been part of the community in Uppsala since I was 16 and I love the city and the people, but while I always told people "I'm a Nord" I always was fiercly proud of being an Ålander.

Sadly recently that has been more difficult internationally. Nya Åland is unique, the people there are fiercely proud of our culture, religion and our ability to look after ourselves. This is something the world seems to have forgotten, since independence no one has given us a chance, first people worried about us being devout Odinists, then when two remote communities try and look after themselves we get the world and it's Navy arriving on our doorstep. I find it ironic, these nations allow animals to die everyday, often having been caged up or their freedom restricted, in many cases pumped full of drugs to promote growth or keep away illness, their last moments spent in a slaughter house were everything is covered in blood and waste. These whales will have lead an all natural life and their last moment will be as swift as any in those slaughter houses, yet what we are doing is wrong, why? I think its because many media outlets have been painting this as some kind of ceremony or tradition, it's not it's a necessity. I've been to Sputswald, in winter I can well imagine how isolated it is, people call on them to accept charity of food hand outs, imagine how that feels, you have the means to support yourself yet because the world wish to deny it you because of some misplaced sentimentality you are expected to survive on hand outs, how degrading is that. Nya Åland has the means to feed itself if the world would let it, allowing this charity to go somewhere it is actually needed. I would urge the world to actually try and respect Nya Åland's unique culture and the determination of those from there to be self reliant, that's all they want to be able to feed their family and themselves, the world should just let them get on with it rather than bullying them with frigates and destroyers on their doorstep."

NORDS LAND ON LUNA AND RECOVER BODY

The first two Nords to venture into space today returned to Mundus landing in the southern Sea of Alucard. Lt. Melissa Stromberg and Lt.Jasper Grepper were greeted by search and rescue teams from the Navy who quickly helped them board the waiting recovery vessel UNPNV Asga were the press watched the operation unfold. Once the two crew were safely onboard the Munnin capsule was brought on board with its cargo of a deceased Nueva Ardian astronaut. A cordon was erected around the capsule as a science team placed the remains in a specially constructed coffin which was draped with the Nueva Ardian flag. There has yet to be any details released about the return of the remains to its home nation although it is expected that the astronaut will be returned to his family.

Speaking on board the Asga, Stromberg and Grepper spoke of their experience on Luna, Stromberg said "To stand on the surface of Luna and look back to see Mundus is a sight that will stay with me until I die, to see the beauty of home world in such a way is a dream come true." Meanwhile Grepper described it as being "the greatest thrill I'll ever experience, the stars seemed brighter, the colours so vivid, it was equal parts breathtakingly beautiful and surreal."

Programme Director Karsten Janker stated "I'm delighted we got the two crew members back in one piece, for me that defines a successful mission. We now need to take what we've learnt from this mission and start thinking of what is next. We missed out on collecting samples to bring the lost astronaut home so perhaps Munnin II will be something to consider."

INACTION ON REOGRANISATION "WORRYING"

Minister of Defence Ragnar Hermansen spoke about the need for the United Nordic Peoples Defence Force to be re-organised following the split with Nya Åland. In a statement made during a TV interview Mr.Hermansen said "We effectively lost half of our armed forces over night, and that was when the UNPDF was already, in my opinion, majorly short on equipment and man power. We've relied on our stance of neutrality to see us avoid conflict however recently we've seen Albion become less stable and the Gungnir remain a threat, we can't rely on just sitting back allowing others to deal with issues, it's vital we stand on our own two feet defensively." When asked about the funding of any rebuilding he replied by saying, "What people forget is unlike many nations around Mundus we don't spend much on defence, our defence spending has been at about 1.5% of GDP for many years with a reserve fund having been set aside should we need it, this money will help fund the majority of purchases and if we're prudent in our shopping we can build an effective defence force."

When asked what priorities the nation had he spoke of a need for "decent jet aircraft to patrol the skies and identify threats, we also need to look at investing in some heavier naval assets" . It is expected that the nation will start to explore opportunities for purchases in the next few weeks should the Minister have his way. "It is worrying things are taking so long. We can not rely on others for our own defence."

UPPSALA CELEBRATES MUNNIN CREW RETURN

Thousands of people lined the side of the quay at Uppsala Naval Dockyard as UNPNV Asga returned from recovering the Munnin capsule and its crew. The first two Nords in space where greeted with waved flags, fireworks and marching bands. Head of Longhouse Willa Sunbrek attended the homecoming and presented each of Lt. Melissa Stromberg and Lt.Jasper Grepper with the National Science Medal. Before the presentation Sunbrek gave a short speech in which she said.

Quote:

As a nation the UNP has prided itself on peaceful endeavours, today we honour two members of are military who have done their nation a great service without stepping onto the battlefield. Lt's Grepper and Stromberg have blazed a trail for our scientific community to follow, as I stand here today welcoming them home I see the faces of lots of young boys and girls lining the dockside and I hope that this will act as inspiration to these people to quiet literally aim for the stars. While we stand here and celebrate their achievements let us not forget the potential risks and sacrifices every person who makes this fantastic voyage away from Mundus takes. Today we welcome back not just our two brave souls but a man from Nueva Ardia who died in his own attempt to advance our knowledge of the solar system. While we welcome back our people his own family will be finally reunited with their loved one years after his death. It is people such as this unknown astronaut that have helped pave the way for Grepper and Stromberg and as we praise them for their achievement let us keep him in our mind. I pray this will not be the last time Nords set foot on Luna.

In a ceremony held quietly the body of the astronaut was officially handed over to the ambassador to the Union from Nueva Ardia. It is thought that a Munnin mission patch was attached to the coffin as a mark of respect from the Nordic team.

"YOU NEED TOUGHER SKIN" SAYS STRAND

Foreign Minister Birgit Strand commented on Emperor Peter Azurewinds statement regarding the command of CTOMM. During his speech Peter said "The UNP vote while going the way we expected it to go does us a disservice, if you're going to state reasons for voting then you need to make sure you aren't directly insulting any candidate."

When asked to comment on this Birgit Strand replied, "I find it remarkable that we're being picked out and criticised for merely exercising our democratic right within the Commonwealth Treaty Organisation. We were asked to pick out of two possible command options, we made our choice and unlike the other 3 nations who voted against us we believe that the nation of Achkaerin deserved to have had our reasoning explaining. While they may not agree with it they are bound to accept it and to frankly now call our reasoning insulting, well I think if Achkaerin is going to put itself forward you need tougher skin. Our ambassador clearly stated "While we have no doubt both nations could run an operation of this nature", and seeing as they may only vote for one nation I fail to see how this is an insult. Frankly the whole fall out from this reminds me more of a whining footballer complaining they didn't get what they wanted on the field of play. Command of CTOMM was not some trophy to be paraded, the Security Council was asked to make a decision and that has happened, if the Emperor finds accepting decisions difficult then I'm sorry there is nothing we can do about it.

Furthermore we fully support the Secretary General, Mr.Carpenter has to ensure swift action is taken, while the resolution was being discussed we saw Cohidinia and South Hills bombed and then several women from the UAE kidnapped. Dragging out discussions and protests only endangers more lives."

The Union of Nordic People was also put forward for command however declined stating that they felt this would compromise the nations stance on neutrality. There has yet to be any announcement made about UNP involvement in CTOMM. Miss Strand added, "As a member of the Security Council I feel we should make some contribution, however with our small military and stance of neutrality I would not expect this to be as significant as some of the contributions we have seen"

JOINT PROJECT UNVEILED

The Ministry of Defence yesterday announced a joint project for the navy. Following extensive consultation the Navy will be acquiring a new class of Frigate to fill the gap left after the split of the UNP's Navy following Nya Åland independence. The project will be undertaken with SmartWar of East Moreland providing various electronic components such as the RADAR system and aspects of stealth technology seen in their Chameleon tank, something that was also used by the Rokkenjiman Navy in a recent project. The rest of the vessel will be built in Sauli dockyards and at least five of the vessels are expected to enter service, an official name for he class has yet to be chosen and at present the project is called the Multi Role Light Frigate.

It is expected the final version will be able to reach speeds of 30knots, have a 24 cell VLS missile capability, two calibres of gun along with air defence systems. Minister of Defence spokesman said. "We are delighted with the proposal Sauli Dockyards and SmartWar have put before us, this sizeable investment will be just one step to ensuring our armed forces are up to the job of defending our nation"

"FIRST COUPLE" SET DATE

Head of Longhouse Willa Sunbrek and her girlfriend Krista Rosendahl have today announced that they will marry on the 27th June in a small private ceremony in Uppsala. The couple will then travel to Rosendahl's home town of Krokom where a traditional Odinist blessing. The couple meet while both campaigining for LGBT Rights, and despite being married Krista Rosendahl struck up a relationship with the then Deputy Head of Longhouse.

The marriage will be, to our knowledge, the first time a Head of State has entered into a same sex marriage. While the marriage gives Rosendahl no political power or authority it will place on her the responsibility of being an unofficial ambassador for the nation as part of the "First Couple". Many are concerned by this as Rosendahl is by birth an Ålander and has often spoken in the nations defence most notably in the issue of whaling.

It is not thought that the event will be attended by foreign dignitaries.

SUNBREK-ROSENDAHL MARRY

The Head of Longhouse , Willa Sunrek and her actress partner Krista Rosendahl today tied the knot and married in a small private ceremony in Uppsala. Attended only by friends and family the couple even attempted to avoid the press as they made their entrance, Rosendahl however was snapped in her dress entering the Temples ground through the nearby park. A large crowd of well wishers had gathered and following the ceremony the pair did take time to speak to some of the crowd before heading to the Head of Longhouse's private residence for a post wedding feast.

Tomorrow the couple will travel to Nya Åland where a blessing will take place in the Temple of Odin in Krokom, a spokesman for the cities mayor said, "We are delighted that one of our cities most famous citizens did not have her wedding here however we look forward to welcoming her and her new wife tomorrow." the Mayor also let slip that the ceremony will be overseen by Head Gothi Daniel Stenberg. A spokesman for the Head of State from Nya Åland said, "The Head Gothi has always enjoyed presiding over weddings and when he heard this one was having a blessing he felt it only fitting the Head of State of the UNP have her wedding blessed by the leading Gothi in our nation."

A small group of anti-same sex marriage protesters gathered outside the venue but no disruption was caused as they were heavily outnumbered by the larger crowd of well wishers.

NEW PARTICLES FOUND AS LHC HITS TOP SPEED

The Large Hadron Collider at Dorotea reached full speed earlier this week and already scientists believe they have begun to discover new particles. Speaking from the media centre at the site head of project Dr. Ravesson said, "It's a very exciting time, we've had thousands of collisions and on many of them we have had glimpses of things I have never seen before. Sadly we can't confirm 100% we've found completely new things but it would be highly unlikely that from what we've seen we're seeing the same things over and over."

In a unique experiment researchers are giving data to schools for them to use a newly built app to help identify possible new leads from the thousands of collisions. Dr.Ravesson explained. "The diagrams we get of the particle collisions take a great deal of time to find anything in, we can narrow this down by looking for some very basic things. We have built a games app which lets users play an almost spot the difference style game, and because we hopefully will have thousands of people doing it from around Mundus any patterns can be quickly confirmed, once we have that our experts can narrow things down. We hope not only will this help our scientists speed up their discoveries but it allows people to truly see that they are part of this project, and that it is not just some beardy scientists playing about underground."

FIRST COUPLE ARRIVE IN EAST MORELAND

Following their marriage and blessing the Union's "First Couple" , Head of Longhouse Willa Sunbrek and actress Krista Rosendahl have arrived in East Moreland on a combined diplomatic trip and honeymoon. The pair are spending time in Portworth ahead of the nations Festival of Sail, during which Historic Ship Drakken will participate. During the visit the pair will also attend a gala dinner to be attended by various heads of state and government. It is also expected that during the visit the Head of Longhouse will be given the opportunity to inspect the Oldfield Red Legion HQ, since Red Legion have been helping run the Mjölnir Commando training. The Head of Longhouse is also scheduled to visit Technology City to investigate the possibility of further investment in the project by UNP businesses.

AIR FORCE TO GET BUDGET JET

The Ministry of Defence have announced that the are purchasing a squadron's worth of EMAC's new aircraft which is being hailed by many as a "budget jet".The aircraft known as the "Dragonling" will be delivered over the next few weeks. With each costing in the region of $18million it represents a significant saving on other aircraft in a similar role. The other benefit of the aircraft is the cheaper running costs, after losing much hardwear to the Nya Åland military it is the first significant purchase for the airforce. A Minister of Defence spokesman said, "We are delighted to have achieved a deal for these aircraft, I'm confident they will be exceptional value for money and help our air force maintain a steadfast defence of our nation. Sadly I believe we still have several other areas where we need to strengthen and we will be looking to continue to rebuild in the coming weeks."

FIRST COUPLE TO CONSIDER ADOPTION

Having returned from their honeymoon the Head of Longhouse Willa Sunbrek and her wife, actress Krista Rosendahl, have announced that they are considering adoption. The pair had attended East Moreland's Festival of Sail and during that time meet with King David of East Moreland for talks about extending the deal of Red Legion to train The Mjoliner special forces unit.

Upon arriving back in Uppsala the couple chatted briefly to the press during which they were asked if they had considered starting a family. The Head of Longhouse said, "One day both of us would like to be mothers but perhaps it's too soon at the moment. We've chatted about it one day and agreed we'd probably consider adoption but that could be many years away." Meanwhile Rosendahl said, "At the moment our work schedules are chaotic , its hard enough to see each other, a child needs our constant attention so for now that'll wait."

NEW SPACE AGENCY ANNOUNCE FIRST MISSION

Today it was announced that a cross boarder deal has established the Joint Nordic Space Programme (JNSP), the organisation will be equally funded by the governments of the Union of Nordic People and Nya Åland as well as receiving additional money from private sponsers. The Union has been part of several ground breaking space programmes such as Project Icarus which was the first probe to map solar winds, and the Longboat Project which sent three probes around the solar system utilising these winds. The Union also sent their first manned mission to Luna this year where they retrieved the body of a dead Nueva Ardian astronaut.

Shortly after announcing the formation of the new agency their first project was announced, a mission to one of the moons of Marduk (Jupiter). A probe will be sent to the moon Europa which scientists believe may have an ocean under its icey surface. Speaking from the new JNSP HQ at Grunwald Professor Linkta said, "Europa's surface features hardly any impact craters leading us to think its icey surface is somehow recycled, this would indicate there is perhaps an ocean underneath, however the ice may be very thick. Therefore we have designed an ice diving robot." The prototype Ice Diver was unveiled having passed basic tests on the ice packs around the Union. Powered using a small nuclear power source the Ice Diver will use a stored liquid on board to melt the ice, it will then descend sucking in the melted ice to heat and continue the process until it works its way through the ice. Once beneath the ice pack it will release a series of fifty microprobes which will take samples and map the suspected ocean.

Some scientists hold out hopes that perhaps a basic form of life may exist in these oceans.

JNSP "NOT IN COMPETITION" AS ICE DRILL LAUNCH CLOSE

Professor Linkta of the Joint Nordic Space Programme confirmed that the Ice Drill Probe destined for Europa will be launched within 48 hours following a series of successful tests. Speaking from the launch site at Ronheim the Professor said, "We're looking forward to getting Ice Drill there and beginning its mission, I feel this could reveal much about the solar system in which we live, the ultimate discovery would be some kind of life below the ice in the Europan oceans."

The Professor was then asked about comments made from NASA Head of the Science and Astrophysics Research Department and Administrator, Oscar Ifario in a Nueva Ardian publication. "As far as we are concerned we are not in competition. The aim of our missions is to expand our species knowledge of our solar system, we have always maintained a policy of sharing all data we gather with anyone in the scientific community. While Nueva Ardia wish to land people on Europa I'm sure they'll find much of our data useful. We at present have no intention of sending humans to Europa so any talk of a race is clearly just media talk, any operation we put together has very clear scientific goals and will never be simply about putting a human somewhere. Take our first Luna mission, the intention there was to collect very specific samples however we used the payload weight to bring back the Neuva Ardian astronauts left stranded there, as a result we will have a mission to Luna in the near future."

UPPSALA DOCKYARDS BEGIN CONSTRUCTION OF MUNDUS VOYAGER

Uppsala Dockyards have today announced that they have begun construction of a Vertical ship aimed at allowing greater study of the ocean. Known as Mundus Voyager it will have the majority of its body underwater. It is expected to cost around $43 million and when built, will be 58-meters in height. Designed to drift with ocean currents, the vessel will generate the majority of its power for life-support systems and propulsion to avoid other ships and storms from renewable energy, including solar, wind and wave power.

Head of Longhouse Willa Sunbrek spoke at the ceremony to mark the beginning of construction saying. "This vessel will be state of the art and shows that while the rest of the world spend money investing in war ships we are more interested in bettering mankinds knowledge in peaceful ways. The vessel will allow a team of scientists to work long term underwater on a variety of experiments and travelling the world. We also intend to allow teams from other nations to visit the vessel or send experiments they wish to have done. We see this as being the aquatic version of a space station. It is vital that we not only seek to explore the solar system we live in but also expand our knowledge of the largest unexplored frontier on Mundus." There has already been some interest from other nations with Queen Matilda of East Moreland having been rumoured to have applied for a place onboard for a short stay.

JNSP ICE DRILL LAUNCHES

Late last night the rocket containing the Ice Drill probe was successfully launched from a site belonging to the Joint Nordic Space Programme in Sauli. The probe contains a lander designed to melt through the ice pack of Marduk's moon Europa. It is believed by many scientists that an ocean exists beneath the ice and that the probe could be the first to reach it and perhaps discover life present there. The probe is the first joint project between the Union and Nya Åland and heralds the first of a series of probes which were announced at the launch press conference. The first is an ambitious Space based telescope which aims to allow scientists to view some of the very earliest formed stars. A further project will be a Mars Geyser Hopper. This probe will land on the surface of Mars in the planets springtime and use small leaps to investigate the phenomenon of Mars Geysers which erupt from the surface.

Professor Linkta said the launch of Ice Drill was a "significant step forward in our desires to learn about the universe" and hoped that "our results will be something we can build upon and earn our nations a reputation for scientific excellence and innovation."

SUNBREK CALLS FOR CTO UNITY

Speaking following the recent announcement of Acquitane's independence the Head of Longhouse spoke about the need for CTO unity. Speaking on a radio interview she said, "Once the Union is provided with proof that this is indeed the will of the people of Acquitane and that General Cartier is not in their employ then I would be delighted to support the nation. However recognising them as independent before a single referendum vote has been counted is in my view putting the cart before the horse. The fact with no warning or consultation arguably the most influential nation in Mundus has made a decision without consulting their CTO partners is worrying. The idea behind getting involved in Marseille was to present a united front, we voted for a Rokkenjiman military leader to lead forces through the operation, we did not vote to place Rokkenjima in a position to determine the future of the nation ahead of her CTO partners."

When asked how she believes things should progress the Head of Longhouse said, "We need to get everyone who has had an involvement in the situation in one room and talk, I had believed that was the point of CTO however I appear to be wrong. We will be announcing in the coming days intentions to look at a multi-national conference with all parties both sovereign nations and those fighting for freedom, to get together and determine how the eventual end of the conflict should be handled and I would hope I could count on the support of all nations whether CTO or not."

MUNDUS VOYAGER TO HEAD TO HYGELAC

The Union of Nordic People's scientific research ship known as Mundus Voyager will make its maiden voyage next week assuming it successfully completes sea trials. The Mundus Voyager will set sail for the oceans around Hygelac and seek to explore the icy waters as well as take samples of the ice, it is also hoped to deposit a team of scientists on the continent to take samples from various positions.

The new ship will be operated by a crew from the Merchant Navy supported by a crew of scientists from the UNP Marine Research Insitute lead by Jane Bohr. Professor Bohr said, "The cold oceans are home to many species that we wish to learn more about and this unique vessel gives us a significant opportunity. I think however very few dives will take place instead we'll make use of the submergible and sensors that will be permanently below the sea level."

The ship was expected to cost $48million however it's final cost has been declared at $75million after the inclusion of extra systems and sensors, speaking at the launch Head of Longhouse Willa Sunbrek said, "The overspend has already been clawed back through future projects the vessel will undertake for sponsers and other nations. We believe within five years the vessel will be self funding."

FRACKING LICENCES ISSUED

Posted Image

The Minister for Energy today issued three companies licences to explore for and produce natural gas using fracking. Consortagas, Nordgas and UNPAS will begin the search for sites within the next 12 months with several areas already being considered. The licences were sold using sealed bids and is estimated to have raised over $150million for the national treasury.

A Minister of Energy spokesman said, "These funds will be invested into green energies to complement the existing energy infrastructure. We hope ne day to be a nation completely powered by green energy but that takes some investment and time. In the time until that can happen we must ensure we have reliable sources of gas for our nation."

MUNDUS VOYAGER REACHES HYGELAC

Mundus Voyager, the Union's, state of the art science research vessel has this morning reached Hygelac and deposited a team of scientists and researches on the ice pack. Lead scientist Professor Joaquin Blert was first to set foot there. The five man team then used motorised sledges to make their way the short distance to the rocky outcrops where Blert and his colleagues attatched a bronze plaque that read "On the 7th October 2015 five scientists from the Union Of Nordic People became the first of their nation to set foot on this continent. They came in the name of science for all of Mundus." A live video link was shown on TV of the team making this important action, those watching included Head of Longhouse Willa Sunbrek who said, "This may smack of vanity, however the Union is not one that looks to a past full of war and violence to find glory, we are a nation that strives for knowledge and to increase our understanding of the world in which we live. Our scientists undertake superb work and should be recognised, long into the future. I'm proud we've been able to give them the equipment needed to do this, and with all UNP science based projects all their data will be made available as soon as possible."

It is thought that after observing the conditions Blert and his team may push further inland to find the South Pole and recover samples from there.

The Mundus Voyager is expected to return to Uppsala within three months when a multi-national crew will be recruited for a second voyage to last 6 months around the sea's of the equator zone.

UNPDF TO DEPLOY OVERSEAS FOR FIRST TIME

The Ministry of Defence today confirmed that members of the Union of Nordic People Defence Force would be deploying to Ardia as part of efforts to bring about a peace between Zachaevania and Nueva Ardia. Some 7,500 troops will be dispatched alongside those of East Moreland and possible Sverige in order to bring the "NAR" under a neutral control prior to a referendum taking place.

The move has brought criticism of Sunbrek who some believe is violating the nations long standing tradition of the nation remaining neutral and our forces being used purely for self defence. A spokesman for the military however said, "We are the ideal force for this situation, our neutrality is legendary and we have never fought a war within the last 100 years. There is no nation better qualified to enter this conflict zone and be objective."

It is expected that as soon as the conference chaired by Princess Sreenity comes to an end that the UNPDF will deploy.

MUNDUS VOYAGER FINDS SHIPWRECK

The Union of Nordic People's semi submerged science vessel Mundus Voyager has discovered an unrecorded shipwreck close to Hygelac. The Mundus Voyager had finished conducting research around the Antarctic region and was returning to Uppsala when a crew member spotted what they thought was an outline of a ship. The vessel changed course to position itself above and attempted to discover the identity of the vessel. The team onboard used state of the art remote video equipment to examine the wreck before sending down a remote submersible. The scientific leader of the operation was Dr.Thomas Dormbe who believes this may be a substantial find. "So far we've been unable to work out what ship it is, the wood has been quiet badly damaged and no name is immediately visible, we've been in touch with teams back home who are experts in naval history and we believe that the vessel could actually be as old as the 1500's."

The team are expected to begin conducting specialist dives in the next few days and have postponed their return to Uppsala. The UNP Air Force have also been asked to help fly extra supplies and personnel out to the Mundus Voyager. Education Spokesperson Angela Vendell has also said that the attempts to solve the mystery of the ship will be streamed to all schools in the UNP and made available to students around the world. "Once again this policy shows our nations commitment to helping improve the knowledge, understanding and love of learning of a wide variety of subjects."

The Mundus Voyager was due to return to Uppsala and pick up a multi-national team for a more prolonged voyage.

PAN ALBION CONGRESS AMBASSADOR GRANTED ASYLUM

The Ministry for Home Affairs confirmed today that Sir David Cole, the ambassador to the Pan-Albion Congress, from Tytor has applied for asylum following a coup in his nation. In addition it was also confirmed that the Head of Longhouse, Willa Sunbrek had stepped in and personally granted the application approval. Speaking after attending a session of the Longhouse our nations Head of State said, "Tytor's coup is a bolt out of the blue, I don't think any of us believed anything like this would happen, the people do not seem to have been up in arms about anything which leads us to believe that this is not the will of the people. We will do whatever we can to ensure people like Sir David do not have to face the dangers of returning to a country with an uncertain future. I would ask any citizens of Tytor in the Union who feel it unsafe to return home to go to their nearest police station, government or council office, make their presence in the Union known as request asylum, we will ensure their applications are dealt with as a priority."

So far the Pan-Albion Congress have made very little public reaction beyond speaking about the asylum issue for staff from Tytor.

STRAND RESIGNS FOLLOWING SECRETARY GENERAL BID

Long serving Union of Nordic People Foreign Minister Birgit Strand yesterday resigned to clear her path for an application as Secretary General of the Commonwealth Treaty Organisation. The former minister will however remain a member of the Longhouse until the outcome of the vote is known. The 42 year old has been a member of the Longhouse for the last eight years having first been a member of the Riksdag for a further 6 years. Strand became foreign minister in the cabinet of Willa Sunbrek after she was elected Head of Longhouse following the Gungnir Crisis, previously she had served as Junior Minister under Helene Oman and Peter Knutsson's administration.

Speaking following her resignation Strand said, "This is an exciting opportunity for myself and the Union. Our nation has a long history of being neutral in international politics and we have often used this to help bring about resolutions to conflict, I'd like to think I have helped contribute to that in many ways, most noticeably the talks between CSTO and Warsaw and the writing of the Uppsala Convention. I realise that this will be a challenge to gain this post as Princess Serenity has been very politically active for someone of her age and enjoys the support of her nations many allies, something we lack. I wish to thank Willa Sunbrek for agreeing to nominate me, it's been a great privilege working alongside someone I consider not only a great leader for our nation but also a dear friend."

Strand's final task as Foreign Minister was attending the Krokom Winter Festival where an agreement was reached for East Moreland's Red Legion to continue in their role of helping train the UNP Special Forces, a partnership the Minister of Defence has described as "amazingly beneficial."

MARDUK MOON DRILLING BEGINS

The Joint Nordic Space Program Ice Drill probe has safely arrived on the Marduk moon of Europa and has started drilling. The probe is equipped with specialist equipment that will allow it to heat the ice that forms much of the planets surface and inject the hot water down into the hole it drills. It is expected that in two months time the probe will have drilled through the ice and into what is believed to an ocean below.

Once access to the ocean has been made the probe will deploy equipment to collect data and samples which may reveal that life exists below the icey surface.

STRAND CLOSE TO BEING NAMED NEW CTO SECRETARY GENERAL

With only a few hours left before voting closes former Foreign Minister Birgit Strand looks set to be named the new Secretary General of the Commonwealth Treaty Organisation. The 43 year old will be the first woman to hold the prestigious position as well as the first Nord. The former Minister has been part of many key global initiatives including drafting the Uppsala Convention as well as being part of the delegation which mediated talks between the CSTO and the former Warsaw Pact.

Should she be successful she will be taking up office in Rokkenjima for the next few years. She has already voiced her ideas to local press saying, " We have seen very slow, uncoordinated actions in recent months on a number of issues, we saw nothing beyond a statement from the CTO on the refugee crisis, when Zimalia Fever broke out there was no action I am aware of by the CTO, I mean the Borlanders have been able to claim being the humanitarians with that one. I believe we need to have an ability to act swiftly in some circumstances, and there is much day to day work to be done in some fields. If I am successful I will attempt to create within the CTO two specialist agencies, one to help promote better health care and one to aid in refugees. If my proposals go ahead these bodies would have the power to act swiftly in emergencies as well as being responsible to the CTO. I also feel that we have many non-member nations who presently view the organisation in a negative light, I think if these two new bodies are opened up to membership independently of the CTO we will see wider co-operation internationally."

It is believed that Strand already has already drafted the documents and is poised to present them in the coming days regardless of the outcome.

ADAMSSON NAMED NEW FOREIGN SECRETARY

Njord Adamsson was today named as the nations new Foreign Secretary, the 62 year old former Deputy Head of the Longhouse was appointed by the Head of Longhouse Willa Sunbrek yesterday. As a former member of Peter Knutsson's cabinet the Sauli native has a wealth of experience and was thought keen to get back into politics after resigning following the Gungnir Crisis. Speaking from outside the Riksdag building Adamsson said, "I'm proud to be asked to once again serve my nation, truth be told I've felt slightly bored writing books and when I was asked by Willa to take this post I accepted straight away."

Adamsson has spent the last two years working as a guest lecturer at Unboldt University while writing several books about international relations. Before entering politics he worked as a Customs Investigator in Uppsala where for a time he was in charge of the investigations department.

CTO SECRETARY-GENERAL'S PROPOSALS AT VOTE

The Union of Nordic People's Birgit Strand is about to make major changes to the Commonwealth Treaty Organisation. Strand took the position just a few weeks ago and has currently two proposals moving through the General Assembly, the first being the creation of the Mundus Health Organisation and the second the creation of the Mundus Refugee Council. In addition Strand is currently undertaking a series of goodwill tours of Luvonia and Arendesia aimed at helping the organisation grow.

Speaking as she landed in Luvonia Strand said, "CTO exists to try and make the world a more peaceful place, that is all well and good, however just because nations aren't going to war it doesn't mean life automatically gets better for all. In the modern world we face significant health challenges, be it things such as access to clean water as Mundus' population increases or growing resistance to anti-biotics, sooner or later we will face crisis point should nations work independently, if we are to tackle this issue it must be with a broad coalition of nations and that is what we hope to create with the Mundus Health Organisation. The CTO's response to the refugee crisis was at best woeful, too many people died in confused situations, we need to be more pro-active, JET have literally been handling things on a shoe string, I hope this new refugee agency will not take over their work but rather compliment it, allow JET to concentrate on what they do best which is help those in need while us politicians here in CTO take care of the diplomatic side of things."

Strand also spoke how she had hoped the new Security Council members would have taken steps to begin discussions about the current Enlightenment situation however to date no resolutions have been made prompting the Secretary General to say, "While I am in Luvonia I may well get the drafting pen out."

HEAD OF LONGHOUSE GREEN LIGHTS HYGELAC EXPEDITION

Willa Sunbrek the Head of Longhouse has given the go ahead to a team of scientists and researchers to set up a expedition base in Hygelac. The expedition will cost approximately $150million, and will see the creation of a research station as well as the first team of scientists spending a year on the ice there carrying out a variety of tasks from building the base to experiments about weather and climate amongst other things. The nations ambassador to the Pan Albion Congress has also extended the invitation to other members.

The expedition would be lead by Arctic Warfare Training Centre (AWTC) instructor Captain Sven Svensson who said, "This is a golden opportunity for the Pan Albion Congress to promote regional activity, we have a golden opportunity here to land a multi-national team on the ice and do something that has never been done before for the benefit of science rather than imperialism or national gain. Its an exciting mission but a challenging one."

MUNDUS HEALTH ORGANISATION FORMED

Following a successful vote in the Commonwealth Treaty Organisations General Assembly the resolution written by Birgit Strand to form the Mundus Health Organisation (MHO) has passed. The newly created body will be tasked with proactively improving the health of Mundus. The organisation now has its official charter and Secretary-General Birgit Strand has begun searching for a candidate to be the first leader of the organisation. To date there has been only one aplication to become the Lead Health Advisor of the MHO, a doctor from Toshikawa.

Strand, who is now in Luvonia said, "I'm delighted this passed, its a project that the people at the Joint Emergency Team convinced me t push forward and I'm glad the rest of the word appears to share in the ambition to help improve people's health globally."

LHC TO USE APP TO CHECK DATA

The Large Hadron Collider at Dorotea may have discovered a previously-unknown particle. While continued analysis of the results is necessary the particle could be a number of things, like a heavier version of the Higgs Boson, the so-called 'god particle' which makes up the theorised field which gives mass to objects across the universe. It could also be a graviton, a hypothetical particle which if discovered would prove a long-standing theory about what imparts gravity. The discovery was made by analysing the rate of decay of gamma rays produced during collisions with the LHC. The project features the first major discovery since the LHC has been turned up to full speed, a point at which the team in Dorotea believe will bring the biggest breakthroughs.

Dr.Ravesson the project co-ordinator said, "We have clearly found something, its very early days to say we've found a completely new particle but as a scientist I can say I'm extremely excited, for all we know what we have found could be one of the keys to understanding the Universe." The team have so far collected over 1,000 hours worth of collisions which will take several months to work through, however it is likely Munde, a Union based software company may be able to help. The company have developed a game app which asks users to spot patterns within collisions, the more people who use the app the quicker the team can sort through data. Dr.Ravesson said, "This app is something we're experimenting with it won't replace the scientists, the thing is however these decay patterns take hours to sort, if we have thousands of pairs of eyes looking for patterns and move the ones multiple users identify to the top of the cue we can speed up the recognition perhaps, we certainly don't have anything to lose and with luck we may encourage some more people to take an interest in our project."

UNP 3 - EAST MORELAND 0

In the teams final World Cup Qualifier the Union's team defeated East Moreland 3-0. In a game that saw both sides make extensive changes throughout the game the Union came out on top following two goals by Lukas Stomberg and one by new cap Robin Ljund. The team looked sharp as they fought for their place on the plane to Sparta where the team have been drawn in the same group as neighbours Nya Åland meaning the two sides will face each other for the first time. Speaking after the game team coach Magnus Ravelli said, "I think we've had some good preparation, the Morelanders put in a good performance but I think their lack of professionals let them down, add to that the superior fitness of our boys and I had always expected us to come out on top, I just hope this lifts the team's confidence before the tournament."

The Union will face former team-mates who are lining up for the Nya Åland team as well as Dijel and Arendesia in what is sure to be a tough group.

LONGBOAT TWO SENDS BACK UNIQUE IMAGES

The Longboat Two probe which left the solar system some time ago having completed its fly by of the planets was expected to spend the rest of its days photographing stars beyond our system. It was expected that it would lose ability to transmit at some point in the next two years, however if that is the last transmission from the probe then its leaving on a high. The probe has in the last two months sent ba ck two unique images of black holes. The first is of a pair of supermassive black holes, circling each other within a single galaxy after a big merger event (headline photo). The uniqueness comes from only one of the pair is surrounded by the usual bright, spherical clump of gravitationally bound stars, something of a mystery. "The answer may lie in the galaxy merger itself," said Dr.Klempfer of the JNSP, "When two galaxies merge, there are very strong gravitational and tidal forces that can strip away the stars from around the black hole. Alternatively, the star-starved black hole may simply belong to a very rare, intermediate class - much smaller than the usual supermassive monsters that sit at the centre of big galaxies. In that case, one of the galaxies that went into the merger must have only been a dwarf galaxy. Maybe this small sphere of stars is actually appropriate for an intermediate-mass black hole, there are very few of these known - they are very rare and hard to find - but they're interesting because we think they may be an evolutionary stopover in the process of building supermassive black holes." Clearly the JNSP is very excited about this image and the data they received, sadly they are unable to change course to study further. "By the time we could get any instructions to Longboat it would be to late to do anything, it takes us 17 hours just to get one simple piece of data or instruction to travel between ourselves and the probe and vice versa.

The second image that has come through is what scientists are calling a "Blackhole Burp" two waves of hot x-ray filled gas appear to be seen sweeping cooler hydrogen gas ahead of them. It is believed that the black hole and its galaxy may have a feedback system which prevents a galaxy becoming too large while alternatively making Black Holes forces of creation and not just destruction in the stars. The two images and the data have, like all JNSP data, been made available to the public and the scientific community for free use.

TWO YEAR COMET FLIGHT PLANNED

The Joint Nordic Space Programme (JNSP) today announced that it intends to launch its latest mission by the end of next week. Plans for the CFF (Comet Formation Flight) have been underway for the past 18 months and the green light has now been given. Dr.Klempfer of the JNSP said, "It was a close run thing, this mission has a very narrow window of opportunity as comets and asteroids don't hang around for ever, we got the OK from the engineering team this morning and now everythings a little manic."

The CFF will take off from Dorotea and fly past a 88km long asteroid dropping off several pieces of equipment including what may be the worlds first asteroid webcam. "It is our hope that we can land this movable camera on the asteroid as a means of testing systems, in the meantime we intend to see if we can run the feed live on the web and make it available to everyone." Following it's fly by the CFF will fall into a flight pattern alongside Comet Kopff and fly within 10km of it for a planned two year mission. "This is precsion flying at its best" Dr. Klempfer said, "We will also be deploying landers onto the comet"

Dr.Klempfer was then asked about the supposed Achkaerin mission and claims by many that it is a hoax, he however said, "Excuse me I have some science to concentrate on."

FINAL EDITION

Today marks the final ever edition of the Nordic News, a paper that has for close to a hundred years been the Union of Nordic People's biggest selling daily newspaper. Today once these final few copies have been printed our presses will be closed and our office locked, although for the last week our office has been home to refugees from across our nation, these shall remain, the journalists shall not. In a world of financial challenges for print media it was not financial troubles that have closed us down, it was instead our nation breaking under the strain of the largest disaster to hit Mundus. The death total of those killed by the meteor strike is in the tens of millions and each day that number creeps up, anarchy is rife on our streets as the Gungnir have tried to take the opportunity to spread their hate filled brand of fake Odinism, people are starving, people can't escape and disease is rife. Our armed forces have attempted to respond but with no government their brave efforts have been for nothing and hundreds, if not thousands of them have died in attempts to protect the citizens of Uppsala and the surrounding area. Every day ever descreasing hand fulls of survivors from outside the state capital have wandered into Uppsala looking for help, only to find a battle raging on the streets.

Late last night however that fight by the Union was over, the white flag of surrender raised, not to the Gungnir, but to our neighbours in Nya Åland, not to a conquering army but to a dear friend stepping into the breach. At 11:30pm acting leader of the Union General Swedberg signed a document which made the Union the territory of Nya Åland , the logic behind it simple, in its current form the Union could do little, we have no Head of Longhouse to officially deal with the international community, no cabinet to issue instructions and manage efforts, the police can't use courts as the judiciary is largely gone. By becoming part of Nya Åland the people have a chance. Even as we speak Nya Åland's army is flooding into Uppsala, the police being issued with new powers, courts reopening to deal with looters and criminals taking advantage of the situation. Head Gothi Daniel Stenberg is our new head of state and has the ability to co-ordinate with the international community, not that the international community has taken much notice. So at 11:30pm the Union and Nya Åland became one again, this time the majority joining the breakaway. The flag was lowered from the Riksdag, however no flag was raised in its place as the building is now longer a government building.

In a freezer of the Riskdag sits a body, one among many, Glen Hysen, Freda Malstrom, Gustav Araonsson and then Willa Sunbrek, her body sits among around 1,000 found in the first moments of the disaster, a fitting end to a life of someone who always put the citizens of the Union before herself. In her short time as leader of the Union she did remarkable things, first as Acting Head of Longhouse she was part of the team that drafted the Mundus Convention of Universal Rights, just hours after her mentor and friend Peter Knutsson had died in a bomb blast, she co-authored the Uppsala Convention with close friend Brigid Strand and the government of East Moreland and when the world sat on the verge of wars it was Sunbrek who offered an alternative. She made herself a useful and caring member of the international community, yet her nation now sits deserted by the very people she tried to serve as a friend to all.

As the black and white cross of the Union fell for what may be the final time it was left to former CTO Secretary-General and close friend of Willa Sunbrek to have the final words, words that will be viewed as many as the last spoke in the Union. It is with these words that we finish our final edition, wish all Nords well and thank you for reading.

Birgid Strand

I have always viewed myself as a Nord, it broke my heart when I saw my homeland of the Union split when Nya Åland became independent, you may think that strange, but as a joint national of the Union and Nya Åland it was like being a child in a divorce. I had to think long and hard about which way to turn, to remain a Unionist or go with the Ålanders, I hoped and prayed one day the marriage would be back on. However I never envisaged that coming about in this way and now my heartbreaks again.

This flag lowers today in hopes that the people who have lived under it raise once more. For that to happen we have a long road to recovery, and one that I believe we must walk largely alone. I was proud to be the Secretary-General of the CTO, and I was proud that we had created an organisation that grew under my leadership, I became the first Secretary-General to officially visit other nations and we created the Mundus Health Organisation and Refugee Council, two organisations that should have helped here, yet only half did. The CTO is made up of the best part of 20 nations, all of which dedicated themselves to achieve international co-operation in solving international problems , yet here today before me just South Hills, East Moreland and Achkaerin have come to the call. Refugee Council Chairman Tim Carpenter established the CTO Uppsala Response Team and three, just three nations came forward, that is an embarrassment that the CTO need to address. This organisation today loses a member and yet its inactive response means I suspect no one will notice or care.

It is vital that now we pull together as Ålanders and save as many people as possible, let us remember that we are descendents of the mighty Vikings and that we must banish all fear. We shall overcome this and we shall make Åland great again.
