had my first leaflet through the door today in the run up to the European Parliament elections. From an independent candidate who looks very much like a UKIP wannabe.

http://www.cllrchrispain.com/#!policies/c1ra1

I've e-mailed this guy a load of questions as he seems to be confused about his power as a MEP and the powers of an MP. So for example as someone representing me to the European Parliament he is going to "Increase police on the beat"

Just wondered how my fellow Brits are thinking in the run up to May 22nd.

Have you seen their electoral clip? Difficult to describe the first minute:

Yeah very cheap, very old video footage. Trying to sound scary.

I really want to 'Snopes' that video. The number of incorrect facts or simple blatant lies. One thing really grinds my gears: "Stop HS2 which will cost £100 billion"

What? Where have they plucked that figure from? If you include the £10 billion contingency addition it comes to a total of 42-43 billion - HALF their figure!

I'll probably end up voting Liberal Democrats this year, mainly because I like my local MEP (Catherine Bearder MEP), who I met on a number of occasions.

For those undecided, I would strongly recommend going to the Bite the Ballot website to read up on the EU elections, and to see who would best represent you!

Well I posted the gentleman this e-mail

Dear Councillor Pain

Having received your election leaflet through my door today I have a few questions I would like to know the answer to having looked at your website.

1. You claim you are against HS2. As an MEP how do you think you can stop the High Speed Rail (London-West Midlands) Bill 2013-2014, which has recently passed its second reading in the House of Commons?

2. As the DfID sets foreign aid budgets how do you propose as an MEP to "transfer foreign aid to UK citizens" How do you define those "in need?"

3. Why do you support Swiss style referendums on all issues that concern and effect the general public. Surely all laws passed fall into this category. In the period 2012-2013 over 300 bills were presented for vote before Parliament, holding Swiss style referendum would surely be impossible, so how would you define those that concern and effect the general public?

4. As a teacher I know how precious our time with students it. Studies have shown that a student who has less than 95% attendance drops on average 1 grade at GCSE in each subject for every 5% of attendance they fall. By allowing parents to take students out of school for ten days you are allowing students to miss 5% of the school year with permission. Why do you feel this is necessary? Also as The Education (School Day and School Year) (England) Regulations 1999 are an Act of Parliament not European Parliament how will you as an MEP make this happen?

5. While I agree with your policies on University education and would also like to see an improvement in pensions where will the extra funding come from?

6. How as an MEP will you ensure that there are more Police on the beat in the village of Shirland, Derbyshire where I live?

7. How would you establish a British power company , where will the funding come from and from where will they acquire their electricity.

Thank you for taking the time to answer these questions.

Within an hour I got an e-mail back signed on the guys behalf by his secretary saying he is currently "out campaigning" but will reply as soon as possible. I look forward to his response.

That's my thoughts, but I had time on my hands and I like the idea of being Paxman.
