Standing Order No. 1

1) The Deputy Speaker shall be appointed by the Speaker with the consent of the Senate, and shall serve at the pleasure of the Speaker.
2) The Deputy Speaker shall assist the Speaker in his duties, and shall carry out the duties of the Speaker in the absence of the Speaker.
3) Should the office of the Speaker be vacated before the end of a Senatorial term, the Deputy Speaker shall organize and manage the election of a new Speaker.
