I watched Stalingrad(1993) yesterday and came to the conclusion that this movie is the best ww2 movie of all time. This or The Thin Red Line, but if I had to choose i'd go with Stalingrad. It's gritty, dark, realistic, accurate and depressing as hell, i can say that this is as close a movie will every get to the actual battle. I also love it because it's a movie that follows German soldiers and shows a very emotional human aspect of war on both german and russian sides(i teared up at the end). It doesn't depict germans as eveil nazi drones like in every other movie. On another note, Call of Duty 2 is amazing, i'll go fire up my orginal xbox now ![]() |

I've got to say Downfall, I haven't watched it for a while but it's about four and a half hours of Hitler's final days in German (with English subtitles) add in some of the best acting I've seen and it's a heck of a film.

There are just so many. Das Boot, Battle of Britain, Tora Tora Tora, Bridge on the River Kwai, A Bridge Too Far, The Longest Day, heck even The Devils Brigade and The Dirty Dozen Paschendale is WWI but its a must watch as well. I loved Downfall Oh and BF4 is ten times better than any CoD. Edited by Rhodes, 18th July 2014 - 09:03 PM.

Downfall and Das Boot are probably some of the best films I've seen. Enemy at the Gates is also excellent. Edited by Matthew Vinage, 7th August 2014 - 08:07 AM.

Well the best ones are all gone by now. I second das Boot and Downfall, and Enemy at the Gates was also good. I can't really stand most american war movies, since they often are kinda murrica, even if they try not to be. And most of WW2 movies never manage to get anyone that speaks german straight and correct, or even free of accents. The Guns of Navaronne are of cause an awesome movie, that shows an often overseen part of the conflict. I also like Die grünen Teufel von Monte Cassino, but I guess it has never made it to an international version. I also like Rekvijem, which is an Yugoslawian WW2 movie, but plot and camera work are definetely western. The Great Escape is great of course and Where Eagles Dare too. One thing that always annoys me (besides the lousy german) are these constant mistakes with uniforms and ranks. If I hear another POW from the US call an Obersturmbannführer Major things will happen... Edited by El Presidente, 10th March 2015 - 05:34 PM.

eh hem the best WW2 movie of all time hands down is Schindler's list if you want a movie that has minimal fighting yet oozing with story its this movie and the story of a man who used his power in Germany to SAVE as MANY JEWS as POSSIBLE even if those reasons are pragmatic.

Man I loved "Enemy at the gates". The soundtrack was epic and the setting was done perfectly. The opening scene was one of the best, te river crossing to stalingrad, music and scenery matched exactly.
