So, I'm intending to start my nation's emergency elections to decide upon a new president, councilors, etc. What would the be proper subforum to play this out? Events? Portray it as a series of news broadcasts and put it in International News Networks? Somewhere else?

Either one. It mostly depends on whether or not you want forum participation.

I did my elections on here a while ago and got the region involved, I enjoyed doing it and for me I thought it was a good way to get my nation established.

I did it in a few steps, first I came up with my parties and wrote a brief bit about each in my factbook. This gave me a brief outline of them. I went with six, but I think if you have three it works well in opening up to the region.

I then wrote a vignette series as though each holding a public meeting with their supporters and giving a speech.

I then opened a separate thread in the Diplomacy and Events page and made it clear everyone was welcome to vote and also if they wished ask a question to the parties, as though part of a TV debate. I also posted a mini manifesto for each party.

This the thread where I posted the election stuff itself. here

I was happy with the level of participation from others and enjoyed doing it but I like political stuff. I'm not saying mine is the only way to do it but it may help. I know a few others have also tried open elections and without wanting to sound critical I think some made mistakes with them. I've summarised them below.

1. Only open it up to the region to get involved if your willing to accept whatever the result is. If you have a winner you want then just RP it that way yourself.

2. Make sure the parties have differences and similarities, in reality political parties do.

3. Give people some insight into your nation so they can vote in character rather than for how they would in real life. I suspect otherwise my ultra-nationalists wouldn't have got any votes yet they got a few as I'd RP a raising anti-immigration sentiment in some people of my nation.

Hope that helps.
