August 20th, 2014. Tristan Barbett makes an announcement. "Today I declare that the Tristantian Government shall recognize all genders and sexual orientations as valid, and encourage scientific research in both subjects. Everybody deserves to be recognized as who they are, and not what society tells them to be." Some speculate that Tristan focuses too much on LGBT issues, causing them to believe Tristan may be a member of the LGBT community. Cancer treatments being tested - high success rate! Distribution centers can now be found every 20 square miles, ensuring that you can get access to resources wherever you are. Solar panel production is up 30% since last year. Green Energy now powers 48% of Tristantia! Tristantia expects to be off coal and nuclear by July 2015! Energy usage reduction: 12% Vehicles are still in shortage, but the government believes the increase in recycled metals will solve the shortage soon. Tristan Barbett decrees Patents and Copyrights are no longer recognized in Tristantia. - 82% of Tristantians support this action. Arma Loka, a children's author, says "This decree only works one way - we still have the problem of being able to use content from other countries. Tristantia has to pay publishers in other countries to get our books out there, I just want our books to be available for anyone! The international community is hindering progress and culture by not repealing ancient copyright and patent laws!!" Tristan Barbett decrees that Genetically Modified Organisms must be labeled before distribution, importation, or exportation. - 100% of Tristantians support this action. Jarmo Shalworth, a geneticist, says "I'm glad Tristan made the right choice and decreed this. It's important that people know what they are consuming and the dangers that could be involved." Tristan Barbett decrees that religion shall not be taught in state run schools, and that all scientific theories be explained. - 64% of Tristantians support this action. Thomas Ale, Pope of the church of Modern Catholicism, says "This is blasphemy! It's our duty to spread the good news to everyone! The Lord will not be pleased." Tristan Barbett decrees that whistle-blowers from any country will be granted asylum in Tristantia. - 99% of Tristantians support this action. Edguardo Snowpa, a whistleblower from UNNA, "This decree will encourage whistle-blowers from around the world to flee here and reveal information, which is good - but what's going to happen when all the countries are mad at Tristantia for harboring what they call 'criminals'?" THA (Tristantian Hackers Alliance) pledges to protect Tristantia from cyber attacks, attack systems that censor internet content, and develop faster technology. Tidal energy units have been installed in the Mhorish Sea! This will increase energy production in 2015 by 12%, meaning that we will be able to de-activate 2 nuclear power stations! Robotic Labor Group of Tristantia states that within 2 years they will have Mining Robots to automate mining. Because copyright and patents no longer apply in Tristantia, Winformatia, an online encyclopedia, has published 4.1 Terrabytes of content that can now be publicly viewed online. Winformatia founder Michael Minst says "Our site is sure to be censored in many countries now, but we have faith that THA is developing ways to circumvent censorship - allowing anyone in the world to access information that could improve health, scientific and technological advancement, and make people more aware of what's really going on." |
