Viva La Revolution! You have probably been wondering where we have been since October of 2014. Well, we are here to tell you what happened and why we we not able to publish The Times. After the end of the Safraen conflict, the Verovian people were concerned about the allegations of war crimes committed by our military and government. After investigation, it was discovered that former Emperor Ivan I and Minister of Defense Pyotr Brook had ordered the mass murders that Verover was associated with. Immediately, our people were shocked, as we thought the allegations were propaganda against the government. After many days, people began to meet with each other in secret and began the planning of the coup. The leader of the coup, Minister of International Affairs Victor Voronstov, announced the coup to the people through our publication. Once this was released all media was banned by the Nazi government. Then, the revolution began. People were rioting in the streets, the local police were in combat against the military, and there were brawls in the Senate. On December 20, the Emperor was captured in a riot that occurred in the capital city of Hoofstadt. He was immediately sent to the Black Site, the main prison in Verover. A week later, a republic was announced by the newly elected President, Victor Voronstov. The flag was changed from the Fascist Swastika to the Flag of the Draak, used by our ancestors before the state of Verover was founded. Ships that were personally christened by the Emperor (a lot) were scrapped as well as vehicles and weapons produced during the Imperial Age. The Republic of Verover has been established, and may it survive until the end of all days. Да здравствует республика |

One of the Flags Currently Being ProposedA New Flag? Verovians are being given the opportunity to design a new national flag. The ideas will be put to a panel tasked with whittling down entries into a shortlist, ready for a special referendum later in the week. Those contributing to the competition are asked to first consider what the flag signifies to them, and reflect on the opinions of others shared on the government website. After Verovians have considered what they want the flag to represent, they can upload entries to a dedicated website. Internal Minister Vitaly Zdorovetskiy seized the chance to push the project at the annual Victory Day on May 9, during which Verovians mark the beginning of the Verovian nation state. He previously argued that the current flag, the Ancient Flag, harks back to the country's bygone account and imperial era. In order to choose the final product, voters will take part in a two-stage postal vote which will firstly see them rank alternative flags. This will be followed by a second ballot in, when voters will decide whether to keep the nation’s current flag, or opt for a fresh look. The results will be posted on the Times this Friday. Shine Bright Like a Diamond A diamond weighing 76.07 carats was mined by Alrosa, one of the world's largest producers of diamonds. The company plans to put the rare gem up for auction at a price of more than $430,000. Despite diamonds of this size being extremely rare, this is the fourth big stone found in the Yubileynaya diamond field in the last two years. The crystal is transparent with a yellowish tinge and has in the form of an octahedron, the company reported. The crystal has small inclusions of olivine in the peripheral part and a discoid crack filled with graphite-sulfide composition on its surface. In December 2014 Alrosa sold a diamond weighing 47.5 carats for $1.8 million at Sotheby's with a starting price of $900,000. The diamond was made of a crystal weighing 128.44 carats, and was also found in Yakutia. The company plans to sell 40 million carats of diamonds in 2015 (compared to 36 million carats in 2014). Alrosa accounts for about 25 percent of world diamond production and 95 percent of all diamonds mined in Verover. Edited by Verover, 16th March 2016 - 02:28 AM.

Inequality Greater Than Most of us Think: According to Unions The nation believes that the richest 20 percent of the population own 57 percent of the assets, while the poorest 60 percent have to make do with 23 percent, according the results of the representative poll of 1,002 people. That sounds like an unequal distribution but the reality is much more harsh, the Federation of Trade Unions (SGB) and the Unia union said in an online report on Monday. Data from the federal tax administration shows that the richest fifth of the country own 86 percent of the assets, the union group said. The poorest 60 percent of the population, meanwhile, own just four percent of the assets.b“People have much too rosy a picture of the distribution of wealth in (Verover),” Daniel Lampart, SGB chief economist said in a video produced by the union group. One fifth of the population has trouble making ends meet at the end of the month while others live in abundance, Lampart said. People are entitled to be angry with this injustice and it has nothing to do with envy, the unions say. The SGB information coincides with a campaign in support of an initiative for a federal inheritance tax of 20 percent on assets of two million gelds or more, as well as on donations of more than 20,000 gelds. Citizens will decide on the proposal in a national referendum on The last Sunday of May. The initiative makes exceptions and tax reductions in cases involving the transfer of family businesses. Supporters say the tax would generate three billion gelds a year in revenues, two-thirds of which would go to helping finance the national pension scheme (AHV) with the remainder going to the states. The SGB maintains the tax would also slow the growth of wealth being concentrated into a few hands. Edited by Verover, 12th May 2015 - 05:03 PM.

![]() New Military White Paper Announced One of the distinguishing characteristics of Victor Voronstov's presidency has been his commitment to revitalizing Verover's military. Voronstov, who has noted that Verover's perceived weakness makes it vulnerable to external pressure and internal disruption, is pushing for increased funding to transform the Verovian armed forces from the debilitated remnants inherited from the old Imperial superpower military machine into a smaller (but not too small), but more modern, mobile, technologically advanced and capable twenty-first century force. In April, in an address delivered on the day devoted to the “defenders of the Fatherland,” the president proclaimed: “Ensuring Verover has a reliable military force is the priority of our state policy. Unfortunately, the present world is far from being peaceful and safe. Long obsolete conflicts are being joined by new, but no less difficult, ones. Instability is growing in vast regions of the world.” This is not empty talk. The rhetoric has been matched by a concurrent allocation of resources; Verover is now engaged in its largest military buildup since the beginning of the Verovian Empire more than two hundred years ago, with major increases in defense spending budgeted each year to 2020. In a recent speech, Voronstov stated his end goal for the military. "A million men under arms. Thousands of new tanks and planes. A hundred new satellites. Next-generation weapons. That is what we need for our armed forces." Below is a list of the the new military hardware that the Republic will be acquiring in the coming months. Also, be sure to check the results of the May referendum soon to see wether or not these vehicles and equipment will be adopted by our nation. (EXPECT LIST TONIGHT) Edited by Verover, 14th May 2015 - 07:33 PM.

![]() ![]() Bombing in The Capital: Nobody Hurt A bomb exploded at the Buitstadt branch of the Maze Bank in the early hours of Monday morning, but police said no one was injured. The device went off shortly after 4am, police said, ripping out a large part of the bank’s wall. They said they were looking for a motorcyclist who drove off from the scene, but gave no indication of any possible motive for the attack. A shopkeeper near the site told us about reports a homeless person was told to move from the area prior to the blast. There are also other banks nearby, including the next-door branch of Buitstadt Bank, which was also damaged. Some theorize that the blast could have been triggered by the Enlightenment, a multinational terrorist group behind the string of bombings in Supreme Sovereignty. Others think that this was an intimidation tactic to scare people from voting in Sunday's referendum. We will update you on the story as it develops. |

First Phase of Re-Armament Complete Today, the first phase of the Verovian Armed Forces re-armament program was completed. The first phase contained many anticipated changes, including new uniforms, small arms, and crew-served equipment. It is difficult to describe and show these changes in writing, so our staff decided to show you all of the changes in Phase One in the official Verover Factbook (check it out). We will be reporting next week on phase two, armored vehicles. Verover Tourism Department Touts 1,600km Grand Tour Verover Tourism Department hopes to bring them here, and has developed a 1,600km “Grand Tour” of the country’s top 100 highlights, like the old town of Blenheim with its terracotta rooftops, or the long, snowy ribbon of the Aletsch Glacier. “We have a lot to offer in Verover – the variety on a small scale is amazing. In Verover if you travel an hour, you learn a new language, you experience a new scenery and culture. And so we said Verover is perfect for touring,” Verover Tourism Director Gregor Schmid told us. It took three years to develop the tour in cooperation with all the project partners. One target audience would be travellers from Rokkenjima. “There’s no doubt it is something that – if packaged correctly – could resonate everywhere in the world. It’s a great combination of the known as well as the unknown parts of Verover, and I think that’s what customers are looking for,” the Department told us. |

New Destroyer to be Built ![]() A new class of destroyer for the Verovian Navy is currently under development by the Krylov State Research Center (KSRC), IHS Jane's was told during a visit to the company. The new design is called Project 23560E or Shkval (Squall), KSRC's deputy director, Valery Polyakov, who added that a scale model of the design is going to be exhibited for the first time during the Maritime Defence Show 2015 in Buitstadt. "The Project 23560E destroyer is intended to conduct operations in off-shore maritime and oceanic zones, to destroy land and naval targets, to provide combat stability to naval forces, to maintain area anti-air and anti-missile defence, and to complete peacetime tasks in all zones of the world's oceans," said Polyakov. The Project 23560E destroyer has full-load displacement of 15,000-18,000 tons, a length of 200 m, beam of 23 m, draft of 6.6 m, high speed of 32 kt, cruise speed of 20 kt, endurance of 90 days, and a crew of 250-300. The destroyer is intended to be powered by a gas turbine engine. It is proposed to be fitted with a battle management system integrated with tactical and operational-tactical ACSs. The destroyer's armament comprises 60-70 anti-ship or anti-land cruise missiles, 128 surface-to-air missiles (SAMs), and 16-24 anti-submarine missiles. The ship is also equipped with a 130 mm multipurpose naval gun. The destroyer's integrated electronic package includes a multi-functional phased array radar, electronic warfare subsystem, communications suite, underwater reconnaissance system. The aviation wing consists of two utility helicopters. These specifications could all be changed to suit customer requirements however, Polyakov stated. Verover To Change Customs Rules The president has asked the government to prepare a law to deal with products imported to Verover that violate the reciprocal ban. The food would be destroyed on the border, instead of being sent back. The measure was suggested by Agriculture Secretary Aleksandr Tkachev. On Friday, he asked Voronstov and the government to change the laws so Verovian customs could immediately destroy contraband instead of sending it back to the country of origin. “Let us agree with the minister’s proposal. I ask the administration and the government to look into the issue together with lawyers and put forward the appropriate decisions,” Voronstov said. |

![]() ![]() The Capital Destroyed: 10,000 Dead and 300,000 Hurt After widespread riots last night in the capital city of Hoofstadt regarding the recent outbreak of an unknown virus, anarchists set the city ablaze hoping to gain more followers in the chaos. But, the fires went out of control burning the entire city to the ground. Officials say that there are 10,000 dead and 300,000 hurt so far and are still counting the casualties. The destruction of the city has left millions homeless and the nation without a capitol. The city of Petrograd is going to serve as the temporary capitol. A new capitol city will be chosen in the National Referenda tomorrow. The Government has asked that all people remain calm until more emergency responders arrive on the scene. |

We Are Back! Verovians and the people of Mundus, we are glad to announce that The Times have moved into our new offices in Petrograd and are ready to resume our regular broadcasting and publishing schedules. We are truly sorry for any inconveniences that we may have caused during our absence. Without further ado, lets get right into the news! Petrograd Pharmacies and Pot On Monday the city government announced it had commissioned the Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine (ISPM) to research the effects of selling cannabis in pharmacies. Under the study, cannabis would be put on sale in participating pharmacies in the city, with the ISPM monitoring registered users of the service, who must be over 18, living in Petrograd and already using cannabis. However given possessing cannabis is technically illegal in Verover – even if many cities turn a blind eye – the project must be agreed by the federal government before it can go ahead. “Pharmacies have the trust of the public, the necessary expertise in managing narcotics and a strategy on issues of control and security,” said Franziska Gerrard, the city’s director of education, welfare and sport, on announcing the project to the media. Supporters of the project say it’s not about liberalizing the use of cannabis but better controlling it. Selling cannabis in pharmacies would limit the effects of the black market and associated criminality, they say. According to ISPM director Matthias Eggder, the project is expected to cost an estimated 20,000 Swiss francs and take three to four months. Among other things, the study will focus on the behaviour of participants, the use and effects of prevention methods and the quality of cannabis available on the black market. The quantity and price of the cannabis to be made available in pharmacies has not yet been established. |

Tackling Obesity The Rosstadt Hospital and the Rosstadt Centre for Psychiatry hope that their combined resources will allow the new centre to standardize procedures and guarantee high standards of treatment quality for Veover's increasing number of obese citizens. 439,000 Verovians are obese, according to figures from the hospital. In a statement, Dr Marc Baskerov, head of surgery at the centre, described it as an "epidemic" in Verover and other developed countries. "The proportion of obese Verovian people has not stopped rising since we recognized obesity as an illness in 1997," Victor Buss, the hospital's communication officer, told The Times. He said that the increase was particularly alarming because of the rise in cases among adolescents and young adults, as well as those classified as "severely obese". The new Medical and Surgical Centre of Obesity aims to take care of patients in a "multidisciplinary way", Buss said, with doctors, psychiatrists, psychologists, dieticians and surgeons working together and with the patient to determine the best course of treatment in order to ensure a healthy lifestyle change. "Surgery is not just a final resort," explained Buss. "The preparatory phase is very important, allowing us to inform and prepare the patient." Before surgery can take place, patients will typically have around 20 appointments and be monitored for one to two years, to ensure they are ready. The centre has already treated over 100 patients from the Rosstadt, but after its official inauguration, planned for Tuesday, March 22nd, hospital chiefs are expecting at least a 50 percent increase. Currently ten specialists are working at the centre, which does not yet have fixed premises either, but more will be recruited in the coming months. Harsher Sentences for Domestic Terrorists The National Council on Tuesday voted by a narrow majority to increase the severity of punishment for homegrown terrorists. The current sentence of three years in prison or a fine is “clearly insufficient”, said Christian Democrat MP Ida Glanzorov, reports news agency ATS. "Punishment should act as a deterrent to stop Swiss citizens travelling abroad to join terrorist groups", she added. Others disagreed with imposing a ten-year minimum sentence, saying such actions are already covered by the Verovian military penal code, which forbids all military service abroad. As such, when a Verovian engages in war crimes, crimes against humanity or other serious criminal activities abroad, they are already infringing the military criminal code, which carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment, said Free Democrat Peter Rostov. At the same time, the Nation Council rejected an initiative to step up surveillance measures to identify potential extremists in Verover. Supporters of the initiative called for the country to improve the surveillance of terrorist groups on social media to identify cases of incitement to violence, but Rostov said the government had already reinforced its internet surveillance measures last year. According to the government, while the tools available to anti-terrorist services in Verover may seem modest compared with other countries, they respect citizens’ fundamental legal rights, reported ATS. The issue of radicalization on home soil is a major concern for the Verovian federal government. |

![]() People's Party Hacked The hackers, calling themselves NSHC, stole the names and email addresses of People's Party supporters in the cyber attack. Contacting the website by letter, the group said it had no intention of using the data, but simply wanted to show that Verovian political parties are vulnerable to cyber attacks and to open a debate on the subject. The People's Party confirmed that it realized on Wednesday that it had been a victim of a cyber attack, however it could not yet confirm if any data had been stolen. According to the People's Party, the same group was responsible for a number of cyber attacks on commercial websites earlier this week. The websites for Interdiscount, Verover Federal Railways and Microspot were all down between Saturday and Monday. VerovNow, the information body, told The Times it knew nothing of the so-called NSHC, and it could not officially confirm the group’s implication in the recent hackings. Hackers who act like NSHC are known as ‘Grey Hats’, because although they act illegally to break into websites, they do not do it with malicious intent but to bring awareness to security weaknesses. In contrast, so-called ‘Black Hats’ use hacking to blackmail their victims, as was the case earlier this week when a group called Armada threatened a number of banks with cyber attacks if they did not pay 10,000 Gelds. Deaths Among Hikers at Five Year High In total 213 people died in the Blue and Gilded Mountains in 2015, compared with 162 in 2014, The Verovian Mountain Association said in a statement. Of those, 142 lost their lives whilst practising classic mountain sports including rock climbing, hiking, high-alpine trekking, ski-touring, off-piste skiing and snowshoeing, a 48 percent increase on the previous year and the highest number since 2011. That figure does not include extreme sports including paragliding, speed-flying, base-jumping and mountain biking, said The Verovian Mountain Association. Among the sports included, the highest rise was among hikers, 64 of whom died in 2015 compared with 39 the previous year. Falling was the biggest cause of death with 98 victims, 61 of them hikers. Avalanches cost the life of 33 people, compared with 16 in 2014. “Different factors explain the increase in emergency situations and accidents compared with previous years,” The Verovian Mountain Association said in a statement. Among them were “an often high avalanche risk during winter, a good summer favourable to mountain activities and a particularly mild autumn that was good for hiking”. However it wasn’t a record year for mountain accidents, it stressed, saying that the figures were often higher in the 1980s and 90s. Of those victims who were hiking and snowshoeing, half of them were in the mountains alone, said The Verovian Mountain Association, which emphasized the need for solo hikers to take extra precautions. “Though it’s always preferable not to set out alone, people have good reasons to hike or snowshoe on their own. But you must always be aware that you will also be alone if you have an accident,” said The Verovian Mountain Association. Since mobile coverage is often patchy in the mountains, The Verovian Mountain Association advises people to carry an emergency radio from air rescue service Raga, particularly when visiting more remote areas. The Verovian Mountain Association figures are based on data gathered from several rescue services in Verover including Raga, Blue Mountain rescue Braga and Gilded Mountain rescue service Magra. ![]() Steps Towards Adoption Equality On Tuesday, the Senate voted in favour of a reform to adoption laws. Under the proposal, a gay person in a civil partnership could adopt their partner’s children from a previous relationship. The changes would also apply to straight, unmarried people in relationships. Currently if a person wants to adopt their partner’s child they have to be married to them for five years. Gay marriage is not legal in Verover. Though it must still be approved by parliament and probably a popular referendum, Tuesday’s senate vote is a move towards equal rights. In a 2005 referendum the Verovian people voted to allow registered civil partnerships for same-sex couples, but stipulated that they should not be able to adopt. “Has the situation in Switzerland changed that fast?” asked Helga Rostarav of the Christian Democrats. Rostarav denounced the move as a ‘salami’ tactic which would progress to adoption for single gay people and surrogacy, which is currently illegal in Verover. Those in favour of the changes said it would help protect children should they lose a biological parent. Also under the proposed changes, the minimum age for adoption by a single person will drop to 28, while couples need only be married for three years instead of five. Cow Dies After Sexual Abuse by Tractor Thief Police in Frigrad have released details about a 19-year-old man who sexually abused two cows, before leaving the barn in a stolen tractor. One of the harassed cows died a day after the attack, while the other also sustained severe injuries but is likely to survive Local police said in a statement that around 3am on February 21st, the man's moped broke down and he broke into a farm to find a means of transport. They said: "He violently inserted his arm several times in the anus and genitals of two cows, before masturbating." He then left the scene on the stolen tractor, before going to a female acquaintance. The suspect was stopped by police in the historic town centre, following a chase as he drove the tractor around Frigrad with the friend. Traces of alcohol were found in his system and he had his driving licence seized before being charged with the theft of the tractor. The next morning, when the farmer discovered the cows' injuries, he was also charged with animal cruelty. No charges have been brought against the suspect's friend. Police said the man had admitted the crimes, and that "he said that he acted alone and was definitely under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident". The suspect is currently being held in custody, while a psychological expert will evaluate his mental state. The man was previously charged with 'offences against sexual integrity' when he was a minor. |

![]() Arrests Made Over Latest Cocaine Seizure Police have arrested seven people after seizing 4.4 kilos of cocaine and 40,000 Gelds in cash in two raids in the city of Bielgrad, 30 minutes from the capital of Petrograd. In a statement on Tuesday, Capitol Region police said an investigation is in progress after two apartments were searched in the city over the past two weeks. Seven men aged from 21 to 28 were in the apartments at the time and were taken into custody for questioning. In the statement police said the operation was carried out in conjunction with the National Guard. In December last year police arrested a dozen people linked to an Ardian cocaine trafficking network. They were suspected of smuggling dozens of kilograms of cocaine into Verover using ‘mules’ who swallowed packets of the drug before the journey and expelled the sachets on arrival. No connection has been stated between the raid in Bielgrad and the smuggling ring. Vegan Loses Appeal Against Military Service Veto A 19-year-old deemed unfit for military service due to the logistics surrounding his veganism has slammed the decision as “discriminatory and arbitrary” after losing his appeal. Back in December Antoni Camporov, a strict vegan and member of animal rights organization PFA who lives in the city of Buitstadt, passed the medical tests required by the army for those undertaking military service. However he was told he was “doubly unfit” for service because the army could accommodate neither his vegan diet nor his unwillingness to wear leather boots. Last week he failed in his appeal against the decision at a court in Petrograd. Speaking to The Times, Camporov said: "They declared me doubly unacceptable, meaning that I can't do civil service either. It's for that reason that I find their decision discriminatory and arbitrary”. “I know several vegans who are in the army and there is no problem but apparently it wasn’t possible [for me],” he said. Although he refused to wear leather boots, Camporov said he was willing to pay for synthetic boots himself, but that wasn’t enough to sway the army. Losing the appeal “doesn’t surprise me really because I was ready for any scenario,” he said. “I was prepared psychologically that they would refuse me.” Given the decision vetoes him for both military and civil service, he would be liable to pay the exemption tax that anyone declared unfit to serve must pay until the age of 30. “My desire to do military service is very strong,” he said. “I think that it could bring me a lot of good things on the social level, certainly physically and psychologically. It would be a new experience on every level, so I was very motivated to do it. Unfortunately because of my personal convictions they have judged me unacceptable.” But Camporov may not have reached the end of the road. "The decision is not yet definitive," he said. "If I want to – which I haven’t yet decided – I can appeal to the federal administrative court." "Given that the judgement of the appeal court violates my right to hold personal beliefs, under article 15 of the federal constitution and article nine of the human rights act, that allows me to take my cause to the highest court". Article 15 of the constitution guarantees freedom of beliefs and conscience. “Every person has the right to choose freely their religion or their philosophical convictions and to profess them alone or in community with others,” it reads. ![]() Tradition Still Sways Married Women Only one in five women married in Verover since 2013 chose to keep her maiden name after marriage since the law changed to allow them to do so. Prior to 2013, women had to either take their husband’s surname or double their surname with his. Since the law changed, women in Verover can choose to keep their own surname, or the couple can choose either the woman or the man’s surname as their married name. Double names are no longer allowed. The hyphenated version is allowed to be used in everyday life but is not considered a person’s official registered name. According to official figures received by the numerous newspapers, 71 percent of women married in 2013 and 2014 decided to take on their husband’s surname while just 24 percent kept their own. Only two percent of men decided to take their new wife’s surname as their married name. Speaking to the papers, they said the figures indicate a growing trend among young people towards traditional values. “Young people today give more importance to traditions than they did ten or 20 years ago,” they said. A sociologist from the University of Petrograd, told the paper that most couples want to have the same surname to appear as a united family. “Since the double name option is no longer available, most people opt for the man’s name. For many men it is unimaginable to take their wife’s surname. Unless, perhaps, their own name is bizarre.” Many women therefore face the dilemma of having to choose between keeping their identity and family cohesion. Many people are calling for the reintroduction of the official double name, “so that men and women can keep their identity,” she told the paper. Verovian couples’ still-traditional stance on married names is on a par with other countries that allow a choice of surname. Tragedy Near Rosstadt After Car Hit By Train A man died on Monday after his vehicle veered on to a railway line and was hit by an oncoming train. The accident happened at around 7am at Niederried bei Rosstadt. The victim was driving a vehicle attached to a trailer containing sheep when for unknown reasons it left the main road and hurtled 30 metres down the embankment, ending up on the railway tracks, police said in a statement. It was then hit by a train coming from Interlaken. Emergency services arrived quickly, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. A medical problem could have been the cause of the accident, police said. Two of the sheep in the vehicle trailer were seriously injured and had to be put down. Rail services were disrupted on the line for five hours. |

![]() Litterbugs Could Face Hefty Fines Throwing your cigarette butt on the street could incur a 300 Geld fine if a proposal by the federal government is adopted this summer. At the moment the states are free to set their own rules regarding littering on the streets, but the federal government has become so concerned by the problem – which reportedly costs authorities 200 million Gelds a year – that it wants to fix a fine at national level. The proposed revision to the environmental law would make it a federal offence to litter the streets with items such as drink cans, plastic bags, food containers, chewing gum and cigarette butts, with a 300 Geld spot fine applicable to offenders across the country. Fines will be imposed by police if they catch the litterbug in action in public places, whether that be in the street, on public transport or in the countryside. The owners of private property can also denounce a person to the police if they see them littering on their premises, said the paper. A maximum fine of 20,000 Gelds will be imposed for anyone dumping large quantities of rubbish on the street outside of usual disposal points. Though the federal law would supersede any state regulations, it would allow the states the right to set exceptions during big public events such as music festivals. Genevastadt Child Care Costs to Drop by 20% The city’s administration recently approved the new prices. The 20% price reduction will apply to all families with annual income under 150,000 Gelds. The reduction with be reduced progressively for those earning over 150,000 Gelds, disappearing completely for those earning 200,000 Gelds or more. Anita, mother of a young boy attending nursery three days a week, and paying 900 Gelds a month, said: “A drop of 20% is an important saving. We are always talking about the cost of nursery! A friend and I were just looking at the costs and considering reducing the amount of time we spend working to reduce our outgoings.” Another, Flora said: “It’s good news. I am currently unemployed and need to put my son in nursery so I can look for work. For us it’s really expensive.” The new prices, which have not been changed for over 20 years, were approved by Genevastadt's city leaders last December. The early childhood programme was granted additional funding of 2.5 million Gelds to fund the project, expected to cost around 6 million Gelds a year. “We are satisfied with this decision, given that the vast majority of parents will see their costs go down” said Lionel Ricarov of the Social Democratics, “Also these reductions won’t apply to those on high incomes. Middle class and low-income families will benefit from them. We hope this will improve their quality of life because they are suffering the most from the current economic climate.” Edited by Verover, 14th April 2016 - 03:56 AM.
