As a nation with a rich cultural heritage, which because of the nations introspective nature until the late 20th Century, East Moreland still retains many ancient folks songs which are a vital part of the nations culture. This document seeks to be the first to catalogue the songs, their lyrics and their meanings/history.

Song 1 - The Parting Glass

LYRICS

Of all the money that e'er I spent
I've spent it in good company
And all the harm that ever I did
Alas it was to none but me
And all I've done for want of wit
To memory now I can't recall
So fill to me the parting glass
Good night and joy be with you all

If I had money enough to spend
And leisure to sit awhile
There is a fair maid in the town
That sorely has my heart beguiled
Her rosy cheeks and ruby lips
I own she has my heart enthralled
So fill to me the parting glass
Good night and joy be with you all

Oh, all the comrades that e'er I had
They're sorry for my going away
And all the sweethearts that e'er I had
They'd wish me one more day to stay
But since it falls unto my lot
That I should rise and you should not
I'll gently rise and softly call
Good night and joy be with you all

HISTORY

A song traditionally sung at the end of a feast to mark the departure of the guest of honour. The songs earliest mention is by a 7th century bard known as Mikos who claims it was sung as the soldiers of King Robert's Army left the feasting hall at Keepton following the ending of the war with Niall.

The Parting Glass is a traditional cup which is kept filled during military meals. As an individual leaves they are expected to drink from the cup and propose a toast before refilling it for the next person.

Ballard of the Dragon

LYRICS - Translated from Morelandish

Dragonborn, Dragonborn
by his honor is sworn
To keep evil forever at bay!
And the fiercest foes rout
when they hear triumph's shout,
Dragonborn, for your blessing we pray!

Harken now, sons of snow, to an age, long ago
and the tale, boldly told, of the one!
Who was kin to both wyrm
and the races of man
with a power to rival the sun

And the Scrolls have foretold
of black wings in the cold,
that when brothers wage war come unfurled!
Underlord, Bane of Kings,
ancient shadow unbound,
with a hunger to swallow the world!

But a day, shall arise,
when the dark dragon's lies,
will be silenced forever and then!
Fair Skyrim will be free from foul underling's maw!

Dragonborn, Dragonborn
by his honor is sworn
To keep evil forever at bay!
And the fiercest foes rout
when they hear triumph's shout,
Dragonborn, for your blessing we pray!

HISTORY

Some early East Morelander tales speak of a battle in the underworld between Dragons and evil Underlords. Fearing the Underlords would win Helus summoned a group of humans to venture to the underworld to aid the Dragons in their battle. The story tells of how one of these warriors had a kinship with the Dragons hence the name.

The story first surfaced in an off shoot of the Cult of Helus in the 10th century. The Cult of Draco-Helus, survived only ten years before collapsing due to a lack of followers and persecution, however the story lived on and became a popular childs story along with the ancient song.
