The base in Gib does outreach stuff in the local schools. Today me and another officer were in doing our second session helping out on "What makes a good citizen?" The first session we finished talking about Random Acts of Kindness. Part of the session was getting them to think of an Act of Kindness they could do for a stranger with 1 Gibraltian Pound. They came up with strange ideas, some quiet cute. We let the class pick the best four ideas and then told the class we were giving those four people the actual pound on the condition they promised to do the act. We never expected them to do it, however going in today the four students have not only done it but videoed themselves doing it, and several others had videoed themselves doing good stuff. This is what they did; * Brought a colouring book for a child * Brought some lollipops and asked the local children's library to give one to every child who loaned a book. * Brought an old person some flowers * Got them changed into 20p coins , taped them to some paper and put them outside the public toilets (yeah the council here even charge for going to the loo) * Brought a pack of bottled water and handed them out to people waiting to cross the boarder (sometimes takes ages) *Brought three packs of sweets and hid them in children's books in the library. * Got it changed into two 50pence coins and taped them to a children's ride. My favourite though. One student used a pound to buy sweets, sold them to friends, reinvested the money to buy more sweets and repeated the process. After doing this five times he had £45, he then went and brought lots of boxes of tea, coffee, sweetners, hot chocolate etc and went and gave them to the Accident and Emergency staff at the local hospital. I know this has nothing to do with the region, just figure it shows how awesome kids are and I like bragging about them doing cool stuff Plus it makes you warm and fuzzy. |
