  Jubilent citizens took to the streets of Krokom last night to celebrate victory in the independence referendum. After spending the last several decades campaigning for independence the regular referendum secured in the constitution of the Union of Nordic People gave a result meaning that in just a few short weeks Åland will once again become independent. As people flocked onto the streets to party the business of establishing a new government was already underway. Åland Provincial Minister Kristoffer Ragnarsson will be the man responsible for negotiating the exact course of independence with Willa Sunbrek. He spoke to the media to say. "I am delighted that we will have this chance to build a nation for the people of Åland. We will work with our neighbours to the South to ensure the transition is as smooth as possible, people should expect some disruption in the coming months as we iron out the wrinkles but I am sure once that is done we can become a prosperous nation." When asked about the future of the govenrment he added, "We will need to ensure that the people are able to elect their leadership as soon as possible, we aim to have elections within a month of the actual independence taking place and whoever wins be in position soon after. When asked if he aimed to be the first elected leader he said "I doubt it, I believe Åland would be better served by a younger person, whoever that is I would be more than happy to lend my support." said the 81 year old. |

 AGREEMENT REACHED ON INDEPENDENCE Today a historic agreement between and the Union of Nordic People was reached, following days of intense, and what Provincial Minister Kristoffer Ragnarsson described as, frank discussion. The agreement will see a staged independence over the next six months occuring in three main stages.
The new government of Åland will receive the aircraft carrier Hringhhorni as part of the agreement and the vessel will form the backbone of the new Navy. The move signals the likelihood that modernisation of the armed forces is likely to be a key priority for any new government. Minister Ragnarsson spoke about the armed forces issues, "Sadly this was one of the most heated part of the discussion, we both recognise that the Gungnir present a clear and present danger to both the Union and the fledgling nation we are creating, now as much as ever we need to be prepared to defend ourselves. I feel we have created a very clear and equitable division of our armed forces, we shall be able to defend ourselves however we may need to spend some money upgrading our capabilities, Åland will be soley responsible for our security now and I would like us to build a strong capable armed forces to ensure we can do that." ELECTIONS TO TAKE PLACE IN THREE WEEKS In a second announcement Ragnarsson formally took himself out of contention to be the first Åland leader. "It is clear that this nation has much building to do and sadly at the age of 81 my days of heavy labour are over. I will provide whatever support and guidance the eventual leader asks of me but I firmly believe it is time to hand over to a younger person." It is expected that many leading Ålanders within the current government many stand for election however nothing would prevent them giving their loyalty to the Union, Birgit Strand for example was born in Krokow and under the agreement will be named a Ålander, however she has publically stated her intention to remain living and working in the Union by stating, "I'm Nordic, I was born in Åland, grew up in Nordernlaand and now live in Sauli, each of those wonderful places have shaped who I am. I intend to be a frequent visitor to Åland but my heart and duty lie with the Union, under the current situation I would be a dual national, and I would choose to continue working with the Union." Most of the regular political parties from the Union have registered interest in forming parties for the upcoming election and with Nord First holding 61% of the seats for Åland they are strong favourites to form the first government. |

OOC- I know this is being done quick but I have plans   FIRST RIKSDAG ELECTED, MAGNUS BAKKE TO LEAD Yesterday Magnus Bakke of the Odinic Rite (NA) was elected to lead the nations first Parliament. With 56% of the vote the Odinic Rite will control the discussions to form the nations constitution. Nord First, another right wing nationalist party came 2nd gaining 27% of the vote, their leader Susanna Hollen said, "We are delighted to have done this well, under the old Union we always did well in Åland and it is nice to finally see our efforts here pay off, I look forward to working with Mr.Bakke, a person with whom I feel our party can work well alongside." Meanwhile Mr.Bakke, who will for now assume the title of Prime Minister, spoke of the hard work ahead. "This is the halfway point towards independence. Now we must work with the other members of the Riksdag to form a nation mandated by those who have voted for us." The new Prime Minister went on to explain some of the ideas his party have for the new constitution. "Our people have clearly given an indication that they wish to see a nation influenced by Odinist, Nordic values, that is therefore what we shall build. The Odinic Rite Party have already had a draft constitution in mind but this will now be presented first to my fellow Riksdag members and then to the people to ratify." It is expected that this draft will be presented to the newly formed Riksdag tomorrow and debate opened in the afternoon. The Union of Nordic People's Head of Longhouse Willa Sunbrek sent a message of congratulations to Mr.Bakke in which she stated, "I wish you the best of luck drawing up this constitution and hope it lays a firm foundation for our friends and neighbours to build on." |

OOC- We don't hang around here.  CONSTITUTION PASSED. The first Constitution for Nya Åland has been approved by the people. The constitution has created Nya Åland as a Theocratic Republic based on Odinist principles. The document passed through the Riksdag 402-61 before receiving 79% of the popular vote in a referendum of the people. Under the terms of the constitution Magnus Bakke will now serve as the Head of Government using the title Allsherjargoð, an ancient Nordic title for someone who united the people under a single banner. The role is broadly similar to that of Prime Minister. The Constitution does away with the title Head of Longhouse, as the holder of Head of State will have to be drawn from members of the Odinist religious community the title Head Gothi will be used instead. SO WHAT DOES THE NEW CONSTITUTION MEAN? The constitution at a glance * The Head of State shall be The Head Gothi, they must be a Gothi (religious leader) of one of Åland's many shrines. They will command the armed forces and be responsible for the ratification of all laws. * The Head of Government shall be the Allsherjargoð who shall be appointed by the Head Gothi from among the elected officials. *The Riksdag shall be renamed the Odinic Council and will be elected every five years. Only those registered with an Odinic Order (Shrine) may vote or stand for election. * An upper house called the Longhouse shall exist, this will be made up of religious leaders and those who have fulfilled criteria such as being a former Allsherjargoð * Citizenship will be granted to all Odinists moving to Åland regardless of nationality. * Odinism is the only permitted religion in public. It will now be a criminal offence to wear religious symbols other than Odinist ones in public. *All school children to take a daily oath stating ""I pledge myself to The Odinist Republic of Åland and the constitution on which it is based. I shall do my best to uphold the Nine Noble Virtues in my words, my deeds and my thoughts."  SUNBREK TO BE INVITED TO OPEN ODINIC COUNCIL The Union of Nordic People's Head of Longhouse Willa Sunbrek has been invited to give the opening speech in the new Odinic Council. The UNP leader has already voiced her hopes of strong friendships with Åland and Allsherjargoð Bakke shares this hope. "We essentially are two children from the same mother, but we've become adults and it was time to move out, that doesn't mean we won't be inviting them over for a drink every now and again and we'll be popping back to say hello from time to time. Miss Sunbrek has guided many citizens of this nation for quiet some time and she did a remarkable job. I think this gesture cements the fact we are now separate but friends." Miss Sunbrek said she was "highly honoured to be invited to speak at the opening and wishes the new nation well." It is yet to be confirmed whether the invitation will be extended globally. |

 "WE FACE DISCRIMINATION" SAYS VILHJALMSSON Head Gothi candidate Julia Vilhjalmsson has spoken out in response to several nations reactions to the new constitution. Following Rokkenjiman Broadcasting Corporation stating " great scrutiny will be upon Åland in the coming days and weeks as it bears similarities to the Odinist Union of Nords." while their government advised "against all but non-essential travel to Åland." Meanwhile Harold Saxon, the Prime Minister of Dartfordia has already expressed his intent to veto the nations entry into several organisations. This follows Tytorian protestors expressing their dislike for our nations constitution. Upon hearing this Julia Vilhjalmsson spoke to the press. The well respected religious leader said. "They talk about people here facing discrimination, however it is us that is being discriminated against, our nation is yet to be born and already because of our faith the world are treating us as outcasts. The Union of Nordic People before us was a proud Odinist dominated nation, all we have done is enshrine that into our law, yet because we proudly proclaim our faith we are compared to the Gungnir's pipe dream of creating the Odinist Union of Nords. If having a similar name to a terrorist group is enough to paint you as an international outcast I highly expect to see similar statements about East Moreland, Dartforidia and Tytor soon, after all the Kingdom of Borland has a similar title to the Kingdom of East Moreland, or the Kingdom of Dartfordia, it's just one word different after all, much more similar to the one word we share with the terrorists Odinist Union of Nords." the 78 year old went on to explain further her anger. "We see the UAE using their theocratic rules to lock women up for showing too much flesh, yet we simply ask people not to publicly display religious symbols, something that would see the Police politely ask you to hide, for example, your crucifix necklace inside your shirt. Yet the UAE lock women up for much less. This however didn't stop the Imperial couple travelling there. Meanwhile we have persecuted no one, how can we, technically our nation does not exist yet, and we find ourselves being accused of all manner of intolerance" The Gothi of Krokom's Shrine of Odin then set out why she has high hopes for the nation. "Odinism is a religion that promotes hard work, loyalty, courage and respect. I believe we are the first nation in the world to have a clause in our constitution that makes it illegal to not offer assistance to a visitor in need, therefore this would in my view make us a very safe nation to visit. Many world leaders and tourists came to the UNP during Pride and witnessed first hand the hospitality of Odinists, Nya Åland will be no different except we ask people to show respect to our religion in our homeland."  STENBERG AHEAD ON EXIT POLLS The Gothi from the Shrine of Thor in Krokom, Daniel Stenberg is currently ahead in the polls for the nations Head of State, known as the Head Gothi. With polls closing in two days two different polling companies give him around 55% of the vote. The 58 year old priest is considered by many to be a moderate who is keen to see the nation create a strong economic base by cutting reliance on imports. In one of his campaign speeches he said "Our ancestors knew the meaning of hard work, they crafted unimaginable boats from the woods, made captivating jewellry from rocks hauled from our earth and tilled the land to ensure no-one went hungry. Some of these things we have lost in our modern desire to own the latest mass produced piece of crap, we need to create Nordic companies, training young men and women not just to make profit for them but to ingrain craftsmanship and creativity in all people. I wish to make us the artisans of the world." Elise Svensson, a Gothi of Frigg, currently is polling around 25% and is in second place but the youngest canidadate seems to have already accepted defeat. "Daniel is a very strong personality and has a lot of support, I know regardless of who wins the nation will have a very strong leader for the first Head Gothi, should it be Daniel he will have my full support and I hope to be part of what he creates." Polls close at midday on Sunday with the winner expected to be announced some hours later. |

 INDEPENDENCE DAY PREPARATIONS UNDERWAY Preparations for the birth of Nya Åland are underway. The city of Krokom has seen teams of workers setting up barriers on the way to the Odinic Council building where the winner of the election for Head Gothiwill be announced, shortly after the Union of Nordic People's Head of Longhouse Willa Sunbrek will officially hand over control of the Republic to the new Head Gothi. hundreds of thousands of people are expected to line the streets and enjoy the street entertainment that is being put on. Allsherjargoð Bakke spoke of his excitement. "To be present when a new nation is born is to me the most exciting moment in my political career. I would thrilled if we could host citizens from across the globe to come join in our celebrations and herald a start to our Republic's bright future." Invitations have been sent out across Mundus but as of yet no nation has confirmed attendance, this is worrying as several nations have spoken out against the nations new constitution, even to the extent of Transvaal raising taxes to "religious organizations that don't come from Transvaal," under the belief that the new government will be trying to convert people. Several candidates for the position of Head Gothi highlighted the need for Odinist missions overseas however as current favourite for the position Daniel Stenberg said "We clearly are not looking to force people to convert, either by essentially bribing them with lower taxes or through violence. I fear our religion has in the past been hijacked by the Gungnir and we face difficult times as a faith as sadly when people hear the word Odinist they think Gungnir. It is our intent to show that is not the case. We have Nine Noble Virtues which place on all Odinists a duty to work hard, honesty, follow the law and contribute positively to their society. Look at the Union of Nordic People, you see there Odinist Shrines involved in all manner of projects from food distribution to the poor, running hospices for the terminally ill and running homeless shelters, this is done as a duty from the Gods. We in the new Republic will carry that on and if permitted would have looked at extending these duties around the world. Should that lead to more people coming to a faith dedicated to such noble principles then so be it." In response to Prime Minister Cornwallis of Tytor's statement, one of the other candidates Halldor Alvarsson said, "I find it strange that a nation that has refused to sign the MCUR speaks to us about trampling on Universal rights. Like them we do not intend to sign the convention however I would point out that our constitution also makes it the duty of all Ålanders to protect each other in times of need. We seek only to defend our nations unique culture and to do that the people of Åland believe we need to maintain ourselves as an Odinist nation." |

 LONGHOUSE OPENNED Yesterday the Nya Åland Longhouse, the nations upper house, officially opened. The former Business Convention Centre had hastily been transferred from Krokom council to the central government to provide for the assembly to meet. The Head Gothi was the first to enter and soon after he was joined by the 73 members of the assembly. In a short speech he addressed the nation outlining some of the ideas for the coming years.

 OPERATION HRINGHORNI TO COMMENCE SOON Head Gothi Daniel Stenberg has announced what the government is called Operation Hringhorni. Despite the militaristic sounding name the purpose of the operation is to aide Odinists the world over move to Nya Åland. To facilitate this the government has leased a cruise ship from a national tour company. While the use of such a boat may sound outdated Head Gothi Stenberg pointed out the cultural significance, "Our ancestors travelled the world by boat and they settled many areas of the world, Hringhorni was the vessel of the God Baldr and carried him to the afterlife where he was born again. It is our hope this boat will be able to dock in various ports around Mundus and collect any Odnists who wish to move to the Republic, here we will offer them an opportunity to settle." As well as collecting willing migrants the boat will also feature workshops on Odinism and employment fairs. These will help potential migrants determine whether this is for them. While the boat travels back to Nya Åland the staff on-board will run language sessions and help prepare the migrants for life in their new home. It is hoped that the project will either directly or indirectly see around 80,000 people move to the nation. Minister of Home Affairs, Elise Svensson spoke of her excitement at the project. "We have large areas of the country that have not been heavily settled, these areas have massive potential for agriculture, controlled forestery, even industrial potential, what we lack is people. We will be offering Odinists around the world automatic citizenship if they move here. I look forward to welcoming new arrivals soon and handing out their new passports."  HOUSECARL GUARD FOUNDED Minister for the Armed Forces, Marita Kjeldsen yesterday announced the formation of an elite military regiment, known as the Housecarl Guard. The Regiment will be a special operations unit akin to the Mjölnir Commando's of the UNP. "The Housecarl's were the most feared warriors on Nordic battlefields, they possessed a level of professionalism beyond that of the common soldier, and this is what we will create. The regiment will form itself from only the best and brightest of our forces and will receive specialist training." The former Mjölnir members of the newly formed Nya Åland military will be automatically transfered over and selection processes run in due course. It is not yet known whether the Housecarl's will continue the association the Mjölnir had with East Moreland's Red Legion. |

 THREE ARRESTS AT CHRISTIAN PARADE Today 53 Christians gathered in Krokom to conduct an Easter Parade. The group, which included a reconstruction of Jesus carrying a cross and several dressed as Roman soldiers, intended to carry out a reconstruction of the crucifixion outside the St. Peter's Social Centre. The parade has occured for the last fifteen years after Father Andersson began organising them for the small Christian community of Krokom. As the group assembled Chief of Police Mathias Byjolm asked those gathered to remove any symbols of faith, including the large wooden cross that "Jesus" was due to carry. Some of the congeregation did as asked however as the group prepared to move off around half still carried crucifix's and the large cross was still visable. Once again Police Chief Byjolm approached the group and asked them to remove all religious imagery. He then informed them that once that had been complied with they would be permitted to make their way to the social centre to conduct their worship in private as the centre technically is part of Father Andersson's personal property. At this point several of the congregation began arguing with the Police who had now blocked the groups path. The stand off continued for two hours until the Police made a final request for the crowd to disperse or remove religious symbols. When the group refused Father Andersson, Wilhem Magnusson and Karsten Joachim were arrested and taken to Krokom Central Police Station. After a brief visit in front of the magistrate the three were fined 1,200 Kr each and given a caution about breaking laws on displaying religious symbols. The case marks the first of it's kind in the newly independent nation.  MILITARY EXPANSION UNDERWAY The Ministry of Defence has announced plans for large scale expansion of the nations armed forces. Minister of Defence Marita Kjeldsen spoke of the plan to reintroduce national service and build force numbers up to those comparible with other Albion nations. "Previously the UNP's armed forces were small and based around the idea of neutrality being enough to defend them. We meanwhile will not be leaving things to chance and our armed forces will be sufficient to defend us from any threat." It is expected that the Army will be increased from 125,000 troops up to 700,000 while the Navy and Air Force will double in size. Miss Kjeldsen stated, "We will aim to supply the majority of this equipment ourselves, however we will not rule out procurement, in the short term, from other nations. We will also look at joint military building projects as well as providing funding for establishing our own companies here. We have already agreed to purchase two Destroyers and two Battlecruisers from Nueva Ardia." The Battlecruiser is very similar to that operated by the UNP which the nation missed out on acquiring during the negotiations to split the armed forces. |

 NEW PATROL BOAT COMMISSIONED As part of the nation's rebuilding of it's armed forces 20 lightweight, high speed patrol boats have been commissioned. The boat wil be known as the Snabbpatro class and will feature state of the art stealth technology. Minister of Defence Marita Kjeldsen announced the project from the Yahl Dockyards. "The goal of this project was to build a very stealthy, high-speed, multi-role missile boat that could patrol the waters around the nation, while still being affordable to procure and operate." The vessel boasts a top "sprint" speed of 40knots and the unique hull design allows it to operate in water just 6ft deep. To maintain the stealthy design it has two sets of four-tube anti-ship missile launchers shrouded behind flat panels above and behind the bridge. Alternatively, four deadly advanced cruise missiles can be carried for attacking both large ships and land targets at long ranges. A 40mm advanced Bofos cannon is fitted atop her bridge for surface and air engagements, including being the ship's primary close in weapon system (CIWS). Later models are also expected to feature the capability. The ships stealth also comes from the infused vinylester carbon fibre foam sandwich structure which allows ease of construction, corrosion resistance, light-weight and high-strength, and will be especially useful when it came to dampening the ship's radar, thermal, magnetic and acoustic signature. All of which add up to reduced detectability and enhanced survivability, especially in the cluttered and noisy coastal areas. The boat will also be capable of launching a large inflatable fast boat and later models will also feature a flight deck. The cost of each boat is likely to be around £25million due to the lightweight construction. It is expected that further procurement announcements are to be made in the coming week. |

 PATROLS INTENSIFY After meetings between Head Gothi Daniel Sternberg and the UNP's Head of Longhouse Willa Sunbrek it has been agreed that Nya Åland will allocate two of the new Snabbpatro boats to full time patrols between Grunwald in the UNP and Krokom in Nya Åland. The move comes in the wake of the recent attack on Grunwald Ferry Terminal by the Gungnir. The attack originated from Nya Åland soil and the terrorists returned over the boarder once the attack had been complete. Minister of Defence Marita Kjeldsen spoke of her embarrassment following the attack. "We could not prevent the attack and that hurts, the people who died are our neighbours and our brothers and sisters. We will work tirelessly to help capture those responsible and prevent further attacks." Head Gothi Daniel Stenberg also announced today that he will ask the Odinic Council to name the Gungnir as a terrorist organisation. "While this may seem obvious one must remember as a new nation we have no list of prescribed terrorist organisations, it's on a very long list of housekeeping we are still going through. The Gungnir may claim to be Odinists but one of the Nine Noble Virtues is Courage and a courageous person does not fire a machine gun at unarmed women and children."  HEAD GOTHI TRAVELS TO UPPSALA Head Gothi Daniel Stenberg and Foreign Minister Leifsson have travelled to Uppsala to seek the nations entrance to the Pan-Albion Congress. Many feel this may be an impossible quest as much of the Albion media has been critical of our nations policy regarding religion. However Stenberg is hopeful. "Our citizens were once members of the organisation and to essentially eject them from the Congress is in my view unfair. We have much to offer Albion and our response to the recent Gungnir attack shows our willingness to co-operate with our neighbours, I can not think of any logical reason why we should not be accepted. It is expected the Head Gothi will face some kind of interview before any decision on potential membership is made.  IFK KROKOM 1 - 0 DIJELIBEYBI F.C In their first foray into the Champions League IFK Krokom defeated Dijel's Dijelibeybi F.C at Krokom Arena. A 33,000 capacity crowd watched a tense first half that saw both sides struggle in the windy weather. However as the second half got under way it was an attacking change of direction from IFK that played dividends. At around the 60 minute mark holding midfielder Klaus Yonberg was substituted to be replaced with young wonderkid Klass Merz who narrowly missed out on scoring with his first touch. The breakthrough came in the 73rd minute as centre back Gus Hysen scored from a corner by heading into the top left corner of the net. The victory sees IFK sat at the top of their group as fellow Group F teams Emancipa United and Djana-Ville Wanderers managed a 2-2 draw. Krokom manager Boris Petersson said he was delighted with the result. "We're a national not well known for our football prowess, we've worked hard to make sure we're a difficult team to break down and hoped to catch a break, Gus took it beautifully and fingers crossed we can carry this momentum on." |

 NAVY LEAVE ON EXERCISE The Nya Åland Navy has left Krokom for its first naval exercises in the Sea of Alucard. A task for made up of twelve ships including the aircraft carrier ORNV Fjölnir has headed into the Sea North of Nya Åland and is expected to be gone for two weeks of intensive training and drills. It marks the first time that the nations' navy has deployed on manoeuvres and is seen as the first in a long line of measures to be taken to bring the countries new armed forces up to speed. While in the Sea of Alucard the task force will also carry out air patrols from ORNV Fjölnir and once the exercise is completed is expected to carry out some live firing exercises utilising drone target in territorial water. Minister of Defence Marita Kjeldsen is expected to visit ORNV Fjölnir during the exercise. Announcing the departure she has stated, "It is vital we get our armed forces up and running as soon as possible, the incident in Grunwald has shown we harbour a threat that must be weeded out. Furthermore we need to ensure we are capable of contributing to the wider safety of our region. In modern times an armed forces is a defence against all manner of threat, not just enemy militaries, our Navy will soon be ensuring the Sea of Alucard is free from smuggling of all kinds." AMATEUR SPACE MEN TO GO FOR ORBIT  A group of Krokom based space enthusiasts have announced that they believe they can put a person into a single low orbit within the next two months. KrokOrb started three years ago as a consortium of rocket makers, space obsessives and engineers and have already launched 27 rockets successfully from their mobile launch platform in the Sea of Alucard. Each of their launches has taken place from international water ensuring that they have not had to deal with difficult health and safety laws concerning their vehicles. Of the 27 rockets 15 have achieved altitudes of 60km or more, their latest launch was of the ManTube Rocket containing a crash test dummy fitted with sensors. This was successfully launched, reached a height of 80km and returned safely. The capsule contains enough space for a single passenger who is strapped to a specially designed seat while wearing anti-g equipment. The probe contains very little scientific equipment to save weight and the passenger views the world out of a toughened dome. The only other equipment contained within the tube is a series of parachutes. A successful launch is thought to be Mundus' first ever manned amateur space operation. |

 LICENCE GRANTED FOR WHALE HUNT The Head Gothi has granted licences to two rural communities for the first grindadráp hunt since 1986. The practice was outlawed in the Union of Nordic People following international pressure however Nya Åland's leadership have often spoke of the nation reconnecting with its lost heritage. The small towns of Mikberg and Sputswald applied to the Department of Farming and Fisheries (DFF) to hold the hunt in which pilot whales are killed for their valuable meat. These remote communities have often had to rely on subsistence farming and the poor quality of pasture and farmland means it animal husbandry is difficult. In past times the whale meat was salted and stored to provide meat for the year ahead. Announcing the decision the DFF said. "We will be holding the people of these communities to the same rules that were used from 1920-1986. The whales may only be driven onto a beach which meets certain requirements for beaching of whales. The only equipment that may be used are ropes, hooks and the Whaling Knife to dispatch the whale. Only whales over a certain size may be killed and it is the responsibility of the community to ensure those to small are helped back to sea. The hunt formed a key part of these communities heritage and we are glad to allow them to once again practice it." During a hunt a group of whales is driven towards the beach by a flotilla of boats connected by a rope. Any whale ocean side of the rope may not be taken, however any whale that is not beached may be dragged ashore using a hook in their blowhole. Once ashore the spine of the whale is cut through the dorsal area using a special tool resembling a spear and sword. This kills the animal instantly after which its neck is cut to drain the blood to ensure the quality of the meat. The animal once drained is dragged fully ashore and butchered with the meat being given to every resident regardless of their involvement in the hunt. Mikberg has been granted permission to beach 80 whales and Sputswald 130. The move is likely to draw criticism of many animal rights groups. |

 LOCALS SAY "WMO HAPPY FOR PEOPLE TO SUFFER" Locals in Sputswald have spoken about their preparations for the upcoming whale hunt. After being granted permission to hunt 130 Pilot Whales the small settlement have been busy preparing. Speaking to local fisherman Aron Lindholm we were told "Many families have had the traditional equipment hanging in their homes since the last hunts, these have been taken down and cleaned, hooks have been tested, knives and lances sharpened. We have been doing all we can to ensure that once the whales are spotted we are prepared." While our newspaper was present the locals ran a practice hunt. It saw 20 small boats spread out into the bay and extend a large rope and net between them, they drove towards the shore, the real drive will see groups of Pilot Whales driven before them. The rest of the settlement came down to the beach and went through the process they would take. We got the impression of a highly organised and disciplined system. Groups of men who took part in the last hunt will assess the age of the whale and those considered immature will be pushed back out to sea and allowed to breed. Those of the correct length will be taken up the beach by teams of "pullers" at which point a "cutter" will severe the spinal cord killing the animal instantly. Aron Lindholm also spoke of his worries for the hunt. "We have seen the Wild Mundus Organisation criticise our hunt. They have no idea about how important this is to the community. During the winter we struggle to get food supplies through to our villages and it is a real struggle to ensure we have enough once the harsh winter cuts of the road. We can't fish because often the sea's freeze or the ocean is too stormy. Without the dried whale meat and blubber we see children become malnourished. Our government allowing us to do this hunt is a true act of kindness as we will be able to feed ourselves over the winter. Unlike when they opposed the Toshikawan Whaling we are not doing this for profit, no corporation is involved and the meat will be distributed to the whole community regardless of age or involvement in the hunt. It's as though the WMO is happy for people to suffer." A government spokesman said, "The People of these communities have complied with all standards required for these hunts, we will monitor them to ensure compliance and we will not tolerate outside agencies or governments interfering with our citizens trying to feed themselves." It is expected several Naval patrol boats will be dispatched to the area as observers. |

"First may I thank the governments of Odmony and Seaforth I seeing sense. Odmony clearly recognise the importance of this up coming hunt in order to help our people while Seaforth clearly recognise our right to administer our own waters. However the attempt at a CTO injunction is an insult to our nation, I'm sure the Archon has made an honest mistake when he said that the UNP "representing Nya Åland", we are a sovereign nation and responsible soley for our own destiny. As we are not members of the CTO we will therefore not be effected by any injunction. The attempt at postponing the hunt legally is also an issue, this is a time critical issue, the whales migrate through the region once a year giving the residents only one opportunity to carry out this act. I am however grateful to Archon Rhodes for his attempt at taking a sensible approach to the issue." The hunt has received heavy criticism from nations such as Rokkenjima, Dartfordia and East Moreland, all of which have talked about sending ships to the region to disrupt the hunt. "These nations clearly have no respect for the international accords they push nations to sign. This action threatens the EEZ of Nya Åland and therefore is akin to economic warfare with our nation. We will clearly be increasing patrols in the region to ensure the sovereignty of our waters is maintained." It is expected that the Rokkenjiman Royal Yacht is likely to be used in order to create a political situation, meanwhile Dartfordia are sending armed vessels.  NEW PATROL BOATS SEE IMMEDIATE ACTION The nations new Snabbpatro may have only been delivered a few weeks ago yet they are to see "immediate action", a Ministry of Defence spokeswoman said. Three of the new boats will be dispatched to the Sea of Alucard in order to help monitor the hunt, one will be dispatched to Mikberg and Sputswald while the third will monitor the territorial integrity of the EEZ. Following announcements by several governments that they will allow naval vessels to participate in attempts to disrupt the hunt it is suspected some may infringe on the nations territorial water. Explaining the action expected of the Snabbpatrol boat the MoD said "Our territorial integrity is a vital part of ensuring the future of our nation. We will not tolerate any trespassing by nations intent on harming our people or our economy." Meanwhile the fourth Snabbpatro boat has begun duty in the area between the Union of Nordic People and Nya Åland, an area where Gungnir terrorists had crossed into the UNP to carry out an attack on Grunwald Ferry Terminal. The Inge Klasson intercepted an unidentified vessel it believed to be acting suspiciously. During a search of the vessel they found ten assault rifles, several crates of grenades and a RPG. The stop happened around a mile into Nya Åland territorial waters as the vessel attempted to make it into the Union's territory. An MOD Spokeswoman said, "We are delighted to have made this stop, while we are yet to confirm whether these people are either Gungnir or supplying them, we believe this act may have helped prevent another attack on our neighbours.  SHIP SEIZED FOR ILLEGAL ACTIVITY A Nya Åland patrol ship today intercepted and then seized a ship being used by the Wild Mundus Organisation to illegally interfere with the scheduled whale hunts at Mikberg and Sputswald. The vessel known as the Investigator was using a series of military style sonar drags and acoustic speakers to send signals to whales in an attempt to disrupt their natural migration pattern. The Navy sent a patrol ship to observe the WMO sanctioned mission which crossed into Nya Åland waters. The ship was boarded by teams of Marines following it's refusal to stop and after brief scuffles forced their way onto the bridge and seized control of the vessel. Forty people now are in custody the majority of them citizens of East Moreland, these people will now face charges of entering Nya Åland illegally, carrying out acts of industrial sabotage and resisting arrest. Head Gothi Daniel Stenberg made a brief statement about the arrests as he returned to his residence following a meeting with business leaders. "I am sad to see that nations disapproval of our people's attempts to feed themselves and be self reliant has lead to disrespect of our sovereign territory, it is my understanding the vessel was ordered to stop several times and refused, therefore giving our Navy no option other than to arrest these people. I now can only hope that the courts take appropriate action to show these economic terrorists that we will not tolerate interference with our nations sovereignty." The maximum sentence for carrying out acts of industrial sabotage is life imprisonment, however our newspapers legal correspondent Leo Manheim said "It is likely the sentences in this case will be measured in months rather than years, if that, no physical harm was done and from what I have read no lives were put at risk. The maximum sentence is usually reserved only in cases where sabotage has put lives in jeopardy.  KROKOM PREPARES FOR PAC VISIT Following unfounded concerns by the Pan Albion Congress (PAC) that Nya Åland may not be protecting human rights an inspection panel is due to take place in the coming days. The city has been given a spring clean in order to create the best impression possible to those visiting. Head Gothi Daniel Stenberg said, "While we feel this inspection is unnecessary we clearly have nothing to hide, while the city of Krokom will be the base of these delegates visit they will not be restricted from visiting anywhere within our nation. NEW STRIKE BOMBER UNVEILED  Krokom based Baseship Enterprises unveiled their new strike bomber today as part of the nations military re-fit. The aircraft known as the Skar will feature state of the art stealth technology. It is the latest in a line of military developments Mundus has seen including the Achkaerin built Robin fighter. Baseship Enterprise Manager Joakim Jaok said " We are delighted with what we've managed to build. It's RADAR signature is minimal and it can carry four heavy machine guns as well as internally a variety of missiles and bombs including cruise missiles giving it incredible strike potential." Testing by 19 year old test pilot Frida Halstag, has proved it to be highly agile for an aircraft of its type and also capable of keeping up with Achkaerin's new Robin aircraft, "The Achkaerin development spoke of breaking the world air speed record in their fighter, we're not that fast but while they are eyeing 2,100 mph we're not far behind at around 1,900 but that's everything we can squeeze out." IFK KROKOM READY FOR BIG STAGE  Having defeated Leonaise F.C on penalties the Nya Åland Champions return to Achkaerin to compete for the most prestigious trophy in club football. The Blues will take on Northfort United of East Moreland at Coral Park in Avalon and is likely to be watched by a major TV crowd in the city. The team have traditionally always finished just outside the top four when they were part of the UNP top flight, however having won the inuagrel Nya Åland Premier League the team took a major step up into the Champions League. The team's manage Boris Petersson said he was excited about the final. "We're used to playing in extremely small stadiyms, our own ground is just over 30,000 yet during this tournament we've played in front of much bigger crowds, the final though will be something else and so it's important our players stick to their game and not get carried away." With the club having sold out its allocation of tickets within an hour and extra flights being put on to ensure fans can get to the game it is likely the city will be packed with fans unable to get to the game. Large TV screens have been installed in some parks and the city square outside the government building. Even the Head Gothi Daniel Stenberg has been spotted wearing a Blue and white striped tie in recent days showing his support for the team. Speaking at his weekly press conference Stenberg said, "I may not be a major football fan but I always like to see our people do well in everything they do, I'll be cheering them on and hoping our nation can welcome our first sporting heroes home soon." Krokom captain Vladimir Onusson said, "Week in week out our fans are amazing, I just hope they can give us one more push and help us defeat Northfort, a team who have really surprised a few people."  ESTWALD TRAIN ATTACKED BY TERRORISTS, 1 ARRESTED AND 18 DEAD The 7:30 am commuter train into the town of Estwald was partially destroyed in a terrorist attack. As the train was full of people making their way into work two explosions happened in one of the carriages. Eye witnesses said that they believe the devices were hidden in bins as they first saw smoke coming from them before the explosion ripped through the cabin. One of the survivors was Roger Lehl who was on his way to work. "At first we thought someone may have dropped a cigarette or something in a bin. The next thing I remember was a wave of pressure throwing me backwards. As I picked myself up of the floor I noticed a large hole in the side of the train and screaming people." It took the emergency services around ten minutes to arrive at the scene from the small town of Hokea which the train was passing through when the bomb went off. The scene however was overwhelming for the local hospital and teams from Estwald took longer to respond. It took over six hours for the carriages to be searched and all the people to be evacuated. As of now Estwald Hospital have confirmed that 18 have died while a further six are critical. In the evacuation process one member of the public was arrested. The woman who can not be named for legal reasons, is a 15 year old who was discovered with a further explosive device and several mobile phones which police believe was used to trigger the device. Police confirmed that the young lady was a member of the Gungnir but had recently returned from Marseille. In response to the attack Head Gothi Daniel Stenberg said, "It is clear that Marseille is a threat to Albion, we had hoped by now CTOMM had taken action but our offer of support has yet to be acted upon, we have not yet ruled out taking our own actions." |

 AIR FORCE STRIKEBACK Following the terror attack on Estwald bound train the government have been quick to strike back at the training camp of the terrorists. In response and acting upon credible intelligence the Head Gothi authorized the air force to destroy one of the camps the suspect in custody is thought to have prepared for the attack. Minister of Defence Marita Kjeldsen said, "The terrorist we have in custody had credible evidence that they had trained in Marseille, in response we began a monitoring operation using electronic warfare aircraft, they collected a sizeable enough amount of data that we were able to confirm the exact location of the camp. The Head Gothi then authorised the use a long range missiles to engage the camp." It is widely believed the operation saw two Angurvadal aircraft, each armed with a JASSM take part, and this would be the first time the aircraft has been used in anger by Nya Åland. Head Gothi Daniel Stenberg however said it is doubtful this will be the last. "While part of the UNP we relied on our neighbours to ensure stability. We will no longer take that approach. We will do whatever we need to do to protect our citizens. We had hoped that CTOMM would by now have engaged the Sorority, as that has not happened and nobody has opened a dialogue with us we have decieded to look to our own response. Should we find upon reviewing the evidence collected by the Spotter aircraft that other camps are in operation we will begin immediate operations to engage them." When asked about the potential co-operation with CTOMM he added "We have offered to work alongside them however we would expect to be fully briefed and consulted about the operations they would wish us to undertake, as always Nya Åland officers would retain the final say on the use of our forces." |

 MARSEILLE MURDER 1,063 Following the destruction of a Sorority terrorist training camp by Nya Åland's air force the nation of Marseille have aided the terrorist by firing ICBM missiles into Freihelmborg and Durnberg. The missiles hit at almost the same time with two impacting in Freihelmborg and a further missile in Durnberg, the death toll from the two attacks is so far at 1,063. Emergency services responded but were overwhelmed with casualties, shortly after the impact the armed forces were called in to offer support to civilian services and teams from the UNP were also flown in. Fires raged through the two cities leaving many residential areas uninhabital. Around 3,800 people are left homeless in Freihelmborg and 2,700 in Durnberg. Speaking in the aftermath Head Gothi Daniel Stenberg said, "This attack clearly shows that the Duchy and the Sorority are essentially the same thing, we have seen nothing but lies again and again from Marseille and now because we were willing to make a stand against our citizens being killing we have become their major target. Over 1,000 Ålanders have died in a cowardly attack, we will respond , we will not allow our people to be murdered by state sponsored terrorism and even now measures are being put in place to respond in such a way as to begin weakening this rouge state." Meanwhile Åland forces have been placed on high alert, leave has been cancelled and reservists asked to report to their stations. It is likely that the Åland Navy and Air Force will be asked to respond. One resident of Durnberg who is now homeless said, "First they help bomb our trains, next they destroy our cities. We we're all on our way to work when a bright flash light up the city, next thing I know a blast knocks over the bus I'm on and fire swept through the streets in an instant. I managed to take shelter behind the bus but some others got quiet badly burnt. All I hope now is that the world wake up and realise what must be done." Measures are being taken to ensure other urban areas are protected such as putting in place air patrols, early warning systems and using the metro system as shelters. |

"Clearly we have been placed in a position where our nation may no longer take action to defend itself, in effect we have been bullied into inaction. With statements of our assets being "escorted" from the area it is clear that Rokkenjima and their CTO allies wish our nation to have no role in defending itself. In the face of overwhelming military might we are forced to back down and now rely on CTO to prevent a terrorist nation from further attacks against us. Close to 2,000 of our brothers and sisters have been murdered by Marseille and their Sorority bedfellows, something CTO had with their resolution vowed to take action to prevent. They failed and now several thousand civilians have died yet still it seems the two entities of Marseille and the Sorority are not recognised as being one, they are now granted protection from our own operations aimed at ensuring we are no longer targets of terrorism. We will grant them one opportunity to carry out their work, should they fail then we shall take action to do what they will not."  "ROKKENJIMA OR CTOMM" ASKS MINISTER OF DEFENCE Minister of Defence Marita Kjeldsen today spoke of her confusion over the Marseille situation. Speaking at a meeting of defence companies the former combat search and rescue pilot said "Over the last few days I've become confused, first we see forces operating under the Imperial Rokkenjiman Armed Forces banner attack Marseille, in much the same we did just days previously, our attacks drew criticism for being "Unilateral" in nature, yet Rokkenjima saw fit for one of their politicans to release the statement, not a military spokesman for CTOMM or the CTO. In the mind of many this seems to infer that these actions took place separate to the CTO operation. Next we see them receive the exact same treatment that we did, claims of them bombing civilian targets, frankly I wouldn't trust anything the government of Marseille say in the slightest. We're talking about a highly capable military with state of the art technology, the chances of them mistaking targets are minimal. We next see the first communication, at least that my eyes have seen, from Admiral Cole, a man we've several times attempted to open up communication with. This statements radically changes CTOMM policy from one of sitting on the border to one I would determine as being more offensive in nature. In the next few days I fully expect to see CTOMM forces hit targets similar to the ones we have hit, yet this time involving coalition forces. It makes me wonder whether this is indeed a Rokkenjima or CTOMM operation as it is only after their Lord High Steward's statement this operation changed. If I was a member of CTOMM I would be concerned about where command is coming from." The Minister of Defence then confirmed that they had been working to ensure electronic warfare aircraft were operating despite Rokkenjima claiming a no fly zone, and that Strathkoka were allowing the use of airfields for refuelling. She later added, "We had originally agreed to operate unarmed aircraft close to Marseille, this is a policy we will now review, we have several strike packages previously joined up and we will not rule out carrying them out."  KROKOM AIRPORT TO OPEN IN TWO WEEKS The city of Krokom is to open a new airport capable of handling a large volume of international flights. Since independence the city has had to depend upon ferry transfers or train terminals linked to airports in the Union of Nordic People. The airport has yet to be officially named but will be amongst one of the largest in Mundus.  KROKOM INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT OPENS Nya Åland's first airport capable of accepting long haul international flights opened today. Krokom international airport will now mean that visitors to the nation no longer need to fly into the Union of Nordic People before crossing by train or ferry into Nya Åland. The move was seen as essential for national prestige and as a way of encouraging tourism to the nation. The airport is now expected to be at full capacity within a few weeks as more airlines begin flying to the nation. Home Affairs Minister Elise Svensson opened the airport announcing that. "Nya Åland's future as an international player made it vital that we had easy access to Krokom. Now that is in place we need to push forward with our next steps in establishing a stronger presence on the world stage." Nordwings Airlines , the nations largest transport company have also welcomed the move. Their Chairman said, "I'm delighted that we now have an opportunity to open up connections around the world and help our business and our nation grow. There are very exciting times ahead." STENBERG TO VISIT ROKKENJIMA[/center] Following a invitation from Rokkenjima to several nations it was today confirmed that Head Gothi Daniel Stenberg would be attending.  HEAD GOTHI CALLS FOR SUPPORT OF REAL MARSEILLE Following a statement released by a resistance group in Marseille the nation's Head Gothi Daniel Stenberg called on the international community to support the group known as Real Marseille. The group have recently claimed to be responsible for an attack on the President of Marseille Anna La Montange and are thought to be the leading resistance group in the nations capital. Stenberg has confirmed that Nya Åland's elite Housecarl unit are operating in Marseille but refused to give any further details. In his weekly press conference he spoke at length about the situation. "It is clear that the current government of the nation of Marseille is not fit to govern a children's tea party yet alone a sovereign nation. While CTO sit waiting for the rains to end it is encouraging to see the people of Marseille stand up for themselves in a show of self reliance. Clearly these resistance fighters, be them the guerrilla's in the North, Le Orient or Real Marseille are incredibly brave standing up against professional killers despite until recently being civilians. We as the international community must do more to help support them, especially Real Marseille. The guerrillas have the Neuva Ardian's standing shoulder by shoulder with them, while Le Orient seems to enjoy the support of Rokkenjima. Standing in the capital rather than the periphery puts Real Marseille in the middle of danger and they are facing it alone. We have heard from the leadership of this group of resistance fighters and seen how they already are trying to form a new future for their nation, an inclusive future giving all those fighting for freedom an opportunity. I hope I will see nations begin to engage with them so that when the time comes that the Sorority controlled government falls no power vacuum is left. We will be lending what support we can, however with CTOMM having been rather restrictive in their relationships with our nation I fear that may not be enough so call on all freedom loving nations to lend what support they can to Real Marseille."  BAKKE CONCERNS OVER SPEEDY ACQUITAINE SPLIT As one of the few Head's of Government to have negotiated his nations exit from a national union Allsherjargoði Bakkehas voiced his concern over the situation in Acquitaine. As Rokkenjima have voiced their support of the breakaway Republic following the signing of Treaty of Pegauret Bakke said he believed it may not be so straight forward. "As a nation we firmly believe in self determination, clearly if this is what the people of Acquitaine desire then eventually it should be brought about. The separation of two nations is not an easy task, believe me. There are many issues to take care of ranging from such things as sharing of sovereign debt to such mundane things as driving licence records. We had to go through a similar process with the Union of Nordic People and that was a difficult enough discussion and we weren't even at war. To simply just declare that you've split away from a nation does not allow a smooth transition at the best of times, I am sure once this war is over the people of Marseille will not be thankful if they are lumbered with all of Marseille's debts while Acquitaine enjoy the largesse of Rokkenjima and a clean slate. I am also concerned that at this point no referendum has taken place, they intend to carry one out in the coming weeks, I believe it will probably confirm that this is the will of the people but no one should jump the gun. Where is the opportunity of the people of Marseille to say to the people of Acquitaine they believe they should remain united, if a limb is about to be hacked off surely the people should have an opportunity to present alternatives. This has all the feeling of a done deal and in my view is not how the division of a nation should be handled. Several nations have committed time and lives to bring about the freedom of the people inside Marseille. East Moreland, Neuva Ardia, Achkaerin, Dijel, Genstatum and South Hills have all sent large contingents into Marseille to bring about freedom along with ourselves, yet none of us have been consulted about this action which will have a major impact on the war." Bakke went on the air his concerns about the inclusion of former MDF commander General Cartier within the situation in Acquitaine. " Under the Command of the General the MDF and Sorority troops attached to them have committed attrocities against the people of Marseille. Now seemingly he has had a change of heart and switched sides and all is forgiven. To the innocent men, women and children Cartier's men have murdered, under his orders, the fact he is lauded by Rokkenjima is a great concern to us and I suspect the wider international community."  LAW OF RETURN PASSES INTO LAW The Head Gothi today signed a new law into effect. Known as the Law of Return it grants any person, regardless of where in the world they live, the right to claim citizenship of Nya Åland so long as they have been a registered member of their local Odinic Order chapter for 18 months. The law is based on the Head Gothi's belief that the Odinist faith would have spread out from the area of the world the modern day Nya Åland and Union of Nordic People occupy and that therefore the nation should look to protect all Odinists wherever they should be in Mundus. Speaking as the law passed Stenberg said, "We are a nation with vast unoccupied areas of wilderness prime for development of industry, mining, settlement and a whole host of uses, Odinists are a much misunderstood faith and I would welcome here any Odinist who wishes to carve out a life for themselves alongside their brothers and sisters in faith." It is not known how many will take up the offer however their is the possibility that Odinists in war zones will find it much easier to get to safety following the laws implementation. BAKKE PROPOSES CONTROVERSIAL EDUCATION BILL The Allsherjargoði has today proposed a controversial bill on education to the Odinic Council. The bill named the Education Reform Act (2015) would permit private educational institutes to be set up by minority religious groups. The Bill would allow groups such as the Catholic Church to establish their own schools but only if they are privately funded. Currently under the nations constitution schools run by faiths other than Odinism are outlawed. The Bill however would still make the teaching of Odinism compulsory but would also allow the school to teach their own faith as well as conduct worship within the school building. Speaking to introduce the bill Allsherjargoði Bakke said, "At the moment one of the biggest stumbling blocks our nation faces is that many view us as repressing religious freedom. This is far from the truth. People in our nation may believe and worship what they wish, however we simply ask that they do so in private. No religion calls upon public display of faith as a tenant. I believe by passing this bill we would show the world we are tolerant of other faiths and make our foreign affairs dealings easier." The Bill however is likely to get a great deal of opposition especially from the right wing Odinic Rite party which said "This is clearly a slippery slope, Bakke wishes to dilute our faith, to allow minority religions with no Nordic connection into our communities will see our unique culture destroyed and we will be urging all members of government to vote against this bill should it get to that stage." Many people believe that the nations stance on religion has seen them fail to gain entrance into the Pan Albion Congress and also not establish any significant relationship with nations other than the Union of Nordic People. |

 EDUCATION BILL STRUGGLES ON FIRST DAY IN COUNCIL Allsherjargoði Bakke today saw his proposed Educational Refrom act struggle to gain support on the first day of its debate. The proposal has drawn heavy criticism from some members of Bakke's own party and many spoke out against the bill during the debate which is due to be voted on tomorrow. The Allsherjargoði looked flustered as he left the Council session having spent much of the day arguing the need for the bill to pass. During one impassioned moment Bakke said. "This bill is vital to us being able to build improved relations with other nations. I believe that this is a compromise which allows us to both maintain the nations Odinist roots while showing the world that we don't have anything against other religions. We have already failed to get into the Pan -Albion Congress because of this, we've had issues with Samsarah about a fledgling international organisation, where will this all end? We face a very real prospect of being isolated internationally yet this bill may give as a glimmer of a chance of salvaging these things." Opposition leader Sylvia Palberg however urged her party to firmly oppose the bill. "This is the beginning of a very slippery slope. The people of this nation voted in a public referendum on the constitution, and now Bakke wishes to rip up the very document he helped author. He intends to do this without even consulting the people of the nation, I hope members of his own party do the right thing and stand for the people not their self serving leader. Bakke wishes to make himself an international player and cares only for his own ego. We will ensure this pointless piece of legislation never gets beyond the Council." The debate will continue until 2pm tomorrow at which point the Council will vote. Many have suggested that should the Bill fail to pass Bakke will face a vote of no confidence from his own party.  NEW GEOTHERMAL PLANT OPENS IN SPOTSWALD The nations largest geothermal power plant began generation today in the remote area of Spotswald. The plant has a capacity of 303 MW of electricity and 400 MW of hot water. In addition to generating electricity the power plant offers educational tours and presentations about sustainable energy as part of its Geothermal Energy Exhibition. The plant is just one of three expected to open within the next two years and is expected to help ensure reliable electricity supplies reach rural communities. The plant was built by Norpower after winning the contract two years ago. It is hoped that by 2020 the nation will be able to generate all its electricity using renewable sources. |

KROKOM ON LOCKDOWN FOLLOWING BAKKE ASSASSINATION There were shocking scenes today at the Odinic Council building. As Allsherjargoði Bakke left the debating chamber following the passing of his controversial Educational Reform Act he was shot four times by a member of his own party. In clear view of the press young Council Member Tobias Grun assassinated his own party leader before he himself was wounded by Bakke's security agent. Our own reporter Beatrice Sten witnessed the event and says, "The scene was beyond belief, we had seen most of the Councillors leave in the early morning and Grun and Bakke were chatting away in a corner as though discussing business. Next we hear two gunshots and see Bakke sliding down the wall held by Grun who fires another shot or two, I can't remember, into Bakke's chest before shooting him at close range into the head, it was Marita Kjeldsen who was first to react, I have no idea what Grun would have done next. It was shocking." Bakke was pronounced dead at the scene and his body taken to Krokom General Hospital. Head Gothi Daniel Stenberg was the person who informed Bakke's wife and two children of the death and spoke outside the official residence saying. "Magnus Bakke is in my mind the man who masterminded the birth of our nation. He will have my eternal thanks and deserves the thanks of every Ålander. I know I speak for our nation when I say that Bakke's family have our thoughts and prayers." Stenberg went on to order all flags in the nation to be flown at half mast and three days of national mourning to take place. Meanwhile the Gungnir have claimed responsibility for the killing with a statement saying "Grun has always been one of us, he has worked tirelessly to ensure the future of our faith and way of life, something Bakke and other politicians have tried to destroy. We will not tolerate this and will do all that is required to ensure the purity of our home." Grun was a 29 year old Councillor who had been expected to one day feature as a leading member of the Odinic Rite party. He was due to present a bill on Hydroelectric Power tomorrow. |

 THOUSANDS LINE STREET FOR BAKKE FUNERAL Thousands of people lined the route of the funeral procession for murdered Allsherjargoði Magnus Bakke. A traditional Odnist funeral was arranged by the Head Gothi Daniel Stenberg who presided over the state occasion saying, "Without Magnus there would be no Nya Åland, every single citizen of our nation owes this man a great debt of thanks." The thousands who braved the cold evening winds in Krokom witnessed a full size long boat get paraded through the streets and down to the river, many of the mourners carried their own fire torches as they lined the route. Stenberg commented by saying, "The lights of so many torches lining the streets of Krokom show the love we had for Magnus, they created quiet a send of." Once at the river the boat was towed by a tug into the middle where it was ignited as mourners sang traditional songs. It is the first time such an honour has been given in either Åland or the UNP in over 100 years. One member of the public, called Jana, said, "We felt we had to come here tonight, our nation has lost it's father and we his children now need to ensure his hopes for us don't fade." That sentiment was shared by many who witnessed the impressive spectacle. As the fires died down Edith Bakke, the Allsherjargoði widow said, "The people of our home town have been amazing, the love they have shown my husband is sincerely touching to know he touched so many people's hearts." Meanwhile one group of mourners felt the event sent a stronger message, 19 year old Student Union President Thomas Vokal said, "Tonight we have sent two messages, the first is to Odin that a great man is one his way to Valhalla, the second, as equally important for me, is that the Gungnir can not win that the people of our nation, and the UNP, will stand shoulder to shoulder in a fight against terrorism." This was a sentiment supported by the attendance of Willa Sunbrek, the Head of the Longhouse in the UNP who attended "not out of duty but out of love and respect for a former colleague and inspirational neighbour."  JIN ODINSSON EMERGES AS FAVOURITE TO SUCCEED BAKKE Toshikawan born Jin Odinsson has emerged as the front runner to succeed Magnus Bakke as leader of the Odinic Rite party. The 40 year old former journalist has been a raising star in the party for some time and currently holds the position of being the Parties Minister for Culture and Sport as well as being one of it's spokesman. Odinsson was born to Odinist converts in Toshikawa and changed their family name from Nabishima to reflect the families conversion. In 1980 his parents died in a car accident and in accordance with Odinist tradition he was adopted by members of the local Odinist community who in 1987 moved back to what was then the Union of Nordic People. After high school Jin studied Media and Journalism at Sauli University before becoming a Sports reporter for the Nordic News. In 2009 he entered politics after meeting with Bakke as part of a consultation on improving ethics in sport and was persuaded to enter the party. In recent months he has been instrumental in the bid to organise the Winter Games as well as being a vocal supporter of Bakke's Educational Reform Bill. |

The Toshikawan born candidate to succeed Magnus Bakke is currently in Toshikawa undertaking a good will tour. In the video Tobias Odinsson spoke for twenty minutes about his feelings towards the most likely new Allsherjargoði saying. "The Nordic nations are for true Nords, the true followers of Odin. Jin Nabishima is nothing but a phony the love of Odin does not flow through his veins and he must not be permitted to become the Allsherjargoði. The weaknesses of allowing foreigners into our nation has already taken its mark, the fact a Toshi like him is likely to be our leader shows the niavity of our nation. We need a strong leader, a leader who will keep our nation as pure as the Northern Snow. The Odinic Rite are already betraying the nation by diluting our constitution. Jin Nabishima must be stopped by any means necessary, we therefore will reward anyone able to execute this traitor with 82,000Kr ($10,000). Our group will not rest until all Nordic nations live out their true creed." Efforts have been made to trace the group but have so far drawn blanks.  REVIEW RECOMMENDS MILITARY INCREASE Following the end of the Marseille Conflict the Nya Åland Ministry of Defence have completed a review of the militaries performance. The conflict was the first time troops had deployed outside the nation as previously they had been part of the Union of Nordic People's Defence Force which, as a neutral nation, never deployed outside the territory. The report, which will be published in full shortly reached the following conclusions; 1. The ground troops deployed conducted themselves well and their training was adequate for the special operations they conducted. They had sufficient equipment to carry out their missions however it is doubtful a larger deployment would have been possible. 2. The Air Force performed admirably, they conducted several air raids in the capital of Marseille and were able to avoid civilian casualties, one pilot died during the raids due to his capture and subsequent execution. A lack of tanker aircraft and lack of access to friendly air space however pushed squadrons past usual accepted safe limits of range and pilot operations. 3. The Navy made no significant contribution. With a navy designed significantly for defence of coastal waters it was only the aging aircraft carrier Hringhhorni that made a contribution, this relied heavily on being amongst the CTO fleet for its wider protection and entry into a hostile theatre would have been disastrous. As a result the panel, which was headed by Minister of Defence Marita Kjeldsen, herself a former Air Force helicopter pilot, came to the following conclusions. 1. The Navy must increase the number of Destroyers and Frigates, at present the nation has two destroyers, this must be increased to six in the near future. We currently operate five Frigates, this number will be doubled. Meanwhile the planned Wind Class Carrier which was due to begin construction next month will be cancelled and the money saved invested in more submarines. 2. Two new squadrons of strike aircraft, or preferably multi role aircraft, will be acquired. With the nation having only had ten Dáinsleif strike aircraft and one now being lost it is important we rebuild and increase our stocks. 3. The size of the Army will be increased from 150,000 servicemen and woman to 300,000, this will be done over the course of the next five years by increased recruitment and retention, furthermore current reservists will be recruited into the full time military. A national consultation on national service will be undertaken. Kjeldsen spoke about the report as she left having presented the report to the Council saying "Clearly we have at points been found wanting, not in the dedication and skill of our people but in the equipment and resources we provide them. A time may come when we would need to contribute larger forces to operations like the one in Marseille and we can't at present. We must be able to defend ourselves." Kjeldsen also failed to rule out purchasing equipment from overseas saying "We will be searching to give the tax payer the best value for money and the most bang for our buck....so to speak." |

 ODINSSON WINS PARTY LEADERSHIP Following a ballot of all members of the Odinic Rite Jin Odinsson has been elected as the parties new leader. Receiving 62% of the vote the 40 year old becomes the first non-Åland born leader of the party. He was joined on he stage by his 35 year old fiancé Viktoria Malmsson to celebrate his victory, which many put down to his willingness to concentrate on ending the nations isolation in international politics. It is expected that he will meet with Head Gothi Daniel Stenberg to be offered the position of Allsherjargoði tomorrow as the Odinic Rite have a clear majority in the Odinic Council. The new Odinic Rite leader received a lengthy standing ovation for his acceptance speech.

 WINTER GAMES COMING "HOME" In his first official duty as Allsherjargoði Jin Odinsson accepted the opportunity for Nya Åland to host the Winter Games. The former Sports and Culture Minister was instrumental in putting together the nations bid and was visibly overjoyed at the decision. Speaking from the steps of the Odinic Council building late last night the Allsherjargoði said. "I received the voting committiees decision earlier today where a formal invitation to host the games was made. I was overjoyed to know that the work of thousands of Ålanders has been rewarded. Winter sports, in particular those of ski jumping, Nordic cross country and many other disciplines can often be found to trace their origins back to our ancestors, the thought that those games are now coming back to their ancestral home brings me great joy. I look forward to welcoming thousands of fellow fans from across Mundus and know that the people of our nation will raise to the challenge of giving the visitors an enjoyable few weeks in our homeland."  The design of the medals has also been revealed, Krokom based jewellery company "Krafken" had already been commissioned to provide the Bronze, Silver and Gold medals should the bid be accepted. The medals will be in the shape of Thor's hammer "Mjölnir" and will have the name of the event written on in Nordic Runes. The rear of the medal will be engraved with the athletes name and "Krokom 2015". Designer Sabine Jenssen said, "We wanted a medal that screamed Åland, speaking to many past athletes they said they like medals they win to be unique, to have a look about them that reminds them of the event. We think the medal will look stylish and will certainly be memorable. Medals will be presented as soon after events as is practical by members of the government or international sporting community. Head Gothi Stenberg has already announced he will present the men's Ice Hockey medal. Stenberg was a keen amateur player in his youth and is often seen at Krokom White's matches. Meanwhile the new Allsherjargoði will present the medals at the Ski Jumping, a sport he described as being, "A true test of Nordic nerve." |

 NEW DESTROYER CLASS UNVEILED, PARTS REQUIRED Following the recent Ministry of Defence review the first of four new destroyers are due to be built by Yanmar Dockyards. The Destroyer is set to ensure hundreds of jobs are created in the dockyard that has previously built large cargo vessels and yachts. The vessel however will not be 100% home built with some key systems being put up for contract. It is most likely that companies based in South Hills will be offered the opportunity to build systems such as secure communications and some RADAR systems. The ship class will be known as the Dragonboat and will feature a capability of firing 60-70 anti-ship or anti-land cruise missiles from vertical launch bays, a 130 mm multipurpose naval gun and a top speed of around 30 knts. Minister of Defence Marita Kjeldsen said, "The new vessel is going to be our nations most heavily armed naval vessel, it is a requirement we have desperately needed and finally we have the design we're happy with being made locally in the whole. Its a perfect deal, the navy get equipment they desperately need while the economy gets a nice boost too. I'm sure a day will come when we can completely make a vessel from start to finish."  ROSENDAHL FOR WINTER QUEEN? Bookmakers have made actress and First Lady of the UNP, Krista Rosendahl-Sunbrek, the favourite to be named Krokom Winter Festival's Queen. The honorary title see's the holder carry out a few duties during the festival including hosting the Mayor's reception. The title is given out by a panel of judges who select a King and Queen from Krokom residents or people born there. Despite now living in the UNP Kirsta Rosendahl-Sunbrek was born in Krokom and has been spotted several times wearing the Nya Åland national ice hockey teams jersey while attending games of the Uppsala Reds. The actress was spotted arriving in Krokom yesterday and was later photographed at a pre-festival event to raise money for a homeless shelter in Krokom which raised around $80,000 for the charity. Krista hosted a charity auction which included a ticket for a ride of the historic longboat replica Drakken as well as dinner with Jin Odinsson. When asked about whether she had been offered the role of the Winter Queen the actress replied by saying " The Winter Festival is a great event and I loved it as a little girl, I grew up wanting one day to be Winter Queen but I know there are many well deserving ladies in Krokom." |

 "WE NEED NEW DIRECTION" SAYS OPPOSITION LEADER Following what appears to be an unsuccessful first day of international diplomacy at the Winter Festival, opposition leader Anna Ragnarsson has spoken of her frustrations with both the government and the international community. "Our nation has now made several attempts at reaching out to the international community. The Pan-Albion Congress rejected us, the Winter Festival was a hope at meeting leaders face to face, however they seem more interested in the festival than diplomacy, also we have our failed invite to Rokkenjima. You look at the nations who have attended the Winter Festival, nations that have either insulted us culturally like Sparta or nations we already had a foundation with from our old Union days such as East Moreland, Stenberg and Odinsson have not seen our relations with others grow, an isolated nation can not grow." The opposition leader then went on to point out what the alternative was, "In no way do I advocate the joining of CTO, I mean there we have an organisation that soon could potentially be run by a girl not even old enough to vote in many parts of the world as well as it being an organisation that seriously considered telling us what we can and can not do in our own EEZ, clearly the organisation erodes national sovereignty, we saw that at how they attempted to stop us defending ourselves against the attacks from Marseille. I will however commend Stenberg there, despite attempts to threaten and cajole us from taking action his bold move at placing special forces in the capital played a major role in helping the people of Marseille.  ODINSSON SECURES DRAGONBOAT DESTROYER CONTRACTS Last night Allsherjargoði Jin Odinsson meet with President Santos of South Hills, the exact contents of their talks have yet to be fully released however a Ministry of Defence spokesman confirmed that, "South Hills companies will now be making a significant contribution to the new Dragonboat Class Destroyer". The new class of vessels were recommended under the recent Defence review and will be largely built at the Yanmar Dockyards. The Minister of Defence, Martja Kjeldsen said "This is a project we need to press on with, our naval reach was a significant issue in the operations in Marseille, these vessels will be the start of making sure we are able to defend our waters and when necessary defend our interests overseas. The vessels are the first combat vessels to be made by Yanmar who usually manufacture super large cargo vessels. It is thought that as a result of inexperience in this type of vessel companies from South Hills have been asked to provide electronic systems for the vessel, prompting a meeting between Odinsson and Santos, thought to have gone on during the dead of night. Further information from the talks has however not been released.  HEAD GOTHI MEETS ACHKAERIN EMPEROR This morning Emperor Peter of Achkaerin was seen entering the government complex for an early morning breakfast meeting with Head Gothi Daniel Stenberg. The meeting represents the nations second diplomatic talk within 24 hours, a move hailed by many as a great success for the nation. It also marks the first official one to one talks between the two nations. Speaking to the press government press secretary Frøya Eklund said, "Its been a hectic 12 hours, first Mr.Odinsson's late night meeting and then preparations for hosting royalty. One of the big concerns of many citizens is the feeling of political isolation and now we can see some progress being made, our meeting with Achkaerin will hopefully see some of His Holinesses ideas come to fruition and a sound basis for future interactions made." The Winter Festival this year was made a global event with the intention of attracting several nations leaderships to Krokom where it was hoped talks could take place. Eklund continued by saying, "We have several nations enjoying our hospitality and we hope that after seeing the real Åland they'll be open to closer diplomatic ties, so far two of our guests have had official talks while I know we still have representatives from Sparta, East Moreland and Dameran amongst others in the nation." It had been hoped that the Empress of Rokkenjima would accept her personal invite, however to date it is not thought any Rokkenjiman delegation has arrived in Krokom. |

 EXPLOSION IN KROKOM LINKED TO KINGS BLOOD. NO STOP TO AID PROGRAM This morning a suspected member of the newly formed terror organisation Kings Blood exploded what may have been a suicide vest in the capital. While preparations were being made for the 2nd day of the Winter Festival a police officer based inside the East Moreland embassy with a police sniffer dog responded to suspicious behaviour. This resulted in a chase through a pedestrian area in which shots were fired which saw the Police dog wounded. The chase continued through a coffee shop before the explosion which happened as the suspect and police exchanged fire. Two police officers, a hostage and the suspect died during the explosion, a further officer was slightly hurt. Chief of Krokom Police Magnus Baksted said, "We made decisions to support the East Moreland embassy following the various attacks that have taken place, our officers identified a suspect and followed all reasonable avenues to make an arrest, sadly this was not possible and now three innocent people have died as a result of the actions." At the moment there has been no official claim on the attack. Head Gothi Daniel Stenberg however said, "All indicators point towards this being King's Blood, we will not allow them to strike targets in our nation with impunity, I think we made it clear that terrorism in any form will receive retaliation from our nation, this shall be no different. My thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of those who died and I wish the injured officer a speedy recovery." Stenberg was then asked if Day 2 of the festival will go ahead, "Of course the festival will go ahead, our streets will be kept safe, beside with several hundred soldiers carrying rifles marching through the streets it would be a poor choice of target." He said referring to the military parade that would take part of the event. Meanwhile Minister of Defence Marita Kjeldsen is chairing a meeting of the emergency committee which will consider actions in response to the situation. There had been expected today an announcement by Kjeldsen for a package of aid to be sent to the "Principality of Northern Borland." In a press release issued a few days it was revealed that a staged aid programme was being established following Kjeldsen's visit there to witness Borland disarmament measures.  ÅLAND TO GET NEW JET Following Stage Two of the Nya Åland Defence Review it has been announced that the Air Force will be acquiring two squadrons worth on new multi-role aircraft. The contract for the new jet will be fulfilled by Tanngnjóstr Ltd a Grunwald based manufacturer of components for aircraft, this will be the companies first complete build project and currently is known as the NA-X. The aircraft is expected to undertake roles such as interception, ground attack and reconnaissance as well as an option of being carrier capable. The 30 aircraft will not replace any existing hardware and will be the first part of a three step programme for the Air Force. Stage Two will see the Air Force acquire a new fleet of heavy transport aircraft before the final stage will see the acquirement of utility helicopters. Air Marshall Venger is reportedly pleased with the acquisition stating; " The NA-X will see our Air Force become cutting edge, the package of avionics provides a flexible and hard hitting platform that will allow us to respond to a wide variety of situations, during the Marseille conflict we struggled to cope with the demands of a modern war relying on superior airmanship, we owe it to our pilots to not only give them superb training but also superb equipment."   WINTER KING AND QUEEN NAMED On the second day of the Winter Festival the military torch-light parade culminated in the crowning of the Festival King and Queen. The traditional role was to be the people responsible for ensuring the people were protected and guided during the dark winter months, today however the honorary position is given by the people of Krokom to deserving citizens of the nation who the general public feel have earned the nations respect. This is the first awarding of the positions since the nations independence. With 400,000 people entitled to vote the title of Queen came down to just twenty votes. Bookies had made film star and LGBT campaigner Krista Rosendahl-Sunbrek the favourite however in a surprise twist it was Minister of Defence and former Air Force Search and Rescue pilot Martja Larsson who was named as Festival Queen.  KROKOM EXHIBITION HALL TO HOST FIRST INTERNATION ENVIRONMENT CONFERENCE Krokom is set to host Mundus' first international environmental conference. The newly built Krokom Exhibition Hall will host the event which it is hoped will be attended by delegates from around the world. The conference is to be chaired by Head Gothi Daniel Stenberg and will focus on a world wide response to cutting pollution and increasing the use of renewable resources in terms of energy. It is also believed that Stenberg will look to find ways of the nations attending working together to reduce their carbon footprint. Stenberg prior to becoming Head Gothi was a carpenter and woodsman so has first hand knowledge of working in a sustainable atmosphere and it is hoped this experience may help at the conference. Speaking at the official announcement of the project Stenberg said, "We have a marvellous chance to show off the new exhibition hall, one made out of recycled steel and heated by geothermal energy. The conference stands as a golden opportunity for our nation to plant our flag diplomatically and with Toshikawa, East Moreland and Odmony amongst the nations meeting us it is a great chance to show the world what our nation is about." The conference is also running in co-ordination with a Green Expo in Uppsala a short distance up river. The UNP will also be present at the conference as the two nations show a united front on the issue of the environment. 1st DRAGONBOAT ENTERS SERVICE The first of the nations new Dragonboat Destroyers has today entered service. The NAV Magnus Bakke was launched at Grunwald in front of a large crowd. The boat was christened by 17 year old Grace Bakke who was also one of the first to board the new vessel named after her late father. The ship is state of the art and will feature 90 vertical launch tubes making it the biggest and most heavily armed destroyer in the Navy. The vessel will be the first of six to be ordered and is likely not to be the last addition to the Navy as the government look to enhance the nations military capability. ARENDESIA 2 - NYA ÅLAND 1 The national team made a bad start to the World Cup campaign with a 2-1 loss at Crete Stadium. The team had been expecting to do reasonably well at the tournament after IFK Krokom took the Champions League title in the club based tournament, however during the game there were only glimpses of that kind of form. The team ended up getting on the score sheet thanks to a close range header from centre back Glenn Hysen who also later made a superb goal line clearance. Head coach Martin Stern said, "This is just the first of three games, but it leaves us in a difficult position, we have to play the Union soon and that is sure to be a hard fought game with it being a local Derby so to speak. It's vital now we don't lose again and I know the players will be keen to ensure that doesn't happen." The teams next match is against the Union of Nordic People and is expected to see record viewing figures for a game shown on national TV.  MILITARY OBSERVERS TO BE SENT TO PRINCIPALITY OF BORLAND Following a recent military incursion of Zimalia and the "Principality of Northern Borland" the Head Gothi has received a request from the Borlanders [1] for a team of military observers to be based in the region. It is reported that yesterday several high speed passes over the township was made by the East Moreland Air Force, this then resulted in dogfights between Achkaerin, East Moreland and Zimalian forces, in which one Morelander was confirmed to have died. Concern is that an attack against civilians is likely to be imminent, and Head Gothi Stenberg believes the prescence of Nya Åland troops may be enough to make sure this does not happen. Speaking after meeting his two fellow leaders who form the current tripartite Sternberg said, "Our troops will be there merely to observe, to ensure the Principality is not a threat and to report on the reality of operations by nations such as East Moreland and Achkaerin. We considered sending members of our nations many NGO's however we believed that in a volatile situation, such as this may become, it was vital that our men and women would be able to recognise the dangers and use whatever measures they deemed necessary to protect themselves and innocent civilians." It is expected 200 members of the 3rd Jägarebataljon will undertake the operation with support from two helicopters and ten members of the Air Force. They will not be the first Ålanders to visit the "Principality" with Minister of Defence Martja Larsson visiting during the disarmament process and a further 100 or so Ålanders having taken part in programmes aimed at building schools and health centres. Miss Larsson stated, "While the CTO are busy debating the merits of the Principality being a member of not there are some very real concerns, people there need food, medical supplies, children want to learn and homes need to be built, these things have to happen regardless of who the land belongs to. Whether Kyle Barren is a terrorist or not remains to be proven in a court of law, however what the Borlander movement is doing in Zimalia is something many of us should have been doing long ago. We have yet to reach our own conclusion on what the CTO refer to as the "Borland Question", however we will support any nation or group that attempts to make the lives of some of the poorest people on Mundus better.  REAL MARSEILLE LEADER VISITS KROKOM Former resistance leader and the first President of a new Marseille Republic began a week long visit to Krokom yesterday. Jacques Papin was a butcher who lead a resistance group against the Sorority and MFD during the recent war there. His Real Marseille group operated largely around the capital and where joined by members of our nations elite Housecarls. Full details of the operation have not been revealed but Mr.Papin actions ranged from street warfare to a "prison break" . Mr.Papin acted as caretaker president until elections where held, during which he did not stand. He has since gone back to his family business as well as being a goodwill ambassador for his nation. It is thought he has come to visit Krokom in order to meet some of the veterans who fought alongside his cause. During the first day of the visit he meet with General Kaltra, the commanding officer of the Housecarls who presented him with a black beret as an honourary member of the unit, before he had lunch with Jin Odinsson and several veterans of the city fighting. Speaking to the press he said; "It is great to see some old comrades in arms in a far more peaceful and civilised setting. Much has passed in the short time since we fought side by side but I have an affinity now with my brothers in arms and their homeland. My nation has begun the long process of repairing the damage of the fighting, the Sorority collapsed many buildings in the capital, and this takes much time and is a big challenge for our people. I am pleased though that our nation has been able to get to a point where CTO forces could leave, we are now truly independent. I am saddened though that our brothers and sisters in Aquitaine have seen fit to leave us, I completely understand their patriotic pride but lets not forget there were members of Real Marseille fighting in Aquitaine, and even those of us fighting in our capital were shedding our blood to end the Sorority. To have them turn to an outsider to claim their freedom when we were open to talks is disappointing, these talks even stated that upon completion we would recognise them as their own nation if that was what they wished, regardless of the outcome, well it's like a smack in the face. The matter is now for the CTO to decide what path to take regarding our neighbour.  ÅLANDERS MAKE STAND FOR HYGELAC Following the announcement of an intended radiological based missile test to be carried out in Hygelac members of the Joing Nordic Survey Team (JNST) were ordered to evacuate the facility attached to the rock of the icey contienent. The order however was disobeyed by the majority of the Åland contingent, who after frantic through the night talks declared themselves an independent nation. Lead by Dr.Jessica Strom, the JNST's leading researcher, the staff have declared that they have claimed the territory stretching around 1000km from the research base, now being called Republic House. In the hours that followed Head Gothi Daniel Stenberg gave his support declaring the now newly formed Åland Republic of Hygelac a protectorate, causing some social media outlets to joke about an Åland Empire forming. Within two hours of the formation an election had taken place and a constitution drafted. Dr.Strom was declared the Republic's first Allsherjargoði and immediately asked for global recognition. Speaking via satellite phone she explained the situation;" It is our belief that if the international community get behind us we may be able to say to nations such as Toshikawa who view the area of Hygelac as a icey wasteland that they can't treat the land here in anyway they see fit. As the only permenant base here we were best located to do something, many of us have dedicated our whole careers to studying this place and we will not sit by while watching it be destroyed. We currently have our homeland supporting out actions and are glad to see Luvonia coming to our cause. At present we have 49 citizens, two of them sat in a tent 1000km away from us here have bravely risked their lives on the fact that they can stay there two weeks before walking back using supply caches that even now are being laid. This whole operation to make Hygelac home to someones sovereign territory has not been done to establish an empire for Åland but rather than protect the planets last wildernesses. We hope that more nations will recognise our efforts and our new nation. We will begin taking applications for passports in the coming hours and hope that people will apply allowing us to show the world we have support." It is expected that despite the threat of attack more supplies from Krokom will be dispatched in the coming hours allowing the Republic to maintain its operations.  "WE SHALL SHOW THEM RAGNAROK" SAYS STENBERG Following the recent meteor strike on the Union of Nordic People it has become apparent that the terrorist group known as the Gungnir are in control of parts of the capital, Uppsala. Yesterday evening several rockets fell in the suburbs of Krokom leaving 22 dead and several others injured. It was reported that East Moreland naval assets destroyed the rocket launchers however the Northern part of Uppsala is still in the command of the religious zealots. In response the leading trio of our nation have discussed ending this threat and the required two votes were then given for military action. Martja Larsson was the only member of the Triumpherate not to vote on the military action as she is currently in Uppsala, meanwhile both Allsherjargoði Jin Odinsson and Head Gothi Daniel Stenberg approved the action. In a statement following the posting of orders to CTOURT members present in Nya Åland which includes a 24 hour suspension of seaborne traffic to allow troops to embark.
 IFK PREPARE FOR DEFENCE WITH BIG SIGNING Champions League Winners IFK Krokom have begun preparations for the defence of their title, with six games left of the domestic season they lie five points clear of nearest rivals AIK and are likely to make it another year of Blue and White domination. The team defeated Northfort United in a narrow game in the final last year narrowly avoiding an upset by the semi-professional underdogs. This season however the team have bolstered their striking power by signing James Collingwood from last years finalists Northfort United, the new £8million signing spoke about his hopes for the competition. "I saw how passionate the Krokom fans were last year when I played against them, I was impressed with the whole club if I'm honest. When they came in to sign me I had to jump at the chance, it'll improve me as a player and I hope it will see more Morelanders venturing abroad to play until our own league gets a boost to this standard, of course I hope Northfort do great again and I'd love to see them in the final but I'll be focusing on our own defence of our crown."  AIR OPERATIONS BEGIN OVER THE UNION Following a period of heavy rain over the Union of Nordic People it has been possible for air operations to begin. Until recently a thick layer of dust kicked up from the meteor impact has prevented aircraft from flying due to the potential for it harming engines, the rain however has ensured this is now brought down to ground level. The lack of air support for rescue operations has seen an immense death toll caused in out lying regions with rescue efforts being largely confined to Uppsala and the surrounding areas accessible by road. The change in weather will also mean that air assets can be used to help subdue the Gungnir operations around the capital that had seen them get to within a block of the Riksdag building. Fighter aircraft where also scrambled today from within Nya Åland following identification of an unknown aircraft. Speaking from the daily meeting of the Triumvirate Jin Odinsson said, " We are unsure exactly what the aircraft was or its intentions, as such it is protocol to treat it as hostile, for all we know this could be someone supporting the Gungnir, should that be the case rest assured we shall stop them."  JNSP GET CONTROL OF MARDUK MOON PROBE Following the meteor strike on the UNP the Joint Nordic Space Programme has been without contact with their probe on one of the moon's of Marduk. The Ice Drill Probe was landed there several months ago and had been monitored from Sauli, however mission control was destroyed and contact lost. Scientists of JNSP based in Krokom had begun moves to establish a makeshift command centre at the University and after days of no response they finally got a signal confirming the probe was still functioning. Professor Hollahein said, "We have mixed feelings today, we are of course saddened that so many of our colleagues have died in the recent events, what would have made their deaths even more tragic would have been all their work to have been lost. We will continue to allow the Ice Drill Probe to continue in its work and within another three months we should be done to the moon's ocean, at which point the real science can begin." In his speech he spoke about the plans for rebuilding the territories in the former Union. The main focus on his speech centred around international relations and an end to the Tri-Leadership of the government. "We have seen that unless your some major super-power very few nations in the world take any concern about you. In the past Nya Åland has attempted to stand up for itself and because we don't conform to what the rest of the international community want we are slapped down. We are set to take measures which will see this end and I can state categorily that these measures will not see us join the CTO. This organisation is corrupt and pointless. We have not ruled out a re-evaluation to our streamlined alternative to this organisation. We will however set our priority as being strengthening local links and those with allies, as such I will be meeting with King David of East Moreland in the coming days in order to first of all show our nations appreciation of their efforts and then establish a more formal alliance with them." The Allsherjargoði then went on to thank Achkaerin, South Hills and Dijel stating "without their efforts many more people would have died." In terms of the former Union territories the Allsherjargoði said, "In the coming months our priority has to be moving people from outlying areas, we have no means to keep them safe and secure. We will be putting in place a programme to move them from the extremities of the country back to the areas around Uppsala. In the same time we will be checking infrastructure, attempting to salvage what we can. One main priority has to be to keep the lights on and as such we will be investing in more geothermal plants in order to provide the necessary energy. Clearly it will take us months to even begin working out where to start." Finally he spoke about the end of Tri-Leadership. "Myself, the Head Gothi and Minister of Defence came together at a time when the very leadership of our nation was attacked from within. Since then we've carried out investigations and are now of the belief that should any future sleeper agents be present they would have used the chaos of the destruction of the Union to strike.  EAST MORELAND TREATY BRINGS REBUILD SUPPORT Allsherjargoði Jin Odinsson today concluded the nations first treaty with an overseas nation. At the conclusion of his visit to East Moreland the Allsherjargoði signed a treaty entitled a "Treaty of Co-Operation and Friendship" with King David of East Moreland. During the collapse of the Union of Nordic People it was East Moreland who along with Achkaerin and South Hills who carried the brunt of relief efforts, it is thought that during this time East Moreland's Princess Freya provisionally discussed much of the treaties contents. Arriving back at Krokom Odinsson stated, "This treaty is neccessary for us to both have the finances and support needed to restore the territory around the former UNP without bankrupting our nation" The full contents of the treaty stretch to several paragraphs however amongst the articles were the re-establishment of a East Moreland training base in return for their nations elite Red Legion providing the Mjolinr and Housecarls with specialist training. Furthermore it sees East Moreland fund half the cost of modernising a military port in return for placing one of their pre-positioning ships there. The main support however comes in the form of $5billion in aid annually for the next four years, of which $1billion must be spent in East Moreland. The Head Gothi gave his verdict of the Treaty saying, "This provides us a great deal of funding to help us rebuild and get back on our feet, in return the Morelanders get great oppurtunities and a return to their military stability. I am pleased with what Jin has achieved and I'm grateful for the support this treaty will provide" When asked whether this would be the first in a series of treaties Head Gothi Daniel Stenberg stated, "We are not about to open our borders to everyone, at the same time however we would always be open to approaches from other nations in Mundus." |

 ANNUAL WHALE HUNT TO INCREASE IN SIZE It was announced today by the Ministry of Agriculture and Fishing that the annual whale hunt will again be permitted, in addition to Mikberg and Sputswald being permitted to hunt whales the town of Ruleholm have also been included this time. This year a total of 190 pilot whales are permitted to be caught however rules governing the hunt remain in place meaning the hunt must proceed using traditional tools and equipment. Last year 120 were caught and the food shared amongst local communities in the Northern part of the nation where agriculture during the winter is almost impossible. The hunt had not been permitted under the rule of the Union of Nordic People causing much resentment in these small communities who felt the UNP was taking away their traditional culture, under Åland independence however Head Gothi Daniel Stenberg permitted it to begin again. The lead up to the hunt saw protests by some in the international community and even saw the Commonwealth Treaty Organisation consider establishing a buffer zone between protestors and the Åland Navy inside Åland's EEZ, a blatant breech of the Fair Seas Concordt, something that many attribute to the beginning of Nya Åland's anti CTO sentiment. Speaking this year the mayor of Sputswald said, "It's vital we have this hunt this year, last year the winter was harsh and we just about managed to see ourselves through the cold winter, this year we've the added crisis that other communities have less because of the disaster in the UNP, we're having to make scarce resources stretch further, this whale meat will be a vital life line." The Grand Marshall of the Hunt is yet to be named and last year was the sister of former Archon of Seaforth Joshua Rhodes.  MILITARY TO REORGANISE The Ministry of Defence have today announced that they will soon release a review of the nations armed forces. Speaking at a Press Conference Minister of Defence Marita Kjeldsen said "Our nation has gone through a turbulent few months, we have a military that is fragmented, is in some areas over-equipped but in others under-equipped and has no real cohesion. We will be taking a full review of the standard of our equipment as much was damaged during the response to the meteor strike, furthermore we sit in a situation where we are attempting to look after the security of a smaller nation and merging two armed forces together. This will be a priority for our nation as we must be capable of defending ourselves for both foreign and domestic threats." Already announced has been a joint naval project with East Moreland which is likely to create many new jobs in the dockyards of the nation. |

 NAVY PLACED ON HIGH ALERT Following the announcement that the annual whale hunt will again be permitted for the second year running several nations media's have commented on the intention of various groups to disrupt the process. With this in mind Minister of Defence Marita Kjeldsen has placed the Navy on high alert saying. "This is ridiculous, at a time when our nation is attempting to rebuild, at a time when our armed forces are being used as builders, as labourers as medics and various other roles we must now divert crucial resources to patrol our waters to ensure communities that are cut of during winter in the North are able to feed themselves. Threats of protests and disruption to this vital food gathering protest are unacceptable, and just like last year we will take action to ensure that economic activity in our EEZ is not disrupted." It is understood that all twelve of the nations Snabpatro fast patrol ships will be on patrol at the edge of the EEZ meaning they can quickly respond to any suspected incursions. Additionally extra Longplane flights will be carried out to monitor any action by protestors. Minister of Foreign affiars Kris Leifsson has also spoken of the situation stating, "Should any vessel expect to be docking our travelling through our nations EEZ anytime in the next two weeks I would suggest they register their intent with our navy and coastguard. We can then offer advice on avoiding the area of the hunts and therefore minimise disruption to those ships using the EEZ for innocent passage as well as disruption of a vital food gathering operation." When asked whether ships who had not registered would be halted Minister Leifsson stated, "That is a matter for individual naval officers, should they believe the vessel poses a threat to an economic activity in our EEZ then I would expect the ship to recieve a visit from our navy."  EAST MORELAND QUEEN HECKLED IN KROKOM Queen Matilda Ironside of East Moreland was today in Krokom to help launch the Wilderness Protection Treaty, however when she attended a small anti-whaling demonstration after visiting the East Moreland embassy she was not warmly welcomed. The Queen is currently estranged from her husband and at first there was confusion amongst the Morelander staff about whether she was permitted to be there. She used a diplomatic car to attend the protest organised by Krokom's Wild Mundus Organisation supporters that saw around 500 people in attendance. The Queen gave a short speech where she outlined her belief that the whaling should not be permitted, however members of the Odinic Rite who were in attendance began heckling her and most of what the Queen said was unheard. Local OR Activist Sven Mjoll said, "We don't need a foreign Queen coming here telling us how to live our lives when she is hardly a moral example herself walking out on a husband, a daughter and from what we hear sleeping her way around a Formula Mundus paddock. She attempts to say it is morally wrong to kill whales when she has no morals." The Queen appeared to leave realising her words were not being heard, she did nowever speak to our reporter afterwards and said, "I am aware of the fact that this is claimed to be neccessary to keep alive culture and to keep people stocked with food during the winter. I can empathise with the need to feed families being a mother myself I would hate to see Rhiannon go without. However what is needed then is a long term strategy to help these communities to ensure that whale meat is not what they rely upon. I will be looking at ways of us doing that, there is no point us waiting until the whale hunt is announced to take action, we must take action the day after the whale hunt ends to support these communities so that next year they feel they do not have to do this." The Queen is expected to meet with several other nations along with our own Head Gothi in order to try and create a treaty to protect Hygelac and Hrothgar.  WHALE HUNT LIKELY TO BE THIS WEEKEND With several pods of Pilot Whales having been spotted heading towards the nations EEZ it is expected that the annual hunts will take place this coming weekend. Teams of boatman in Rulehom, Mikberg and Sputswald were out yesterday practicing driving pods towards beaches using a length of rope. The hunt will be presided over by a Grand Marshall in each area and they shall be both an honorary leader but also judge whether whales have meet a certain length criteria and been beached in accordance with rules. Mikberg have already announced that their Grand Marshall shall be actress, and widow of former UNP leader Willa Sunbrek, Krista Rosendahl-Sunbrek. The actress is also a citizen of Åland and has moved to Krokom in recent months. Meanwhile Rulehom ad Sputswald have yet to announce their Grand Marshalls It had been expected that there would, like last year, be attempts to disrupt the hunt however with the exception of threats from Dartfordia's Greenpeace and words from several nations condeming the neccessary practice there have been no incidents to trouble the large Åland Navy prescence in the region.  FIRST WHALES LANDED IN MIKBERG The first twenty whales of the annual whale hunt have been landed in Mikberg. A pod of fifty whales entered the area yesterday morning and boats from the settlement made their way out to meet them, with ropes between boats the pod was herded towards the waters. Grand Marshall, the well known actress, Krista Rosendahl-Sunbrek, was present in the lead boat and ruled that four whales must be permitted to head back out to sea, she then carefully inspected the whales which were deemed to have meet rules on their size. The whales were then dragged ashore where Rosendahl-Sunbrek made the first kill. The whole hunt lasted two hours and has seen the town begin to fill its quota of 65 whales. It is expected that Spitwald and Grunwald will see pods arrive there in the next two days. Already a further six pods have been seen heading towards Mikberg where they expect to easily fill their quota. Krista Rosendahl-Sunbrek will remain to oversee each hunt and said, "Today was rather exciting, its a moment where you get in tune with your inner Viking, imagining what their life was like hundreds and hundreds of years ago. I know some people in the world will be critical of me, however this is part of my national heritage, we're Nords, we eat whale, its not the hunt didn't have rules and we followed them. This winter the people of Mikberg will not starve, I am proud to have been part of that." |

 ICE DRILL TO MAKE "SUICIDE LEAP" As the Marduk Moon Ice Drill[1] nears the end of its drilling mission, the Joint Nordic Space Programme have lined up a makeshift secondary mission. In recent years various probes have spotted what looks like giant water geysers on the surface of the moon, estimates put them up to 100miles high. Two days ago the JNSP confirmed that the remote camera on top of the drill had spotted one such plume and now have begun plans to examine it. Project director Professor Hollahein explained what they have in mind. "The Ice Drill was designed with the ability to relocate should the landing site be problematic. It can effect two jumps and hopefully resettle, thankfully our first landing was excellent and the back up plan wasn't needed it now gives us a fantastic opportunity. We designed the Ice Probe to probe and monitor water, its body was designed so that any backwash onto it would flow down into a collection area so we wouldn't waste a drop we could monitor. Once the original mission is over (scheduled for 10th October), we will fire the first relocation engine and hopefully land near enough to the plume to monitor it and collect some wash from it. Should that be successful we plan our next jump to be into the crater from where the plume originates, we realise this may destroy the drill but frankly it could be worth it. Should the drill survive we'll definitely have data on these plumes. Its a very exciting time for the programme." It is hoped that the camera will be able to relay footage of the plume making it the first images of its kind.  WHALE HUNT OVER This years annual whale hunt has now been completed with the settlements of Mikberg, Spitwald and Grunwald. In total just short of the 130 whale quota was harvested with 128 killed. The food has now been distributed to local people. Remarkably the hunt went off without any issues despite several nations and groups such as Greenpeace threatening disruption.  SPACE STATE "CLOSER THAN YOU THINK" A group of Nordic scientists is launching what they say will be a new pacifist nation-state in space. The organisation calling itself Asgardia, after the mythological realm, says that they intend to have the "nation" estabalished within the next 60 years and that its creation is "Closer than you think." Asgardia "will become a place in orbit which is truly 'no man's land'," its website says. The new "nation" aims to launch its first satellite late next year and hopes to one day be recognised by the CTO and CMA .But some experts have cast doubt on the viability of the plan, given international law prohibits national sovereignty claims in outer space. "Citizens" of Asgardia, who will be scrutinised before admission, will eventually obtain passports, says Lena Winneson, a senior member of the project team who worked for the Joint Nordic Space Programme for 15 years. "Clearly it's difficult to wrap your head around the concept of how can you be a citizen of something you cannot put your foot on," she told the media. " There is nothing unusual about it if you are a citizen of a land where you don't live and where you don't go."The project is being directed by the Krokom-based Aerospace International Research Center, a private company founded by Åland scientist and businessman Dr Tobias Freysson He joked to reporters in Krokom at an event announcing the project that he would not be surprised if the media labelled him a "crazy rocket scientist" talking "utter nonsense". Its website says the new nation, the name of which derives from a city in the sky in Norse mythology, "will offer an independent platform free from the constraint of a land-based country's laws". The group says it will open up new opportunities in space for commerce, science and "peoples of all countries on Mundus". Competitions are being held to decide a national anthem and flag design however given Asgardia will not be associated with a self-governing territory, with its 'citizens' remaining on earth, its prospects for recognition are slim. The project is being funded personally by Dr Freysson and private backers, but the group have announced they will seek crowdfunding. Already more than 50,000 people have applied to 'join' the state online. On the legal aspects, Dr Freusson says he wants to create a "new judicial reality in space. "The project is creating a new framework for ownership and nationhood in space, which will adapt current outer space laws governing responsibility, private ownership and enterprise so they are fit for purpose in the new era of space exploration," a statement said.  ÅLANDERS COME HOME FROM HYGELAC TO WORLD'S SMALLEST NATION Following the fifth nation to sign the Treaty for the Protection of the Wilderness the scientists who have been based in Hygelac are to come home. The group established the Åland Republic of Hygelac as a response to proposed weapons tests in the unspoilt wilderness by Nueva Ardia last year, since then they have continuously inhabited the research base there to ensure that their was a prescence on what they claimed was the new nations sovereign territory. The government of Nya Åland, along with Achkaerin and East Moreland immediately recognised them as a sovereign nation, King David of East Moreland going so far as to claim citizenship for himself, Queen Matilda and their daughter Princess Rhiannon. The group have now brokered a multi-national treaty to ensure the area is protected, under the terms of the treaty once a fifth nation, a point reached today when Galacia signed the treaty, the Åland Republic of Hygelac have given up their claim to sovereignty however the government of Nya Åland have permitted them to keep the island known as Kulisle, a 1km square island in the middle of the river Krok, ensuring the nation will not entirely disappear. Their foreign minister Lara Kjelt has announced that the nation will still claim to exist, "It is important that major organisations have someone supporting the environment, as such we will seek to use our status as a nation to, when necessary, bring pressure to bring attention to environmental issues, there may be less than 50 of us with citizenship but we have the potential to make a lot of noise, our first task will be to get more nations around the world to sign this treaty, several big name nations are missing and they are the ones who should be leading the way." |

 HYGELAC ANNOUNCE SURPRISE SQUAD As the draw for the World Cup has taken place the world's smallest team have announced their squad. Tiny micronation Åland Republic of Hygelac exists on a 1km square island on the middle of the river Krok in Nya Åland, the island is home to two houses and six people live there. These six people are the staff of the Hygelac Initiative, an organisation dedicated to help protect the wilderness of Hrothgar and Hygelac by promoting awareness of the icey lands at the extremes of our planet. The nation have a total of 172 citizens, many of them having claimed citizenship during the crisis caused by the threat of weapons testing in these places. The nation was set up to try and bring international pressure on ending these tests and saw the signing of a wilderness protection treaty. The nation does however have a football team of sorts, it currently sits in the third tier of the Nya Åland league and lies in 10th place in the 12 team league. The national coach is, like many of the team, Robert Skansson is a scientist who was based at Hrothgar when the nation claimed sovereignty, he said, "We entered the world cup tournament as a bit of fun and to help raise awarness of the enviornment, to actually be heading to Kiryat Gat to play is a weird thought, but one we'll enjoy. While in Hrothgar we spent evenings watching games on TV so I think its safe to say football is popular." The nation have a total of 71 male citizens, with just 30 falling between the ages of 16 and 35, the years considered prime for football. "The lack of players causes us a few issues, when you think getting a squad of 23 is easy for some, we've had to scrape a team together and many have never meet each other." Two members of the Hrothgar squad are sure to raise eyebrows, King David III of East Moreland is listed among the squad members and according to Skansson is a box to box midfielder. "I think what will surprise many is the fitness of our team, we've got a lot of military members and ex-military. King David is an extremely fit individual and was willing to step in, I know he loves sport and was willing to back our cause during our nations birth, this is a small thank you for that support." The other surprising inclusion in the squad is Jin Odinsson, the Head of Government of Nya Åland, the politician is a keen sportsman and former sports journalist. When he was 12 he had trials with IFK Krokom as a goalkeeper, however he was released at the age of 16. Skansson said, "Odinsson has some experience of the game beyond a kick about, like King David he took citizenship as a political gesture, now he's going to a World Cup." Skansson, who will also be playing as a striker for the team, says that he does not believe they'll be a threat to the big teams. "The first whole team training session will be in Kiryat Gat and we'll be staying in a hostel rather than a hotel. We'll not be travelling with a host of coaches, physio's and the like, it'll just be fun for us but if we can take a scalp then it'd be even better."  12 ARRESTS FOR "RELIGIOUS CRIME" ON CHRISTMAS DAY Over the Yule period the minority Christian population of Nya Åland celebrate their own religious festival of Christmas, a time when they celebrate the birth of Jesus, the son of their God. This year however in Krokom twelve Christian's were arrested on Christmas Day for breaking the nations religious laws. The twelve people were arrested in two seperate incidents, the first outside a centre used by Christians in the Felbek district of the city, and the second outside a private residence in the Halst region. Under the nations constitution Odinism is the only recognised religion, and the display of symbols from other religions is banned, as is preaching, teaching or promoting any other religion in public. It is thought that at Felbek a total of five arrests were made when a group of Christian's began singing Christmas songs, a Police spokesman said, "Officers passing by heard singing on the street at 7am, believing this was particularly early for such behaviour in a public place they stopped to offer advice, upon hearing the nature of the songs praising Christianity the singers were offered words of advice about their actions. This advice was not taken and they were given a formal warning, with this warning ignored officers were left with no choice other than to make arrests." The five people arrested have been released on bail and are due to appear in court in the next few days. At the Halst incident it is believed a family had gathered in a private residence to celebrate Christmas, something that is permitted, however the household had placed a Christian Nativity scene in a communale area of the residence, a block of flats. This lead to offices being called by another resident who complained, the Police who responded offered to help the family move the decoration into their private area of the residence however this was refused, after an exchange of words between neighbours and the family Police arrested seven of the Christian family, as well as two of the other residents. It is believed that the other residents were arrested for "Public Order offences". The Christian family will appear in court in the coming days, while the non-Christians were released with a Police caution and a 2,200 krona fine. Head Gothi Daniel Stenberg made passing reference to the arrests at his weekly press meeting saying. "The constitution was drawn up and voted on by the people of this nation, it clearly states that wearing symbols of , or promoting a religion other than Odinism is not permitted. It is not like the Police went out looking for these arrests and they were the last option avaliable to them under our law. The officers did the right thing and anyone living here must respect our laws and constitution." |

SENIOR MINISTER RESPONDS TO DARTFORDIAN EMBASSY "OH...IT'S A PROTEST?" Following an announcement that the Tytor and Dartfordian governments have condemned the recent arrest of Christians, and that the Dartfordian embassy has been decorated in response. The unique protest however went unnoticed by many people in the capital, including Minister of Defence Martja Larsson. Asked about her response to the "Christmas Decoration" incident she replied, "Oh....it's a protest? I'd spotted they'd decorated with trees and lights, lots of pretty bows and red colours on trees, I thought they were just joining in with our Yule celebrations." The Minister went on to explain, "If they were trying to make a political point then perhaps they should have put out a few Jesus on Crosses. For the past week we've all been celebrating Yule and most families have brightly decorates trees in their gardens. I'd even planned on sending them a nice Yule log up there when I saw it on the drive in, it's kind of ruined it now." The Minister then went on to talk about the current issues. "I personally find the matter rather bemusing, not from Tytor, they've made their disdain for us only to clear since we gained our independence, however in Dartfordia we have a nation that visited us when we applied for the now dead Pan-Albion Congress, came and visited our nation after Tytor demanded some form of human rights inspection, a degrading process we allowed ourselves to be put through for the sake of the continent. At the conclusion of talks, tours and an oppurtunity to question the entire cabinet Dartfordia supported our admission knowing our laws on religion as they were explained during the process. What we now see is a nation willing to apparently have no issue with us having these laws, but they do have an issue with us enforcing them, rather a bizarre stance personally." The recent article on it in the Dartfordian Broadcasting Company latest edition also explained that the nations "had failed to reach an agreement over reconnecting of the Trans-Albion Railway" to which Larsen explained, "We actually find this pretty insulting. We as a nation face an unprecidented rebuilding task, Uppsala currently has around 200,000 homeless and parts of the city are still rubble, reconnecting the Trans-Albion Railway or even extending it is not our priority, ensuring these people do not freeze to death during a harsh Nordic winter is. What we see here is a nation obssesed with its profits, talking about a company losing money while our people lose their lives is a stark reminder of the reason why I for one am glad the Pan-Albion Congress failed, an organisation that at Albion's greatest time of crisis did nothing, the three nations that did the most were East Moreland, Achkaerin and South Hills, none of whom reside in Albion. As we now rebuild we've had no help from the outside world beyond one nation, again not from Albion. Dartfordia should concern itself more with people's survival than it's toy trains." |

 FIFTEEN DIE AS WINTER CRISIS HITS UPPSALA With temperatures reaching a low of -20°C and heavy snow hitting parts of the nation the destroyed city of Uppsala is suffering greatly. With around 200,000 people still homeless following the crisis there many are reduced to living in tents and makeshift shelters. A member of Nya Åland's Joint Emergency Team, Olivia Robertsson, spoke to us saying, "It's been a nightmare, we've struggled to get enough heating oil and gas canisters here to keep the place warm and the tents aren't ideal. We've had lots of sleeping bags sent over by the government of East Moreland in the last week but that isn't enough. We've seen fifteen deaths this week already, mainly the oldest who struggle to cope with the cold" There have also been an increased number of people presenting at JET medical stations with things such as hypothermia and frost bite. Olivia Robertsson, a junior doctor in training, has served on several JET missions across Mundus and went on to say, "This is in my view the worst crisis JET has had to deal with, it probably involves the most people and has gone on for month after month. The Nya Åland government are trying hard to get us everything we need and move the most vulnerable into new homes that their trying desperately to repair but its nowhere near enough. More will die before this crisis is over and there isn't a lot we can do about it." Since the destruction of the Union of Nordic People a major rebuilding programme has been underway in Uppsala trying to rehouse those left homeless by a combination of natural disaster and then a Gungnir rebellion. To date support for this operation has only come from East Moreland who have given the majority of their overseas aid budget to Nya Åland to support the work going on.  NAVY TO JOIN EAST MORELAND CARRIER As the East Moreland aircraft carrier Portworth enters the Sea of Alucard it was announced that ships from Nya Åland will join with the vessel to run a number of exercises. This will see our nations own carrier the Hringhhori work alongside their East Moreland counterparts including some East Moreland aircraft landing on the Åland ship and vice versa. The exercise is part of the Portworth's round Mundus training exercise and will also see the crew visit Krokom for some rest and relaxation. Minister of Defence Martja Larsson said, "It's vital for us to work with nations that do things differently to us to make sure our military are prepared for all eventualities. We've been fortunate enough to work with the Morelanders Special Forces who have helped train our own Housecarls and Mjolinir special forces and this exercise is another logical step in terms of co-operation. It is our hope that our newly reorganised and reintegrated armed forces are up for this."  SENTENCED PASSED IN CHRISTMASGATE Following 12 arrests for crimes breaching the constitutions religious rules a court in Krokom has today passed sentence on three of the individuals. Of the 12 arrested for two separate incidents, the first for singing Christian songs in public and the second for displaying Christian imagery in public, nine of the accused pleaded guilty and were issued with a 5000 Krona fine[1] and 20hours of community service. Three however refused to pay the fine and as such were taken in front of a judge. Having heard their arguments, which centred on it being against freedom of expression, the three were sentenced to 7 days imprisonment with a further 21 days held suspended for two years. One of the individuals, a Louise Mentoav is a joint Lodjain citizen who in 2014 gained dual nationality through length of residency, has also had a written warning that should she commit another offence then her Ålander citizenship will be removed and she will be deported.  LONGBOAT 3 TO DIVE TOWARDS NINTURA[1] Longboat 3 Probe has used a gravitational slingshot around Nintura's moon Titan to put it on a path towards destruction. Satturday's flyby swept the probe into an orbit that takes it in between the planet's rings and its atmosphere into what is known as a gap-run.This gap-run gives the satellite the chance finally to work out the length of a day on Saturn, and to determine the age of its stunning rings. But the manoeuvre means also that it cannot escape a fiery plunge into Saturn's clouds in September. The Joint Nordic Space Programme (JNSP) is calling an end to its multi years of exploration and discovery at Nintura because the probe's propellant tanks are all but empty. A Spokesman for JNSP explained why they are destroying the satellite in this manner. "Controllers cannot risk an unresponsive satellite one day crashing into - and contaminating - the gas giant's potentially life-supporting moons, and so they have opted for a strategy that guarantees safe disposal. If Longboat runs out of fuel it would be uncontrolled and the possibility that it could crash-land on the moons of Titan and/or Enceladus are unacceptably high. We could put it into a very long orbit far from the planet but the science return from that would be nowhere near as good as what we're about to do," In the years that it has been studying the system, the probe has flown by the haze-shrouded world on 126 occasions - each time getting a kick that bends it towards a new region of interest. And on Saturday, Longboat 3i pulled on the gravitational "elastic band" one last time, to shift from an orbit that grazes the outer edge of the planets main ring system to a flight path that skims the inner edge and puts it less than 3,000km above the planet's cloud tops. The probe will make the first of these gap runs later today, repeating the dive every six and a half days through to its death plunge, scheduled to occur at about 10:45 local time on 15 September. The Longboat Project saw four probes launched using a combination of traditional probes and some with solar sails. Longboat One was steered into the sun while Longboat Two left the solar system last year, contact with Two has been lost and is unlikely to be regained. Once Longboat Three is destroyed it leaves only it's brother probe Longboat Four in commission, it is currently near Marduk[2] and is using solar sails to try and reach the outer edge of the solar system before sling shoting around Kishar[3] and attempting to return to Mundus, this however is many years away. Dr.Larsson of the JNSP spoke about the demise of Longboat 3 by saying, "Longboats carried our Viking ancestors far and wide across Mundus. Many of our ancestors died bravely in battle and their body was committed to the flames, there are many tales of our Viking ancestors sacrificing themselves in battle for a noble cause, or for a fellow Viking. Longboat 3 is sort of following that tradition, bravely throwing itself to its doom in the depths of space to increase the knowledge we have of the heavens.
