Pride Celebrations Across Daniat Olland - Thousands of Dan's turned out this weekend across Daniat to celebrate LGBT Pride in the annual Pride Weekend. The jubilant and colorful celebration, complete with rainbow flags and men and women wearing all sorts of outfits, or lack thereof, was larger than expected. This year marked the ten-year anniversary of Daniat legalizing same-sex marriage, one of the first nations to do so. In Olland, thousands of people celebrated the historic anniversary with one of the largest parades since legalization. Numerous bands performed on extravagant floats as people sang, danced, and celebrated. The same was true in cities all over Daniat. President Henning personally opened the parade with a short speech. "For 10 years it's been on the books. We've shown the world that a nation can be just as successful, even more successful if people are allowed to be happy and spend time with the one the love, regardless of their sex or gender. This is a day to celebrate so, let's celebrate!" Prime Minister Schuler also attended a smaller parade in Torset and promised to push the Daniat government for more LGBT rights, such as stronger worker protection laws and more services for those struggling to cope with sexual and identity issues. "Same-sex marriage was only the first step of our nation's struggle. We must do more and we will do more." |

Parliament Begins Debate on Farm Bill ![]() Olland - The National Assembly began debating the farm bill in parliament today. The farm bill, which is passed every five years in Daniat, is the largest and most comprehensive agricultural package in Daniat's history, consisting of over 700 pages of dense legal text. If passed, the bill would make significant changes to Daniat's agricultural industry. Prime Minister Schuler's Government supports the bill as it currently stands and is slowly working to get the necessary votes for passage. While the bill was introduced last August, the agricultural committee spent months conducting hearings and reports about the proposed impacts of the bill. The most controversial part of the plan is the overhaul of the welfare model for food subsidies. In a concession to moderates, Prime Minister Schuler decided to not pursue a long-time liberal goal of increasing spending, but rather ties the monthly amount to yearly cost of living calculations. It will mean that each year, low-income families may receive more or less depending on how the economy is doing. Liberals are unhappy. "It is blatant conservatism." said Assembly member John Maxton (L) on the floor today. "This government is disregarding its promise o voters to uphold our state systems and instead is short-changing the poor families of Daniat." Daniel Willinger retorted in a statement from the Ministry of Fishing and Agriculture. "Daniat's government remains committed to helping the farmers, fishers, and families of Daniat. There are no cuts in this farm bill. In fact, each recipient of state money will receive an average $2,000 more a year. This bill is not gutting the farm system or state-assisted programs, but is simply streamlining them to prevent waste but also provide the necessary care for low-income families." Debate is expected to last for a few weeks with numerous amendments being voted on and many speeches being given. All will be reported by the Daniat Free Press. |

Mhorish Wind Farm Begins Operation![]() Delliat- Daniat's second largest wind farm, located off the coast of Daniat in the Mhorish Sea began full operations today. Expected to generate over 600MW, the wind farm will be able to power of 90,000 homes. The farm is 10 miles off the coast of Daniat, with the tiny fishing village of Delliat being the closest town to the farm. Consequently, the town has seen an explosion of construction and expansion to accommodate maintenance facilities and operation centers. New housing has also risen and tourism is expected to increase, expanding the town and its population. In a press statement, Minister of State, Leslie Williams praised the project. "Today further marks Daniat's commitment to clean energy and revitalizing its towns. The wind farm will bring new energy, literally and figuratively, to Daniat's shores with green energy and greater tourism to these magnificent turbines." The wind farm cost 11.7 billion Bronze Dollars, (Approximately $2.4 billion), but is expected to recoup those construction costs within 3 years due to the high demand and closure of fossil fuel power plants. The Wind Farm is owed and operated by the Daniat Government, under the Ministry of State. Daniat's commitment to green energy has raised questions in Parliament as to whether a Ministry of Energy should be created. "I think now's a better time than ever to streamline the State Ministry, especially with more green projects requiring more experts than ever," replied Mrs. Williams when asked about the issue. |
