"Following the resignation of Nueva Ardia from the Security Council it is necessary to pick a replacement from Adria, therefore the candidates are as follows. 1. Rokkenjima 2. Quinntopia 3. Supreme Soveriegnty 4. Verover Candidates will have 48 hours to confirm their candidacy and then voting will take place if necessary." OOC - Each of the four eligable nations have been PM'd and will confirm their candidacy here. They have until 9pm Sunday, UK time. Edited by DaveIronside, 4th July 2015 - 12:02 AM.

OOC- If I may jump in here with the legalities under the treaty Firstly let me state the key Article which is Article 22 section 3 "3. A retiring member shall not be eligible for immediate re-election." So as we all know the present Article 22 section eight states- "8. Should a vacancy occur within the first 18 months of a Security Council term, the Secretary-General shall organise an election to fill the vacancy. This election will take place in accordance with Article 22, Section 3, with the assumption that an elected member will serve a full term." Now I checked back into the archive sub-forum to establish when the Security Council was first assembled which I believe to be when the elections were closed and results declared this would appear to be the 18th May which in the context of the treaty would be more than 18 months ago since as far as I'm aware within the context of this treaty 18 months ICly is equivalent to six weeks OOCly. Therefore I would bring to everyone's attention Article 22 section nine "9. Should it occur in the latter 18 months of a Security Council term, then the Security Council may elect a nation in good standing, from the appropriate region, to sit on the Security Council. Article 22, Section 3 shall not apply in this instance, and it shall be assumed the member is not serving an official term." So since I believe we're in the latter 18 months of the present term, I think section nine applies and that would mean the Security Council votes in the replacement and that since Article 22 section 3 is disregarded for that nation on this occasion they may stand at the next round of elections. |

OOC: Ach is correct. This means: - The SC conducts the election - Whoever is elected will be eligible to serve next term - 18 months is considered 45 days. |

Nominations have closed. The following nations have placed themselves forward for election. Rokkenjima Quinntopia. Members of the Security Council will now be permitted to cast their vote and have until 9pm Wednesday (UK Time) to cast their vote. In the event of a tie the Secretary General shall cast the deciding vote. However with five members that should not happen. |

OOC - The process will have been open a week almost. The fact only now 3/5 of the Council have responded is a concern. We already have CTOMM dragging on and on I would hate to see a dead duck Security Council.

OOC- I point out that due to something in the LOA topic this is in the practical sense 3/4 who have replied since with Sekk on indefinite leave Odmony is in the practical sense discounted. Additionally I believe that considering which nations remain to vote- Seaforth and South Hills we're looking at probably realistically two probable outcomes not that I wish to prejudice the vote. As for CTOMM that's a discussion for another time and place. |
