Weirdest Doctor's visit ever

Ok, some of you already know some of this but it's so weird I felt like sharing it.

A few years ago now I had a doctors appointment, when I was sorting through some of the final box's after moving house last year I happened across something from that appointment in which instead of prescribing medicine the doctor in fact suggests that I spend time gaming on my PSP. Now the astute among you will quickly be aware of the nature of the appointment and may note the sense of the decision (even if a little unconventional)

so my question is this how worrying is it when a doctor does something like that?

I think it is worrying, if one or multiple of the symptons you had could have been stress-related.

I have seen physicians recommend gaming for a variety of reasons, including:

Stress, anxiety, ADD, ADHD, aspergers, ect. This is more common in pediatrics and young adults.
It is also reccomended for seniors in helping stave off some conditions relayed to age such as alzheimers.

In all age groups it can aid in recivery from certain types of brain injuries such as a hypoxic brain injury, drowning/near-drowning and CVA's (occlusive or hemhorragic stroke)

Frankly, it all depends on what your symptoms were, the reason for your appointment, differential diagnosis and treatment plan to whether I would be worried or not that videos ganes were recommendes.

Even though I wasn't prescribed to do it, I know video games eased some of my anxiety and depression as well as boosting my focus(coupled with smoking marijauna :P). Which is why I have such a fond love for many classic games, surprisingly my grades got better in school...

Also, I had a friend who's brother had aspergers and while he was hooked on gaming, they didn't take it away from him because it helped.

Now that Rhodes has explained...it all makes sense now :P

Although the specific perscribtion of PSP is a rare case, and highly debatable in the fields of medicinal ethics and virulogy. :P

Perhaps Ach mentioned he had one at some point during the interview. Then it would be natural to Rx the PSP rather than Rx another system where Ach would feel pressured to purchace one. Also, Rxing another gaming platform and costing Ach money when he had a perfectly good PSP at home is also an ethics violation. 😜

Another thing that every good doctor has to take into account is the major problem of handheld consoles: If you don't somehow stream them onto your TV, you're gonna get neck pain after a while.
