  KING JOHN INVITES WORLD TO FERNWOOD King John of Bretton, who also serves as the Commonwealth's Prime Minister, has taken the unprecidented decision to invite dignatries from around the world to Fernwood for the annual Bending of the Knee Ceremony. The ceremony has taken place for more than 300 years since the Commonwealth was established however this is the first time that invitations have been extended outside the Commonwealth. The ceremony is the annual re-affirmation of the oaths taken by the three Kingdoms after the election of the High Monarch. Since 1991 the oaths to Queen Victoria have taken place in Fernwood at Hassop Hall and using his power as Prime Minister to invite foreign Heads of State and Government to the Commonwealth this will be the first time the Queen will have meet foreign dignitaries. The move has caused some debate as to whether this is a move by King John to boost his own popularity with the masses who have for some time been calling upon Mercia to open diplomatic talks with other nations. So far the Queen has yet to comment on the invitations which have been taken up by several nations including Luvonia, Rokkenjima, Sparta and even usual anti-monarchist Epanastasia. The King of Bretton has also extended the hand of hospitality for people to remain in his Kingdom following the ceremony. Fernwood and the Commonwealth are currently beginning preparations for the annual celebration.  PRINCE RUPERT LEADS DELEGATION TO PRIDE Prince Rupert of Hassop, the youngest son of High Queen Victoria, has been dispatched to attend Gowu Pride. The 38 year old will be the official representative of the Commonwealth however Princess Alexandria of Calver and Princess Mary of Bretton have also been in attendance , however have been described by the High Queen as "having choosen to spend their vaccation in Gowu, unlike my son who is attending on official business." The attendance of the Commonwealth at the annual LGBT event has caused controversy in the conservative Kingdom of Hassop, while as a predominantly Cult of Helus worshipping Kingdom Bretton has a more liberal attitude having had its own Pride event for the last five years. It was also noted that Princes Rupert and Princess Alexandria travelled in First Class of RMI Airlines while Princess Mary travelled with several friends in Economy Class.  QUEEN CHANGES OATH CEREMONY FOR ANNIVERSARY It was announced today that the oath taken at the Bending of the Knee ceremony will this year be taken while placing a hand on the St.Albans Codex. The decision comes the morning of the ceremony and has taken many people by surprise. In a statement given to the press the Queen stated, "This year is the 700th anniversary of the writing of the St.Albans Codex, the oldest bible ever discovered in Mercia, it therefore seems fitting that like in the days of old, people take their oath placing a hand upon this holy book." The move however is likely to cause controversy as the majority of the Kingdom of Bretton have, for the last 400 years, been followers of the Cult of Helus after King Mark II converted to the faith. In Bretton's capital Stretton many citizens believed this decision was simply a means of revenge after King John, who serves as Prime Minister, invited the world to attend as his guest, something it is believed Queen Victoria disapproved of. One Bretton said "This is an insult, our King and our citizens are proud to be members of the Commonwealth and now they are being asked to swear an oath not in keeping with their own beliefs." However in Fernwood Archbishop Clancy said "700 years ago it would have been common for any oath to be taken on a book such as the Codex, I believe that it is a beautiful tribute to the creators of the document to use it, all these followers of the Cult of Helus saying the move is an attack on them are ridicuolous, the wording of the oath itself has not changed and the words written 300 years ago contain no specific religious references." So far King John, who is a member of the Cult of Helus, has yet to comment on the situation. |

 KING TO ATTEND HIGH PRIESTESS FUNERAL King John Wulfingas has been granted permission to attend the funeral of former High Priestess of the Cult of Helus, the sister of the King of East Moreland, Joanna Ironside. King John, who is himself a member of the Cult said, "This is both a personal visit for myself to pay respects to a woman who did much for my faith as well as show the world that Mercia respects people of all religions who work for positive changes in the world." It will mark the first official overseas visit by the King or any other high ranking diginitary in over 100 years. There are however still rumblings of disagreement between the King and High Queen Victoria following the Bending of the Knee ceremony where the Queen has insisted all members of the military, including Militia forces, take the same oath, currently that would involve swearing a Christian oath however the majority of Bretton's follow the Cult of Helus. Legal expert Tom Lawrence says, "Unless a compromise can be found it would essentially mean that all members of the Bretton Militia and any Bretton in the armed forces would either have to put aside their faith or if they refused a new oath of loyalty be classed as being AWOL, and would therefore potentially face the consequence of either resigning from their position or being arrested." Being AWOL is a military crime still technically punishable by death, however no executions have taken place since 1920 for the 37 men and women who have been found guilty of the crime, the usual punishment being dishonourable discharge following a two year prison sentence and fortifier of pension and veteran rights. |

 FIRST GAMES, FIRST MEDAL Mercia's Summer Games team have opened their account with a victory in the Men's Cycling Road Race, a victory that puts them at top of the medal table. Seth Jakeman from Hassop closed out his rival from Luvonia in a narrow sprint after the two had managed to get away from the Węgry-Szwecja competitor to make it a two way sprint. The 28-year old was given a lead out for the sprint by Alex Goddard who managed to finish 5th himself. The Mercian team are unlikely to stay at the top of the medal table however Jakeman said they would enjoy it while it lasts; "We're a rather small nation but sport plays an important part in our day to day life, I hope we can add one or two more medals to our tally. I'd like to thank Alex and the rest of the team for getting me in the position they did, I feel this is more of a team medal than my own" With the women's road race tomorrow national champion Kelly Murdoch will be considered one of the favourites with her explosive finish, meanwhile Rachel Morris could do damage with a long break such as the one she tried in the national championships back in September. |

 "PRIESTESS" AGNES TO BE ARRESTED. KING JOHN AIDS FREEDOM BID# Arrest warrants were issued today for thousands of members of the Commonwealth's Armed Forces and "Priestess" Agnes of the Cult of Helus. The military were supposed to take a new oath, as is tradition every year, to the High Queen, however they have refused on supposed religious grounds. The new oath asks the soldiers to ask "God" to watch over the High Queen and members of the Cult have refused to take it believing it interferes with their faith. Cultural Minister Jack Harris, a Professor in Theology, states "This is not in violation of any religion, the High Queen is asking for an oath and part of that oath is the taker asking the God which the Queen holds sacred to watch over her. I don't think this violates anyone's belief at all, they are just respecting the Queen's faith." Arrests were made on the day Cultists celebrate the Feast of Jekar, their God of War, in order to ensure they were all in one place and not able to carry out any organised resistance to their arrests. Each were charged with desertion as stated under the Military Law Act which governs the rights and responsibilities of the Commonwealth's soldiers. Meanwhile the "Priestess" was due to be arrested for failing to obtain the proper permission to build a place of worship. Jack Harris explains, "While traditionally the High Monarch has always permitted the lower monarchs to make decisions about building places of worship, this is a courtesy and not a law, it appears Agnes never asked for Queen Victoria's permission and therefore no delegation of the decision could take place." Several members of the Hassop Yoemanry attended the temple to make the arrest but were turned away by armed members of King John's personal militia the Bretton Dragoons in a tense stand off. King John personally was in attendance and refused to allow the "Priestess" to be arrested. It is also thought several foreign dignitaries are also inside the illegal temple which has now turned into a stand off, the High Queen's son Prince Rupert stated, "The Cultists have flaunted our nations law and traditions for a while hiding behind "Freedom of Religion", well they have that of course but certain laws still need to be followed such as military oaths and planning permission, it is my opinion King John is up to no good and it is sad that we now have a situation with unfortunate foreign VIP's caught in King John's scheme." |

 ROYAL MURDER The Palace at Hassop Hall have today confirmed a series of tragic events have taken place across Mercia. Yesterday it came to light that High Queen Victoria had died, originally assumed in her sleep however an initial assessment by the royal doctor indicated that she may have been suffocated. This prompted a search of the Palace for the last person to meet with the Queen, her own son Prince Robert. A brief search of the Palace grounds however ended in bloodshed when members of the Palace guard were fired upon by Prince Robert from one of the Hall's lodges, during this fire fight the Prince was killed. The motives behind Robert killing his mother is not yet clear however some believe it may have been part of a wider plot to remove both his mother and elder sister from blocking his path to power. Crown Princess Grace is to be coronated Queen of Hassop in 30 days from now as is tradition, meanwhile elections for High Monarch will be set for 60 days time. The election however is set to be a tense one as King John is currently a fugitive from the law himself having escaped custody following the actions of East Moreland's former Chief Councillor Timothy Carpenter. The serving CTO Refugee Council Chairman was seen to hack down three Mercian soldiers standing guard over captured rebels.  PRINCE OR KING RUPERT? Following the ongoing volatile situation within Mercia added confusion has arisen. With High Queen Victoria murdered by her eldest son, Prince Robert, it was assumed that Princess Grace would, as planned, inherit her Mother's throne. She was scheduled to be crowned next Monday and elections for the new High Monarch to take place shortly after, a system that has no legal standing for being postponed. However she had been assumed kidnapped by invading East Moreland forces, however after appearing in the CTO and calling the recent violence an "Attempted Christian genocide against the Cult of Helus" Princess Grace is apparently not under the influence of East Moreland forces, she has been granted asylum by the Kingdom of Dartfordia and upon arrival there called on Mercian Army forces and members of the Hassop Yeomanry to stop taking orders from her brother Prince Rupert. It had been assumed that Rupert was controlling the nation as Grace had been kidnapped. Today however the the hackvivist rebel group, Fsociety, leaked E-mails between Queen Victoria, of Mercia and the Attorney General, Joseph Moore. In this leaked correspondence it is apparent that Queen Victoria had not intended for Grace to inherit the throne. One e-mail stated "I require advice, it is my intention to have my crown passed onto my youngest son, Prince Rupert. I feel that sadly Grace and Robert are not strong enough to become monarch and continue to lead Bretton, and Mercia after my death. " The revealing of these mails has now cast into doubt the Princess Grace inheriting the throne, and with just a few days to go before a planned crowning it is likely that a dispute may well take place. With Rupert being in the country and his sister abroad claiming Asylum in Dartfordia it would be extremely difficult for her to take power. Meanwhile King John of Bretton has escaped Mercia and is currently in Rokkenjima at the CTO HQ. This means that only Calver and King Richard have a recognised monarch within the nation meaning he is in a good position for the upcoming elections for High Monarch |

 HASSOP CROWNS NEW KING Prince Rupert was today crowned King of Hassop and is now eligible to be elected as High Monarch in 10 days time. The Coronation was carried out by Cardinal Thompson inside the Palace at Fernwood and was witnessed by several hundreds guests as well as being shown on TV. Security concerns lead to the usual Cathedral coronation being ruled out. King Rupert was named as successor by his mother High Queen Victoria and her intention to exclude her two older children, Grace and Robert , from the line of succession. The move to crown Rupert was at first controversial however the recent leak of e-mails confirmed that Rupert was indeed his mothers choice. As it stands Rupert will now be eligible for election as High Monarch in 10 days time when ballots open despite fighting in parts of the country. He will be joined on the ballot by King Richard of Calver, a region relatively unscathed by fighting, as well as King John of Bretton, however his ability to effectively campaign will be negligable as he is in hiding in the CTO HQ in Rokkenjima. Those elections however will now face problems as a CTO resolution raised by King John is seeking to force a large section of the international community to reject he results of the elections. King Rupert used his coronation address to speak about the nations issues.
King Rupert also announced that he has now set a date for his marriage with Princess Mary of Bretton, the wedding is due to take place two days before the election. |

 LONG LIVE THE QUEEN Yesterday King Rupert of Hassop married Princess Mary of Bretton in a private ceremony at Fernwood Barracks. The wedding was due to take place at Hassop Hall in Fernwood however the night before the ceremony an East Moreland bombing raid damaged the Palace killing three members of Palace staff. Despite this tragedy Rupert choose to proceed with the ceremony saying, "This is an act of defiance against international aggression." The ceremony was carried out by the Archbishop of Hassop who upon completing the marriage also crowned Mary Queen of Hassop, the marriage now makes Rupert both the King of Hassop and a Prince of Bretton. Following the marriage ceremony and coronation the King and Queen hosted a feast for around 200 guests however the pair did not stay until the end. The following morning King Rupert spoke to the Press stating, "I am delighted to have married a beautiful woman such as Mary, I know there is a significant age gap but age means nothing to love. One day in the future my darling wife will become Queen, not just of Hassop, but also of Bretton, uniting the two Kingdoms. This marriage is therefore a chance to restore peace and order to Mercia. As I am now a Prince of Bretton and the most senior Bretton royal in Mercia I would like to order those members of the Bretton Dragoons to stand down and return to their homes, their rebellion is now over and they have nothing to fear. Do they honestly believe a honourable woman such as Queen Mary would permit them to be harmed? Do they believe a fellow Cultist would not stand by their oath? There is obviously no reason for them to continue their rebellion, infact they damage their own King, my father in law's oppurtunity to become High King. We have those elections in just four days now, and if these Bretton's are busy running around rebelling they can not vote and if they can not vote King John is unlikely to win, it's therefore vital they return home and make their voice heard." |

 NEW HIGH KING NAMED AND CROWNED DESPITE TAMPERING Yesterday the Commonwealth of Mercia crowned King Rupert of Hassop as the new High King of the Commonwealth. The youngest son of Queen Victoria won the election of High Monarch which was disrupted by tampering from East Moreland and Cultist Rebels. The new High King also immediately crowned his wife Queen Mary as the new High Queen. This now means Rupert is simultaneously the High King, King of Hassop and a Prince of Bretton, any child he has will now one day become King of both Bretton and Hassop, the first time this has happened in the history of the Commonwealth. The new High King immediately took steps to end the recent conflict within the Commonwealth by ordering all members of his personal militia to return to barracks along with the Regular Mercian military. He also requested that those forces belonging to East Moreland, Ui Cenneslaig and Achkaerin remain in their present positions. Speaking briefly following his coronation High King Rupert said, "I am sorry to say I was mislead by my mother and her military advisers, now I am fully aware of the situation I will do all I can to find peace within my nation. I would think the fact I successfully ended the siege in Bretton without the loss of blood shows I am determined to act peacefully. I hope now that the world will give me that opportunity." It was later announced that Queen Victoria's military adviser Captain Fairbrother was arrested on suspicion of multiple murders and was taken to Fernwood Barracks to be placed under guard while an investigation takes place.  KING OF CALVER'S MISTRESS PREGNANT Claudia Allez, the Duchess of Runnymead and the Mistress of King Robert of Calver has announced she is expecting her second child with her lover. The two have been in a relationship since 2006 and already have a eight year old son, Simon Duke of Ogston. The 30 year old Vendosian and her affair with the King have made Robert unpopular in Calver as Queen Alice is widely respected for her charitable works. Claudia confirmed her pregnancy saying "I'm thrilled. I can't wait for Simon to have a little brother or sister and I know how happy children make Robert, he can't wait to be a father again and he's such a fantastic father to Simon. Robert is a very kind and caring man and I'm so glad that I can make him happy." Queen Alice, Prince Arthur and Princess Alexandria have yet to comment on the pregnancy which is likely to make Robert even less popular with his people. |

 GENOCIDE SUSPECT COMMITS SUICIDE Captain Fairbrother, the Hassop Yeoman officer at the centre of allegations to carry out the Cultist genocide under orders from High Queen Victoria has been found dead in his cell at Fernwood barracks. A spokesman for the Ministry of Defence made the announcement saying, "At 5:08am on the 13th of June during a scheduled cell check guards at Fernwood Barracks discovered that Captain Fairbrother had strangled himself using lengths of ripped up bed sheet. Guards entered the cell and attempted CPR however it was quickly evident that the inmate was dead." Graham Fairbrother was a former Cultist who converted to Christianity three years ago. It is suspected that High Queen Victoria recruited him to carry out this religious attack because of his in depth knowledge of the Cult of Helus and its practices. The 32 year old Yeoman officer was a former member of the Mercian regular Army having served in the Royal Mechanised Infantry. He transfered into the Yeomanry around a year after his conversion. He was married and had a six month old son.  PRINCESS ALEXANDRIA TO STUDY ABROAD The Princess of Calver, Alexandria Madoc today announced that she would be heading to Krokom in Nya Aland to study her Masters degree in Oceanography. The Princess is said to be excited at the prospect of living outside Mercia stating, "I've spent all but around two weeks of my life inside Mercia, and while I love Calver and Mercia there is something exciting about a new land and the opportunities that come with it." It is also thought that the Princess is angry at her father and his mistress expecting another child. It is well known that Alexandria and her father's mistress Claudia do not get along well and she has often refused to she her step brother Duke Simon of Ogston. The Princess is also extremely close to her mother and has quiet often been reported to have had blazing rows with her father in Palace grounds. |

 CONFUSION AS HIGH KING RUPERT NAMES "UNITY" CABINET High King Rupert today announced his first cabinet since being made King of the Commonwealth of Mercia, his appointments into what he described the "Unity" Cabinet however have caused confusion. Within his cabinet are representatives of all three Kingdoms of Mercia, something Rupert described as "necessary if we are to rebuild the unity of our Commonwealth, the voices of all three Kingdoms must be heard." Additionally the cabinet is seen as rather young with many of its members being people whom Rupert went to University with or are known friends, this has brought calls of "cronyism" from some sections of the political system. Further confusion was sewn however in the fact that two of the cabinet members, King John of Bretton and Princess Alexandria of Calver, are not currently in the country and are unlikely to be so for the foreseeable future. Rupert explained, "The members of the Commonwealth Council selected King John as Prime Minister and I am not willing to stand in the way of that Council's democratic voice, until John returns home the position shall be kept open for him." Meanwhile Princess Alexandria had announced she was expecting to start studying in Nya Aland, however King Rupert believes. "Alexandria has always been keen to serve the Commonwealth, as someone with a degree in Oceanography she has the skills we need in a Minister of the Environment, I hope she will accept." One position remains unfilled, that of the Celtic Protectorate Representative which under the terms of the agreement with Ui Cenneslaig, will be appointed by King Finley of Ui Cenneslaig as will be responsible for the day to day running of domestic affairs within the Protectorate.  EQUALITIES MINISTER CRITICISED FOR "QUOTA" IDEA Newly appointed Equalities Minister Annmarie Presley has come under fire for a new proposal to introduce a "Quota" system to ensure fairness in Mercian society. The 33 year old former fashion designer became Equalities Minister following the coronation of High King Rupert and has been "considering systems to make the Commonwealth more equitable" for several months. Her first plan to be presented to High King Rupert yesterday and was outlined as essentially introducing a quota system based on faith, nationality and gender into key industries and services. For example the national police force would be forced to have a make up in line with the percentage of people living in each Kingdom, but also with the percentage of faith, therefore around 30% of the Police Force would need to be members of the Cult of Helus, following the recent troubles this number is 9%. Miss Presley stated, "The Police need to start ensuring they recruit from communities that are under-represented more actively. It is vital that 30% of te Police Force are Cultists, it would go a long way towards ensuring they feel safe in their homeland and that the police are more likely to deal with the matter sensitively." People failing to fulfil quotas and believed to be making no effort to do so would be heavily fined. The move has been criticised by some stating that it favours minorities and limits opportunities for many people. The Dean of Fernwood University said, "The idea of us trying to fulfil quota's is ridiculous, currently 10% of our students are Cultists, around 10% annually of our applicants are Cultists, look at where Cultist students apply they apply to Universities in Bretton such as the Royal Bretton Academy, ironically a University that last year was ranked higher than us, a University that is more tailored to the social needs of the Cult and closer to their families. To then fine us for the choices of students is ridiculous." The move however is unlikely to be taken onboard by High King Rupert.  MERCIAN RUGBY TEAM FACE WITHDRAWALS Mercia's Rugby coach has faced a selection headache ahead of the upcoming World Cup, so far a total of 11 people have withdrawn from the squad including former Mercian Captain Greg Clarke. The Bretton RUFC skipper, aged 32, stated "It was a tough decision, this will probably be my only World Cup, but as a Bretton and a Cultist I can not in good conscience represent Mercia, I had hoped, as I'd heard rumours, we'd compete as individual Kingdoms, however that's not the case and I can not stand shoulder to shoulder with my team-mates and sing the national anthem of a nation that several months ago tried to kill me and my family." The Captain was joined by several younger players who followed their captains lead including influential 21 year old centre Alan Milne. Head Coach Bill Turner said, "I'm disappointed people have taken this stance, we're trying to rebuild our nation and an example could have been made showing harmony between us all. We're a team made up mainly of University students who play in the University League, as such we're going to find it tough anyway, now its seeing several key older players withdrawing it'll be a up hill struggle but we'll over come." One Cultist who is going is Tom Steele, a 19 year old student at Grey's Academy in Bretton, the winger said, "A world cup is a great thing to play in and its something I want to experience in my life. Am I upset about the genocide, of course I am, two friends died in it, can I blame any of the guys in the team, not at all. I firmly believe there all good blokes who if they could have done something would have. I'll proudly pull on the shirt and take the field to show three can become one."  HIGH QUEEN PREGNANT During today's memorial ceremony for those murdered during the religious fighting recently experienced in Mercia the High King has announced that he is to become a father. The High King claimed that the child would show that the Commonwealth was united as he is Christian while his wife High Queen Mary is a Cult of Helus follower. The High King is said to be excited at the prospect of becoming a father and highlighted that the child would one day be both ruler of Hassop and Bretton, something that has never happened before. The 36 year old High King married the then Princess of Bretton, aged 19 years old, during the conflict. The then Prince Rupert described the wedding as, "A beacon of harmony" and believes that it would have done much to help defuse the tense situation during that time. The High Queen has yet to speak about the pregnancy and was very quiet during the memorial service, something Home Minister Hugo Sappington put down to "morning sickness."  KING ROBERT STEPS DOWN FOR "HEALTH REASONS" A further announcement about the future of the Commonwealth came during the memorial service when High King Rupert revealed that King Robert of Calver had announced his intention to abdicate. The High King said he would not go into details but announced the King would become known as an Archduke and wished him a happy "retirement". The former King had not spoken of any illness and the announcement came as a surprise. He will be succeeded by his son Arthur who said, "I had hoped many more years would pass before I inherited the throne, my father though knows his health will mean he can not complete all his duties and so he has nobily stepped aside. I would ask Calverites to be patient while we make the transition." The new Archduke however did not return to Calverton Hall, the seat of his family, instead he travelled to Runnymead Estate, which is owned by his mistress Claudia Allez, who is expecting her second child with Robert. |

 POLICE CRITICISED FOR HANDLING OF RUGBY PARTY Following the nations defeat to Dartfordia in the rugby world cup quarter finals the residents of Ulvaston, in Bretton, help a party to celebrate the teams achievements, this however ended in tragedy as three people were killed following contact with the Police. Rugby is a game extremely popular with the Cult of Helus minority of the country and the streets of Bretton saw many such events as the team exceeded hopes. However in Ulvaston the police were called following reports of celebrations getting out of hand. Outside the towns Temple of Jekar a group had gathered drinking, singing and dancing in the streets. When Police arrived they attempted to break up the groups of around 200 people and according to Police Chief Jenkinson were, "faced with an irate crowd unwilling to comply with an order to go home. Officers challenged them and when faced with an increase in aggression began making arrests for drunken disorderly behaviour." During making these arrests one officer believed he had seen a gun and opened fire on the suspect who he believed was about to fire, this lead to further reactions from the crowd and more shooting. After the crowd ran off three people were found to be dead. The three men have yet to be named but two are thought to be brothers. Jenkinson stated, "Our officers took actions to prevent danger to themselves and we shall review their actions I am however confident that their actions will be proved to be justified." Meanwhile local Priestess of Jekar Helen Moriam said "This is terrible, to happen on a night of celebration makes it even sadder. In recent days in Ulvaston we have seen more police action at gatherings, just last week a group of youngsters were harassed while trying to carry out garden work here at the Temple, we've also seen Cultist stopped on the street and having swords confiscated. This is clearly victimisation that has now seen the death of three young men. We should return to the days of an elected police chief rather than one appointed by the High King's government."  SIX ARRESTED IN PATERTON FOR CARRYING SWORDS Six students belonging to the "Cultist Student Action Group" a newly formed political pressure group were arrested this evening as they tried to board a bus to campus while wearing swords. A police officer spotted them waiting at the bus stop and called for support, their was a brief stand off before the six students were taken into custody. The group have been charged with carrying an offensive weapon in public, a move which has caused outrage. "In Fernwood I could perhaps understand it" said the mother of one student, "But in Paterton, an area where almost everyone is a Cultists, it'd be like arresting someone in Fernwood for wearing a Fernwood United football shirt, its insane. Clearly these officers had nothing better to do." Police however say that the students, "presented a threat to public order" and suspected that they may have been "High and in no condition to responsibly be in possession of a weapon like a sword" the Police further added that they had to intervene, "For the protection of the public." The arrests however were criticised by Holly Evans of the Cult of Helus Student Union (CHSU) who said, "It's ridiculous, our heritage is under attack on a daily basis, we gathered outside a shrine when it was the Festival of Marissa, we began giving out flowers to passes by and singing, the Police said we had to move because someone had complained, we set up elsewhere and then they threatened to arrest us for trespass. We've come through a lot here in Mercia and I still feel under attack. I didn't run away when they tried to kill me and I won't now, I shall cling to my faith regardless." The CHSU have reported that they have seen an increase in the number of their members being in contact with the Police in the last three weeks, furthermore their survey of members showed a 18% increase in arrests amongst Cultists since this time last year. Holly Evans feels that there is definate targeting of Cultists, "Mercia is a religious nation, Christian and Cultist, its not hard to tell who is which, listen to anyone speak and you'll know, look for the cross, or the sword, it seems this becomes a signal to the Police. We saw three killed at a rugby party, now six arrested celebrating their faith. Its a scandal our leader is doing nothing about." |

 PRIESTESS SPEAKS OUT AGAINST "HELUSISM" The Priestess of Jekar, Elizabeth Daynes, has today spoken about the recent issues effecting those who follow the Cult of Helus. Speaking at a radio interview in Stretton the 36 year old Priestess said. "The Cult of Helus has always seen it's members stand together side by side, that scares some people clearly, we're seeing a new form of racism, I suppose we can call it Helusism, and its coming hot on the heels of an attempted genocide of people like me." The Priestess took calls from a number of concerned Cultists on the radio show, even going as far as advising some to move to the Celtic Protectorate, she said to one caller, "While Ui Cenneslaig may be getting criticised left, right and centre we should remind ourselves that the only nation in Mundus that was able to actually stop the genocide was the Cenneslaigian's, they've set up the Protectorate under Cultist Tim Carpenter and it's become a haven for those worried about being oppressed. New temples are being built, religious freedom flourishes and the Cenneslaigian military there are policing the region with a fair and even hand, I can't speak highly enough." The Priestess however said she would not be heeding her own advice. "I'm the Priestess of Jekar, my temple is in Stretton and that means my home is, I stayed in Bretton when the genocide came and I took up arms when I had too, what example would a Priestess of Jekar be if she tucked tail and ran." One caller suggested however that the Cultists wanted special treatment, she countered this saying, "We see Christian's able to walk down the street with their crucifixes proudly displayed, we see no Police outside their Churches on Sunday, yet for some reason a Cultist who is open about their faith is now 27% more likely to be stopped and searched than a Christian, furthermore this week I saw ten Policemen outside our Temple, I have no idea why but they spent a good ten minutes taking images from a CCTV van of our congregation as they left, tell me that's not some kind of profiling." She then expressed concern over the spreading nature of "Helusism" saying, "To now see this spread to West Moreland is a travesty, those communities there have long roots and to have police open fire on crowds is terrible. I urge those who hear this there to remember their duties under the Code of Canley, be respectful, don't endanger anyone, but be proud of what you are." She then had a message for East Moreland, "We consider Northfort our Holy Land, East Moreland is a nation with great global influence, I would urge their leadership to do something to help the Cultist's around the world. Ask questions of the Mercian's and Vaguzian's. We know that King David is not one to turn his back on the blood of Unasson and we've seen his commitment to his role as a defender of the faith." The Mercian Government commented on the interview saying, "Cultists receive the same treatment and opportunities and any citizen of Mercia. We need people to keep a cool head and not escalate the situation as we know religion in Mercia is a sensitive subject." |

 WHERE ARE THE MERCIAN EIGHT? A scandal has rocked Mercian rugby as eight members of the Mercian national team have failed to report for the teams flight back to Fernwood. The eight members include pack leader Nick Oaster, Ben Boden and Sam Christian, all prominent Cultists. The team was made up of around 50% Cultists and some suspect that with tensions riding high back home once more in the Cultist community they have taken the opportunity to avoid returning. Team coach Bill Turner said, "I am concerned, we went through the tournament as a team and the boys did brilliantly, they should all return home as a unit and be welcomed back by the nation, to now have the team disintegrate is awful, to not know where they are makes it even worse. I urge them to get in touch with us as soon as possible." The team flew back as scheduled leaving two members of the teams support staff in Vaguzia to help local authorities in their search for the missing men. High King Rupert even responded to the scandal tweeting, "Hoping the Mercian Eight are well, come home we miss you." leading many to level allegations against the King from his actions during the Cultist genocide, one Twitter user identified as MercianMike said "I think he means we "missed" you, clear reference to his countless murders." meanwhile MissyStrettonxxx said "If I could get out of this s***hole I would, good luck lads, keep running".  DEADLY CHEMICAL ATTACK IN CELTIC PROTECTORATE 62 people have been killed and around 120 severely injured following a chemical attack on the underground station of Madley in the Celtic Protectorate. Military teams from Ui Cenneslaig moved into the area after reports of people collapsing on the platform, the first medical teams to arrive on the scene discovered traces of a chemical element and response teams were called soon after. It took around 3 hours for the teams to finally clear the area, however the subway station remains closed until further notice, essentially bringing the city to a stand still. No one has yet claimed the attack however a time released canister was found in a rubbish bin by investigators. An announcement was made later that day by Major Ferguson of the Ui Cenneslaig Royal Medical Corps stating. "This morning a cowardly attack was carried out on the city of Madley, a chemical agent we have identified as Hydrogen Cyanide was used and was triggered from a sophisticated release system, we are sad to confrim that 62 people have been confirmed dead, however we suspect that number will raise in the coming days due to the severe damage caused by the chemical agent. The UC Military Police and local law enforcement are now following up several leads." The leader of the protectorate is East Moreland born Timothy Carpenter who has visited many of the soldiers involved in the operation. The Morelander stated, "This is a disturbing attack, it was rather sophisticated and that worries us for sure. We have not ruled out that this was some form of attack against the Cult of Helus community as 90% of Madley follow the Cult and we have seen the issues Helusism has caused around the world. I pray I am wrong in this account and that this is the work of some other motivation." The city of Madley is now under a curfew until 9am tomorrow and an increased Cennesliag presence has already been seen on the streets.  MERCIAN RUGBY PLAYERS IN HIDING Nick Oaster, the 52 times capped Mercian back rower has today appeared on instagram to explain his and seven others motives behind not returning to Mercia following the end of the rugby world cup. Speaking from a location he did not reveal Oaster said "Mercia is falling apart, even this morning we say the death of 63 people because of a mad man or some group, probably motivated by their hatred of my religion. I lost a brother and many friends in the genocide and nothing has been done to ensure it does not happen again, Cultists are not safe. It is my hope the seven of us can remain in a safe place and bring the worlds attention to the plight of the follows of the Cult of Helus. I can think of no other faith that is so persecuted at the moment yet little is being done to stop it. It is my hope we can keep sending messages to the world, keep our story in the press, that the world will take notice." |

 POLICE MAKE ARRESTS IN BRETTON OVER CHEMICAL ATTACK The Bretton Police Force today arrested five men in connection with the chemical attack on Madley yesterday. The attack, using a Hydrogen Cyanide canister killed 62 with more expected to die in the coming hours. Police in Morton raided a flat in the city centre catching five men still asleep as they stormed the flat. Police spokesman said that they had retrieved a number of hand guns as well as a 2nd canister of the gas which was stored inside a package recently arrived from Scordisci. The five men arrested have yet to be named but are being questioned in seperate police stations across the Commonweath, early indications indicate that they belonged to a group calling themselves Heluscide, several pamphlets and books were found calling for the destruction of the Cult of Helus. The Minister of Justice, Rose Shepherd, spoke to the press following meeting with the Police and gave the following statement.

 KING JOHN TO LOSE CROWN? It has been reported via a leak from the Ministry of Justice that High King Rupert has asked the governments law experts to investigate whether it is possible to strip King John of Bretton of his crown. The move is reportedly in its infancy and brought about by the fact that since the Mercian Genocide King John has yet to return to Mercia along with his wife Queen Rebecca and son Prince Mark. This has resulted in Alderman Timothy Greaves acting as regent of the Cult of Helus dominated Kingdom, this is said to anger High King Rupert who believes that the Kingdom should be being governed by the monarch. It is thought Justice Minister Rose Shepherd is leading a team investigating potential action and is expected to report back in due course. Should the High King find someway of removing King John from power it is likely that John's daughter Mary, who is currently High Queen, will inherit the Bretton throne as she is currently the heir to the throne. The move however may prove troublesome as John is highly popular amongst the people of Bretton, and also with many Mercians who credit him with being the first to open the nation up to the outside world. It is also understood that John is currently in Rokkenjima having fled their with the help of East Moreland during the recent troubles and has remained there since along with his family. This has left High Queen Mary as the sole Bretton royal in Mercia, she is also due to give birth to High King Rupert's first child in June next year. Despite our requests no one from the Ministry of Justice was available for comment  DAYNES LAMBASTES PATHETIC COUNCIL Elizabeth Daynes, the nations Priestess of Jekar has today spoken out against a planned construction of a council rubbish dump on land previously used as a place of rest for Cultists. The City of Tupton Council plans on building a new landfill site on the site of the former place of rest for the cities Temple of Helus. The move was also approved by the Parliament of Calver after an appeal by two local Cultists. Daynes has taken up the mantle of the protestors and has called on the Council to "respect the final resting place of over 500 people, their ashes have mixed into the ground making them part of the land that they loved, by digging it up and replacing it with rubbish you are not allowing them any dignity in death." The resting place if today a grove of several large trees which would be removed to allow for the landfill site to be constructed. The site was ceased to be used since 1877 when the Temple was damaged by fire and moved further to the centre of town. The Priestess said, "This is just another example of trying to defile Cultism in this nation, this site could have gone anywhere, I'm sure a farmer would have sold them land, but instead the Council, who have a duty of care to the residents of Tupton, both old and present, choose instead to give up an area of land put into their keeping to the detriment of Cultists.  THIRD CHEMICAL WEAPON FOUND IN BRETTON UNIVERSITY Members of the military were today called to the University of Ainmoor after a student spotted what he believed was a suspicious package. Members of the Royal Engineers responded after the package was inspected by local police bomb units, having flown from Fernwood in helicopters a four man team errected a large tent around the package. Two hours later the team emerged with what was later revealed was a chemical shell. The team placed it in a special box and took it away to be safely destroyed. The weapon is now the third Hydrogen Cyanide shell to have been discovered in Mercia, the first being used as part of the Celtic Protectorate chemical attack which has now killed 71 people. Meanwhile a second was found in Madley and five men arrested, they have since been charged with terror offences. Major Kirkpatrick of the Royal Engineers spoke to the press after his team had made the weapon safe saying "This is a worry, early observations put this down as the same type of gas and weapon as that we've seen the Scordisci military use. The writing on the weapon also seems to match the pieces found in the first attack leading us to think this probably came from the same source and batch. Had it been triggered then it would have been lethal, students between lectures would have stood no chance and thousands of people move through that area a day." The military have now been placed on high alert and the threat level has been increased from "Slight" to "Vigilant". The High King had been advised to cancel an upcoming trip to Bretton however Rupert has said, "I am a Prince of Bretton, as such I should not fear to go to my adopted home and walk among my wife's people."  JUSTICE MINISTER FILES TREASON CHARGE AGAINST KING JOHN Justice Minister Rose Shepherd today announced that her office have filed charges with the Crown Court to charge King John of Bretton with treason. Following King John publishing a letter calling for nations to recognise him as a King in exile the government have decieded to take action. Minister Shepherd said, "This is not something we have done lightly, it is expected that each of the monarchs of the Commonwealth take an oath of loyalty to the High King, the King of Bretton has yet to do this, however out of respect for his Father-in-Law High King Rupert has decided to not take action on this matter, however now we can not ignore this letter." King John now has 14 days to answer the charge and present himself for trial, otherwise he can be tried in his absence. While treason does still technically carry the death penalty in Mercia it has not been used in over 100 years, however the last treason trial was in 1977 when a Mercian military member was discovered to be selling state secrets, they were dismissed from the military with dishonor as well as facing ten years in prison. It is therefore unlikely that the prosecution will seek the death penalty and that the most likely penalty will be him being removed as King of Bretton. We contacted the East Moreland embassy in Rokkenjima to ask for a comment however King John refused to speak with us.  DEFENCE MINISTER TO HOST TRIBUNALS In accordance with the Celtic Protectorate agreement military tribunals will take place to assess the involvement of regular Mercian Forces during the Cultist Genocide. Roslyn Mathewson will be selected individuals to chair panels, and it is expected up to ten panels will operate, she has already announced that she will be inviting members of the Ui Cenneslaig military to act as some of the chairs. The panels will interview a total of 287 officers whose units operated in the vicinity of areas known to have seen multiple killings, the Tribunals will be an opportunity to investigate how involved regular forces were, it is assumed that the majority of the murders were committed by members of the Hassop Militia, and a separate Ui Cenneslaig lead investigation into those is due to commence shortly. Speaking from Fernwood Minister Mathewson said, "This is something we need to move on with quickly, at the moment a shadow hangs over our Armed Forces conduct and we must vanish that as soon as possible. I have no doubt that some of the things we hear may be harrowing as often it was the regulars who discovered scenes of slaughter, yet if we as a nation are to overcome this we must face this horror." |

 KING JOHN TO FACE TREASON TRIAL It was today confirmed that King John of Bretton would be charged with treason for failing to swear an oath of loyalty to the new High King, even going so far as to declare him illegitamate. King John is currently hiding in Rokkenjima, thought to be in the East Moreland embassy, along with his wife Rebecca and son Mark, the three have not been seen since leaving Mercia during the recent genocide. Currently the Kingdom of Bretton is being governed by High Queen Mary, King John's daughter and heir, and soon to be the mother of High King John's child. The Minister of Justice, Rose Sheppard, confirmed the action saying. "I believe that High King Rupert has been very patient, he's tried letting John return, he's asked several times and made attempts to reconcile the situation, however it is clear King John would prefer to take this oppurtunity to sieze power for himself." It is expected that an arrest warrant for the King will be issued in the coming days, however it is thought highly unlikely that Rokkenjima will co-operate with the document.  F-111 REPLACEMENT ANNOUNCED After almost 40 years in service it has been announced that Mercian based Airplex have been awarded a major contract to replace the aging F-111 fleet. The new design for what is being called the F-112 Skylark was unveiled by Minister of Defence Roslyn Mathewson who said. "We have been toying with replacing the F-111 for some time, its been a fine servant but its getting on a bit now. As such we're looking to bring in the Skylark, it will be a more stealthy aircraft and will bring our Air Force bang up to date in terms of technology. It is my hope that we can have the first F-112 in service early next year with several more to follow." Mercia possessed 100 of the F-111's, however several were destroyed when East Moreland's Navy launched strikes against Air Force bases during the Mercian Genocide, around 60 remain in service. Minister Mathewson announced that the original order would be for 50 Skylarks. |

 "WHAT RIGHT DO CRIMINAL CTO HAVE TO JUDGE ME?" ASKS HIGH KING High King Rupert has today spoken openly on national radio about the impending resolution currently being voted on by members of the CTO. The High King stated. "This resolution summons a former member of my mother's government to appear before the CTO, so that they may resolve a matter of whether I am King of Hassop, this is after the fact that a whole string of e-mails were leaked to the world, e-mails that anyone could have checked, there is clearly an intent from my mother to name me as her heir in public, should the fact that her murderous son have ended her life stop her final wishes from being upheld. My mother was a woman with flaws, we saw that from her inability to stop the genocide, however she was always good intentioned, she knew her end was coming as she had cancer and that explains the hurried e-mail exchange. The Mercian courts are happy with that and that is good enough for the people of Mercia and therefore good enough for the CTO. My sister Grace is god knows where, and frankly it is believed by many that she was in league with my brother who murdered our dear mother, yet she is summoned before the CTO too, another insult, what right do the CTO have to summon a Princess of our nation? They have no right nor authority to summon anyone, especially when we are not members and do not recognise their authority over Mercia. Finally, how can the CTO, an organisation that is already clearly plotting to install John Wulfingas as King of Mercia, claim to be independent. If they were judging things honestly they would comply with Mercian law, clearly something no one involved in creating this resolution has even a passing knowledge of. Secretary General Serenity has spoken of amending the resolution, surely that is her job before it reaches a vote. The Secretary General is in effect in charge of a whole team of civil servents, lawyers and administrators, it is her duty to ensure that resolutions are lawful, she has dropped the ball. If the CTO can suggest carrying out a miscarriage of justice once then they can easily do it again and again. Surely the world must see the CTO for what it is, an organisation that works only for the interests of the few. Look at the number of nations who have replied to King John's claim to the the Kingdom of Mercia In Exile, not a single nation has in any way supported him publicaly. The CTO are a criminal organisation with its nations collaborating to break the constitution of our Commonwealth which has lasted over 200 years. I fully expect the Secretary General to do her job which she was elected by an international community to do, seek lawful and just ways of securing peace and stability for the world. She is failing and her act here may cause a civil war, our nation has been living on a knife edge as we put our Commonwealth back together, our police have to deal almost daily with some kind of tension, attack or threat, these will only increase if we have no High Monarch, and should the majority who voted for me feel their will has been ignored and a puppet installed then I suspect there will be a bubbling over of tensions. I have spoke with King Arthur of Calver, a man who has sworn his oath of loyalty to me, should he have believed I was unjustly elected would he not have supported John or made his own claim by now? The fact that the King of Calver is willing to stand by me should be all the international community needs." The High King is due to visit Ui Cenneslaig soon as part of their parade to honour the end of the Scordisci conflict, however reports now suggest he may be unwilling to leave the nation due to fears the CTO will try and prevent him returning should the resolution pass. The 19 year old High Queen went into labour late last night and was rushed to a private hospital in Fernwood where after four hours of labour she gave birth to a healthy young boy weighing 9lbs. The official announcement came at 6:17am when the King's friend and Home Affairs Minister, Hugo Sappington, exited the hospital and read an official statement.
Within minutes of the announcement crowds of well wishers had gathered to celebrate the child's birth by leaving cards and toys at the hospital entrance. Several hours later the High King tweeted his thanks to the nation before urging people to not bring toys to the hospital but instead to donate them in Oliver's name to their local hospital or young person's charity. There has however been no response from King John Wulfingas, the child's grand-father and ousted King of Bretton. He is currently in exile in Rokkenjima and is wanted for trial on treason charges. |

 KING SUSPENDS MCUR Following the abduction of High Queen Mary and Crown Prince Oliver the Palace have confirmed that High King Rupert will suspend the Mundus Convention on Universal Rights. Earlier today the High King issued a decree that established a state of national emergency which sees it now become compulsory to carry ID at all times, gives the Army power of arrests and also suspends the two elected bodies of government. The suspension has been called indefinite and means that theoretically rights such as Freedom of Speech, Right to a Fair Trial and other such measures can be ignored. The High King has already stated that the nation shall be run by decree and that he shall take local decisions on behalf of Hassop and Bretton, for which he is King via marriage to Mary, meanwhile Calver shall be governed directly by King Arthur Madoc, however any decree's issued must be counter-signed by High King Rupert. Rupert has issued a plea to the world to help with the investigation after releasing the names of three people arrested on suspicion of being linked to the case. The first arrest was Michael Sampson, a 26 year old former member of the Royal Logistical Corps' Bomb Disposal branch. He was found in possession of 2.8kg of plastic explosive similar to that used in the attack and several pro-Cultist leaflets were found in his possession, one of which has called for the creation of an independent King of Bretton. Just moments later Anna Wright, a 37 year old who has been working as an interpreter for the Ui Cenneslaig Forces in the Protectorate was arrested after a search at the border. She was discovered crossing the border between the Commonwealth and the Protectorate with traces of explosive in her vehicle. The final arrest came in the early afternoon when Cameron Parker, a 15 year old who was discovered to have repeatedly accessed the hospitals databases and at one point had hacked into their CCTV recording system was arrested after police raid them family home. The three are expected to appear in court tomorrow afternoon amidst high security. |

 NON PRESENTATION OF ID NOW ARRESTABLE Following the implimentation of martial law the King has passed a decree making it an arrestable offence for anyone in the Commonwealth to not hand over, when requested by the military or police, their ID card. Until this decree was passed their was no expectation for citizens to carry their government issued ID Cards, however it is now compulsary to carry an official ID. This measure means it will also be neccessary for non-citizens or tourists to carry their passport with them at all times. A government spokesman explained, "With the nation having witnessed blatant terrorism on our soil it is important to be more security conscious and as such the security forces being able to quickly and accurately identify people will help keep the nation safe. We are aware it is not always practical for tourists to carry a passport at all times but we ask them to co-operate until such a time as we get airports and ports issuing temporary ID cards" The security forces have been ordered to arrest anyone without their ID and they will be imprisoned without being referred to a court for 48 hours while their background is checked for the first incident. Tourists failing to comply will be deported once their embassy have confirmed their identity.  CULTISTS IMPRISONED FOR TERROR OFFENCES Three Cultists arrested in the aftermath of the kidnapping of High Queen Mary have today been sentenced. Michael Sampson, a 26 year old former member of the Royal Logistical Corps' Bomb Disposal branch was sentenced to 10 years in prison for possession of explosives and other terror offences. He was found in possession of 2.8kg of plastic explosive and had propaganda material for a Pro-Bretton Independence group. Anna Wright, a 37 year old who has been working as an interpreter for the Ui Cenneslaig Forces in the Protectorate was sentenced to 8 years after a search at the border found traces of explosive in her vehicle, she later was discovered to have connections to Sampson and the two appear to have been plotting an attack. Finally Cameron Parker, a 15 year old computer hacker, who had repeatedly accessed the hospitals CCTV cameras, was sentenced to 3 years in a young offenders institute. Human Rights campaigners have called Parker's sentence excessive as it is believed his hacking was not part of the attack that lead to the kidnap of High Queen Mary, in court he argued that it was "Just for fun" and "to see what I could hack". It is likely he will appeal the sentence. High Queen Mary was rescued several days ago and is said to be "under medical supervision" in East Moreland. |

 HIGH QUEEN REFUSES TO LEAVE EAST MORELAND In a surprise announcement High Queen Mary, who was recently released from terrorist custody after being kidnapped along with Prince Oliver, has refused to return to Mercia. In a statement released through her social media accounts the Queen sited High King Rupert's apparent affairs and treatment of Cultists as a reason.
High King Rupert has not yet responded to the statement.  BRETTON BORDER MILITARISED With the recent actions of Cultists connected to terrorism the High King has ordered the Army to establish checkpoints at entry and exit points with Bretton's borders. As part of an emergency decree the High King stated, "There is a clear and present threat from elements of Cultist community and as such we must take unfortunate action. From now until further notice anyone and any vehicle crossing the border is liable to military inspection." Within hours the military had begun the process and were searching vehicles belonging to Cultists while waving through those belonging to non-Cultists. An estimated 56,000 vehicles cross the border every day and large cues have already begun forming. |

   RUPERT SHOCK DEATH BRINGS ABOUT DUAL MONARCHY REFORM Earlier today it was announced that High King Rupert had died, the cause of his death has not been announced and Royal Protection Agents have announced they are not treating the death as suspicious but are treating it as "unusual", therefore are carrying out a full autopsy. Following the death of the King there was an attemped coup by around 20 military officers who sought to seize control of the government and instigate a new series of murders aimed at the nations Cultist minority. This however was stopped by loyalists, who with the support of Princess Alexandria of Calver, ensured the arrest of those involved. Several hours later it was announced that not wishing to stand for High Monarch Princess Alexandria's brother, King Arthur of Calver, had abdicated his position making Alexandria Queen. It was then confirmed that with the Commonwealth having just two monarchs, the newly appointed Queen Alexandria and Mary Wuffingas no election would take place. With Rupert's son with Mary Wuffingas, the now King Oliver being just a few months old he would not be eligable for any election. An announcement was then made from Fernwood Palace by Queen Alexandria stating.
An early leak of the new constitution would however appear to suggest that IQ tests will be part of qualifications to vote leading to some citizens to worry about no longer being part of the political process. It is also expected that the now Queen Mary shall return to Mercia in the next 24 hours following her ending her asylum in East Moreland. |

 QUEEN ALEXANDRIA LAUNCHES "LIQUID GENIUSOCRACY" PLAN Queen Alexandria today has announced that the draft constitution she is working on will feature a new type of democracy never tried before on Mundus. The system, which she is calling Liquid Geniusocracy, was explained to members of the press from her new home in Fernwood Palace.
The new constitution will be finalised when Queen Mary returns home to Mercia tomorrow and the two monarchs meet to discuss the measures. It is however understood that discussions have been taking place over the phone between the two and that a proposal is very close to being finalised. |

 QUEEN MARY LANDS BACK IN MERCIA Queen Mary has today returned to Mercia from her asylum stay in East Moreland. The 20 year old monarch was greeted by large crowds as she landed in Fernwood accompanied by her son by former High King, Rupert of Hassop. The Queen didn't speak to press but did publically thank the crowd for their welcome. She went directly to Fernwood Palace where she will now reside as one of the Dual Monarchs of a new Mercia. There were talks with her co-monarch Queen Alexandria after which she held a press conference in which she said.

 LIQUID GENUISOCRACY TESTING BEGINS Across the country testing centres have opened to prepare for the nations referendum on the new constitution. The referendum will be a trial run for what is expected to be the new democractic method adopted by the new government. Under this system only those with an IQ of over 120 will be entitled to actually cast votes, however people with an IQ lower than this benchmark may pass their vote onto someone who has passed the test. This will according to Queen Aliena Alexandria mean, "Those with an interest and understanding in the complexities of government will be able to make better decisions for the nation. This is a neccessity to ensure voter apathy or popularism don't take our nation down disastrous roads." The National Voter Registry today has tested 10,000 individuals at centres across Mercia, a total of 763 individuals have passed the test. It is expected over the next week over 1,800,000 tests will be taken. Queen Aliena Alexandria said, "The fact that not everybody has even registered to take the tests, which are free, shows the lack of involvement the majority of the nation have with day to day politics, voter turn out is always low and many vote the way their parents have always voted. We're going to overcome this and have an engaged and involved electorate in the coming years." This new system of Liquid Genuisocracy is an invention of Queen Aliena Alexandria and it is unsure how the rest of the world will react to it.  REFERENDUM ON FRIDAY It was announced today by Queen Alienias Alexandria that the voting in the upcoming referendum will take place this Friday. With 380,000 people so far able to cast votes on behalf of around 20million people registered to vote it will be an interesting test of the proposed Liquid Geniusocracy system. Many people eligible to be tested to qualify for casting votes have still yet to do so despite testing still be open until Wednesday evening. The Queen, inventor of the system, said. "This system was designed to remove voter apathy, it will ensure those with an interest and understanding of politics and the democratic process are the ones best positioned to be able to do so. By allowing them to be the proxy voter for those who are less interested we give the power, and therefore the future of our nation to those who are most willing to do so. Its something I am very excited about, imagine the campaigns we can run when it is clear the cult of populism will no longer be a factor. Politics will no longer be able to cater to the lowest common denominator and rely on a lack of interest or understanding to muggle through. I think this could genuinely bring about a new dawn for politics in Mercia, and then once the world see it in process why not the world. I'm excited for Friday and I hope we get the right result." However the system has brought about criticism with one Civil Liberties group saying, "There is no right of this monarch to take away our vote, to take away our voice giving it only to those who have been fortunate enough to have world class educations because of Mummy and Daddy's fortunes. If we are to see a new day for politics we need to remove these career politicians and replace them with ordinary hard working people." The ballots will be open at 7am and close at 10pm on Friday, it is expected that the result will follow by around 4am. |

 REFERENDUM AGREES NEW SYSTEM With 62% of those voting agreeing with the new constitution Mercia now has a new system of democracy, unique in Mundus, known as Liquid Geniusocracy. Under the new measures only around 5% of the population can cast votes, but may do so on behalf of the rest of the nation over the age of 18. The now selected system uses IQ tests to determine those capable of voting and was devised by Queen Alexandria who is now to be addressed as Queen Alienas Alexandria. Furthermore the new constitution establishes a new parliamentary system which will see the various regional councils of Hassop, Bretton and Calver dismantled in favour of a nation wide system of seats. The nation will in six weeks elect its first Parliament which will be able to veto legislation put forward by either of the monarchs. This Parliament will also elect from within its number a Prime Minister who shall be responsible for acting as the people's adviser to the monarchs. Additionally the monarchs may not increase budgets or taxes without Parliaments approval. The new constitution also places control of the Armed Forces under the command of Queen Alexandria while the internal security forces under the control of Queen Mary, who is now refered to as Queen Internus. Queen Mary is also now responsible for a wide range of affairs including Education, Health and Social Care. The new constitution also establishes that the position of Queen Alienas will move through the bloodline of Queen Alexandria while Queen Internus will move through the bloodline of Queen Mary, this will be done on priority given to eldest children, then closest blood relative. This systems also removes the titles of the monarchs of each of the three Kingdoms, meaning that officially the Commonwealth now ceases to exist. Queen Mary announced that in the coming days she will begin measures to try and bring Mercians abroad home through new domestic policies, meanwhile Queen Alexandria has announced that she will begin meetings with various foreign governments. |

 QUEEN ALIENAS ALEXANDRIA ANGRY AT IWI Following the seizure of alleged war criminal Luke Phillips from a cruise ship passing through the Matilda Canals Queen Alexandria, who is responsible for foreign affairs has called upon the Commonwealth of the Unified Iwi to release him. The arrest, which the Queen calls illegal took place when an undercover Iwi operative seized Phillips while he was enjoying a holiday. Soon after an unannounced deck landing by helicopter saw the former Hassop military man removed from the vessel, leaving his wife behind. Surprised holiday makers spoke of four armed men moving through the ship as the former soldier was pushed towards the helicopter which had landed on the cruise ships helipad. 24 hours later the Iwi announced that Phillips would be charged with crimes against humanity, something that another former Hassop military officer, Stephen Butler, was executed for around a week ago. This execution saw Butler clubbed to death on a beach by the King of The Iwi. Speaking at a weekly press meeting Queen Alienas Alexandria said, "We respect the fact that the people of the Iwi are angry that the former nation of Hassop committed what can only be called a Genocide in their nation. We have committed ourselves to help bring about justice to anyone that is found to be a member of the Hassop regime that murdered several million Maori over a length period, however this has to be done in an organised and civilised manner. Kidnapping people from cruise ships is not the way. We request immediately that Luke Phillips is released, returned to Mercia and then should the Iwi present evidence of crimes we would consider extradition." In recent weeks the Commonwealth of The Iwi have put in place several travel checks on Mercian's, particularly those who originate from the former region of Hassop. Additionally they have released a list of around ten key individuals they wish to place on trial regarding actions taken by Hassopite forces who occupied the Commonwealth of the Iwi for around two centuries until the early 1980's. |

 QUEEN INTERNUS MARY ANNOUNCES CONTROVERSIAL MILITARY DECREE Queen Internus Mary has today issued a decree which is likely to cause controversy. The Queen has ordered all military regiments with battle honours relating to actions in what is now The Commonwealth of the Unified Iwi to retire their colours and they will be issued with a new one which will have the battle honours removed. The decree will see 12 military units have their colours stood down, the decree even goes further saying that the retired colours may not be put on public display, causing outrage amongst serving and ex-soldiers. The Queen announced the decision saying, "A regiments colours are to signifiy their great deeds, what our nation did in The Iwi is not something we should be proud of, therefore we must not permit regiments to show honour to these events that took place in our past." One Regiment that will be effected is the 3rd Light Rifles who in 1815 fought in a campaign against the Maori and have the name Hunter's Bay on their colours. The Regiments Old Boy's Association President, General (Rt) Stephen Caulson has said, "This is a travesty, men from Mercia, in particular fought and died for that unit and for their country, not every unit nor every soldier carried out acts of genocide, to just blanket remove these units histories in sad and we will do all we can to prevent it." One serving member of the 3rd Light Rifles, who asked not to be named, stated, "We understand that some units did horrific things in the Iwi, but boys who fought under this banner did so because they honestly thought they were making the world a better place. Yes they may have been wrong in the long term but they fought bravely and with honour, that should be respected. We also learn from mistakes, having Hunters Bay there should be a reminder that we can not allow events such as this to happen again. I for one will not hand over our colours and many others agree with me." In recent days tension between The Iwi and Mercia have increased following the alleged kidnap of Luke Philips, a man accused of acts of genocide who was removed from a cruise ship in international water. Some have taken to social media claiming Queen Mary's decision may have been influenced at regaining some favour with The Iwi. So far Queen Alienas Alexandria has not spoken on this decree and many believe that she may be able to block it in some way. Queen Mary has authority to issue honours, which is generally thought to include Battle honours, however with Queen Alexandria being responsible for the deployment and organisation of the military some may argue she has the authority to make this decision. |

 NEW CABINET DRAWS ON BRIGHTEST Today the Dual Queens of Mercia announced their first cabinet and it includes none of the members of previous ones. The twelve person cabinet is also made up of members who IQ's of more than 125, putting them above the level permitted to vote, it also includes many gifted academics who are widely respected. Zeke Gladwin a former highly respected Civil Servant is given the job of Chief Councillor, the equivalent of a Prime Minister in many other nations. The 61 year old has held almost every major role within the civil service but has never held any elected or political role. It is thought his appointment is likely to indicate that many new reforms will be brought about in the coming days and that he will steer them through the legislative process. Foreign Minister goes to Andrew Harvey, the former head of Politics at Fernwood University. The new Minister formerly served as an overseas diplomat but became increasingly outspoken about the system of the Commonwealth, leaving him to retreat to academica where he taught Queen Alienas Alexandria for a year. The cabnet also has a surprising mix of ages with Chief Councillor Gladwin being the oldest and Minister of Justice Linda Colton being the youngest at 31. The Minister of Justice is likely to be one of the busiest in the coming months after Miss Colton has lead many pressure groups calling for trials and enquires to take place into the Genocide of Cultists. She also faces issues dealing with the situation regarding the trial of Lt.Col Philips in The Iwi. Queen Mary spoke of the cabinet saying, "Myself and my co-Queen discussed many of the appointments for a good few hours, we're delighted with our appointments and know that these are the right mixture of people to lead Mercia into a new successful era." It was expected that former King of Bretton, John Wulfingas would feature in the cabinet however the father of Queen Mary didn't feature and Arthur Madoc, Queen Alexandria's brother is the only former royal to feature in the panel.  QUEEN MARY ANNOUNCES DOMESTIC LAW CHANGES Following the first meeting of the new cabinet Queen Internus Mary has announced a series of domestic reforms across a wide range of policy areas. The most eye opening comes in the area of national identity. Speaking outside Fernwood University the Queen Internus spoke briefly with the media to outline some of the most major changes. "We have decieded today to make some rather radical changes to the nations set up. As things stand all documents we carry, passports, driving licences and the like have on them your identification as Hasspoite, Bretton or Calverite, this will end. These three regions now only exist as Dukedoms and are not nations within a Commonwealth. If we are to bring the nation together to heal the rifst of the last year. Furthermore no formal document will now ask what religion a person is, this was another factor that caused division within our nation." The move was welcomed by many who believe that the Commonwealth set up was always likely to fall apart, however some Hassop nationalists have shown anger at the decision with former Sheriff of Hassop, Billy Seward, saying, "This decision is horrific, Hassop was once a proud nation with connections across much of the Kyne region. We are now being wiped out, this is cultural genocide and should not be permitted. Yes we are Mercian but we are also proud Christian Hassopites and need to be permitted to celebrate that." Further reforms include that there will now be a nationwide educational curriculum, for the first time all students in Mercia will be required to learn the same topics in subjects such as History, Geography and Literature. It is also likely that the Bretton style of school inspections will be rolled out across the country. Security is also to be increased at the nations two nuclear power stations following the East Moreland terror attack where nuclear waste was almost captured by terrorists. Finally there is to a creation of a "Home Buyers Savings Account" to help young people be able to afford their own home, the scheme will work by allowing a young person under the age of 30 to pay money into an account that they may not touch for three years. At the end of the three years the government will match fund the accounts value up to $8,000, this would give the average house buyer a $16,000 deposit which would be enough for them to get a mortgage on a property up to the value of $160,000. The Queen spoke of the measure by saying, "As a young woman I looked forward to independence, and while I know I am fortunate that I have not had to scrimp and save I know others will be desperate to buy a place of their own. This measure will help significantly." |

QUEEN ALEXANDRA ISSUES SANCTIONS AGAINST THE IWI Following the conviction of Lt.Col(Rtd) Phillips for crimes committed against the Maori during Hassops occupation of what is now the Commonwealth of The Iwi, Queen Alienas Alexandra has imposed "Sporting, Cultural and Personal" sanctions against the Iwi. After first being abducted, while in International Waters while on a cruise, Phillips was put on trial for a series of crimes including sexual assault, murder and other war related crimes, he was found guilty and sentenced to a rather bizare death. The judge ordered that he be forced to ingest a series of three drugs designed to poision him, this is following a Maori tradition of a punishment being similar to the crime, however King Piripi stepped in and has ordered a firing squad be used instead. Phillips body is to then be buried at sea. The Queen announced the decision soon after saying, "While we believe Lt.Col Phillips was involved in some of the more horrific elements of your grand-parents occupation the treatment he has received is appalling. To be kidnapped and then put on trial is beyond horrific in this day and age. To then be sentenced to what would have been an horrific death shows a barbarity long not seen in Mundus. Phillips should have been handed back when we asked and proper protocol followed. While a firing squad may be a much more humane execution method I personally find the death penalty nothing more than state sanctioned murder. To then bury his body at sea and deny his wife a chance to have a proper burial for the man she loves is also punishing her. As such I have decided that with immediate effect Mercia shall not permit any cultural or sporting figure holding an Iwi passport to take part in events within our Dual Kingdom. Furthermore we shall freeze the assets of King Piripi and any relatives which are held within the Dual Kingdom. Any student here on a visa may be permitted to finish their degree but any Iwi student not here already will be denied entry. A further list of cultural sanctions shall be published shortly." The Queen then went on to urge other nations to also sanction The Iwi, "This is now the second brutal execution the Iwi have carried out on a Mercian. I would urge the world to join us in these sanctions and show that in the 21st Century we are not barbarians." |
