Tensions continue to rise among ethnic groups in Vaimeria

By: Valin Van Scheef, Chief Correspondent

Dutch-speaking soldiers patrolling uptown Opel, in northern Vaimeria.

Opel, Vaimeria - Following the implemenation of the Vaimerian Free Trade act in May, ethnic tensions between Germanic and Slavic citizens of Vaimeria are at an all time high. The failure of the Ethnic Peace Referendum last week has caused major rioting all over the cities of Opel and Ranzig, and the later mobilization of the army in response to these riots has reportedly met a mixed response; only Germanic members of the army have elected to arrive at the sites of the rioting; this has in turn raised questions of fairness. This marks the first major Vaimerian army operation since 1946.

The Prince also addressed the nation last night over the radio, a move that, according to Vaimerstag, is largely for security reasons. He urged citizens of all ethnic origin to 'stay strong' in times of strife, but kept his stance on the free trade act, assuring the Slavic-speaking citizens that this law would not allow arriving international corporations to damage Slavic religious sites or otherwise infringe upon their customs; this move has been met with extreme criticism from the Slavic community, who insist that the Prince's words have not undone centuries of ethnic oppression.

Despite martial law, and an upcoming peace march, this situation is starting to look more and more like Civil War.

Six killed at ethnic Peace March shooting

By: Valin Van Scheef, Chief Correspondent

Fire rising from the exploded vehicle, only one hundred meters from the march.

Altstadt, Vaimeria - Terror struck today's Ethnic Peace March while the event was outside of Altstadt in southern Valmeria. A car holding leading organizers of the peace march, including Hildebrand Jorensen, Olimar Bolton, and the Dutch-speaking Ikki Vanderbar was reportedly attacked by pro-Slavic rioters armed with firearms and Molotov cocktails, leading to a fire that resulted in the death of the six occupants and minor injuries to one bystander. The Valmerian Army was quick to respond to the scene and set up a perimeter, although the perpetrators escaped.

The car had stopped for directions after taking a wrong turn and ending up at a barn complex only 100 meters off of the main road; speculative reports have been released indicating the possibility that they had stumbled upon a group of terrorists planning a larger attack on the march, which was ongoing as the event happened. The Valmerian Army's blaming of Slavic speakers for the attack despite their own inability to locate or apprehend the terrorists has raised questions about the true loyalties of the military. A military spokesperson has denied all media claims of 'taking sides' in the ethnic struggle, stating they are simply trying to diffuse the situation peacefully.

Some have even gone as far as to blame the attack on international terrorists, explaining their belief that only an international corporation would have anything to gain from attacking a pan-Ethnic peace march. Regardless, with the riot death toll increasing every day, the ethnic tension is beginning to look more and more like a national crisis of stability.

Prince Jenor addresses the nation over Civil War concerns

By: Valin Van Scheef, Chief Correspondent

Posted Image
Prince Johannes Vaimer-Jenor, now twenty-seven, has ruled alone since the age of five.

Opel, Vaimeria - Prince Jenor addressed the nation's concerns over the ethnic conflict earlier today, reportedly briefly mourning the victims of the attack at the peace march earlier this week before beginning to talk about the ethnic struggle directly. In the speech, the Prince stated that the VFTA had created 18,000 new jobs in the Slavic regions, urging the Slavic populace to be patient and criticizing their leadership for omitting some or all of the facts regarding the legislation.

The Prince then went on to announce that a division-sized force would be entering the Slavic state of Zelenogarsk to ensure that the rumors of slave labor caused by international corporations are unfounded. The young Prince's speech was criticized as a 'poor excuse and justification' of sending more soldiers into Slavic lands by various Slavic nationalists, including the leader of the Pan-Slavic Coalition, the largest anti-government group, Fedor Novotný. The Prince was also criticized for imposing Germanic customs on the other ethnicities by using the German name for Zelenogarsk, Grunberg, in his speech.

Whether the military unit is met with hostile resistance remains to be seen, but the political situation has been described by international observers as 'increasingly volatile'.

The daily news premier was suddenly cut out by static, followed by a loud ringing and this picture:

"The many people of Vaimeria, you have been lied to, and deceived, by your corrupt, evil monarchy that rules off the superiority complex that a Prince, is smarter and more willing that you, the people. You see, just like what happened with King David, once you peel away the illusion in front of your face, that these Monarchs are somehow privileged, you see that they are detrimental to the well being of a country. The entire administration that subjects you, gives you the illusion of freedom and fairness, works under your nose to limit your very freedoms, as human beings. English Majority join rebellious factions; Vaimerian Civil War looking more likely

By: Valin Van Scheef, Chief Correspondent

Black Legion Rioters supporting riot police outside the palace in Opel following the leak.

Opel, Vaimeria - Following a since-confirmed leak by anti-monarchist group fSociety disclosing Prince Jenor's ties with the Facistic Black Legion as well as oil corporations and drug dealers, the political landscape of Vaimeria has fragmented and a huge amount of rioting has begun in the capital of Opel as a large amount of the Prince's support has created their own factions. In addition to Slavic separatists and the Fascistic Black Legion, a English United Front has also been formed, intending to unite the differing ethnicity under the outside English Culture and Language.

The leader of the EUF, Jinora Vanderbar, released a statement to the world, and to their various would-be supporters.

Jinora Vanderbar

I call upon members of all ethnicities who wish to rid themselves of this divide and keep a united Vaimeria to join us in our struggle of holding this nation together, despite all of the naysayers. I call upon the Slavic separatists and the various Germanic-speaking groups to join us in our struggle to rid this nation of the Vaimer-Jenor family, and of the Black Legion which he has supported.

Leader of the Black Legion, MP Heinrich Hanomag, called Vanderbar's statements 'warmongering' and stated that a continuing peaceful solution was possible. Alongside the prince, he also denounced the leak as 'utter bollocks', and continued encouraging a military intervention in the Slavic sector. The stage looks set for civil war, and fSociety seems to be to blame.

Prince and Black Legion flee Vaimeria; English United Front gains majority, Republic in sight

By: Valin Van Scheef, Chief Correspondent

The announced new flag of the Republic of Vaimeria.

Opel, Vaimeria - In a shocking turn of events, Prince Vaimer-Jenor and members of the Fascistic Black Legion all left the nation early yesterday morning, taking with them a substantial amount of military personnel and equipment. The sudden departure subsequently allowed the EUF to gain a majority in the government, and subsequently begin removing all traces of the monarchy. EUF Minister Jinora Vanderbar reportedly denied an offer to ascend to the Vaimerian throne as a distant relation.

For the first time in six hundred years, Vaimeria is no longer a Principality, but rather a Republic. The EUF had previously announced their intention to convert the whole nation into a Republic following the fSociety leaks. Internal elections have reportedly already been held, with a final decision being made to dissolve the Parliament in favor of a bicameral system, with an elected Consul taking over as Head of State and Government from The Prince.

A new eagle will fly over Vaimeria today, one stripped of all heraldlry. Whether the EUP's majority holds the Slavic seccessionists in place remains to be seen, but from the looks of it, Vaimeria has arrived in a new era of stability. The Free Trade Act passed by the Prince has been heavily revised to keep international corporations in check, with Castameran Oil company CastaOil even being banned from Vaimeria after its CEO Tugan Gantulga was implicated in the anti-Slavic plot during the leak. Slavic factions have reportedly not responded well to the Republic's creation, with many still calling for war.

Newly-elected Consul Robert Hellinvar has announced that Vaimeria is finally ready to enter into fully enter into international affairs, and urged the nation to prepare themselves for a 'full integration' into the world at large.

Slavic minorities organize militias amid the Republic's creation

By: Valin Van Scheef, Chief Correspondent

ZFS separatist soldiers outside the Zelenogarsk Police Station

Zelenogarsk, Vaimeria - The various Slavic minorities of Russia have begun a massive rearmament under several factions after the division-sized force sent by Prince Vaimer-Jenor to Zelenogarsk used rubber bullets and tear gas to forcefully seize the city from it's local government, leaving seven killed and 46 injured. Despite the Republic's creation and denouncement of the Royal Vaimerian Army's actions, some form of conflict seems more and more likely.

Sasha Borov, leader of the newly-declared Zelenorussian Free State, has announced the Russian minority's intention to forcefully secede from the Vaimerian nation, stating that "Prince Vaimer-Jenor's actions were simply the last straw. This conflict has been inevitable for more than a hundred years, and no Republic can stop it." The South Slavic and Khel sectors followed suit in their own declarations of independence. The Zelenorussian Free State Militia has already begun harassing English-speaking towns just across the newly-declared border.

International corporations working in the Slavic sectors as previously allowed in the Free Trade act have also reportedly been attacked at their work sites and office buildings by various militias, leaving over seventy wounded and an undisclosed amount dead.

Republic spokespersons said they would allow a secession referendum as long as the fighting stopped, but refused to recognize any of the nations until that point, and warned that if a diplomatic solution could not be negotiated, there would be dire consequences for any performing "terroristic acts on the civilian population, especially in a non-declared sector". The statement was denounced by the various separatist states, with Borov stating that "The time for diplomacy is finally over."

Despite the skirmishes, the Republic government has given the factions a two-week grace period to stop their fighting and hold referendums before moving in to forcefully retake those areas. Can peace be preserved?

Vaimerian military finally concedes, begins counter-insurgency operations in Vaimeria

By: Valin Van Scheef, Chief Correspondent

A Republiksnationalmilitar Squad near Juno, Vaimeria, one of the Vaimerian towns affected by the skirmishes.

Hatzig, Vaimeria - After ZFS soldiers destroyed or closed almost every major bridge over the Pontar river linking the Slavic sector to the remainder of Vaimeria, the Republiksnationalmilitar has finally declared that it will intervene in the affected regions to remove the 'rampantly aggressive' Zelenorussian Free State leadership, and to properly ensure that democracy takes place in the various referendums.

The RNM received scrutiny for being so late to act on the almost seventy deaths that have risen from the skirmishes, and for planning to enter all of the separatists states, not just the largest and most aggressive area, the 'Zelenorussian Free State'. Consul Hellinvar, in an address to the nation, said that the two-week deadline the Vaimerian Republic had previously given to the separatist movements had been 'a huge blunder' and that it had endangered countless lives on both sides of the border. He then assured the populace that the situation was not a civil war, and with luck, 'it wouldn't be much more than a conflict, and if we're really lucky, not even an insurgency'. Hellinvar's brutal honesty has garnered mixed reactions from the Vaimerian Press.

The Republiksnationalmilitar is expected to commence operations this morning, and are expecting moderate resistance after the South Slavic Federation and Zelenorussian Free State raided deserted army bases and boneyards in the area, salvaging hundreds of weapons and other 60s-era equipment.

Vaimeria accepts Malsonian military support

Malsonian Soldiers in Vaimeria.

Juno, Vaimeria - An announcement from Vaimerian Command confirmed the rumors that the Vaimerian government had accepted Malsonian leader Vladimir Putin's offer of military support against the sepratist movements, specifically the Russian-speaking ZFS. Although largely met with approval within Vaimeria, the leader of the ZFS, Sasha Borov, denounced Malson as having betrayed their Slavic roots by siding with the Vaimerians.

Malsonian troops are expected to arrive in Vaimeria and join counter-insurgency operations throughout the following week.

Vaimerian government to 'refocus' infrastructure initiative

By: Valin Van Scheef, Chief Correspondent

Opel, Vaimeria - In spite of other issues, the Vaimerian government announced today that it would be going forward with it's 'Connecting Infrastructure Initiative', which would create 10,000 jobs and greatly improve various forms of infrastructure across both rural and urban areas.

The CII plan, which was originally created by the Principality in 1988, has suffered decades of revisions, drawbacks, and other issues, but Consul Hellinvar and the Minister of Infrastructure Ioni Felinor believe that the time has finally come. Felinor was noted as saying that the time of the Republic would mark many more changes and improvements to the Vaimerian nation, a sentiment which Hellinvar fully backed.

Robert Hellinvar ratifies the DAFDE Act

By: Æthelred Kinrail, Domestic Correspondent

Posted Image
Robert Hellinvar has been a vocal proponent of heightened national security since the late 1990s.

Opel, Vaimeria - Consul Robert Hellinvar ratified the Domestic and Foreign Defense Expansion Act, or DAFDE Act, today. The act, which claims to enforce the power of the Vaimerian government to counteract any future sepratist movement, also greatly increases the budgets of military and police forces in Vaimeria, controversially halving the national healthcare budget as initially set during the creation of the Republic.

Protestors to the act have called it 'harsh' and in some cases, even 'illegal'. Hellinvar has even been accused of going against his party's democratic socialist platform. Neither Hellinvar nor the government have released a statement, however Varlon Longshore, Defense Minister, has gone on record as saying that the act is 'perfectly' constitutional, and that the protesters should have been present at the election, which had a record low 12% turnout.

Despite naysayers, the public support for the act is reportedly high throughout the nation, which some, including former Chief of Staff Þor Ivaring, have attributed to the insurgency in the east and subsequent foreign involvement.

Vaimeria to apply to the Commonwealth Treaty Organization

By: Æthelred Kinrail, Domestic Correspondent

Consul Hellinvar reportedly backed the idea of Vaimerian integration into international politics since he assumed office.

Opel, Vaimeria - Following decades of ongoing debate across different governmental bodies, Consul Hellinvar announced today that the developing rumors were indeed true; Vaimeria is due to finally begin an integration into international politics, starting with seeking full membership in the Commonwealth Treaty Organization.

The announcement came immediately after the Castle's statement that the military had fully defeated the insurgency with Lakhzovian support in taking out their leader, Alexander 'Sasha' Borov, who was confirmed dead two days ago after a ballistic missile strike. The remainder of the insurgency has reportedly either surrendered or attempted to leave the nation.

In his address, Hellinvar called on the nation to 'never forget' the 'dark chapter' of the insurgency and revolution, and to do everything in their powers to make Vaimeria and the world a 'safer and better place'. Some opponents of Hellinvar have criticized his speech for completely ignoring his earlier ratification of the DAFDE Act and the surrounding public concerns around it.

Vaimerian Officials Confirm: Government Decentralization Goes Forward

By: Æthelred Kinrail, Domestic Correspondent

Posted Image
CEO of energy company Inforge, Augustus Pryor, is one of many Vaimerian businessmen who have blurred the lines between the public and private sectors.

Opel, Vaimeria - Consul Hellinvar's resignation amid violent protests has opened the doors to the Vaimerian Parliament's potential passage of the Decentralization Act of 2016, which would greatly increase the power of businesses, and even allow them to run as officials in local and state elections. The surprising proposition was originally considered an obstructionist measure by the monarchist wing of Parliament, but a surprising resurgence in the bill's popular support, largely upheld by young corporatist 'streetsellers', allowed the bill to remain feasible well into the fourth quarter.

The recent election's results since confirmed that popular support is behind the corporatists, with Inforge winning three seats in Parliament, and fellow tech company Snake winning one.

Corporations' newfound ability to run as individuals in elections wasn't met with much protest, with even socially liberal areas like Opel generating large amounts of popular support for Hellinvar's resignation and the subsequent measures taken to propel the bill into law. Whether anything major changes in the Vaimerian poltiical - or business - climate remains to be seen. When asked about his plans for central Opel, Inforge CEO Augustus Pryor had this to say.

"I will revitalize this nation, starting with the Opel districts which I now control and propel it into the 21st century. I will end crime, and I will seek to ensure our continued safety in the international realm. So yes, in a way,Hellinvar was on the right track, regarding internationalism, but he hid behind a pointless socialist agenda. We require strong leaders, and I assure you, I am the first of many."

Pryor's words have been called 'alarming' by several former MPs, and by Hellinvar himself, who has now declared his plans to retire in central Vaimeria.

Vaimeria To Grant Corporations Collective Voting Rights?

By: Æthelred Kinrail, Domestic Correspondent

Posted Image
Inforge CTO Jæke Linksgerohtantvar heavily supported the proposal.

Opel, Vaimeria - A recent resolution brought before the Vaimerian Parliament granting corporations protection under the law as collectives may potentially go forward, Prime Minister Vanderbar warned. This law would allow corporations to vote in elections both as individuals and on behalf of all of their employees, essentially turning them in to large voting blocs. This comes after last year's rulings granting corporations the right to exist as individuals; and earlier rulings declaring currency to be free speech.

Critics have come forward, alleging that the new government has been moving too quickly back towards the pro-corporatist policies which earlier doomed Prince Vaimer-Jenor's regime; some minor police protests in Opel have been quelled by tear-gas.

Þéodhere Huskarls deployed to Opel, Kirava, Hagenhas

By: Æthelred Kinrail, Domestic Correspondent

Posted Image

Hagenhas, Vaimeria - A surprising development occurred tonight as over two divisions of Huskarls belonging to the 150th Dælhere arrived in several major Vaimerian cities, bolstering an already massive police presence, and setting up several checkpoints at major intersections. The largest majority of the forces seem to have concentrated around the entrances to major office buildings and skyscrapers belonging to the most well-known of Vaimerian corporations, including Inforge, Nightwell, and Heokers. Although their objective remains unclear, many have begun to speculate that they plan to block employees from attending their jobs when the work-week resumes on Monday.

The government has not made any specific comments addressing this renewed anti-business interest, nor the sudden imposition of martial law within these cities, although sources within reach of the Defence Council have noted, vaguely, that this operation was not an abnormal exercise of military power, but rather an event that was planned months in advance. VNC's Ainslie Aldensdotter, the first to capitalize on the information, suggested that the government "...had finally had enough with the corporate power creep in this nation. Whether the influence to make the order came from the traditionalists, or the liberals, it's hard to say."

The Liberal Party, which had controlled Vaimeria during its ethnic conflict and beyond, continues to have nothing to say. The Conservative Front, on the other hand, released a statement praising the actions of the military, and condemning "foreign-influenced corporations from depriving the nation of its very soul and culture we've held dear for generations." The party additionally hinted that their internal convention may soon elect a singular party leader through which the voting bloc can unify.

It's Official: Vaimerian Government to Seize Big Business

By: Æthelred Kinrail, Domestic Correspondent

Posted Image
Aldwyn Drake spoke today before a small crowd in Parliament, declaring his intentions regarding the seizure of corporate assets.

Opel, Vaimeria - Recently-elected Consul Drake confirmed in a televised speech this morning what many had already speculated: The Vaimerian Government has already begun to seize and nationalize most major Vaimerian corporations, and, in an extension of power that was a shock to most, appear to have already completely seized all major foreign interests as well. Drake went on to decry the Liberal Party's criticism of the action, calling them hypocrites for not supporting the necessary action against excessively large corporations. He followed up those statements with these:
Consul Aldwyn Drake

"The people of Vaimeria have voiced their concerns, and the government has finally answered. We are prepared to continue to take a more direct role in the management of foreign interests in Vaimeria, and in finding ways to maximize economic prosperity for all people, as long as they remain sensible to the sensitivities of our culture and national identity. We have taken the defense, service, energy, and manufacturing industries, and plan to incorporate them either directly into the governmental hierarchy, or as parastatals. I hope to use them for the benefit of all of our loyal citizens. No longer will our traditional identity have to live in fear of corporate and foreign dilution; instead, may it thrive for thousands of years. This long national nightmare, is over."

The lack of input from the Liberal Party, which controls almost 55% of the Parliamentary districts, also painted a grievious picture for the future of political fairness in Vaimeria, especially considering the Partisan, technically illegal behavior of the Þéodhere this Sunday. Various Conservative groups have praised Drake's action, and this weekend, the Conservative Front reported that their membership almost doubled overnight. Whether this new base consists of formerly pro-Monarchist entities, or whether it will end up being a new force in Vaimeria remains to be seen.

Regardless, this Vaimerian nationalization has been predicted to create international fallout for any who had a stake in Vaimerian corporate interest, which had expanded tremendously since the end of the war and deregulation. The sectors predicted to be particularly affected are defense and energy, specifically due to Vaimeria's large Uranium deposits.

Disaster in Hagenhas!

By: Æthelred Kinrail, Domestic Correspondent

Landfyrdung troops examining the remains of the factory last Friday, almost a week after the devastating explosion, which has forced the relocation of over 1500 people.

Opel, Vaimeria - Police have corroborated details about the loud 'noises' heard in Hagenhas two weeks ago, and confirmed their origin: foreign mercenaries have attacked Vaimeria, in an effort to prevent the Vaimerian government from nationalizing the contents of a Himeyan Tsukui factory. The search remains ongoing; the military reached the conclusion last week that the perpetrators in question must still be within Vaimerian borders, unless they escaped through especially clandestine means.

The revelation serves to explain the heightened security and media silence witnessed in Vaimeria throughout the past two weeks. Consul Drake, returning from Helvetica, stated today that the Vaimerian government would 'commit all resources into locating these terrorists'. He urged foreign powers or corporations to come forward and attempt to negotiate the nationalization of their own respective companies, noting that though the deals were going to sway heavily into the favor of the Vaimerian government either way, there still remained a possibility that the Vaimerian government could avoid acquiring especially restricted or rare technologies, should foreign haggling succeed.

In a recent VNG interview, Consul Drake brushed off the topic of the explosion; saying he would much rather retain his positive attitude and focus on issues such as education, culture, and 'international friendship'. He spoke notably of his recent trip to Helvetica, describing it as 'eye-opening' and bringing up the possibility of visits to other nations, something he said he would avoid as much as he could while still on the campaign trail.
