Smuggling Ring Busted in Coimbra, National Police on the Job!![]() The longstanding "War of Drugs" has seen another victory tally for the Galician Security Forces (GSF) following a massive drug bust in the Benfica District of Coimbra. In a daring nighttime raid spearheaded by the National Police Special Weapons Union (SWU), an elite force of police commandos, approximately 20.000 kilos of cocaine, heroin and assorted synthetic recreational ages (SRAs) have been confiscated with minimal effort. Seven perpetrators have reported been apprehended with zero casualties on either side, all scheduled to be interrogated and tried with accordance to law. "Galiza will never be a safe haven for the drug trade," spoke Chief Inspector Renato Laranja, head of the Coimbra Branch of the GNP. "Rest assured that the Galician Union has taken on a heavy responsibility for policing international trade lanes for illicit substances. We will always be watching and waiting for any sloppy criminal slip-up in the region." Though a small nation, the Galician Union has long been at the forefront of the International War on Drugs, utilizing a number of sophisticated machinery in addition to the full might of its military and police assets to ensure disruption of crime flowing near its waters. This latest blow against the international trade is the next footnote in a longstanding struggle and a reminder to the world of Galiza and its people's zero tolerance policy on contraband substances. - Rodrigo Nogueira Galiza Star |

Galician Furor Over Temcluse Operations!! Spoiler: click to toggle GSS Vasco da Gama en route to the Matilda Channels. Following the Tecluse government's declaration of its intention to board and search any international vessels passing through the Matilda Channels, the Galician federal government based in the capital city of Santiago has exploded in outrage at recent news of many Galego fishing trawlers being unduly detained during routine movements outside of Teclusian territory, resulting in a noticable dip in Galician profits due to hundreds of fishing boats being stopped, searched and delayed en route to Galician territory. "The fishing industry is a cornerstone of the Galician economy," states one representative of the Galician Economic Council, "though the due examination of a single fishing boat may not take a long time to do, literally hundreds of Galego trawlers and small craft pass through the Matilda channels on a daily basis and quite a few of these vessels are massive boats that carry hundreds of thousands of pesetas worth of produce back home with them." "The Teclusian government's sudden announcement of its intention to unduly stop, detain and search our fishing boats without first consulting or regarding our national interests is a slap to the face of the Galician Union and will not be tolerated. We encourage the Teclusian government to reevaluate their boundaries and immediately cease their unilateral operations in the area. The Ministry of Defense has announced its intentions to deploy five Vasco da Gama-class frigates to assert a Galician military observer presence in the region and to ensure the safety of Galego civilian vessels in the area. No further comment has been released. |

Additional Naval Deployments to Matilda!![]() Following the announcement of Temcluse's Operation Tidal Wave in the Matilda Channel, the Ministry of Defense has announced a further contingent of Galician Maritime Forces (GMF) assets in the region to join up with the five Vasco da Gama-class frigates already en route to the Channel. In an uncharacteristic display of military force, the GMF states that three of the nation's Belem-class destroyer escorts and the GSS Pontevedra, a Pontevedra-class helicopter carrier, will join the Vasco da Gama-class frigates to "ensure the safety" of Galician maritime shipping in the region. "We are a sea-faring people who have always abided with the writ of international maritime law. To be subjected to such unprecedented insult such as what the Temclusians are insisting in the region is not only an insulting gesture, but a baseless attempt at establishing one country's so-called dominance in an international water route. Galiza will not stand for such arrogance." The Galician Maritime Forces has also hinted at sending a submarine detachment to the region, should the offending searches continue to occur. G.S.S. Anjana Launched in A Coruna![]() GSS Anjana leaving drydock In a small ceremony open to the public, the Galician Maritime Forces celebrated the christening of the latest Manuela da Garça-class corvette to be put into service by shattering a bottle of champagn against the hull of the G.S.S. Anjana as she left Sao Sebastiao dry dock for active duty. Anjana is the latest addition to the GMF fleet and is part of the latest initiative by Jose Carballo's government to ensure the safety of the Galician Union's sovereign waters against conventional and asymmetric threats. The Galician Manuela da Garça-class corvettes are among the most advanced vessels fielded by the GMF and are built around a unique combination of radar absorbent material and cross-section reducing frame which is intended to ensure the small vessels remain hidden to most modern radar systems in employ. Though the smallest rated ships in service, the Manuela da Garça-class corvettes' flexibility in handling a wide variety of roles ranging from anti-submarine warfare to surface combat has made it a boon to the GMF. The small vessels have so far proved their worth in assisting the Galician Coastal Guard in its campaign against drug smuggling in the Gulf of Aaraxis and have been successfully employed in a number of anti-submarine war games within the GMF. It is expected that five additional corvettes of this class will be launched in the year to come. - Renato Laranja, Galiza Star Edited by Galiza, 25th October 2016 - 05:29 AM.

Mainland Public Transport Goes Green!!![]() A welcome change in public transport procedures within five of Galiza's major cities has finally come into fruition with the adaptation of natural gas powered vehicles for the Union's major transportation hubs. The cities of Santiago, A Coruna, Pontevedra and Vigo have completely replaced their diesel powered bus shuttles with new shuttles powered by compressed natural gas. "We've been happy to see that these 'green machines' on the street," reports Enrique Marinez, head of Santiago de Compostela's Public Transport System. "Since their adaptation two months ago, the Green Machines have been well received by the population and serve in the same capabilities as their diesel predecessors with the significant advantage of producing less carbon emissions than even the diesel-electric hybrid options." Though natural gas power vehicles (NGPVs) have been on the market for years, last year's government initiative to push for mainstream NGPV use has seen billions of pesetas dumped into replacing many bus systems, barges and taxis using diesel or petrol powered engines. Refueling stations in major cities and bus terminals have been refitted with amenities for compatibility with NGPVs, with major tax incentives being offered to car companies willing to adapt to the nation's energy agenda. "We hope that this successful measure encourages private industry to focus on providing prospective buyers with private vehicles running on natural gas in order to reduce our carbon footprint and enhance already stellar air quality standards Galiza enjoys relative to other industrialized nations." - Renato Laranja, Galiza Star |

Ander Teroto Embassy Opens on Embassy Row Amid Controversy! Spoiler: click to toggle Embassy of Ander Teroto, Santiago de Compostela Spoiler: click to toggle Roman Catholic Parishoners Protesting Outside of the Newly Opened Embassy of Ander Teroto in Santiago de Compostela Shortly after the construction and inaugeration of Santiago de Compostela's latest foreign embassy addition, small crowds of Galician citizens have taken to protest the alleged accounts of persecution and imprisonment of religious minorities in Ander Teroto. No less than three hundred individuals gathered outside of the foreign embassy's gates in peaceful demonstration while Galician police and military personnel barred their entry onto the premises. Cardinal Rogerio Bilbao has actively led demonstrations calling on the Galician Union to immediately break ties with the small southeast Mundus nation and to actively seek the release of all imprisoned individuals. "Whoever saves the life of one man, saves the world entire!" he was reported to have said in front of the Ander Terotoan gates. "If we Galegos claim to be the children of god and the promotors of democracy and human rights in the world, we will break ties with this nation immediately and focus our attention to stopping their murderous campaign against Helusites, Christians and all those who look to a high moral being in our universe." The Galician Government has not commended on the matter, despite reiterating that all foreign embassies are under the GU's protection and - regardless of politics - are treated as extensions of international nations' soil. Additional security staff have been seen in the area, though protests continue to be peaceful. Forty M1A1 "Bearcat" Main Battle Tanks Upgraded to "A2" status Spoiler: click to toggle A Galician "Bearcat" MBT upgraded to "A2" Status An additional 40 M1A1 "Bearcat" main battle tanks have been successfully upgraded to M1A2 status by the Galician branch of General Dynamics, bringing the total number of SE (System Enhanced) M1A2s to 106. New upgrades to the formidable Bearcat design have incorporated enhanced ballistic fire control systems, the digital battlefield network system used by the Stryker family of vehicles, a remote weapon system and advanced thermal imaging/night vision capabilities. Though additional details of the A2 Bearcat variant's enhanced armor have remained unclear, the GFSF has noted that active protection systems and additional depleted uranium armor have been added to the Bearcats' frames in order to give them even greater defense against anti-armor weapons and improvised explosive devices. These enhanced Bearcats are expected to be seen in action on the GFSF's quarterly war games maneuvers within the Galician mainland, not far from the Mercian border. - Renato Laranja, Galiza Star |

Seleçãõ Galego Triumphant! Galician National Team in Quarterfinals!!![]() Enrique Carvalho with the game-winning penalty kick In an electrifying game against Satanica, the Seleçãõ once again defied international speculation to claim the game (and the coveted spot in the World Cup Quarterfinals) with a dramatic penalty kick by none other than team captain Enrique Carvalho. Tied up at 2-2 after a nail-biting struggle that pushed into overtime play, Carvalho - 2-time Silver Shoe Winner in 'A Liga Galega' - closed the gap and sunk the game-winning shot into the top left corner of the Satanican net, shattering Satanican confidence in the arena and boosting goalkeeper Martin Sanches's spirits up to block the final opposing punt. "I felt very confident coming up to the pitch," spoke Carvalho after several moments of preening in front of his hand mirror, "and knew that I could deliver the game into the hands of the Galician people." All eyes are on the Seleçãõ as they continue their push for the cup. The quarterfinal match against Tytor is expected to be broadcasted at 20:00 Galician time. - Renato Laranja, Galiza Star |
