Sofie to visit countryside

In an unsurprising yet hope filled announcement by the Crown, Queen Sofie will be making a routine visit towards the countryside to discuss issues facing the individual farmers as well as those faced by the provinces as a whole. The size of the nation, while liberating for such a small population, provides a challenge for the government to properly respond to the problems of citizens. While the majority of issues can be solved with pure determination, there are issues that are out of the local populaces control such as insurrection by the Wollie or a farm risking going under due to a poor growing season or blight. To combat this its been a long standing tradition for the crowned monarch to visit the countryside and represent the peoples troubles and present their individual cases to the government.

Jakobson Disease strikes at the heart of Oriensula
Posted Image

What came as a shock to a family one afternoon during a bi-weekly visit was the discovery of 3 dead bodies at a local homestead bordering the Thaba reservations. The family, Luggers, was visiting their extended family on the Wife's side. Their parents had long since owned and operated the homestead for years, relying on its unique production of cabbage and various other green plants and vegetables for their income. It was during this trip that an answer at the door seemingly never came, until the Husband busted down the door in fear of their extended families health. Their worst fears were realized with the Mother faced down in the living room after having been bludgeoned in the back of the head by the now long dead Father, his eyes bloodshot and his body just beginning to accumulate flies. Notifying local authorities the Oriensula Government quickly intervened at the description of the case, moving special containment units to section off the area and allow for complete examination of the bodies. During this time it was discovered that the Luggers' extended family had left the country for an extended stay in Arstotzka. What had began as their 45th honeymoon quickly devolved into a panicked retreat back to the country after the outbreak of the Jakobson Disease in Protoa as well as cases within Arstotzka. During that time the Father had contracted the disease and after their return home had grown increasingly violent and agitated before finally striking down the Mother. The Oriensula government has now offered a travel restriction to Arstotzka and countries in the surrounding region, fearing an infection reaching a major population center. Between then and now the local homestead shall be thoroughly decontaminated and the bodies of the two victims laid to rest.

The fear of the outbreak spreading to the Thaba villages was quickly realized, however thanks to the isolated homestead and the timeliness actions by the government no animals had a chance to spread the disease to a nearby urban location; much to the relief of the Thaba reservations. To help quell public unrest the Oriensulan government deployed 140 servicemen to surrounding Thaba villages to monitor disease symptoms as well as to provide extra security where the local Thaba government cannot at the current time.

1 dead and 2 wounded in Noord Veld
Posted Image

45 troops, in transit from Oos-stad to a military base in Noord Veld, came under attack earlier this week after the lead vehicle ran into an IED set alongside the road. The IED itself proved fatal for the driver of the vehicle who, while being saved from the wreckage of the destroyed truck, bled out following the late arrival of medical units to the area. Due to the tense and otherwise volatile nature of the northern most frontiers of Oriensula, travel by helicopter especially in the case of medevac is cautioned due to the possibility that a terrorist group could not only shoot down an important military asset, but also salvage it for their own use, furthering their own cause while hindering that of the Oriensulan Government. Soldiers on site reported that the bleeding was "Quite slow" when they initially provided first aid, they specifically cautioned against calling in a medevac in fear that local insurgents were still in the area and instead insisted on land based aid, a decision that would soon prove to be fatal.

While no actions are to be taken against the soldiers for their choice, the family of the soldier that lost its life has request the government direct more funds towards demining roads ahead of military convoys as well as furthering intel on insurgent operations.

"While the pleas of the family are heard loud and clear to all of us within the government as well as those within the Armed Forces, it is important to remember that money itself is not an easy solution for those who deem their cause just enough to wish death upon others. Proper intelligence on those who would wish to do our armed forces as well as our people harm would require the full cooperation of the Wollie Government, which has worked tirelessly to shift the blame of the attacks from those within their own settlements to those who have long since left and now reside throughout Noord Veld." A representative of Noord Veld told us following our inquiry.

Sofie to attend funeral for fallen soldier, promises further talks with local officials in Noord Veld
Posted Image

Following the casualty earlier this week, Queen Sofie has promised to attend the funeral of the fallen soldier in hopes of connecting with the family as well as his fellow servicemen. This comes shortly after her announcement to begin a trip to Noord Veld to visit local officials to talk about the state of Noord Veld and what must be brought to the governments attention as a priority.

"Such an attack hasn't been carried out on our armed forces since the Bush War, a war few are willing to remember or acknowledge. We must not allow such an attack to become a norm, nor should we let the troubles of Noord Veld become silenced by the attacks of local terrorists. Only by bringing the plights of the province to light will we be able to properly mount a defense against those who wish to strike at the very heart of Oriensula."

Jakobsons outbreak reported in outlying regions of Wollie Territory
Posted Image

Following the attack on a military convoy, a government investigation has determined that the insurgents original base of operations had long since been abandoned, implying the initial ambush was nothing more than an attempt at snagging supplied directly from the military. The reasons for abandonment were previously unknown until a recent development from an injured insurgent that participated in the the ambush brought the reasons to light. The man confessed that the reasons they abandoned their original base of operations was due to a minor outbreak of Jakobsons caught during a trip to the Thaba Reservations following the scare of it spreading to the entire Noord Veld. By the time they had realized the signs of Jakobsons over 30 men were already infected and experiencing different symptoms of the virus. After various executions and burials, the insurgents abandoned the camp, and its supplies, out of fear of the rest of the group catching Jakobsons. Following his detailed information, Oriensulan Armed Forces were able to locate the graves of those buried and medical examinations confirmed the presence of Jakobsons on the deceased. Due to the potential of it spreading throughout the rest of the Wollie region, more units have been dispatched from across Oriensula to patrol the border between their reservations. The original security forces tasked with monitoring a potential outbreak in Thaba lands has been redeployed to double their efforts to ensure no more potentially infected make it into any population centers.

Travel Advisory for Phuebra

Following various incidents within the nation of Phuebra, a travel advisory for the country of Phuebra will be put into effect for all citizens of Oriensula. Citizen safety is paramount for the Government, with Phuebra being unable to guarantee the safety of our citizens should they visit the country it would be within the best interest of Oriensula that we notify our citizens of the risks that would be taken traveling to the country at this time. While diplomatic relations with Phuebra are netural at best, the recent activities within their borders have caused concern among travel companies within Oriensula as well as the Government in deciding how to handle the situation. Trade, and other services will continue as normal but remain fluid should a sudden change take place within the country.
